Abstract

A chemical method is provided for the precise determination of the endpoint of decalcification in mineralized biological tissues such as bone and teeth. The method utilizes a stable aqueous alkaline solution, specifically sodium carbonate, which is reacted with a sample of spent acid decalcifying fluid. Upon neutralization of the acid, the presence of residual calcium ions is indicated by the formation of a turbid precipitate, whereas a clear solution signifies the complete removal of calcium. This innovation provides a rapid, two-minute assessment that eliminates the need for hazardous ammonia reagents, thereby improving laboratory safety and operational efficiency
