AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Amorphous alloys suffer from rapid strength deterioration and low fracture toughness due to shear band formation during plastic deformation, limiting their commercialization as structural materials.

Method used

A method involving determining structural stabilization and crystallization initiation times, followed by heat-treating at a specific healing temperature and rapid cooling, to restore the amorphous alloy's structure and properties.

Benefits of technology

The method effectively restores the amorphous alloy's strength, ductility, and toughness, enabling continuous deformation and extending its lifespan by standardizing the structure within a specific heat-treated temperature range.

Abstract

The present invention relates to a method for healing amorphous alloys and an alloy suitable therefor. By measuring isothermal transformation curves regarding structural stabilization and crystallization initiation, followed by rapid cooling after structural stabilization heat treatment at a specific healing temperature, the invention standardizes structural changes according to process variables of the amorphous alloy and heals structural damage caused by elastic and plastic deformation of the amorphous alloy, thereby enabling the repeated recovery of deformation stability characteristics such as ductility and toughness as well as strength recovery. The invention also relates to a healing method and an alloy suitable therefor.
