Hat and cap modification system and method of use

Abstract

A hat and / or cap modification system for modifying existing headwear to be wearable by wearers having curly hair, voluminous hair or otherwise challenging hair for wearing hats and caps in their standard orientation. The system includes a pair of upper tabs and a pair of lower tabs for interfacing with the wearer's head or hair. The system further includes a pair of upper clips for securing the device about the top button of the cap, and a pair of lower clips for connecting to the lower edge of the cap's crown.

Description

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION1. Field of the Invention

[0001] The present invention relates generally to a hat system and method for use thereof, and more specifically to a hat modification system for modifying existing hats and caps to be worn with wearers who have large, curly, or other hair styles making wearing hats and caps difficult without modifications thereto.2. Description of the Related Art

[0002] Hats and caps are important for celebratory events, such as high school and college graduations and sporting events, can be a way for a person to personalize their outward appearance and messages they may want to send, as well as acting as functional headwear for blocking sun. Wearers who have curly hair, voluminous hair or otherwise challenging hair for wearing hats and caps in their standard orientation have to resort to stuffing the hat on their heads, modifying the caps using pins, tape, or other inconvenient methods, or foregoing the hat or cap altogether, which can be uncomfortable and can even lead to feeling left out.

[0004] The present invention generally provides a hat and / or cap modification system for modifying existing headwear to be wearable by wearers having curly hair, voluminous hair or otherwise challenging hair for wearing hats and caps in their standard orientation.

[0005] The cap modification system is preferably designed to interface with a baseball cap, but could also be used with other types of caps and hats.

[0006] The cap modification system includes bumps or nodules on various surfaces for gripping the hat and the wearer's head and / or hair.

[0007] The preferred embodiment of the present invention has a pair of upper clips for securing about the top button of a baseball cap. An embodiment of the invention could use a single clip or more than two clips.

[0008] A pair of lower clips similarly are designed to clip onto the lower portion of the crown of the cap. When the cap is folded in upon itself, the lower clips are inserted in between portions of the bottom edge of the crown. Ridges or other frictional elements located within these clips help to further engage with the bottom edge of the crown of the cap.

[0009] The preferred embodiment of the present invention includes a pair of upper taps and a pair of lower tabs. These tabs are configured to interface with the wearer's head or hair, acting as a hair band. [0025] As shown in FIGS. 1-9 , the present invention features a hat or cap 40 modification system 2. The modification system has a front side 4 for interfacing with the cap 40, and a rear side 6 for interfacing with the wearer's hair and / or head.

[0026] The modification system 2 includes a pair of lower ends 8, a front tab 12, a band body 20, a pair of lower tabs 22, and a pair of upper tabs 26 extending away from the band body 20. The lower ends 8 include lower clips 16 which are designed to interface with the bottom edge 48 of the crown of a baseball cap 40. FIGS. 9-12 show this in more detail, where the modification system 2 is shown interfacing with a back side 44 of the cap, where the cap has been modified by pushing the rear-most portion of the cap inward toward the front 42 of the cap 40.

[0027] A pair of upper clips 10 similarly interface with the cap about the top button 42. These upper 10 and lower 16 clips secure the modification system 2 to the cap. The lower clips 16 are shown to include ridges 18 on the interior surfaces to the clip 16 to provide additional friction against the cap 40 to hold the lower clips 16 in place. The upper clips 10 could include similar functionality. The upper clips 10 are shown to have a pair of voids 14 beneath them.

[0028] The modification system 2, including the upper 26 tabs and the primary body band 20, include a number of exterior nodules 28 and interior nodules 30. The exterior nodules 28 provide additional friction against cap 40 when the modification device 2 is attached to the cap as shown in FIG. 12. The interior nodules 30 similarly provide friction against the wearer's head and / or hair when the modification device is fitted onto the user, functioning as a hair band. The front tab 12 is placed beneath the top button 46 of the cap, while the upper clips 10 secure the cap down against the front tab 12.

[0029] Similarly, the interior of the lower ends 8 and the interior of the ends of the lower tabs 22 include interior nodules 24, similar to the interior nodules 30 and exterior nodules 28 of the primary band body 20 and the upper tabs 26.

[0030] The present invention could fit most or all types of hats and caps once the caps are modified to receive the modification system 2.

Claims

1. A headwear modification system comprising:a primary body, at least one upper clip, at least one lower clip, at least one upper tab, and at least one lower tab;said primary body configured to be placed against a rear face of an exterior surface of the headwear, and the headwear configured to be at least partially folded to receive said primary body;said at least one upper clip configured to be secured about a top surface of the headwear such that a portion of said headwear is held within said at least one upper clip, thereby securing the headwear to the modification system;said at least one lower clip configured to be secured about a lower edge of the headwear such that a portion of said lower edge of the headwear is held within said at least one lower clip, thereby further securing the headwear to the modification system, andsaid at least one upper tab and said at least one lower tab configured to secure said modification system to a wearer's head or hair.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein said headwear is a baseball cap.

3. The system of claim 2, further comprising:said baseball cap comprising a top button; andsaid at least one upper clip configured to be placed adjacent to said top button.

The modification system of claim 1, further comprising:a plurality of interior nodules located on an interior face of said modification system primary body, said at least one upper tab, and said at least one lower tab; andsaid plurality of interior nodules configured to provide grip against the wearer's head or hair.

The modification system of claim 1, further comprising:a plurality of exterior nodules located on an exterior face of said modification system primary body, said at least one upper tab, and said at least one lower tab; andsaid plurality of exterior nodules configured to provide grip against the headwear.

6. The modification system of claim 1, wherein said primary body forms a band configured to fit about a user's head.
