Canna plant named ‘SAACAN01’

Abstract

A new and distinct cultivar of Canna plant named ‘SaaCan01’ is disclosed, characterized by colorful striped foliage and a red flower. The new cultivar is a Canna, typically produced as an outdoor ornamental plant.

[0003] The new cultivar is a product of chance discovery. The new cultivar was discovered by the inventor as a whole plant mutation of the cultivar Canna hybrida ‘Phasion’ U.S. Plant Pat. No. 10,569. The discovery was made in the Summer of 2019. ‘SAACAN01’ was discovered by the inventor at a commercial greenhouse in Kibutz Saad, Israel.

[0004] Asexual reproduction of the new cultivar ‘SAACAN01’ was first performed at the same commercial nursery by vegetative divisions in Fall of 2019. ‘SAACAN01’ has since produced at multiple generations and has shown that the unique features of this cultivar are stable and reproduced true to type.SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0005] The cultivar ‘SAACAN01’ has not been observed under all possible environmental conditions. The phenotype may vary somewhat with variations in environment such as temperature, day length, and light intensity, without, however, any variance in genotype.

[0006] The following traits have been repeatedly observed and are determined to be the unique characteristics of ‘SAACAN01’. These characteristics in combination distinguish ‘SAACAN01’ as a new and distinct Canna cultivar:

The following observations and measurements describe ‘SAACAN01’ plants grown outdoors in Israel. Temperatures ranged from about 7° C. to 20° C. at night to 12° C. to 30° C. during the day. No artificial light, photoperiodic treatments or chemical treatments were given to the plants. Measurements and numerical values represent averages of typical plant types.
