[0048] Multi-Device Experience (MDE) refers to a user environment that integrates the Internet of Things (IoT) and / or artificial intelligence (AI) across multiple devices to provide differentiated experiences. For example, various types of devices, such as TVs, home appliances, mobile devices, and wearables, can be connected to provide a variety of services.

[0049] According to an example, a plurality of devices for providing an MDE environment, for example, the first electronic device (100) and the second electronic device (200), can be implemented as various devices. For example, the first electronic device (100) and the second electronic device (200) can be implemented as electronic devices having a display function, such as a TV, a smart monitor, a projector, a smart phone, a tablet PC, a desktop PC, a laptop PC, a PC, a portable multimedia player (PMP), a large format display (LFD), a digital signage, a digital information display (DID), a video wall, a navigation system, an AI speaker, etc. In addition, the first electronic device (100) and the second electronic device (200) can be implemented as home appliances having a display function, such as a refrigerator, an air conditioner, an air purifier, an oven, a washing machine, etc. In addition, the first electronic device (100) and the second electronic device (200) can be implemented as wearable devices having a display function, such as a smart watch.

[0050] The first electronic device (100) and the second electronic device (200) can communicate through various communication methods, including wired communication as well as wireless communication such as Bluetooth communication, Wi-Fi communication, infrared communication, and mobile communication.

[0051] As an example, let us assume that the first electronic device (100) is implemented as a TV and the second electronic device (200) is implemented as a smart phone, as shown in FIGS. 1a and 1b.

[0052] According to the example illustrated in FIG. 1A, the first electronic device (100) and the second electronic device (200) can be implemented in a form that can perform direct communication without going through a separate server and control the second electronic device (200) through the first electronic device (200). According to one example, the first electronic device (100) and the second electronic device (200) can perform communication through a short-range communication method such as Bluetooth communication or Wi-Fi direct communication.

[0053] According to the example illustrated in FIG. 1B, the first electronic device (100) and the second electronic device (200) may be pre-registered through the server (300). For example, at least one of the first electronic device (100) and the second electronic device (200) may install an IoT (Internet of Things) application for registering and managing multiple electronic devices to the server (300). The application is software that is directly used by the user on the OS, and may be provided in the form of an icon interface on the screen of at least one of the first electronic device (100) and the second electronic device (200). According to an example, the first electronic device (100) and the second electronic device (200) may be IoT (Internet of Things) devices that support a WiFi module for communicating with the server (300). For example, a user can execute an IoT application on at least one of a first electronic device (100) or a second electronic device (200), enter a user account, and log in to the server (300) through the entered user account. At least one of the first electronic device (100) or the second electronic device (200) can communicate with the server (300) based on the logged-in user account. The server (300) can manage the first electronic device (100) and the second electronic device (200) registered to the user account as an MDE (Multi Device Experience) service providing device. Here, the server (300) can be implemented as a cloud server, but is not limited thereto.

[0054] For example, content provided on a first electronic device (100) may be continued on a second electronic device (200) or viewed through content sharing, such as screen mirroring. In this case, the external server (300) may transmit the picture quality information of the main device or the picture quality information of the device on which the content was most recently played to the electronic device (100) when a preset event occurs in the electronic device (100) or at the request of the electronic device (100).

[0089] According to one embodiment, the processor (130) can store and manage content playback timing and updated image quality information of multiple pre-registered devices, including the electronic device (100). For example, if the electronic device (100) is implemented as a device that manages an MDE service, it can directly receive and manage content playback timing and updated image quality information from multiple devices.

[0090] Meanwhile, in the above-described embodiment, it has been described that image quality information is acquired when content is played in the electronic device (100), but this is for convenience of explanation and is not limited thereto.

[0091] For example, the electronic device (100) may acquire image quality information and store it in the memory (120), and then change the image quality settings based on the image quality information when playing content. Alternatively, if the image quality information of a preset device is updated, the image quality information may be shared with multiple devices including the electronic device (100). Alternatively, the image quality information of the device on which content was most recently played may be shared with multiple devices including the electronic device (100) at the time of playing the content on that device.

[0092] FIG. 4 is a flowchart illustrating a method for setting image quality of an electronic device according to one or more embodiments.

[0093] According to one embodiment, when the function for sharing image quality information between multiple devices is turned on (S410), the processor (130) can identify whether the set sharing mode is the first sharing mode (S420).

[0094] If the processor (130) identifies that the set sharing mode is the first sharing mode (S420:Y), it can obtain image quality information of the set device (S430).

[0095] Additionally, if the processor (130) identifies that the set sharing mode is not the first sharing mode (S420:N), it can identify whether the set sharing mode is the second sharing mode (S44).

[0096] If the processor (130) identifies that the set sharing mode is the second sharing mode (S44:Y), it can obtain the picture quality information of the device on which the content was most recently played (S450).

[0097] For example, the first sharing mode may be a mode in which multiple devices providing MDE services share the image quality information of a preset main device (e.g., a TV). Furthermore, the second sharing mode may be a mode in which multiple devices providing MDE services share the image quality information of the final viewing device, i.e., the device on which content was most recently played.

[0098] According to one or more embodiments, the processor (130) may provide a first UI screen for selecting one of a plurality of image quality information sharing modes. For example, the first UI screen may include an option menu for selecting one of the first sharing mode and the second sharing mode. According to one example, the processor (130) may obtain image quality information of a preset device or image quality information of a device on which content was most recently played based on the image quality information sharing mode selected through the first UI screen.

[0099] According to one or more embodiments, the processor (130) may provide a second UI screen for selecting a shared image quality setting value in each of the plurality of image quality information sharing modes. For example, the second UI screen may include an options menu for selecting an image quality setting value to be shared in each of the first sharing mode and the second sharing mode.

[0100] For example, the processor (130) may acquire image quality information based on image quality setting values selected through the second UI screen in each of the multiple image quality information sharing modes. For example, preset image quality setting values may be shared in each of the first sharing mode and the second sharing mode, but only the image quality setting values selected through the second UI screen may be shared.

[0101] FIGS. 5A and 5B are drawings illustrating examples of UI screens according to one or more embodiments.

[0102] According to one or more embodiments, a UI screen for setting a quality sharing mode may include an option for setting a quality sharing setting, an option for turning the quality sharing mode ON / OFF, an option for setting the quality sharing mode, and an option for setting a main device in the first sharing mode.

[0103] As an example, a UI screen for setting a picture quality sharing mode may be provided as a menu on the execution screen of an IoT application installed on a smart phone (200) as illustrated in FIG. 5a.

[0104] For example, when an IoT application provides an option menu (511) for setting picture quality sharing on the execution screen, and the menu (511) is selected, a UI screen (510) including an option (512) for turning the picture quality sharing mode ON / OFF, an option (513) for setting the picture quality sharing mode, and an option (514) for setting the main device in the first sharing mode may be provided. For example, the title of the option menu for setting the picture quality sharing mode may be PQ MDE Setting. In addition, the option (512) for turning the picture quality sharing mode ON / OFF may be a PQ MDE ON / OFF option. In addition, the option (513) for setting the picture quality sharing mode may be a MDE PQ Main / Each option. Here, the Main mode may represent the first sharing mode that shares the picture quality information of the main device described above, and the Each mode may represent the second sharing mode that shares the picture quality information of the recently viewed device described above. The option (514) to set the main device in the first shared mode may be the MDE PQ Main Device option.

[0105] According to one or more embodiments, a UI screen for setting a picture quality sharing mode may be provided on at least one of a plurality of devices providing an MDE service, and may also be provided on a TV (100) screen as illustrated in FIG. 5b. In the case of a TV screen, the corresponding UI screen may be provided on an execution screen of an IoT application, similar to a smart phone (200), or may be provided through an OSD menu of the TV. For example, a UI screen (520) provided on a TV screen may include an option title (521) for setting picture quality information sharing, an option (521) for turning the picture quality sharing mode ON / OFF, an option (523) for setting the picture quality sharing mode, and an option (524) for setting a main device in the first sharing mode as illustrated in FIG. 5b.

[0106] However, the UI screens shown in FIGS. 5a and 5b are only examples, and the arrangement of each option, option type (toggle type, button type, etc.), and title may be changed in various ways.

[0107] FIGS. 6A to 6F are drawings for explaining various MDE services according to one or more embodiments.

[0108] Figure 6a is a diagram illustrating Coherence mode, an example of an MDE service. Coherence mode is a view mode that allows a specific application to run another application. For example, it allows for the simultaneous use of Windows and Mac applications without managing two separate desktops or rebooting. The aforementioned image quality information sharing function can also be provided between multiple devices operating in this Coherence mode.

[0109] Figure 6b is a diagram illustrating Synchronization mode, an example of an MDE service. Synchronization mode is a mode in which multiple devices are temporarily synchronized and used. Thus, the aforementioned image quality information sharing function can be provided even between multiple devices operating in Synchronization mode.

[0110] Figure 6c is a diagram illustrating Screen Sharing mode, an example of an MDE service. Screen Sharing mode is a mode for sharing the screens of multiple devices, and the aforementioned image quality information sharing function can be provided even between multiple devices operating in Screen Sharing mode.

[0111] Figure 6d is a diagram illustrating the Device Shifting mode, an example of an MDE service. Device Shifting mode operates through content shifting between multiple devices. Thus, the aforementioned image quality information sharing function can be provided between multiple devices operating in Device Shifting mode.

[0112] Figure 6e is a diagram illustrating Complementarity mode, an example of an MDE service. Complementarity mode is a mode in which multiple devices operate in a complementary manner. Thus, the aforementioned image quality information sharing function can be provided even among multiple devices operating in Complementarity mode.

[0113] Figure 6f is a diagram illustrating Simultaneity mode, an example of an MDE service. Simultaneity mode is a mode in which multiple devices operate simultaneously, and thus the aforementioned image quality information sharing function can be provided even among multiple devices operating in Simultaneity mode.

[0114] According to one or more embodiments, the electronic device (100) may change the image quality setting of the display (110) based on image quality information acquired according to the sharing mode. In one example, the electronic device (100) may identify target image quality information based on the acquired image quality information and at least one of specification information of the display (110), for example, resolution, panel type, or panel performance, and may change the image quality setting of the display (110) based on the identified target image quality information.

[0115] For example, image quality information shared between multiple devices providing an MDE service may include at least one of color temperature information, gamma information, brightness information, color information, sharpness information, motion processing information, or contrast ratio information. For example, color temperature information may be expressed as a value of 6500K to 12000K, but is not limited thereto. For example, gamma information may be expressed as a value of 2.2, 2.4, ST2084, HLG, etc. For example, brightness information may include a brightness value or a brightness ratio. For example, color information may include a color value or a color ratio. For example, sharpness information may include a sharpness value or a sharpness ratio. For example, motion processing information may include image processing information according to motion size. For example, contrast ratio information may include tone mapping curve information.

[0116] According to one or more embodiments, since the display characteristics are different for each device, even if the same image quality information is shared, it may be difficult to apply the image quality information identically to each device. For example, color temperature information and gamma information may be reflected identically across multiple devices, but brightness information, color information, sharpness information, etc. may be difficult to apply identically depending on at least one of the resolution, panel type, or panel performance of the display provided on each device. In this case, the same ratio, similar value, etc. may be applied based on the acquired image quality information. For example, if the acquired brightness information is 80% of the maximum brightness of the target device, the electronic device (100) may change the image quality setting to 80% of the maximum value of the display (110). In addition, if the electronic device (100) is a user terminal such as a smartphone, the battery status, etc. may also affect the image quality setting. For example, if the acquired brightness information is 500 nits, but the battery status of the electronic device (100) can output up to 450 nits, the image quality may be set to 450 nits. For example, if the acquired image quality setting is a function not supported by the electronic device (100), the image quality setting may be ignored or a similar image quality setting function may be applied.

[0117] FIGS. 7 and 8 are drawings for explaining a method of sharing image quality information according to one or more embodiments.

[0118] Let us assume that a first electronic device (100), a second electronic device (200), and a third electronic device (400) are registered as MDE service providing devices through a server (300) according to one or more embodiments.

[0119] For example, when content is played on the first electronic device (100), the first electronic device (100) can obtain picture quality information of the main device or the recently viewed device according to the set sharing mode. For example, the sharing mode may be set identically for multiple devices providing the MDE service, or may be set differently for each. For example, the first electronic device (100), the second electronic device (200), and the third electronic device (400) may all be set to the first sharing mode, or the first electronic device (100) may be set to the second sharing mode, and the second electronic device (200) and the third electronic device (400) may be set to the first sharing mode.

[0120] According to one or more embodiments, when the sharing mode of the first electronic device (100) is set to the second sharing mode, the first electronic device (100) may acquire image quality information of the device on which content was most recently played (or the device on which content was most recently viewed by the user) and change the image quality setting based on the acquired image quality information. For example, if the third electronic device (400) is the device on which content was most recently played, the first electronic device (100) may receive image quality information of the corresponding device from the server (300). Alternatively, the first electronic device (100) may directly receive image quality information of the corresponding device from the third electronic device (300).

[0121] For example, according to FIG. 7, a first electronic device (100) implemented as a TV can obtain image quality information of a third electronic device (400) implemented as a tablet. The first electronic device (100) can adjust the color temperature of the display (110) based on the color temperature information included in the image quality information of the third electronic device (400) and correct the gamma value of the display (110) based on the gamma information. Here, the color temperature is a number that expresses the color of a light source using absolute temperature. The color temperature may be lower for a light source with a redder color system, and the color temperature may be higher for a light source with a bluer color system. The temperature may use Kelvin, which is a traditional absolute temperature unit. Gamma is a numerical value that determines the correlation between the brightness (Gray Level) of a signal input to the display and the luminance of an image displayed on the screen. Depending on the gamma value, a difference in the brightness tone expressed may be felt even on the same screen.

[0122] In addition, the first electronic device (100) and the third electronic device (400) can change the image quality settings of the display (110) based on at least one of brightness information, color information, sharpness information, motion processing information, or contrast ratio information. For example, if it is difficult for the first electronic device (100) to directly reflect the image quality value of the third electronic device (400), it can reflect it in the form of an appropriate factor, such as a ratio or similar value.

[0123] For example, according to FIG. 8, a first electronic device (100) implemented as a projector device can obtain image quality information of a third electronic device (400) implemented as a tablet. The first electronic device (100) can adjust the brightness of a projected image based on brightness information included in the obtained image quality information of the third electronic device (400). However, it may be difficult to set the same brightness depending on the image projection function of the first electronic device (100) and at least one of the specification information of the display provided in the third electronic device (400), for example, resolution, panel type, or panel performance. Based on the image projection function of the first electronic device (100) and at least one of the resolution, panel type, or panel performance of the display provided in the third electronic device (400), the brightness of the projected image can be adjusted so that the brightness of the image projected through the first electronic device (100) is similar to the brightness of the image provided through the display provided in the third electronic device (400).

[0124] According to one or more embodiments, the electronic device (100) may acquire target image quality information of the electronic device (100) based on image quality information of an external device acquired using a learning network model. For example, the electronic device (100) may input the acquired image quality information of the external device and specification information (e.g., display specification information) of the electronic device (100) into the learning network model to acquire target image quality information for implementing the same image quality in the electronic device (100).

[0125] According to the various embodiments described above, the same picture quality experience can be provided among multiple devices providing MDE services, thereby improving the user UX experience.
