AI Technical Summary
Existing floating breakwaters, particularly concrete ones, are inefficient in handling high tides, with efficiencies ranging from 30% to 20% for tides above 3 meters, and are hindered by high production and transportation costs due to heavy weight, limiting their effectiveness and usability in offshore areas.
A new generation of floating breakwaters combining concrete and metal structures with a unique geometry, featuring prefabricated components and innovative wave-deflection mechanisms, reduces wave energy and weight, enhancing efficiency to up to 90% and facilitating easier transportation and installation.
The solution significantly reduces wave energy loss, decreases production and transportation costs, and enables the creation of safe marine areas for coastal and offshore facilities, addressing the inefficiencies and weight-related challenges of traditional breakwaters.

Abstract
Description
Floating break water
[0001] This is an invention of a new generation of floating breakwater that fights sea tides with a new geometry. Actually, by a new method, it reduces the force of the tides and brings a safe marine area for coastal or offshore areas with maximum efficiency for clients or governments.
[0002] The types of floating breakwater are as follows:
[0003] Polyethylene floating breakwaters, which are mainly used on very close beaches and can hold on against tides of 50 cm.
[0004] Combined floating breakwater, this model is made of polyethylene and metal. These types of breakwaters include a floating pontoon made of polyethylene and an aluminum structure, which definitely is rarely used in global markets and can hold on against tides up to 1 meter high.
[0005] Concrete breakwaters: 80% of the world markets are dedicated to this type of breakwaters. These types of breakwaters are usually used on beaches less than 20 to 30 meters deep in the sea and have average efficiency. Also, they have the ability to hold on against tides up to 2 to 3 meters, but they have average efficiency in these tides as well. This example of breakwaters has a concrete floating pontoon that has been used in the world since 1980 and during these 43 years only their width has increased. And until now, they have not changed much to improve efficiency, they also have many problems that we will be mentioned through the next part.
[0006] The main motive of this invention is to produce a new generation of floating breakwaters, which has a very high efficiency with a new geometry ,as well it weighs much less. On the other hand, this new breakwater can be used both on the coast and offshore. Also, according to the client's needs, they can be made in several sizes, these breakwaters can be made from 50 cm high to 10 m high
[0007] This means that these breakwaters meet the needs of clients for tide heights from 50 cm to 10 meters) and its production cost is reasonable.
[0008] This breakwater is a combination of concrete and metal structure that is prefabricated in the factory and is rapidly fixed to each other at the project site by bolts and nuts. Also, the life of these structures is much longer than the old concrete breakwaters.
[0009] Since polyethylene breakwaters are not effective against tides of more than 1 meter, we will focus more on the defects of concrete breakwaters in this part.
[0010] Concrete breakwaters are moderately efficient in dealing with tides in height range of 2-3 meters and can’t be more efficient than 30 meters on beaches, because these types of breakwaters can be between 30 and 50 percent effective in dealing with tides of 2-3 meters. This means that, for example, if 3-meter tide waves hit them, about 1.5-2-meter tide waves will easily pass over the crest of the concrete breakwater.
[0011] If 4 -6 meter tide hits concrete breakwaters, its maximum efficiency will be 10% to 20%, which is a disaster.
[0012] As a matter of fact, these breakwaters are more ripples than breakwaters, so the needs of clients, which is to provide a calm sea environment, cannot be met in many sea places.
[0013] Since the freeboard part of these breakwaters is in the best case between 50 cm-80 cm, the tides hit their vertical wall, so the passing tide passes through the crest of the breakwater in a cascaded and organized manner. This issue forms a new tide and this factor endangers the safe (marine or…) area.
[0014] Freeboard: The free surface above the sea water line is called a freeboard breakwater.
[0015] Since these breakwaters are only designed for medium height tides and are for beaches, therefore, it can be definitively said that no breakwater has been built in the offshore direction. Also, the current breakwaters have created at least a safe sea zone for the beaches.
[0016] Since the existing breakwaters are not effective in dealing with tides of 3-4 meters or more, it can be said that this human need has not been resolved up to the present. But different companies and governments are always in dire need of a new generation breakwater that can deal with high tides of 4-10 meters and keep various coastal facilities or areas they want safe.
[0017] The very heavy weight of these breakwaters has caused the cost of transportation from the factory to the destination country (project site) not to be transported by container .Therefore, special closed vessels are used for transportation. Consequently the cost of moving them is very high. For example, a concrete pontoon with dimensions of 16 x 3 meters weighs 21,000 kilograms.
[0018] The heavy weight of these breakwaters, especially if the width of the pontoons reaches 10 meters, is equivalent to 200,000 kilograms. This raises the cost of mooring in the sea much higher, so the breakwaters are facing more challenges for restraining this type of breakwater.
[0019] The cost of producing and implementing this type of breakwater is very high.as a consequence, this product is sold at a high price in the market.
[0020] In this invention, by combining concrete structure and metal structure, we change the behavior of the tide in such a way that the tides lose their maximum energy while passing through the different layers of this breakwater and finally, they lose their integrity when passing through the superstructure. On the whole, this issue reduces the passing of tides from the crest of the breakwater to the minimum possible and brings a safe marine area with much less risk to clients.
[0021] In this invention, by reducing the weight of the entire structure, you get the following benefits:
[0022] The cost of production decreases
[0023] The cost of transportation from the factory to the project site is greatly reduced
[0024] It is possible to move these breakwaters by a normal container which reduces the concern of clients for moving.
[0025] The cost of mooring for these breakwaters is reduced
[0026] The efficiency of these breakwaters can be up to 90%, so the risk of using old breakwaters is out of concern.
[0027] The climate changes that have affected the whole world in the last 2-3 years have caused the height of the sea tides and the intensity of the tides to be changed. Therefore, the power of the tides has become much greater than in the past. With this invention, it will be possible to create a marine safe zone in any part of the sea.
