AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing X-ray fluoroscopy techniques face challenges in minimizing the total accumulated X-ray and contrast agent dose for patients, while maintaining required imaging quality.

Method used

The system employs spectral imaging by processing multi-energy projection data to improve image quality, reduce X-ray dose, and decrease contrast agent usage. This is achieved through a multi-channel input interface, per-channel processing, and combining of spectral projection data sets to enhance contrast, reduce noise, and minimize cross-channel interference.

Benefits of technology

The proposed spectral imaging technique enhances image quality by improving contrast and reducing noise, thereby allowing for a reduction in X-ray and contrast agent doses, which benefits patient safety and reduces potential health risks.

Abstract

Image processing system and related method. The system comprises a multi-channel input interface (IN) for receiving a data stream of spectral projection data. The data stream includes two sets, a first set and a second set, the first set of spectral projection data representative of a first type of attenuation at different contrasts, and a second set of spectral projection data representative of a second type of attenuation at different contrasts. The different contrasts are due to a first object (CA) that is movable relative to a second object (ANA) and into a field of view of the imaging apparatus, whilst the projection raw data is so acquirable. A per-channel processer (CP) process the two sets to obtain a processed data set so as to improve image quality of the said set. An output interface (OUT) provides the processed set. The system act as an image quality booster.
