Description

Electronic device supporting non-terrestrial network communication and its operating method

[0001] One embodiment of the present disclosure relates to an electronic device supporting non-terrestrial network communication and a method of operating the same.

[0002] Recently, electronic devices supporting non-terrestrial network communications (e.g., satellite communications) are being actively introduced. For example, electronic devices can communicate with satellites operated by existing satellite communication companies by utilizing their frequencies and communication methods. For example, electronic devices can communicate with satellites using cellular frequencies based on the LTE (long-term evolution) standard (or 5G standard). For example, electronic devices can also communicate with satellites based on the 5G NTN (non-terrestrial networks) standard. In wireless communication systems, electronic devices (e.g., user equipment (UE)) can access wireless communication networks and use voice or data communication services at a specific location or while moving. Providing communication services to electronic devices requires an appropriate authentication process. A UICC (universal integrated circuit card) is inserted into the electronic device, and authentication is performed between the electronic device and the mobile network operator (MNO) server through the USIM (universal subscriber identity module) installed within the UICC. UICC can be called a SIM (subscriber identity module) card for GSM (global system for mobile communications) and a USIM (universal subscriber identity module) card for WCDMA (wideband code division multiple access) and LTE (long term evolution) methods. The above USIM card or SIM card may exist in the form of an independent UICC, may exist in the form embedded in an electronic device (e.g., embedded SIM, eSIM), or may exist in the form integrated in at least one of the chips included in the electronic device (e.g., integrated SIM, iSIM).

The electronic device (101) may include a first slot (not shown) and a second slot (not shown) as structures therein to accommodate the first SIM (111) and the second SIM (112), respectively.

[0061] For example, the first SIM (111) is a SIM subscribed to a telecommunications carrier of the first communication network (111a), and the electronic device (101) can receive wireless communication services by connecting to the first communication network (111a) using the first SIM (111). The second SIM (112) is a SIM subscribed to a telecommunications carrier of the second communication network (112a), and the electronic device (101) can receive wireless communication services by connecting to the second communication network (112a) using the second SIM (112). The first communication network (111a) and the second communication network (112a) may be provided by the same telecommunications carrier, or may be provided by different telecommunications carriers, respectively. If the first communication network (111a) and the second communication network (112a) are provided by the same telecommunications carrier, the first communication network (111a) and the second communication network (112a) may refer to the same network. Alternatively, different carriers may share a communication network. For example, a first carrier may utilize a first communication network (111a), and a second carrier may also be configured to utilize a second communication network (112a). In one embodiment, although not illustrated, the electronic device (101) may further include at least one SIM, and those skilled in the art will readily understand that there is no limitation on the number or type of SIM.

For example, the satellite may include a mobile satellite and / or a geostationary satellite.

[0066] The non-terrestrial wireless communication device (220) can support at least one of various wireless communication methods. For example, the non-terrestrial wireless communication device (220) can support the NR NTN (non-terrestrial network) defined by the 3rd generation partnership project (3GPP). The electronic device (101) may support a non-terrestrial network using a plurality of antennas among the antennas supporting a terrestrial network.

[0084] Hereinafter, in the present disclosure, a satellite is mainly mentioned as a non-terrestrial wireless communication device (220), and although it is mentioned that the satellite provides wireless communication using a specific radio access technology (RAT) (e.g., LTE) or a specific function (e.g., base station), this is only an example and the type is not limited.

[0085] FIG. 3 is a drawing for explaining the connection of an electronic device according to one embodiment of the present disclosure.

[0086] According to one embodiment, the electronic device (101) may be located within the coverage (315) of the terrestrial wireless communication device (210) (hereinafter, referred to as terrestrial wireless communication coverage (315)) and / or within the coverage (325) of the non-terrestrial wireless communication device (220) (hereinafter, referred to as non-terrestrial wireless communication coverage (325)). The non-terrestrial wireless communication coverage (325) may be relatively larger (e.g., 50 times larger) than the terrestrial wireless communication coverage (315). For example, the non-terrestrial wireless communication coverage (325) may cover an area that the coverage (315) of the terrestrial wireless communication device (210) does not cover, and thus, the electronic device (101) may perform communication even in an area where terrestrial wireless communication is not supported.

[0087] According to one embodiment, the electronic device (101) can perform a cell scan within the terrestrial wireless communication coverage (315) and / or the non-terrestrial wireless communication coverage (325). As a result of performing the cell scan, the electronic device (101) can check the cell provided by the terrestrial wireless communication device (210) and / or the cell provided by the non-terrestrial wireless communication device (220). If there is a cell that satisfies the cell selection condition, the electronic device (101) can perform at least some of the operations for connecting to a network (e.g., a non-terrestrial network and / or a terrestrial network). Here, connecting to the network may include, but is not limited to, at least some of the preceding operations for registration to the network (e.g., camp on, or a connection procedure (e.g., a random access (RA) procedure)) and / or a registration operation to the network (e.g., attach, or registration). The electronic device (101) may perform at least some of the disconnection operations when disconnection from a network is required (e.g., moving to a different network). The disconnection operation from the network may include at least some of the following operations: detaching from the network, disconnecting the connection, and / or declaring a radio link failure (RLF), but is not limited to the listed operations.

[0088] According to one embodiment, the electronic device (101) may perform at least some of the following operations: cell scanning, disconnecting from a network, and / or connecting to a network, depending on movement (330, 335).

[0090] FIG. 4 is a drawing for explaining a non-terrestrial network system (400) according to one embodiment of the present disclosure.

[0091] Referring to FIG. 4, the non-terrestrial network system (400) may include a non-terrestrial wireless communication device (220), a radio unit (415), a packet core (430), and / or a PDN (440).

[0092] According to one embodiment, the non-terrestrial network system (400) may be implemented in a regenerative manner, for example. When implemented in a regenerative manner, at least one non-terrestrial wireless communication device (220) may include a base station (e.g., an eNode B). The non-terrestrial network system (400) may be implemented in a bent-pipe manner, for example. The bent-pipe manner may include a passive relay method that performs frequency conversion and power amplification on a received signal. When the non-terrestrial network system (400) is implemented in a bent-pipe manner, at least one non-terrestrial wireless communication device (220) may include a relay that converts (e.g., amplifies) and transmits a signal. The implementation manner of the non-terrestrial network system (400) and the role of the non-terrestrial wireless communication device (220) described in FIG. 4 are merely examples and are not limited thereto.

[0093] According to one embodiment, the non-terrestrial wireless communication device (220) may include at least one satellite. The non-terrestrial wireless communication device (220) may perform communication with the electronic device (101) using, for example, a terrestrial network (e.g., a cellular network) band and / or a non-terrestrial network band. The terrestrial network band may be, for example, an operating band supported by long term evolution (LTE) and / or new radio (NR), but is not limited thereto. The non-terrestrial network band may include, but is not limited to, a band defined by 3GPP (e.g., n255 and / or n256 bands).

[0094] According to one embodiment, at least one radio unit (415) may receive a signal from a non-terrestrial wireless communication device (220) and transmit it to a packet core (430). The radio unit (415) and the non-terrestrial wireless communication device (220) may communicate using, for example, a non-terrestrial network band. The non-terrestrial network band may be different from the terrestrial network band, but may be set to be the same in some cases.

[0095] According to one embodiment, at least one packet core (430) can transmit and receive data associated with the electronic device (101) using the radio unit (415). Accordingly, the packet core (430) can process the data associated with the electronic device (101) and transmit it to a packet data network (PDN) (440) (e.g., the Internet). The packet core (415) can include, for example, at least a portion of an evolved packet core (EPC) and / or a 5G core (5GC), but is not limited thereto. The packet core (430) can include a packet core associated with a non-terrestrial wireless communication device (220) operator and / or a packet core associated with a mobile network operator (MNO). The packet core (430) can be additionally connected to a public switched telephone network (PSTN) (not shown) to transmit and receive data associated with the electronic device (101).

[0096] FIG. 5A is a flowchart illustrating an operating method of an electronic device according to one embodiment of the present disclosure. The embodiment of FIG. 5A will be described with reference to FIG. 5B. FIG. 5B is a diagram illustrating an electronic device according to one embodiment.

[0097] Referring to FIGS. 5A and 5B together, according to one embodiment, the electronic device (101) (e.g., the processor (120)) may, in operation 501, determine a failure in a first communication corresponding to a first protocol stack (511) and a failure in a second communication corresponding to a second protocol stack (512). For example, the electronic device (101) may perform the first communication corresponding to the first protocol stack (511) using information associated with the first SIM (111). For example, the electronic device (101) may perform the second communication corresponding to the second protocol stack (512) using information associated with the second SIM (112). For example, the information associated with the first SIM (111) and / or the second SIM (112) may be replaced with information stored in the eSIM (191) (for example, but not limited to, a profile activated based on the eSIM (191)). Thereafter, the electronic device (101) may determine a failure in performing the first communication and a failure in performing the second communication. For example, the electronic device (101) may determine a failure based on going out of coverage, entering a shadow area, and / or a weak electric field, but the cause of the failure is not limited. As described above, the electronic device (101) may fail both the first communication corresponding to the first protocol stack (511) using the information associated with the first SIM (111) and the second communication corresponding to the second protocol stack (512) using the information associated with the second SIM (112). For convenience of explanation, a failure of a first communication corresponding to a first protocol stack (511) using information associated with a first SIM (111) may be referred to as a failure of a communication associated with a first SIM (111), and a failure of a second communication corresponding to a second protocol stack (512) may be referred to as a failure of a communication associated with a second SIM (112).Meanwhile, in FIG. 5b, it is expressed as if the processor (120) includes protocol stacks (511, 512), but this is an example and may mean that the processor (120) (e.g., a communication processor) can perform at least one instruction using the protocol stacks (511, 512), and there is no limitation.

[0098] A first protocol stack (511) corresponding to a first SIM (111) (or corresponding to a slot corresponding to the first SIM (111) or corresponding to a first RF path) may include a global mode control (GMC) layer (521), a radio resource management (RRM) layer (522) and / or an L1 (523), but it should be understood that at least one layer may be named by another layer (or another term), at least one layer may be omitted, and / or at least one additional layer may be included in the first protocol stack (511). It will be understood by those skilled in the art that some of the expressions corresponding to a “slot,” corresponding to a SIM (or an activated profile) inserted into (or associated with) the slot, corresponding to a protocol stack corresponding to the slot, and corresponding to an RF path corresponding to the protocol stack may be used interchangeably. The electronic device (101) may perform communication associated with the first protocol stack (511) (or associated with the first SIM (111)) by using, for example, a first RF path corresponding to the first protocol stack (511). Here, the first RF path may include, for example, at least one hardware for generating and / or processing (e.g., amplifying and / or path-changing) a signal (e.g., a baseband signal, an IF signal, and / or an RF signal, but without limitation) based on the first protocol stack (511). For example, the first RF path may include a first antenna (543) and a first RF circuit (541).The first RF circuit (541) may include, but is not limited to, at least one hardware for reception, such as a low-noise amplifier for amplifying an RF signal output from the first antenna (543), an RFIC (or a part thereof) for converting the amplified RF signal into a baseband signal, and / or a switch for path connection. The first RF circuit (541) may include, but is not limited to, at least one hardware for transmission, such as an RFIC (or a part thereof) for converting a baseband signal into an RF signal, a power amplifier for amplifying the RF signal, and / or a switch for path connection. The second protocol stack (512) corresponding to the second SIM (112) (or corresponding to a slot corresponding to the second SIM (112) or corresponding to the second RF path) may include a GMC layer (531), an RRM layer (532), and / or an L1 (533). The GMC layers (521, 531) can, for example, but not limited to, instruct, trigger, and / or perform PLMN (public land mobile network) and / or cell selection to lower layers. As will be described later, at least some of the GMC layers (521, 531) can compile a list of searched cells and / or select a cell from the compiled list, but not limited to who performs the compilation. For example, the GMC layers (521, 531) can determine whether the current state is in service (also referred to as in-service) or out of service (also referred to as out of service). For example, the GMC layers (521, 531) can determine whether a scan for cell search in the case of out of service is required, and if a scan is required, trigger (or instruct a lower layer (e.g., but not limited to, the RRM layer (522, 532)) to perform a cell search. For example, the GMC layers (521, 531) may verify the cell search method. For example, the GMC layers (521, 531) may perform subsequent operations (e.g., performing searches according to determined intervals and / or selecting RATs for subsequent searches) when cell verification according to the cell search fails. For example, the GMC layers (521, 531) may verify a cell list (e.g., may be named an available cell list but is not limited thereto and may include available cells and / or suitable cells) and / or perform cell selection from the cell list. The second RF path may include at least one hardware for generating and / or processing (e.g., amplifying and / or rerouting) a signal (e.g., may be a baseband signal, an IF signal, and / or an RF signal but is not limited thereto) based on, for example, the second protocol stack (512). The RRM layers (522, 532) can, for example, perform management of wireless resources, but are not limited thereto. The L1 layers (523, 533) can, for example, be physical layers, but are not limited thereto. The first RF path and the second RF path can be at least partially different, and thus the electronic device (101) can perform a first communication associated with the first SIM (111) (or the first protocol stack (511)) based on the first RF path, and perform a second communication associated with the second SIM (112) (or the second protocol stack (512)) based on the second RF path. For example, the electronic device (101) is a device that supports the DSDA mode, and thus at least a part of the first communication and at least a part of the second communication may be performed simultaneously.

[0099] For example, the electronic device (101) may perform a first communication associated with the first SIM (111) (or the first protocol stack (511)) based on the first RF path, and perform a second communication associated with the second SIM (112) (or the second protocol stack (512)) based on the second RF path, and may determine a failure of the first communication and the second communication. Alternatively, the electronic device (101) may be configured to perform only the first communication associated with the first SIM (111) (or the first protocol stack (511)), and then perform subsequent operations depending on a failure of the first communication. Alternatively, the electronic device (101) may be configured to perform only the second communication associated with the second SIM (112) (or the second protocol stack (512)), and then perform subsequent operations depending on a failure of the second communication.

[0100] According to one embodiment, in operation 503, based on the confirmation of failure of the first communication and failure of the second communication, the electronic device (101) may perform at least one first scan for at least a portion of a first portion of the plurality of frequencies for non-terrestrial communication supported by the electronic device (101) using a first RF path corresponding to the first SIM (111) (or the first protocol stack (511)), and may perform at least one second scan for at least a portion of a second portion, different from the first portion, of the plurality of frequencies for non-terrestrial communication supported by the electronic device (101) using a second RF path corresponding to the second SIM (112) (or the second protocol stack (512)). Meanwhile, depending on the implementation, the electronic device (101) may perform a scan for terrestrial network communication after confirming a communication failure, and may perform operation 503 if no terrestrial network cell is detected as a result of the scan, but there is no limitation on the implementation. Various examples of scans based on both RF paths of the first part and the second part will be described with reference to FIGS. 6A to 6C. For example, the electronic device (101) may decide to perform a full scan for the non-terrestrial network, and thus may perform a scan for the first part using the first RF path and a scan for the second part using the second RF path, as in operation 503. For example, the electronic device (101) may decide to perform a full scan for the non-terrestrial network based on confirmation of a failure of the first communication and a failure of the second communication and satisfaction of an additional condition. For example, the electronic device (101) may decide to perform a scan for a non-terrestrial network if cell detection fails based on the results of performing a scan for a terrestrial network (e.g., a scan based on stored information and / or a full scan for the terrestrial network), which is an example of an additional condition. In this case, the electronic device (101) may perform a scan based on stored information about the non-terrestrial network. The electronic device (101) may decide to perform a full scan of the non-terrestrial network if cell detection fails according to a scan of the non-terrestrial network (or may be referred to as a stored scan) based on stored information, which is an example of an additional condition. Alternatively, the electronic device (101) may decide to perform a full scan of the non-terrestrial network immediately if cell detection fails according to a terrestrial network scan, which is an example of an additional condition. Those skilled in the art will understand that the above-described additional conditions for a full scan of the non-terrestrial network may be applied not only to the present embodiment but also to other embodiments. In the case of the terrestrial network, the supported operating bands may be different for each SIM (111, 112) (or for each operator corresponding to each SIM (111, 112)). However, the types of operating bands corresponding to non-terrestrial networks are relatively small, and therefore, the possibility that different operators will support the same (or partially different) operating bands is relatively high. For example, in the case of operating bands for non-terrestrial networks, the operating bands of S-band and Ka-band are applied according to the 3GPP standard body standard (TS38.821), and the types are relatively small compared to the various bands of terrestrial networks. Accordingly, if scanning is performed separately for each SIM, there may be a high possibility of performing searches for overlapping bands. If an independent full scan of a non-terrestrial network is performed based on the first SIM (111) (or the first protocol stack) and an independent full scan of a non-terrestrial network is performed based on the second SIM (112) (or the second protocol stack), there is a possibility that scans for the same frequency will be duplicated, which may cause a delay in the performance of non-terrestrial network communication services. For example, it is possible that operators corresponding to both SIMs (111, 112) allocate the same operating band for non-terrestrial network communications. In this case, even though it is the same operating band, the electronic device (101) may scan the frequencies included in the operating band using the first RF path corresponding to the first SIM (111) and may scan the frequencies included in the operating band using the second RF path corresponding to the second SIM (112), and thus there is a possibility that duplicate scans may be performed for the frequencies included in one operating band. Among the non-terrestrial communication services, there may be services required in an emergency situation (e.g., an emergency call), and there is a possibility that a delay in performing the service may cause a serious situation. Accordingly, in a case where the use of a non-terrestrial network is required (e.g., an emergency situation), the electronic device (101) may divide a plurality of frequencies for non-terrestrial communication and scan them using different RF paths (e.g., a first RF path corresponding to the first SIM (111) and a second RF path corresponding to the second SIM (112), thereby reducing the possibility of delay in performing the non-terrestrial communication service.

[0101] Although not shown, the electronic device (101) may perform at least one operation for accessing the detected cell when a cell is detected according to the scan result. The cell may be a suitable cell and / or an acceptable cell, but there is no limitation. If a cell is not detected according to the scan result, the electronic device (101) may continue a split scan of frequencies for a full scan for a non-terrestrial network, perform a scan for the terrestrial network, or perform a scan based on stored information for the non-terrestrial network, but there is no limitation.

[0102] FIG. 5c illustrates a flowchart for explaining a method of operating an electronic device according to one embodiment of the present disclosure.

[0103] According to one embodiment, the electronic device (101) may perform a first scan for a first portion of a plurality of frequencies for non-terrestrial communication using a first RF path corresponding to a first SIM (111) in operation 581. The electronic device (101) may perform a second scan for a second portion of a plurality of frequencies for non-terrestrial communication using a second RF path corresponding to a second SIM (112) while the first scan is being performed in operation 583. Here, the second portion may include at least different frequencies from the first portion. As described above, since the second scan using the second RF path is performed while the first scan using the first RF path is being performed, a relatively fast scan for non-terrestrial communication may be performed, and duplicate scans for one frequency may be prevented. In operation 585, the electronic device (101) may perform at least one operation for accessing a cell identified by the second scan using the first SIM (111). For example, the electronic device (101) may identify a cell based on the second scan. If the cell identified based on the second scan is identified as being associated with the first SIM (111), the electronic device (101) may perform at least one operation for accessing the cell identified by the second scan using the first SIM (I11).

[0104] FIG. 6A is a diagram for explaining a frequency scan according to one embodiment of the present disclosure.

[0105] Referring to FIG. 6A, according to one embodiment, the electronic device (101) is configured to support a first operating band (Band #1) (601) and a second operating band (Band #2) (602) for non-terrestrial network communication. The electronic device (101) may perform at least one scan for the first operating band (Band #1) (601) using a first RF path (e.g., but not limited to, at least a portion of the first RF circuit (541) and the first antenna (543)) corresponding to the first SIM (111). The electronic device (101) can perform at least one scan for a second operating band (Band #2) (602) using a second RF path (e.g., but not limited to, at least a portion of the second RF circuit (542) and the second antenna (544)) corresponding to the second SIM (112). A portion of the at least one scan for the first operating band (601) and a portion of the at least one scan for the second operating band (602) can be performed substantially simultaneously, but is not limited to.

[0106] For example, the first operating band (Band #1) (601) may be the N1 operating band of NR (new radio), and the downlink of the N1 operating band may be 2110 to 2170 MHz. The electronic device (101) may perform a scan for frequencies included in the 2110 to 2170 MHz using, for example, a first RF path corresponding to the first SIM (111) (e.g., at least a portion of the first RF circuit (541) and the first antenna (543), but not limited thereto). The second operating band (Band #2) (602) may be the N256 operating band of NR, and the downlink of the N256 operating band may be 2170 to 2200 MHz. As described above, scans may be performed for operating bands having different operating band identification numbers for the same radio access technology (RAT), respectively. The electronic device (101) may perform a scan for frequencies included in the 2170 to 2200 MHz range, for example, by using a second RF path corresponding to the second SIM (112) (e.g., at least a portion of the second RF circuit (542) and the second antenna (544), but without limitation). Meanwhile, this is exemplary, and scans may be performed for operating bands having different operating band identification numbers of different RATs, respectively, for example.

[0107] If the present embodiment is not applied, for a full scan of a non-terrestrial network, the electronic device (101) may perform a scan for frequencies included in the first operating band (Band #1) (601) and the second operating band (Band #2) (602), for example, 2110 to 2170 MHz and 2170 to 2200 MHz, using the first RF path based on the first SIM, and may perform a scan for frequencies included in the first operating band (Band #1) (601) and the second operating band (Band #2) (602), for example, 2110 to 2170 MHz and 2170 to 2200 MHz, using the second RF path based on the second SIM, so that some frequency sections overlap (e.g., 2110 to 2200 MHz) among the scans performed by each of the first SIM and the second SIM. In contrast, the electronic device (101) according to one embodiment may perform a scan for frequencies included in a first operating band (Band #1) (601), for example, 2110 to 2170 MHz, using a first RF path, and perform a scan for frequencies included in a second operating band (Band #2) (602), for example, 2170 to 2200 MHz, using a second RF path, so that not only redundant scanning is prevented, but also the time required for the entire full scan to be completed can be reduced.

[0108] For example, a period of time during which at least one scan for the first operating band (Band #1) (601) is performed may be at least partially the same as a period of time during which at least one scan for the second operating band (602) is performed. For example, a period of time during which at least one scan for the first operating band (Band #1) (601) is performed may include a period of time during which at least one scan for the second operating band (602) is performed. For example, a period of time during which at least one scan for the second operating band (602) is performed may include a period of time during which at least one scan for the first operating band (Band #1) (601) is performed. For example, a portion of a period during which at least one scan for the first operating band (Band #1) (601) is performed may overlap with a portion of a period during which at least one scan for the second operating band (602) is performed. For example, a period of at least one scan for a first operating band (Band #1) (601) and a period of at least one scan for a second operating band (602) may be included together within a given time unit. In this case, even if the period of at least one scan for the first operating band (Band #1) (601) and the period of at least one scan for the second operating band (602) do not physically overlap, it can be expressed that at least one scan for the first operating band (Band #1) (601) and at least one scan for the second operating band (602) can be performed simultaneously, and those skilled in the art will understand that this can be applied to “simultaneous performance” not only in the present embodiment but also in other embodiments. Meanwhile, as described above, the division into equal sizes (e.g., one operating band each) is merely exemplary, and more frequencies may be assigned to an RF path corresponding to a specific SIM than to other RF paths, and this can be applied not only in the present embodiment but also in other embodiments.Meanwhile, the electronic device (101) may pre-store information on the frequencies to be scanned for each RF path (or each SIM, each slot, or each protocol stack), and may perform scanning using the stored information during a full scan. The stored information may not be changed, but may be changed depending on the situation. Alternatively, the electronic device (101) may be configured to divide frequencies at the time of scanning, without limitation.

[0109] FIG. 6b is a diagram for explaining a frequency scan according to one embodiment of the present disclosure.

[0110] Referring to FIG. 6B, according to one embodiment, the electronic device (101) is configured to support a first operating band (Band #1) (601) for non-terrestrial network communication. The electronic device (101) may perform at least one scan for a first portion (611) of the first operating band (Band #1) (601) using a first RF path (e.g., but not limited to, at least a portion of the first RF circuit (541) and the first antenna (543)) corresponding to the first SIM (111). The electronic device (101) can perform at least one scan of a second portion (612) of a first operating band (Band #1) (601) using a second RF path (e.g., but not limited to, at least a portion of the second RF circuit (542) and the second antenna (544)) corresponding to the second SIM (112).

[0111] At least a portion of one scan of the first portion (611) of the first operating band (601) and at least a portion of one scan of the second portion (612) of the first operating band (601) may be performed substantially simultaneously, but there is no limitation.

[0112] For example, the first operating band (Band #1) (601) may be the N1 operating band of NR. The electronic device (101) may perform a scan for frequencies included in the first portion (611) of 2110 to 2140 MHz, which is 2110 to 2170 MHz, using, for example, a first RF path (e.g., but not limited to, at least a portion of the first RF circuit (541) and the first antenna (543)) corresponding to the first SIM (111). The electronic device (101) may perform a scan for frequencies included in the second portion (612) of 2110 to 2170 MHz, for example, using a second RF path (e.g., but not limited to, at least a portion of the second RF circuit (542) and the second antenna (544)) corresponding to the second SIM (112).

[0113] If the present embodiment is not applied, for a full scan of a non-terrestrial network, the electronic device (101) may perform a scan for frequencies included in a first operating band (Band #1) (601), for example, 2110 to 2170 MHz, using a first RF path, and may perform a scan for frequencies included in a first operating band (Band #1) (601), for example, 2110 to 2170 MHz, using a second RF path, and thus, duplicate scans may be performed for some frequencies, and thus, there is a possibility that a non-terrestrial network communication connection may be delayed. In contrast, an electronic device (101) according to one embodiment can perform a scan for frequencies included in a first portion (611) of a first operating band (Band #1) (601), for example, 2110 to 2140 MHz, using a first RF path, and can perform a scan for frequencies included in a second portion (612) of the first operating band (Band #1) (601), for example, 2141 to 2170 MHz, using a second RF path, so that not only can duplicate scans be prevented, but also the time required for the entire full scan to be completed can be reduced.

[0114] FIG. 6c is a diagram for explaining a frequency scan according to one embodiment of the present disclosure.

[0115] Referring to FIG. 6C, according to one embodiment, the electronic device (101) is configured to support operating bands based on different RATs for the same frequency range. For example, the electronic device (101) is configured to support, for example, the N1 operating band (621) of NR and the B1 operating band (622) of E-UTRA (or LTE) for non-terrestrial network communication. The electronic device (101) may perform at least one scan for the N1 operating band (621) using a first RF path (e.g., but not limited to, at least a portion of the first RF circuit (541) and the first antenna (543)) corresponding to the first SIM (111). The electronic device (101) may perform at least one scan for the B1 operating band (622) using a second RF path corresponding to the second SIM (112) (e.g., but not limited to, at least a portion of the second RF circuit (542) and the second antenna (544). Some of the at least one scan for the N1 operating band (621) and some of the B1 operating band (622) may be performed substantially simultaneously, but is not limited to.

[0116] For example, the frequency range of the downlink of the N1 operating band (621) and the B1 operating band (622) may be 2110 to 2170 MHz. For example, as described above, scans may be performed for operating bands having the same operating band identification number for different RATs, for example. The electronic device (101) may perform an NR-based scan for frequencies included in the 2110 to 2170 MHz range, for example, by using a first RF path (e.g., but not limited to, at least a portion of the first RF circuit (541) and the first antenna (543)) corresponding to the first SIM (111). The electronic device (101) may perform an E-UTRA-based scan for frequencies included in 2110 to 2170 MHz, for example, using a second RF path (e.g., but not limited to, at least a portion of the second RF circuit (542) and the second antenna (544)) corresponding to the second SIM (112).

[0117] If the present embodiment is not applied, for a full scan of a non-terrestrial network, the electronic device (101) may perform a NR-based scan for frequencies included in, for example, 2110 to 2170 MHz and an E-UTRA-based scan for frequencies included in 2110 to 2170 MHz using a first RF path, and may perform a NR-based scan for frequencies included in, for example, 2110 to 2170 MHz and an E-UTRA-based scan for frequencies included in 2110 to 2170 MHz using a second RF path, and thus, duplicate scans may be performed for some frequencies, and thus, there is a possibility that a non-terrestrial network communication connection may be delayed. In contrast, an electronic device (101) according to one embodiment may perform an NR-based scan for frequencies included in, for example, 2110 to 2170 MHz using a first RF path, and an E-UTRA-based scan for frequencies included in, for example, 2110 to 2170 MHz using a second RF path, thereby not only preventing duplicate scans but also reducing the time required for a full full scan to be completed. As described above, split scans for operating bands having the same frequency range but different RATs may also be possible.

[0118] FIG. 7A illustrates a flowchart for explaining an operation method of an electronic device according to one embodiment of the present disclosure. The embodiment of FIG. 7A will be described with reference to FIG. 7B. FIG. 7B are drawings for explaining connections according to one embodiment of the present disclosure.

[0119] Referring to FIGS. 7A and 7B , according to one embodiment, the electronic device (101) (e.g., the processor (120)) may, in operation 701, determine a failure for a first communication corresponding to a first protocol stack (511) and a failure for a second communication corresponding to a second protocol stack (512). In operation 703, the electronic device (101) may perform at least one first scan for at least a portion of a first portion among a plurality of frequencies for non-terrestrial communication supported by the electronic device (101) using a first RF path corresponding to the first SIM (111) (or the first protocol stack (511)), based on the confirmation of a failure in the first communication and a failure in the second communication, and may perform at least one second scan for at least a portion of a second portion different from the first portion among a plurality of frequencies for non-terrestrial communication supported by the electronic device (101) using a second RF path corresponding to the second SIM (112) (or the second protocol stack (512)). For example, the electronic device (101) may also perform a scan for terrestrial communication based on the confirmation of communication failures before operation 703 is performed. If no terrestrial cell is detected as a result of the scan for terrestrial network communication, the electronic device (101) may perform operation 703, which is exemplary and not limiting. In operation 705, the electronic device (101) may perform at least one operation for accessing at least one first cell identified according to at least one first scan and at least one cell identified according to at least some of the at least one second scan. For example, the electronic device (101) may perform, but is not limited to, a camp-on procedure for the identified cell, a random access (RA) procedure, a connection establishment (e.g., RRC connection establishment) procedure, and / or an attach (or registration) procedure to a core network as at least one operation for accessing the identified cell.

[0120] For example, the electronic device (101) can identify a cell that satisfies cell selection criteria based on at least a portion of at least one first scan for at least a portion of a first portion of the plurality of frequencies and at least a portion of at least one second scan for at least a portion of a second portion. The electronic device (101) can perform at least one operation for accessing the cell based on the identification of the cell that satisfies the cell selection criteria. For example, referring to FIG. 7B, it is assumed that signals from a first NTN cell (731), a second NTN cell (732), a third NTN cell (733), and a fourth NTN cell (734) can be measured by the electronic device (101). For example, the electronic device (101) can perform a first scan for a first portion of the plurality of frequencies based on a first RF path (e.g., but not limited to, at least a portion of the first RF circuit (541) and the first antenna (543)) and can perform a second scan for a second portion of the plurality of frequencies based on a second RF path (e.g., but not limited to, at least a portion of the second RF circuit (542) and the second antenna (544). When a suitable cell is identified during the first scan and the second scan, the electronic device (101) can, for example, stop performing additional scans and perform at least one action for accessing the identified cell. For example, assume that the electronic device (101) has identified that the first NTN cell (731) satisfies a cell selection condition using the first RF path. The electronic device (101) can stop the additional scan using the first RF path and the additional scan using the second RF path, and perform at least one operation for connection to the first NTN cell (731).For example, if it is confirmed that communication can be performed based on the first NTN cell (731) and the first SIM (111), the electronic device (101) can perform at least one operation for connection with the first NTN (731) based on the first SIM (111) (or the first protocol stack (511)) using the first RF path. For example, if it is confirmed that communication can be performed based on the first NTN cell (731) and the second SIM (112), the electronic device (101) can perform at least one operation for connection with the first NTN (731) based on the second SIM (112) (or the second protocol stack (512)) using the second RF path.

[0121] FIG. 7C illustrates a flowchart for explaining an operation method of an electronic device according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. The embodiment of FIG. 7C will be described with reference to FIG. 7D. FIG. 7D are drawings for explaining a connection according to an embodiment of the present disclosure.

[0122] Referring to FIGS. 7c and 7d , according to one embodiment, the electronic device (101) (e.g., the processor (120)) may, in operation 751, determine a failure for a first communication corresponding to a first protocol stack (511) and a failure for a second communication corresponding to a second protocol stack (512). In operation 753, the electronic device (101) may perform at least one first scan for at least a portion of a first portion among a plurality of frequencies for non-terrestrial communication supported by the electronic device (101) using a first RF path corresponding to the first SIM (111) (or the first protocol stack (511)), based on the confirmation of a failure for the first communication and a failure for the second communication, and may perform at least one second scan for at least a portion of a second portion different from the first portion among a plurality of frequencies for non-terrestrial communication supported by the electronic device (101) using a second RF path corresponding to the second SIM (112) (or the second protocol stack (512)). The electronic device (101), in operation 755, may perform at least one operation for accessing a selected cell among at least one first cell identified according to at least one first scan and at least one second cell identified according to at least one second scan. For example, referring to FIG. 7D , the electronic device (101) may identify a first cell list (761) according to at least one first scan, and may identify a second cell list (762) according to at least one second scan. The cell lists (761, 762) may include, but are not limited to, PLMN, physical cell identity (PCI), reception strength, operating band, and / or frequency information (e.g., Absolute Radio Frequency Channel Number (ARFCN) (e.g., EARFCN (E-UTRA ARFCN)).The electronic device (101) may select one of the cell lists (761, 762). For example, the electronic device (101) may select a cell based on the priority of the Public Land Mobile Network (PLMN). For example, the electronic device (101) may select a cell associated with a PLMN corresponding to an R-PLMN among the identified cells. If a cell associated with a PLMN corresponding to an R-PLMN is not identified, a cell associated with a PLMN of the next highest priority may be selected. For example, the electronic device (101) may select one of the cells based on the reception strength of a signal (e.g., a synchronization signal) from the cell. For example, if multiple cells are identified for the same PLMN, the electronic device (101) may select a cell corresponding to a relatively greater reception strength. Alternatively, the electronic device (101) may be implemented to select a cell with the highest reception strength without considering the PLMN, and there is no limitation on the method of selecting a cell.

[0123] FIG. 8A illustrates a flowchart for explaining an operation method of an electronic device according to one embodiment of the present disclosure. The embodiment of FIG. 8A will be described with reference to FIG. 8B. FIG. 8B is a diagram for explaining a connection according to one embodiment of the present disclosure.

[0124] Referring to FIGS. 8A and 8B , according to one embodiment, the electronic device (101) (e.g., the processor (120)) may, in operation 801, determine a failure for a first communication corresponding to a first protocol stack (511) and a failure for a second communication corresponding to a second protocol stack (512). In operation 803, the electronic device (101) may perform at least one first scan for at least a portion of a first portion among a plurality of frequencies for non-terrestrial communication supported by the electronic device (101) using a first RF path corresponding to the first SIM (111) (or the first protocol stack (511)), based on the confirmation of a failure in the first communication and a failure in the second communication, and may perform at least one second scan for at least a portion of a second portion different from the first portion among the plurality of frequencies for non-terrestrial communication supported by the electronic device (101) using a second RF path corresponding to the second SIM (112) (or the second protocol stack (512)). In operation 805, the electronic device (101) may select one of the at least one first cell confirmed according to the at least one first scan. For example, the electronic device (101) may select one of at least one first cell identified according to at least one first scan and at least one second cell identified according to at least one second scan. Alternatively, for example, the electronic device (101) may fail to detect a cell according to at least one second scan and may select one of at least one first cell identified according to at least one first scan.

[0125] According to one embodiment, the electronic device (101) may, in operation 807, determine whether the selected cell is connectable based on the first SIM (111). If it is determined that the selected cell is connectable based on the first SIM (111) (807-Yes), the electronic device (101) may, in operation 809, perform at least one operation for connection based on the first SIM (111). If it is determined that the selected cell is connectable based on the second SIM (112) (807-No), the electronic device (101) may, in operation 811, perform at least one operation for connection based on the second SIM (112). For example, referring to FIG. 8B, first connection information (771) may be stored in the first SIM (111), and second connection information (772) may be stored in the second SIM (112). For example, let's assume that the first cell (e.g., PCI:1) of the first cell list (761) confirmed using the first RF path is selected. If the PLMN corresponding to the first cell (e.g., PCI:1) is A, the electronic device (101) can perform an operation for connection to the first cell (e.g., PCI:1) based on the first SIM (111), since the first SIM (111) supports PLMN A. For example, the electronic device (101) can perform an operation for connection to the first cell (e.g., PCI:1) based on the first SIM (111) using the first RF path. If the PLMN corresponding to the first cell (e.g., PCI:1) is C, the electronic device (101) can perform an operation for connection to the first cell (e.g., PCI:1) based on the second SIM (112), since the first SIM (111) does not support PLMN A and the second SIM (112) supports PLMN B.For example, the electronic device (101) may perform an operation for connection to a first cell (e.g., PCI:1) based on a second SIM (112) using a second RF path.

[0126] Meanwhile, similarly to the above, if at least one of the second cells identified according to at least one second scan is selected, the electronic device (101) can check whether the selected cell is accessible based on the second SIM (112). If the selected cell is accessible based on the second SIM (112), the electronic device (101) can perform at least one operation for access to the selected cell based on the second SIM (112). If the selected cell is inaccessible based on the second SIM (112) and accessible based on the first SIM (111), the electronic device (101) can perform at least one operation for access to the selected cell based on the first SIM (111).

[0127] FIG. 9 illustrates a flowchart for explaining a method of operating an electronic device according to one embodiment of the present disclosure.

[0128] Referring to FIG. 9, according to one embodiment, the electronic device (101) (e.g., processor (120)) may, in operation 901, determine a failure for a first communication corresponding to a first protocol stack (511) and a failure for a second communication corresponding to a second protocol stack (512). In operation 903, the electronic device (101) may perform at least one first scan for at least a portion of a first portion among a plurality of frequencies for non-terrestrial communication supported by the electronic device (101) using a first RF path corresponding to the first SIM (111) (or the first protocol stack (511)), based on the confirmation of a failure for the first communication and a failure for the second communication, and may perform at least one second scan for at least a portion of a second portion different from the first portion among a plurality of frequencies for non-terrestrial communication supported by the electronic device (101) using a second RF path corresponding to the second SIM (112) (or the second protocol stack (512)). The electronic device (101), in operation 905, may merge at least one first cell list identified according to at least one first scan and at least one second cell list identified according to at least one second scan. If the verification of the cell list for one SIM is completed, the generation of the merged list may be postponed until the verification of the cell list for the corresponding SIM is completed, but there is no limitation. The electronic device (101), in operation 907, may select one cell from the merged list. The electronic device (101), in operation 909, may perform at least one operation for connection to the selected cell. For example, at least some of the GMC layers (521, 531) of the protocol stacks (511, 512) may perform the merging of cell lists and / or the selection of cells from the merged list, but there is no limitation on the entity performing the merging.

[0129] For example, the GMC layer (521) of the first protocol stack (511) can share the first cell list (761) confirmed using the first RF path with the GMC layer (531) of the second protocol stack (512). The GMC layer (531) of the second protocol stack (512) can share the second cell list (762) confirmed using the second RF path with the GMC layer (521) of the first protocol stack (511). In this case, each of the GMC layers (521, 531) can generate a merged list. At least some of the GMC layers (521, 531) can select one cell from the merged list and perform a procedure for cell connection (or instruct a lower layer). For example, each of the GMC layers (521, 531) can select cells from the selected list and perform a procedure for connection. Alternatively, any one of the GMC layers (521, 531) may be configured to perform operations for connecting to a cell selected from the merge list, while the remaining layers may not perform operations for connecting, and there is no limitation on the implementation. For example, any one of the GMC layers (521, 531) may be configured as a layer for generating a merge list and selecting a cell (which may be conveniently named a master layer). In this case, the master layer may receive a list from another layer to generate a merge list, and may select one cell from the merge list. Meanwhile, the GMC layers (521, 531) are only examples of entities that perform generation of a merge list and cell selection, and there is no limitation on the entities that perform the generation of a merge list and cell selection. For example, generation of a merge list and cell selection may be performed by another layer within the protocol stacks (511, 512), or generation of a merge list and cell selection may be performed by another entity not included in the protocol stacks (511, 512).

[0130] FIG. 10 illustrates a flowchart for explaining an operation method of an electronic device according to one embodiment of the present disclosure.

[0131] Referring to FIG. 10, according to one embodiment, the electronic device (101) (e.g., the processor (120)) may, in operation 1011, identify a simultaneous scan event based on the first protocol stack (511). Here, the simultaneous scan event may include, but is not limited to, communication failure for communications based on both SIMs (111, 112), cell detection failure according to a terrestrial network scan, and / or cell detection failure according to a scan based on stored information of a non-terrestrial network. The electronic device (101), based on the first protocol stack (511), may perform at least one first scan for at least a portion of a first portion of a plurality of frequencies for non-terrestrial network communications, in operation 1013. The electronic device (101), based on the second protocol stack (512), may identify a simultaneous scan event, in operation 1031. The electronic device (101) may, in operation 1033, perform at least one second scan for at least a portion of a second portion of the plurality of frequencies for non-terrestrial network communication.

[0132] According to one embodiment, the electronic device (101) may, in operation 1015, determine whether an available cell (or a suitable cell) is detected according to at least one first scan. If an available cell (or a suitable cell) is detected (1015-Yes), the electronic device (101) may, in operation 1021, generate an available cell list or add information about the corresponding cell to a previously generated cell list. If an available cell is not detected (1015-No), the electronic device (101) may, in operation 1017, determine whether an available cell is detected by another protocol stack (e.g., the second protocol stack (512)). For example, the protocol stacks (511, 512) may be implemented so that available cells can be shared with each other, and thus it may be possible to check whether an available cell is detected based on the second protocol stack (512) based on the first protocol stack (511), but this is an example and is not limited thereto. If an available cell is detected by another protocol stack (e.g., the second protocol stack (512)) (1017-Yes), the electronic device (101) may, in operation 1021, generate an available cell list or add information about the cell to the previously generated cell list. If an available cell is not detected by another protocol stack (1017-No), the electronic device (101) may, in operation 1019, wait for a scan waiting period. When the scan waiting period has elapsed, the electronic device (101) may perform a split scan for the non-terrestrial network again or resume scanning for the terrestrial network. The electronic device (101) may, in operation 1035, determine whether an available cell (or a suitable cell) is detected according to at least one second scan. If an available cell (or a suitable cell) is detected (1035-Yes), the electronic device (101) may, in operation 1021, generate an available cell list or add information about the corresponding cell to a previously generated cell list. If an available cell is not detected (1035-No), the electronic device (101) may, in operation 1037, determine whether an available cell is detected by another protocol stack (e.g., the second protocol stack (512)). For example, whether an available cell is detected based on the first protocol stack (511) may be determined based on the second protocol stack (512), but this is exemplary and not limiting. If an available cell is detected by another protocol stack (e.g., the second protocol stack (512)) (1037-Yes), the electronic device (101) may, in operation 1021, generate an available cell list or add information about the corresponding cell to the previously generated cell list. If an available cell is not detected by another protocol stack (1037-No), the electronic device (101) may, in operation 1039, wait for a scan waiting period. When the scan waiting period has elapsed, the electronic device (101) may perform a split scan for the non-terrestrial network again or resume scanning for the terrestrial network. The electronic device (101) may, in operation 1023, select one of the available cell lists. The electronic device (101) may, in operation 1025, perform at least one operation for accessing the selected cell.According to one embodiment, the electronic device (101) may, after accessing a selected cell, update that cell with information about the stored cell.
