Abstract
Description
Information processing device and program
[0001] The present invention relates to an information processing device and a program.
[0002] There are various information processing devices that display characters. For example, a technology for a learning support system that supports learners in their studies is known that uses entertainment methods such as displaying characters to motivate learners and improve learning efficiency (see Patent Document 1).
[0003] International Publication No. 2002 / 019295
[0004] However, if the same characters are always displayed, users may get bored of them relatively quickly. However, if the characters displayed are changed randomly, the display will lack consistency and storyline, which may actually lead to a loss of interest to users.
[0005] The problem to be solved by the present invention is to provide a new character display technique that can continuously attract the interest of users.
[0006] One aspect of the present invention is an information processing device that includes a predetermined screen display control unit that controls the display of a first-class character on a predetermined screen based on a predetermined screen setting, an execution unit that executes a predetermined process that can acquire a second-class character, and a registration unit that registers the second-class character acquired by executing the predetermined process, wherein the predetermined screen display control unit performs appearance display control to select an appearance character from registered characters registered in the registration unit and cause the character to appear on the predetermined screen.
[0007] The predetermined screen display control unit may start executing the appearance display control in response to a predetermined appearance request operation by the user.
[0008] The appearance request operation may be an operation on the appearance position of the character on the predetermined screen.
[0009] The screen setting may be a setting for displaying a screen showing a room having a door, and the appearance request operation may be an operation on a display position of the door.
[0010] In addition, the screen settings may include multiple types of settings that share a common display position of the door, and the specified screen display control unit may control the display of a specified screen based on one of the multiple types of screen settings.
[0011] In addition, the appearance display control may include performing a presentation display related to one or both of the first type character and the appearing character based on the combination of the first type character and the appearing character displayed on the specified screen, or the type of the appearing character.
[0012] In addition, the first class character may be composed of multiple types, and the specified screen display control unit may select the first class character to be displayed on the specified screen from the multiple types of first class characters based on a user's selection operation.
[0013] In addition, the appearance display control may include changing the presentation display relating to one or both of the first type character and the appearing character displayed on the specified screen according to the type of the first type character.
[0014] In addition, the first class characters may be composed of multiple types, the second class characters may include characters of the same type as the first class characters but with different appearances, the specified screen display control unit may select the first class character to be displayed on the specified screen from the multiple types of first class characters based on a user's selection operation, and the appearance display control may select the appearing character from among the registered characters of a type different from the first class character displayed on the specified screen.
[0015] In addition, each of the registered characters may be set with selection permission / denial information indicating whether or not the character can be selected as a featured character, and the featured display control may select the featured character from among the registered characters whose selection permission / denial information is set to information indicating that the character can be selected.
[0016] In addition, the first class characters may be composed of multiple types, and the specified screen display control unit may select the first class character to be displayed on the specified screen from the multiple types of first class characters based on a user's selection operation, and each registered character may be set with selection permission / denial information indicating whether or not the first class character of that type may be selected as the featured character when that type of first class character is displayed on the specified screen, depending on the type of first class character, and the featured display control may select the featured character based on the type of first class character displayed on the specified screen and the selection permission / denial information.
[0017] Furthermore, a program may be constructed in which a computer functions as a predetermined screen display control unit that controls the display of a first-class character on a predetermined screen based on predetermined screen settings, an execution unit that executes predetermined processing that can acquire a second-class character, and a registration unit that registers the second-class character acquired by executing the predetermined processing, and the predetermined screen display control unit performs appearance display control to select an appearance character from registered characters registered in the registration unit and cause the character to appear on the predetermined screen.
[0018] According to the present invention, a character can be selected from registered characters acquired and registered by executing a predetermined process, and can be made to appear on a predetermined screen on which the first-class characters are displayed. This makes it possible to continuously attract the user's attention when displaying the character.

[0020] Preferred embodiments of the present invention will be described below with reference to the drawings. A learning device that supports a user's learning will be exemplified as an information processing device. Note that the present invention is not limited to the embodiments described below, and the forms to which the present invention can be applied are not limited to the following embodiments. Furthermore, the same parts are designated by the same reference numerals in the drawings.
[0021] 1 is a diagram showing an example of the appearance of a study device 10 according to this embodiment. The study device 10 according to this embodiment is an information processing device, for example, in the form of a laptop computer, and includes a main device 1 and a mouse 3. The main device 1 includes a power button 11, a keyboard 13, and a display 15. In addition, a camera, microphone, speaker, etc. (not shown) are provided in appropriate locations.
[0022] The main device 1 also incorporates a control board 20 equipped with electronic components such as a microprocessor, such as a CPU (Central Processing Unit) 201, an IC memory 203, and a communication device. The IC memory 203 of the control board 20 stores a learning assistance program for implementing processing related to learning assistance, as well as various setting data required to execute the learning assistance program. The CPU 201 then executes the learning assistance program to perform arithmetic processing, and controls each part of the learning device 10 in response to operational inputs via the keyboard 13 and mouse 3, thereby assisting the user in their learning.
[0023] The form of the study device is not limited to a notebook computer, but may be, for example, a smartphone, a tablet computer, a portable game device, or the like.
[0024] 2 is a diagram showing an example of a home screen W1 displayed on the study device 10. As shown in FIG. 2, the home screen presents three menus M11, M12, and M13, namely, "Study," "Encyclopedia," and "Room," using their selection buttons.
[0025] 1. About the Learning Menu When the learning menu M11 is selected by clicking with the mouse 3, a list of learning items is displayed. Examples of learning items include various subjects such as English, arithmetic, and Japanese, as well as programming and typing. The learning content of each learning item is systematized, for example, into multiple learning steps, and a learning process is defined for each learning step. When a learning item is selected from the learning menu M11, the learning device 10 executes the learning process associated with each learning step as needed. Then, the learning device 10 executes a predetermined reward granting process according to the execution status of the learning process.
[0026] For example, when a user completes learning for one learning step (specifically, when the learning process related to that learning step is executed), the learning device 10 executes a reward granting process and grants the user one star-shaped medal (hereinafter referred to as a "first type medal") as a first reward and one coin-shaped medal (hereinafter referred to as a "second type medal") as a second reward as a reward.
[0027] The first and second type medals are not limited to being awarded when the learning process is executed. For example, in a configuration in which a mini-game can be played from a separately prepared game menu (not shown), one first type medal and one second type medal may be awarded when the user clears the mini-game.
[0028] The content of the reward awarded in one reward awarding process may be set as appropriate. For example, either a first-type medal or a second-type medal may be awarded, and the number of medals awarded may vary depending on, for example, the learning step. The conditions for awarding the first-type medal and the second-type medal (the conditions for executing the reward awarding process) may be set as appropriate. For example, whether or not to award the first-type medal and the second-type medal, and the evaluation criteria for awarding the medals may be set for each learning item. Specifically, the system is not limited to a configuration in which the first-type medal and the second-type medal are awarded for all learning items, and some learning items may not award the first-type medal and the second-type medal even as the learning progresses. Evaluation criteria, such as the number of correct answers to quizzes, the passing score for tests, and the success or failure of missions, may be set for each learning item. The reward awarding process may be executed to award the first-type medal and the second-type medal when the evaluation criteria are met.
[0029] The learning device 10 then performs a first process control that controls the execution of a first process that becomes executable when the owned amount of first-type medals awarded in the above manner satisfies a first activation condition, and a second process control that controls the execution of a second process that becomes executable when the owned amount of second-type medals satisfies a second activation condition. The first activation condition is a quantity condition that requires the execution of a greater number of reward-granting processes than the second activation condition.
[0030] In this embodiment, for example, the first activation condition is preset to three in number, and the second activation condition is preset to one in number, and so on. That is, in this embodiment, the first process is executable when the user owns three first-type medals (i.e., when the user accumulates three first-type medals by repeating learning for each learning step). The second process is executable when the user owns one second-type medal (i.e., when the user finishes learning one learning step).
[0031] 1-1. Regarding First-Type Medals The learning device 10 performs a first process control that automatically executes a first process when the number of first-type medals owned reaches three. Figure 3 is a diagram illustrating the flow of processing by the learning device 10 related to the awarding of first-type medals and the first process control associated with the user's learning for each learning step. As described above, after executing the learning process related to one learning step, the learning device 10 executes a reward awarding process to award one first-type medal and one second-type medal.
[0032] The learning device 10 then displays a display indicating the number of first-type medals owned each time the reward granting process is executed. When the number of first-type medals owned is one, the display may be, for example, as shown in FIG. 3A. Thereafter, when the learning device 10 next executes the learning process and executes the reward granting process, it displays a display indicating that the number of first-type medals owned is two (FIG. 3B). Furthermore, when the learning device 10 next executes the learning process and executes the reward granting process, it displays a display indicating that the number of first-type medals owned is three (FIG. 3C). For example, as shown in FIG. 3C, a display indicating that three first-type medals have been accumulated and the first process will be automatically executed is displayed, thereby producing a visual output in response to the satisfaction of the first activation condition. The visual output is not limited to a visual output, but may be a configuration in which a predetermined visual sound is output, or a configuration in which a visual output and a visual sound are combined.
[0033] Then, when three first-type medals have been accumulated, the learning device 10 executes a first process. In the first process, the learning device 10 grants the user given game elements in exchange for spending the three accumulated first-type medals. The game elements granted in the first process include a second-type character used in the training game in the room menu M13. The user can acquire a second-type character by repeatedly learning and accumulating first-type medals.
[0034] In this embodiment, multiple types (e.g., 100 types) of game elements, each including a second-class character and an item, are prepared in advance as first-class grant targets. Then, in the first process, the learning device 10 randomly selects one of the game elements from the first-class grant targets and grants it to the user. More specifically, in the first process, a game element different from a game element previously granted is granted. That is, one of the game elements is selected and granted from among the first-class grant targets, excluding game elements that have already been granted (game elements that have already been registered in a later process). Therefore, in the first process, game elements of the same type are not granted twice. For example, (d) in FIG. 3 illustrates an example in which a second-class character Cb1 is granted. The second-class character will be described later.
[0035] Thereafter, the study device 10 registers the game elements added by the first process by type. In this embodiment, the study device 10 registers the added game elements in the illustrated book. That is, if the added game element is a second-class character, the study device 10 registers the second-class character as a registered character, and if the added game element is an item other than a second-class character, the study device 10 registers the item as a registered item in the illustrated book. The illustrated book can be viewed from the illustrated book screen W2 of the illustrated book menu M12.
[0036] Each page of the encyclopedia has display columns arranged in a grid, for example, and one column is assigned to each type of game element that can be assigned a first type. Therefore, when the encyclopedia menu M12 is selected, if there is a newly assigned game element, that game element will be newly displayed in the display column of the encyclopedia to which that game element is assigned ((e) of FIG. 3). The display column for a game element that has not yet been assigned (unregistered) by the first process will be left blank.
[0037] Then, when the number of granted game elements reaches the upper limit condition, the learning device 10 performs a first process control to stop further execution of the first process. In this embodiment, the upper limit condition is reached when all types of first-type grant target game elements have been granted to the user (when all types of game elements have been registered and the display column of the encyclopedia is fully filled), and the learning device 10 performs the stop control. Furthermore, when the number of granted game elements reaches the upper limit condition, the learning device 10 performs a visual output indicating this, as illustrated in FIG. 4. Note that the visual output here is not limited to a visual output. For example, a configuration may be used in which a predetermined visual effect is output, or a configuration may be used in which a visual effect and a visual effect are combined.
[0038] 1-2. Regarding the second type medals: In this embodiment, the second process can be executed with only one second type medal. Therefore, when the user owns a second type medal, the learning device 10 performs control to execute the second process based on the user's execution instruction operation, as second process control.
[0039] In this embodiment, items that can be used in the training game in the room menu M13 are prepared in advance as second-type grant targets. Then, in the second process, the learning device 10 grants the second-type grant target item in exchange for the consumption of one second-type medal. For example, when a user performs an execution instruction operation (in this embodiment, when the user selects the lottery machine 51 (see FIG. 6, etc.) in the room on the room screen from the room menu M13 and performs an operation to instruct the execution of a lottery), a lottery process is performed in which one of the second-type grant targets is selected based on a predetermined lottery probability, and the item is granted to the user. The second-type grant target item will be described later.
[0040] According to this process, a user can acquire items that can be used in the training game by using Type 1 medals, which can be used immediately after completing one learning step. However, since Type 1 medals can only be used if there are three of them, a user must accumulate Type 1 medals by repeating learning for each learning step. When a user accumulates three Type 1 medals, they can acquire game elements, including Type 2 characters.
[0041] In this embodiment, when the learning process is completed, one first-type medal is awarded as the first reward and one second-type medal is awarded as the second reward, but the quantities of the first reward and the second reward to be awarded may be set as appropriate. In this case, it is preferable to set the number of times the reward-awarding process is executed to obtain the number of first rewards that satisfies the first activation condition to be greater than the number of times the reward-awarding process is executed to obtain the number of second rewards that satisfies the second activation condition.
[0042] 2. About the encyclopedia menu Fig. 5 is a diagram showing an example of the encyclopedia screen W2. When the encyclopedia menu M12 in Fig. 2 is selected, the encyclopedia screen W2 shown in Fig. 5 is displayed. On the encyclopedia screen W2, the game elements (registered characters and registered items) that have been assigned and registered by the first process as described above are displayed in the display column C2 for each type. In the encyclopedia menu M12, the user can view the registered game elements in an encyclopedia format.
[0043] 3. About the Room Menu Figure 6 is a diagram showing an example of a room screen that is displayed when the room menu M13 in Figure 2 is selected. As shown in Figure 6, the room screen displays the room of a resident character (first-class character) Ca1. On the room screen, the user can play a training game in which the resident character (first-class character) Ca1 is trained. The user enjoys the game by providing meals for the resident character (first-class character) Ca1, rearranging the room, and so on.
[0044] On the room screen, two menus M31 and M33, "Resident Replacement" and "Redecoration," are presented as menus for the training game using selection buttons. When the room menu M13 in Fig. 2 is selected, the learning device 10 displays the room screen in accordance with the screen settings based on the selection of the redecoration item in the redecoration menu M33, and also controls the display of a resident character on the room screen in accordance with the selection of the first-class character in the resident replacement menu M31.
[0045] The room displayed on the room screen has a door 55, a lottery machine 51, and a refrigerator 53. The door 55, the lottery machine 51, and the refrigerator 53 can be selected by clicking with the mouse 3 or otherwise operating the respective display positions.
[0046] 3-1. About the Resident Replacement Menu Selecting the Resident Replacement Menu M31 allows you to set or change the resident character on the room screen. In this embodiment, multiple types of first-class characters (three types of first-class characters Ca1, Ca2, and Ca3 in the example of FIG. 6) are prepared in advance, and the Resident Replacement Menu M31 accepts a selection operation to select one of the first-class characters. The learning device 10 then sets or changes the resident character to be displayed in the room on the room screen in accordance with the accepted selection operation.
[0047] 3-2. About the Redecoration Menu Selecting the redecoration menu M33 allows the user to select one of the redecoration items owned. Selecting this redecoration item allows the user to configure screen settings for the room display on the room screen. In this embodiment, multiple redecoration items are prepared in advance to display rooms with different interiors, such as furniture layouts and interior decorations. For example, redecoration items are prepared as images of rooms with different interiors, and the image of the room with the redecoration item selected in the redecoration menu M33 is displayed as the background of the room screen. That is, the redecoration menu M33 accepts a selection operation to select one of the redecoration items owned by the user (three redecoration items I31, I32, and I33 in the example of FIG. 6 ). The study device 10 then configures and changes the interior of the room displayed on the room screen by configuring the screen in accordance with the accepted selection operation.
[0048] As described above, the redecorating items are used to display rooms with different interiors, but the display positions of the doors, lottery machines, and refrigerators are all the same. For example, in the example of FIG. 6 , a door is displayed in the same position on the left side of any room with any redecorating item. This ensures that the door is always displayed in the same position, even if a different redecorating item is selected from the redecorating menu M33 to change the interior of the room on the room screen. As will be described later, the display position of the door corresponds to the appearance position of the featured character on the room screen, and selecting a door allows the featured character to appear on the room screen. Regardless of the interior of the room on the room screen (or regardless of which redecorating item is selected in the redecorating menu), the user can easily select a door to make the featured character appear during the training game.
[0049] 3-3. About the Lottery Machine By selecting the lottery machine 51 on the room screen, a user can use their owned second-type medals to obtain second-type items that can be used in the training game. The room screen displays the amount 57 of second-type medals owned by the user. The learning device 10 accepts the operation of selecting the lottery machine 51 on the room screen as an execution instruction operation by the user. Then, when the execution instruction operation is performed, the learning device 10 performs control to execute a second process as second process control. Figure 7 is a diagram for explaining the processing flow of the learning device 10 related to the second process control.
[0050] In this embodiment, when lottery machine 51 is selected (FIG. 7(a)), learning device 10 executes a second process. That is, learning device 10 first executes a lottery process to select an item to be awarded from among the second-type items eligible for award in exchange for the consumption of one second-type medal. Learning device 10 then awards the item selected in the lottery to the user.
[0051] Here, items eligible for the second type of grant include the above-mentioned redecorating items ((b) of Figure 7) and food items ((c) of Figure 7). In this embodiment, redecorating items are limit items with a limit on the number that a user can own. For example, there are 10 types of redecorating items, and a user can own one of each type. On the other hand, multiple types of food items are also prepared. Food items are open-ended items with no limit on the number that a user can own, and a user can own any number of them.
[0052] Therefore, in the lottery process, the learning device 10 excludes from the second-type grant targets those redecorating items that have already been granted to the user. If all types of redecorating items have been granted to the user (if the user has one of each type of redecorating item), the learning device 10 will select only food items, which are frameless items, and grant the selected item to the user.
[0053] 3-4. About the Refrigerator When the refrigerator 53 is selected on the room screen of FIG. 6, the user can feed the resident character (first-class character) Ca1 by giving the resident character a food item they own. For example, when the refrigerator 53 is selected, the learning device 10 displays the food items owned by the user along with the number of items owned, and presents this to the user. When a food item is selected, the learning device 10 controls the display to produce a visual of the resident character (first-class character) Ca1 eating the food.
[0054] 3-5. Doors When door 55 is selected on the room screen, study device 10 selects a character from the characters registered in the picture book and performs appearance display control to make the character appear on the room screen. In this embodiment, the display position of door 55 is set as the appearance position of the character on the room screen. Study device 10 accepts the user's selection of door 55 as an appearance request operation. Then, study device 10 begins executing appearance display control in response to the appearance request operation.
[0055] Here, the registered character is a second-class character prepared as a game element eligible for a first-class award, and is a second-class character that has already been awarded by the first process. That is, the first process, as described above, is a process of awarding one of the first-class award game elements to a user who has accumulated three first-class medals through repeated learning. When a second-class character is selected and awarded from the first-class award game elements by the first process, the second-class character is registered in the illustrated book as a registered character. Therefore, when door 55 is selected on the room screen, one of the registered characters acquired by accumulating first-class medals will appear on the room screen as a featured character.
[0056] FIG. 8 is a diagram showing examples of second-class characters. As shown in FIG. 8, the second-class characters include characters having a defined relationship with the first-class characters (three types of first-class characters Ca1, Ca2, and Ca3 in this embodiment) that can be selected as resident characters on the room screen. Specifically, the second-class characters include characters whose relationship with the first-class characters is "friend" (e.g., character Cb1 shown in FIG. 8(a)) and characters whose relationship with the first-class characters is "enemy" (e.g., character Cb2 shown in FIG. 8(b)). To identify the characters, the relationship setting with the first-class characters is preset as selection permission / denial information for the corresponding second-class characters. The "friend" setting indicates that the character is selectable, and the "enemy" setting indicates that the character is not selectable.
[0057] Among the second-class characters for which selection permission information is set, those for which the selection permission information is set to "friend" have a preset friendship level with each of the three first-class characters Ca1, Ca2, and Ca3. In this embodiment, the friendship level is set in three stages, for example, "good," "average," and "bad." Of course, two stages or three or more stages may also be used. For example, as shown in FIG. 8A, character Cb1 is set to have a good relationship with first-class character Ca1 and an average relationship with first-class character Ca3. Furthermore, character Cb1 is set to have a bad relationship with first-class character Ca2.
[0058] The second-class characters include characters of the same type as the first-class characters, but with different appearances due to different costumes, etc. One or more types of characters with different appearances are prepared as second-class characters for each of the three first-class characters Ca1, Ca2, and Ca3. For example, (c) of Figure 8 shows characters Cb3 and Cb4 that are different in appearance from the first-class character Ca1.
[0059] For characters with different appearances, friendship levels with each of the other types of first-class characters are preset. For example, in the case of characters Cb3 and Cb4 with different appearances of a first-class character Ca1 shown in Fig. 8(c), friendship levels with each of first-class characters Ca2 and Ca3 are set to one of three levels: "good," "average," and "bad."
[0060] As a procedure for controlling appearance display, the learning device 10 first selects from among the registered characters a character to be displayed on the current room screen. In this embodiment, the learning device 10 extracts, as candidate characters, "friend" characters, which indicate selectability, from among the registered characters for which selection permission information has been set. Furthermore, if the registered characters include a character with a different appearance from a first-class character (e.g., first-class character Ca2, Ca3) of a different type from the first-class character currently displayed as a resident character on the room screen (first-class character Ca1 in FIG. 6 ), the learning device 10 adds the character to the candidate characters. Characters of the same type as the currently displayed first-class character are not extracted. The learning device 10 then randomly selects one of the extracted candidate characters as the candidate character.
[0061] Once a character is selected, learning device 10 performs a predetermined display effect to make the character appear on the room screen. For example, learning device 10 performs a display effect related to both the resident character and the character based on the combination of the resident character and the character.
[0062] To this end, in this embodiment, for each combination of a second-class character with a first-class character Ca1, Ca2, or Ca3, data for effect display is prepared in advance for when the second-class character associated with that combination appears as a featured character on the room screen when the resident character on the room screen is the first-class character associated with that combination. For each combination, the effect display includes a scene in which the second-class character associated with that combination enters the room through a door as a featured character, and a subsequent scene in which one of the first-class character and the second-class character associated with that combination calls out to the other or greets each other. Furthermore, the effect content expresses the degree of friendship between the combinations. For example, FIGS. 9 and 10 show examples of effect display when a friendly featured character (second-class character) Cb1 appears in the room of a resident character (first-class character) Ca1. Fig. 9 shows an example of a scene in which a character (second-class character) Cb1 calls out to a resident character (first-class character) Ca1 and greets them, and Fig. 10 shows an example of a scene in which the two characters are on good terms. Fig. 11 shows another example of a presentation display when a character (second-class character) Cb5 appears, showing a scene in which the resident character (first-class character) Ca1 and the character (second-class character) Cb5 are on bad terms.
[0063] According to this process, the user can have the registered characters (i.e., the second-class characters acquired by collecting first-class medals) that were added to the illustrated book by the first process appear on the room screen of the training game. For example, when a door is selected during the training game on the room screen, one of the registered characters appears on the room screen as a featured character. At this time, the user can enjoy a visual display that corresponds to the combination of the first-class character displayed as a resident character on the room screen and the featured character. Therefore, the user can collect registered characters by progressing through each learning step, and enjoy having the collected registered characters appear on the room screen. This makes it possible to continuously attract the user's interest in the training game.
[0064] Note that, here, an example has been described in which information on the relationship with a first-class character (whether the character is a friend character or an enemy character) is used as the selection permission information. That is, the example has been described in which the "friend" setting indicates selectable and the "enemy" setting indicates unselectable, and only selectable friend characters appear on the room screen as featured characters. In contrast, the selection permission information setting for which second-class characters are selectable (or unselectable) can be set separately from the relationship with the first-class characters. That is, it is possible to appropriately include a setting for enemy characters to be "selectable" and a setting for friend characters to be "unselectable." In that case, even enemy characters can appear on the room screen as featured characters.
[0065] In this case, the selection permission information may be set individually for each of the three types of first-class characters Ca1, Ca2, and Ca3 for each of the second-class characters. In this case, the selection permission information for the second-class characters may be selectable or unselectable depending on which type of first-class character is a resident character on the room screen. In other words, even if a registered character is registered in the illustrated book, depending on the resident character, it may or may not be extracted as a candidate character in the appearance display control. This makes it possible to make the appearance scenes of the characters in the training game more interesting and less boring.
[0066] In addition, although the example has been shown in which the second-class characters include characters with different appearances from the first-class characters Ca1, Ca2, and Ca3 (for example, characters Cb3 and Cb4 with different appearances shown for the first-class character Ca1 in (c) of FIG. 8), the second-class characters may include not only characters with different appearances but also the first-class characters Ca1, Ca2, and Ca3 themselves. In other words, each of the first-class characters Ca1, Ca2, and Ca3 may be assigned and registered as a second-class character.
[0067] Furthermore, here, based on the combination of resident characters and featured characters, visual effects related to both the resident characters and featured characters are displayed. Alternatively, visual effects related to featured characters may be displayed based on the type of featured character. In this case, for each type of second-class character, data for visual effects used when the second-class character appears on the room screen as a featured character is prepared in advance. The visual effects displayed here are visual effects related to the featured character, with only the second-class characters (featured characters) of that type appearing.
[0068] 12 is a block diagram showing an example of the functional configuration of learning device 10. As shown in Fig. 12, learning device 10 includes operation input unit 111, display unit 113, sound output unit 115, processing unit 140, and storage unit 170.
[0069] The operation input unit 111 is used by the user to input various operations, and can be realized by a keyboard, mouse, touch panel, etc. In Fig. 1, this corresponds to the keyboard 13 and mouse 3. The display unit 113 is realized by a display device such as an LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) or a touch panel, and performs various displays in response to display signals from the processing unit 140. In Fig. 1, this corresponds to the display 15. The sound output unit 115 is realized by a speaker, etc., and emits sound signals input from the processing unit.
[0070] The processing unit 140 can be realized by electronic components such as a processor, which is an arithmetic circuit such as a CPU, ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit), or FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array), or an IC memory, and controls the input and output of data between each part of the device. It performs various arithmetic processes based on predetermined programs, data, operation input signals from the operation input unit 111, and so on, and controls the operation of the learning device 10. In Figure 1, this corresponds to the control board 20 and its CPU 201.
[0071] In this embodiment, the processing unit 140 includes a learning processing execution unit 141, a reward granting processing execution unit 143, a first reward possession amount display control unit 145, a first processing control unit 147, an activatable performance control unit 149, an upper limit achievement performance control unit 151, a second processing control unit 153, a registration unit 155, an encyclopedia display control unit 157, and a content execution unit 160.
[0072] The learning process execution unit 141 executes the learning process for each learning step of each learning item selectable from the learning menu.
[0073] The reward granting process execution unit 143 is a functional unit that executes the reward granting process. In this embodiment, the reward granting process execution unit 143 grants the user one first type medal as a first reward and one second type medal as a second reward each time the learning process execution unit 141 executes the learning process.
[0074] The first reward possession quantity display control unit 145 displays the quantity of first type medals possessed each time the learning process execution unit 141 executes the learning process (see, for example, (a), (b), and (c) in Figure 3).
[0075] The first process control unit 147 serves as an execution unit and controls the execution of a first process that becomes executable when the number of owned first-type medals satisfies a first activation condition. In this embodiment, when the number of owned first-type medals reaches three, the first process control unit 147 automatically executes the first process, determining that the first activation condition has been satisfied, and awards to the user one of the pre-prepared first-type game elements that are eligible for award and that have not already been awarded.
[0076] Furthermore, when the number of game elements that have already been awarded reaches an upper limit condition as a result of executing the first process, the first process control unit 147 stops further execution of the first process. In this embodiment, when all types of game elements prepared as first-type award targets have been awarded to the user as a result of executing the first process, the first process control unit 147 will no longer execute the first process even if the owned number of first-type medals reaches three.
[0077] The activatable effect control unit 149 outputs an effect in response to the satisfaction of the first activatable condition (see, for example, (c) of FIG. 3).
[0078] When the number of granted game elements reaches the upper limit condition as a result of execution of the first process, the upper limit achievement effect control unit 151 outputs an effect to that effect. In this embodiment, when all types of game elements eligible for first-type award have been granted to the user as a result of the first process, the upper limit achievement effect control unit 151 outputs an effect to that effect (for example, see FIG. 4 ).
[0079] The second process control unit 153 controls the execution of a second process that becomes executable when the owned amount of second-type medals satisfies a second activation condition. In this embodiment, when one or more second-type medals are owned, the second process control unit 153 executes a second process that includes a lottery process in response to an execution instruction operation from the user, and awards one of the second-type items that are prepared in advance by lottery. In this embodiment, the execution instruction operation is received on a room screen that is displayed while the content execution unit 160 is running the training game.
[0080] The registration unit 155 registers the game element added by the first process. Specifically, if the added game element is a second-class character, the registration unit 155 registers it in the illustrated book as a registered character. Furthermore, if the added game element is an item, the registration unit 155 registers it in the illustrated book as a registered item.
[0081] When the picture book menu is selected, the picture book display control unit 157 displays the picture book screen and performs control to display the registered game elements in the corresponding display fields.
[0082] The content execution unit 160 executes a predetermined content that allows the use of the item granted in the second process. In this embodiment, when the room menu is selected, the content execution unit 160 executes a game for raising a first-class character. This content execution unit 160 includes a room screen display control unit 161 and an appearance display control unit 163.
[0083] When the room menu is selected, the room screen display control unit 161 controls the display of the resident character's room based on the settings of the resident character and the redecorating materials.
[0084] The appearance display control unit 163 selects an appearance character from the characters registered by the registration unit 155 and performs appearance display control to make the character appear on the room screen.
[0085] The storage unit 170 stores in advance or temporarily stores each processing step programs for operating the learning device 10 and implementing the various functions of the learning device 10, as well as data used during the execution of these programs. For example, this can be implemented by an IC memory such as RAM or ROM, a hard disk, etc. In Figure 1, this corresponds to IC memory 203.
[0086] In addition, the memory unit 130 stores a learning assistance program 171, learning data 173 used to execute the learning process, first-class character data 175, second-class character data 177, first-class game element data 179 to be awarded, second-class item data 183 to be awarded, first-class medal possession amount 185, second-class medal possession amount 187, resident character settings 189, screen settings 191, picture book data 193, and owned item list 195.
[0087] In addition, display data, audio data, etc. for various effect outputs and effect displays are also stored. In this embodiment, this corresponds to display data and audio data for a display showing the amount of owned first type medals (for example, see (a), (b), and (c) of FIG. 3), an effect output in response to satisfaction of a first activation condition (for example, see (c) of FIG. 3), an effect output when the granted game elements reach an upper limit condition (for example, see FIG. 4), an effect display of a resident character eating during the training game, an effect display when a character appears on the room screen during the training game (for example, see FIGS. 9 to 11), etc.
[0088] The learning assistance program 171 is a program for causing the processing unit 140 to function as a learning processing execution unit 141, a reward granting processing execution unit 143, a first reward possession amount display control unit 145, a first processing control unit 147, an activatable performance control unit 149, an upper limit achievement performance control unit 151, a second processing control unit 153, a registration unit 155, an encyclopedia display control unit 157, and a content execution unit 160.
[0089] The first-class character data 175 is prepared for each first-class character. In this embodiment, display data and the like for displaying the first-class character as a resident character on the room screen are stored for each of the three types of first-class characters Ca1, Ca2, and Ca3 shown in FIG. 6 and the like.
[0090] The second-class character data 177 is prepared for each second-class character, and stores display data for making the character appear on the room screen as a character.
[0091] The first-class grant target game element data 179 stores various setting data related to the first-class grant target game elements. The first-class grant target game element data 179 includes appearance display control data 181 set for each second-class character. FIG. 13 is a diagram showing an example of the data configuration of the appearance display control data 181.
[0092] As shown in FIG. 13 , the appearance display control data 181 is a data table that associates the ID of each second-class character with a character type, selection permission information, and friendship level. When the corresponding second-class character is a character of the same type as a first-class character but with a different appearance, the character type stores the type of the first-class character. The selection permission information is set, for example, for second-class characters other than characters with different appearances. In this embodiment, the setting of whether the corresponding second-class character is a "friend" or an "enemy" is stored. The friendship level is set for second-class characters that are characters with a different appearance whose character type is set to the type of the first-class character, and for second-class characters whose selection permission information is set to "friend," and is set to, for example, "good," "average," or "bad."
[0093] The second-type grant target item data 183 stores various setting data related to the second-type grant target items. FIG. 14 is a diagram showing an example of the data configuration of the second-type grant target item data 183.
[0094] As shown in FIG. 14 , the second-type grant eligible item data 183 is a data table in which the item type, limit type, and lottery probability are set in association with the item ID. The item type is identification information indicating whether the corresponding item is a redecorating item or a food item. The limit type stores a setting of whether the corresponding item is a limit item or a frameless item. In this embodiment, redecorating items are limit items, and food items are frameless items. The lottery probability may be set as appropriate, but it is preferable to set the lottery probability for redecorating items lower than the lottery probability for food items, for example.
[0095] The number of first type medals owned 185 stores the current number of first type medals owned, and the number of second type medals owned 187 stores the current number of second type medals owned.
[0096] The resident character settings 189 store the settings for the resident characters in the resident replacement menu on the room screen (settings for which first-class characters have been selected by the user as resident characters). The screen settings 191 store settings for the room display in the redecoration menu on the room screen (settings for which redecoration items have been selected by the user).
[0097] The picture book data 193 is a data table that is assigned by the first process and sets the game elements that have been registered in the picture book. FIG. 15 is a diagram showing an example of the data configuration of the picture book data 193. As shown in FIG. 15, the picture book data 193 stores, in association with the display column number of the picture book, the ID of the game element (second-class character or item) assigned to the display column, and flag information indicating whether the game element has been registered as a registered character or registered item. If the game element is a second-class character, the second-class character ID is used as the game element ID.
[0098] The possessed item list 195 stores a list of possessed items among the items granted in the second process. For food items, the number of possessed items is set in association with each item.
[0099] 16 and 17 are flowcharts showing the flow of processing performed by the learning device 10 in this embodiment. The processing described here is realized by the processing unit 140 reading and executing the learning assistance program 171.
[0100] 16 , in this process, when the learning menu is selected on the home screen (step S1: YES), the processing unit 140 executes a learning process in accordance with the selection of a learning item and a learning step (step S3). After the learning process is executed, the reward granting process execution unit 143 executes a reward granting process, granting one first-type medal and one second-type medal to the user (step S5). Furthermore, the first reward possession quantity display control unit 145 displays the quantity of first-type medals possessed as the first reward (step S7).
[0101] Next, if the first-type medals are awarded in step S5, and the user's first-type medal possession amount 185 satisfies the first activation condition (step S9: YES), the activation effect control unit 149 outputs an effect corresponding to the satisfaction of the first activation condition (step S11). Then, the first processing control unit 147 controls the automatic execution of the first process (step S13). The first processing control unit 147 executes, as the first process, a process of, for example, randomly selecting one of the first-type award target game elements set in the first-type award target game element data 179 and awarding it to the user.
[0102] Next, the registration unit 155 registers the game element added in step S13 in the picture book and updates the picture book data 193 (step S15). If the added game element is a second-class character, the registration unit 155 registers the character in the picture book as a registered character, and if the added game element is an item, the registration unit 155 registers the character in the picture book as a registered item.
[0103] Next, the first processing control unit 147 determines whether the number of granted game elements has reached the upper limit condition. In this embodiment, when all types of game elements eligible for first-type granting have been granted and registered in the illustrated book, the first processing control unit 147 determines that the upper limit condition has been reached (step S17: YES) and stops further execution of the first process (step S19). In addition, the upper limit achievement effect control unit 151 outputs an effect indicating that the upper limit condition has been reached (step S21). After that, the process proceeds to step S59 in FIG. 17.
[0104] When the picture book menu is selected on the home screen (step S23: YES), the picture book display control unit 157 displays a picture book screen and displays a list of registered game elements (registered characters and registered items) in a picture book format (step S25). After that, the process proceeds to step S59 in FIG. 17.
[0105] 17, when the room menu is selected on the home screen (step S27: YES), the content execution unit 160 executes the training game. That is, first, the room screen display control unit 161 displays the room screen based on the resident character settings 189 and the screen settings 191, and performs control to display the resident characters on the room screen (step S29).
[0106] When the resident replacement menu is selected on the room screen (step S31: YES), the content execution unit 160 accepts a selection operation of a first-class character to be used as a resident character. The content execution unit 160 then sets the selected first-class character as a new resident character and updates the resident character setting 189 (step S33).
[0107] Furthermore, when the redecoration menu is selected on the room screen (step S35: YES), the content execution unit 160 displays a list of redecoration items set in the owned item list 195 and accepts a selection operation. The content execution unit 160 then updates the screen settings 191 and changes the room on the room screen to display the interior of the selected redecoration item (step S37).
[0108] Furthermore, when a lottery machine is selected on the room screen (step S39: YES), the second processing control unit 153 controls the execution of the second process. That is, when the second-type medal possession amount 187 satisfies the second activation condition (step S41: YES), the second processing control unit 153 accepts the selection of the lottery machine as an execution instruction operation and controls the execution of the second process (step S43). Specifically, for example, the second processing control unit 153 executes a lottery process in which one of the second-type grant target items is selected by lottery using the respective lottery probabilities in accordance with the setting of the second-type grant target item data 183. Then, the second processing control unit 153 grants the item selected by lottery to the user.
[0109] Furthermore, when a refrigerator is selected on the room screen (step S45: YES), the content execution unit 160 displays a list of the number of owned food items for each food item set in the owned item list 195, and accepts an operation to select a food item to be used. When a food item is selected (step S47: YES), the content execution unit 160 controls to output a representation of the resident character eating on the room screen (step S49).
[0110] Furthermore, when a door is selected on the room screen (step S51: YES), the appearance display control unit 163 accepts the door selection as an appearance request operation and starts appearance display control. That is, as appearance display control, the appearance display control unit 163 first selects an appearance character from among the registered characters (class-2 characters) registered in the picture book data 193 (step S53). In this embodiment, the appearance display control unit 163 extracts appearance character candidates using the selection permission information set for each class-2 character in the appearance display control data 181, and extracts appearance character candidates using the character type. Then, the appearance display control unit 163 selects one of the extracted appearance character candidates as an appearance character.
[0111] Next, the appearance display control unit 163 performs a presentation display for both the resident character and the appearance character based on the combination of the resident character displayed on the room screen and the appearance character selected in step S53 (step S55). After that, if the room menu is to be ended (step S57: YES), the process proceeds to step S59.
[0112] Then, in step S59, an end determination is made, and until it is determined that the process has ended (step S59: NO), the process returns to step S1 in FIG.
[0113] As described above, according to this embodiment, one first-type medal and one second-type medal are awarded to the user through the reward-awarding process executed each time the learning process is completed. The first-type medal can be used after three medals are accumulated by repeating the learning process for each learning step three times. In other words, it takes three executions of the reward-awarding process before the first process can be executed. Then, when three first-type medals are accumulated, the first process is automatically executed, and the first-type game element to be awarded can be awarded in exchange for consuming the medals. In contrast, the second-type medal can be used if only one medal is in possession. In other words, once the reward-awarding process is executed once, the second process can be executed. In the second process, the second item to be awarded can be awarded by consuming one second-type medal based on the user's operation and executing the second process.
[0114] Therefore, by executing the reward granting process once, (1) second-type medals that allow the second process to be immediately executed can be awarded, and (2) first-type medals that have no effect on their own but that allow the first process to be executed when three medals are accumulated by repeating the reward granting process three times can be awarded. This mechanism adds a new level of interest to the granting of rewards to users. Furthermore, the granting of second-type medals motivates short-term learning by studying one learning step. In contrast, the granting of first-type medals motivates long-term learning by repeating each learning step. This can stimulate the user's motivation to learn and improve learning efficiency.
[0115] Furthermore, according to this embodiment, if the game element added by the first process is a second-class character, it can be registered as a registered character in the illustrated book. Then, when the user requests an appearance during the training game, a character can be selected from the registered characters and made to appear on the room screen with a predetermined effect display. Therefore, the user can collect registered characters by progressing through each learning step, and enjoy having the collected registered characters appear on the room screen. This can continuously attract the user's interest and further stimulate the user's motivation to learn.
