Description

Digital rearview mirror device and system and method of operation thereof

[0001] The present disclosure relates to a digital rear mirror (DRM) device and system and an operating method thereof.

[0002] Drivers must keep both eyes on the road and the rear while driving. To achieve this, vehicles are equipped with a rearview mirror (also known as a rearview mirror, rearview mirror, room mirror, or inside mirror). This means that drivers maintain a forward-facing posture while checking the rear through the rearview mirror. However, the driver's rearward view is often obscured by passengers, objects, or a separate cargo area behind the driver. This can lead to various hazards.

[0003] The present disclosure provides a digital rearview mirror device and system for providing a rear view of a vehicle and a method of operating the same.

[0004] In the present disclosure, a digital rear mirror system of a vehicle may include a camera device configured to capture a rear image of the vehicle, and a digital rear mirror device configured to display a field of view image detected from the rear image.

[0005] In the present disclosure, a method of operating a digital rearview mirror system of a vehicle may include a step of a camera device capturing a rear view image of the vehicle, and a step of the digital rearview mirror device displaying a field of view image detected from the rear view image.

[0006] In the present disclosure, a camera device connected to a digital rearview mirror device in a vehicle may include an interface module communicatively connected to the digital rearview mirror device, a camera module configured to capture a rearview image of the vehicle, and an interface module connected to the interface module and the camera module, configured to detect a field of view image from the rearview image, and transmit the field of view image to a digital rearview mirror device, thereby causing the digital rearview mirror device to display the field of view image.

[0007] In the present disclosure, a method of operating a camera device connected to a digital rearview mirror device in a vehicle may include a step of capturing a rearview image of the vehicle, a step of detecting a field of view image from the rearview image, and a step of transmitting the field of view image to the digital rearview mirror device so that the digital rearview mirror device displays the field of view image.

[0008] In the present disclosure, a digital rearview mirror device of a vehicle may include a display module having a display area, an interface module communicatively connected to a camera device for capturing a rear view image of the vehicle, and a processor connected to the display module and the interface module and configured to display a field of view image detected from the rear view image on the display area.

[0009] In the present disclosure, a method of operating a digital rearview mirror device of a vehicle may include a step of confirming a field of view image detected from a rear view image of a vehicle captured by a camera device, and a step of displaying the field of view image in a display area.

[0010] According to the present disclosure, a digital rearview mirror device can provide an unobstructed rearview view to a driver of a vehicle by displaying a field of view image detected from a rearview image of a vehicle captured by a camera device. According to a first embodiment, when the camera device detects a field of view image from the rearview image, the field of view image is transmitted from the camera device to the digital rearview mirror device, thereby reducing the transmission load between the digital rearview mirror device and the camera device. This can lead to rational component selection in implementing a digital rearview mirror system, improvement of transmission noise between the digital rearview mirror device and the camera device, and increase of transmission power efficiency. According to a second embodiment, when the digital rearview mirror device detects a field of view image from the rearview image, the camera device transmits the rearview image to the digital rearview mirror device, thereby allowing a general camera device to be used without modification. Furthermore, according to the present disclosure, the position of the field of view image detected from the rearview image can be adjusted based on user input, thereby providing the driver with a rearview view at a desired viewing angle. At this time, the driver can intuitively determine the desired viewing angle by providing user input while monitoring changes in the viewing angle in real time through the digital rearview mirror device. This can lead to improved user convenience and safety when utilizing the digital rearview mirror system.

[0028] Fig. 16 is a block diagram illustrating a control device of the vehicle of Fig. 15.

[0029] Hereinafter, various embodiments of this document are described with reference to the attached drawings.

[0030] First, a digital rear mirror system (100) according to various embodiments is described.

[0031] FIG. 1 is a block diagram illustrating the configuration of a digital rearview mirror system (100) according to various embodiments. FIG. 2 is an exemplary diagram illustrating a first function of the digital rearview mirror system (100) of FIG. 1. FIG. 3 is an exemplary diagram illustrating a second function of the digital rearview mirror system (100) of FIG. 1.

[0032] Referring to FIG. 1, a digital rearview mirror system (100) may include a camera device (110) and a digital rearview mirror device (120). The digital rearview mirror system (100) may be mounted inside a vehicle, and may be configured to acquire image information about the surrounding environment of the vehicle through the camera device (110), store the image information in a memory (930) within the camera device (110), or output visual information through the digital rearview mirror device (120) based on the image information. In some embodiments, at least one other component (e.g., another camera device) may be added to the digital rearview mirror system (100).

[0033] The camera device (110) and the digital rearview mirror device (120) may be connected to each other in a wired or wireless manner. In one embodiment, the camera device (110) and the digital rearview mirror device (120) may be connected via a communication cable. The camera device (110) and the digital rearview mirror device (120) may communicate via a serial transmission method. However, the present invention is not limited thereto, and the camera device (110) and the digital rearview mirror device (120) may be connected via an internal vehicle network communication (e.g., CAN communication). The camera device (110) and the digital rearview device (120) may include various communication chips.

[0034] The image captured by the camera device (110) may be an image of the surroundings of the vehicle. For example, the camera device (110) may acquire a rear image (210) of the vehicle. To this end, the camera device (110) may be mounted at the rear of the vehicle, facing the rear of the vehicle.

[0035] The digital rearview mirror device (120) can display an image captured by the camera device (110). The surrounding image captured by the camera device (110) can be displayed on the digital rearview mirror device (120) mounted inside the vehicle. For example, the rear view image of the vehicle captured by the camera device (110) can be provided to the driver of the vehicle through the digital rearview device (120). For this purpose, the digital rearview mirror device (120) can be placed within the driver's field of vision.

[0036] Referring to FIG. 2, a digital rearview mirror device (120) may be provided to display a field of view image (220) detected from a rearview image (210). Specifically, the digital rearview mirror device (120) may have a display area of a predetermined size and resolution, and may display a field of view image (220) in the display area.

[0037] According to various embodiments, the digital rearview mirror system (100) may have a first function, i.e., a crop function. That is, the digital rearview mirror system (100) may detect a field of view image (220) as at least a portion of a rearview image (210). The rearview image (210) may have a resolution of the camera device (110), and the field of view image (220) may have a resolution of a display area of the digital rearview mirror device (120). Accordingly, the field of view image (220) may be detected from the rearview image (210) based on the resolution of the display area of the digital rearview mirror device (120). For example, as illustrated in FIG. 2, since the resolution of the display area of the digital rearview mirror device (120) is lower than the resolution of the camera device (110), the rearview image (210) is divided into a field of view image (220) and a remaining image (230), and the field of view image (220) can be detected by removing the remaining image (230) from the rearview image (210). According to the first embodiment, the camera device (110) can detect the field of view image (220) from the rearview image (210). According to the second embodiment, the digital rearview mirror device (120) can detect the field of view image (220) from the rearview image (210). As a result, the digital rearview mirror device (120) can display the field of view image (220) in the display area.

[0038] According to some embodiments, although not shown, the camera device (110) or the digital rearview mirror device (120) may detect a rearview image (220) by setting at least one region of interest from the rearview image (210). Here, the region of interest may be an area containing a lot of image information (e.g., objects). For example, the rearview image (210) of the vehicle acquired through the camera device (110) may be corrected. Here, the image correction may mean generating an image that is larger than the rearview image (210). That is, a corrected image having a larger size than the rearview image (210) may be generated, and the horizontal length of the corrected image may be longer than the horizontal length of the rearview image (210), but is not limited thereto. The vertical length of the corrected image may be longer than the vertical length of the rearview image (210), but is not limited thereto. The horizontal length of the above-mentioned corrected image may be longer than the horizontal length of the rear image (210), and the vertical length of the above-mentioned corrected image may be longer than the vertical length of the rear image (210). By setting only the area with a lot of information in the generated corrected image as the area of interest and removing (cropping) only the information of the areas of no interest, only the area of interest can be detected as the field of view image (220).

[0039] According to various embodiments, the digital rearview mirror system (100) may have a second function, namely a tilt function. That is, the digital rearview mirror system (100) may adjust the position of the field of view image (220) to be detected from the rearview image (210). Each driver of the vehicle may have a desired field of view, which may vary depending on the situation. Therefore, the digital rearview mirror system (100) may determine the position of the field of view image (220) to be detected from the rearview image (210) according to the required field of view, based on a user input. For example, as illustrated in FIG. 3, the position of a setting region (320) having a size corresponding to the resolution of the field of view image (220) may be moved up and down within the entire region (310) having a size corresponding to the resolution of the rearview image (210). Additionally or alternatively, although not illustrated, the position of the setting region (320) may also be moved left and right within the entire region (310). In this way, the field of view image (220) can be detected within the rear image (210) based on the location of the setting area (320) within the entire area (310).

[0040] According to some embodiments, the camera device (110) and the digital rearview mirror device (120) may communicate in a serial transmission manner. In this case, the camera device (110) may include a serializer, and the digital rearview mirror device (120) may include a deserializer. The serializer and the deserializer may communicate in both directions. Here, between the serializer and the deserializer, there may be a first channel from the serializer to the deserializer and a second channel (which may also be referred to as a back channel) from the deserializer to the serializer. Through the first channel, a rearview image (210) or a field of view image (220) may be transmitted. Here, the serializer may convert the rearview image (210) or the field of view image (220) from parallel data to serial data, and the deserializer may convert the rearview image (210) or the field of view image (220) from serial data to parallel data. Meanwhile, through the second channel, the position of the field of view image (220) to be detected within the rear image (210) determined based on user input, i.e., the position of the set area (320) within the entire area (310), or user input can be transmitted.

[0041] Now, the operation method of the digital rear mirror system (100) according to the first embodiment is described.

[0042] FIG. 4a is a flowchart illustrating a display method of a digital rear mirror system (100) according to the first embodiment.

[0043] Referring to FIG. 4A, in step 410, the camera device (110) can capture a rear image (210) of the vehicle. Here, the rear image (210) can have the resolution of the camera device (110). Then, in step 420, the camera device (110) can detect a field of view image (220) from the rear image (210). That is, the camera device (110) can detect the field of view image (220) from the rear image (210) based on the resolution of the display area. Here, the field of view image (220) can have the resolution of the display area of the digital rear mirror device (120). For example, as illustrated in FIG. 2, since the resolution of the display area of the digital rearview mirror device (120) is lower than the resolution of the camera device (110), the camera device (110) can divide the rearview image (210) into a field of view image (220) and the remaining image (230), and detect the field of view image (220) from the rearview image (210).

[0044] Next, in step 430, the camera device (110) can transmit the field of view image (220) to the digital rear-view mirror device (120). Here, the camera device (110) can transmit the field of view image (220) to the digital rear-view mirror device (120) in a serial transmission manner. The camera device (110) can transmit the field of view image (220) to the digital rear-view mirror device (120) through a first channel. A serializer provided in the camera device (110) can transmit the field of view image (220) to a deserializer provided in the digital rear-view mirror device (120). The field of view image (220) transmitted from the camera device (110) to the digital rear-view mirror device (120) can be parallel data. The serializer can convert parallel data for the field of view image (220) into serial data and transmit the serial data to the deserializer. The deserializer can receive the field of view image (220) through the first channel. The deserializer can convert the field of view image (220) from serial data to parallel data.

[0045] Thus, in step 440, the digital rearview mirror device (120) can display the field of view image (220). That is, the digital rearview mirror device (120) can display the field of view image (220) in the display area. To this end, the digital rearview mirror device (120) can resize the field of view image (220) to the size of the display area. FIG. 4b is a flowchart illustrating another display method of the digital rearview mirror system (100) according to the first embodiment.

[0046] Referring to FIG. 4B, in step 450, the camera device (110) can capture a rear image (210) of the vehicle. Here, the rear image (210) may have the resolution of the camera device (110). Then, in step 460, the camera device (110) can correct the rear image (210) to generate a corrected image. The corrected image may be an image larger in size than the rear image (210). Thereafter, in step 470, the camera device (110) can detect only the region of interest as the field of view image (220) by setting only the region with a lot of information in the corrected image as the region of interest and removing (cropping) only the information of the non-interest regions. Here, the field of view image (220) may have the resolution of the display area of the digital rear mirror device (120).

[0047] Next, in step 480, the camera device (110) can transmit the field of view image (220) to the digital rear-view mirror device (120).

[0048] Thus, in step 490, the digital rearview mirror device (120) can display the field of view image (220). That is, the digital rearview mirror device (120) can display the field of view image (220) in the display area. To this end, the digital rearview mirror device (120) can resize the field of view image (220) to the size of the display area.

[0049] FIG. 5 is a flowchart illustrating a method for setting up a digital rear mirror system (100) according to the first embodiment.

[0050] Referring to FIG. 5, at step 510, the digital rearview mirror device (120) can detect a user input. For example, the user input may include at least one of a key input (e.g., a hard key or a soft key) or a voice input. Specifically, while the digital rearview mirror device (120) displays a field of view image (220) in a display area, the user can determine whether the field of view image (220) in the display area conforms to a desired field of view. If it does not conform, the user can request a desired field of view through a user input.

[0051] In response to this, at step 520, the digital rearview mirror device (120) can determine the position of the field of view image (220) to be detected in the rearview image (210). That is, the digital rearview mirror device (120) can determine the position of the field of view image (220) to be detected in the rearview image (210) according to a required field of view angle based on a user input. For example, as illustrated in FIG. 3, the digital rearview mirror device (120) can adjust the position of the setting area (320) having a size corresponding to the resolution of the field of view image (220) within the entire area (310) having a size corresponding to the resolution of the rearview image (210).

[0052] Next, in step 530, the digital rear-view mirror device (120) can transmit the corresponding position, i.e., the position of the setting area (320) within the entire area (310), to the camera device (110). Here, the digital rear-view mirror device (120) can transmit the position of the setting area (320) within the entire area (310) to the camera device (110) in a serial transmission manner. The digital rear-view mirror device (120) can transmit the position of the setting area (320) to the camera device (110) through a second channel. The deserializer provided in the digital rear-view mirror device (120) can transmit the position of the setting area (320) to the serializer provided in the camera device (110).

[0053] Accordingly, in step 540, the serializer provided in the camera device (110) can receive the setting area (320). The camera device (110) can set the corresponding position, i.e., the position of the setting area (320) within the entire area (310). Accordingly, the camera device (110) can then use the position of the setting area (320) within the entire area (310) to detect the field of view image (220) within the rear image (210). In this way, the position of the field of view image (220) to be detected in the rear image (210), i.e., the position of the setting area (220) within the entire area (310), can be set in the camera device (110) at a final viewing angle desired by the user.

[0054] FIG. 6 is a flowchart illustrating another setting method of the digital rear mirror system (100) according to the first embodiment.

[0055] Referring to FIG. 6, at step 610, the digital rearview mirror device (120) can detect a user input.

[0056] Next, in step 620, the digital rearview mirror device (120) can transmit a user input to the camera device (110). Here, the digital rearview mirror device (120) can transmit the user input to the camera device (110) in a serial transmission manner. The digital rearview mirror device (120) can transmit the user input to the camera device (110) through a second channel. The deserializer provided in the digital rearview mirror device (120) can transmit the user input to the serializer provided in the camera device (110). In response, in step 630, the serializer provided in the camera device (110) can receive the user input. The camera device (110) can determine the position of the field of view image (220) to be detected in the rearview image (210). That is, the camera device (110) can determine the position of the field of view image (220) to be detected in the rearview image (210) according to a required field of view based on the user input. For example, as illustrated in FIG. 3, the camera device (110) can adjust the position of a setting area (320) having a size corresponding to the resolution of a field image (220) within an entire area (310) having a size corresponding to the resolution of a rear image (210).

[0057] Thus, in step 640, the camera device (110) can set the corresponding position, i.e., the position of the setting area (320) within the entire area (310). Accordingly, the camera device (110) can then detect the field of view image (220) within the rear image (210) using the position of the setting area (320) within the entire area (310). In this way, the position of the field of view image (220) to be detected in the rear image (210), i.e., the position of the setting area (220) within the entire area (310), can be set in the camera device (110) at the final viewing angle desired by the user.

[0058] Now, the operation method of the digital rear mirror system (100) according to the second embodiment is described.

[0059] Fig. 7a is a flowchart illustrating a display method of a digital rear mirror system (100) according to a second embodiment.

[0060] Referring to FIG. 7A, in step 710, the camera device (110) can capture a rear image (210) of the vehicle. Here, the rear image (210) can have the resolution of the camera device (110). Then, in step 720, the camera device (110) can transmit the rear image (210) to the digital rear mirror device (120). Here, the camera device (110) can transmit the rear image (210) to the digital rear mirror device (120) using a serial transmission method. The camera device (110) can transmit the rear image (210) to the digital rear mirror device (120) through a first channel. The serializer provided in the camera device (110) can transmit the rear image (210) to the deserializer provided in the digital rear mirror device (120). The rear image (210) transmitted from the camera device (110) to the digital rear mirror device (120) may be parallel data. The serializer may convert the parallel data for the rear image (210) into serial data and transmit it to the deserializer. The deserializer may receive the rear image (210) through the first channel. The deserializer may convert the rear image (210) from serial data to parallel data.

[0061] Next, in step 730, the digital rearview mirror device (120) can detect the field of view image (220) from the rearview image (210). That is, the digital rearview mirror device (120) can detect the field of view image (220) from the rearview image (210) based on the resolution of the display area. Here, the field of view image (220) can have the resolution of the display area of the digital rearview mirror device (120). For example, as illustrated in FIG. 2, since the resolution of the display area of the digital rearview mirror device (120) is lower than the resolution of the camera device (110), the digital rearview mirror device (120) can divide the rearview image (210) into the field of view image (220) and the remaining images (230), and detect the field of view image (220) from the rearview image (210).

[0062] Thus, in step 740, the digital rearview mirror device (120) can display the field of view image (220). That is, the digital rearview mirror device (120) can display the field of view image (220) in the display area. To this end, the digital rearview mirror device (120) can resize the field of view image (220) to the size of the display area.

[0063] FIG. 7b is a flowchart illustrating another display method of the digital rear mirror system (100) according to the second embodiment.

[0064] Referring to FIG. 7B, at step 750, the camera device (110) can capture a rear image (210) of the vehicle. Here, the rear image (210) can have the resolution of the camera device (110). Then, at step 760, the camera device (110) can transmit the rear image (210) to the digital rear mirror device (120).

[0065] Next, in step 770, the digital rearview mirror device (120) can correct the rearview image (210) to generate a corrected image. The corrected image may be an image larger in size than the rearview image (210). In step 780, the digital rearview mirror device (120) can detect only the region of interest as the field of view image (220) by setting only the region with a lot of information in the corrected image as the region of interest and removing (cropping) only the information of the non-interest regions. Here, the field of view image (220) may have the resolution of the display area of the digital rearview mirror device (120).

[0066] Thus, in step 790, the digital rearview mirror device (120) can display the field of view image (220). That is, the digital rearview mirror device (120) can display the field of view image (220) in the display area. To this end, the digital rearview mirror device (120) can resize the field of view image (220) to the size of the display area.

[0067] Fig. 8 is a flowchart illustrating a method for setting up a digital rear mirror system (100) according to the second embodiment.

[0068] Referring to FIG. 8, at step 810, the digital rearview mirror device (120) can detect a user input. For example, the user input can include at least one of a key input (e.g., a hard key or a soft key) or a voice input. Specifically, while the digital rearview mirror device (120) displays a field of view image (220) in a display area, the user can determine whether the field of view image (220) in the display area conforms to a desired field of view. If it does not conform, the user can request a desired field of view through a user input.

[0069] In response to this, at step 820, the digital rearview mirror device (120) can determine the position of the field of view image (220) to be detected in the rearview image (210).

[0070] Thus, in step 830, the digital rearview mirror device (120) can set the corresponding position, i.e., the position of the setting area (320) within the entire area (310). Accordingly, the digital rearview mirror device (120) can then detect the field of view image (220) within the rearview image (210) using the position of the setting area (320) within the entire area (310). In this way, the position of the field of view image (220) to be detected in the rearview image (210), i.e., the position of the setting area (220) within the entire area (310), can be set in the digital rearview mirror device (120) at the final viewing angle desired by the user.

[0071] Now, a camera device (110) and its operating method according to various embodiments are described.

[0072] FIG. 9 is a block diagram illustrating the internal configuration of a camera device (110) according to various embodiments.

[0073] Referring to FIG. 9, a camera device (110) may be mounted on a vehicle together with a digital rearview mirror device (120) and may be communicatively connected to the digital rearview mirror device (120). At this time, the camera device (110) may be mounted on the rear of the vehicle so as to face the rear of the vehicle. Specifically, the camera device (110) may include at least one of an interface module (910), a camera module (920), a memory (930), or a processor (940). In some embodiments, at least one of the components of the camera device (110) may be omitted, and at least one other component may be added. In some embodiments, at least two of the components of the camera device (110) may be implemented as a single integrated circuit.

[0074] An interface module (910) may be provided for connection with an external device. Specifically, the interface module (910) may support a designated protocol that may be connected to an external device via a wire or wireless connection. For example, the interface module (910) may include at least one of a high definition multimedia interface (HDMI), a universal serial bus (USB) interface, an SD card interface, or an audio interface. According to various embodiments, the interface module (910) may include a serializer. The serializer may be capable of bidirectional communication with a deserializer of the digital rearview mirror device (120). Here, between the serializer and the deserializer, there may be a first channel from the serializer to the deserializer and a second channel (which may also be referred to as a back channel) from the deserializer to the serializer.

[0075] The camera module (920) can capture images. For example, the camera module (920) can include at least one lens, an image sensor, or a flash. According to various embodiments, when the camera device (110) is mounted on a vehicle so that it faces the rear of the vehicle, the camera module (920) can capture a rear image (210) of the vehicle.

[0076] The memory (930) can store various data used by at least one component of the camera device (110). For example, the memory (930) can include at least one of volatile memory and non-volatile memory. The data can include at least one program and input data or output data related thereto. The program can be stored in the memory (930) as software including at least one command, and can include, for example, at least one of an operating system, middleware, or an application. According to the first embodiment, the memory (930) can store setting information for a field of view image (220) to be detected in the rear image (210). Here, the setting information can include at least one of a resolution of the field of view image (220), a size corresponding thereto, or a location to be detected within the rear image (210), i.e., a location of a setting area (320) corresponding to the resolution of the field of view image (220) within the entire area (310) corresponding to the resolution of the rear image (210).

[0077] The processor (940) can execute a program in the memory (930) to control at least one component of the camera device (110). Through this, the processor (940) can perform data processing or calculations. At this time, the processor (940) can execute commands stored in the memory (930). In particular, the processor (940) can include an image signal processor (ISP).

[0078] According to the first embodiment, the processor (940) can capture a rear image (210) through the camera module (920) and, based on the setting information, detect a field of view image (220) from the rear image (210). At this time, the image signal processor not only performs general image processing functions, but can also detect the field of view image (220) from the rear image (210). In one embodiment, the processor (940) can directly detect the field of view image (220) from the rear image (210). In another embodiment, the processor (940) can correct the rear image (210) to generate a corrected image, and detect the field of view image (220) from the corrected image. Here, the processor (940) can store the rear image (210) or the field of view image (220) in the memory (930). In this case, the processor (940) can transmit the field of view image (220) to the digital rearview mirror device (120) through the interface module (910). Here, the serializer of the interface module (910) can convert the field of view image (220) from parallel data to serial data. And, the serializer of the interface module (910) can transmit the field of view image (220) through the first channel. In this embodiment, the processor (940) can also change the location of the field of view image (220) to be detected within the rear view image (210) among the setting information, that is, the location of the setting area (320) within the entire area (310). Here, the serializer of the interface module (910) can directly receive the location through the second channel or can receive a user input. When a user input is received, the processor (940) can change the location based on the user input.

[0079] According to the second embodiment, the processor (940) can capture a rear image (210) through the camera module (920) and transmit the rear image (210) to the digital rear mirror device (120) through the interface module (910). Here, the processor (940) can store the rear image (210) in the memory (930). The serializer of the interface module (910) can convert the rear image (210) from parallel data to serial data. The serializer of the interface module (910) can transmit the rear image (210) through the first channel.

[0080] Fig. 10 is a flowchart illustrating an operation method of a camera device (110) according to the first embodiment.

[0081] Referring to FIG. 10, in step 1010, setting information may be registered in the camera device (110). For example, when the digital rearview mirror system (100) is initially installed in a vehicle, the processor (940) may store arbitrary setting information in the memory (930). Here, the processor (940) may obtain arbitrary setting information from the digital rearview mirror device (120) through the interface module (910). As another example, when the camera device (110) is manufactured, arbitrary setting information may be stored in the memory (930). Here, the setting information may include at least one of the resolution of the field of view image (220), the corresponding size thereof, or the position to be detected within the rearview image (210), i.e., the position of the setting area (320) corresponding to the resolution of the field of view image (220) within the entire area (310) corresponding to the resolution of the rearview image (210).

[0082] Next, at step 1020, the camera device (110) may be turned on. Specifically, as power is supplied to the camera device (110), the processor (940) may boot. At this time, the processor (940) may retrieve configuration information from the memory (930). For example, when the vehicle is started, power may be supplied from the vehicle to the camera device (110). As another example, when the digital rearview mirror device (120) is turned on based on a user input, power may be supplied from the vehicle to the camera device (110).

[0083] Next, at step 1030, the camera device (110) can capture a rear image (210). Specifically, the processor (940) can capture the rear image (210) through the camera module (920). Here, the rear image (210) can have the resolution of the camera device (110).

[0084] Next, in step 1040, the camera device (110) can detect the field of view image (220) from the rear image (210). Specifically, the processor (940) can detect the field of view image (220) from the rear image (210) using the setting information of the memory (930). In one embodiment, the processor (940) can detect the field of view image (220) directly from the rear image (210). In another embodiment, the processor (940) can correct the rear image (210) to generate a corrected image, and detect the field of view image (220) from the corrected image. The corrected image may be an image larger in size than the rear image (210). The processor (940) can detect only the region of interest as the field of view image (220) by setting only the region with a lot of information in the corrected image as the region of interest and cropping only the information of the regions of non-interest. Here, the field of view image (220) may have the resolution of the display area of the digital rearview mirror device (120). And, the field of view image (220) may have an arbitrary viewing angle. The arbitrary viewing angle may be a viewing angle desired by the user. For example, as illustrated in FIG. 2, since the resolution of the display area of the digital rearview mirror device (120) is lower than the resolution of the camera device (110), the processor (940) may divide the rearview image (210) into the field of view image (220) and the remaining images (230), and detect the field of view image (220) from the rearview image (210).

[0085] Next, at step 1050, the camera device (110) can transmit the field of view image (220) to the digital rear mirror device (120). Specifically, the processor (940) can transmit the field of view image (220) to the digital rear mirror device (120) via the interface module (910).

[0086] Next, at step 1060, the camera device (110) may detect a request to change the setting information. Specifically, when the request is received from the digital rearview mirror device (120) through the interface module (910), the processor (940) may detect the request. In response, at step 1070, the camera device (110) may change the setting information. Specifically, the processor (940) may change the location of the field of view image (220) to be detected within the rearview image (210), i.e., the location of the setting area (320) within the entire area (310), among the setting information of the memory (930). According to one embodiment, the request may include the location of the field of view image (220) to be detected within the rearview image (210). That is, the digital rearview mirror device (120) may determine the location based on a user input and transmit the location to the camera device (110). Accordingly, the processor (940) may change the setting information using the location. In another embodiment, the request may include user input. That is, the digital rearview mirror device (120) may transmit the user input to the camera device (110). This allows the processor (940) to determine the location based on the user input and use the location to change the setting information.

[0087] Next, in step 1080, if the camera device (110) is not turned off, the camera device (110) may repeatedly perform at least some of steps 1030 to 1070. Specifically, if the already registered or changed setting information has a field of view desired by the user, the processor (940) may repeatedly perform only steps 1030 to 1050. The processor (940) may continuously capture the rear image (210), detect the field of view image (220) from the rear image (210), and transmit the field of view image (220) to the digital rear mirror device (120). At this time, if the setting information has been changed, the processor (940) may use the changed setting information in step 1040 to detect the field of view image (220) from the rear image (210). Meanwhile, if the already registered or changed setting information does not have the viewing angle desired by the user, the processor (940) may repeatedly perform steps 1030 to 1050 as well as steps 1060 and 1070. The processor (940) may additionally change the setting information in steps 1060 and 1070.

[0088] Meanwhile, at step 1080, the camera device (110) may be turned off. If a request to change the configuration information is not detected at step 1060, the camera device (110) may be turned off. Alternatively, after changing the configuration information at step 1070, the camera device (110) may be turned off. Specifically, if power is not supplied to the camera device (110), the processor (940) may be turned off. For example, when the vehicle ignition is turned off, power supply from the vehicle to the camera device (110) may be cut off. As another example, when the digital rearview mirror device (120) is turned off based on a user input, power supply from the vehicle to the camera device (110) may be cut off.

[0089] Fig. 11 is a flowchart illustrating an operation method of a camera device (110) according to a second embodiment.

[0090] Referring to FIG. 11, at step 1110, the camera device (110) may be turned on. Specifically, as power is supplied to the camera device (110), the processor (940) may boot. At this time, the processor (940) may call up configuration information from the memory (930). For example, when the vehicle is started, power may be supplied from the vehicle to the camera device (110). As another example, when the digital rearview mirror device (120) is turned on based on a user input, power may be supplied from the vehicle to the camera device (110).

[0091] Next, at step 1120, the camera device (110) can capture a rear image (210). Specifically, the processor (940) can capture the rear image (210) through the camera module (920). Here, the rear image (210) can have the resolution of the camera device (110).

[0092] Next, at step 1130, the camera device (110) can transmit the rear image (210) to the digital rear mirror device (120). Specifically, the processor (940) can transmit the rear image (210) to the digital rear mirror device (120) via the interface module (910).

[0093] Next, in step 1140, if the camera device (110) is not turned off, the camera device (110) may repeatedly perform steps 1120 and 1130. Specifically, the processor (940) may continuously capture the rear image (210) and transmit the rear image (210) to the digital rear mirror device (120).

[0094] Meanwhile, at step 1140, the camera device (110) may be turned off. Specifically, if power is not supplied to the camera device (110), the processor (940) may be turned off. For example, when the vehicle's ignition is turned off, power supply from the vehicle to the camera device (110) may be cut off. As another example, when the digital rearview mirror device (120) is turned off based on a user input, power supply from the vehicle to the camera device (110) may be cut off.

[0095] Now, a digital rear mirror device (120) and its operating method according to various embodiments are described.

[0096] FIG. 12 is a block diagram illustrating the internal configuration of a digital rear mirror device (120) according to various embodiments.

[0097] Referring to FIG. 12, a digital rearview mirror device (120) is mounted inside a vehicle together with a camera device (110) and can be communicatively connected to the camera device (110). [0101] According to various embodiments, at least one of the input module (1210), the sensor module (1220), or the communication module (1230) may generate a user input. For example, the user input may include at least one of a key input (e.g., a hard key or a soft key) or a voice input. In one embodiment, any sensor of the input module (1210) or the sensor module (1220) may generate a user input based on a signal directly input from a user. For example, at least one of a motion sensor, a gesture sensor, a proximity sensor, a temperature sensor, or an illuminance sensor may be utilized for the user input. In another embodiment, the communication module (1230) may generate a user input based on a signal input from another electronic device used by the user.

[0102] An interface module (1240) may be provided for connection with an external device. According to various embodiments, the interface module (1240) may include a deserializer. The deserializer may be capable of bidirectional communication with the serializer of the camera device (110). Here, between the serializer and the deserializer, there may be a first channel from the serializer to the deserializer and a second channel (which may also be referred to as a back channel) from the deserializer to the serializer.

[0103] A display module (1250) may be provided to display a field of view image (220) detected from a rear view image (210) of a vehicle. To this end, the display module (1250) may have a display area with a predetermined size and resolution, and the resolution of the field of view image (220) may be the same as the resolution of the display area. [0104] The audio output module (1260) can output an audio signal generated from the digital rear mirror device (120). For example, the audio output module (1260) can include at least one of a speaker or a receiver.

[0105] The memory (1270) can store various data used by at least one component of the digital rearview mirror device (120). For example, the memory (1270) can include at least one of a volatile memory or a non-volatile memory. The data can include at least one program and input data or output data related thereto. The program can be stored in the memory (1270) as software including at least one command, and can include, for example, at least one of an operating system, middleware, or an application. According to the second embodiment, the memory (1270) can store setting information for a field of view image (220) to be detected in the rearview image (210). Here, the setting information can include at least one of a resolution of the field of view image (220), a size corresponding thereto, or a location to be detected within the rearview image (210), i.e., a location of a setting area (320) corresponding to the resolution of the field of view image (220) within the entire area (310) corresponding to the resolution of the rearview image (210).

[0106] The processor (1280) can control at least one component of the digital rearview mirror device (120) by executing a program in the memory (1270). Through this, the processor (1280) can perform data processing or calculations. At this time, the processor (1280) can execute commands stored in the memory (1270).

[0107] According to the first embodiment, the processor (1280) can receive a field of view image (220) from the camera device (110) through the interface module (1240). Here, the deserializer of the interface module (1240) can receive the field of view image (220) through the first channel. The deserializer of the interface module (1240) can convert the field of view image (220) from serial data to parallel data. The processor (1280) can store the field of view image (220) in the memory (1270). Accordingly, the processor (1280) can display the field of view image (220) through the display module (1250). In this embodiment, the processor (1280) may cooperate with the camera device (110) through the interface module (1240) to change the location of the field of view image (220) to be detected within the rear image (210), i.e., the location of the setting area (320) within the entire area (310), among the setting information registered in the camera device (110). Here, the deserializer of the interface module (1240) may directly transmit the location through the second channel or transmit a user input.

[0108] According to a second embodiment, the processor (1280) can receive a rear image (210) from the camera device (110) through the interface module (1240). Here, the deserializer of the interface module (1240) can receive the rear image (210) through the first channel. The deserializer of the interface module (1240) can convert the rear image (210) from serial data to parallel data. In this case, the processor (1280) can detect a field of view image (220) from the rear image (210) based on the configuration information. In one embodiment, the processor (1280) can directly detect the field of view image (220) from the rear image (210). In another embodiment, the processor (1280) can correct the rear image (210) to generate a corrected image, and detect the field of view image (220) from the corrected image. Here, the processor (1280) can store the rear image (210) or the field of view image (220) in the memory (1270). Accordingly, the processor (1280) can display the field of view image (220) through the display module (1250). In this embodiment, the processor (1280) can also change the location of the field of view image (220) to be detected within the rear image (210), i.e., the location of the setting area (320) within the entire area (310), among the setting information of the memory (1270).

[0109] Additionally, the processor (1280) may analyze the rear view image (210) or the field of view image (220) to detect reference information and display the reference information together with the field of view image (220). The reference information may be information within the rear view image (210) or the field of view image (220), such as a road sign, or information derived from the rear view image (210) or the field of view image (220), such as a distance to an adjacent vehicle, a speed of an adjacent vehicle, etc. As an example, the processor (1280) may display the field of view image (220) and the reference information in a display area. As another example, the processor (1280) may display the field of view image (220) in the display area while displaying the reference information in another display area. Here, the reference information may be displayed in various graphical representations, such as text, symbols, images, etc.

[0110] Additionally, the processor (1280) may use the sensing input inputted through the sensor module (1220) to adjust the display module (1250) or cause the camera device (110) to control the camera module (920). For example, the processor (1280) may detect a sensing input representing ambient brightness, etc., inputted through a light sensor, etc. In this case, the processor (1280) may use the sensing input to change at least one of the brightness or reflectivity of the display module (1250). Alternatively, the processor (1280) may use the sensing input to cause the camera device (110) to change the light sensitivity of the camera module (920) or the brightness of the rear image (210) captured through the camera module (920). Here, the processor (1280) can determine a target value for the light sensitivity of the camera module (920) or the brightness of the rear image (210) and transmit the target value to the camera device (110) or transmit a sensing input to the camera device (110).

[0111] Fig. 13 is a flowchart illustrating an operation method of a digital rear mirror device (120) according to the first embodiment.

[0112] Referring to FIG. 13, at step 1310, the digital rearview mirror device (120) may be turned on. Specifically, as power is supplied to the digital rearview mirror device (120), the processor (1280) may be booted. For example, when the vehicle is started, power may be supplied from the vehicle to the digital rearview mirror device (120). As another example, when the digital rearview mirror device (120) is turned on based on a user input via the input module (1210), power may be supplied from the vehicle to the digital rearview mirror device (120).

[0113] Meanwhile, setting information may be registered in the camera device (110).

[0114] Next, in step 1320, the digital rearview mirror device (120) can receive a field of view image (220) from the camera device (110). Specifically, the processor (1280) can receive the field of view image from the camera device (110) through the interface module (1240). At this time, the camera device (110) can capture a rearview image (210) and, using setting information, can detect a field of view image (220) from the rearview image (210). Here, the field of view image (220) can have a resolution of the display area of the digital rearview mirror device (120). And, the field of view image (220) can have an arbitrary field of view angle. The arbitrary field of view angle can be a field of view angle desired by the user. Here, the deserializer of the interface module (1240) can receive the field of view image (220) through the first channel. The deserializer of the interface module (1240) can convert the field of view image (220) from serial data to parallel data. The processor (1280) can store the field of view image (220) in the memory (1270).

[0115] Next, at step 1330, the digital rearview mirror device (120) can display a field of view image (220) in the display area. Specifically, the processor (1280) can display the field of view image (220) in the display area via the display module (1250). To this end, the processor (1280) can resize the field of view image (220) to the size of the display area.

[0116] Next, at step 1340, the digital rearview mirror device (120) may detect a request to change the setting information. Specifically, when a user input indicating the request is received from the user through at least one of the input module (1210), the sensor module (1220), or the communication module (1230), the processor (1280) may detect the request. In response, at step 1350, the digital rearview mirror device (120) may cause the camera device (110) to change the setting information. Specifically, the processor (1280) may cause the camera device (110) to change the location of the field of view image (220) to be detected within the rear view image (210) among the setting information, i.e., the location of the setting area (320) within the entire area (310). According to one embodiment, the processor (1280) may determine the location based on the user input and transmit the location to the camera device (110) through the interface module (1240). In another embodiment, the processor (1280) may transmit user input to the camera device (110) via the interface module (1240). Here, the deserializer of the interface module (1240) may directly transmit the location or transmit the user input via the second channel.

[0117] Next, in step 1360, if the digital rearview mirror device (120) is not turned off, the digital rearview mirror device (120) may repeatedly perform at least some of steps 1320 to 1350. Specifically, if the setting information already registered or changed for the camera device (110) has a viewing angle desired by the user, the processor (1280) may repeatedly perform only steps 1320 and 1330. The processor (1280) may continue to receive the field of view image (220) from the camera device (110) and display the field of view image (220) through the display device (1250). At this time, if the setting information for the camera device (110) has been changed, the field of view image (220) may be based on the changed setting information. Meanwhile, if the already registered or changed setting information for the camera device (110) does not have the viewing angle desired by the user, the processor (1280) may repeatedly perform steps 1320 and 1330 as well as steps 1340 and 1350. The processor (1280) may cause the camera device (110) to additionally change the setting information in steps 1340 and 1350.

[0118] Meanwhile, at step 1360, the digital rearview mirror device (120) may be turned off. If a request to change the setting information is not detected at step 1340, the digital rearview mirror device (120) may be turned off. Alternatively, after changing the setting information at step 1350, the digital rearview mirror device (120) may be turned off. Specifically, if power is not supplied to the digital rearview mirror device (120), the processor (1280) may be turned off. For example, when the vehicle ignition is turned off, power supply from the vehicle to the digital rearview mirror device (120) may be cut off. As another example, when the digital rearview mirror device (120) is turned off based on a user input through the input module (1210), power supply from the vehicle to the digital rearview mirror device (120) may be cut off.

[0119] Fig. 14 is a flowchart illustrating an operation method of a digital rear mirror device (120) according to a second embodiment.

[0120] Referring to FIG. 14, in step 1410, setting information may be registered in the digital rearview mirror device (120). For example, when the digital rearview mirror system (100) is initially installed in a vehicle, the processor (1280) may store arbitrary setting information in the memory (1270). Here, the processor (1280) may obtain arbitrary setting information from the digital rearview mirror device (120) through the interface module (1240). As another example, when the digital rearview mirror device (120) is manufactured, arbitrary setting information may be stored in the memory (1270).

[0121] Next, at step 1420, the digital rearview mirror device (120) may be turned on.

[0122] Next, at step 1430, the digital rearview mirror device (120) can receive a rearview image (210) from the camera device (110). Specifically, the processor (1280) can receive the rearview image (210) from the camera device (110) through the interface module (1240). Here, the rearview image (210) can have the resolution of the camera device (110). Here, the deserializer of the interface module (1240) can receive the rearview image (210) through the first channel. The deserializer of the interface module (1240) can convert the rearview image (210) from serial data to parallel data.

[0123] Next, in step 1440, the digital rearview mirror device (120) can detect a field of view image (220) from the rearview image (210). Specifically, the processor (1280) can detect the field of view image (220) from the rearview image (210) using the setting information of the memory (1270). The corrected image may be an image larger in size than the rearview image (210). The processor (1280) can detect only the field of view image (220) by setting only an area with a lot of information in the corrected image as an area of interest and cropping only the information of areas of no interest. Here, the field of view image (220) may have the resolution of the display area of the digital rearview mirror device (120). In addition, the field of view image (220) may have an arbitrary field of view. The arbitrary field of view may be an angle of view desired by the user. For example, as illustrated in FIG. 2, since the resolution of the display area of the digital rearview mirror device (120) is lower than the resolution of the camera device (110), the processor (1280) can divide the rearview image (210) into the field of view image (220) and the remaining image (230), and detect the field of view image (220) from the rearview image (210). Here, the processor (1280) can store the rearview image (210) or the field of view image (220) in the memory (1270).

[0124] Next, at step 1450, the digital rearview mirror device (120) can display a field of view image (220) in the display area. Specifically, the processor (1280) can display the field of view image (220) in the display area through the display module (1250). To this end, the processor (1280) can resize the field of view image (220) to the size of the display area.

[0125] Next, at step 1460, the digital rearview mirror device (120) can detect a request to change the setting information. Specifically, when a user input indicating the request is received from the user through at least one of the input module (1210), the sensor module (1220), and the communication module (1230), the processor (1280) can detect the request. In response, at step 1470, the digital rearview mirror device (120) can change the setting information of the memory (1270). Specifically, the processor (1280) can change the location of the field of view image (220) to be detected within the rear view image (210), i.e., the location of the setting area (320) within the entire area (310), among the setting information.

[0126] Next, in step 1480, if the digital rearview mirror device (120) is not turned off, the digital rearview mirror device (120) may repeatedly perform at least some of steps 1430 to 1470. Specifically, if the already registered or changed setting information has a viewing angle desired by the user, the processor (1280) may repeatedly perform only steps 1430 and 1450. The processor (1280) may continuously receive the rearview image (210) from the camera device (110), detect the viewing angle (220) from the rearview image (210), and display the viewing angle (220) through the display device (1250). At this time, if the setting information has been changed, the processor (1280) may detect the viewing angle (220) from the rearview image (210) using the changed setting information in step 1440. Meanwhile, if the already registered or changed setting information does not have the viewing angle desired by the user, the processor (1280) may repeatedly perform steps 1430 to 1450 as well as steps 1460 and 1470. The processor (1280) may additionally change the setting information in steps 1460 and 1470.

[0127] Meanwhile, at step 1480, the digital rearview mirror device (120) may be turned off. If a request to change the setting information is not detected at step 1460, the digital rearview mirror device (120) may be turned off. Alternatively, after changing the setting information at step 1470, the digital rearview mirror device (120) may be turned off. Specifically, if power is not supplied to the digital rearview mirror device (120), the processor (1280) may be turned off. For example, when the vehicle is turned off, power may be supplied from the vehicle to the digital rearview mirror device (120). As another example, when the digital rearview mirror device (120) is turned off based on a user input via the input module (1210), power may be supplied from the vehicle to the digital rearview mirror device (120).

[0128] According to the present disclosure, a digital rearview mirror device (120) can provide an unobstructed rearview view to a driver of a vehicle by displaying a field of view image (220) detected from a rearview image (210) of a vehicle captured by a camera device (110). According to the first embodiment, when the camera device (110) detects the field of view image (220) from the rearview image (210), the field of view image (220) is transmitted from the camera device (110) to the digital rearview mirror device (120), so that the transmission load between the digital rearview mirror device (120) and the camera device (110) can be reduced. This can lead to rational component selection in implementing a digital rearview mirror system, improvement of transmission noise between the digital rearview mirror device and the camera device, and increase of transmission power efficiency. According to the second embodiment, when the digital rearview mirror device (120) detects the field of view image (220) from the rearview image (210), the camera device (110) transmits the rearview image (220) to the digital rearview mirror device (120), so that the general camera device (110) can be used without modification. In addition, according to the present disclosure, the position of the field of view image (220) detected from the rearview image (210) can be adjusted based on a user input, so that the driver can be provided with a rearview view at a desired field of view. At this time, the driver can provide a user input while checking the change in the field of view in real time through the digital rearview mirror device (120), so that the desired field of view can be intuitively determined. This can lead to improved user convenience and stability when utilizing the digital rearview mirror system.

[0161]

[0162] Fig. 15 is a block diagram illustrating a vehicle (2000) equipped with a digital rearview mirror system (100) according to various embodiments. Fig. 16 is a block diagram illustrating a control device (2100) of the vehicle of Fig. 15.

[0163] Referring to FIGS. 15 and 16, a digital rearview mirror system (100) according to various embodiments may be mounted on a vehicle (2000), and the vehicle (2000) may include a control device (2100). In this case, the vehicle (2000) may be an autonomous vehicle. In some embodiments, at least one component of the camera device (110) or at least one component of the digital rearview mirror device (120) may be integrated into at least one component of the control device (2100).

[0164] The control device (2100) may include a controller (2120) including a memory (2122) and a processor (2124), a sensor (2110), a wireless communication device (2130), a LIDAR (2140), and a camera module (2150).

[0165] The controller (2120) may be configured by the vehicle manufacturer during manufacturing or may be additionally configured after manufacturing to perform autonomous driving functions. Alternatively, the controller (2120) configured during manufacturing may be configured to continuously perform additional functions through an upgrade.

[0166] The controller (2120) can transmit control signals to other components within the vehicle, such as a sensor (2110), an engine (2006), a user interface (UI) (2008), a wireless communication device (2130), a LIDAR (2140), and a camera module (2150). In addition, although not shown, the control signals can also be transmitted to an acceleration device, a braking system, a steering device, or a navigation device related to driving of the vehicle.

[0167] The controller (2120) can control the engine (2006), and for example, can detect the speed limit of the road on which the vehicle (2000) is driving and control the engine (2006) so that the driving speed does not exceed the speed limit, or control the engine (2006) so that the driving speed of the vehicle (2000) does not exceed the speed limit. In addition, when the sensing modules (2004a, 2004b, 2004c, 2004d) detect the environment outside the vehicle and transmit it to the sensor (2110), the controller (2120) receives it and generates a signal for controlling the engine (2006) or a steering device (not shown), thereby controlling the driving of the vehicle.

[0168] The controller (2120) can control the engine (2006) or the braking system to decelerate the vehicle when another vehicle or obstacle is present in front of the vehicle. In addition to the speed, the controller can also control the trajectory, driving path, and steering angle. Alternatively, the controller (2120) can control the driving of the vehicle by generating necessary control signals based on recognition information of the vehicle's driving lane, driving signals, and other external environmental information.

[0169] In addition to generating its own control signals, the controller (2120) can also control the driving of the vehicle by performing communication with surrounding vehicles or a central server and transmitting commands to control surrounding devices through the received information.

[0170] In addition, the controller (2120) may generate a control signal to control calibration of the camera module (2150) to prevent accurate vehicle or lane recognition when the position or angle of the camera module (2150) changes. Accordingly, the controller (2120) generates a calibration control signal to the camera module (2150), so that even if the mounting position of the camera module (2150) changes due to vibration or shock generated according to the movement of the autonomous vehicle (2000), the normal mounting position, direction, angle of view, etc. of the camera module (2150) can be continuously maintained. The controller (2120) may generate a control signal to perform calibration of the camera module (2120) when the pre-stored initial mounting position, direction, and angle of view information of the camera module (2120) and the initial mounting position, direction, and angle of view information of the camera module (2120) measured while the autonomous vehicle (2000) is driving differ by more than a threshold value.
