Abstract
Description
[0001] A NOVEL CARTRIDGE INJECTION SYSTEM COMPRISING A TOP PUSH BUTTON FOR INTRAOCULAR LENSES
[0002] TECHNICAL FIELD
[0003] The invention relates to a cartridge injection system in which deformations caused by lack of controlled folding and proper movement of intraocular lenses within the system are prevented during implantation and technical problems caused by contact with the coated area or lubricant materials are eliminated. By its innovative aspect, the invention relates to a cartridge injection system that incorporates arrangements that enable controlled folding of intraocular lenses during implantation and prevent contact with areas comprising areas coated or having lubricant materials.
[0004] PRIOR ART
[0005] Cartridge injector systems used in the implantation of intraocular lenses are designed as an injection system that facilitates the placement of intraocular lenses into the eye. These systems assist ophthalmologists during the surgical procedure and ensure precise placement of intraocular lenses. Cartridge injector systems consist of a sterile cartridge comprising intraocular lenses or an injection device. This cartridge contains a transfer and injection mechanism specifically designed to accommodate the intraocular lens. The ophthalmologist inserts the intraocular lens into the patient's eye using this cartridge injector system during the surgical procedure. The injector system holds the intraocular lens in the correct position and places it precisely. The cartridge injector system carries the lens compactly folded and allows the lens to open smoothly when inserted into the eye. In this way, a smaller incision can be made and a more controlled placement of the lens can be achieved.
[0006] There are a number of technical advantages provided by the curved structure of intraocular lenses in cartridge injection systems during the surgical procedure and implantation of the lens. The most important of the technical advantages mentioned are reduced surgical incision size, less impact on soft tissues, controlled opening of the lens, and faster and easier implantation. For these reasons, it is important to fold intraocular lenses in a controlled manner in cartridge injection systems. This makes the surgical procedures safer, more effective and patient-friendly. At the same time, it ensures that the lens is placed in the correct position and helps patients achieve better vision results. Research and development activities continue in the relevant technical field for the development of elements that provide controlled foldable properties of intraocular lenses in cartridge injection systems.
[0007] In cartridge injection systems, which are frequently used for the implantation of intraocular lenses in the relevant technical field, they start to fold during implantation via a piston and a trigger mechanism, and then, they are implanted in the eye in a folded state in the last part of the cartridge. In cartridge injection systems working in this way, the piston and the elements that trigger motion act on the jaw and other elements, providing the folding and the movement of the intraocular lenses for implantation at the same time. In cartridge injection systems with this working principle, technical problems may occur for the lenses, such as jamming in the edge areas during folding, deformations, scratches or irregularities when folding or transporting. These technical problems cause patients to not be able to get high optical quality from the lenses after the surgical operation.
[0008] Intraocular lenses are kept by being positioned in cartridge injection systems before and during implantation. During this waiting and implantation, scratches and / or deformations may occur in the optical center areas due to the contact of intraocular lenses with the elements of other cartridge injection systems. The optical center is the part in the center of the intraocular lens that provides clear vision. If the optical center is damaged, it may cause the vision to be unclear for the patient. In the art, there is a coated area adjacent to the bottom and / or side of the area where the intraocular lenses are located in cartridge injection systems. It has been determined that the optical centers of intraocular lenses should be prevented from coming into contact with this coated area.
[0009] In the relevant technical field, it has been determined that some technical configurations should be performed in cartridge injection systems in order to prevent deformations of intraocular lenses during positioning, folding and implantation in cartridge injection systems used for cataract surgical operations.
[0010] BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION Intraocular lenses used for the treatment of cataract surgeries are implanted into the eyes with cartridge injection systems. In the most commonly used cartridge injection systems, the elements that perform the folding of the intraocular lenses by the reactions of the piston and movement mechanisms provide both folding and movement at the same time. One of the problems encountered in the technical field is that in cartridge injection systems with this working principle, there may be jamming in the edge areas during folding for the implantation of the intraocular lenses, deformations, scratches or irregularities when folding or transporting. In this invention, studies are carried out on the controlled folding of intraocular lenses in order to eliminate these technical problems.
[0011] Another technical problem encountered in the technical field is the formation of deformations in the optical center areas due to the contact of intraocular lenses with the coated parts that facilitate their movement during implantation in cartridge injection systems. In this invention, it is aimed to eliminate the technical problems caused by the contact of intraocular lenses with the coated parts in cartridge injection systems.
[0012] In order to eliminate these technical problems, the cartridge injection system of the present invention comprises configurations in which controlled folding is achieved and the existing coated parts in the art are eliminated.

[0030] DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
[0031] In this detailed description, the subject of the invention relates to a cartridge injection system (10) for the implantation of intraocular lenses used in the treatment of cataract surgeries, and is explained only with examples that will not create any limiting effect for a better understanding of the subject.
[0032] The cartridge injection system (10) of the present invention is a system that comprises intraocular lenses (L) and provides intraocular lens (L) implantation by being used in surgical operations. The said cartridge injection system (10) comprises multiple elements that provide positioning, folding and implantation of intraocular lenses (L). Intraocular lenses (L) are folded with the cartridge injection system (10) and folded intraocular lenses (L) are implanted in surgical operations.
[0033] In order to provide all these features, the cartridge injection system (10) comprises a primary body and a secondary body. These two body parts can be attached to each other separately or consist of one piece. It comprises a piston that allows the intraocular lens (L) to pass through the cartridge channel by passing through the primary body with the thrust applied thereto for the implantation of the intraocular lens (L). With the pushing part at the tip of the piston, it enters the cylindrical hollow primary body and transfers the thrust applied thereon to the spring in the secondary body. In this way, the cartridge injection system (10) with a movement mechanism is curved from the part where the intraocular lens (L) is located and transmitted to the cartridge part and provides implantation into the eye.
[0034] A representative view of the cartridge injection system (10) of the present invention is shown as Fig. 1. Referring to Fig. 1 , the cartridge injection system (10) comprises a push button (12). The said push button (12) is located in the upper neighborhood of the cartridge injection system (10). At the same time, the push button (12) protrudes from the upper part of the cartridge injection system (10), while the lower part is mounted towards the inside of the cartridge injection system (10).
[0035] The push button (12) is in contact with the jaw (11 ), which performs the controlled folding of the intraocular lenses (L) during implantation in the cartridge injection system (10). Such that the jaw (11 ) has designs with the push button (12) depending on the geometric shape.
[0036] The push button (12) comprises an internal cavity (iB) that allows controlled folding of the intraocular lens (L) and the movement of the jaws depending on the geometric shape. On the push button (12), there is a right wall (121 ) and a left wall (122) that define the boundaries of the internal cavity (iB).
[0037] The push button (12) comprises a right contact area (123) and a left contact area (124) that allows the jaws (11 ) to stop while performing controlled folding.
[0038] In the cartridge injection system (10) of the present invention, there is controlled folding of the intraocular lenses (L) before implantation. To perform this operation, the person skilled in the art presses the push button (12) and the push button (12) moves towards the lower part of the body in the cartridge injection system (10) by x distance between the push button (12) and the body of the cartridge injection system (10). In the meantime, the right (111) and left ends (112) of the jaw, where the intraocular lenses (L) are located, are folded depending on the geometric shape thanks to the right wall (121 ) and left wall (122) located at the push button (12) and determining the boundaries of the internal cavity (iB), and after this folding from the right (111) and left ends (112) of the jaw, the intraocular lens (L) located therein is forced to fold. The movement thereof from the right (111) and left ends (112) of the jaw continues to the right contact area (123) and left contact area (124) on the push button (12). The intraocular lens (L) can be positioned in the internal cavity of the push button (12) remaining from the jaws (11 ) with the folding. The volume of the folded intraocular lens (L) in the internal cavity (i B) is preferably equivalent to the initial volume of the cartridge part to be implanted. Subsequently for implantation, the person skilled in the art ensures that the intraocular lens (L) located in the internal cavity (i B) of the push button (12) is transmitted to the cartridge part by providing movement via the piston and movement mechanisms in the cartridge injection system (10).
[0039] The push button (12) has an internal cavity (iB) to cover the right (111) and left end parts (112) of the jaw, as shown in Fig. 2. The end parts of the push button (12) from the lower part of the right (121 ) and left walls (122) and the upper parts of the right
[0040] (111 ) and left ends (112) of the jaw (11) are in contact. If controlled folding of the intraocular lens (L) is desired, the push button (12) moves downwards and the right (121 ) and left walls (122) thereof contact with the curved lateral regions of the right
[0041] (111 ) and left end parts (112) of the jaw (11 ), allowing the jaws to fold. There is a geometric shape that is suitable for the curved lateral surfaces of the right (111) and left ends (112) of the jaws (11) and narrows in a curved way from the lower part to the upper part, which is similar in geometric shape to the right (121) and left walls (122). In this way, the jaw (11 ) can move in the internal cavity to fold for the folding of the intraocular lenses (L).
[0042] In cartridge injection systems in the state of art, the coated area or lubricant materials are located on the lower and / or lateral parts of the body. The function of these areas or materials is to facilitate the movement of intraocular lenses (L) during implantation. However, intraocular lenses (L) remain in contact with the said area or materials before implantation and are in contact with these materials or areas during movement. This contact can cause deformations, scratches and blurring for intraocular lenses (L). The cartridge injection system (10) of the present invention comprises an arrangement in order to eliminate this technical disadvantage.
[0043] Referring to Fig. 3, it comprises a lens holder (13) to prevent intraocular lenses (L) from coming into contact with the coated area or lubricant materials before implantation. The said lens holder (13) is located within the push button (12) in a preferred embodiment. The lens holder (13) for holding the intraocular lens (L) at the right and left ends comprises at least two tabs (131) in the right and left regions, depending on the shape of the intraocular lens (L). These tabs (131) can hold the right and left ends of the intraocular lens (L) and position it elevated without contacting with the coated area or the body containing lubricant material.
[0044] The lens holder (13) comprises a lens holder chamber (125) so that it can be placed inside the push button (12). The lens holder (13) comprises recessed and protruding forms on the right and left lateral surfaces thereof in order to be movable within the said lens holder chamber (125).
[0045] The lens holder (13) has a reversible working principle with the push button (12). Such that, when the person skilled in the art presses the push button (12) for the implantation of the intraocular lens (L), the lens holder (13) releases the intraocular lens (L) and moves upwards in the lens holder chamber (125). This means that when the push button (12) is advanced downwards by x distance, the lens holder (13) moves up by x distance in the lens holder chamber (125). The forcing of the jaw to fold caused by the movement of the push button (12) and the movement of the lens holder (13) in the lens holder chamber (125) occur simultaneously. Accordingly, the person skilled in the art presses the push button (12) for the implantation of the intraocular lenses (L), the lens holder (13) releases the intraocular lens (L), and the folded jaw (11 ) performs the controlled folding for the intraocular lens (L).
[0046] As can be expected, the lens holder (13) has an internal cavity similar to the internal cavity (iB) on the push button (12), but this internal cavity (iB) is smaller than the internal cavity (iB) on the push button (12). Likewise, the height and width of the lens holder (13) are lower than that of the push button (12) due to the fact that it is mounted and movable on the inside of the push button (12). The position of the lens holder (13) on the push button (12) may coincide with the middle region of the push button (12) in a preferred embodiment, but more importantly, the lens holder is located in the upper neighborhood of the area where the intraocular lens (L) will be positioned for implantation in the cartridge injection system.
[0047] Contrary to the similar cartridge injection systems (10) in the state of art, the cartridge injection system (10) of the present invention provides controlled and uniform folding from the ends of the intraocular lenses (L) before implantation, thanks to the push button (12) therein. Subsequently, it performs the implantation of the folded intraocular lens (L) with the movement and piston mechanisms in the cartridge injection system (10). In this way, problems such as lack of simultaneous and controlled folding, deformation, scratching and blurring of intraocular lenses (L) encountered in the state of art can be prevented.
[0048] Compared to the similar cartridge injection systems (10) in the state of art, the cartridge injection system (10) of the present invention, thanks to the lens holder (13) therein, provides that the intraocular lens (L) can be positioned without contacting with the coated surfaces performed to facilitate implantation processes, while in motion before and during implantation. In this way, scratches and deformations that occur on the lens when it contacts with the coated area are prevented.
[0049] The protection scope of the invention is described in the appended claims and cannot be limited to what is described in this detailed description for illustrative purposes. It is clear that a person skilled in the art can present similar structures in the light of the above, without leaving the main scope of the invention.
