Description

[0001] A NOVEL CARTRIDGE INJECTION SYSTEM FOR INTRAOCULAR LENSES

[0002] TECHNICAL FIELD

[0003] The invention relates to a cartridge injection system comprising an assembly which provides the folding of intraocular lens fold, and a lens holder that allows the contact of the coated part and the lubricant materials to be prevented during implantation, in which the deformations of intraocular lenses are prevent and eliminate technical problems caused by contact of the coated part and lubricant materials.

[0004] PRIOR ART

[0005] Cartridge injector systems used in the implantation of intraocular lenses are designed as an injection system that facilitates the placement of intraocular lenses into the eye. These systems assist ophthalmologists during the surgical procedure and ensure precise placement of intraocular lenses. Cartridge injector systems consist of a sterile cartridge comprising intraocular lenses or an injection device. This cartridge contains a transfer and injection mechanism specifically designed to accommodate the intraocular lens. The ophthalmologist inserts the intraocular lens into the patient's eye using this cartridge injector system during the surgical procedure. The injector system holds the intraocular lens in the correct position and places it precisely. The cartridge injector system carries the lens compactly folded and allows the lens to open smoothly when inserted into the eye. In this way, a smaller incision can be made and a more controlled placement of the lens can be achieved.

[0006] There are a number of technical advantages provided by the controlled folding of intraocular lenses in cartridge injection systems during the surgical procedure and implantation of the lens. The most important of the technical advantages mentioned are reduced surgical incision size, less impact on soft tissues, controlled opening of the lens, and faster and easier implantation. For these reasons, it is important to fold intraocular lenses in a controlled manner in cartridge injection systems. This makes the surgical procedure safer, more effective and patient-friendly. At the same time, it ensures that the lens is placed in the correct position and helps patients achieve better vision results. Research and development activities continue in the relevant technical field for the development of elements that provide controlled foldable properties of intraocular lenses in cartridge injection systems.

[0007] In cartridge injection systems, which are frequently used for the implantation of intraocular lenses in the relevant technical field, they start to fold within the intraocular lens cartridge injection system via a piston and a trigger mechanism, and then, they are implanted into the eye in a folded state in the last part of the cartridge. In cartridge injection systems with this working principle, technical problems may occur for the lenses, such as jamming in the edge areas during folding, deformations, scratches or irregularities when folding or transporting. These technical problems cause patients to not be able to get high optical quality from the lenses after the surgical operation.

[0008] Intraocular lenses are kept by being positioned in cartridge injection systems before and during implantation. During this waiting and implantation, scratches and / or deformations may occur in the optical center areas due to the contact of intraocular lenses with the elements of other cartridge injection systems. The optical center is the part in the center of the intraocular lens that provides clear vision. If the optical center is damaged, it may cause the vision to be unclear for the patient. In the art, there is a coated area adjacent to the bottom and / or side of the area where the intraocular lenses are located in cartridge injection systems. It has been determined that the optical centers of intraocular lenses should be prevented from coming into contact with this coated area.

[0009] In the relevant technical field, it has been determined that some technical configurations should be performed in cartridge injection systems in order to prevent deformations of intraocular lenses during positioning, folding and implantation in cartridge injection systems used for cataract surgical operations.

[0010] BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

[0011] In the related technical field, intraocular lenses used for the treatment of cataract surgeries are implanted into the eyes with cartridge injection systems. One of the problems encountered in the technical field is that there may be jamming in the edge areas during folding for the implantation of the intraocular lenses, deformations, scratches or irregularities when folding or transporting. In this invention, studies are carried out on the controlled folding of intraocular lenses in order to eliminate these technical problems.

[0012] Another technical problem encountered in the technical field is the formation of deformations in the optical center areas due to the contact of intraocular lenses with the coated parts that facilitate their movement during implantation in cartridge injection systems. In this invention, it is aimed to eliminate the technical problems caused by the contact of intraocular lenses with the coated parts in cartridge injection systems.

[0013] In order to eliminate these technical problems, the cartridge injection system of the present invention comprises configurations in which controlled folding is achieved and the existing coated parts in the art are eliminated.

[0030] DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

[0031] In this detailed description, the subject of the invention relates to a cartridge injection system (10) for the implantation of intraocular lenses (L) used in the treatment of cataract surgeries, and is explained only with examples that will not create any limiting effect for a better understanding of the subject.

[0032] The cartridge injection system (10) of the present invention is a system that comprises intraocular lenses (L) and provides ocular lens implantation by being used in surgical operations. The said cartridge injection system (10) comprises multiple elements that provide positioning, folding and implantation of intraocular lenses (L). Intraocular lenses (L) are folded with the cartridge injection system (10) and folded intraocular lenses (L) are implanted in surgical operations.

[0033] In order to provide all these features, the cartridge injection system (10) comprises a primary body and a secondary body. These two body parts can be attached to each other separately or consist of one piece. It comprises a piston that allows the intraocular lens (L) to pass through the cartridge channel by passing through the primary body with the thrust applied thereto for the implantation of the intraocular lens (L). With the pushing part at the tip of the piston, it enters the cylindrical hollow primary body and transfers the thrust applied thereon to the spring in the secondary body. In this way, the cartridge injection system (10) with a movement mechanism is curved from the part where the intraocular lens (L) is located and transmitted to the cartridge part and provides implantation into the eye. A representative view of the cartridge injection system (10) of the present invention is shown as Fig. 1. Referring to Fig. 1 , the cartridge injection system (10) includes a right push button (1 1 ) and a left push button (12). Said right and left push buttons (11 , 12) are located to ensure that the intraocular lenses (L) located in the cartridge injection system (10) are folded in a controlled manner. There is a right push button (1 1 ) positioned on the right side of the cartridge injection system (10) and a left push button (12) positioned on the left side of the cartridge injection system in the direction in which it is held for implantation into the eye. The right and left push buttons (1 1 , 12) have similar technical designs and configurations and provide equivalent folding at the two ends of the intraocular lens (L), allowing controlled folding.

[0034] Fig. 2 shows a representative view of the right and left push buttons (1 1 , 12). Accordingly, both of the right and left push buttons (11 , 12) comprise a right intraocular lens placement area (11 1 ) and a left intraocular placement area (121 ) with a semicircular recess of a certain diameter, which allow the intraocular lenses (L) to be positioned at the ends thereof and to provide controlled folding. The right intraocular lens placement area (1 11 ) and the left intraocular lens placement area (121 ) form a full circle (TD) when applied for folding, allowing the intraocular lens (L) to remain in a folded position. The folded intraocular lens (L), which is located in the full circle (TD) formed, is then implanted into the eye with the piston and other movement mechanisms. Fig. 3 shows a representative view of the intraocular lens (L) placed in the right intraocular lens placement area (1 11 ) and left intraocular lens placement area (121 ), which allow intraocular lenses (L) to be placed on the right and left push buttons (1 1 , 12).

[0035] As can be expected, the right and left push buttons (11 , 12) are mounted on the cartridge injection system (10) from the right and left lateral regions to the right and left ends of the intraocular lens (L). By pressing the right and left push buttons (1 1 , 12) in the right and left lateral regions, the person skilled in the art allows the intraocular lenses (L) to be folded in the cartridge injection system (10) before implantation, and then the implantation process to be performed into the eye with the piston and other movement mechanisms. In order to eliminate the technical problems that the cartridge injection systems (10), which are frequently used in the art, will cause in the folding of the intraocular lenses (L) together with the other elements therein while they are in motion with the piston and other movement mechanisms, the present invention has an embodiment which enables first folding the intraocular lenses (L) and then implanting the folded intraocular lens (L).

[0036] Another embodiment of the cartridge injection system (10) of the present invention is the elimination of interaction with the coated parts of the intraocular lens (L) for easy implantation in surgical operations. To ensure this, referring to Fig. 4; the cartridge injection system (10) of the present invention comprises a lens holder (13). Deformations, scratches and distortions in the optical centers due to the contact of the intraocular lens (L) with the coated areas, which is one of the problems encountered in the state of art, can be eliminated by the lens holder.

[0037] Referring to Fig. 4, the lens holder (13) comprises at least two height tabs (131 ). Fig. 5 shows the positioning of the intraocular lens (L) placed in the lens holder (13). As can be seen in Fig. 4 and Fig. 5, the height tabs (131 ) comprise a protrusion where the intraocular lens (L) can be positioned, providing height from the lower part of the intraocular lens (L). Likewise, the protrusion at the lower part of the recess as an extension is another form that keeps the intraocular lens (L) high. The lens holder (13) is mounted on the turning chamber of the injector from the top. The lens holder (13) in the turning chamber ensures that the intraocular lens (L) is folded in the expected form, the intraocular lens (L) is cut off from the covered floor of the cartridge and maintained. The lens holder (13) does not comprise any viscoelastic or coating materials. In this way, it is ensured that the intraocular lens (L) does not come into contact with the coating or other implantation-facilitating materials before implantation, while it is positioned in the cartridge injection systems.

[0038] In the cartridge injection system (10) of the present invention, when the height tabs (131 ) in the lens holder (13) are considered as protrusions, the corresponding recesses are located in the protrusion form of the height tabs (131 ) on the right push button (11 ) and the left push button (12) in order for the intraocular lens (L) to be positioned both on the height tabs and on the right push button (11 ) and the left push button (12), as intended,

[0039] In the cartridge injection system (10) of the present invention, the intraocular lens (L) is positioned on the height tabs (131 ) located on the intraocular lens (L) holder, as characterized, and at the same time, the end parts of the intraocular lens (L) are placed in the right intraocular lens placement area (1 11 ) and the left intraocular lens placement area (121 ). When the implantation process is to be carried out, the person skilled in the art presses the right and left push buttons (11 , 12) to ensure that the intraocular lens (L) folds evenly, and with this folding, the intraocular lens (L) is released from the lens holder (13) and the right intraocular lens placement area (11 1 ) and the left intraocular lens placement area (121 ) located on the right and left push buttons (1 1 , 12) come together to form a full circle (TD) surrounding the folded intraocular lens (L). Then, in order to perform implantation, the person skilled in the art ensures that the intraocular lens (L) is advanced towards the eye of the patient by means of the piston and movement mechanisms in the cartridge injection system (10). With the right and left push buttons (11 , 12) pressed, the full circle formed by the right intraocular lens placement area (1 11 ) and the left intraocular lens placement area (121 ) is shown as Fig. 6.

[0040] Compared to the similar cartridge injection systems known in the art, the cartridge injection system (10) of the present invention prevents problems such as deformation, inability to fold simultaneously and scratches that occur in the lenses during the folding processes with movement, by being folded simultaneously and in a controlled way before implantation thanks to the right and left push buttons (1 1 , 12) therein.

[0041] Compared to the similar cartridge injection systems in the state of art, the cartridge injection system (10) of the present invention, thanks to the lens holder (13) therein, provides that the intraocular lens (L) can be positioned without contacting with the coated surfaces performed to facilitate implantation processes, while in motion before and during implantation. In this way, scratches and deformations that occur on the lens when it contacts with the coated area are prevented.

[0042] The protection scope of the invention is described in the appended claims and cannot be limited to what is described in this detailed description for illustrative purposes. It is clear that a person skilled in the art can present similar structures in the light of the above, without leaving the main scope of the invention.
