Abstract
Description
[0001] A CARTRIDGE INJECTOR SYSTEM WITH A NOVEL JAW STRUCTURE CONFIGURATION
[0002] TECHNICAL FIELD
[0003] The invention relates to a cartridge injector system with a new configuration of jaw structure that enables controlled folding of intraocular lenses during implantation and prevention of contact with the coated portions of their optical centers located in the cartridge area.
[0004] PRIOR ART
[0005] Cartridge injector systems used in the implantation of intraocular lenses are designed as an injection system that facilitates the placement of intraocular lenses into the eye. These systems assist ophthalmologists during the surgical procedure and ensure precise placement of intraocular lenses. Cartridge injector systems consist of a sterile cartridge comprising intraocular lenses or an injection device. This cartridge contains a transfer and injection mechanism specifically designed to accommodate the intraocular lens. The ophthalmologist inserts the intraocular lens into the patient's eye using this cartridge injector system during the surgical procedure. The injector system holds the intraocular lens in the correct position and places it precisely. The cartridge injector system carries the lens compactly folded and allows the lens to open smoothly when inserted into the eye. In this way, a smaller incision can be made and a more controlled placement of the lens can be achieved.
[0006] There are a number of technical advantages provided by the controlled folding of intraocular lenses in cartridge injection systems during the surgical procedure and implantation of the lens. The most important of the technical advantages mentioned are reduced surgical incision size, less impact on soft tissues, controlled opening of the lens, and faster and easier implantation. For these reasons, it is important to fold intraocular lenses in a controlled manner in cartridge injection systems. This makes the surgical procedure safer, more effective and patient-friendly. At the same time, it ensures that the lens is placed in the correct position and helps patients achieve better vision results. Research and development activities continue in the relevant technical field for the development of elements that provide controlled foldable properties of intraocular lenses in cartridge injection systems.
[0007] Intraocular lenses are kept by being positioned in cartridge injection systems before and during implantation. During this waiting and implantation, scratches and / or deformations may occur in the optical center areas due to the contact of intraocular lenses with the elements of other cartridge injection systems. The optical center is the part in the center of the intraocular lens that provides clear vision. If the optical center is damaged, it may cause the vision to be unclear for the patient. In the art, there is a coated area adjacent to the bottom and / or side of the area where the intraocular lenses are located in cartridge injection systems. It has been determined that the optical centers of intraocular lenses should be prevented from coming into contact with this coated area.
[0008] The patent with application No. 2015 / 11576 relates to a cartridge injector system developed for use in intraocular lens implantation, which provides lens transfer through a microsurgical incision made in the eye, and in its most basic form, folds the lens by holding the ends and allows it to be implanted in the eye in that form, as well as a cartridge injection system that includes a turning body that keeps the lens in a closed environment. The said cartridge comprises at least two jaws within the injection system with a gradually alternating inclined inner surface that hold the lens at both ends with its inwardly curved ends and bring the lens to a free position when open and folded position when closed.
[0009] In the relevant technical field, it has been determined that research and development activities should be carried out especially in order to prevent the contact of intraocular lenses with coated areas in order to fold them in a more controlled manner in cartridge injection systems and to eliminate the risk of deformation of their optical centers during waiting and implantation.
[0010] BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
[0011] Cartridge injection systems are systems configured and designed for easy and fast implantation of intraocular lenses into patients during surgical operations. These cartridge injection systems comprise elements for positioning, folding and implantation of intraocular lenses.
[0012] It is important that intraocular lenses are positioned in cartridge injection systems without deformation and implantation is performed with high efficiency during surgical operations. Otherwise, deformed intraocular lenses cannot perform healthy visual functions for patients.
[0013] In addition, there are technical solutions and advantages provided by the fact that intraocular lenses are in a folded position during implantation as it is known in the art. The most important of these are the reduction of surgical incision size, less impact on soft tissues, controlled opening of the lens, and faster and easier implantation. For this reason, studies are carried out to make the necessary configurations for the intraocular lenses to be in a controlled folded state in cartridge injection systems.
[0014] The present invention provides a cartridge injection system in which controlled folding of intraocular lenses is carried out in order to eliminate the mentioned technical disadvantages and to provide technical solutions and advantages for the relevant technical field.
[0015] In addition, the present invention provides a cartridge injection system in which intraocular lenses are positioned without deformation in cartridge injection systems and implantation is performed during surgical operations.

[0027] DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
[0028] In this detailed description, the subject of the invention relates to a cartridge injection system (10) for intraocular lenses for use in cataract surgery, and is described only with examples that will not create any limiting effect for a better understanding of the subject.
[0029] The cartridge injection system (10) of the present invention is a system that provides intraocular lens implantation in the eye by using it in surgical operations. The said cartridge injection system (10) comprises multiple elements that provide accommodation, folding and implantation of intraocular lenses. Intraocular lenses are folded with the cartridge injector system (10) and folded intraocular lenses are implanted in surgical operations.
[0030] In order to provide all these features, the cartridge injection system (10) comprises a primary body and a secondary body. These two body parts can be attached to each other separately or consist of one piece. It comprises a piston that allows the lens to pass through the cartridge channel by passing through the primary body with the thrust applied thereto for the implantation of the intraocular lens. With the pushing part at the tip of the piston, it enters the cylindrical hollow primary body and transfers the thrust applied thereon to the spring in the secondary body. The secondary body has a smaller diameter than the primary body and the wall height gradually decreases towards the tip and turns into a crescent form. The upper part of the secondary body is open and allows the assembly of system parts. In one embodiment of the invention, the turning body and cushion are mounted on the secondary body, and the safety locking part is mounted on the turning body. The top of this secondary body is open for manual intervention of the assembled parts from the outside. The surface of the upper part of the secondary body, where the parts are mounted, is also stepped. The upper section, on which the silicone cushion is mounted, is positioned higher than the surface on which the turning body is mounted.
[0031] Another critical element for the cartridge injection system (10) is the jaw (11 ). The jaw (11 ) is located in the cartridge injection system (10) to hold the intraocular lens at both ends with its inwardly curved ends, to ensure that the intraocular lens is in a free position when it is open and the intraocular lens is in a curved position when it is closed. When the turning body is free, the ellipse geometry inside is in the form of a horizontal ellipse. Accordingly, the spring geometries in the inner part also occupy a large space horizontally and the jaws (11) extend above this geometry. With the turning motion, the ellipse geometry in the inner part becomes vertical, and the area where the jaws (11 ) are located becomes narrower. The narrowed area forces the jaws (11) to close and thus the intraocular lens to be folded. The tip of the jaws (11 ) curves inwards to hold both ends of the intraocular lens. When the jaws (11) are open, they are kept horizontally free in the lens. As the jaws (11 ) close, the intraocular lens is held at both ends and curved. In one embodiment of the invention, when the jaws (11) are closed and the intraocular lens is folded, the turning lever rests at a right angle to the secondary body.
[0032] The subject of the present invention is the realization of configurations for the controlled folding of intraocular lenses in cartridge injection systems (10) and to prevent contact with the elements that cause deformation of their optical centers.
[0033] The present inventors perform configurations in the structures of the jaw elements in the cartridge injection system (10) for the mentioned technical solutions. The innovative aspect of the invention is based on the arrangements performed in the jaw (11) element.
[0034] Accordingly, in the present invention, the jaw (11) comprises an upper bearing (111 ) and a lower bearing (112) in its inner part, that is, towards the area where the intraocular lens is positioned. The said upper bearing (111) and the said lower bearing (112) join each other at one point. In accordance with the geometric shape of the intraocular lens, the upper bearing (111 ) and lower bearing (112) have a geometrically curved shape. In this way, the intraocular lens will move in the jaws (11) in accordance with the geometry of the shape and eliminate the possibility of deformation.
[0035] The lower bearing (112) and the upper bearing (111 ) have a symmetrical structure with respect to the x-axis in the coordinate system to each other. The lower bearing (112) and the upper bearing (111) are in the form of a kind of hole that curves towards the inside of the jaws (11) so that the intraocular lens can be positioned depending on the geometric shape within the jaws (11 ).
[0036] The upper bearing (111) comprises an abutment area (1111) so that the intraocular lens can be positioned higher than the coated area in the cartridge injection system and controlled folding can be achieved during implantation. The said abutment area (1111) is representatively shown in Figs. 2 and 3. Referring to Fig. 3, the abutment area (1111) has a structure that is determined as the area where the tip of the intraocular lens will be positioned, which is curved in accordance with the curved shape of the intraocular lens from the tip to the center, whose configuration can be noticed from the upper bearing (11 ), and which protrudes from the upper bearing (111) at a certain volume. The abutment area (1111), by curving towards the lower part of the intraocular lens, contacts the lower part of the intraocular lens from the curved area and ensures that it remains above the coated area (12) at a certain distance. In this way, the optical center area of the intraocular lens does not contact with the coated area (12) of the cartridge injection system (10) during folding, thus eliminating problems such as deformation and contact with the coating area.
[0037] The lower bearing (112) has a structure that is located in the lower neighborhood of the upper bearing (111 ) and is curved depending on the symmetry shape with respect to the x-axis in the coordinate system similar to the curvature of the upper bearing (111 ). The lower bearing (112) is configured for controlled folding of the intraocular lens during implantation. To achieve this, the lower bearing (112) includes a contact area (1121). The contact area (1121 ), similar to the abutment area (1111) located in the upper bearing (12), is the part where the intraocular lens forms a support from its lower part in accordance with its curved structure from the tip to the center. The intraocular lens, which contacts with the abutment area (1121 ) in its curved lower part, can be folded in a controlled manner depending on its shape during folding. The contact area (1121) has a symmetrically curved configuration with respect to the x-axis in the coordinate system, preferably with respect to the abutment area (1111 ).
[0038] In a preferred embodiment, the contact and abutment areas (1121 , 1111) have a length and height that is at least appropriate to the diameter of the intraocular lens.
[0039] According to what is described here, in the cartridge injection system (10) of the present invention, the upper bearing (111 ) has a structure that comprises an abutment area (1111) that allows the intraocular lens to be held from the right and left end parts by providing height, and a curved internal recess for the controlled folding of the intraocular lens during implantation and for the disconnection with the lower part of the cartridge injection system. In addition, the lower bearing (112) comprises a contact area (1121) as a curved inner recess of a geometric shape from the tip to the optical center in accordance with the curved structure of the intraocular lens, and accordingly, thanks to its other curved structure, it enables controlled folding during implantation.
[0040] Compared to similar cartridge injection systems in the art, the cartridge injection system (10) of the present invention enables controlled folding of the intraocular lenses during implantation thanks to the lower bearing (112) and the upper bearing (111) configured in the jaw (11 ) element and at the same time, thanks to the abutment area (1111) located on the upper bearing (111 ), it has arrangements that prevent contact with the coated area (12) located at the bottom of the cartridge injection systems (10) and thus, eliminate the technical problems experienced in cases where deformations and controlled folding of the intraocular lenses do not occur.
[0041] In the cartridge injection system (10), the coated area (12) comprising the coating material is located for easy progression during the implantation of intraocular lenses at the bottom of the body. Thanks to the jaw (11 ) configured in the invention, the contact of the intraocular lens with this coated area (12), which comprises pre-implantation coating material, can be prevented. In addition, thanks to the upper bearing (111) and the lower bearing (112), controlled folding is carried out and the optical center of the intraocular lens can be prevented from contacting this coated area (12) during implantation. The protection scope of the invention is described in the appended claims and cannot be limited to what is described in this detailed description for illustrative purposes. It is clear that a person skilled in the art can present similar structures in the light of the above, without leaving the main scope of the invention.
