Abstract
Description
PROPYLENE COMPOSITE MATERIAL COMPOSITION AND MOLDED ARTICLE USING THE SAME
[0001] The present disclosure relates to a propylene composite material composition and a molded article using the same. More particularly, the present disclosure relates to a propylene composite material composition which is recycled from a waste raw material and a molded article using the same.
[0002] Polypropylene is being used in a wide variety of fields such as disposable food containers, fibers, and molded articles. However, as polypropylene usage increases, an amount of waste produced after use increases, and waste disposal is also problematic.
[0003] Since recycled polypropylene (r-PP) recovered from wastes causes low performance in mechanical properties and optical properties as compared with virgin polypropylene, its recycling is limited. In addition, since recycled polypropylene includes an additive, it is difficult to adjust the physical properties of a product during recycling.
[0004] However, as the carbon reduction policy is promoted recently, in order to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, studies for reusing polypropylene wastes as a recycled raw material are in progress.
[0005] Korean Patent Registration No. 10-0088329 (August 25, 1995) discloses an inner tub composition for a washing machine which is injected by a drug master batch in which 2-metacarbonyl aminobenzimidazole and a polypropylene carrier are mixed, as a composition when injected into a washing machine inner tub. However, a study for applying recycled polypropylene has not been attempted. When the recycled polypropylene is applied, it is difficult to express the same physical properties as before, and thus, it has not been attempted yet, but a study of applying recycled polypropylene is needed according to the carbon reduction policy.

[0036] Hereinafter, the present disclosure will be described in more detail. However, it is only illustrative and the present disclosure is not limited to the specific embodiments which are illustratively described in the present disclosure.
[0037] In addition, unless otherwise defined, all technical terms and scientific terms have the same meanings as those commonly understood by one of those skilled in the art to which the present disclosure pertains. The terms used herein are only for effectively describing a certain specific example, and are not intended to limit the present invention.
[0038] In addition, the singular form used in the specification and claims appended thereto may be intended to include a plural form also, unless otherwise indicated in the context.
[0039] In addition, unless particularly described to the contrary, "comprising" any elements will be understood to imply further inclusion of other elements rather than the exclusion of any other elements.
[0040] In addition, unless particularly defined, when a layer or member is positioned "on" another layer or member, not only the layer or member is in contact with another layer or member, but also another layer or member exists between two layers or two members.
[0041] In addition, when unique manufacture and material allowable errors are suggested in the mentioned meaning, "about" "substantially", and the like are used as the meaning of the numerical value or as the meaning close to the numerical value, and are used for preventing the disclosure mentioning a correct or absolute numerical value for better understanding of the present disclosure from being unfairly used by an unconscionable infringer.
[0042] In the present disclosure, a natural frequency of bending mode is measured according to the measurement method described later, and is a measure showing a noise reduction effect and vibration resistance of the propylene composite material composition according to an embodiment of the present disclosure.
[0043] In the present disclosure, "recycled polypropylene (r-PP)" is polypropylene used as a raw material of a propylene composite material composition, and means waste polypropylene recovered from wastes, which is distinguished from virgin polypropylene. For example, it is classified into post-consumer polypropylene or pre-consumer polypropylene depending on whether a final consumer has used the recycled polypropylene, and the post-consumer polypropylene means wastes discarded after use by consumers and the pre-consumer polypropylene means by-products such as a scrap produced when producing a product in a plant. As an example, it may be any one or a mixture of two or more selected from the group consisting of a film recycled raw material, a sheet recycled raw material, a non-woven fabric recycled raw material, a fiber recycled raw material, a packaging container recycled raw material, a household item recycled raw material, an electronic product recycled raw material, an industrial part recycled raw material, an automobile recycled raw material, a factory scrap, and the like.
[0044] In the present disclosure, "virgin polypropylene" refers to polypropylene which has not been used.
[0045] An embodiment of the present disclosure may provide a composite material which uses a combination of certain components and has excellent mechanical properties, a noise reduction effect, and vibration resistance, in spite of the use of the recycled polypropylene.
[0046] An embodiment of the present disclosure provides a propylene composite material composition having vibration resistance including: fiber reinforced polypropylene in which a fiber reinforcing material and first virgin polypropylene are mixed, recycled polypropylene, and second virgin polypropylene, wherein the propylene composite material composition includes 15 wt% or more of the recycled polypropylene and may use 15 wt% or more and 30 wt% or more or any range between the numerical values, for example, 15 to 30 wt%, 15 to 25 wt%, or 15 to 20 wt% of the fiber reinforcing material, of the total content.
[0047] In addition, the propylene composite material composition may have a first natural frequency of bending mode is 140 to 160 Hz and a second natural frequency of bending mode is 580 to 600 Hz, as measured according to the measurement method of the natural frequency of bending mode described later. Without limitation, by satisfying the range, an effect of mechanical strength and noise reduction may be achieved when applying the composition to home appliances or automobile parts.
[0048] That is, the propylene composite material composition of the present disclosure may use 15 wt% or more, 20 wt% or more, 50 wt% or more and 40 wt% or less, 30 wt% or less, or any range between the numerical values of the recycled polypropylene. In order to satisfy the natural frequency even with the content of the recycled polypropylene described above, it is preferred to add the fiber reinforced polypropylene so that the content of the fiber reinforcing material is 15 to 30 wt% of the total content of the composition.
[0049] The fiber reinforced polypropylene may be produced by pultrusion processing the first virgin polypropylene and the fiber reinforcing material and then cutting. The pultrusion process may produce a pellet by impregnating the first virgin polypropylene between multi-strand fiber reinforcing materials and on the surface while pultruding multi-strand fiber reinforcing materials in one direction. When it is produced by the method, the length of the fiber reinforcing material may be maintained to be long as compared with the case of cutting the fiber reinforcing material and mixing it with the first virgin polypropylene, which is 10 mm or more, for example, 10 to 15 mm, and is preferred since mechanical strength may be further improved, but the present disclosure is not limited thereto.
[0050] In addition, the production method is not limited in addition to the pultrusion process, as long as the fiber reinforcing material having a length of 10 mm or more may be mixed.
[0051] In addition, the fiber reinforced polypropylene may further include a compatibilizer for further improving miscibility between the first virgin polypropylene and the fiber reinforcing material, if necessary. For example, an anhydride-grafted polyolefin-based resin and the like may be used. For example, an anhydrous maleic acid-grafted polypropylene (maleic anhydride-PP) and the like may be used, but the present disclosure is not limited thereto.
[0052] The fiber reinforcing material is not limited, but glass fiber, carbon fiber, and the like may be used.
[0053] The first virgin polypropylene is not limited, but may be polypropylene having a melt index (MI) of 100 g / 10 min or more, for example, 100 to 200 g / 10 min, as measured at 230 ℃, 2.16 kg in accordance with ASTM D1238. The first virgin polypropylene may be any one selected from homopolypropylene, highly crystalline polypropylene (HCPP), and polypropylene-based copolymers or a mixture thereof, but is not limited thereto.
[0054] In an embodiment, the first virgin polypropylene may be polypropylene processed by adding a peroxide to a homopolypropylene to have an MI of about 100 to 200 g / 10 min. The range may be appropriate since the physical properties are expressed, but is not limited thereto.
[0055] The fiber reinforced polypropylene may include 50 to 70 wt% of the fiber reinforcing material and 30 to 50 wt% of the first virgin polypropylene, and is not limited thereto, but within the range, it may be advantageous for the content of the fiber reinforcing material in the propylene composite material composition being 15 to 30 wt%. In addition, if necessary, 1 to 5 wt% of a compatibilizer of the total weight of the fiber reinforced polypropylene may be included, but the present disclosure is not limited thereto.
[0056] When the fiber reinforced polypropylene is produced, after pultrusion process, the length may be, though is not limited, cut into a size of 10 mm or more, 10 to 50 mm, 10 to 30 mm, 10 to 20 mm, or 10 to 15 mm to produce a pellet. The length of the fiber reinforcing material is determined as the cut length in the pellet production, and the noise and the vibration resistance of the propylene composite material composition may be affected by the length of the fiber reinforcing material. Without limitation, the propylene composite material composition having a first natural frequency of bending mode in a range of 140 to 160 Hz and a second natural frequency of bending mode in a range of 580 to 600 Hz, which is intended, may be produced by producing the fiber reinforcing material having the length.
[0057] In an embodiment, the propylene composite material composition may satisfy all of the physical properties of a tensile strength in accordance with ASTM D638 of 800 to 1100 kgf / cm2, a flexural modulus in accordance with ASTM D790 of 40,000 to 50,000 kgf / cm2, an Izod impact strength in accordance with ASTM D256 of 9 to 15 kgf.cm / cm, and a heat deformation temperature in accordance with ASTM 648 of 155 to 170 ℃. Without limitation, the mechanical properties may be provided when the composition is applied to home appliances, automobile parts, and the like in a range satisfying all of the physical properties.
[0058] In an embodiment, the recycled polypropylene may be, though is not limited thereto, any one or a mixture of two or more selected from the group consisting of a film recycled raw material, a sheet recycled raw material, a non-woven fabric recycled raw material, a fiber recycled raw material, a packaging container recycled raw material, a household item recycled raw material, an electronic product recycled raw material, an industrial part recycled raw material, an automobile recycled raw material, a factory scrap, and the like.
[0059] In addition, the recovered polypropylene may be produced into a pellet and used in order to improve miscibility with other raw materials.
[0060] The recycled polypropylene may use, though is not limited thereto, a post-consumer recycled raw material or a pre-consumer recycled raw material. In addition, a factory scrap and the like may be used. As such, by using reused or recycled raw material, resource circulation and carbon emission reduction effects may be provided.
[0061] Herein, without limitation, from the point of view of achieving the intended effect in the present disclosure, an inorganic content in the recycled polypropylene may be 0.5 wt% or less, for example, more than 0 and 0.5 wt% or less. That is, no inorganic material is more preferred, but when an inorganic material is included, a range of 0.5 wt% or less is preferred. The inorganic material may be inorganic particles which is added in the production of a film or sheet, and for example, may be CaCO3, talc, TiO2, or the like, but is not limited thereto. When the inorganic content is included at 0.5 wt% or less in the recycled polypropylene, it was confirmed that the recycled polypropylene may be used at 15 wt% or more, 20 wt% or more and 50 wt% or less, 30 wt% or less, or in any range between the numerical values of the total composition, and though the recycled polypropylene is included at the content, it was confirmed that mechanical properties and a vibration resistance effect may be achieved.
[0062] The inorganic content may be measured using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Measurement conditions may be measured by heating from room temperature to 900 ℃, and an organic material having a low vaporization temperature is volatilized and only an inorganic material remains, and the weight of the remaining inorganic material may be confirmed to figure out the content of the inorganic material in the total compound.
[0063] The recycled polypropylene may have, without limitation, a density in accordance with ASTM D792 of 0.89 to 0.92 g / cm3. In addition, without limitation, the flexural modulus in accordance with ASTM D790 may be 11,000 kgf / cm2or more, for example, 11,000 to 20,000 kgf / cm2, 11,000 to 17,000 kgf / cm2, or 11,000 to 15,000 kgf / cm2. In addition, without limitation, the Izod impact strength in accordance with ASTM D256 may be 2 kgf.cm / cm or more, for example, 2 to 15 kgf.cm / cm, 2 to 13 kgf.cm / cm, 2 to 10 kgf.cm / cm, 2 to 8 kgf.cm / cm, 2 to 5 kgf.cm / cm, or 2 to 4 kgf.cm / cm. By satisfying the range, the mechanical properties and the vibration resistance of the final propylene composite material may be achieved in the intended range.
[0064] In an embodiment, the first virgin polypropylene and the second virgin polypropylene may be the same as or different from each other. Though they are not limited, the first virgin polypropylene and the second virgin polypropylene may be used without limitation as long as they are a propylene-based resin commonly used in the art, such as homopolypropylene, highly crystalline polypropylene (HCPP), and a polypropylene-based copolymer.
[0065] In an embodiment, the first virgin polypropylene may be homopolypropylene, and the second virgin polypropylene may be highly crystalline polypropylene (HCPP). Without limitation, the propylene composite material composition may include fiber reinforced polypropylene in which a fiber reinforcing material and homopolypropylene are mixed, recycled polypropylene, and highly crystalline polypropylene (HCPP). By using a combination of these components, the intended effects may be all achieved.
[0066] In an embodiment, the homopolypropylene may have an MI of 100 g / 10 min or more, for example, 100 to 200 g / 10 min as measured at 230 ℃, 2.16 kg in accordance with ASTM D1238, but is not limited thereto. Within the range, the maximum content of the fiber reinforcing material is used to produce the fiber reinforced polypropylene, but is not limited thereto. In addition, the density may be 0.89 to 0.92 g / cm2, and is not limited thereto. In addition, the flexural modulus may be 10,000 kgf / cm2or more, for example, 10,000 to 20,000 kgf / cm2, 12,000 to 18,000 kgf / cm2, 15,000 to 16,000 kgf / cm2, but is not limited thereto. In addition, the Izod impact strength may be 2 kgf.cm / cm or more, for example, 2 to 6 kgf.cm / cm, 3 to 6 kgf.cm / cm, or 4 to 5 kgf.cm / cm, but is not limited thereto. By using homopolypropylene satisfying all of the physical properties, physical properties satisfying mechanical strength and bending frequency may be provided, but the present disclosure is not limited thereto.
[0067] In an embodiment, the highly crystalline polypropylene (HCPP) may be, for example, homo HCPP, but is not limited thereto. In an example, the density in accordance with ASTM D792 may be 0.89 to 0.92 g / cm3, and the flexural modulus in accordance with ASTM D790 may be 15,000 kgf / cm2or more, 20,000 kgf / cm2or more, for example, 15,000 to 25,000 kgf / cm2, 20,000 to 25,000 kgf / cm2, or 21,000 to 22,000 kgf / cm2. In addition, the Izod impact strength in accordance with ASTM D256 may be 2 kgf.cm / cm or more, for example, 2 to 6 kgf.cm / cm, or 2 to 4 kgf.cm / cm. Without limitation, when the second virgin polypropylene satisfying the range is used, the intended effect may be achieved even with the use of 15 wt% or more of the recycled polypropylene, which is thus preferred, but is not limited thereto.
[0068] In an embodiment, the second virgin polypropylene may be a mixture of two or more from the point of view of facilitating the adjustment of the physical properties of the final propylene composite material composition. For example, a mixture of two or more highly crystalline polypropylenes having different melt indexes from each other may be used. For example, a mixture of a resin having a melt index of 3 to 6 g / 10 min, a resin having a melt index of 15 to 25 g / 10 min, a resin having a melt index of 40 to 50 g / 10 min, and the like may be used, and the ratio may be adjusted.
[0069] In an embodiment, the propylene composite material composition may include 25 to 40 wt% of the fiber reinforced polypropylene including 50 to 70 wt% of the fiber reinforcing material, 15 to 30 wt% of the recycled polypropylene, and 30 to 60 wt% of the second virgin polypropylene. Since the mixture is mixed in the content range, the intended effect may be achieved.
[0070] In an embodiment, the propylene composite material composition may further include an additive available in the art, if necessary. For example, any one or two or more additives selected from a compatibilizer, a releasing agent, an antibacterial agent, an antioxidant, a UV stabilizer, a heat stabilizer, and the like may be further included.
[0071] Another embodiment of the present disclosure provides a molded article using the propylene composite material composition.
[0072] The molded article may be applied to various fields requiring a noise and vibration reduction effect and mechanical strength, and may be, for example, a washing machine tub, and the like. Besides, it may be applied to various field such as home appliances, industrial parts, building parts, household items, or automobiles parts.
[0073] Another embodiment of the present disclosure provides a method of producing a propylene composite material composition having vibration resistance.
[0074] As an example, the method includes blending a fiber reinforced polypropylene produced by pultrusion processing a first virgin polypropylene and a fiber reinforcing material and then cutting, recycled polypropylene, and a second virgin polypropylene to produce a propylene composite material composition having vibration resistance; wherein the propylene composite material composition includes 15 wt% or more of the recycled polypropylene and 15 to 30 wt% of the fiber reinforcing material of the total content of the composition.
[0075] As an example, the fiber reinforced polypropylene may be produced by impregnating the first virgin polypropylene while drawing multi-strand fiber reinforcing material using a plurality of rollers, or coating the first virgin polypropylene to produce a pellet form. As such, since the production is performed with the fiber reinforcing material being aligned in one direction the pultrusion process, a viscosity increase of the composition when each component is mixed for producing the propylene composite material composition may be prevented, and miscibility of each component may be further improved, and thus, the content of the fiber reinforcing material of 15 wt% or more, for example, 15 to 30 wt% may be added.
[0076] Though it is not excluded to perform production by cutting the fiber reinforcing material into short fibers which are mixed with the first virgin polypropylene, in this case, there may be a difficulty in including the content of the fiber reinforcing material of 15 wt% or more when the propylene composite material composition is produced. In this case, when the physical properties of the first virgin polypropylene or the second virgin polypropylene are adjusted for adjusting miscibility, the mechanical properties or the vibration resistance of the total propylene composite material composition may not achieve the intended physical properties.
[0077] The content of the fiber reinforcing material in the fiber reinforced polypropylene may be 50 wt% or more, 55 wt% or more, 60 wt% or more, 65 wt% or more, 70 wt% or more, 80 wt% or less, 75 wt% or less, or any value between the numerical values. For example, it may be 50 to 80 wt% or 60 to 70 wt%. Within the range, the content of the fiber reinforcing material in the propylene composite material composition may be 15 to 30 wt%, and when the content of the fiber reinforcing material satisfies the range, a natural frequency as well as mechanical strength may satisfy the intended physical properties.
[0078] In an embodiment, the fiber reinforced polypropylene may be produced by pultrusion processing homopolypropylene having an MI of 100 g / 100 min or more, for example, 100 to 200 g / 100 min, as measured at 230 ℃, 2.16 kg in accordance with ASTM D1238 and glass fiber and then cutting. Without limitation, the length of glass fiber which is the fiber reinforcing material may be adjusted by cutting it into a length of 10 mm or more, 10 to 50 mm, 10 to 30 mm, or 10 to 15 mm, and within the range, it is preferred for satisfying the mechanical strength and the vibration resistance to be intended in the range, but the present disclosure is not limited thereto.
[0079] In an embodiment, the recycled polypropylene may use a recycled material having a small foreign matter content, that is, a small inorganic content, for example, an inorganic content of 0.5 wt% or less. For example, a recycled raw material such as a film or a sheet, a factory scrap, and the like may be used. It is advantageous that the inorganic content in the recycled polypropylene is 0.5 wt% or less for achieving the mechanical properties and the vibration resistance to be intended, but is not limited thereto.
[0080] The second virgin polypropylene is used for complementing the physical properties of the fiber reinforced polypropylene and the recycled polypropylene, and may be any one selected from homopolypropylene, highly crystalline polypropylene (HCPP), and polypropylene-based copolymers, or a mixture thereof, but is not limited thereto.
[0081] In an embodiment, a process of blending the fiber reinforced polypropylene, the recycled polypropylene, and the second virgin polypropylene may be usually any method without limitation as long as it is a method of mixing for producing a molded article by extrusion or injection, and for example, may be mixing using a dry blender and the like, but is not limited thereto.
[0082] In an embodiment, in order to produce the propylene composite material composition by blending and then produce a molded article, injection may be performed. The injection is not limited as long as it is a common injection method, and may be molding through a common injection molding machine. Without limitation, it may be injection molding using an injection molding machine equipped with a hopper, at least one of injection section, and a nozzle heater.
[0083] Without limitation, a mold temperature may be 30 to 60 ℃, an injection temperature may be 200 to 250 ℃, and a temperature of the nozzle heater may be 220 to 250 ℃, and an injection pressure may be 600 to 1,000 bar, a back pressure may be 50 to 100 bar, and a hold pressure may be 200 to 550 bar. Though the present disclosure is not limited to the range, when the injection molding is performed within the range, moldability and flowability are excellent, and injection defects such as unmolding may be prevented.
[0084] Hereinafter, the present disclosure will be described in more detail, based on the examples and the comparative examples. However, the following examples and comparative examples are only an example for describing the present disclosure in more detail, and do not limit the present disclosure in any way.
[0085] The physical properties were evaluated as follows.
[0086] [Measurement of natural frequency]
[0087] A specimen was prepared according to ASTM D638, and the size of the specimen is shown in FIG. 1.
[0088] The specimen was mounted in the center of a triangle shaped step latter, as shown in FIG. 2. A mounting method is fixing a rubber band having a length of 20 cm at the center point spaced 82.5 mm apart from both ends of the specimen using an instant adhesive and tying the rubber band in the center of the ladder to fix the rubber band.
[0089] The height at which the specimen was suspended was 0.9 m from the bottom for the total height of 2 m.
[0090] As shown in FIG. 3, a total of 3 points, that is, two points spaced 5 mm apart from both ends of the specimen and a center point spaced 82.5 mm apart from the end were designated as a position to attach an acceleration sensor. The acceleration sensor was attached to the point for attaching the acceleration sensor using wax.
[0091] A natural frequency measurement device (SpectraDAQ, LMS Fronted Mobile 05) and a software (SpectraDAQ, LMS Test.Lab) were used to measure a natural frequency of bending mode.
[0092] A vibrating percentile was entered into a software, and then vibration was performed three times on an area to which a right sensor was attached using an impact hammer. The reason for performing vibration three times is for reliability, and the average value was confirmed.
[0093] The used impact hammer was as follows:
[0094] 1) PCB, Model: 086D05
[0095] 2) Sensitivity: 0.23 mV / N, measurement range: 22,000 N
[0096] 3) Maximum frequency range: ~5,000 Hz
[0097] 4) Hammer weight: 0.32 kg, hammer diameter: 2.5 cm, hammer length: 22.7 cm, tip diameter: 0.63 cm, tip material: epoxy
[0098] Next, a frequency response function (FRF curve) and a mode shape were compared to confirm first and second natural frequencies of bending mode.
[0099] [Tensile strength]
[0100] Tensile strength was evaluated in accordance with ASTM D638.
[0101] [Flexural modulus]
[0102] Flexural modulus was evaluated in accordance with ASTM D790.
[0103] [Izod impact strength]
[0104] Izod impact strength was evaluated in accordance with ASTM D256.
[0105] [Heat deformation temperature]
[0106] Heat deformation temperature was evaluated in accordance with ASTM D648.
[0107] [Density]
[0108] Density was evaluated in accordance with ASTM D792.
[0109] [Melt index (MI)]
[0110] Melt index was evaluated at 230 ℃, 2.16 kg in accordance with ASTM D1238.
[0111] [Inorganic content]
[0112] An inorganic content was measured with thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). In the measurement conditions, under a nitrogen atmosphere, heating was performed from room temperature to 900 ℃ at a heating rate of 10 ℃ / min, and a weight of inorganic material remaining after volatilization of an organic material having a low vaporization temperature was confirmed to calculate the inorganic content in the total compound.
[0113] [Example 1]
[0114] A propylene composite material composition was produced by mixing the composition as shown in the following Table 1 with a dry blender (tumbler mixer) for 30 minutes. In addition, the produced propylene composite material composition was injected under the following conditions to produce a specimen. The physical properties of the prepared specimen were evaluated by the above measurement method of physical properties and are shown in the following Table 1.
[0115] The injection conditions were as follows: the injector was composed of a hopper, a T1 section, a T2 section, a T3 section, and a nozzle heater, and the temperature of each section was as follows:
[0116] - Mold temperature: 50 ℃
[0117] - Injection temperature: T1 = 240 ℃, T2 = 240 ℃, T3 = 210 ℃, nozzle temperature (nozzle heater) = 240 ℃
[0118] - Injection pressure : 600 bar
[0119] - Back pressure: 50 bar
[0120] - Hold pressure: 550 bar
[0121] In the following Table 1, a fiber reinforced polypropylene was produced into a pellet form by pultruding a bundle of multi-strand glass fiber, impregnating the glass fiber in a reaction vessel containing homopolypropylene (MI: 150 g / 10 min) and then taking it out, drying it in a drying die, passing it through a pultrusion driving device (puller), and cutting it into a length of 12 mm. The fiber reinforced polypropylene had a content of glass fiber of 60 wt%. The produced fiber reinforced polypropylene is shown in FIG. 4.
