[0033] Hereinafter, various embodiments of the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the attached drawings so that those skilled in the art can easily implement the invention. The present invention may be implemented in various different forms and is not limited to the embodiments described herein.
[0034] In order to clearly explain the present invention, parts that are not related to the description are omitted, and the same reference numerals are used for identical or similar components throughout the specification.
[0035] Furthermore, the sizes and thicknesses of each component shown in the drawings are arbitrarily indicated for convenience of explanation, and thus the present invention is not necessarily limited to the illustrated components. In the drawings, the thicknesses are enlarged to clearly represent various layers and regions. Furthermore, in the drawings, the thicknesses of some layers and regions are exaggerated for convenience of explanation.
[0036] Furthermore, when we say that a layer, membrane, region, plate, or other part is "above" or "on" another part, this includes not only cases where it is "directly above" the other part, but also cases where there are other parts in between. Conversely, when we say that a part is "directly above" another part, we mean that there are no other parts in between. Furthermore, saying that a part is "above" or "on" a reference part means that it is located above or below the reference part, and does not necessarily mean that it is located "above" or "on" the opposite direction of gravity.
[0037] Additionally, throughout the specification, whenever a part is said to "include" a component, this does not mean that it excludes other components, but rather that it may include other components, unless otherwise specifically stated.
[0038] Additionally, throughout the specification, when we say "in plan", we mean when the target portion is viewed from above, and when we say "in cross section", we mean when the target portion is viewed from the side in a cross-section cut vertically.
[0039] Hereinafter, a schematic structure of a display device will be described with reference to FIGS. 1 to 3. FIG. 1 is a schematic perspective view showing a state of use of a display device according to one embodiment, FIG. 2 is an exploded perspective view of a display device according to one embodiment, and FIG. 3 is a block diagram of a display device according to one embodiment.
[0040] Referring to FIG. 1, a display device (1000) according to one embodiment is a device that displays a moving image or a still image, and can be used as a display screen for various products such as a mobile phone, a smart phone, a tablet personal computer (PC), a mobile communication terminal, an electronic notebook, an electronic book, a portable multimedia player (PMP), a navigation device, an Ultra Mobile PC (UMPC), and the like, as well as a television, a laptop, a monitor, a billboard, and the Internet of Things (IOT). In addition, the display device (1000) according to one embodiment can be used for a wearable device such as a smart watch, a watch phone, a glasses-type display, and a head mounted display (HMD). In addition, the display device (1000) according to one embodiment may be used as a dashboard of a vehicle, a CID (Center Information Display) placed on the center fascia or dashboard of a vehicle, a room mirror display replacing a side mirror of a vehicle, and a display placed on the back of the front seat as entertainment for the rear seat of a vehicle. For convenience of explanation, Fig. 1 illustrates the display device (1000) being used as a tablet PC.
[0041] The display device (1000) can display an image in a third direction (DR3) on a display surface parallel to each of the first direction (DR1) and the second direction (DR2). The display surface on which the image is displayed can correspond to the front surface of the display device (1000) and can correspond to the front surface of the cover window (WU). The image can include a still image as well as a dynamic image.
[0042] In this embodiment, the front (or upper surface) and the back (or lower surface) of each member are defined based on the direction in which the image is displayed. The front and the back are opposed to each other in a third direction (DR3), and the normal directions of each of the front and the back may be parallel to the third direction (DR3). The separation distance between the front and the back in the third direction (DR3) may correspond to the thickness of the display panel in the third direction (DR3).
[0043] A display device (1000) according to one embodiment can detect a user input applied from the outside (see hand in FIG. 1). The user input may include various forms of external input, such as a part of the user's body, light, heat, or pressure. In one embodiment, the user input is illustrated as the user's hand applied to the front. However, the present invention is not limited thereto. The user input may be provided in various forms. For example, the user input may correspond to a portable electronic pen. In addition, the display device (1000) may also detect a user input applied to the side or back of the display device (1000) depending on the structure of the display device (1000).
[0044] Referring to FIGS. 1 and 2, the display device (1000) may include a cover window (WU), a housing (HM), a display panel (DP), and an optical element (ES). In one embodiment, the cover window (WU) and the housing (HM) may be combined to form the exterior of the display device (1000).
[0045] The cover window (WU) may include an insulating panel. For example, the cover window (WU) may be composed of glass, plastic, or a combination thereof.
[0046] The front surface of the cover window (WU) may define the front surface of the display device (1000). The transmissive area (TA) is located on the front surface of the display device (1000) and may be an optically transparent area. For example, the transmissive area (TA) may be an area having a visible light transmittance of about 90% or more.
[0047] The blocking area (BA) can define the shape of the transmissive area (TA). The blocking area (BA) can be adjacent to the transmissive area (TA) and surround the transmissive area (TA). The blocking area (BA) can be an area having relatively low light transmittance compared to the transmissive area (TA). The blocking area (BA) can include an opaque material that blocks light. The blocking area (BA) can have a predetermined color. The blocking area (BA) can be defined by a bezel layer provided separately from a transparent substrate defining the transmissive area (TA), or by an ink layer formed by inserting or coloring the transparent substrate.
[0048] A display panel (DP) may include a front surface including a display area (DA) and a non-display area (PA). The display area (DA) may be an area where pixels operate in response to electrical signals and emit light. The non-display area (PA) of the display panel (DP) may include a driving unit (50).
[0049] In one embodiment, the display area (DA) is an area where an image is displayed, including pixels, and at the same time, an area where a touch sensor is positioned above the pixels in the third direction (DR3) to detect an external input.
[0050] The transparent area (TA) of the cover window (WU) may overlap at least partially with the display area (DA) of the display panel (DP). For example, the transparent area (TA) may overlap the entire surface of the display area (DA) or may overlap at least a portion of the display area (DA). Accordingly, a user may view an image through the transparent area (TA) or provide an external input based on the image. However, the present invention is not limited thereto. For example, an area in which an image is displayed and an area in which an external input is sensed may be separated from each other within the display area (DA).
[0051] A non-display area (PA) of a display panel (DP) may overlap at least partially with a blocking area (BA) of a cover window (WU). The non-display area (PA) may be an area covered by the blocking area (BA). The non-display area (PA) is adjacent to the display area (DA) and may surround the display area (DA). An image is not displayed in the non-display area (PA), and a driving circuit or driving wiring for driving the display area (DA) may be disposed therein. The non-display area (PA) may include a first peripheral area (PA1) where the display area (DA) is positioned on the outside, and a second peripheral area (PA2) including a driving unit (50), a connecting wiring, and a bending area. In the embodiment of FIG. 2, the first peripheral area (PA1) is positioned on three sides of the display area (DA), and the second peripheral area (PA2) is positioned on the remaining side of the display area (DA). The second peripheral area (PA2) may be adjacent to one side of the display area (DA).
[0052] In one embodiment, the display panel (DP) can be assembled in a flat state with the display area (DA) and the non-display area (PA) facing the cover window (WU). However, the present invention is not limited thereto. A portion of the non-display area (PA) of the display panel (DP) can be bent. In this case, a portion of the non-display area (PA) can face the back surface of the display device (1000), so that the blocking area (BA) visible on the front surface of the display device (1000) can be reduced. In FIG. 2, the second peripheral area (PA2) can be bent and positioned on the back surface of the display area (DA) before assembly.
[0053] In addition, the display panel (DP) may include a component area (EA), and specifically, may include a first component area (EA1) and a second component area (EA2). The first component area (EA1) and the second component area (EA2) may be at least partially surrounded by the display area (DA). The first component area (EA1) and the second component area (EA2) are illustrated as being spaced apart from each other, but are not limited thereto and may be at least partially connected. The first component area (EA1) and the second component area (EA2) may be areas in which components that utilize infrared rays, visible light, sound, or the like are arranged therebelow.
[0054] The display area (DA) is formed with a plurality of light-emitting diodes and a plurality of pixel circuits that generate and transmit light-emitting current to each of the plurality of light-emitting diodes. Here, one light-emitting diode and one pixel circuit are referred to as a pixel (PX). In the display area (DA), one pixel circuit and one light-emitting diode are formed one-to-one. That is, each pixel circuit may correspond to one light-emitting diode, but the present invention is not limited thereto.
[0055] The first component area (EA1) may include a transparent portion that allows light and / or sound to pass through and a display portion that includes a plurality of pixels. The transparent portion is located between adjacent pixels and is composed of a layer that allows light and / or sound to pass through. The transparent portion may be located between adjacent pixels, and in some embodiments, a layer that does not allow light to pass through, such as a light-blocking member, may overlap the first component area (EA1). The number of pixels per unit area (hereinafter also referred to as a resolution) of pixels included in the display area (DA) (hereinafter also referred to as normal pixels) may be the same as the number of pixels per unit area of pixels included in the first component area (EA1) (hereinafter also referred to as first component pixels).
[0056] The second component area (EA2) includes an area (hereinafter also referred to as a light-transmitting area) formed of a transparent layer that allows light to pass through, and the light-transmitting area may have a structure in which a conductive layer or a semiconductor layer is not positioned and a layer including a light-blocking material, for example, a pixel defining film and / or a light-blocking member, includes an opening that overlaps a position corresponding to the second component area (EA2), thereby not blocking light. The number of pixels per unit area of pixels included in the second component area (EA2) (hereinafter also referred to as second component pixels) may be smaller than the number of pixels per unit area of normal pixels included in the display area (DA). As a result, the resolution of the second component pixels may be lower than the resolution of the normal pixels.
[0057] Referring to FIGS. 1, 2 and 3, a display panel (DP) may include a display area (DA) including display pixels and a touch sensor (TS). The display panel (DP) may include pixels that are components for generating an image and may be viewed by a user from the outside through a transmissive area (TA). In addition, the touch sensor (TS) may be positioned above the pixels and may detect an external input applied from the outside. The touch sensor (TS) may detect an external input provided to a cover window (WU).
[0058] Again, referring to FIG. 2, the second peripheral area (PA2) may include a bending portion. The display area (DA) and the first peripheral area (PA1) may have a flat state substantially parallel to the plane defined by the first direction (DR1) and the second direction (DR2), and one side of the second peripheral area (PA2) may extend from the flat state, pass through the bending portion, and then have a flat state again. At least a portion of the second peripheral area (PA2) may be assembled to be bent and positioned on the rear side of the display area (DA). When assembled, at least a portion of the second peripheral area (PA2) overlaps the display area (DA) in a plane, so that the blocking area (BA) of the display device (1000) may be reduced. However, the present invention is not limited thereto. For example, the second peripheral area (PA2) may not be bent.
[0059] The driving unit (50) may be mounted on the second peripheral area (PA2), may be mounted on the bending portion, or may be located on either side of the bending portion. The driving unit (50) may be provided in the form of a chip.
[0060] The driving unit (50) is electrically connected to the display area (DA) and can transmit electrical signals to the display area (DA). For example, the driving unit (50) can provide data signals to pixels (PX) arranged in the display area (DA). Alternatively, the driving unit (50) may include a touch driving circuit and may be electrically connected to a touch sensor (TS) arranged in the display area (DA). Meanwhile, the driving unit (50) may include various circuits in addition to the circuits described above or may be designed to provide various electrical signals to the display area (DA).
[0061] Meanwhile, the display device (1000) may have a pad portion positioned at the end of the second peripheral area (PA2), and may be electrically connected to a flexible printed circuit board (FPCB) including a driving chip through the pad portion. Here, the driving chip positioned on the flexible printed circuit board may include various driving circuits for driving the display device (1000), a connector for power supply, and the like. Depending on the embodiment, a rigid printed circuit board (PCB) may be used instead of the flexible printed circuit board.
[0062] The optical element (ES) may be arranged at the bottom of the display panel (DP). The optical element (ES) may include a first optical element (ES1) overlapping the first component area (EA1) and a second optical element (ES2) overlapping the second component area (EA2).
[0063] The first optical element (ES1) may be an electronic element that utilizes light or sound. For example, the first optical element (ES1) may be a sensor that receives and utilizes light, such as an infrared sensor; a sensor that outputs and detects light or sound to measure distance or recognize fingerprints; a small lamp that outputs light; or a speaker that outputs sound. In the case of electronic elements that utilize light, it goes without saying that light of various wavelengths, such as visible light, infrared light, and ultraviolet light, can be utilized.
[0064] The second optical element (ES2) may be at least one of a camera, an infrared camera (IR camera), a dot projector, an infrared illuminator, and a time-of-flight sensor (ToF sensor).
[0065] Referring to FIG. 3, a display device (1000) may include a display panel (DP), a power supply module (PM), a first electronic module (EM1), and a second electronic module (EM2). The display panel (DP), the power supply module (PM), the first electronic module (EM1), and the second electronic module (EM2) may be electrically connected to each other. FIG. 3 exemplarily illustrates display pixels and a touch sensor (TS) located in a display area (DA) of the display panel (DP).
[0066] The power supply module (PM) can supply power required for the overall operation of the display device (1000). The power supply module (PM) can include a conventional battery module.
[0067] The first electronic module (EM1) and the second electronic module (EM2) may include various functional modules for operating the display device (1000). The first electronic module (EM1) may be directly mounted on a motherboard electrically connected to the display panel (DP) or may be mounted on a separate substrate and electrically connected to the motherboard via a connector (not shown) or the like.
[0068] The first electronic module (EM1) may include a control module (CM), a wireless communication module (TM), an image input module (IIM), an audio input module (AIM), memory (MM), and an external interface (IF). Some of the modules may not be mounted on the motherboard, but may be electrically connected to the motherboard via a flexible printed circuit board connected thereto.
[0069] The control module (CM) can control the overall operation of the display device (1000). The control module (CM) may be a microprocessor. For example, the control module (CM) activates or deactivates the display panel (DP). The control module (CM) can control other modules, such as the image input module (IIM) or the audio input module (AIM), based on touch signals received from the display panel (DP).
[0070] The wireless communication module (TM) can transmit and receive wireless signals with other terminals using Bluetooth or Wi-Fi lines. The wireless communication module (TM) can transmit and receive voice signals using general communication lines. The wireless communication module (TM) includes a transmitter (TM1) that modulates and transmits a signal to be transmitted, and a receiver (TM2) that demodulates the received signal.
[0071] The video input module (IIM) can process video signals and convert them into video data that can be displayed on a display panel (DP). The audio input module (AIM) can receive external audio signals from a microphone in recording mode, voice recognition mode, etc., and convert them into electrical voice data.
[0072] The external interface (IF) can serve as an interface to connect to an external charger, wired / wireless data port, card socket (e.g., memory card, SIM / UIM card), etc.
[0073] The second electronic module (EM2) may include an audio output module (AOM), a light emitting module (LM), a light receiving module (LRM), and a camera module (CMM), at least some of which may be positioned on the back of the display panel (DP) as shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 as optical elements (ES). The optical elements (ES) may include a light emitting module (LM), a light receiving module (LRM), and a camera module (CMM). In addition, the second electronic module (EM2) may be directly mounted on the motherboard, or may be mounted on a separate substrate and electrically connected to the display panel (DP) through a connector (not shown), or may be electrically connected to the first electronic module (EM1).
[0074] The audio output module (AOM) can convert audio data received from a wireless communication module (TM) or audio data stored in a memory (MM) and output it externally.
[0075] A light-emitting module (LM) can generate and output light. The light-emitting module (LM) can output infrared light. For example, the light-emitting module (LM) can include an LED element. For example, a light-receiving module (LRM) can detect infrared light. The light-receiving module (LRM) can be activated when infrared light above a predetermined level is detected. The light-receiving module (LRM) can include a CMOS sensor. After the infrared light generated by the light-emitting module (LM) is output, it can be reflected by an external object (e.g., a user's finger or face), and the reflected infrared light can be incident on the light-receiving module (LRM). The camera module (CMM) can capture an image of the outside.
[0076] In one embodiment, the optical element (ES) may additionally include a light detection sensor or a heat detection sensor. The optical element (ES) may detect an external object received through the front surface or provide an audio signal, such as a voice, to the outside through the front surface. Furthermore, the optical element (ES) may include multiple components, and is not limited to any one embodiment.
[0077] Referring again to FIG. 2, the housing (HM) may be coupled with a cover window (WU). The cover window (WU) may be positioned on the front surface of the housing (HM). The housing (HM) may be coupled with the cover window (WU) to provide a predetermined receiving space. The display panel (DP) and the optical element (ES) may be accommodated in the predetermined receiving space provided between the housing (HM) and the cover window (WU).
[0078] The housing (HM) may include a material with relatively high rigidity. For example, the housing (HM) may include a plurality of frames and / or plates made of glass, plastic, or metal, or a combination thereof. The housing (HM) can reliably protect the components of the display device (1000) housed in the internal space from external impact.
[0079] Hereinafter, a sensing electrode according to one embodiment will be described with reference to FIG. 4. FIG. 4 is a schematic plan view of a sensing electrode in a display panel according to one embodiment.
[0080] Referring to FIG. 4, a sensing area (TCA) including a plurality of sensing electrodes (520, 540) may be positioned above the display area (DA) and above the light-emitting diode to recognize a touch. The sensing area (TCA) may be an area where a touch sensor (TS) is positioned.
[0081] A signal line or voltage line (e.g., a driving voltage line, a driving low voltage line, etc.) for transmitting a signal or voltage to a pixel formed in a display area (DA) may be positioned in the non-display area (PA), and a pad portion connected to the signal line or voltage line may be positioned. In addition, a plurality of sensing wires (512, 522) may be further positioned in the non-display area (PA). The plurality of sensing wires (512, 522) may be connected to a plurality of sensing electrodes (520, 540).
[0082] The sensing area (TCA) may include a plurality of sensing electrodes (520, 540). The plurality of sensing electrodes (520, 540) may include a plurality of first sensing electrodes (520) and a plurality of second sensing electrodes (540) that are electrically separated.
[0083] According to an embodiment, the plurality of first sensing electrodes (520) may be sensing input electrodes, and the plurality of second sensing electrodes (540) may be sensing output electrodes. However, the present invention is not limited thereto, and the plurality of first sensing electrodes (520) may be sensing output electrodes, and the plurality of second sensing electrodes (540) may be sensing input electrodes.
[0084] A plurality of first sensing electrodes (520) and a plurality of second sensing electrodes (540) can be arranged in a mesh form so as to be distributed so as not to overlap each other in the sensing area (TCA). The plurality of first sensing electrodes (520) are arranged along one of the column direction and the row direction (the second direction (DR2) referring to FIG. 4), and the plurality of first sensing electrodes (520) are electrically connected to each other by the first sensing electrode connecting portion (521; also referred to as a bridge). Meanwhile, the plurality of second sensing electrodes (540) are also arranged along the other of the column direction and the row direction (the first direction (DR1) referring to FIG. 4), and the plurality of second sensing electrodes (540) are electrically connected to each other by the second sensing electrode connecting portion (541).
[0085] The plurality of first sensing electrodes (520) and the plurality of second sensing electrodes (540) may be positioned on the same conductive layer. Depending on the embodiment, the plurality of first sensing electrodes (520) and the plurality of second sensing electrodes (540) may be positioned on different conductive layers. As shown in FIG. 4, the first sensing electrodes (520) and the second sensing electrodes (540) may have a diamond shape, but are not limited thereto, and depending on the embodiment, the first sensing electrodes (520) and the second sensing electrodes (540) may have a polygonal shape such as a square or a hexagon, or a circular or oval shape.
[0086] Although the plurality of first sensing electrodes (520) and the plurality of second sensing electrodes (540) are illustrated as a single rhombus structure, in reality, one rhombus structure may have an opening and a structure in which linear structures are arranged in a mesh shape. In this case, the opening may correspond to an area where the light-emitting diodes emit light upward. In addition, depending on the embodiment, the plurality of first sensing electrodes (520) and the plurality of second sensing electrodes (540) may have a shape that further includes an extension portion to improve the sensitivity of the sensing sensor.
[0087] The first sensing electrode (520) and the second sensing electrode (540) may be formed of a transparent conductor or an opaque conductor. For example, the first sensing electrode (520) and the second sensing electrode (540) may include a transparent conductive oxide (TCO), and the transparent conductive oxide (TCO) may include at least one of indium tin oxide (ITO), indium zinc oxide (IZO), zinc oxide (ZnO), carbon nanotubes (CNTs), and graphene. In addition, the first sensing electrode (520) and the second sensing electrode (540) may have a multilayer structure including two or more metal layers. For example, the sensing electrode (520) and the second sensing electrode (540) may have a triple structure in which Ti / Al / Ti are stacked.
[0088] Additionally, the first sensing electrode (520) and the second sensing electrode (540) may include a plurality of openings. The openings formed in the sensing electrodes (520, 540) serve to allow light emitted from the light-emitting diode to be emitted to the front without interference.
[0089] When the first sensing electrode (520) and the second sensing electrode (540) are positioned on the same layer, one of the first sensing electrode connection portion (521) and the second sensing electrode connection portion (541) may be positioned on the same layer as the first sensing electrode (520) and the second sensing electrode (540), and the other may be positioned on a different layer from the first sensing electrode (520) and the second sensing electrode (540). As a result, the plurality of first sensing electrodes (520) and the plurality of second sensing electrodes (540) may be electrically separated. The sensing electrode connection portions positioned on different layers may be positioned on an upper or lower layer of the first sensing electrode (520) and the second sensing electrode (540), and the embodiments described below will focus on embodiments in which the sensing electrode connection portions are positioned on a lower layer, i.e., a layer closer to the substrate.
[0090] A plurality of sensing wires (512, 522) are positioned in the non-display area (PA), each of which is connected to a plurality of first sensing electrodes (520) and a plurality of second sensing electrodes (540). The plurality of first sensing wires (512) can be connected to a plurality of second sensing electrodes (540) arranged in a first direction (DR1), and the plurality of second sensing wires (522) can be connected to a plurality of first sensing electrodes (520) arranged in a second direction (DR2).
[0091] In Fig. 4, a mutual-cap type sensing unit that detects touch using two sensing electrodes (520, 540) is illustrated. However, depending on the embodiment, a self-cap type sensing unit that detects touch using only one sensing electrode may be formed.
[0092] Hereinafter, a display device according to one embodiment will be further described with reference to FIG. 5, focusing on a cross-sectional view in a display area (DA). FIG. 5 is a cross-sectional view illustrating a portion of a display area in a display device according to one embodiment.
[0093] Referring to FIG. 5, the substrate (SUB) may include a material having rigid properties such as glass, or a flexible material that can be bent such as plastic or polyimide.
[0094] A buffer layer (BF) may be further positioned on the substrate (SUB) to flatten the surface of the substrate (SUB) and block the penetration of impurity elements. The buffer layer (BF) may include an inorganic material, and for example, may include an inorganic insulating material such as silicon nitride (SiNx), silicon oxide (SiOx), or silicon nitride oxide (SiOxNy). Depending on the embodiment, the buffer layer (BF) may be a single layer or a multilayer structure including the above inorganic insulating materials.
[0095] A barrier layer may be further positioned on the substrate (SUB). At this time, the barrier layer may be positioned between the substrate (SUB) and the buffer layer (BF). The barrier layer may include an inorganic insulating material such as silicon nitride (SiNx), silicon oxide (SiOx), or silicon nitride oxide (SiOxNy). The barrier layer may be a single layer or a multilayer structure including the above inorganic insulating materials.
[0096] A semiconductor layer (ACT) may be positioned on a substrate (SUB). The semiconductor layer (ACT) may include any one of amorphous silicon, polycrystalline silicon, and an oxide semiconductor. For example, the semiconductor layer (ACT) may include low-temperature polysilicon (LTPS) or an oxide semiconductor including at least one of zinc (Zn), indium (In), gallium (Ga), tin (Sn), and mixtures thereof. For example, the semiconductor layer (ACT) may include indium-gallium-zinc oxide (IGZO). The semiconductor layer (ACT) may include a channel region (C), a source region (S), and a drain region (D), which are distinguished according to whether impurity is doped. The source region (S) and the drain region (D) may have conductive characteristics corresponding to a conductor.
[0097] The first gate insulating film (GI1) can cover the semiconductor layer (ACT) and the substrate (SUB). The first gate insulating film (GI1) can be positioned on the buffer layer (BF). The first gate insulating film (GI1) can include an inorganic insulating material such as silicon nitride (SiNx), silicon oxide (SiOx), or silicon nitride oxide (SiOxNy). The first gate insulating film (GI1) can be a single layer or multilayer structure including the above inorganic insulating materials.
[0098] The gate electrode (GE1) may be positioned on the first gate insulating film (GI1). The gate electrode (GE1) may include a metal or a metal alloy such as copper (Cu), molybdenum (Mo), aluminum (Al), silver (Ag), chromium (Cr), tantalum (Ta), or titanium (Ti). The gate electrode (GE1) may be formed as a single layer or multiple layers. A region of the semiconductor layer (ACT) that overlaps the gate electrode (GE) in a planar manner may be a channel region (C). That is, the gate electrode (GE1) may overlap the channel region (C).
[0099] A second gate insulating film (GI2) is positioned on the gate electrode (GE1). The second gate insulating film (GI2) may be in contact with the first gate insulating film (GI1). The second gate insulating film (GI2) may include an inorganic insulating material such as silicon nitride (SiNx), silicon oxide (SiOx), or silicon nitride oxide (SiOxNy). The second gate insulating film (GI2) may be a single layer or a multilayer structure including the above inorganic insulating materials.
[0100] A capacitor electrode (GE2) may be positioned on the second gate insulating film (GI2). The capacitor electrode (GE2) may overlap with the gate electrode (GE1) to form a capacitor.
[0101] A first insulating film (IL1) is positioned on the capacitor electrode (GE2). The first insulating film (IL1) may include an inorganic insulating material such as silicon nitride (SiNx), silicon oxide (SiOx), or silicon nitride oxide (SiOxNy). The first insulating film (IL1) may have a single layer or multilayer structure including the above inorganic insulating materials.
[0102] A source electrode (SE) and a drain electrode (DE) may be positioned on a first insulating film (IL1). The source electrode (SE) and the drain electrode (DE) are respectively connected to a source region (S) and a drain region (D) of a semiconductor layer (ACT) through openings formed in the first insulating film (IL1), the second gate insulating film (GI2), and the first gate insulating film (GI1). For example, the source electrode (SE) may be in direct contact with the source region (S) through a contact hole formed in the first insulating layer (IL1), the second gate insulating layer (GI2), and the first gate insulating layer (GI1). Similarly, the drain electrode (DE) may be in direct contact with the drain region (D) through a contact hole formed in the first insulating layer (IL1), the second gate insulating layer (GI2), and the first gate insulating layer (GI1).
[0103] Accordingly, the aforementioned semiconductor layer (ACT), gate electrode (GE), source electrode (SE), and drain electrode (DE) form one transistor. In some embodiments, the transistor (TFT) may include only the source region (S) and drain region (D) of the semiconductor layer (ACT) instead of the source electrode (SE) and drain electrode (DE).
[0104] The source electrode (SE) and the drain electrode (DE) may include a metal or a metal alloy such as aluminum (Al), copper (Cu), silver (Ag), gold (Au), platinum (Pt), palladium (Pd), nickel (Ni), molybdenum (Mo), tungsten (W), titanium (Ti), chromium (Cr), tantalum (Ta), etc. The source electrode (SE) and the drain electrode (DE) may be formed as a single layer or multiple layers. According to another embodiment, the source electrode (SE) and the drain electrode (DE) may be formed as a triple layer including an upper layer, a middle layer, and a lower layer, and the upper layer and the lower layer may include titanium (Ti), and the middle layer may include aluminum (Al).
[0105] The second insulating film (IL2) may be positioned over the source electrode (SE) and the drain electrode (DE). The second insulating film (IL2) may also cover the first insulating film (IL1). The second insulating film (IL2) covers the source electrode (SE) and the drain electrode (DE).
[0106] The second insulating film (IL2) is for planarizing the surface of the substrate (SUB) equipped with the transistor, and may be an organic insulating film, and may include one or more materials selected from the group consisting of polyimide, polyamide, acrylic resin, benzocyclobutene, and phenol resin.
[0107] The first electrode (E1) may be positioned on the second insulating film (IL2). For example, the first electrode (E1) may be in direct contact with the drain electrode (DE) through a contact hole formed in the second insulating film (IL2). The first electrode (E1) is also called an anode electrode and may be composed of a single layer including a transparent conductive oxide film or a metal material, or a multilayer including them. The transparent conductive oxide film may include indium tin oxide (ITO), poly-ITO, indium zinc oxide (IZO), indium gallium zinc oxide (IGZO), and indium tin zinc oxide (ITZO). The metal material may include silver (Ag), molybdenum (Mo), copper (Cu), gold (Au), and aluminum (Al).
[0108] The first electrode (E1) can be physically and electrically connected to the drain electrode (DE) through an opening in the second insulating film (IL2). Accordingly, the first electrode (E1) can receive an output current to be transmitted from the drain electrode (DE) to the light-emitting layer (EML).
[0109] A pixel defining layer (PDL) and a spacer (SPC) may be positioned on the first electrode (E1) and the second insulating layer (IL2). For example, the pixel defining layer (PDL) may be positioned on the second insulating layer (IL2) and the first electrode (E1), and the spacer (SPC) may be positioned on the pixel defining layer (PDL).
[0110] A pixel defining layer (PDL) includes a pixel opening (OP1) that overlaps at least a portion of a first electrode (E1). An edge of the first electrode (E1) may be overlapped by the pixel defining layer (PDL). At this time, the pixel opening (OP1) may overlap a center portion of the first electrode (E1) and may not overlap an edge of the first electrode (E1). Therefore, a size of the opening (OP1) may be smaller than a size of the first electrode (E1). The pixel defining layer (PDL) may define a formation position of the light emitting layer (EML) so that the light emitting layer (EML) may be positioned on a portion of an upper surface of the first electrode (E1) exposed.
[0111] Each of the pixel defining layer (PDL) and the spacer (SPC) may be an organic insulating layer including one or more materials selected from the group consisting of polyimide, polyamide, acrylic resin, benzocyclobutene, and phenol resin, and according to an embodiment, the pixel defining layer (PDL) may be formed as a black pixel defining layer (BPDL) including a black pigment.
[0112] The emission layer (EML) may be positioned within a pixel aperture (OP1) defined by a pixel defining layer (PDL). The emission layer (EML) may include an organic material that emits red, green, blue, or other light. The emission layer (EML) that emits red, green, or blue light may include a low-molecular-weight or high-molecular-weight organic material. In Fig. 5, the emission layer (EML) is illustrated as a single layer, but in reality, auxiliary layers such as an electron injection layer, an electron transport layer, a hole transport layer, and a hole injection layer may also be included above and below the emission layer (EML), and the hole injection layer and the hole transport layer may be positioned below the emission layer (EML), and the electron transport layer and the electron injection layer may be positioned above the emission layer (EML).
[0113] The second electrode (E2) may be positioned on the pixel defining layer (PDL) and the emission layer (EML). The second electrode (E2) is also called a cathode electrode and may include at least one selected from lithium (Li), silver (Ag), magnesium (Mg), aluminum (Al), aluminum-lithium (Al-Li), calcium (Ca), magnesium-indium (Mg-In), magnesium-silver (Mg-Ag), ITO, and IZO, but is not limited thereto. In addition, the second electrode (E2) may have a translucent characteristic, and in this case, it may form a micro cavity together with the first electrode (E1). According to the micro cavity structure, light of a specific wavelength is emitted upwards by the gap and characteristics between the two electrodes, and as a result, red, green, or blue can be displayed.
[0114] The first electrode (E1), the light-emitting layer (EML), and the second electrode (E2) can form one light-emitting element (ED).
[0115] The encapsulation layer (ENC) may be positioned on the second electrode (E2). The encapsulation layer (ENC) may include at least one inorganic film and at least one organic film. In the present embodiment, the encapsulation layer (ENC) may include a first inorganic encapsulation layer (EIL1), an organic encapsulation layer (EOL), and a second inorganic encapsulation layer (EIL2). The first inorganic encapsulation layer (EIL1) may be in direct contact with the second electrode (E2). However, this is merely an example, and the number of inorganic films and organic films constituting the encapsulation layer (ENC) may vary.
[0116] A lower sensing electrode part (MTL1) and an upper sensing electrode part (MTL2) may be positioned on the encapsulating layer (ENC). For example, the lower sensing electrode part (MTL1) may be in direct contact with the second inorganic encapsulating layer (EIL2). Additionally, the lower sensing electrode part (MTL1) and the upper sensing electrode part (MTL2) may be in direct contact.
[0117] Although this specification limits the configuration in which the lower sensing electrode portion (MTL1) is positioned directly above the encapsulating layer (ENC), the present invention is not limited thereto, and a lower sensing insulating layer may be positioned between the encapsulating layer (ENC) and the lower sensing electrode portion (MTL1).
[0118] The lower sensing electrode unit (MTL1) may include at least one of the plurality of sensing electrodes (520, 540), the first sensing electrode connection unit (521), and the second sensing electrode connection unit (541) described above. The upper sensing electrode unit (MTL2) may include the remaining of the plurality of sensing electrodes (520, 540), the first sensing electrode connection unit (521), and the second sensing electrode connection unit (541) described above. For example, the lower sensing electrode unit (MTL1) may include the plurality of sensing electrodes (520, 540) and the first sensing electrode connection unit (521), and the upper sensing electrode unit (MTL2) may include the second sensing electrode connection unit (541). Alternatively, according to one embodiment, the lower sensing electrode portion (MTL1) may include a second sensing electrode connection portion (541), and the upper sensing electrode portion (MTL2) may include a plurality of sensing electrodes (520, 540) and a first sensing electrode connection portion (521). This is not limited thereto, and may be modified into various embodiments. This specification describes an embodiment in which the lower sensing electrode portion (MTL1) includes a sensing electrode connection portion.
[0119] The first sensing insulating layer (TL1) may be positioned on the encapsulation layer (ENC) and the lower sensing electrode portion (MTL1). The first sensing insulating layer (TL1) may include an inorganic insulating material or an organic insulating material. The inorganic insulating material may include at least one of silicon nitride, aluminum nitride, zirconium nitride, titanium nitride, hafnium nitride, tantalum nitride, silicon oxide, aluminum oxide, titanium oxide, tin oxide, cerium oxide, and silicon oxynitride. The organic insulating material may include at least one of acrylic resin, methacrylic resin, polyisoprene, vinyl resin, epoxy resin, urethane resin, cellulose resin, and perylene resin.
[0120] An upper sensing electrode portion (MTL2) may be positioned on the first sensing insulating layer (TL1). The upper sensing electrode portion (MTL2) may include at least one of a plurality of sensing electrodes (520, 540), a first sensing electrode connection portion (521), and a second sensing electrode connection portion (541), as described above. According to one embodiment, the upper sensing electrode portion (MTL2) may include a plurality of sensing electrodes (520, 540) and a first sensing electrode connection portion (521).
[0121] The upper sensing electrode portion (MTL2) can be electrically connected to the lower sensing electrode portion (MTL1) through a contact hole formed in the first sensing insulating layer (TL1).
[0122] A display device according to one embodiment may further include a reflective layer (MTL3) positioned on the same layer as the upper sensing electrode portion (MTL2). For example, the reflective layer (MTL3) may be positioned between a pair of upper sensing electrode portions (MTL2).
[0123] The reflective layer (MTL3) may be formed in the same process as the upper sensing electrode portion (MTL2) and may include the same material. The reflective layer (MTL3) may be positioned on the first sensing insulating layer (TL1). A portion of the reflective layer (MTL3) may penetrate the first sensing insulating layer (TL1). The reflective layer (MTL3) may overlap the light-emitting layer (EML).
[0124] An etching process may be performed on the first sensing insulating layer (TL1) to include a contact hole (CNT) for electrically connecting the lower sensing electrode portion (MTL1) and the upper sensing electrode portion (MTL2). In the etching process, a recessed portion (RC) may be formed in an area overlapping the reflective layer (MTL3). The recessed portion (RC) may have a recessed shape from the flat upper surface of the first sensing insulating layer (TL2) toward the substrate (SUB). The recessed portion (RC) may be recessed from the upper surface of the first sensing insulating layer (TL2) to a height equal to the height of the contact hole (CNT).
[0125] The reflective layer (MTL3) may have a shape corresponding to the shape of the first sensing insulating layer (TL1) in contact with the reflective layer (MTL3). The reflective layer (MTL3) may have a recessed shape in cross-section along the recessed portion (RC) of the first sensing insulating layer (TL1). The lower surface of the reflective layer (MTL3) may have a curved shape along the recessed portion (RC). Alternatively, the lower surface of the reflective layer (MTL3) may have a step or an inclined surface depending on the shape of the recessed portion (RC).
[0126] The reflective layer (MTL3) can cause light (L1) emitted from the light-emitting layer (EML) to be reflected back toward the second electrode (E2) from the lower surface of the reflective layer (MTL3). The light (L1) reflected toward the second electrode (E2) can be reflected back toward the outside of the display device from the second electrode (E2).
[0127] A second sensing insulating layer (TL2) may be positioned on the upper sensing electrode (MTL2) and the reflective layer (MTL3). The second sensing insulating layer (TL2) may include an inorganic insulating material or an organic insulating material. The inorganic insulating material may include at least one of silicon nitride, aluminum nitride, zirconium nitride, titanium nitride, hafnium nitride, tantalum nitride, silicon oxide, aluminum oxide, titanium oxide, tin oxide, cerium oxide, and silicon oxynitride. The organic insulating material may include at least one of acrylic resin, methacrylic resin, polyisoprene, vinyl resin, epoxy resin, urethane resin, cellulose resin, and perylene resin.
[0128] A light-shielding member (BM1, BM2) and a color filter (CF) may be positioned on the second sensing insulating layer (TL2).
[0129] According to one embodiment, a light-blocking member (BM1, BM2) may include a first light-blocking member (BM1) and a second light-blocking member (BM2). The first light-blocking member (BM1) may be positioned to overlap the lower sensing electrode portion (MTL1) and the upper sensing electrode portion (MTL2), or may be positioned to overlap at least a portion of the pixel defining layer (PDL), and may be spaced apart from the first electrode (E1) without overlapping. This is to prevent the first electrode (E1) capable of displaying an image and the light-emitting layer (EML) from being covered by the first light-blocking member (BM1), the lower sensing electrode portion (MTL1), and the upper sensing electrode portion (MTL2).
[0130] The second light-blocking member (BM2) may overlap with the reflective layer (MTL3). The second light-blocking member (BM2) may have a form that completely covers the reflective layer (MTL3). The second light-blocking member (BM2) may overlap with the first electrode (E1) and the light-emitting layer (EML). The second light-blocking member (BM2) may not completely cover the first electrode (E1) and the light-emitting layer (EML). The second light-blocking member (BM2) may absorb external light (L2) incident on the light-emitting area, thereby reducing external light reflection.
[0131] A color filter (CF) may be positioned on the light-shielding member (BM1, BM2) and the second sensing insulating layer (TL2). The color filter (CF) includes a red color filter that transmits red light, a green color filter that transmits green light, and a blue color filter that transmits blue light.
[0132] Each color filter (CF) can be positioned to overlap the first electrode (E1) of the light emitting diode in a plane. Since light emitted from the light emitting layer (EML) can be emitted while changing to a corresponding color as it passes through the color filter, all light emitted from the light emitting layer (EML) can have the same color. That is, light emitted from the light emitting layer (EML) can change to a specific color as it passes through the color filter. As a result, the color of the light emitted from the light emitting layer (EML) can appear uniform. However, the light of different colors can be displayed in the light emitting layer (EML), and the displayed color can be enhanced by allowing the light to pass through a color filter of the same color.
[0133] The first shading member (BM1) may be positioned BM2 between each color filter (CF). Depending on the embodiment, the color filter (CF) may be replaced with a color conversion layer or may further include a color conversion layer. The color conversion layer may include quantum dots.
[0134] A planarization layer (TL3) covering the color filter (CF) is positioned on top of the color filter (CF). The planarization layer (TL3) is intended to planarize the upper surface of the light-emitting display panel, and may be a transparent organic insulating film containing one or more materials selected from the group consisting of polyimide, polyamide, acrylic resin, benzocyclobutene, and phenol resin.
[0135] In some embodiments, a low-refractive-index layer and an additional planarization layer may be further positioned on the planarization layer (TL3) to improve the front visibility and light emission efficiency of the display panel. Light may be refracted and emitted toward the front by the low-refractive-index layer and the additional planarization layer having high-refractive-index characteristics. In this case, in some embodiments, the planarization layer (TL3) may be omitted, and the low-refractive-index layer and the additional planarization layer may be positioned directly on the color filter (CF).
[0136] In this embodiment, a polarizing plate is not included on the upper portion of the planarization layer (TL3). The polarizing plate can prevent the display quality from being deteriorated when external light is incident and reflected from the sidewall of the pixel aperture of the first electrode (E1) or the pixel defining layer (PDL), thereby preventing the display quality from being deteriorated as seen by the user. However, the polarizing plate has a disadvantage in that it not only reduces the reflection of external light, but also reduces the light emitted from the light emitting layer (EML), so that more power is consumed to display a certain brightness. In order to reduce power consumption, the light emitting display device of this embodiment may not include a polarizing plate.
[0137] Hereinafter, the shape of the second light-blocking member formed in the display area (DA) will be examined with reference to FIGS. 6 and 7. FIG. 6 is a schematic plan view showing a plurality of pixels according to one embodiment, and FIG. 7 is a plan view showing a part of FIG. 6.
[0138] In FIGS. 6 and 7, pixel apertures (OP1, OP2, OP3) of pixel defining layers (PDL) corresponding to each light emitting layer and a second light blocking member (BM2) are illustrated based on the light emitting layers displaying the three primary colors of red, green, and blue.
[0139] According to one embodiment, a display area (DA) may include a first pixel (PX1) emitting red light, a second pixel (PX2) emitting green light, and a third pixel (PX3) emitting blue light. For example, as illustrated in FIG. 6, the first pixel (PX1) and the second pixel (PX2) may be alternately arranged in a second direction (DR2) in one column, and the third pixel (PX3) may be repeatedly arranged in another column adjacent to the column. However, the arrangement is not limited to this arrangement form, and the first pixel (PX1), the second pixel (PX2), and the third pixel (PX3) may be arranged in various forms.
[0140] The second light-blocking member (BM2) may include a second-first sub-light-blocking member (BM2a) overlapping the first pixel (PX1), a second-second sub-light-blocking member (BM2b) overlapping the second pixel (PX2), and a second-third sub-light-blocking member (BM2c) overlapping the third pixel (PX3). The second-first sub-light-blocking member (BM2a) may overlap with a light-emitting layer (EML) that emits red light, the second-second sub-light-blocking member (BM2b) may overlap with a light-emitting layer (EML) that emits green light, and the second-third sub-light-blocking member (BM2c) may overlap with a light-emitting layer (EML) that emits blue light.
[0141] The second-first sub-light-blocking member (BM2a), the second-second sub-light-blocking member (BM2b), and the second-third sub-light-blocking member (BM2c) have the same elliptical shape. The second-first sub-light-blocking member (BM2a), the second-second sub-light-blocking member (BM2b), and the second-third sub-light-blocking member (BM2c) have long axes and short axes of the same length. Each of the second-first sub-light-blocking member (BM2a), the second-second sub-light-blocking member (BM2b), and the second-third sub-light-blocking member (BM2c) has an elliptical planar shape with the same eccentricity. Each of the second-first sub-light-blocking member (BM2a), the second-second sub-light-blocking member (BM2b), and the second-3 sub-light-blocking member (BM2c) may have an eccentricity of 0.2 or more and 0.85 or less.
[0142] Here, an ellipse has two foci, can have a shape that connects points where the sum of the distances to the two foci is constant, and can have a major axis and a minor axis. Meanwhile, the eccentricity of an ellipse is the distance between the two foci divided by the length of the major axis. An eccentricity of 0 represents a circle, and an eccentricity of 1 represents a parabola. Therefore, an ellipse has an eccentricity value greater than 0 and less than 1.
[0143] The ratio of the major axis to the minor axis of the second-first sub-light-shielding member (BM2a) may be 1:1 to 2:1. When the ratio of the major axis to the minor axis of the second-first sub-light-shielding member (BM2a) exceeds 2:1, the external light reflectance may increase as the area occupied by the second-first sub-light-shielding member (BM2a) decreases.
[0144] Additionally, the length of the major axis of the second-first sub-light-blocking member (BM2a) may be shorter than the length of the minor axis of the first pixel (PX1). This is so that the second-first sub-light-blocking member (BM2a) can be rotated at various angles within the first pixel (PX1).
[0145] A display device according to one embodiment includes a plurality of second-first sub-light-blocking members (BM2a). When an angle formed by a major axis of the second-first sub-light-blocking members (BM2a) with the first direction (DR1) is referred to as a first angle (Θ1), the first angle (Θ1) may have at least two or more different angle values. For example, the first angle (Θ1) may have at least three or more different angle values, for example, at least four or more different angle values, or for example, five or more different angle values.
[0146] The multiple major axes of the plurality of second-first sub-shielding members (BM2a) may be arranged at variously irregular intervals or at variously regular intervals. The embodiment in which the major axes of the second-first sub-shielding members (BM2a) are arranged at unequal intervals may be intentionally arranged to reduce the diffraction pattern, or may be arranged at unequal intervals due to process errors.
[0147] The major axes of the plurality of second-first sub-shading members (BM2a) may be arranged at various angle intervals of 90 degrees or less, 60 degrees or less, 45 degrees or less, or 36 degrees or less. For example, the major axes of the second-first sub-shading members (BM2a) may be arranged at intervals of 36 degrees, so that when one major axis has 0 degrees with respect to the first direction (DR1), it may have angles of 36 degrees, 72 degrees, 108 degrees, and 144 degrees, for a total of five angles. The intervals between the major axis angles can be confirmed by dividing the 180-degree angle by 5, which is the number of directions. This may mean that two angles of 180 degrees out of 360 degrees are obtained by dividing by the number of degrees since the major axis directions of the ellipse are substantially the same.
[0148] The ratio of the major axis to the minor axis of the 2-2 sub-light-shielding member (BM2b) may be 1:1 to 2:1. When the ratio of the major axis to the minor axis of the 2-2 sub-light-shielding member (BM2b) exceeds 2:1, the external light reflectance may increase as the area occupied by the 2-2 sub-light-shielding member (BM2b) decreases.
[0149] Additionally, the length of the major axis of the second-second sub-light-blocking member (BM2b) may be shorter than the length of the minor axis of the second pixel (PX2). This is so that the second-second sub-light-blocking member (BM2b) can be rotated at various angles within the second pixel (PX2).
[0150] A display device according to one embodiment includes a plurality of second-second sub-light-blocking members (BM2b). When an angle formed by a major axis of the second-second sub-light-blocking members (BM2b) with the first direction (DR1) is referred to as a second angle (Θ2), the second angle (Θ2) may have at least two different angle values. For example, the second angle (Θ2) may have at least three different angle values, for example, at least four different angle values, or for example, five or more different angle values.
[0151] The multiple major axes of the plurality of second-second sub-shielding members (BM2b) may be arranged at variously irregular intervals or at variously regular intervals. The embodiment in which the major axes of the second-second sub-shielding members (BM2b) are arranged at unequal intervals may be intentionally arranged to reduce the diffraction pattern, or may be arranged at unequal intervals due to process errors.
[0152] The major axes of the plurality of second-second sub-shielding members (BM2b) may be arranged at various angles of 90 degrees or less, 60 degrees or less, 45 degrees or less, or 36 degrees or less. For example, the major axes of the second-second sub-shielding members (BM2b) may be arranged at intervals of 36 degrees, so that when one major axis has 0 degrees with respect to the first direction (DR1), it may have angles of 36 degrees, 72 degrees, 108 degrees, and 144 degrees, for a total of five angles. The intervals between the major axis angles can be confirmed by dividing the 180-degree angle by 5, which is the number of directions. This may mean that two angles of 180 degrees out of 360 degrees are obtained by dividing by the number of degrees since the major axis directions of the ellipse are substantially the same.
[0153] The ratio of the major axis to the minor axis of the 2-3 sub-shading member (BM2c) may be 1:1 to 2:1. When the ratio of the major axis to the minor axis of the 2-3 sub-shading member (BM2c) exceeds 2:1, the external light reflectance may increase as the area occupied by the 2-3 sub-shading member (BM2c) decreases.
[0154] Additionally, the length of the major axis of the second-third sub-light-blocking member (BM2c) may be shorter than the length of the minor axis of the third pixel (PX3). This is so that the second-third sub-light-blocking member (BM2c) can be rotated at various angles within the third pixel (PX3).
[0155] A display device according to one embodiment includes a plurality of second-third sub-light-blocking members (BM2c). When an angle formed by a major axis of the second-third sub-light-blocking members (BM2c) with the first direction (DR1) is referred to as a third angle (Θ3), the third angle (Θ3) may have at least two different angle values. For example, the third angle (Θ3) may have at least three different angle values, for example, at least four different angle values, or for example, five or more different angle values.
[0156] The multiple major axes of the plurality of second-third sub-shielding members (BM2c) may be arranged at variously irregular intervals or at variously regular intervals. The embodiment in which the major axes of the second-third sub-shielding members (BM2c) are arranged at unequal intervals may be intentionally arranged to reduce the diffraction pattern, or may be arranged at unequal intervals due to process errors.
[0157] The major axis of the 2nd-3rd sub-shading member (BM2c) may be arranged at various angle intervals of 90 degrees or less, 60 degrees or less, 45 degrees or less, or 36 degrees or less. For example, the major axis angles of the 2nd-3rd sub-shading member (BM2c) are formed at intervals of 36 degrees, so that when one major axis has 0 degrees with respect to the first direction (DR1), it can have angles of 36 degrees, 72 degrees, 108 degrees, and 144 degrees, for a total of 5 angles. The intervals between the major axis angles can be confirmed by dividing the 180-degree angle by 5, which is the number of directions. This can mean that two angles of 180 degrees out of 360 degrees are obtained by dividing by the number of degrees because the major axis directions of the ellipse are substantially the same.
[0158] As described above, each of the second-first sub-light-blocking member (BM2a), the second-second sub-light-blocking member (BM2b), and the second-third sub-light-blocking member (BM2c) has an elliptical shape, and the direction in which the long axis of the ellipse faces can be randomly arranged. As illustrated in FIG. 7, the degree of reflection of external light can vary depending on the direction of the long axis of the ellipse of the second light-blocking member (BM2). At this time, since the long axes of each of the second-first sub-light-blocking member (BM2a), the second-second sub-light-blocking member (BM2b), and the second-third sub-light-blocking member (BM2c) are arranged at various angles, the display device can have uniform external light reflection characteristics overall. Accordingly, external light reflection characteristics such as color separation and diffraction patterns can be improved.
[0159] Hereinafter, a display device according to another embodiment will be described with reference to FIGS. 8 to 11. FIGS. 8, 9, 10, and 11 are schematic plan views illustrating a plurality of pixels according to one embodiment.
[0160] Referring to FIG. 8, the 2-1 sub-light-blocking member (BM2a), the 2-2 sub-light-blocking member (BM2b), and the 2-3 sub-light-blocking member (BM2c) according to one embodiment may have oval shapes of different sizes. The 2-1 sub-light-blocking member (BM2a), the 2-2 sub-light-blocking member (BM2b), and the 2-3 sub-light-blocking member (BM2c) may have different areas. For example, the 2-3 sub-light-blocking member (BM2c) may be larger than the 2-1 sub-light-blocking member (BM2a) and the 2-2 sub-light-blocking member (BM2b). Additionally, the 2-2 sub-light-blocking member (BM2b) may be smaller than the 2-1 sub-light-blocking member (BM2a).
[0161] The lengths of the major axis and the minor axis of the 2-1 sub-light-shielding member (BM2a), the lengths of the major axis and the minor axis of the 2-2 sub-light-shielding member (BM2b), and the lengths of the major axis and the minor axis of the 2-3 sub-light-shielding member (BM2c) may be different. In addition, the ratio of the major axis and the minor axis of the 2-1 sub-light-shielding member (BM2a), the ratio of the major axis and the minor axis of the 2-2 sub-light-shielding member (BM2b), and the ratio of the major axis and the minor axis of the 2-3 sub-light-shielding member (BM2c) may be different from each other. [0162] Although this specification illustrates an embodiment in which the sizes of the 2-3 sub-light-blocking member (BM2c), the 2-1 sub-light-blocking member (BM2a), and the 2-2 sub-light-blocking member (BM2b) decrease in that order, the present invention is not limited thereto, and the sizes of the 2-3 sub-light-blocking member (BM2c), the 2-1 sub-light-blocking member (BM2a), and the 2-2 sub-light-blocking member (BM2a) may be variously modified. The degree of reflection of red light, the degree of reflection of green light, and the degree of reflection of blue light may be different, and the sizes of the 2-1 sub-light-blocking member (BM2a), the 2-2 sub-light-blocking member (BM2b), and the 2-3 sub-light-blocking member (BM2c) may be adjusted depending on the degree of reflection of external light.
