[0024] A network (NW) can perform random access channel (RACH) configuration optimization by receiving random access (RA) relevant information stored by a user equipment (UE) in any one or more of the following reports: Random Access (RA) reports, Radio Link Failure (RLF) reports, successful handover reports (SHR) and / or connection failure reports (CEF) . In this patent document, NW may refer to a base station, an base station function entity , e.g. (operations, administration, and management (OAM) entity) , a NW node. The base station or NW node receiving UE information may be connected to a different NW node, or core network node. After receiving UE reported information, the base station / NW node may forward the received information to different NW node or to function entity / entities in the base station / NW for processing, analyzing and performing optimization if needed.
[0025] A technical feature to optimize for NW includes RACH configuration (e.g. parameters relevant to preamble transmission power) . If the NW can understand or determine the preamble transmission power used for each RA attempt, then the NW can determine whether the maximum transmission power has been reached in the RA procedure and the NW can determine for which RA attempt was the maximum transmission power used. If maximum power transmission has been used at an early stage, it could mean that there is an improper transmission power configuration (e.g., the power step is set to large) or the RA resource is too limited, which can be determined based on other RA relevant information collected. The NW can, based on the preamble transmission power information derived from RA information stored, perform corresponding RACH optimization, e.g., adjust the preamble transmission step or adjust the initial preamble transmission power.
[0026] A UE stores the RA related information by the attempted beam order, and for consecutively RA attempt in the same beam (either SSB or CSI-RS) , e.g., UE may create a new entry (e.g., as the perRASSBInfoList-r16 or perRACSI-RSInfoList-r16 shown below) when the selected beam for preamble transmission changes. Originally, UE can only ramp transmission power when the selected beam is not changed, and then, by analyzing the per RA attempt information stored in each entries of the RA report, the NW can derive the order of attempted beams, the change of beams, when the preamble transmission power ramps and how many power ramp-up occurred within one RA procedure. Together with the NW configured preamble transmission power parameters (e.g., power ramping steps) , NW can derive the transmission power used for each preamble transmission.
[0027] However, due to introduce of Listen Before Talk (LBT) in unlicensed spectrum and the power suspension indication introduced, UE preamble transmission power control may be relied on multiple factors, e.g. whether or not the beam used for preamble is changed, whether notification of suspending the preamble transmission counter has been received or not from lower layers, and whether LBT failure indication has been received or not from lower layers. Currently, UE will ramp-up the preamble transmission power only when: (1) the notification of suspending power ramping counter has not been received from lower layers by the UE; and (2) the LBT failure indication was not received from lower layers for the last Random Access Preamble transmission by the UE; and (3) the SSB or CSI-RS selected is not changed from the selection in the last Random Access Preamble transmission. Thus, one of the technical issues is that it may not be possible for a NW to derive or determine the correct preamble transmission power as intended for the NW if that NW did not receive from the UE additional information on whether or not the UE has received notification of suspending power ramping counter indication and whether or not the UE has received LBT failure indication for last preamble transmission. Thus, this patent document describes technical solution (s) related to assisting information to help a NW derive preamble transmission power.
[0028] Another technical issue relevant to RACH optimization is to further identify the root cause of RACH procedure. Currently, the UE may store the RA purpose that triggers the random access procedure, which includes RA triggered due to scheduling request (SR) failure or SR is triggered but there is no valid PUCCH configuration. However, when the RA procedure is triggered due to SR failure or SR is triggered but there is no PUCCH resource, the root cause can be more relevant to improper SR configuration than to RACH configuration. If dedicated SR configuration has been configured for LBT or beam failure recovery (BFR) , then UE may not need to use valuable RA resource to ask for uplink (UL) resource. But there is lack of information in RA information stored by the UE regarding the cause that triggered the SR, which makes it difficult for NW to know how to optimize the SR configuration. Thus, this patent document describes technical solution (s) related to assisting information to identify SR triggered in BFR procedure or LBT procedure.
[0029] The example techniques described in this patent document can be applied to non-terrestrial network (NTN) , terrestrial network (TN) or air-to-ground (ATG) network.
[0030] The example headings for the various sections below are used to facilitate the understanding of the disclosed subject matter and do not limit the scope of the claimed subject matter in any way. Accordingly, one or more features of one example section can be combined with one or more features of another example section. Furthermore, 5G terminology is used for the sake of clarity of explanation, but the techniques disclosed in the present document are not limited to 5G technology only, and may be used in wireless systems that implemented other protocols.
[0031] I. Introduction to UE Information Request and UE Information Response
[0032] FIG. 1 shows a procedure used to request or report UE information stored by the UE, where the UE information can include RA information. The UE information procedure is used by the network to request the UE to report information. In this example, NW may use UEInformationRequest message to request UE to report one or more reports that is stored by UE by including one or more request indication in the message. For example, when ra-ReportReq-r16 is included, UE is requested to report stored RACH report if there are available RACH reports stored in UE. Each information element (IE) included in this message can be used to request UE to report the corresponding reports or information, and the detailed description is given in UEInformationRequest-IEs field descriptions. Based on NW request, UE can report the stored information to NW via UEInformationResponse message as described in this patent.
[0033] – UEInformationRequest
[0034] The UEInformationRequest message is used by the network to retrieve information from the UE.
[0035] ● Signalling radio bearer: SRB1
[0036] ● RLC-SAP: AM
[0037] ● Logical channel: DCCH
[0038] ● Direction: Network to UE
[0039] UEInformationRequest message
[0040] II. Information on RACH Report
[0041] According to current technology, parameter shown below can be configured for RA procedure to assist UE to adjust the transmission power used for uplink transmission (e.g., preamble) :
[0042] ● PREAMBLE_POWER_RAMPING_COUNTER: It is used to count the number of power ramp during the RA procedure
[0043] ● PREAMBLE_POWER_RAMPING_STEP: the power ramping factor for preamble transmission. For each power ramping, UE increase current the preamble transmission power by the power ramping factor indicated until reaches the maximum allowed preamble transmission power as indicated in PCMAX.
[0044] ● PREAMBLE_RECEIVED_TARGET_POWER: initial Random Access Preamble power
[0045] ● PCMAX: can also refers to Pcmax, f, c , configured maximum UE output power of the selected carrier
[0046] For RA information relevant to one completed RA procedure, UE will store the RA information in one RA-report. Each RA-report may contain one or more below fields:
[0047] ● One RA-InformationCommon field, to indicate some common RA information that may be included in RA report, RLF reports or SHR.
[0048] ● one RA purpose field to indicate the purpose of the RA procedure
[0049] ● One cell identity field to indicate the cell which the RA procedure occurs
[0050] ● One SpCell indication, which indicates the SpCells (e.g., PCell of Master Cell Group or PSCell of Secondary Cell Group) when the cell the RA procedure happens is a SCell.
[0051] In RA-InformationCommon, it contains one or more Information Elements (IEs) that used to indicate the RA resource configuration used in the RA procedure and the performance relevant information of each RA attempts of the RA procedure. It is specified in standards that UE may store the RA related information by the attempted beam order, and for consecutively RA attempt in the same beam (either SSB or CSI-RS) , i.e., UE will create a new entry (e.g., as the perRASSBInfoList-r16 or perRACSI-RSInfoList-r16 in the ASN. 1 given below) when the selected beam for preamble transmission changes. For each entry of the same beam, UE will store in PerRASSBInfo-r16 (if selected beam is SSB) or in perRACSI-RSInfo-r16 (if selected beam is CSI-RS) the information related to each RA attempt, e.g., the beam index, the per RA attempt information (e.g., indication to indicate whether contention is detected or not for this attempt, whether the RSRP of the selected beam is above the RSRP threshold configured for the beam selection and etc) . Since UE will only ramp transmission power when the selected beam is not changed, then by analyzing the per RA attempt information stored in each entries of the RA report, NW is able to derive the order of attempted beams, the change of beams, when the preamble transmission power ramps and how many power ramp-up occurs within one RA procedure. Together with the NW configured preamble transmission power parameters (e.g., power ramping steps) , NW can derive the transmission power used for each preamble transmission.
[0052] The RA information may be stored in RA reports, or RLF reports or Successful handover reports or connection failure reports. The stored RA information can be reported to NW via UE Information request and UE information response procedure. Given below is the example ASN. 1 of RA information stored by the UE:
[0053] – UEInformationResponse
[0054] The UEInformationResponse message is used by the UE to transfer information requested by the network.
[0055] ● Signalling radio bearer: SRB1 or SRB2 (when logged measurement information is included)
[0056] ● RLC-SAP: AM
[0057] ● Logical channel: DCCH
[0058] ● Direction: UE to network
[0059] The bold italicized text shown below indicates content for RA information stored in RA report. The RA-InformationCommon is common RA information that can be stored in RA report, or RLF report or successful HO report. PerRAInfoList (part of RA-InformationCommon) that can store all the RA attempted relevant information can be included in connection failure report.
[0060] UEInformationResponse message
[0061] III. Example Techniques to Transmit or Receive RA Information
[0062] In some embodiments, the techniques described below can allow UE to collect RA information using the following example steps:
[0063] ● Step 1: Upon completion of RA procedure, UE stores the relevant RA information
[0064] ● Step 2 (Optional) : UE reports availability of reports to NW
[0065] ● Step 3: NW request UE to report one or more reports stored by UE
[0066] ● Step 4: UE transmits to NW the requested reports if available at UE’s side
[0067] For step 1, the RA procedure may be successful or unsuccessful. The RA relevant information may be stored in RA report or RLF report or CEF report or SHR, or Successful PSCell change / addition Report (SPR) or reports to collect small data transmission relevant information (e.g., SDT report) .
[0068] For step 2, if the RA information is stored in RLF report UE can indicate to NW with one indication that there is an available RLF report for fetch. If the RA information is stored in CEF report (s) UE can indicate to NW with one indication that there are available CEF report (s) for fetch. If the RA information is stored in SHR UE can indicate to NW with one indication that there is an available SHR. If the RA information is stored in SPR UE can indicate to NW with one indication that there is an available SHR for fetch. If the RA information is stored in SDT report UE can indicate to NW with one indication that there is an available SDT report for fetch. If the RA information is stored in RA report UE can indicate to NW with one indication that there are available RA report (s) for fetch. In some example, when RA information is stored in RA reports, UE is not required to report availability of RA reports to NW.
[0069] For step 3, NW can use separate bits to request one or more reports as discussed in step 1 / 2 or new reports that maybe introduced to store RA information, e.g., reports to collect small data transmission relevant information. In some example UEInformationRequest is used to request UE to report reports or information stored by UE.
[0070] For step 4, upon reception of request from NW, UE can transmits the reports as requested by NW if available, to NW. The RA information stored then can be tranmit to NW as parts of the reports. The message that carries the reports is UEInformationResponse message in some examples.
[0071] After receiving the message carries the requested reports, the receiving node can forward the received reports to relevant NW node (if needed) based on the cell identity included in the reports. Both the receiving nodes and the forwarded nodes can analysis the reports and perform optimization (e.g., optimize RACH configuration) .
[0072] III. A. Assisting Information for Transmission Power Calculation
[0073] For step 1:
[0074] As stated in previous section, assisting information is needed in RA information stored by the UE and needs to be transmitted by the UE to the NW so that NW can derive the preamble transmission power correctly. The RA information may be transmitted by the UE to the NW in Step 4 above. The assisting information can be stored UE as part of RA information, and can be one or more of below information. The terms “Alt” and “Opt” in this patent document can refer to alternative and option, respectively.
[0075] ● Alt1: Indication per RA attempt (or for a RA attempt) to indicate whether notification of suspending power ramping counter has been received from lower layers or not for a RA attempt. Shown below is an example of coding scheme that may be used to indicate this information:
[0076] ○ Opt1: One bit indication is used, where 1 may mean notification of suspending power ramping counter has been received from lower layers for this RA attempt, and zero may mean the opposite. Or vice versa.
[0077] ○ Opt2: presence of the field may mean notification of suspending power ramping counter has been received from lower layers for this RA attempt, otherwise it is absent.
[0078] ● Alt2: Number of notification of suspending power ramping counter has been received from lower layers for each beam used in the RA procedure. The beam type can be either SSB or CSI-RS.
[0079] ○ In another example this information can be counted as per RA procedure (or for a RA procedure)
[0080] ● Alt3: Number of times power is ramped-up in the RA procedure or the number of times power is ramped-up in the beam (SSB or CSI-RS) used in the RA procedure
[0081] ● Alt4: maximum transmission power used in the RA procedure (in another example, it maybe rephrased as the transmission power used for the last preamble transmission in the RA procedure)
[0082] ● Alt5: Transmission power level used for the last transmission in the RA procedure or in another example, it maybe rephrased as the maximum transmission power level used in the RA procedure
[0083] ○ One example the transmission power level discussed in alt 5 could be percentage of the maximum allowed transmission power, (e.g., 0.1, 0.2, ... 1) . When perform the calculation UE may round-up to the nearest number.
[0084] Example Embodiment 1a for Alt1:
[0085] The term suspensionIndication-rxx in PerRAAttemptInfo-r16 is an enumerated type IE, where the addition of the term suspensionIndication-rxx in PerRAAttemptInfo-r16 indicates that a notification of suspending power ramping counter has been received from lower layers.
[0086] In this example one indication (e.g., suspensionIndication-rxx ) with enumerated type is added in perRAAttemptInfo. The detailed meaning of this field is given in above field description. The terms xx in suspensionIndication-rxx refers to release number, which indicates at which release this indication is introduced (e.g., 18) .
[0087] The terminology used here is an example. When storing RA information, for each RA attempt, if notification of suspending power ramping counter has been received from lower layer for this RA attempt, UE includes suspensionIndication-rxx in the RA information stored.
[0088] Example Embodiment 1b for Alt1:
[0089] The term suspensionIndication-rxx in PerRAAttemptInfo-r16 is an Boolean type IE, where a value indicated in the field suspensionIndication-rxx indicates whether or not a notification of suspending power ramping counter has been received from lower layers.
[0090] In this example, one indication (e.g., suspensionIndication-rxx ) with boolean type is introduced in perRAAttemptInfo. The detailed meaning of this field is given in above field description. The terms xx in suspensionIndication-rxx refers to release number, which indicates at which release this indication is introduced (e.g., 18) .
[0091] The terminology used here is an example. When storing RA information, for each RA attempt, if notification of suspending power ramping counter has been received from lower layer for this RA attempt, UE set the value of suspensionIndication-rxx to 1, otherwise it is set to zero.
[0092] In another example the indication of the value can be reversed, e.g., value 0 may mean notification of suspending power ramping counter has been received from lower layer for this RA attempt, otherwise it is set to 1.
[0093] Example Embodiment 2a for Alt2:
[0094] In PerRAInfoList-vxxyy, xx may indicate release number, yy may indicate sub version within the release. An example could be xx equals 18, and yy equals to 00, which may mean this field is introduced in version zero of release 18.
[0095] In this example field to indicate the number notification of suspension indication used to suspend power ramping counter has been received from lower layers for a beam used for RA attempt has been introduced, which a integer type. In above example, this field has a value ranges from 1 to nn, with space or step of 1, and the nn is an integer number, a first example value could be 200. The selected beam type can be either SSB or CSI-RS.
[0096] When storing RA information, for consecutive RA attempts for the selected beam, if at least one notification of suspending power ramping counter has been received from lower layer, UE sets numberOfSuspensionReceived-rxx to indicate the number of notification of suspension indication has been received for this beam. If multiple notifications of suspending power ramping counter have been received from lower layer for the same RA attempt, they only will be counted as 1 notification. The selected beam type can be either SSB or CSI-RS.
[0097] In another example, value range could be from zero to nn. the nn here is an integer number, a first example value could be 200. In this example, when storing RA information, for consecutive RA attempts for the selected beam, UE sets the numberOfSuspensionReceived-rxx to indicate the number of notification of suspension indication has been received for this beam. If multiple notifications of suspending power ramping counter have been received from lower layer for the same RA attempt, they only will be counted as 1 notification. The selected beam type can be either SSB or CSI-RS. The terminology used here is only an example.
[0098] The difference between the two examples above is that in the first example, an absence of this information element (IE) is used to indicate value of zero, which can mean that if no notification of suspending power ramping counter has been received in the beam used for RA attempt, the UE doesn’t need to include this IE.
[0099] Example embodiment 2b for Alt2:
[0100] In this example field to indicate the number of notification of suspension indication used to suspend power ramping counter has been received from lower layers for RA procedure has been introduced, which is an integer type. In above example, this field has a value ranging from 1 to nn, with space or step of 1, and the nn is an integer number, a first example value could be 200.
[0101] If at least one notification of suspending power ramping counter has been received from lower layer, UE sets numberOfSuspensionReceived-rxx to indicate the number of notification of suspension indication has been received for the RA procedure. If multiple notifications of suspending power ramping counter have been received from lower layer for the same RA attempt, they only will be counted as 1 notification.
[0102] In another example value could be an integer number that may be in a range from zero to nn, where nn is an integer number. In one example, the value of nn may be 200. In this example, UE sets the numberOfSuspensionReceived-rxx to indicate the number of notification of suspension indication has been received for the RA procedure. If multiple notifications of suspending power ramping counter have been received from lower layer for the same RA attempt, they only will be counted as 1 notification.
[0103] The difference between the two examples above is that in the first example, an absence of this IE is used to indicate value of zero, which can mean that if no notification of suspending power ramping counter has been received, the UE doesn’ t need to include this IE.
[0104] The terminology used here to indicate the field indicating the number of suspension of power ramping counter for RA procedure is an example.
[0105] Example Embodiment 3a for Alt3:
[0106] In PerRAInfoList-vxxyy, xx may indicate release number, yy may indicate sub version within the release. An example could be xx equals 18, and yy equals to 00, which may mean this field is introduced in version zero of release 18.
[0107] In this example, a field is introduced to indicate the number of times preamble power ramping is performed for a beam, where this field is an integer type. In above example, this field has a value ranges from 1 to nn, with space or step of 1, and the nn is an integer number, a first example value could be 200, and another example value could be 199.
[0108] When storing RA information, for consecutive RA attempts for the selected beam , if UE has at least ramped up preamble power ramping counter once for the selected beam, UE sets numberOfPowerRamping-rxx to indicate the number preamble power ramping performed for this beam. The selected beam type can be either SSB or CSI-RS.
[0109] In another example value could be from an integer number that may be in a range from zero to nn, where nn is an integer number. In one example, the value of nn may be 199. In this example, when storing RA information, for consecutive RA attempts for the selected beam, UE sets thenumberOfPowerRamping-rxx to indicate the number preamble power ramping performed for this beam. And when no power ramping is performed, UE still sets the numberOfPowerRamping-rxx with value zero. The selected beam type can be either SSB or CSI-RS.
[0110] The terminology and value ranges listed here are examples.
[0111] Example embodiment 3b for Alt3:
[0112] In this example, a field is introduced to indicate the number of times preamble power ramping is performed for a RA procedure, where this field is an integer type. In above example, this field has a value ranges from 1 to nn, with space or step of 1, and the nn is an integer number, a first example value could be 200, and another example value could be 199.
[0113] When storing RA information, if UE has at least ramped up preamble power ramping counter once in the RA procedure, UE sets numberOfPowerRamping-rxx to indicate the number preamble power ramping performed during the RA procedure.
[0114] In another example value could be from integer number ranges from zero to 200 or zero to 199. In this example, when storing RA information, UE sets thenumberOfPowerRamping-rxx to indicate the number preamble power ramping performed for the RA procedure. And when no power ramping is performed, UE still sets the numberOfPowerRamping-rxx with value zero. The terminology and value range listed here is only an example.
[0115] Alt4: maximum transmission power used in the RA procedure (in another example, it maybe rephrased as the transmission power used for the last preamble transmission)
[0116] Example embodiment 4a for Alt4:
[0117] A field to indicate the maximum preamble power level received at the network receiver side during the RA procedure is introduced in RA-InformationCommon IE, which has a value range from aa and bb.
[0118] aa and bb are mathematical numbers, an example value range could be (-200.. -60) Other value range is also possible. In some example, within the range given in aa and bb, only multiples of 2 can be chosen. In some example the unit used for present the power level could be dBm.
[0119] When storing RA information, UE sets maxPreambleReceivedPower to indicate the maximum preamble power level received at the network receiver side during the RA procedure. The terminology and value range listed here is only an example.
[0120] In another example the IE is only included when configured maximum UE output power of the selected carrier is not reached. For example:
[0121] When storing RA information, if the maximum preamble power level received at the network receiver side is less than PCMAX, f, c of the selected carrier of the RA procedure (as specified in TS 38.321) , UE sets maxPreambleReceivedPower to indicate the maximum preamble power level received at the network receiver side during the RA procedure. The terminology and value range listed here is only an example.
[0122] In another example the maximum preamble power level received at the network receiver side during the RA procedure may be re-phased as the power level of the last preamble received at the NW’s side in the RA procedure. It is because currently during an RA procedure the power level can only be increased or kept but not be deduced. Therefore the power level of the last preamble received at NW’s side in the RA procedure can be used to indicate the maximum preamble power level received at the network receiver side in the RA procedure.
[0123] In yet another example, the PCMAX, f, c of the selected carrier of the RA procedure (as specified in TS 38.321) could be known to NW if the selected carrier type (UL or SUL) in the RA procedure is known to NW, then instead of reporting the actual power level used UE can report the percentage of the maximum preamble power level received at the network receiver side in the RA procedure.
[0124] Example embodiment 5a for Alt5:
[0125] A field to indicate the percentage of maximum preamble power level received at the network receiver side during the RA procedure is introduced in RA-InformationCommon IE, it can be a field with enumerated type. An example is given below:
[0126] When storing RA information, UE sets maxPreamblePowerReceivedPercentage-rxx to indicate the percentage of maximum preamble power level received at the network receiver side during the RA procedure compared to the PCMAX, f, c of the selected carrier of the RA procedure (as specified in TS 38.321) . In some example UE rounds the calculated to value to the closet value indicated. In another example UE rounds-up the calculated value to the closet smaller number, or in another example UE rounds-up the calculated value to the closet larger number. The terminology and value range listed here is only an example.
[0127] Example embodiment 5b for Alt5:
[0128] Another example to indicate the percentage of maximum preamble power level received at the network receiver side during the RA procedure is given as below:
[0129] When storing RA information, UE sets maxPreamblePowerReceivedPercentage-rxx to indicate the percentage of maximum preamble power level received at the network receiver side during the RA procedure compared to the PCMAX, f, c of the selected carrier of the RA procedure (as specified in TS 38.321) . In some example UE rounds the calculated to value to the closet value indicated. In another example UE rounds-up the calculated value to the closet smaller number, or in another UE rounds-up the calculated value to the closet larger number. The terminology and value range listed here is only an example.
[0130] Example embodiment 5c for Alt5:
[0131] When storing RA information, UE sets maxPreamblePowerReceivedPercentage-rxx to indicate the percentage of maximum preamble power level received at the network receiver side during the RA procedure compared to the PCMAX, f, c of the selected carrier of the RA procedure (as specified in TS 38.321) . In some example UE rounds the calculated to value to the closet value indicated. In another example UE rounds-up the calculated value to the closet smaller number, or in another UE rounds-up the calculated value to the closet larger number. The terminology and value range listed here is only an example.
[0132] For example given in 5a / 5b / 5c, the maximum preamble power level received at the network receiver side during the RA procedure may be re-phased as the power level of the last preamble received at the NW’s side in the RA procedure. It is because currently during an RA procedure the power level can only be increased or kept but not be deduced. Therefore the power level of the last preamble received at NW’s side in the RA procedure can be used to indicate the maximum preamble power level received at the network receiver side in the RA procedure.
[0133] III. B. Scheduling Request (SR) Purpose Indication
[0134] UE can transmit truncated BFR MAC CE or BFR MAC CE when BFR detected in SCells or LBT MAC CE when LBT was detected in SCells. If there are no available or valid UL resource can be used to transmit the corresponding MAC CEs, UE will trigger SR (Scheduling Request) to request UL resource to transmit BFR MAC CE or truncated BFR MAC CEs (in case the SR is triggered for BFR) or request UL resource to transmit LBT MAC CE (in case the SR is triggered for LBT) . It is optional for NW to configure to UE with dedicated SR configuration used for BFR and / or dedicated SR configuration for LBT, when dedicated SR resource is configured, UE can use the dedicated resource to transmit the SR.
[0135] For step 1:
[0136] As discussed in previous section, for LBT / BFR triggered in SCells, for a RACH with RA purpose set to (1) no valid SR PUCCH resources configured when SR is triggered or (2) SR failure. The optimization required might not only relevant to RACH configuration but is also relevant to SR configuration. Since the SR triggered could be due to BFR or LBT or other causes. Therefore in order to know which SR configuration NW may need to optimize, assisting information is needed to indicate the purpose of SR triggered (or in another words the event triggering the SR) when the RA procedure purpose is set to indicate SR failure or to indicate no valid SR PUCCH resource configured for the triggered SR. When storing RA information of an RA procedure with RA purpose set to indicate SR failure (e.g., schedulingRequestFailure ) or to indicate no valid SR PUCCH resource configured for the triggered SR (e.g., noPUCCHResourceAvailable) , one or more below alternatives can be considered to indicate the event that triggers the SR:
[0137] ● Alt1: One indication with enumerated type can be introduced to indicate the events that triggered the SR is {LBT, BFR} . In this example, spare bits may be introduced to allow future extension.
[0138] ● Alt2: Separate indications can be introduced to indicate the SR is triggered due LBT or due to BFR. E. g., presence of indication for LBT can be used to indicate the SR is triggered due to LBT; presence of indication for BFR can be used to indicate the SR is triggered due to BFR.
[0139] ● Alt3: One bit indication can be introduced to indicate the events that triggered the SR is LBT or BFR. For example, value 1 may mean SR is triggered due to LBT, value 0 may mean SR is triggered BFR. Or vice versa.
[0140] Example embodiment 1a for Alt1:
[0141] In some embodiments, the sr-Trigger field may be included in RA-InformationCommon that can be included in one or more reports transmitted by the UE to the NW.
[0142] The terminology used here is only an example.
[0143] Example embodiment 1b for Alt1:
[0144] In some embodiments, the sr-Trigger field may be included in RA-Report that can be transmitted by the UE to the NW.
[0145] The terminology used here is only an example.
[0146] ● Alt2: Separate indications can be introduced to indicate the SR is triggered due LBT or due to BFR. E.g., presence of LBT bit can be used to indicate the SR is triggered due to LBT; presence of BFR bit can be used to indicate the SR is due to BFR.
[0147] Example embodiment 2a for Alt2:
[0148] The terminology used here is only an example. In some example, only one of the two IE shown above is introduced.
[0149] Example embodiment 2b for Alt2:
[0150] The terminology used here is only an example. In some example, only one of the two IE shown above is introduced.
[0151] Example embodiment 3a for Alt3:
[0152] In another example the value zero may mean the SR is triggered due to BFR, while value 1 may mean the SR is triggered due to LBT. The terminology used here is only an example.
[0153] Example embodiment 3b for Alt3:
[0154] In another example the value zero may mean the SR is triggered due to BFR, while value 1 may mean the SR is triggered due to LBT. The terminology used here is only an example.
[0155] III. C. Information on number of LBT failure indication received
[0156] For step 1:
[0157] Currently UE may switch to another bandwidth part (BWP) to initiate RACH when consistent LBT failure is detected in current BWP. To allow NW to know from number of LBT failure detected in each BWPs would be beneficial for NW to understand the severity of LBT problems in each BWP. But to allow inclusion of this information, the overall signalling overhead would be quite large. Since UE will only initiate BWP switch when reaches the configured the number of LBT failures times to trigger consistent LBT failure (e.g., lbt-FailureInstanceMaxCount) , then by adding a new BWP information in the RA information stored by UE can be an implicit indication that UE has reached the configured the number of LBT failures times to trigger consistent LBT failure in previous BWP, in this case UE only needs to store the difference between (the total number of LBT failure detected in the BWP) and (the configured the number of LBT failures times to trigger consistent LBT failure ) , e.g., the remaining number of times LBT failure indication detected in the BWP, in the RA information. When NW receives this information from UE, NW is able to derive the total number LBT failure detected in the BWP by adding the remaining number of times LBT failure indication detected with the configured the number of LBT failures times to trigger consistent LBT failure. In one example, UE includes this remaining for each BWPs of successive RACH procedure triggered due to consistent LBT failure. In another example UE includes remaining for each BWPs of successive RACH procedure triggered due to consistent LBT failure, except for the last BWPs UE has attempted RACH
[0158] Below gives an example of how this information can be encoded in signalling.
[0159] A field indicates the remaining number of times LBT failure indication detected in the BWP is introduced in RA-InformationCommon IE. When storing the RA information, and the number of LBT failure indication detected in the BWP exceeds the configured number of LBT failures times to trigger consistent LBT failure of this BWP (. e., lbt-FailureInstanceMaxCount) , UE stores the field in the RA information stored, and set the value of this field to the value obtained by subtracting the configured the number of LBT failures times to trigger consistent LBT failure configured for the BWP (i.e., lbt-FailureInstanceMaxCount ) from the total number of LBT failures detected in the BWP.
[0160] In above example this field is an integer type that can have a value that may range from 1 to nn, with step of 1. The nn is an integer number. An example number for nn may be 128. In some example, UE obtains the value of this field by subtracting the configured the number of LBT failures times to trigger consistent LBT failure configured for the BWP (i.e., lbt-FailureInstanceMaxCount ) from the total number of LBT failures detected in the BWP. The terminology and value range listed here is only an example.
