Description

A METHOD OF SIDELINK BEAM-BASED OPERATIONField

[0001] The present disclosure relates a sidelink beam-based operation and resource allocation methodology.BACKGROUND

[0002] This design document targets to propose operation methods for SL devices to perform beam-based transmission. To improve SL throughput for commercial usecase (e.g., file droppings between smartphone, XR tethering between smartphone and wearable XR glasses) , FR2 frequency band is preferrable with large transmission bandwidth and short transmission latency. Beamformed transmission / reception on FR2 frequency band is necessary to overcome pathloss, reduce interference and improve coverage. With beam paired transmission link, a sidelink (SL) beam-based resource allocation procedure is required to select resource for transmission.SUMMARY

[0003] The following presents a simplified summary of one or more aspects in order to provide a basic understanding of such aspects. This summary is not an extensive overview of all contemplated aspects, and is intended to neither identify key or critical elements of all aspects nor delineate the scope of any or all aspects. Its sole purpose is to present some concepts of one or more aspects in a simplified form as a prelude to the more detailed description that is presented later.

[0004] In an aspect of the disclosure, a method of SL beam-based resource allocation is applied. The SL device determines a sensing spatial domain to perform sensing by a RX spatial (domain) filter. The SL device performs sensing by a RX spatial (domain) filter and collects sensing results. The SL device performs resource exclusion by the sensing results and gets a candidate resource set for the sensing spatial domain. The SL device selects resource from the candidate resource set and the transmission spatial domain for the selected resources is covered by the sensing spatial domain. The SL device reserves the selected resources. The SL device may perform resource selection by preempting lower priority resources. The SL device reevaluates the selected / reserved resources on the spatial domain. The SL device my reselects the selected / reserved resources on another spatial domain. The SL device performs transmission on the reserved resource of the transmission spatial domain by TX spatial domain filter.

[0005] To the accomplishment of the foregoing and related ends, the one or more aspects comprise the features hereinafter fully described and particularly pointed out in the claims. The following description and the annexed drawings set forth in detail certain illustrative features of the one or  more aspects. These features are indicative, however, of but a few of the various ways in which the principles of various aspects may be employed, and this description is intended to include all such aspects and their equivalents.BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

[0006] FIG. 1 illustrates an example of spatial domain attaching to beam index.

[0007] FIG. 2 illustrates an example of spatial domain attaching to different beam indexes.

[0008] FIG. 3 multiple RPs configuration on TDD pattern for multiple spatial domains resource allocation.DETAILED DESCRIPTION

[0009] The detailed description set forth below in connection with the appended drawings is intended as a description of various configurations and is not intended to represent the only configurations in which the concepts described herein may be practiced. The detailed description includes specific details for the purpose of providing a thorough understanding of various concepts. However, it will be apparent to those skilled in the art that these concepts may be practiced without these specific details. In some instances, well known structures and components are shown in block diagram form in order to avoid obscuring such concepts.

[0010] Several aspects of telecommunication systems will now be presented with reference to various apparatus and methods. These apparatus and methods will be described in the following detailed description and illustrated in the accompanying drawings by various blocks, components, circuits, processes, algorithms, etc. (collectively referred to as “elements” ) . These elements may be implemented using electronic hardware, computer software, or any combination thereof. Whether such elements are implemented as hardware or software depends upon the particular application and design constraints imposed on the overall system.

[0011] SL resource allocation mode2 procedure includes resource exclusion, (re) selection, reservation, pre-emption, reevaluation. The general steps of resource allocation are described as following:

[0012] 1. SL device performs sensing within SL sensing window based on system configuration. During the sensing window, device decodes SCI carried in PSCCH to collect other device’s reservation information.

[0013] 2. Device excludes reserved resources from candidate resources within resource selection window. The resource exclusion is performed based on a RSRP threshold  and reservation priority.

[0014] 3. Device performs resource selection among candidate resources within resource selection window. The resource selection procedure randomly selects resource.

[0015] 4. Device reserves resource through SCI transmission. The reservation can be periodic reservation by RRI value or aperiodic reservation by indicating reserved slots and subchannels.

[0016] 5. If device’s packet to be transmitted has higher priority than other device’s reserved transmission, the device can preempt other device’s transmission by transmitting and / or reserving on other device’s reservation resource.

[0017] 6. Device continues to perform sensing before packet transmission. If new reservation information is received that collided with the device’s reservation resource, device drops the reserved resource and performs resource reevaluation to select new resource for transmission

[0018] 7. Device transmits on the selected / reserved resource.

[0019] SL resource allocation mode2 aims to solve the transmission collision issue in distributed network and uncoordinated service.

[0020] When SL device performs beam-based operation, the reservation and data transmission is directional including PSCCH and PSSCH transmission. The sensing and data receiving is also directional for PSSCH and PSSCH receiving. When transmission and reception are directional between SL devices, the SL resource allocation is divided into spatial domain. SL sensing is performed on a spatial domain by a spatial domain RX filter, where a spatial (domain) RX filter can be a RX beam or multiplexed RX beam (s) . SL reservation is transmitted on a spatial domain by a spatial domain TX filter, where a spatial (domain) TX filter can be a TX beam or multiplexed TX beam (s) . SL transmission is performed on a spatial domain by a spatial domain TX filter, where a spatial (domain) TX filter can be a TX beam or multiplexed TX beam (s) .

[0021] SL beam-based resource allocation procedure is described into following steps:

[0022] 1. Device determines a spatial domain m to perform sensing

[0023] 2. [Sensing] During sensing window, device perform sensing on the spatial domain m

[0024] 3. [Exclusion] Device excludes reserved resource from candidate resources within resource selection window on the spatial domain m1 and get a candidate resource set on the spatial domain m1.

[0025] 4. [Selection] Device performs resource selection within the candidate resource set on the spatial domain m1

[0026] 5. [Reservation] Device reserves for the resource selected on spatial domain m1 through SCI transmission on PSCCH

[0027] 6. [Preemption during resource selection] If device’s packet to be transmitted has higher priority than other device’s reserved transmission on the spatial domain m2, the device can preempt other device’s transmission by transmitting and / or reserving on other device’s reservation resource on the spatial domain m1.

[0028] 7. [Resource reevaluation] Device continues to perform sensing before packet transmission. If new reservation information is received that collided with the device’s reservation resource on the spatial domain m1, device drops the reserved resource on the spatial domain m1 and performs resource reevaluation to select new resource for transmission on the spatial domain m1.

[0029] 8. [Resource reselection triggered by spatial domain mismatch] Device continues to perform beam management, if new beam is activated and / or spatial domain m3 is selected for transmission, device drops the reserved resource and selects new resources with new activated beam and / or on new spatial domain m3. If there are not enough sensing results within sensing window size collected on new spatial domain m4 for resource selection, device may perform sensing on new spatial domain m4.

[0030] 9. [Transmission] Device transmits on the selected / reserved resource on the corresponding spatial domain m5.

[0031] The following paragraphs describe the definitions and values of the above-mentioned steps for resource allocation procedure:

[0032] (A) Definition of spatial domain: a spatial domain m can be defined as one or multiple options as following:

[0033] 1. [Case of beam corresponding] sensing on a spatial domain is performed by a RX spatial domain filter (e.g., RX beam or multiplexed RX beam (s) ) . Transmission on a spatial domain is performed by a TX spatial domain filter (e.g., TX beam or multiplexed TX beam (s) ) . The TX / RX beam are derived by beam correspondence. The TX / RX beam are identified by beam index and / or reference resource and / or TCI / QCL information (As shown in FIG 1. )

[0034] 2. [Case of non beam corresponding] sensing on a spatial domain is performed by a RX spatial domain filter (e.g., RX beam or multiplexed RX beam (s) ) . Transmission on a spatial domain is performed by a TX spatial domain filter (e.g., TX beam or multiplexed TX beam (s) ) . The TX / RX beam are not derived by beam correspondence (e.g., the TX beam can be a narrow beam while RX beam is a coarse beam) . The TX / RX beam are identified by beam index and / or reference resource and / or TCI / QCL information

[0035] 3. [Case of multiple beams] a sensing spatial domain is attached to multiple RX beam (s) and / or corresponding multiplexed beam (s) . The sensing performed by a beam of multiple RX  beam (s) are defined as the sensing performing on the same spatial domain. The multiple RX beam (s) can be the

[0036] i. candidate RX beams of a serving link

[0037] ii. active RX beams of a serving link

[0038] iii. adjacent RX beams of the device

[0039] iv. candidate RX beams (pre) -configured or determined by the device

[0040] a transmission spatial domain is attached to multiple TX beam (s) and / or corresponding multiplexed beam (s) . The transmission performed by a beam of multiple TX beam (s) are defined as the sensing performing on the same spatial domain. The multiple TX beam (s) can be the

[0041] v. candidate TX beams of a serving link

[0042] vi. active TX beams of a serving link

[0043] vii. adjacent TX beams of the device

[0044] viii. candidate RX beams (pre) -configured or determined by the device

[0045] The TX / RX beam are identified by beam index and / or reference resource and / or TCI / QCL information.

[0046] 4. [Case of absolute position / direction] a sensing spatial domain is related to an absolute position / direction (e.g., north or south) of the device in local area. When the device is rotating and moving, the sensing spatial domain will be performed by different RX beam. The RX beam to be used is pointing to the absolute position / direction of the device at the sensing slot. A transmission spatial domain is related to an absolute position / direction (e.g., north or south) of the device in local area. When the device is rotating and moving, the transmission spatial domain will be performed by different TX beam. The TX beam to be used is pointing to the absolute position / direction of the device at the transmission slot. The TX / RX beam index (s)  / resource (s) can be related to the absolute position / direction (As shown in FIG 2. )

[0047] (B) Determination of spatial domain: Device needs to first determines a sensing spatial domain to perform sensing before starting to perform resource allocation procedure. The sensing is performed by applying a RX spatial domain filter. To determine the spatial domain m where device performs sensing during sensing window with a spatial domain filter, device considers its serving links and / or serving beams toward its serving devices.

[0048] 1. [Case where a resource is selected / reserved first] In the case where device already has a selected / reserved resource for transmission, the device adopts the spatial domain of the selected / reserved resource to perform sensing.

[0049] An embodiment is, the device reserved a transmission that is expected to be transmitted by TX beam index#0, the device determines the sensing spatial domain performed by RX beam  index#0, where TX beam index#0 and RX beam index#0 are derived by beam correspondence and belongs to same spatial domain.

[0050] 2. [Case of a single serving link] In the case where device maintains a single serving link, the device may adopt the spatial domain of serving link or serving beam (s) from candidate beam set to perform sensing.

[0051] An embodiment is given here: the serving link of the device is maintained with a TX beam set and a RX beam set, the device adopts a beam from RX beam set to perform sensing. The TX beam set and RX beam set are defined to be the same spatial domain

[0052] 3. [Case of multiple serving links] In the case where device maintains multiple serving links and / or serving beam pairs, the device prioritizes the serving links and / or serving beam pairs with higher traffic priority and / or strict latency requirement and / or periodic traffic with closest next packet arrival time and / or higher scheduling priority. Device determines the spatial domain to perform sensing based on the prioritized serving link (s) and / or serving beam pair (s) by one or multiple method described as following embodiments.

[0053] i. [Multiple serving links on same spatial domain] If the prioritized serving links and / or serving beam pairs share the same spatial domain for device to perform sensing by a spatial domain filter (e.g., a beam) , the spatial domain is adopted for sensing.

[0054] ii. [Multiple serving links on different spatial domain, perform sensing / reservation in order] If the prioritized serving links and / or serving beam pairs are on different spatial domains for device to perform sensing, one spatial domain is adopted by device to perform sensing by first spatial domain filter for first sensing window. And device switches to another spatial domain to perform sensing by second spatial domain filter for second sensing window.

[0055] iii. [Multiple serving links on different spatial domain, perform sensing / reservation by spatial domain switching] If the prioritized serving links and / or serving beam pairs are on different spatial domains for device to perform sensing, one spatial domain is adopted by device to perform sensing by first spatial domain filter for a sensing window. And device switches to another spatial domain to perform sensing by second spatial domain filter for the sensing window. The sensing spatial domain switching is performed within the sensing window

[0056] iv. [Multiple serving links on different spatial domain, perform sensing / reservation on wider spatial domain] If the prioritized serving links are and / or serving beam pairs on different spatial domains, a wider spatial domain (e.g., coarse beam / wider spatial coverage) that covering multiple spatial domains is adopted by device to perform sensing by a spatial domain filter for a sensing window. Several embodiments of the spatial domain filter are given as followings:

[0057] 1. The spatial domain filter can be generated by enabling 2 panel simultaneous sensing if supported

[0058] 2. The spatial domain filter can be generated by a coarse beam

[0059] 3. The spatial domain filter can be generated by multiplexed multiple beams (e.g., MIMO, or MU-MIMO)

[0060] 4. In the case where device is providing broadcast or groupcast service, the device determines the transmission spatial domain m5 that its transmission needs to cover. The device then considers its traffic (e.g., Device considers targeting latency that the transmission performs on the spatial domain m5) , its capability (e.g., number of supported beams, coarse or narrow TX / RX beam, simultaneous multiple panel RX sensing, support of TX / RX MIMO) , its targeting serving distance (e.g., long distance service needs to be transmitted with narrow TX beam, short distance service can be covered by coarse TX beam) . Device determines one or multiple spatial domain TX filter (s) to apply for each transmission to cover the targeting transmission spatial domain m5. Device determines one or multiple spatial domain RX filter (s) to apply for one or multiple sensing window (s) to perform sensing in order to select resources for each transmission. The one or multiple spatial domain RX filter (s) can at least cover the transmission spatial domain m5. Following embodiments are provided for device to perform sensing and transmission

[0061] i. Device determines 2 RX sensing filters, RX beam#0 and RX beam#1. Device also determines 3 TX transmission filters, TX beam#0 , TX beam#1, TX beam#2, where RX beam#0 covers TX beam#0’s spatial domain and RX beam#1 covers TX beam#1 and TX beam#2’s spatial domains. Device applies RX beam#0 within first sensing window and selects resources for transmission with TX beam#0. Device applies RX beam#1 within second sensing window and selects resources for transmission with TX beam#1 and TX beam#2. Device transmits on the selected resources with the corresponding beams. The overall transmission covers groupcast serving spatial domain.

[0062] ii. Device determines 2 RX sensing filters, RX beam#0 and RX beam#1. Device also determines 2 TX transmission filters, TX beam#0, TX beam#1, where RX beam#0 covers TX beam#0’s spatial domain and RX beam#1 covers TX beam#1’s spatial domain. RX beam#0 and RX beam#1 covers 360-degree horizontal sensing angle. TX beam#0 and TX beam#1 covers 360-degree horizontal serving angle for broadcast service. Device applies RX beam#0 and RX beam#1 within a sensing window by beam switching (on time domain) or beam multiplexing (on spatial domain) . With sensing results on 360-degree horizontal spatial domain from the sensing window, device performs resource selection for TX beam#0 and TX beam#1. Device then performs transmissions on the selected resources with the corresponding selection beam.

[0063] 5. If device is capable of performing transmission with multiplexed TX beams (e.g., MIMO) , all of the resource selection / reservation on each spatial domain can be independent. However, if device is not capable of performing transmission with multiplexed TX beams (e.g.,  SISO) , the selected / reserved resources on different spatial domain cannot be overlapped on same time slot. Device needs to perform resource allocation considering cross spatial domains’ resource allocation map.

[0064] (C) Relationship between spatial domains can be describes as one or multiple relation as following:

[0065] 1. m1 is covered by m or m1 is equal to m.

[0066] 2. m2 is at least partial or full overlapped with m1.

[0067] 3. m3 is not equal to m1.

[0068] 4. m4 at least covers or equal to m3

[0069] 5. m5 is at least covered by m1 without reselection.

[0070] (C) Determination of sensing window size: The sensing window size may be

[0071] 1. (pre-) configured or,

[0072] 2. [max reservation window (legacy) ] determined by maximum value of SCI reservation window size and periodic resource reservation interval (RRI) value

[0073] 3. [finer beam / smaller coverage] determined by sensing spatial domain and / or transmission spatial domain, since device with smaller serving spatial domain introduces less interference probability toward other devices and receives less interference from other devices. One embodiment is that, if transmission beam width is narrow and / or transmission power is smaller and / or serving distance is shorter, the sensing window size may be shorter

[0074] 4. [CBR / CR] determined by SL congestion control value, i.e., channel busy ratio (CBR) and channel occupation ratio (CR) . One embodiment is, if channel is less congested, the collision probability toward other devices is lower, and the interference received from other devices is also lower

[0075] 5. [Moving speed] determined by device moving speed and / or rotation speed, since device with faster movement collects sensing result with little accuracy. One embodiment is, if device moving / rotating with higher speed, the sensing window size may be smaller.

[0076] (D) Determination of resource selection window size: The resource selection window size may be determined up to UE implementation considering one of multiple values:

[0077] 1. packet delay deadline

[0078] 2. (pre-) configured resource selection window size

[0079] 3. [finer beam / smaller coverage] sensing spatial domain and / or transmission spatial domain. Device with smaller serving spatial domain introduces less interference probability toward other devices and receives less interference from other devices. One embodiment is that, if transmission beam width is narrow and / or transmission power is smaller and / or serving distance is shorter, the sensing window size may be shorter

[0080] 4. [CBR / CR] determined by SL congestion control value, i.e., channel busy ratio (CBR) and channel occupation ratio (CR) . One embodiment is, if channel is less congested, the collision probability toward other devices is lower, and the interference received from other devices is also lower

[0081] 5. [Moving speed] device moving speed and / or rotation speed (If device moving / rotating with higher speed, the resource selection is less effective for transmission collision avoidance)

[0082] 6. moving speed and / or rotation speed. Device with faster movement causes resource selection to be less effective for transmission collision avoidance effect. One embodiment is, if device moving / rotating with higher speed, the selection window size may be smaller.

[0083] (E) Reservation of resource through SCI transmission on PSCCH: device reserves the selected resources through SCI. The reservation can be aperiodic reservation or periodic reservation. For aperiodic reservation, the maximum reserving time slot is bounded by SCI transmitting time plus reservation window size. For periodic reservation, the reservation time slot is indicated by RRI value. Following details may be considered for resource reservation:

[0084] 1. [High speed case, reservation window size is reduced] If device is moving / rotating with high speed, the resource reservation spatial domain that pointing to absolute direction A may not be the same with real transmission spatial domain that pointing to absolute direction B after rotation when the time gap between reservation and transmission is large. In this sense, the valid resource reservation maximum time slot may be closer. The SCI reservation window size and RRI value should be smaller.

[0085] 2. [High speed case, coarse beam is adopted] If device is moving / rotating with high speed, the resource reservation spatial domain may not be the same with real transmission spatial domain when the time gap between reservation and transmission is large. Device may reserve and / or transmit resource on a wider spatial domain by a spatial domain filter (e.g., coarse TX / RX beam) to reduce the rotated spatial domain mismatch issue

[0086] 3. [Case that reservation resource’s transmitting beam is particularly indicated in SCI reservation] The resource reservation’s spatial domain at SCI transmission should cover the spatial domain of real data transmission. If an indication I of reserving spatial domain is carried in SCI, the resource reservation’s spatial domain can be different to the spatial domain of real data transmission, where the real data transmission’s spatial domain is indicated by I. I is beam index or reference resource.

[0087] (F) Transmission of selected / reserved resource: Device transmits resource on the selected / reserved spatial domain with corresponding TX spatial domain filter (s) . The transmission includes SCI on PSCCH and data on PSSCH. Following details may be considered for  transmission:

[0088] 1. The transmission spatial domain of PSCCH should at least cover the transmission spatial domain of PSSCH (e.g., the beam of PSCCH is wider or equal to the beam of PSSCH transmission) .

[0089] In order to get higher throughput and better performance, following decisions may be applied to beam selection / beam management by the device:

[0090] 1. [Strategy 1: Select transmission spatial domain with lower CBR] Device may determine the transmission spatial domain and the corresponding TX spatial domain filter (e.g., TX beam) toward its peer device based on measured CBR value and / or estimated CR value. By choosing a transmission spatial domain with lower CBR value, device may apply a smaller resource selection window size for resource selection because less probability of transmission collision may occur. A shorter resource selection window size reduces packet transmission latency and increases throughput.

[0091] 2. [Strategy 2: IUC] Device may report its preferred resource and / or non-preferred resource set on the serving spatial domain performed by RX spatial domain filter towards its peer device for following enhancement

[0092] i. Hidden node problem caused by directional sensing

[0093] ii. Half duplex issue if device does not support space division multiplexing (SDM) operation (e.g., device does not support MIMO or device does not support simultaneous reception on multiple spatial domain for transmission from multiple peer devices) .

[0094] 3. [Strategy 3: TDD resource pool configuration to reduce beam switching sensing / reservation latency] Device performs sensing and reservation per each spatial domain with corresponding TX / RX spatial domain filters. When device updates serving spatial domain filter to another spatial domain (e.g., TX beam is updated) toward its peer device, the device may need to perform sensing by another RX spatial domain filter within a sensing window size again in order to perform resource selection for updated TX beam. In this case, a minimum latency equal to the sensing window size is introduced when beam switches. To reduce the latency, a TDD RP configuration is applied. E.g., multiple RPs are configured into TDD pattern as in FIG3. The resource reservation of each RP is independent, where SCI transmitted in RP1 only reserves resource in RP1. Device can perform sensing on a spatial domain m on RP1 and perform sensing on another spatial domain m’ on RP2. When device switches transmission spatial domain from m to m’, it selects resource on RP2 without introducing latency of a sensing window size.

[0095] 4. [Strategy 4: device chooses to use a multiplexed beam to perform sensing] Device performs sensing on wider spatial domain with multiplexed RX spatial domain filter (multiplexed  by RX beam#0 and RX beam#1) . TX beam#0 is correspondence to RX beam#0 on same spatial domain and TX beam#1 is correspondence to RX beam#1 on same spatial domain. The device currently adopts TX beam#0 as transmission beam. When device updates serving beam to another spatial domain (e.g., TX beam is updated from TX beam#0 to TX beam#1) toward its peer device, because device already performed sensing on wider spatial domain with multiplexed RX spatial domain filter, the device don’ t need to perform another sensing window by RX beam#1. Device performs resource selection based on the sensing results on wider spatial domain, the beam switching latency causing by extra sensing window is reduced.
