Abstract
Description
Device and method for supporting terminal mobility in a wireless communication system
[0001] The present disclosure relates to a device and method for supporting the mobility of a terminal when communicating using a cellular network and a satellite radio access network (RAN) in a wireless communication system.
[0002] 5G mobile communication technology defines a wide frequency band to enable fast transmission speeds and new services, and can be implemented not only in the sub-6GHz frequency band such as 3.5 gigahertz (3.5GHz), but also in the ultra-high frequency band called millimeter wave (mmWave) such as 28GHz and 39GHz ('Above 6GHz'). In addition, for 6G mobile communication technology, which is called the system after 5G communication (Beyond 5G), implementation in the terahertz band (for example, the 3 terahertz (3THz) band at 95GHz) is being considered to achieve a transmission speed that is 50 times faster than 5G mobile communication technology and an ultra-low latency time that is reduced to one-tenth.
[0003] In the early stages of 5G mobile communication technology, the goal is to support services and satisfy performance requirements for enhanced Mobile Broadband (eMBB), Ultra-Reliable Low-Latency Communications (URLLC), and massive Machine-Type Communications (mMTC). These include beamforming and massive MIMO to mitigate path loss of radio waves in ultra-high frequency bands and increase the transmission distance of radio waves, support for various numerologies (such as operation of multiple subcarrier intervals) and dynamic operation of slot formats for efficient use of ultra-high frequency resources, initial access technology to support multi-beam transmission and wideband, definition and operation of BWP (Bidth Part), new channel coding methods such as LDPC (Low Density Parity Check) codes for large-capacity data transmission and Polar Code for reliable transmission of control information, and L2 pre-processing (L2). Standardization has been made for network slicing, which provides dedicated networks specialized for specific services, and pre-processing.
[0004] Currently, discussions are underway to improve and enhance the initial 5G mobile communication technology in consideration of the services that 5G mobile communication technology was intended to support, and physical layer standardization is in progress for technologies such as V2X (Vehicle-to-Everything) to help autonomous vehicles make driving decisions and increase user convenience based on their own location and status information transmitted by vehicles, NR-U (New Radio Unlicensed) for the purpose of system operation that complies with various regulatory requirements in unlicensed bands, NR terminal low power consumption technology (UE Power Saving), Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN), which is direct terminal-satellite communication to secure coverage in areas where communication with terrestrial networks is impossible, and Positioning.
[0005] In addition, standardization of wireless interface architecture / protocols is in progress for technologies such as intelligent factories (Industrial Internet of Things, IIoT) to support new services through linkage and convergence with other industries, Integrated Access and Backhaul (IAB) that provides nodes for expanding network service areas by integrating wireless backhaul links and access links, Mobility Enhancement technology including Conditional Handover and Dual Active Protocol Stack (DAPS) handover, and 2-step random access (2-step RACH for NR) that simplifies random access procedures. Standardization is also in progress for system architecture / services such as 5G baseline architecture (e.g., Service-based Architecture, Service-based Interface) for grafting Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) and Software-Defined Networking (SDN) technologies, and Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) that provides services based on the location of the terminal.
[0006] Once these 5G mobile communication systems are commercialized, an explosive increase in connected devices will be connected to the communication network, necessitating enhanced functionality and performance of 5G mobile communication systems and integrated operation of these connected devices. To this end, new research will be conducted on improving 5G performance and reducing complexity, supporting AI services, supporting metaverse services, and drone communications by utilizing eXtended Reality (XR), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Machine Learning (ML) to efficiently support Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), and Mixed Reality (MR).
[0007] In addition, the development of these 5G mobile communication systems includes new waveforms to ensure coverage in the terahertz band of 6G mobile communication technology, multi-antenna transmission technologies such as Full Dimensional MIMO (FD-MIMO), Array Antenna, and Large Scale Antenna, metamaterial-based lenses and antennas to improve the coverage of terahertz band signals, high-dimensional spatial multiplexing technology using Orbital Angular Momentum (OAM), Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface (RIS) technology, as well as full duplex technology to improve the frequency efficiency and system network of 6G mobile communication technology, satellite, AI (Artificial Intelligence) from the design stage and AI-based communication technology that realizes system optimization by internalizing end-to-end AI support functions, and ultra-high-performance communication and computing resources to provide services with complexity that exceeds the limits of terminal computing capabilities. It can serve as a basis for the development of next-generation distributed computing technologies that can be realized by utilizing them.
[0008] When a terminal uses satellite communications or a cellular network while on the move, satellite coverage varies depending on the satellite type, unlike typical 5G NR (new radio) small cells. Accordingly, measures are needed to manage terminal registration, terminal state transitions, and terminal mobility, taking into account the mobility of the terminal.
[0009] For example, if a terminal is in an area where satellite RAN service is available, but the terminal's subscription changes, or satellite RAN service is restricted to roaming terminals, the need for a method to restrict or not provide service to each terminal has arisen even though satellite RAN service is physically available.
[0010] The purpose of the present invention is to provide a device and method for supporting the mobility of a terminal when using satellite communication and a 5G cellular network in a wireless communication system.
[0011] In order to solve the above problem, according to one embodiment of the present disclosure, a method performed by a terminal in a wireless communication system may include the steps of transmitting a first registration request message to a first access and mobility management function (AMF) entity of a first visited public land mobile network (VPLMN), receiving a registration rejection message including at least one of PLMN information and information on whether to allow satellite RAN (radio access network) access from a first AMF entity of the first VPLMN as a response to the first registration request message, and transmitting a second registration request message to a second AMF entity of a second VPLMN based on reception of the registration rejection message.
[0012] Meanwhile, in a wireless communication system according to another embodiment of the present disclosure, a terminal may include a control unit configured to transmit a first registration request message to a first access and mobility management function (AMF) entity of a first VPLMN (visited public land mobile network) through a transceiver, receive a registration rejection message including at least one of PLMN information and information on whether to allow satellite RAN (radio access network) access from a first AMF entity of the first VPLMN as a response to the first registration request message through the transceiver, and transmit a second registration request message to a second AMF entity of a second VPLMN through the transceiver based on reception of the registration rejection message.
[0013] According to one embodiment of the present invention, when a terminal served by a satellite RAN and a cellular RAN having a wider coverage than a 5G cell or an LTE cell moves and changes its location, the terminal can perform mobility management by successfully performing a state transition of the terminal in relation to mobility.

[0031] The terms used in the following description to identify connection nodes, terms referring to network entities, terms referring to messages, terms referring to interfaces between network entities, and terms referring to various identification information are provided as examples for convenience of explanation. Therefore, the present disclosure is not limited to the terms described below, and other terms referring to objects with equivalent technical meanings may be used.
[0032] For the convenience of explanation below, the present disclosure uses terms and names defined in the 3rd Generation Partnership Project Long Term Evolution (3GPP LTE) standard or the 3GPP NR standard, or terms and names modified based thereon. However, the present disclosure is not limited to the above-described terms and names, and may be equally applied to systems conforming to other standards. In the present disclosure, a base station is an entity that performs resource allocation to a user equipment (UE), and may be at least one of a gNode B, a gNB, an eNode B, an eNB, a Node B, a BS, a RAN (radio access network), a NG-RAN (next generation-RAN), a satellite-RAN, a base station controller, or a node on a network. The base station may provide network access to the UE(s) in an LTE system or an NR system. For the convenience of explanation, eNB and gNB may be used interchangeably. For example, a base station described as an eNB may represent a gNB. In the present disclosure, the term terminal may refer to various wireless communication devices, including mobile phones, NB (narrow band)-IoT devices, and sensors.
[0033] For example, in specifically describing the embodiments of the present disclosure, the communication standards specified by 3GPP will be the main target, but the main gist of the present disclosure can be applied to other communication systems with similar technical backgrounds with slight modifications within a range that does not significantly deviate from the scope of the present disclosure, and this can be done at the discretion of a person skilled in the technical field of the present disclosure.
[0034] In 5G or NR systems, the Access and Mobility Management Function (AMF), which is the management entity that manages the mobility of terminals, and the Session Management Function (SMF), which is the entity that manages sessions, are separated. Accordingly, unlike in 4G LTE communication systems where the Mobility Management Entity (MME) performed both mobility management and session management, in 5G or NR systems, the entities that perform mobility management and session management are separated into the AMF and the SMF, respectively, which has changed the communication method and communication management method between terminals and network entities.
[0035] In 5G or NR systems, non-3GPP access can be managed through the AMF via the Non-3GPP Inter-Working Function (N3IWF), with mobility management performed through the AMF and session management performed through the SMF. Furthermore, security-related information, a crucial element in mobility management, can be processed through the AMF.
[0036] When a terminal uses satellite communication in a mobility situation, the satellite coverage covers various coverages depending on the satellite type, unlike the general 5G NR cell (or small cell). Accordingly, a method for processing terminal registration for terminal mobility is required.
[0037] In the case of 5G cells or LTE cells, the area covered by the 5G NR or LTE base station is limited. Therefore, the AMF or MME can know the location of the UE based on the 5G NR or LTE base station, and can know the last visited tracking area (last visited TA) of the UE when the UE performs a registration request. However, with the introduction of satellites as an access type in 5G, the radius covered by the cell has expanded to tens of thousands of kilometers or hundreds of kilometers depending on the satellite type. As shown in Fig. 1, the radius of the satellite RAN that the UE accesses can cover a wide area, including a single country or even neighboring countries.
[0038] According to one embodiment of the present disclosure, a method is disclosed in which, although a terminal is physically capable of satellite RAN service in an area where satellite RAN service is available, satellite RAN use service is limited for each terminal due to conditions such as a change in the terminal's subscription or restrictions on satellite RAN service for roaming terminals, or satellite RAN use is not provided and general 5G RAN is used. To this end, a method and device for controlling a satellite RAN, a terminal communicating with a cellular network, and an AMF, etc. are described.
[0039] FIG. 1 illustrates a terminal and network environment for wireless communication in an environment supporting 5G communication and satellite communication according to one embodiment of the present disclosure.
[0040] Referring to FIG. 1, a 5G or NR core network may include network functions (NFs) such as a User Plane Function (UPF, 131), a Session Management Function (SMF, 121), an Access and Mobility Management Function (AMF, 111), a 5G Radio Access Network (RAN, 103), a User Data Management (UDM, 151), and a Policy Control Function (PCF, 161). In addition, for authentication of the above entities, entities such as an Authentication Server Function (AUSF, 141) and an authentication, authorization, and accounting (AAA, 171) may be included in the 5G or NR core network.
[0041] The above AMF (111) is an entity for managing access and mobility of the UE (101). For example, the AMF (111) can perform network functions such as registration, connection, reachability, mobility management, access confirmation, authentication, and mobility event generation of the UE (101).
[0042] The above SMF (121) can perform a management function for a PDU (Protocol Data Unit) session of the UE (101). For example, the SMF (121) can perform a session management function through the establishment, modification, and release of sessions and the maintenance of a tunnel between the UPF (131) and the RAN (103) required therefor, an IP (Internet Protocol) address allocation and management function of the UE (101), user plane selection and control, traffic processing control in the UPF (131), and charging data collection control, etc., and network functions.
[0043] The above UPF (131) performs the role of processing data of the UE (101), and can perform the role of processing data so that data transmitted by the UE (101) can be transmitted to an external network or data received from an external network can be transmitted to the UE (101). For example, the UPF (131) can perform network functions such as serving as an anchor between radio access technologies (RATs), packet routing and forwarding, packet inspection, user plane policy application, traffic usage report creation, buffering, etc.
[0044] The above UDM (151) can perform functions such as generating authentication information for 3GPP security, processing user identifiers (User IDs), managing a list of network functions (NFs) supporting terminals (101), and managing subscription information.
[0045] The above PCF (161) is an NF that manages operator policy information for providing services in a 5G system.
[0046] A UE (User Equipment or Terminal) (101) can access a 5G core network through a 5G base station (5G RAN103). Meanwhile, an N3IWF (N3 interworking function) may exist for cases where the UE communicates through a non-3GPP connection. In the case of communication through a non-3GPP connection, session management is controlled by the UE (101), the non-3GPP connection, the N3IWF, and the SMF (121), and mobility management of the non-3GPP connection can be controlled by the UE (101), the non-3GPP connection, the N3IWF, and the AMF (111).
[0047] As described above, in 4G LTE systems, the MME is responsible for both mobility management and session management. In 5G systems, the entities performing mobility management and session management are separated into the AMF (111) and the SMF (121), respectively. Meanwhile, 5G systems are considering a stand-alone (SA) deployment architecture, in which communication is performed only by 5G entities, and a non-SA deployment architecture, in which 4G and 5G entities are used together.
[0048] As shown in Fig. 1, when the UE (101) communicates with the network, control of the UE (101) is performed by the base station (103, 104), and a configuration in which a 5G network entity of the core network is used may be possible. In this case, mobility management between the UE (101) and the AMF (111) and session management between the UE (101) and the SMF (121) may be performed in the NAS (Non Access Stratum) layer, also known as Layer 3.
[0049] The communication network on which this disclosure is based assumes a 5G NR or 4G LTE network, but the same concept can be applied to other systems within a scope that can be understood by a person with ordinary technical skills.
[0050] Meanwhile, FIG. 2 is a sequence diagram for explaining a procedure for performing communication in an environment where 5G communication and satellite communication are supported according to one embodiment of the present disclosure.
[0051] According to one embodiment, FIG. 2 illustrates an embodiment in which a terminal operates when a subscription change in a home public land mobile network (HPLMN) causes the terminal to no longer be able to use a satellite RAN.
[0052] In addition, in the case of FIG. 2, an example of updating information held by a terminal through a configuration update command message is described.
[0053] In process 201, the terminal (101) can transmit a registration request message to AMF (111). In process 201, the terminal (101) can transmit the registration request message to AMF (111) via satellite RAN (104).
[0054] In process 205, AMF (111) can transmit a registration accept message to terminal (101). In process 205, AMF (111) can transmit the registration accept message to terminal (101) via satellite RAN (104).
[0055] In the 211 process, the terminal (101) can transmit a PDU session establishment request message to the SMF (121).
[0056] In process 213, SMF (121) can transmit a PDU session establishment accept message to the terminal (101).
[0057] In the 221 process, UDM can change terminal-related subscriptions and save the changed contents.
[0058] Afterwards, in steps 223 and 225, the UDM can change the authority for the terminal (101) through the AMF (111). In order to change whether the terminal (101) can use the satellite RAN (104), the UDM can update terminal-related information to the AMF (111) as in step 223. At this time, the updated information may include PLMN information that the terminal (101) can no longer use the satellite RAN, access technology information, and no more allowed SAT information that indicates that the use of the satellite RAN is no longer permitted in the corresponding network or PLMN. This no more allowed SAT information may also be transmitted in the form of a new information element.
[0059] In process 225, the AMF (111) can change whether the terminal (101) can use the satellite RAN (104) through a configuration update command message to the UE (101). At this time, the updated information may include information on the PLMN where the terminal can no longer use the satellite RAN, information on the access technology, and information on no more allowed SAT, which indicates that the use of the satellite RAN is no longer permitted in the network or PLMN. This information on no more allowed SAT may also be transmitted in the form of a new information element.
[0060] In process 231, the terminal (101) can store the received information. At this time, the information stored may include PLMN information that the terminal (101) can no longer use the satellite RAN, access technology information, and information indicating that the use of the satellite RAN is no longer permitted in the corresponding network or PLMN, such as “no more allowed SAT.”
[0061] Afterwards, the terminal (101) can connect to a network, for example, a PLMN, through a general 5G RAN (103) rather than a satellite RAN (104) as in process 241 and transmit a registration request message.
[0062] Meanwhile, FIG. 3 is a sequence diagram for explaining a procedure for performing communication in an environment where 5G communication and satellite communication are supported according to one embodiment of the present disclosure.
[0063] According to one embodiment, FIG. 3 is a method for operating when a terminal (101) can no longer use a satellite RAN due to a subscription change in HPLMN.
[0064] In addition, in the case of FIG. 3, an embodiment is shown in which a terminal controls registration using a satellite RAN through a process of updating the terminal's policy.)
[0065] In process 301, the terminal (101) can transmit a registration request message to AMF (111). In process 301, the terminal (101) can transmit the registration request message to AMF (111) via satellite RAN (104).
[0066] In process 305, AMF (111) can transmit a registration accept message to the terminal (101).
[0067] In the 311 process, the terminal (101) can transmit a PDU session establishment request message to the SMF (121).
[0068] In process 313, SMF (121) can transmit a PDU session establishment accept message to terminal (101).
[0069] In the 321 process, UDM can change terminal-related subscriptions and save the changed contents.
[0070] Afterwards, in steps 323, 325, and 327, the UDM can change the authority for the terminal (101) through the PCF. In order to change whether the terminal (101) can use the satellite RAN, the UDM can update terminal-related information to the PCF as in step 323.
[0071] In steps 325 and 327, the PCF can change whether the terminal (101) can use the satellite RAN (104) through a policy update to the UE (101). In steps 325 and 327, a message transmitted from the PCF to the terminal (101) can be transmitted via the AMF (111). In step 327, when the AMF (111) receives the information from the PCF, the AMF (111) can transmit the information by including it in the DL NAS transport message that the AMF (111) sends to the terminal (101). At this time, the updated information may include information on the PLMN where the terminal can no longer use the satellite RAN, information on the access technology, and information indicating that the use of the satellite RAN is no longer permitted in the corresponding network or PLMN, called "no more allowed SAT." This information called "no more allowed SAT" may also be transmitted in the form of a new information element.
[0072] In process 331, the terminal (101) can store the received information. At this time, the information stored may include PLMN information that the terminal (101) can no longer use the satellite RAN, access technology information, and no more allowed SAT information that indicates that the use of the satellite RAN is no longer permitted in the network or PLMN.
[0073] Afterwards, the terminal (101) can connect to the network and PLMN through a general 5G RAN (103) rather than a satellite RAN (104) as in process 341 and transmit a registration request message.
[0074] Meanwhile, FIG. 4 is a sequence diagram for explaining a procedure for performing communication in an environment where 5G communication and satellite communication are supported according to one embodiment of the present disclosure.
[0075] According to one embodiment, FIG. 4 is a method for operating when a terminal (101) can no longer use a satellite RAN in a Visited PLMN (VPLMN).
[0076] In addition, in the case of FIG. 4, an embodiment is shown in which, through a registration accept message, a terminal (101) provides information such as whether the use of a satellite RAN is permitted for a specific PLMN when roaming, or whether only normal roaming is permitted, or whether the network is accessed only through a general cellular RAN such as a 5G RAN.
[0077] In the case of an embodiment where a terminal (101) in a VPLMN can no longer use a satellite RAN, this may be due to a subscription change. Alternatively, the terminal (101) may no longer be able to use the satellite RAN due to a policy of the country to which the terminal (101) has moved, or a policy of a roaming telecommunications company in the area to which the terminal (101) has moved, which does not allow the use of satellite RAN for terminals (101) that have accessed the network by roaming. In particular, if the use of satellite RAN is not allowed for terminals (101) that have accessed the network by roaming, the use of satellite RAN may be permitted for local subscribers in the area. On the other hand, the use of satellite RAN may be restricted for users who access the network by roaming, for example, inbound users.
[0078] Steps 401 to 405 below are steps for receiving information in advance about the VPLMN to be used when the terminal (101) accesses the HPLMN. Thereafter, the terminal (101) can select an available VPLMN using the information.
[0079] Subsequently, steps 421 to 423 illustrate an example in which a terminal (101) accesses a VPLMN and receives information, according to one embodiment.
[0080] In the 401 process, the terminal (101) can transmit a registration request message to AMF (111).
[0081] In process 405, AMF (111) can transmit a registration accept message to terminal (101). The registration accept message transmitted to terminal (101) may include the following information.
[0082] For example, the registration accept message may transmit PLMN information and access technology information.
[0083] In one embodiment, along with the PLMN information, for example, not allowed-Satellite RAN for inbound information may be transmitted indicating that satellite RAN is not allowed for inbound roaming UEs in that PLMN.
[0084] In one embodiment, information may be transmitted that only allow normal roaming services, for example, only normal roaming services are allowed and roaming services utilizing Satellite are not allowed.
[0085] In one embodiment, an information element called "only allow 5G-RAN" may be transmitted. For example, this may restrict terminals connecting via satellite RAN by indicating that only connections via 5G-RAN are allowed.
[0086] Afterwards, in steps 411, 413, and 415, the UDM (151) can change the authority for the terminal (101) through the PCF (161). In order to change whether the terminal (101) can use the satellite RAN, the UDM (151) can update terminal-related information to the PCF (161) as in step 411. At this time, the updated information may be transmitted, such as PLMN information where the terminal (101) can no longer use the satellite RAN, access technology information, and no more allowed SAT information, which indicates that the use of the satellite RAN is no longer permitted in the corresponding network or PLMN. This no more allowed SAT information may also be transmitted in the form of a new information element.
[0087] In steps 413 and 415, the PCF (161) can change whether the terminal (101) can use the satellite RAN (104) through a policy update to the terminal (101). In steps 413 and 415, a message transmitted from the PCF (161) to the terminal (101) can be transmitted via the AMF (111). In step 415, when the AMF (111) receives the information from the PCF (161), the AMF (111) can transmit the information by including it in the DL NAS transport message that the AMF (111) sends to the terminal (101). At this time, the updated information may include information on the PLMN where the terminal (101) can no longer use the satellite RAN, information on the access technology, and information indicating that the use of the satellite RAN is no longer permitted in the corresponding network or PLMN, called "no more allowed SAT." This information called "no more allowed SAT" may also be transmitted in the form of a new information element.
[0088] As described above in steps 411 to 415, a method of transmitting information to a terminal (101) through UDM (151), PCF (161), and AMF (111) is described as an example.
[0089] In another embodiment, steps 411 to 415 of FIG. 4 may transmit related information to the terminal via UDM and AMF as disclosed in steps 223 and 225 of FIG. 2. At this time, the updated information may include PLMN information that the terminal (101) can no longer use the satellite RAN, access technology information, and no more allowed SAT information indicating that the use of the satellite RAN is no longer permitted in the corresponding network or PLMN. This no more allowed SAT information may also be transmitted in the form of a new information element.
[0090] Afterwards, when the terminal (101) moves to the VPLMN, the registration procedure can be performed as in steps 421 and 423.
[0091] In process 421, the terminal (101) can transmit a registration request message to AMF (111-2). According to one embodiment, the AMF (111-2) may be an AMF of a VPLMN section.
[0092] In process 423, the AMF (111-2) can transmit a registration accept message to the terminal (101). At this time, the terminal (101) can receive information such as PLMN information and not allowed-Satellite RAN from the AMF (111-2). For example, the terminal (101) can receive PLMN information and information on whether access via satellite RAN is allowed for the corresponding PLMNs.
[0093] Additionally, according to one embodiment of the present invention, PLMN information and access technology information can be transmitted.
[0094] In one embodiment, along with the PLMN information, for example, not allowed-Satellite RAN for inbound information may be transmitted indicating that satellite RAN is not allowed for inbound roaming UEs in that PLMN.
[0095] In one embodiment, information may be transmitted that only allow normal roaming services, for example, only normal roaming services are allowed and roaming services utilizing Satellite are not allowed.
[0096] In one embodiment, an information element called "only allow 5G-RAN" may be transmitted. For example, this may restrict terminals connecting via satellite RAN by indicating that only connections via 5G-RAN are allowed.
[0097] In the 431 process, the terminal (101) can communicate with a network entity (e.g., AMF, SMF, UPF).
[0098] In steps 441, 443, 445, and 447, the PCF (161) can change whether the terminal (101) can use the satellite RAN (104) through a policy update to the UE (101). In steps 441, 443, 445, and 447, a message transmitted from the PCF (161) to the terminal (101) via the PCF (161-2) can be transmitted via the AMF (111-2). In step 445, when the AMF (111-2) receives the corresponding information from the PCF (161-2), the AMF (111-2) can transmit the information by including it in the DL NAS transport message that the AMF (111-2) sends to the terminal (101). The information updated at this time may include PLMN information that the terminal (101) can no longer use the satellite RAN, access technology information, and no more allowed SAT information, which indicates that the use of the satellite RAN is no longer permitted in the network or PLMN. This no more allowed SAT information may also be transmitted in the form of a new information element.
[0099] Meanwhile, FIG. 5 is a sequence diagram for explaining a procedure for performing communication in an environment where 5G communication and satellite communication are supported according to one embodiment of the present disclosure.
[0100] According to one embodiment, FIG. 5 is a method for operating when a terminal (101) can no longer use a satellite RAN in a VPLMN.
[0101] In addition, in the case of FIG. 5, an embodiment is shown in which, through a registration reject message, information is provided such as whether the use of satellite RAN is permitted for a specific PLMN when the terminal (101) roams, or only normal roaming is permitted, or whether the network is accessed only through a general cellular RAN such as 5G RAN.
[0102] In the case of an embodiment where a terminal (101) in a VPLMN can no longer use a satellite RAN, this may be due to a subscription change. On the other hand, the use of satellite RAN may be restricted for users who access the network by roaming, such as inbound users.
[0103] The following steps 501 to 505 are, according to one embodiment, steps for receiving in advance information about the VPLMN to be used later when the terminal (101) accesses the HPLMN. Thereafter, the terminal (101) can select an available VPLMN using the information.
[0104] Subsequently, steps 521 to 523 and 531 to 533 are cases in which the terminal (101) accesses the VPLMN and receives information according to one embodiment.
[0105] In process 501, the terminal (101) can transmit a registration request message to AMF (111). The AMF (111) may be an AMF of HPLMN.
[0106] In process 505, AMF (111) can transmit a registration accept message to terminal (101). The registration accept message transmitted to terminal (101) may include the following information.
[0107] For example, a registration accept message may be transmitted including at least one of PLMN information and access technology information.
[0108] In one embodiment, along with the PLMN information, for example, not allowed-Satellite RAN for inbound information may be transmitted indicating that satellite RAN is not allowed for inbound roaming UEs in that PLMN.
[0109] In one embodiment, information may be transmitted that only allow normal roaming services, for example, only normal roaming services are allowed and roaming services utilizing Satellite are not allowed.
[0110] In one embodiment, an information element called "only allow 5G-RAN" may be transmitted. For example, this may restrict terminals connecting via satellite RAN by indicating that only connections via 5G-RAN are allowed.
[0111] Afterwards, in steps 511, 513, and 515, the UDM (151) can change the authority for the terminal (101) through the PCF (161). In order to change whether the terminal (101) can use the satellite RAN, the UDM (151) can update terminal-related information to the PCF (161) as in step 511. At this time, the updated information may be transmitted at least one of PLMN information that the terminal (101) can no longer use the satellite RAN, access technology information, and no more allowed SAT information that indicates that the use of the satellite RAN is no longer permitted in the corresponding network or PLMN. This no more allowed SAT information may also be transmitted in the form of a new information element.
[0112] In steps 513 and 515, the PCF (161) can change whether the terminal (101) can use the satellite RAN (104) through a policy update to the terminal (101). In steps 513 and 515, a message transmitted from the PCF (161) to the terminal (101) can be transmitted via the AMF (111). In step 515, when the AMF (111) receives the information from the PCF (161), the AMF (111) can transmit the information by including it in the DL NAS transport message that the AMF (111) sends to the terminal (101). At this time, the updated information can be transmitted at least one of PLMN information that the terminal (101) can no longer use the satellite RAN, access technology information, and no more allowed SAT information that indicates that the use of the satellite RAN is no longer permitted in the corresponding network or PLMN. This no more allowed SAT information can also be transmitted in the form of a new information element.
[0113] As described above in steps 511 to 515, a method of transmitting information to a terminal (101) through UDM (151), PCF (161), and AMF (111) is described as an example.
[0114] In another embodiment, steps 511 to 515 of FIG. 5 may transmit related information to the terminal via UDM and AMF as disclosed in steps 223 and 225 of FIG.
[0115] Afterwards, when the terminal (101) moves to a VPLMN, the registration procedure can be performed as in step 521, step 523, or step 531, 533. The following example is an example in which, after registration fails in one VPLMN (e.g., VPLMN#1) through steps 521 to 523 (e.g., after receiving a registration reject), registration succeeds in another VPLMN (e.g., VPLMN#2) through steps 531 to 533. (e.g., after receiving a registration accept message)
[0116] Accordingly, steps 521 to 523 are examples of a case in which a terminal (101) receives information on whether satellite RAN use is permitted when accessing a PLMN through a registration reject in a VPLMN according to one embodiment of the present disclosure.
[0117] And, processes 531 to 533 are examples of a case in which a terminal (101) receives information on whether satellite RAN use is permitted when accessing a PLMN through registration accept in a VPLMN according to one embodiment of the present disclosure.
[0118] In process 521, the terminal (101) can transmit a registration request message to AMF (111-3). The AMF (111-3) may be an AMF of a VPLMN.
[0119] In step 523, the AMF (111-3) may transmit a registration reject message to the terminal (101). At this time, the terminal (101) may receive at least one piece of information from the AMF (111-3), such as PLMN information or not allowed-Satellite RAN information. For example, the terminal (101) may receive PLMN information and information on whether access via satellite RAN is permitted for the corresponding PLMNs.
[0120] Additionally, according to one embodiment of the present invention, PLMN information and access technology information can be transmitted.
[0121] In one embodiment, along with the PLMN information, information such as not allowed-Satellite RAN for inbound may be transmitted, for example, that satellite RAN is not allowed for inbound roaming UEs in that PLMN.
[0122] In one embodiment, information may be transmitted that only allow normal roaming services, for example, only normal roaming services are allowed and roaming services utilizing Satellite are not allowed.
[0123] In one embodiment, an information element called "only allow 5G-RAN" may be transmitted. For example, this may restrict terminals connecting via satellite RAN by indicating that only connections via 5G-RAN are allowed.
[0124] In process 531, the terminal (101) can transmit a registration request message to AMF (111-2). AMF (111-2) may be an AMF of a VPLMN different from the VPLMN corresponding to AMF (111-3).
[0125] In step 533, the AMF (111-2) may transmit a registration accept message to the terminal. At this time, the terminal (101) may receive information such as PLMN information and not allowed-Satellite RAN from the AMF (111-2). For example, the terminal (101) may receive PLMN information and information on whether access via satellite RAN is permitted for the corresponding PLMNs.
[0126] Additionally, according to one embodiment of the present invention, PLMN information and access technology information can be transmitted.
[0127] In one embodiment, along with the PLMN information, information such as not allowed-Satellite RAN for inbound may be transmitted, for example, that satellite RAN is not allowed for inbound roaming UEs in that PLMN.
[0128] In one embodiment, information may be transmitted that only allow normal roaming services, for example, only normal roaming services are allowed and roaming services utilizing Satellite are not allowed.
[0129] In one embodiment, an information element called "only allow 5G-RAN" may be transmitted. For example, this may restrict terminals connecting via satellite RAN by indicating that only connections via 5G-RAN are allowed.
[0130] Meanwhile, FIGS. 6A and 6B are sequence diagrams for explaining a procedure for performing communication in an environment where 5G communication and satellite communication are supported according to an embodiment of the present disclosure.
[0131] According to one embodiment, FIGS. 6a and 6b illustrate a method for operating when a terminal (101) can no longer use a satellite RAN in a VPLMN.
[0132] In addition, in the case of FIGS. 6a and 6b, when information is updated in the VPLMN, an embodiment is shown in which information is provided, such as whether the terminal (101) is allowed to use satellite RAN for a specific PLMN when roaming, or whether only normal roaming is allowed, or whether the network is connected only through a general cellular RAN such as 5G RAN, through a configuration command.
[0133] In the case of an embodiment where a terminal (101) in a VPLMN can no longer use a satellite RAN, this may be due to a subscription change. Alternatively, the terminal (101) may no longer be able to use the satellite RAN due to a policy of the country to which the terminal (101) has moved, or a policy of a roaming telecommunications company in the area to which the terminal (101) has moved, which does not allow the use of satellite RAN for terminals (101) that have roamed and accessed the network. If the use of satellite RAN is not allowed for terminals (101) that have roamed and accessed the network, the use of satellite RAN may be permitted for local subscribers in the area. On the other hand, the use of satellite RAN may be restricted for users who roam and access the network, such as inbound users.
[0134] The following steps 601 to 605 are, according to one embodiment, steps for receiving in advance information about the VPLMN to be used later when the terminal (101) accesses the HPLMN. Thereafter, the terminal (101) can select an available VPLMN using the information.
[0135] Subsequently, steps 621 to 623 and 631 to 633 are cases in which the terminal (101) accesses the VPLMN and receives information according to one embodiment.
[0136] And, the process of updating information according to an embodiment is explained through processes 651, 653, and 655.
[0137] In process 601, the terminal (101) can transmit a registration request message to the AMF (111). The AMF (111) may be an AMF of the HPLMN. In process 605, the AMF (111) can transmit a registration accept message to the terminal (101). The registration accept message transmitted to the terminal (101) may include the following information.
[0138] For example, the registration accept message may carry at least one of PLMN information and access technology information.
[0139] In one embodiment, along with the PLMN information, for example, not allowed-Satellite RAN for inbound information may be transmitted indicating that satellite RAN is not allowed for inbound roaming UEs in that PLMN.
[0140] In one embodiment, information may be transmitted that only allow normal roaming services, for example, only normal roaming services are allowed and roaming services utilizing Satellite are not allowed.
[0141] In one embodiment, an information element called "only allow 5G-RAN" may be transmitted. For example, this may restrict terminals connecting via satellite RAN by indicating that only connections via 5G-RAN are allowed.
[0142] Afterwards, in steps 611, 613, and 615, the UDM (151) can change the authority for the terminal (101) through the PCF (161). In order to change whether the terminal (101) can use the satellite RAN, the UDM (151) can update terminal-related information to the PCF (161) as in step 611.
[0143] In steps 613 and 615, the PCF (161) can change whether the terminal (101) can use the satellite RAN (104) through a policy update to the terminal (101). In steps 613 and 615, a message transmitted from the PCF (161) to the terminal (101) can be transmitted via the AMF (111). In step 615, when the AMF (111) receives the information from the PCF, the AMF (111) can transmit the information by including it in the DL NAS transport message that the AMF (111) sends to the terminal (101).
[0144] As described above in steps 611 to 615, a method of transmitting information to a terminal (101) through UDM (151), PCF (161), and AMF (111) is described as an example.
[0145] In another embodiment, steps 611 to 615 of FIG. 6 may transmit related information to the terminal via UDM and AMF as disclosed in steps 223 and 225 of FIG. 2. At this time, the updated information may include PLMN information that the terminal can no longer use the satellite RAN, access technology information, and no more allowed SAT information indicating that the use of the satellite RAN is no longer permitted in the network or PLMN. This no more allowed SAT information may also be transmitted in the form of a new information element.
[0146] Afterwards, when the terminal (101) moves to the VPLMN, the registration procedure can be performed as in step 621, step 623, or step 631, 633.
[0147] The following processes 621 to 623 are examples of a case in which a terminal (101) receives information on whether satellite RAN use is permitted when accessing a PLMN through a registration reject from a VPLMN, according to one embodiment.
[0148] And, processes 631 to 633 are examples of a case in which a terminal (101) receives information on whether satellite RAN use is permitted when accessing a PLMN through registration accept in a VPLMN according to one embodiment.
[0149] In step 621, the terminal (101) can transmit a registration request message to the AMF (111-3). The AMF (111-3) may be an AMF of a VPLMN. In step 623, the AMF (111-3) can transmit a registration reject message to the terminal (101). At this time, the terminal (101) can receive at least one of the following information from the AMF (111-3): PLMN information, not allowed-Satellite RAN, etc. For example, the terminal (101) can receive PLMN information and information on whether access via satellite RAN for the corresponding PLMNs is allowed.
[0150] Additionally, according to one embodiment of the present invention, PLMN information and access technology information can be transmitted.
[0151] In one embodiment, along with the PLMN information, information such as not allowed-Satellite RAN for inbound may be transmitted, for example, that satellite RAN is not allowed for inbound roaming UEs in that PLMN.
[0152] In one embodiment, information may be transmitted that only allow normal roaming services, for example, only normal roaming services are allowed and roaming services utilizing Satellite are not allowed.
[0153] In one embodiment, an information element called "only allow 5G-RAN" may be transmitted. For example, this may restrict terminals connecting via satellite RAN by indicating that only connections via 5G-RAN are allowed.
[0154] In process 631, the terminal (101) can transmit a registration request message to the AMF (111-2). The AMF (111-2) may be an AMF of a VPLMN different from the VPLMN corresponding to the AMF (111-3).
[0155] In process 633, the AMF (111-2) can transmit a registration accept message to the terminal (101). At this time, the terminal (101) can receive information such as PLMN information and not allowed-Satellite RAN from the AMF (111-2). For example, the terminal (101) can receive PLMN information and information on whether access via satellite RAN is allowed for the corresponding PLMNs.
[0156] Additionally, according to one embodiment of the present invention, PLMN information and access technology information can be transmitted.
[0157] In one embodiment, along with the PLMN information, information such as not allowed-Satellite RAN for inbound may be transmitted, for example, that satellite RAN is not allowed for inbound roaming UEs in that PLMN.
[0158] In one embodiment, information may be transmitted that only allow normal roaming services, for example, only normal roaming services are allowed and roaming services utilizing Satellite are not allowed.
[0159] In one embodiment, an information element called "only allow 5G-RAN" may be transmitted. For example, this may restrict terminals connecting via satellite RAN by indicating that only connections via 5G-RAN are allowed.
[0160] In the 641 process, the terminal (101) can communicate with a network entity (e.g., AMF, SMF, UPF).
[0161] In the 651 process, UDM (151) can change the terminal-related subscription and save the changed contents.
[0162] Afterwards, in steps 653, 655, and 657, the UDM (151) can change the authority for the terminal (101) through the PCF (161). In order to change whether the terminal (101) can use the satellite RAN, the UDM (151) can update terminal-related information to the PCF (161) as in step 653. Afterwards, the PCF (161) can transmit the information to the PCF (161-2), and the PCF (161-2) can transmit the information to the terminal (101) via the AMF (111-2). When the AMF (111-2) receives the information from the PCF (161-2), the AMF (111-2) can include the information in the DL NAS transport message that it sends to the terminal (101) and transmit it.
[0163] At this time, the updated information may be transmitted by at least one of PLMN information that the terminal (101) can no longer use the satellite RAN, access technology information, and no more allowed SAT information that indicates that the use of the satellite RAN is no longer permitted in the network or PLMN. This no more allowed SAT information may also be transmitted in the form of a new information element.
[0164] In steps 655, 657, and 659, the PCF (161) may change whether the terminal (101) can use the satellite RAN through a policy update message to the terminal (101) according to one embodiment of the present disclosure.
[0165] The information updated at this time may include PLMN information that the terminal (101) can no longer use the satellite RAN, access technology information, and no more allowed SAT information, which indicates that the use of the satellite RAN is no longer permitted in the network or PLMN. This no more allowed SAT information may also be transmitted in the form of a new information element.
[0166] In step 661, the terminal (101) may store the received information. According to one embodiment, PLMN information, access technology information, and no more allowed SAT information, which indicates that the use of satellite RAN is no longer permitted in the corresponding network or PLMN, may be stored.
[0167] If the use of satellite RAN is not permitted, the terminal (101) can then connect to the network and PLMN through a general 5G RAN rather than a satellite RAN and transmit a registration request message.
[0168] Meanwhile, FIGS. 7a and 7b are sequence diagrams for explaining a procedure for performing communication in an environment where 5G communication and satellite communication are supported according to an embodiment of the present disclosure.
[0169] According to one embodiment, FIGS. 7a and 7b illustrate a method for a terminal to operate when the terminal can no longer use a satellite RAN in a VPLMN.
[0170] FIG. 7a and FIG. 7b illustrate an embodiment in which, when information is updated in a VPLMN, a configuration command is provided to provide information such as whether the use of satellite RAN is allowed for a specific PLMN when a terminal roams, or whether only normal roaming is allowed, or whether the terminal accesses the network only through a general cellular RAN such as a 5G RAN.
[0171] In the case of an embodiment where a terminal (101) in a VPLMN can no longer use a satellite RAN, this may be due to a subscription change. On the other hand, the use of satellite RAN may be restricted for users who access the network by roaming, such as inbound users.
[0172] The following steps 701 to 705 are, according to one embodiment, steps for receiving in advance information about a VPLMN to be used later when a terminal (101) accesses an HPLMN. Thereafter, using the information, the terminal (101) can select an available VPLMN.
[0173] Subsequently, steps 721 to 723 and 731 to 733 are cases in which the terminal (101) accesses the VPLMN and receives information according to one embodiment.
[0174] And, the process of updating information according to an embodiment is explained through processes 751, 753, and 755.
[0175] In process 701, the terminal (101) can transmit a registration request message to AMF (111). The AMF (111) may be an AMF of HPLMN.
[0176] In process 705, AMF can transmit a registration accept message to terminal (101). The registration accept message transmitted to terminal (101) may include the following information.
[0177] For example, the registration accept message may transmit PLMN information and access technology information.
[0178] In one embodiment, along with the PLMN information, for example, not allowed-Satellite RAN for inbound information may be transmitted indicating that satellite RAN is not allowed for inbound roaming UEs in that PLMN.
[0179] In one embodiment, information may be transmitted that only allow normal roaming services, for example, only normal roaming services are allowed and roaming services utilizing Satellite are not allowed.
[0180] In one embodiment, an information element called "only allow 5G-RAN" may be transmitted. For example, this may restrict terminals connecting via satellite RAN by indicating that only connections via 5G-RAN are allowed.
[0181] Afterwards, in steps 711, 713, and 715, the UDM (151) can change the authority for the terminal (101) through the PCF (161). In order to change whether the terminal (101) can use the satellite RAN, the UDM (151) can update terminal-related information to the PCF (161) as in step 711.
[0182] In steps 713 and 715, the PCF (161) can change whether the terminal (101) can use the satellite RAN (104) through a policy update to the terminal (101). In steps 713 and 715, a message transmitted from the PCF (161) to the terminal (101) can be transmitted via the AMF (111). In step 715, when the AMF (111) receives the information from the PCF (161), the AMF (111) can transmit the information by including it in the DL NAS transport message that the AMF (111) sends to the terminal (101). At this time, the updated information can be transmitted at least one of PLMN information that the terminal can no longer use the satellite RAN, access technology information, and no more allowed SAT information that indicates that the use of the satellite RAN is no longer permitted in the corresponding network or PLMN. This no more allowed SAT information can also be transmitted in the form of a new information element.
[0183] As described above in steps 711 to 715, a method of transmitting information to a terminal (101) through UDM (151), PCF (161), and AMF (111) is described as an example.
[0184] In another embodiment, steps 711 to 715 of FIG. 7 may transmit related information to the terminal via UDM and AMF as disclosed in steps 223 and 225 of FIG. 2.
[0185] Afterwards, when the terminal (101) moves to the VPLMN, the registration procedure can be performed as in step 721, step 723, or step 731, 733.
[0186] The following processes 721 to 723 are examples of a case in which a terminal (101) receives information on whether satellite RAN use is permitted when accessing a PLMN through a registration reject in a VPLMN according to one embodiment of the present disclosure.
[0187] The following processes 731 to 733 are examples of a case in which a terminal (101) receives information on whether satellite RAN use is permitted when accessing a PLMN through registration accept in a VPLMN according to one embodiment of the present disclosure.
[0188] In process 721, the terminal (101) can transmit a registration request message to AMF (111-3). The AMF (111-3) may be an AMF of a VPLMN.
[0189] In process 723, the AMF (111-3) may transmit a registration reject message to the terminal (101). At this time, the terminal (101) may receive information such as PLMN information and not allowed-Satellite RAN from the AMF (111-3). For example, the terminal (101) may receive PLMN information and information on whether access via satellite RAN is permitted for the corresponding PLMNs.
[0190] Additionally, according to one embodiment of the present invention, at least one of PLMN information and access technology information may be transmitted.
[0191] In one embodiment, along with the PLMN information, information such as not allowed-Satellite RAN for inbound may be transmitted, for example, that satellite RAN is not allowed for inbound roaming UEs in that PLMN.
[0192] In one embodiment, information may be transmitted that only allow normal roaming services, for example, only normal roaming services are allowed and roaming services utilizing Satellite are not allowed.
[0193] In one embodiment, an information element called "only allow 5G-RAN" may be transmitted. For example, this may restrict terminals connecting via satellite RAN by indicating that only connections via 5G-RAN are allowed.
[0194] In process 731, the terminal (101) can transmit a registration request message to the AMF (111-2). The AMF (111-2) may be an AMF of a VPLMN different from the VPLMN corresponding to the AMF (111-3).
[0195] At this time, the terminal (101) is permitted to use the satellite RAN, and if the satellite RAN is available, it can also access it through the satellite RAN (104). For example, the terminal (101) can transmit a registration request message to the AMF (111-2) via the satellite RAN (104).
[0196] Meanwhile, according to another embodiment, when inbound roaming is performed to the PLMN and the PLMN does not allow the use of satellite RAN (104) for inbound roaming, or when the subscription is changed and the use of satellite RAN (104) is not allowed, the terminal (101) may perform registration using 5G-RAN (103). Alternatively, when the use of 5G-RAN (103) is given priority over the use of satellite RAN (104), for example, for reasons such as billing, in such a case, the terminal (101) performs registration to AMF (111-2) via 5G-RAN (103).
[0197] In process 733, the AMF (111-2) may transmit a registration accept message to the terminal (101). At this time, the terminal (101) may receive information such as PLMN information and not allowed-Satellite RAN from the AMF (111-2). For example, the terminal (101) may receive at least one of the PLMN information and information on whether access via satellite RAN is allowed for the corresponding PLMNs.
[0198] Additionally, according to one embodiment of the present invention, at least one of PLMN information and access technology information may be transmitted.
[0199] In one embodiment, at least one of the PLMN information and not allowed-Satellite RAN for inbound information may be transmitted, for example, information indicating that satellite RAN is not allowed for inbound roaming UEs in that PLMN.
[0200] In one embodiment, information may be transmitted that only allow normal roaming services, for example, only normal roaming services are allowed and roaming services utilizing Satellite are not allowed.
[0201] In one embodiment, an information element called "only allow 5G-RAN" may be transmitted. For example, this may restrict terminals connecting via satellite RAN by indicating that only connections via 5G-RAN are allowed.
[0202] In the 751 process, UDM (151) can change the terminal-related subscription and save the changed contents.
[0203] Afterwards, in steps 753, 755, and 757, the UDM (151) can change the authority for the terminal through the AMF (111). In order to change whether the terminal can use the satellite RAN, the UDM (151) can update information related to the terminal to the AMF (111) as in step 753. The updated information at this time may include information on the PLMN where the terminal (101) can no longer use the satellite RAN, information on access technology, and information such as “no more allowed SAT” indicating that the use of the satellite RAN is no longer permitted in the network or PLMN. This “no more allowed SAT” information may also be transmitted in the form of a new information element.
[0204] In steps 755 and 757, a message for updating the configuration may be transmitted from the AMF (111) to the UE via the AMF (111-2). The AMF (111-2) may change whether the terminal (101) can use the satellite RAN through a configuration update command message to the UE (101). At this time, the updated information may be transmitted at least one of PLMN information that the terminal (101) can no longer use the satellite RAN, access technology information, and no more allowed SAT information that indicates that the use of the satellite RAN is no longer permitted in the network or PLMN. This no more allowed SAT information may also be transmitted in the form of a new information element.
[0205] In process 761, the terminal (101) can store the received information. The information stored at this time may include PLMN information for which the terminal can no longer use the satellite RAN, access technology information, and no more allowed SAT information, which indicates that the use of the satellite RAN is no longer permitted in the network or PLMN.
[0206] If the use of satellite RAN is not permitted, the terminal (101) can then connect to the network and PLMN through a general 5G RAN rather than a satellite RAN and transmit a registration request message.
