Description

DEVICES AND METHODS FOR COMMUNICATION

[0001] FIELDS

[0002] Example embodiments of the present disclosure generally relate to the field of communication techniques and in particular, to devices and methods for ambient internet of thing (IoT) synchronization signal physical broadcast channel (SSB) .BACKGROUND

[0003] Internet of Things, or IoT, is a network of physical devices. These devices can transfer data to one another without human intervention. The automation and digitalization of various industries open numbers of new markets requiring new IoT technologies of supporting battery-less devices with no energy storage capability or devices with energy storage that do not need to be replaced or recharged manually. It may consider devices being either battery-less or with limited energy storage capability (i.e., using a capacitor) and the energy is provided through the harvesting of radio waves, light, motion, heat, or any other power source that could be seen suitable. Considering the limited size and complexity required by practical applications for battery-less devices with no energy storage capability or devices with limited energy storage that do not need to be replaced or recharged manually, the output power of energy harvester is typically from 1μW to a few hundreds of μW. Existing cellular devices may not work well with energy harvesting due to their peak power consumption of higher than 10mW.

[0004] An example type of application may be asset identification, which presently has to resort mainly to barcode and radio frequency identity (RFID) in most industries. The main advantage of these two technologies is the ultra-low complexity and small form factor of the tags. However, the limited reading range of a few meters usually requires handheld scanning which leads to labor intensive and time-consuming operations, or RFID portals / gates which leads to costly deployments. Moreover, the lack of interference management scheme results in severe interference between RFID readers and capacity problems, especially in case of dense deployment. It is hard to support large-scale network with seamless coverage for RFID.SUMMARY

[0047] Ambient IoT device may have a new radio / air interface to a reader / node. The new radio interface may be frame based or non-frame based. Deploying ambient IoT service on existing system could reduce the operation cost and quickly commercialize the new service. However, it is a frame structure for the IoT device is not clear.

[0048] According to embodiments of the present disclosure, the IoT radio interface is a frame based. A frame structure is indicated to the IoT device. The IoT device performs the communication based on the frame structure. Frame based interface may have better compatibility with current NR / NB-IoT frame based interface.

[0049] As used herein, the term “IoT radio interface” may refer to an air interface that is used for IoT communication. The term “IoT symbol” used herein may refer to a resource in time domain that is used for IoT communication. The term “frame” may refer to a time duration. The term “backscatter” used herein may refer to a method that uses an incident radio-frequency (RF) signal to transmit data without a battery or power source. The term “backscatter signal” used herein may refer to a reflection of ambient radio frequency signal. The term “cyclic prefix” used herein may refer to a guard internal inserted in a symbol.

[0050] Principles and implementations of the present disclosure will be described in detail below with reference to the figures.

[0051] FIG. 1A to FIG. 1E illustrate examples of a communication environment 100 in which example embodiments of the present disclosure can be implemented, respectively. In an example embodiment, as shown in FIG. 1A, the communication environment 100 may include a terminal device 110 (for example, an IoT device) and a network device 120. In another example embodiment, the communication environment 100 shown in FIG. 1B may include the terminal device 110, the network device 120 and an intermediate node 130 that is capable of IoT (for example, ambient IoT) . The intermediate node 130 may be one of: a relay device, an integrated access and backhaul (IAB) node, a UE, or a repeater. In IAB networks, IAB nodes, act either as relay nodes carrying the traffic through multiple hops from a macrocell to an end user and vice versa or as access points to serve UEs in their proximity.

[0052] In a further example embodiment, as shown in FIG. 1C, the communication  environment 100 may include the terminal device 110, the network device 120, and an assisting node 140 that is capable of IoT (for example, ambient IoT) . The assisting node 140 can provide a signal to the terminal device 110 and can be regarded as a signal source. The assisting node 140 may be one of: a relay device, an IAB node, a UE, or a repeater. In a yet example embodiment, as shown in FIG. 1D, the communication environment 100 may include the terminal device 110 and a terminal device 150. In another example embodiment, as shown in FIG. 1E, the communication environment 100 may include the terminal device 110, the network device 120 and the terminal device 150.

[0053] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 shown in FIG. 1A to FIG. 1E may be provided with carrier wave from another node (s) either inside or outside the communication environment 100. The links in the communication environment 100 shown in FIG. 1A to FIG. 1E may be bidirectional or unidirectional.

[0054] It is to be understood that the number of devices and their connections shown in FIG. 1A to FIG. 1E are only for the purpose of illustration without suggesting any limitation. The communication environment 100 may include any suitable number of devices configured to implementing example embodiments of the present disclosure.

[0055] The communications in the communication environment 100 may conform to any suitable standards including, but not limited to, Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) , Long Term Evolution (LTE) , LTE-Evolution, LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) , New Radio (NR) , Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) , Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) , GSM EDGE Radio Access Network (GERAN) , Machine Type Communication (MTC) and the like. The embodiments of the present disclosure may be performed according to any generation communication protocols either currently known or to be developed in the future. Examples of the communication protocols include, but not limited to, the first generation (1G) , the second generation (2G) , 2.5G, 2.75G, the third generation (3G) , the fourth generation (4G) , 4.5G, the fifth generation (5G) communication protocols, 5.5G, 5G-Advanced networks, or the sixth generation (6G) networks.

[0056] In an example embodiment, the IoT device may be a first type of IoT device where there is no energy storage, no harvesting ambient sources, or no independent signal generation at the first type of IoT device. In another example embodiment, the IoT device may be a second type of IoT device that has energy storage from harvesting ambient  sources but no independent signal generation. In this case, the use of stored energy can include amplification for reflected signals. The first and second types of IoT devices may perform backscattering transmissions, since there is no independent signal generation. In a further example embodiment, the IoT device may be a third type of IoT device that has energy storage from harvesting ambient sources and has independent signal generation. The third type of IoT device may have active RF component for transmission.

[0057] In some solutions, for a narrowband primary synchronization signal, there may be only one length 11 ZC sequence (u=5) in frequency domain from subcarrier index 0-10. One length 11 may be defined sequence in time domain from symbol 3-13. Mapping may be in subframe 5 in every radio frame.

[0058] In some solutions, for narrowband secondary synchronization signal, there may be 126 (u=3-128) Length 131 ZC sequences mapping on 132 resource element (RE) (11 symbols times 12 subcarriers) . 4 (q=0-3) length 128 sequence may be scrambled ZC sequences to get 4*126 = 504 total different sequences for each cell ID. 4 cycling shift sequence on the sequence may be used to indicate the timing of narrowband secondary synchronization signal (NSSS) (NSSS on different time has different cycling shift sequence) . Mapping may be in subframe 9 for frame structure type 1 or subframe 0 for frame structure type 2 in every even radio frames.

[0059] In some solutions, for narrowband physical broadcast channel, there may be 1600 encoded bits to transmit in subframe 0 for frame structure type 1 or subframe 9 for frame structure type 2 during 64 consecutive radio frames. 800 modulation symbols may be divided in to 8 sequences, each sequence has 100 modulation symbols. Each sequence may be transmitted on 8 consecutive radio frames with 8 repetitions, timing within 640ms could be detected based on the sequence. Each repetition may have scrambled with a sequence.

[0060] In some solutions, the PSS may include 3 different length 127 m sequences in frequency domain in one symbol in each SSB. The SSS may include 1008 different length 127 gold sequences (336 different sequences when PSS is determined) in frequency domain in one symbol in each SSB. Same antenna port 4000 may be assumed for PSS, SSS, PBCH and demodulation reference signal (DMRS) for PBCH in each SSB. Physical cell identity (PCI) may be determined after detection of PSS and SSS. The PBCH may include 8 different DMRS sequence for PBCH to indicate timing information of SSB (the  location of SSB in time domain within a half radio frame) . 3 bits PBCH payload may be used to indicate additional timing information of SSB when the number of SSB is larger than 8. One PBCH payload bit may indicate the half frame index of SSB. 6 bits MSB system frame number (SFN) index in MIB and 4 bits LSB SFN index in PBCH payload may be transmitted in PBCH, but the 2nd and 3rd LSB of SFN index bits are not transmitted directly. They are transmitted by using different scrambling sequence to scramble on PBCH payload before channel coding. There may be at most 64 SSB located at different time within a half radio frame.

[0061] Due to limited frequency bandwidth and to increase coverage, ambient IoT SSB may need to transmit on non-consecutive symbols across different slots. How to design AIoT-PSS, AIoT-SSS and AIoT-PBCH is needed to be discussed.

[0062] According to embodiments of the present disclosure, a solution on SSB is proposed. In particular, a terminal device receives, from a network device, a set of synchronization signal / physical broadcast channel, SS / PBCH, subblocks. A SS / PBCH block may include the set of SS / PBCH subblocks and each SS / PBCH subblock in the set of SS / PBCH subblocks occupies a set of consecutive symbols in time domain and a set of subcarriers in frequency domain. The terminal device detects at least one of the followings, after the reception of the set of SS / PBCH subblocks: a primary synchronization signal, a secondary synchronization signal, or a PBCH signal.

[0063] Reference is made to FIG. 2, which illustrates a signaling flow 200 of SSB transmission in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purposes of discussion, the signaling flow 200 will be discussed with reference to FIG. 1, for example, by using the terminal device 110 and the network device 120.

[0064] The network device 120 transmits (2010) a set of SS / PBCH subblocks to the terminal device 110. In other words, the terminal device 110 receives the set of SS / PBCH subblocks from the network device 120. The set of SS / PBCH subblocks belong to one SS / PBCH block. That is, one SS / PBCH block includes the set of SS / PBCH subblocks. The SS / PBCH block may include any suitable number of SS / PBCH subblocks. For example, as shown in FIG. 3A, the SS / PBCH block 310 may include SS / PBCH subblocks 320-1, 320-2, 320-3 and 320-4. That is, instead of transmitting the SS / PBCH block 310, the network device 120 may transmit the SS / PBCH subblocks 320-1, 320-2, 320-3 and 320-4 to the terminal device 110. In some embodiments, the SS / PBCH block can be divided into SS / PBCH subblocks 320-1, 320-2, 320- 3 and 320-4 in time domain. In some embodiments, each of the SS / PBCH subblocks 320-1, 320-2, 320-3 and 320-4 may occupy a set of consecutive symbols in time domain and a set of subcarriers in frequency domain. In some embodiments, there may be a gap in time domain between two adjacent SS / PBCH subblocks. Alternatively, the SS / PBCH block can be divided into SS / PBCH subblocks 320-1, 320-2, 320-3 and 320-4 in frequency domain. In some other embodiments, the SS / PBCH block can be divided into SS / PBCH subblocks 320-1, 320-2, 320-3 and 320-4 in time and frequency domain. Advantageously, introducing SS / PBCH subblock can give flexibility for node scheduling of transmission on SSB for device’s initial access.

[0065] In some embodiments, the set of SS / PBCH subblocks may be transmitted periodically. For example, the network device 120 may transmit the set of SS / PBCH subblocks based on a predefined period or a period configured by the network device 120. Alternatively, the set of SS / PBCH subblocks may be transmitted in an aperiodic manner.

[0066] In some embodiments, each SS / PBCH subblock may include part of PSS, SSS and / or PBCH signals / channels. For example, each SS / PBCH subblock in the set of SS / PBCH subblocks comprises: a portion of the primary synchronization signal, a portion of the secondary synchronization signal, and a portion of the PBCH signal. Each SS / PBCH subblock may include all of PSS, SSS and PBCH that coherent detection after detecting of PSS could be achieved. By way of example, a SS / PBCH subblock 320 which may be any one of the SS / PBCH subblocks 320-1, 320-2, 320-3 and 320-4 may include a PSS part 321, a SSS part 322 and a PBCH 323. In this case, the PSS part 321 may be a portion of the PSS that needs to be transmitted in the SS / PBCH block 310. The SSS part 322 may be a portion of the SSS that needs to be transmitted in the SS / PBCH block 310. The PBCH 323 may be a portion of the PBCH that needs to be transmitted in the SS / PBCH block 310. In some embodiments, each of the SS / PBCH subblocks 320-1, 320-2, 320-3 and 320-4 may include a portion of the PSS that needs to be transmitted in the SS / PBCH block 310, a portion of the SSS that needs to be transmitted in the SS / PBCH block 310, and a portion of the PBCH that needs to be transmitted in the SS / PBCH block 310.

[0067] In some other embodiments, each SS / PBCH subblock in the set of SS / PBCH subblocks may include one of: the primary synchronization signal, the secondary synchronization signal, or the PBCH signal. Each SS / PBCH subblock may include only one of PSS, SSS and PBCH that each subblock has sufficient resources for detection. For example, the SS / PBCH subblock 320-1 may include the PSS that needs to be transmitted in the SS / PBCH block 310, the SS / PBCH subblock 320-2 may include the SSS that needs to be transmitted in  the SS / PBCH block 310, and the SS / PBCH subblock 320-3 may include the a part of PBCH that needs to be transmitted in the SS / PBCH block 310, and the SS / PBCH subblock 320-4 may include the rest of PBCH that needs to be transmitted in the SS / PBCH block 310. The SS / PBCH block can be divided into the set of SS / PBCH subblocks in any suitable manner. Only as an example, if there are two SS / PBCH subblocks, one of the SS / PBCH subblock may include the PSS and the SSS, and the other SS / PBCH subblock may include the PBCH. Alternatively, if there are eight SS / PBCH subblocks, the first and second SS / PBCH subblocks may include the PSS, the third and the fourth SS / PBCH subblocks may include the SSS, and the rest four SS / PBCH subblocks may include the PBCH. In another example, the first SS / PBCH subblock may include the PSS, the second and third SS / PBCH subblocks may include the SSS, and the rest SS / PBCH subblocks may include the PBCH. In a further example, the first, second and third SS / PBCH subblocks may include the PSS, the fourth and fifths SS / PBCH subblocks may include the SSS, and the rest three SS / PBCH subblocks may include the PBCH.

[0068] In some embodiments, a same antenna port may be assumed for receiving each SS / PBCH subblock in the set of SS / PBCH subblocks. For example, the terminal device 110 may not assume the same antenna port for different SS / PBCH subblocks even within a SS / PBCH block.

[0069] Referring back to FIG. 2, the terminal device 110 detects at least one of the followings, after the reception of the set of SS / PBCH subblocks: the PSS, the SSS, or the PBCH signal. For example, the terminal device 110 may detect PSS, SSS or PBCH after receiving all SS / PBCH subblocks 320-1, 320-2, 320-3 and 320-4 of the SS / PBCH block 310.

[0070] In some embodiments, a PSS in each SS / PBCH subblock is generated based on timing information. For example, for PSS, timing information can be used to generate different PSS sequences. In this way, the terminal device 110 can have knowledge of detecting / combining / deciding which part of the SSS sequence in the subblock belongs to.

[0071] In some embodiments, a sequence of the SSS may be generated based on at least one of: cell identity information, the timing information, device type information, or information of the terminal device. In this case, the sequence of the SSS may be divided into a set of short sequences, and each SS / PBCH subblock may include a short sequence from the set of short sequences. Generating sequence based on device type information or information of the terminal device can help terminal device to early determine whether the  cell is accessible. For example, for SSS, there may be a long sequence generated based on cell ID information, timing information, ambient IoT type information, required ambient IoT device information and so on. The long sequence can be divided into short sequences and each short SSS sequence are transmitted on each SS / PBCH subblock.

[0072] In some embodiments, each SS / PBCH subblock may include a first short secondary synchronization signal sequence that is scrambled with a second short secondary synchronization signal sequence which is dedicated to the SS / PBCH subblock. In this case, the second short secondary synchronization signal sequence may be generated based on at least one of: cell identity information, the timing information, device type information, or information of the terminal device. For example, for SSS, there may be a first short sequence and a second short sequence generated based on cell ID information, timing information, ambient IoT type information, required ambient IoT device information and so on. The sequence which is the first short sequence scrambled by the second short sequences can be transmitted on each SS / PBCH subblock. Different SS / PBCH subblocks may generate different second sequences.

[0073] In some embodiments, a first scrambling sequence generated based on at least cell identity information and timing information may be used to scramble encoded PBCH bits after channel coding. For example, for PBCH, a first scrambling sequence generated based on at least cell ID information and timing information detected from SS may be used to scramble the encoded PBCH bits after channel coding. By way of example, the initial value c_init to generate the scramble sequence may be be c_init = timimg_index *2^10 + Cell_ID or c_init = timimg_index *2^10 * (2*Cell_ID+1) + Cell_ID , where timimg_index and Cell_ID are values detected by PSS / SSS. In such way, different scrambling sequences could be generated for different cells and different time locations to randomize interference from neighbor cell while combining PBCH on different time locations on the same cell.

[0074] In some embodiments, for SS / PBCH subblock in the set of SS / PBCH subblocks, mapping of primary synchronization signal, secondary synchronization signal, or PBCH to resources may be firstly in frequency domain of the SS / PBCH subblock then secondly in symbols of the SS / PBCH subblock then thirdly in time domain of the SS / PBCH subblock.

[0075] Reference is made to FIG. 4, which illustrates a signaling flow 400 of SSB transmission in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purposes  of discussion, the signaling flow 400 will be discussed with reference to FIG. 1, for example, by using the terminal device 110 and the network device 120.

[0076] The terminal device 110 may have SSB with limited bandwidth. In this case, more time durations for ambient IoT SSB may be expected. For example, current NR SSB may have 20 RB in frequency and 4 symbols in time. To keep the total number of resources, when ambient IoT SSB has 4 RBs in frequency, it may have 20 symbols in time.

[0077] The terminal device 110 may obtain a configuration indicating a mapping between a SS / PBCH block occasion and a SSB index. For example, the network device 120 may transmit (4010) the configuration indicating the mapping to the terminal device 110. In other words, the terminal device 110 may receive the configuration indicating the mapping between a SS / PBCH block occasion and the SSB index from the network device 120. Alternatively, the mapping may be preconfigured or predefined at the terminal device 110. For example, as shown in FIG. 5, the configuration may indicate that the SS / PBCH block occasions 511 and 515 may be mapped to the SSB index 1, the SS / PBCH block occasions 512 and 516 may be mapped to the SSB index 2, the SS / PBCH block occasions 513 and 517 may be mapped to the SSB index 3, and the SS / PBCH block occasions 511 and 515 may be mapped to the SSB index 4. In some embodiments, the number of SSB indexes in time domain or frequency domain is one of: 2, 4 or 8.

[0078] In some embodiments, the configuration may indicate a mapping between frequency carrier and SSB index. The terminal device 110 may obtain the carrier frequency of SSB based on SSB index. For example, the mapping may be f_n = f_0 + n*BW, where n represents a SSB index, f_n represents a carrier frequency of the SSB index n and f_0 and BW are predefined or configured value.

[0079] The network device 120 transmits (5020) , to the terminal device 110, a first SSB with a first SSB index on a first SSB occasion. In other words, the terminal device 110 receives, from the network device 120 the first SSB with the first SSB index on the first SSB occasion based on the configuration. The network device 120 transmits (5030) , to the terminal device 110, a second SSB with a second SSB index on a second SSB occasion. In other words, the terminal device 110 receives, from the network device 120 the second SSB with the second SSB index on the second SSB occasion based on the configuration. The first SSB block and the second SSB block are multiplexed in frequency domain or time domain. For example, longer ambient IoT SSB in time would reduce number of time domain multiplexed (TDMed) SSB, thus different SSB with different SSB index may be be multiplexed in frequency domain. In  this way, multiple AIoT SSB transmission could be used.

[0080] In some embodiments, the first SSB occasion and the second SSB occasion may locate at different bandwidth parts. Alternatively, the first SSB occasion and the second SSB occasion locate at different carriers. In some other embodiments, the first SSB occasion and the second SSB occasion locate at channel bandwidths. For example, from device’s perspective, each BWP / carrier / channel bandwidth has one SSB in frequency. Different SSBs may locate at different BWP / carrier / channel bandwidth. The terminal device 110 may switch its BWP / carrier / channel bandwidth to receive SSB there.

[0081] In some embodiments, different SSB occasions may locate firstly at time domain and secondly on frequency domain. In such way, DMRS could be used to distinguish the time location without decoding the PBCH payload and PBCH payload can include information on the SSB index for frequency domain.

[0082] Reference is made to FIG. 6, which illustrates a signaling flow 600 of signal transmission in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purposes of discussion, the signaling flow 600 will be discussed by using the device 610 and the device 620. In some embodiments, the device 610 may be implemented at the terminal device 110 and the device 620 may be implemented at the network device 120. Alternatively, the device 610 may be implemented at the network device 120 and the device 620 may be implemented at the terminal device 110.

[0083] The device 610 may determine (6010) whether allocated resources are enough for a transmission of a physical layer signal. For example, the device 610 may determine whether a time duration is long enough for a transmission / reception of a physical layer signal. By way of example, as shown in FIG. 7, the device 610 may determine whether the allocated resources are enough for the transmission or reception of the physical layer signal 710.

[0084] If the allocated resources are not enough for the transmission of the physical layer signal, the device 610 may divide (6020) the physical layer signal into a plurality of segmentations. For example, as shown in FIG. 7, the device 610 may divide the physical layer signal into a first physical layer signal segmentation 711 and a second physical layer signal segmentation 712. It is noted that the physical layer signal may be divided into any proper number of segmentations. In this way, physical layer segmentation has benefit to adapt the dynamic allocated resources and meanwhile reduce the baseband signal generation complexity. Further, there is no need to adjust signal generation procedures based on received resource  allocation command before physical layer segmentation. From node’s perspective, it has flexibility to allocation ambient IoT resources to better coexistent with existing / NR resources.

[0085] The device 610 transmits (6030) the plurality of segmentations to the device 620. In other words, the device 620 receives the plurality of segmentations from the device 610. For example, the device 610 may transmit, to the device 620, the first physical layer signal segmentation on a first set of consecutive resources and the second physical layer signal segmentation on a second set of consecutive resources. In this way, segmenting can be applied on higher layer (e.g., MAC layer) and physical layer. Physical layer segmentation can further reduce device complexity, i.e., no need to re-generate physical layer signals when different MAC segment is indicated to physical layer. Device may also buffered generated physical layer signal in some cases that encoding / modulation entity is not required for extreme low capability device.

[0086] In some embodiments, the device 610 may apply a preconfigured or higher layer (i.e., higher than physical layer) transmission configuration. For example, modulation and coding scheme (MCS) which defines the number of useful bits per symbol may be used by the device 610 for transmitting the plurality of segmentations. Alternatively, or in addition, a code rate may be used by the device 610 for transmitting the plurality of segmentations.

[0087] In some embodiments, the device 610 may obtain, from a physical layer of the device, a first time duration for the transmission of the first physical layer. For example, physical layer from the device 610 may not indicate the number of bits but indicate the time duration to be transmitted or to be received in the command to the device 610. The number of bits may be inferred based on the code rate and ending indication of transmission.

[0088] In some embodiments, some special physical layer signals may be defined, which can be used to distinguish from ordinary data signal / channels. For example, a starting signal may indicate the starting of physical layer signal / channel, which is at the beginning of the first physical layer segment. By way of example, the starting signal may include a specific sequence. Alternatively, the starting signal may be applied with an encoding approach, a modulation approach or a waveform that is different from the physical segmentation, thereby distinguishing the starting signal from the data transmitted in the physical segmentation. An ending signal may indicate the ending of physical layer  signal / channel, which is at the ending of the last physical layer segment. By way of example, the ending signal may include a specific sequence. Alternatively, the ending signal may be applied with an encoding approach, a modulation approach or a waveform that is different from the physical segmentation, thereby distinguishing the ending signal from the data transmitted in the physical segmentation. A segment starting signal may indicate the starting of physical layer signal / channel segment, which is at the beginning of each physical layer segment. By way of example, the segment starting signal may include a specific sequence. Alternatively, the segment starting signal may be applied with an encoding approach, a modulation approach or a waveform that is different from the data in the physical segmentation. A segment ending signal may indicate the ending of physical layer signal / channel segment, which is at the ending of each physical layer segment. By way of example, the segment ending signal may include a specific sequence. Alternatively, the segment ending signal may be applied with an encoding approach, a modulation approach or a waveform that is different from the data in the physical segmentation.

[0089] For example, the device 610 may transmit (6030) , to the device 620, at one or more of: a first starting signal 731 indicating a beginning of the first physical layer signal segmentation, a first ending signal 732 indicating an ending of the first physical layer signal segmentation, a second starting signal 733 indicating a beginning of the second physical layer signal segmentation, or a second ending signal 734 indicating an ending of the second physical layer signal segmentation.

[0090] In some embodiments, the device 620 may transmit (6040) , to the device 610 a plurality of further physical layer signal segmentations. In other words, the device 610 may receive, from the device 620 the plurality of further physical layer signal segmentations.

[0091] For example, the device 620 may obtain, from a physical layer of the device, a second time duration for a reception of a second physical layer. In this case, the device 620 may receive, from the device 610, a third physical layer signal segmentation on a third set of consecutive resources and a fourth physical layer signal segmentation on a fourth set of consecutive resources. In some embodiments, the device 620 may receive, from the device 610, at least one of the followings: a third starting signal indicating a beginning of the third physical layer signal segmentation, a third ending signal indicating an ending of the third physical layer signal segmentation, a fourth starting signal  indicating a beginning of the fourth physical layer signal segmentation, or a fourth ending signal indicating an ending of the fourth physical layer signal segmentation.

[0092] FIG. 8 illustrates a flowchart of a communication method 800 implemented at a terminal device, in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the method 800 will be described from the perspective of the terminal device 110 in FIG. 1A to FIG. 1E.

[0093] At block 810, the terminal device 110 receives, from the network device 120, a set of synchronization signal / physical broadcast channel, SS / PBCH, subblocks. An SS / PBCH block comprises the set of SS / PBCH subblocks and each SS / PBCH subblock in the set of SS / PBCH subblocks occupies a set of consecutive symbols in time domain and a set of subcarriers in frequency domain.

[0094] At block 820, the terminal device 110 detects at least one of the followings, after the reception of the set of SS / PBCH subblocks: a primary synchronization signal, a secondary synchronization signal, or a PBCH signal.

[0095] In some example embodiments, each SS / PBCH subblock in the set of SS / PBCH subblocks comprises: a portion of the primary synchronization signal, a portion of the secondary synchronization signal, and a portion of the PBCH signal.

[0096] In some example embodiments, each SS / PBCH subblock in the set of SS / PBCH subblocks comprises one of: the primary synchronization signal, the secondary synchronization signal, or the PBCH signal.

[0097] In some example embodiments, a same antenna port is assumed for receiving each SS / PBCH subblock in the set of SS / PBCH subblocks.

[0098] In some example embodiments, a primary synchronization signal sequence in each SS / PBCH subblock is generated based on timing information.

[0099] In some example embodiments, a sequence of the secondary synchronization signal is generated based on at least one of: cell identity information, the timing information, device type information, or information of the terminal device, and wherein the sequence of the secondary synchronization signal is divided into a set of short sequences, and each SS / PBCH subblock comprises a short sequence from the set of short sequences.

[0100] In some example embodiments, each SS / PBCH subblock comprises a first short secondary synchronization signal sequence that is scrambled with a second short secondary synchronization signal sequence which is dedicated to the SS / PBCH subblock, wherein the second short secondary synchronization signal sequence is generated based on at least one of: cell identity information, the timing information, device type information, or information of the terminal device.

[0101] In some example embodiments, a first scrambling sequence generated based on at least cell identity information and timing information is used to scramble encoded PBCH bits after channel coding.

[0102] In some example embodiments, for SS / PBCH subblock in the set of SS / PBCH subblocks, mapping of primary synchronization signal, secondary synchronization signal, or PBCH to resources are firstly in frequency domain of the SS / PBCH subblock then secondly in symbols of the SS / PBCH subblock then thirdly in time domain of the SS / PBCH subblock.

[0103] FIG. 9 illustrates a flowchart of a communication method 900 implemented at a terminal device, in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the method 900 will be described from the perspective of the terminal device 110 in FIG. 1A to FIG. 1E.

[0104] In some embodiments, at block 910, the terminal device 110 receives, from the network device 120, a configuration indicating a mapping between a synchronization signal / physical broadcast channel, SS / PBCH, block occasion and a SSB index.

[0105] At block 920, the terminal device 110 receives, from the networked device 120, a first SSB with a first SSB index on a first SSB occasion based on the configuration.

[0106] At block 930, the terminal device 110 receives, from the network device 120, a second SSB block with a second SSB index on a second SSB occasion based on the configuration, wherein the first SSB block and the second SSB block are multiplexed in frequency domain or time domain.

[0107] In some example embodiments, the first SSB occasion and the second SSB occasion locate at different bandwidth parts, or wherein the first SSB occasion and the second SSB occasion locate at different carriers, or wherein the first SSB occasion and the second SSB occasion locate at channel bandwidths.

[0108] In some example embodiments, different SSB occasions locate firstly at time domain and secondly on frequency domain.

[0109] In some example embodiments, the number of SSB indexes in time domain or frequency domain is one of: 2, 4 or 8.

[0110] FIG. 11 illustrates a flowchart of a communication method 1100 implemented at a device, in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the method 1100 will be described from the perspective of the terminal device 110 or the network device 120 in FIG. 1A to FIG. 1E.

[0111] In some embodiments, at block 1110, the device determines whether allocated resources are enough for a transmission of a first physical layer signal.

[0112] In some embodiments, at block 1120, in accordance with a determination that the allocated resources are not enough for the transmission of the first physical layer signal, the device divides the first physical layer signal into a first physical layer signal segmentation and a second physical layer signal segmentation.

[0113] At block 1130, the device transmits, to a further device, the first physical layer signal segmentation on a first set of consecutive resources and the second physical layer signal segmentation on a second set of consecutive resources.

[0114] In some example embodiments, the method 1100 may also include obtaining, from a physical layer of the device, a first time duration for the transmission of the first physical layer.

[0115] In some example embodiments, the method 1100 may also include transmitting, to the further device, at least one of the followings: a first starting signal indicating a beginning of the first physical layer signal segmentation, a first ending signal indicating an ending of the first physical layer signal segmentation, a second starting signal indicating a beginning of the second physical layer signal segmentation, or a second ending signal indicating an ending of the second physical layer signal segmentation.

[0116] In some example embodiments, the method 1100 may also include obtaining, from a physical layer of the device, a second time duration for a reception of a second physical layer; receive, from the further device, a third physical layer signal segmentation on a third set of consecutive resources; and receive, from the further device, a fourth physical layer signal segmentation on a fourth set of consecutive resources.

[0117] In some example embodiments, the method 1100 may also include receiving, from the further device, at least one of the followings: a third starting signal indicating a beginning of the third physical layer signal segmentation, a third ending signal indicating an ending of the third physical layer signal segmentation, a fourth starting signal indicating a beginning of the fourth physical layer signal segmentation, or a fourth ending signal indicating an ending of the fourth physical layer signal segmentation.

[0118] In some example embodiments, the device comprises a terminal device and the further device comprises a network device, or wherein the device comprises a network device and the further device comprises a terminal device.

[0119] FIG. 12 illustrates a flowchart of a communication method 1200 implemented at a network device, in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the method 1200 will be described from the perspective of the network device 120 in FIG. 1A to FIG. 1E.

[0120] At block 1210, the network device 120 transmits, to the terminal device 110, a set of synchronization signal / physical broadcast channel, SS / PBCH, subblocks. A SS / PBCH block comprises the set of SS / PBCH subblocks and each SS / PBCH subblock in the set of SS / PBCH subblocks occupies a set of consecutive symbols in time domain and a set of subcarriers in frequency domain.

[0121] In some example embodiments, each SS / PBCH subblock in the set of SS / PBCH subblocks comprises: a portion of the primary synchronization signal, a portion of the secondary synchronization signal, and a portion of the PBCH signal.

[0122] In some example embodiments, each SS / PBCH subblock in the set of SS / PBCH subblocks comprises one of: the primary synchronization signal, the secondary synchronization signal, or the PBCH signal.
