Right-angle bent surface light source

[0001] This application claims priority to the Chinese patent applications filed with the China Patent Office on August 28, 2023, with application number 202311086722.9 and invention name “A right-angle bent surface light source”; and the Chinese patent application filed with the China Patent Office on August 28, 2023, with application number 202322314596.X and invention name “A right-angle bent surface light source and processing equipment”, the entire contents of which are incorporated by reference into this application. Technical Field

[0002] The present application relates to the technical field of lighting devices, and in particular to a right-angle bent surface light source. Background Art

[0003] Currently, all curved surface light sources used in refrigerators and freezers on the market provide light from the top. To avoid damage to the light guide layer's mesh during bending, which would result in dim light in the bent area, and to ensure a good fit between the light guide layer, diffusion layer, and exterior layer, nearly all adopt a large bending radius, as shown in Figure 1. Because of this large bending radius, typically around R50-R100, with R50-R60 being the most common (where RXX represents the radius of the bend, XX mm), this surface light source takes up a portion of the refrigerator's volume, wasting approximately 2 liters of refrigerator volume.

[0004] To reduce space, some refrigerator designs split the curved surface light source into two parts: a top surface light source and a back surface light source. These two parts are then joined together using a complex aluminum alloy frame structure. As shown in Figure 2, manufacturing two separate surface light sources and assembling them into a curved structure can be costly.

[0044] In the description of this application, it should be noted that, unless otherwise expressly specified or limited, the terms "connected" and "connection" should be understood in a broad sense. For example, they can refer to fixed connection, detachable connection, or integral connection; they can refer to direct connection, indirect connection through an intermediate medium, or internal communication between two components. Those skilled in the art will understand the specific meanings of the above terms in this application based on the specific circumstances.

[0045] First embodiment:

[0046] As shown in Figures 3-7, Figure 3 is an exploded view of a right-angle bent surface light source, Figure 4 is a schematic diagram of its assembly structure, Figure 5 is an enlarged view of point A in Figure 4, Figure 6 is an enlarged view of point B in Figure 4, and Figure 7 is a schematic diagram of the structure of the first frame of an embodiment. This embodiment provides a right-angle bent surface light source (hereinafter referred to as a surface light source), including a right-angle bent light guide plate 1 (hereinafter referred to as a light guide plate 1), a first frame (left frame) 21, a second frame (right frame) 22, an upper light bar 3, a side light bar 4 and a power supply harness 5. The light guide plate 1 includes a diffusion layer 11, a light guide layer 12 and a reflective layer 13. By using a thermal processing process to form the light guide plate 1 with a right-angle bend, the defect that the original surface light source with a large bending radius occupies a certain volume of the refrigerator can be solved. It can be understood that the above-mentioned solution can be used to solve the problem of large space occupied by the existing bent surface light source, and can also be used to solve the problem of uneven light emission or shadows at the bend of the light guide plate 1.

[0047] More specifically, the first frame 21 is fixedly connected to the light guide plate 1 and is located on one side of the light guide plate 1. The second frame 22 is fixedly connected to the light guide plate 1 and is located on a side of the light guide plate 1 away from the first frame 21. One upper light bar 3 and one side light bar 2 are each provided; the upper light bar 3 is fixedly connected to the first frame 21 or the second frame 22 and is located inside thereof; the side light bar 2 is fixedly connected to the upper light bar 3 and to the first frame 21 or the second frame 22, and is located above the upper light bar 3.

[0048] The light guide plate 1 can be manufactured using customized tooling and a thermal bending process, breaking the limitation that the bending radius of the curved surface light source must be greater than five times the thickness of the light guide material. The original large bending radius is changed to a bend similar to a perfect right angle, with a bending radius close to zero. In some embodiments, the bending radius R of the surface light source (or light guide plate 1) can be controlled to be ≤ 2mm. For example, the radius of the arc at the bend can be 2mm, 1.9mm, 1.8mm, 1.7mm, 1.6mm, 1.5mm, etc., which is roughly a right angle.

[0049] The surface light source of the present application has two frames 2, namely a first frame 21 and a second frame 2. In Figures 3 and 4, the first frame 21 is located on the left side and is therefore also referred to as the left frame; the second frame 22 is located on the right side and is therefore also referred to as the right frame. In actual operation, the positions of the two frames can be swapped by rotating the surface light source. As shown in Figures 3 and 4, the two frames 2 are arranged opposite each other, with the light guide plate 1 located therebetween, so that the two frames 1 are located on opposite sides of the light guide plate 1. The first frame 21 and the second frame 22 can be made of aluminum alloy. Both are L-shaped structures with C-shaped cross-sections. As shown in Figures 5 and 6, they can be respectively mounted on the two sides of the light guide plate 1. It can be seen that the light guide plate 1 is also an L-shaped structure corresponding to the L-shaped structure of the two frames, or in other words, the longitudinal cross-section of the light guide plate 1 is L-shaped; its two opposite sides can be respectively snapped into the two frames 1, specifically, into the C-shaped structure of the two frames. Because each frame 1 is bent (e.g., in an L-shaped structure), it is divided into an upper portion 201 and a side portion 202, which intersect at the bent portion 203 of the frame; because the light guide plate 1 is bent (e.g., in an L-shaped structure), it is divided into an upper portion 101 and a lower portion 102, which intersect at the bent portion 103 of the light guide plate. When the surface light source is installed or used, for the installer or user, the first frame 21 is generally located on the left side and the second frame 33 is located on the right side; the upper portion 201 of the frame and the upper portion 101 of the light guide plate are located at the top of the surface light source, extending from the front to the rear; the side portion 202 of the frame and the lower portion 102 of the light guide plate are located at the rear end, farther away from the installer or user.

[0050] The upper light bar 3 and the side light bar 2 can both be LED light bars that can emit light. The upper light bar 3 and the side light bar 2 are located inside the first frame 21 or the second frame 22, and are located on the side of the first frame 21 or the second frame 22 close to the light guide plate 1; when the left or right side of the light guide plate 1 is not illuminated, the one of the first frame 21 or the second frame 22 that is not provided with a light bar is only a symmetrical decorative frame. The present application can solve the defect that the original surface light source with a large bending radius occupies a certain volume of the refrigerator by using a heat processing process to make a light guide plate 1 with a right angle bend. At the same time, the side lighting method is used to solve the defect that the light guide network at the bend is damaged and the surface light source that enters the upper and lower sides emits uneven light or has shadows at the bend.

[0051] More specifically, in this embodiment, since only one upper light bar 3 and one side light bar 4 are provided, the upper light bar 3 and the side light bar 4 are located in one of the two frames 21 and 22, and are respectively adjacent to the light guide plate 1, providing light sources therefor; the other of the two frames can serve as a symmetrical decorative frame. Taking the light bar located in the first frame 21 as an example, as shown in Figures 3 and 4, the upper light bar 3 is located in the upper portion 201 of the first frame 21 (i.e., in the C-shape of one side of the L-shaped structure), adjacent to the upper portion 101 of the light guide plate 1, providing light sources therefor; the side light bar 2 is located in the side portion 201 of the first frame 21 (i.e., in the C-shape of the other side of the L-shaped structure), adjacent to the lower portion 102 of the light guide plate 1, providing light sources therefor; the upper light bar 3 and the side light bar 2 intersect at the bent portion 203 of the frame (which is also roughly the bent portion 103 of the light guide plate). In this embodiment, the right-angle bent light guide plate 1 is provided with light sources from the upper and lower side edges thereof, which can solve the problem in the prior art that the light source is obstructed at the bend when being provided from above or below; in addition, due to the small bending radius, there are fewer light guide points on the light guide layer 12 at the bend, thereby reducing the problem of uneven light source or shadows caused by damage to the light guide points.

[0052] The diffusion layer 11 is fixedly connected to the first frame 21 and the second frame 22, and is located between the first frame 21 and the second frame 22. The reflective layer 13 is fixedly connected to the first frame 21 and the second frame 22, and is located on the side of the first frame 21 closest to the diffusion layer 11. The light guide layer 12 is fixedly connected to the diffusion layer 11 and the reflective layer 13, and is located between the diffusion layer 11 and the reflective layer 13. Customized tooling and thermal bending processes can be used to bend the light guide layer 12 into a near-perfect right angle, while the diffusion layer 11 and the reflective layer 13 are also subjected to the same process to ensure the reliability of the three layers. Light-guiding dots are provided on the outside of the light-guiding layer 12 (i.e., the outside of the light-guiding layer 12 close to the diffusion layer 11), which can be produced by laser punching or hot pressing. The dot design at the bend can be different from the normal dots to reduce the impact of bending on luminescence. During the bending process, damage to the light-guiding dots is minimized to avoid obvious differences at the bend, too dark or too bright luminescence, and uneven luminescence.

[0053] The light guide plate 1 is a single, integrated plate-like structure, not a spliced assembly as shown in Figure 2. It comprises a diffusion layer 11, a light guide layer 12, and a reflective layer 13, arranged in sequence. In use, the diffusion layer 11 is typically located at the front, and the reflective layer 13 is located at the rear. As is well known to those skilled in the art, the diffusion layer 11 can be a diffuser plate, a cosmetic component that serves both as a diffusion layer and a cosmetic layer. The diffusion layer 11 is often made of PS (polystyrene), a common plate-like structure in surface light sources. It is used to even out the light from the light guide layer 12 and mask any imperfections in the light guide layer 12, hence its also known as a uniform light layer. The light guide layer 12, which emits light, is often made of PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate), also a common plate-like structure in surface light sources. The reflective layer 13 faces the light guide layer 12 and reflects light from the light guide layer 12 and the LED light strip back to the light guide layer 12, thereby increasing brightness. It is often made of PET (polyethylene terephthalate), a common sheet-like structure in surface light sources.

[0054] Double-sided tape can be used to bond the diffusion layer 11, light guide layer 12, and reflective layer 13 together, and waterproof transparent tape can be used to seal the edges (including the two side edges) of the resulting light guide plate 1. To meet waterproof requirements, double-sided tape is used to bond the various layers of the surface light source together to ensure a tight fit. After bonding, waterproof transparent tape is then used to seal the edges to ensure a waterproof effect.

[0055] At the same time, in this embodiment, for the second frame 22 without a light bar, double-sided tape can be used to stick it on the diffusion layer 11 and the reflective layer 13 (the side of the light guide plate 1); for the first frame 21 with a light bar, the light bar is first fitted into the frame, and then installed together to the other side of the light guide plate 1, and then positioning tape is used on the back of the reflective layer 13 to fix the first frame 21 to the light guide plate 1.

[0056] In one embodiment, as shown in FIG7 , each frame 2 may further form a gap at the bent portion 203 between the upper portion 201 and the side portion 202 thereof to provide space for the power supply harness 5 to pass through. The effect can be seen in FIG12 .

[0057] In addition, the first frame 21 and the second frame 22 are made by bending. This processing technology can ensure that the first and second frames are each a part, and the integrity is relatively good. However, the right-angle bending causes a large deformation of the aluminum profile, and wrinkles will appear on the front of the bend, and it is also easy to break. The integrated frame also brings certain difficulties to the assembly of the surface light source. At the same time, because the bent parts will take up a relatively large space, the packaging and transportation costs will also be relatively high.

[0058] The right-angle curved surface light source provided in this embodiment overcomes the limitation that the bending radius of the original curved surface light source must be greater than five times the thickness of the light-guiding material. The previously large bending radius of the light-guiding layer 12 is modified to resemble a perfect right angle, with a bending radius close to zero. Furthermore, the light-guiding mesh points at the bend of the light-guiding layer 12 can be distinguished from normal mesh points, preventing the bend from affecting light emission and thus reducing occupied space. Furthermore, this application uses a side-lighting method to address the problem of uneven light emission or shadows at the bend caused by damaged light-guiding mesh points at the bend, which can occur when the surface light source receives light from both sides.

[0059] Second embodiment:

[0060] On the basis of the first embodiment, referring to FIG8 , FIG8 is a schematic structural diagram of the second frame of the second embodiment. In this embodiment, the first frame 21 and the second frame 22 are made by split assembly.

[0061] Specifically, the first frame 21 and the second frame 22 are split and assembled in two parts. In this way, the first and second frames are made of two parts respectively, and the processing, packaging and transportation costs are relatively low. They can be spliced during the subsequent surface light source assembly. The surface light source assembly is also relatively simple. After sample testing, the aesthetics are better than that of bent aluminum profiles.

[0062] Third embodiment:

[0063] On the basis of the first embodiment or the second embodiment, referring to Figures 9-12, in this embodiment, two upper light bars 3 and two side light bars 2 are provided.

[0064] Specifically, the two upper light bars 3 are fixedly connected to the first frame 21 and the second frame 22, and are located inside the first frame 21 and the second frame 22, respectively. The two side light bars 2 are fixedly connected to the two upper light bars 3, and are located inside the first frame 21 and the second frame 22, respectively. In other words, the two upper light bars 3 are respectively arranged at the two side edges of the upper portion 101 of the light guide plate, and are located in the first frame 21 and the second frame 22, respectively. The two side light bars 2 are respectively arranged at the two side edges of the lower portion 102 of the light guide plate, and are located in the first frame 21 and the second frame, respectively. The upper light bar 3 and the side light bar 2 in each frame intersect at the bend 203 of the frame.

[0065] In this embodiment, if the size of the surface light source is large, two upper light strips 3 and two side light strips 2 can be set on both sides of the light guide plate 1 to increase the brightness and uniformity of the surface light source. That is, the same light strip as that on the first frame 21 is installed on the second frame 22, which can improve the brightness and uniformity of the surface light source.

[0066] The right-angle bent surface light source also includes a power supply harness 5, which is connected to the upper light bar 3 and the side light bar 2 and is mounted on the upper light bar 3. The power supply harness 5 is electrically connected to the upper light bar 3 and the side light bar 2 to provide power. The two LED light bars above and to the side of the light guide plate 1 can be combined to use a single power supply harness 5, or two power supply harnesses 5 can be used at the top and bottom ends, depending on the specific use case. If the light source is to be emitted from both sides, four light bars can be used, and two power supply harnesses 5 can be used on each side, or they can be combined into a single power supply harness as needed.

[0067] Fourth embodiment:

[0068] On the basis of the first embodiment, the second embodiment or the third embodiment, as shown in FIG13 , the right-angle bent surface light source further includes an upper frame 6 and a lower frame 7 .

[0069] Specifically, the upper frame 6 is fixedly connected to the light guide plate 1 and is located on the upper side of the light guide plate 1. The lower frame 7 is fixedly connected to the light guide plate 1 and is located on the side of the light guide plate 1 away from the upper frame 6, that is, the lower side. The upper side and the lower side can be relative to the installer or user.

[0070] In an optional embodiment, the first frame 21 , the second frame 22 , the upper frame 6 and the lower frame 7 constitute the frame of the light guide plate 1 ; and no light strips are provided in the upper frame 6 and the lower frame 7 .

[0071] The upper frame 6 and the lower frame 7 can be designed and added according to the actual needs of the customer. At the same time, the first and second frames can also be designed in various styles according to needs. Figure 13 shows a scene where a right-angle bent surface light source is applied to the refrigerator air duct.

[0072] The described embodiments are merely descriptions of the preferred embodiments of the present application and are not intended to limit the scope of the present application. Without departing from the design spirit of the present application, various modifications and improvements made to the technical solutions of the present application by ordinary technicians in this field should fall within the scope of protection determined by the claims of the present application.
