Abstract
Description
[0001] Two-component composition
[0002] Field of invention
[0003] The present invention relates to a two-component composition and its use, a method of assembling substrates and an article.
[0004] Technical background
[0005] Two-component polyurethane compositions are widely used as adhesives for the manufacture of various assemblies. These two-component compositions include:
[0006] - an -NCO component comprising chemical entities carrying isocyanate groups (i.e. -NCO), and
[0007] - an -OH component comprising chemical entities bearing hydroxyl groups (i.e. -OH).
[0008] After mixing these two components, the isocyanate groups of the -NCO component react with the hydroxyl groups of the -OH component, according to a so-called crosslinking reaction, to form a polyurethane which is in the form of a three-dimensional network comprising urethane (or carbamate) groups, ensuring the cohesion of the adhesive between the substrates of the assembly.
[0009] Some applications, such as assemblies for the manufacture of means of transport, require reducing the weight of the finished product. Indeed, the lighter a means of transport is, the lower its energy consumption will be.
[0010] There is therefore a need for a two-component composition that is lighter.
[0011] However, this lightening must not harm the mechanical properties of the composition.
[0012] Furthermore, when the ambient temperature increases significantly (for example, in summer or during transport or storage), it is important that the composition retains good mechanical properties.
[0013] The present invention therefore aims to provide a lighter two-component composition, while retaining or improving its mechanical properties, in particular tensile strength and / or Young's modulus, in particular at high ambient temperatures (for example 40°C).
[0014] Summary of the invention
[0015] The present invention relates to a two-component composition comprising: a component A comprising: o at least one polyisocyanate; and a component B comprising: o at least one polyol; component A and / or component B further comprising at least one polyvinyl chloride (PVC) filler C1, said filler C1 having a viscosity at a rate gradient of 5 s -1greater than or equal to 10 Pa.s, the viscosity being measured at 23°C for a diisononyl phthalate (DINP) / C1 filler mixture, the weight ratio of which is equal to 0.6, after 2 hours of aging at 23°C.
[0016] The invention also relates to the use of the two-component composition according to the invention as an adhesive.
[0017] Furthermore, the invention relates to a method for assembling substrates comprising: coating, on at least one surface of the substrates to be assembled, the two-component composition according to the invention, then bringing the substrates into contact.
[0018] Finally, the invention relates to an article comprising the two-component composition according to the invention, said composition binding at least two substrates of said article.
[0019] Surprisingly, it was found that the two-component composition according to the invention was not only lighter than a two-component composition comprising mainly ground calcium carbonate as filler, but also had improved mechanical properties, in particular in terms of tensile strength and / or Young's modulus, in particular at 40°C.

[0057] • Polyene polyol
[0058] “Polyene polyol” means a polymer comprising at least two hydroxyl groups (-OH) and at least two carbon-carbon double bonds in its main chain.
[0059] Examples of polyene polyols include homopolymers such as polyisoprene, polybutadiene, polypentadiene and / or polychloroprene, and / or copolymers such as isobutene isoprene copolymer, nitrile butadiene copolymer and / or butadiene isoprene copolymer.

[0061] Advantageously, polybutadiene is liquid at 23°C and at atmospheric pressure (notably 101325 Pa).
[0062] When component B comprises a polyol polymer, its total content of polyol polymer(s) may be between 5% and 80% by weight relative to the total weight of component B, preferably between 5% and 40% by weight, more preferably between 10% and 30% by weight.

By "low molar mass polyol" is meant a polyol different from the polymer polyol described above, and having a molar mass of less than 300 g / mol. In particular, the low molar mass polyol does not comprise more than two repeating units.
[0064] Preferably, the low molar mass polyol comprises 2 or 3 hydroxyl groups, more preferably 2.
[0065] Advantageously, the low molar mass polyol has a molar mass of between 50 g / mol and 250 g / mol, preferably between 60 g / mol and 200 g / mol, more preferably between 80 g / mol and 200 g / mol.
[0066] The low molar mass polyol may be chosen from 1,4-butanediol, ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol, a hexanediol (such as 1,6-hexanediol, 1,5-hexanediol, 1,4-hexanediol, 1,3-hexanediol, 1,2-hexanediol, as well as their derivatives substituted by one or more alkyl groups, preferably ethyl or methyl, such as 2-(m)ethyl-1,3-hexanediol), 1,2,3-propanetriol, trimethylolethane, trimethylolpropane, 1,2,6-hexanetriol, triethanolamine, diethanolamine, and mixtures thereof.
[0067] Advantageously, the low molar mass polyol is chosen from 1,4-butanediol, ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol, a hexanediol, and mixtures thereof, preferably a hexanediol, in particular 2-(m)ethyl-1,3-hexanedioL
[0068] When component B comprises a low molar mass polyol, its content of low molar mass polyol(s) may be between 3% and 75% by weight relative to the total weight of component B, preferably between 5% and 35% by weight, more preferably between 7% and 25% by weight.

[0070] When component B comprises a polymer polyol and a low molar mass polyol, the mass ratio (polymer(s) polyol / low molar mass polyol(s)) may be between 0.3 and 5, preferably between 0.5 and 2, for example between 1.0 and 2.0. Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) filler C1
[0071] The PVC filler C1 may be a PVC homopolymer and / or copolymer, preferably a PVC homopolymer.
[0072] Examples of PVC copolymers that may be mentioned are copolymers obtained by polymerization of vinyl chloride with one or more monomers chosen from acrylonitrile, ethylene, propylene, vinylidene chloride and / or vinyl acetate, in particular vinyl acetate.
[0073] PVC filler C1 has a viscosity at a velocity gradient of 5 s -1greater than or equal to 10 Pa.s, preferably greater than or equal to 12 Pa.s, more preferably greater than or equal to 15 Pa.s. For example, the PVC charge C1 has a viscosity at a speed gradient of 5 s -1 between 10 Pa.s and 70 Pa.s, preferably between 12 Pa.s and 40 Pa.s, more preferably between 15 Pa.s and 20 Pa.s.
[0074] Viscosity at a velocity gradient of 5 s -1 is measured at 23°C for a DINP / C1 filler mixture after 2 hours of aging at 23°C, the DINP / C1 filler weight ratio being equal to 0.6. In particular, the viscosity can be measured according to ISO 3219:1993.
[0075] Viscosity at a velocity gradient of 5 s -1 is generally equivalent to a Brookfield viscosity at 20 rpm (revolutions per minute).
[0076] The particle size of PVC filler C1 may vary between 0.05 pm and 0.8 pm, preferably between 0.1 pm and 0.5 pm. The particle size may be measured by electron microscopy, particularly scanning electron microscopy.
[0077] The PVC filler C1 can be obtained by an emulsion polymerization process, which is well known to those skilled in the art. In particular, such a process generally involves the introduction of the vinyl chloride monomer (and other optional monomers) into an aqueous phase comprising a water-soluble radical initiator, one or more surfactants as well as optional additives (for example, chain transfer agent(s), antioxidant(s), etc.), then its polymerization by heating the reaction medium (for example between 40°C and 80°C), and finally the recovery of the PVC obtained. Different water-soluble radical initiators can be used such as hydroperoxides, water-soluble azo compounds, mineral oxidants (persulfates, perchlorates, percarbonates, hydrogen peroxide, etc.), etc. The emulsion polymerization process advantageously makes it possible to obtain particles of uniform size.
[0078] On the other hand, the C1 PVC filler is not in the form of a plastisol, i.e. PVC that has "fused" with a plasticizer (particularly from the phthalate family) to give a homogeneous material. A plastisol is generally obtained by heating a PVC filler suspended in a plasticizer in stages to a temperature above 60°C. By heating, the plasticizer penetrates the PVC particles from the surface towards the core, until the particles become indistinguishable: chains of PVC and plasticizer molecules are distributed homogeneously and a single-phase material is obtained. This material hardens after being heated to a temperature above 130°C.
[0079] The content of PVC filler(s) C1 in the two-component composition may be between 15% and 30% by weight relative to the total weight of the two-component composition, preferably between 17% and 25% by weight.
[0080] The PVC filler C1 may be present in component A and / or component B, preferably in component B.
[0081] When the PVC filler C1 is in component B only, its content may be between 20% and 60% by weight relative to the total weight of component B, preferably between 30% and 50% by weight.
[0082] Rheology agent
[0083] The two-component composition according to the invention may further comprise at least one rheology agent in component A and / or component B, preferably in components A and B.
[0084] The rheology agent is preferably a thixotropic agent. A thixotropic agent generally influences the thixotropy of a composition. Thixotropy is the property of certain compositions to become less viscous when a constant force (e.g., constant stress shear) is applied and, after the stress is stopped, the viscosity returns to its initial state after a suitable period of time. The higher the force, the more the viscosity decreases.
[0085] In particular, the thixotropic agent may be chosen from:
[0086] - PVC plastisols, corresponding to a suspension of PVC in a plasticizing agent miscible with PVC, obtained in situ by heating at temperatures ranging from 60°C to 80°C. These plastisols may be those described in particular in the work “Polyurethane Sealants”, Robert M. Evans, ISBN 087762-998-6;
[0087] - fumed silica;
[0088] - suspensions in a plasticizer of bis-urea resulting from the reaction of a diisocyanate with a primary aliphatic amine; - waxes derived from castor oil, such as THIXCIN® R available from ELEMENTIS;
[0089] - amide waxes, preferably micronized, such as CRAYVALLAC® SLX, CRAYVALLAC® SLW or CRAYVALLAC® SUPER marketed by Arkema, or THIXATROL® AS8053 or THIXATROL® MAX which are available from ELEMENTIS, or RHEOBYK 7503 marketed by BYK; and
[0090] - their mixtures.
[0091] Preferably, the thixotropic agent is chosen from amide waxes, suspensions in a plasticizer of bis-urea resulting from the reaction of a diisocyanate with a primary aliphatic amine, and mixtures thereof.
[0092] Advantageously, component A comprises a suspension in a bis-urea plasticizer resulting from the reaction of a diisocyanate with a primary aliphatic amine.
[0093] Advantageously, component B comprises an amide wax.
[0094] According to one embodiment, component A comprises a suspension in a plasticizer of bis-urea resulting from the reaction of a diisocyanate with a primary aliphatic amine and component B comprises an amide wax.
[0095] The suspension of bis-urea in a plasticizer may in particular comprise: from 1% to 40% by weight of a bis-urea obtained by reaction of a primary aliphatic amine with a diisocyanate of molar mass less than 500 g / mol, relative to the total weight of said suspension, and from 60% to 99% by weight of a plasticizer chosen from alkylphthalates, pentaerythritol tetravalerate, alkylsulfonic acid and phenol esters, diisononyl-1,2-cyclohexane dicarboxylate, 3,3-[methylenebis(oxymethylene)]bis[heptane], dioctyl carbonate and mixtures thereof, relative to the total weight of said suspension, said suspension being a suspension of solid particles of bis-urea in a continuous phase of plasticizer.
[0096] Advantageously, the bis-urea is obtained by reaction of an n-alkylamine comprising from 1 to 22 carbon atoms, preferably n-butylamine, with a diisocyanate of formula NCO-R 6 -NCO, in which R 6is chosen from one of the following divalent radicals whose formulas below show the 2 free valences:
[0097] - i) the divalent radical derived from isophorone:
[0098] - ii) the divalent radical 4,4'-methylene-bis(cyclohexyl):
[0099] - iii) the divalent radical derived from 2,4-toluene diisocyanate (or 2,4-TDI) or 2,6-toluene diisocyanate (or 2,6-TDI) of respective formulae:
[0100] - iv) the divalent radical derived from 4,2'-diphenylmethylene diisocyanate (or 4,2'-MDI) or 4,4'-diphenylmethylene diisocyanate (or 4,4'-MDI), of respective formulae:
[0101] - v) the hexamethylene radical: -(CH2)e-,
[0102] - vi) the m-xylylene radical:
[0103] , And
[0104] - vii) the hexahydro-m-xylylene radical: Preferably, R 6is the divalent radical derived from 4,2'-MDI or 4,4'-MDI, more preferably from 4,4'-MDL
[0105] According to a preferred embodiment, the bis-urea is obtained by reaction of n-butylamine with a diisocyanate of formula NCO-R 6 -NCO, in which R 6 is the divalent radical derived from 4,2'-MDI or 4,4'-MDI, preferably 4,4'-MDL
[0106] As indicated above for this embodiment, the plasticizer used in the bis-urea suspension is chosen from alkylphthalates, pentaerythritol tetravalerate, alkylsulfonic acid and phenol esters, diisononyl-1,2-cyclohexane dicarboxylate, 3,3 -
[0107] [methylenebis(oxymethylene)]bis[heptane], dioctyl carbonate and mixtures thereof.
[0108] The alkyl phthalates are preferably formed by the group consisting of diisodecyl phthalate (DI DP), di(2-propylheptyl) phthalate and mixtures thereof.
[0109] Advantageously, the plasticizer is chosen from alkylphthalates, preferably from diisodecyl phthalate, di(2-propylheptyl) phthalate and their mixtures, more preferably is diisodecyl phthalate.
[0110] According to a preferred embodiment, the suspension of bis-urea in a plasticizer consists of: from 1% to 40% by weight of a bis-urea obtained by reaction of a primary aliphatic amine with a diisocyanate of molar mass less than 500 g / mol, relative to the total weight of said suspension, and from 60% to 99% by weight of a plasticizer chosen from alkylphthalates, pentaerythritol tetravalerate, alkylsulfonic acid esters of phenol, diisononyl-1,2-cyclohexane dicarboxylate, 3,3-[methylenebis(oxymethylene)]bis[heptane], dioctyl carbonate and mixtures thereof, relative to the total weight of said suspension, said suspension being in the form of a suspension of solid particles of bis-urea in a continuous phase of plasticizer, and the bis-urea and the plasticizer being as described above, including the embodiments.
[0111] Advantageously, said suspension comprises, and preferably consists of, 5 to 30% by weight of bis-urea and 70 to 95% by weight of plasticizer, the percentages being relative to the total weight of said suspension. The bis-urea and the plasticizer are as described above, including the embodiments.
[0112] The suspension of bis-urea in a plasticizer can be prepared according to the process described below.
[0113] The reaction of the primary aliphatic amine with the diisocyanate is highly exothermic. To prevent the large amount of heat formed by the reaction from causing the decomposition of the bis-urea formed, the primary aliphatic amine and the diisocyanate are each dissolved in a plasticizer prior to their reaction, the plasticizer thus serving to remove the heat formed by the reaction. The two solutions in a plasticizer of the primary aliphatic amine and the diisocyanate are advantageously each introduced into a reactor by injectors, under a pressure of 40 to 200 bar, preferably 80 to 120 bar, the two solutions thus being brought into contact in the state of sprayed liquid. The quantities of reactants preferably correspond to a ratio (number of moles of primary aliphatic amine) / (number of moles of diisocyanate) of approximately 2.Bis-urea is produced by the reaction in the form of solid particles dispersed in a continuous phase of plasticizer, the Brookfield viscosity of the corresponding suspension, measured at a temperature of 23 °C, being generally between 1 and 50 Pa.s, preferably between 10 and 25 Pa.s.
[0114] By "about X", we mean more or less 10% of the value of X.
[0115] "Castor oil-derived waxes" means waxes obtained from castor oil, in particular hydrogenated castor oil.
[0116] By "amide waxes" is meant waxes comprising one or more compounds having at least one amide group. In particular, amide waxes can be obtained from organic acid(s) (e.g. fatty acid(s)) and (di)amine(s).
[0117] The amide waxes are preferably micronized, that is to say they have an average particle size of less than 1 mm. Advantageously, the amide waxes have an average particle size of less than 500 pm, preferably less than 100 pm, more preferably less than 10 pm.
[0118] In the present description, the average particle size advantageously corresponds to the particle size d50, i.e. the maximum size of 50% of the smallest particles by volume, and can be measured with a particle size analyzer, in particular by laser diffraction on a MALVERN type device (for example according to standard ISO 13320).
[0119] Unless otherwise indicated, the standards referred to throughout the application are those in effect on the date the application was filed.
[0120] The total content of rheology agent can be up to 20% by weight relative to the total weight of the two-component composition, preferably from 2% to 15% by weight.
[0121] When component A comprises a rheology agent, the content of rheology agent in component A may be between 1% and 25% by weight relative to the total weight of component A, preferably between 2% and 22% by weight, more preferably between 5% and 20% by weight.
[0122] When component B comprises a rheology agent, the content of rheology agent in component B may be between 0.4% and 20% by weight relative to the total weight of component B, preferably between 1% and 15% by weight, more preferably between 1% and 10% by weight.
[0123] C2 charge
[0124] The two-component composition according to the invention may further comprise at least one filler C2 in component A and / or component B, preferably in components A and B. It is understood that filler C2 is different from the PVC filler C1 described above.
[0125] The filler C2 can be chosen from mineral fillers, organic fillers, and their mixtures, preferably from mineral fillers.
[0126] As an example of a mineral filler, any mineral filler commonly used in the field of adhesive compositions can be used. These fillers are typically in the form of particles of various geometries. They may be, for example, spherical, fibrous, or have an irregular shape.
[0127] Mineral fillers may be chosen from clays, quartz, carbonate fillers, kaolins, gypsum, hollow mineral microspheres, zeolites, and mixtures thereof.
[0128] Among the hollow mineral microspheres, we can cite hollow glass microspheres, and more particularly those made of sodium and calcium borosilicate or aluminosilicate.
[0129] Preferably, the mineral fillers are chosen from carbonate fillers, zeolites, and their mixtures.
[0130] Advantageously, the carbonated filler is chosen from alkali or alkaline earth metal carbonates and mixtures thereof. Preferably, the carbonated filler comprises calcium carbonate, more preferably the carbonated filler is ground calcium carbonate and / or calcium carbonate coated with fatty acids (the latter preferably being precipitated).
[0131] When calcium carbonate is coated with fatty acids, this makes the calcium carbonate particles completely or partially hydrophobic. In addition, the fatty acid coating acts as a hydrophobic coating that can prevent the calcium carbonate from absorbing the composition's constituents and rendering them ineffective. The hydrophobic coating of the calcium carbonate can represent from 0.1% to 3.5% by weight, based on the total weight of calcium carbonate.
[0132] Preferably, the fatty acids coating the calcium carbonate comprise or consist of more than 50% by weight of stearic acid relative to the total weight of the fatty acids.
[0133] Advantageously, the zeolites are chosen from synthetic zeolites of type A, X and / or Y, preferably of type A, and have a pore diameter of between 3 Å and 5 Å, preferably 3 Å.
[0134] The average particle size of the mineral filler may range from 10 nm to 400 pm, preferably from 20 nm to 100 pm, more preferably from 30 nm to 50 pm.
[0135] As an example of an organic filler, we can cite any organic filler, in particular polymeric, usually used in the field of adhesive compositions.
[0136] Examples of suitable fillers include polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polyolefins, rubber, ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA), expandable or non-expandable thermoplastic polymer hollow microspheres (such as vinylidene chloride / acrylonitrile hollow microspheres) and / or aramid fibers (such as Kevlar®). When the C2 filler is PVC, it is understood that it does not have the viscosity at a 5 s velocity gradient -1 of the C1 PVC charge described above.
[0137] Hollow microspheres made of expandable or non-expandable thermoplastic polymers can also be used. Examples include hollow microspheres made of vinylidene chloride / acrylonitrile.
[0138] The average particle size of the organic load may be less than or equal to 50 pm, preferably between 5 and 20 pm.
[0139] The total content of filler C2 can be up to 20% by weight relative to the total weight of the two-component composition, preferably from 3% to 15% by weight.
[0140] Advantageously, component A comprises at least one mineral filler chosen from zeolites.
[0141] Advantageously, component B comprises at least one carbonated filler and one zeolite.
[0142] When component A comprises a filler C2, the content of filler C2 in component A may be between 0.5% and 10% by weight relative to the total weight of component A, preferably between 1% and 5% by weight. When component B comprises a filler C2, the content of filler C2 in component B may be between 1% and 30% by weight relative to the total weight of component B, preferably between 5% and 25% by weight.
[0143] Other additives
[0144] The two-component composition according to the invention may further comprise at least one additive chosen from plasticizers, solvents, UV stabilizers, de-bubbling agents, adhesion promoters, and mixtures thereof. The additive may be in component A and / or B.
[0145] Advantageously, the two-component composition according to the invention comprises a mixture of additives chosen from solvents and de-bubbling agents.
[0146] Water is not considered a solvent for the purposes of the invention.
[0147] The total content of additives can be up to 10% by weight relative to the total weight of the two-component composition, preferably from 1% to 5% by weight.
[0148] Component A and / or component B may comprise an additive chosen from plasticizers.
[0149] By "an additive chosen from plasticizers" is meant a plasticizer in component A and / or B which may be the plasticizer used in the bis-urea suspension described above when said component does not include said suspension, or a second plasticizer in component A and / or B other than the plasticizer used in said suspension when said component includes said suspension.
[0150] The additive chosen from among the plasticizers can be any plasticizer usually used in the field of adhesive compositions.
[0151] This additive chosen from plasticizers can for example be chosen from diisodecyl phthalate, diisononyl phthalate (DINP), an ester of alkylsulfonic acid and phenol (for example MESAMOLL® marketed by LANXESS), diisononyl hexahydrophthalate, pentaerythritol tetravalerate, and mixtures thereof.

Water and alcohols are not considered solvents for the purposes of the present invention.
[0155] The solvent content may be up to 10% by weight relative to the total weight of the two-component composition, preferably from 0.5% to 5% by weight.
[0156] Preferably, the solvent is in component B, in particular at a content of between 1% and 10% by weight relative to the total weight of component B.
[0157] The two-component composition according to the invention may comprise up to 1% by weight of one or more UV stabilizers (or antioxidants) relative to the total weight of said composition. UV stabilizers are typically introduced to protect the composition from degradation resulting from a reaction with oxygen which is likely to form by the action of heat or light. These compounds may include antioxidants capable of trapping free radicals.
[0158] The UV stabilizer (or antioxidant) may be chosen from benzotriazoles, benzophenones, so-called hindered amines such as bis(1-octyloxy-2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-4-piperidyl)sebacate, bis(2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-4-piperidyl)sebacate, bis(1,2,2,6,6-pentamethyl-4-piperidyl)sebacate (CAS No.: 41556-26-7), methyl 1,2,2,6,6-pentamethyl-4-piperidyl sebacate (CAS No.: 82919-37-7), octadecyl 3-(3,5-di-ferf-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)propionate, octadecyl 4,4'-bis(a,a- dimethylbenzyl)diphenylamine, and mixtures thereof.
[0159] Advantageously, the two-component composition according to the invention comprises a de-bubbling agent.
[0160] De-bubbling (or anti-foaming) agents are usually used by those skilled in the art to enable the rapid elimination of bubbles formed during the preparation and application of compositions having a component comprising a polyisocyanate.
[0161] The debubbling agent may be any debubbling agent commonly used in the field of adhesive compositions.
[0162] For example, the debubbling agent may be a polysiloxane, an aldimine and / or an oxazolidine, particularly a polysiloxane.
[0163] The content of de-bubbling agent may be up to 2% by weight relative to the total weight of the two-component composition, preferably from 0.05% to 1% by weight. The adhesion promoter may be chosen from amino alkoxysilanes (such as (3-aminopropyl)trimethoxysilane, 4-amino-3,3-dimethylbutyltrimethoxysilane, N-(2-aminoethyl)-3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane), mercapto alkoxysilanes, epoxy alkoxysilanes (such as (3-glycidyloxypropyl)trimethoxysilane), and mixtures thereof.
[0164] The content of adhesion promoter can be up to 5% by weight relative to the total weight of the two-component composition.
[0165] Other characteristics of the composition
[0166] Advantageously, the volume ratio of component A relative to component B is between 0.25 and 4, preferably between 0.5 and 2, more preferably between 0.8 and 1.2, for example equal to 1.0.

Preparation of bis-urea
[0212] Two solutions are prepared:
[0213] - a solution A of n-butylamine in diisodecyl phthalate (DIDP), consisting of 17.17% by weight of n-butylamine and 82.83% by weight of DIDP, the percentages being on the total weight of solution A, then
[0214] - a solution B of 4,4'-MDI in DIDP, consisting of 29.46% by weight of 4,4'-MDI in 70.54% by weight of DIDP, the percentages being on the total weight of solution B.
[0215] The 2 solutions A and B are heated to 100°C, then introduced, each under a pressure of 100 bar, into a reactor, in which they are continuously sprayed onto each other in a ratio A / B = 50.1 / 49.9 by weight, corresponding to a molar ratio n-butylamine / MDI equal to 2. The reaction is immediate and the temperature of the reactor reaches 140°C at the end of manufacture.
[0216] At the reactor outlet, a stable dispersion of 23.3% by weight (relative to the total weight of the dispersion) is obtained in the DIDP of a bis-urea of formula:
[0217] The Brookfield viscosity of the suspension measured at 23°C is 15 Pa.s.
[0218] Measurement methods
[0219] The density of components A and B is measured according to ISO 2811-1.
[0220] Tensile strength and Young's modulus were measured according to ISO 37 (2012), at a constant speed of 100 mm / min.
[0221] In particular, the following conditions were applied:
[0222] A standard dumbbell-shaped specimen (H2), type 2, as illustrated in international standard ISO 37 (2012) is used. The narrow part of the dumbbell used has a length of 20 mm, a width of 4 mm and a thickness of 2 mm.
[0223] To prepare the dumbbell, the composition to be tested (previously packaged in a cartridge) is extruded into a Teflon mold and left to harden for 14 days under standard conditions (23°C and 50% relative humidity).
[0224] The principle of the measurement consists of stretching in a tensile machine (for example Zwick Roell 2.5KN), whose movable jaw moves at a constant speed equal to 100 mm / min, a standard test piece and recording: - the tensile strength (in MPa) which is the tensile stress at which the test piece ruptures (also called TS for Tensile Strength in English), and
[0225] - Young's modulus (expressed in MPa) which is the slope of the tangent at the origin of the curve showing the tensile stress as a function of the elongation of the specimen.
[0226] The measurement is carried out at 23°C or 40°C, is repeated for 5 test pieces, and the corresponding average of the results obtained is calculated.
[0227] Example 2: Preparation and properties of a composition according to the invention and of comparative compositions
[0228] Each of the compositions consists of a component A and a component B.
[0229] Component A is identical for all compositions and is prepared by mixing the ingredients shown in Table 1 at room temperature (approximately 23°C) and under vacuum (approximately -90kPa), the percentages being percentages by weight of the total weight of Component A.
[0230] Table 1
[0231] Component A has a density equal to 1.15.
[0232] Components 1 B-3B are prepared by mixing the ingredients listed in Table 2 at room temperature (approximately 23°C) and under vacuum (approximately -90kPa), the percentages being percentages by weight of the total weight of component B.
[0233] Table 2
[0234] Component 1B has a density equal to 1.53 while components 2B and 3B have densities equal to 1.22.
[0235] Compositions 1-3 are then obtained by mixing component A respectively with component 1 B, 2B or 3B, using a SpeedMixer™ mixer at room temperature (approximately 23°C), in a volume ratio equal to 1.
[0236] Their mechanical properties are then evaluated according to Example 1, and the results are shown in Table 3 below.
[0237] Table 3
[0238] Replacing the majority of the ground calcium carbonate in Comparative Composition 1 with a PVC filler reduces the density of the composition. Indeed, components 2B and 3B have a lower density than component 1B.
[0239] In addition, replacing the majority of the ground calcium carbonate in comparative composition 1 with Lacovyl® PE1402H (PVC filler C1) significantly increases the tensile strength at both 23°C and 40°C, as well as the Young's modulus at 40°C, while maintaining a high Young's modulus at 23°C (comparison with composition 2 according to the invention).
[0240] On the other hand, if Lacovyl® PB1302 is used instead of Lacovyl® PE1402H, the tensile strength at 23°C and 40°C, as well as the Young's modulus at 23°C and 40°C, decrease (comparative composition 3 vs. composition 2 according to the invention). In addition, the Young's modulus at 23°C and the tensile strength at 40°C decrease significantly compared to the composition not comprising PVC filler C1 (comparative composition 1). Thus, the use of Lacovyl® PE1402H (PVC filler C1 having a viscosity at a speed gradient of 5 s -1equal to 16.0 Pa.s) makes it possible to obtain a lighter adhesive than a conventional composition comprising mainly carbonate fillers, while giving it high tensile strength and Young's modulus at both 23°C and 40°C.
[0241] Furthermore, the properties of composition 2 according to the invention allow its use as a semi-structural adhesive.
[0242] Therefore, composition 2 according to the invention can be used to obtain semi-structural assemblies that are not only lighter, but also more resistant to mechanical stresses, including when the ambient temperature increases significantly (for example, in summer or during transport or storage).
