Description

Packaging set for one pair of wiper blades

[0001] The technical context of the present invention is that of the packaging of windshield wiper blades. More particularly, the invention relates to a packaging assembly for a pair of windshield wiper blades.

[0002] Wiping systems for motor vehicles are designed to remove, by sweeping, liquids and dirt present on a glass surface, such as for example a windshield, and likely to disturb a driver of such motor vehicles in his detection of a wheel scene or his environment.

[0003] Such known wiping systems generally comprise a drive arm which performs an angular back-and-forth movement, at the end of which is connected a wiper blade equipped with a scraper blade formed of an elastic material, or even rubber. In a known manner, the wiper blade comprises a connector for coupling said wiper blade to the drive arm. By rubbing against the glass surface, the scraper blades sweep away water and dirt, and evacuate them outside the driver's field of vision.

[0004] Friction of the wiper blade scraper on the glass surface of the motor vehicle, the presence of dust or gravel on the glass surface during operation of the wiper blade, or degradation of the wiper blade when not in use and its exposure to environmental factors such as sunlight and ozone, are factors that affect the quality of known wiper blades and lead to wear of all or part of said wiper blades.

[0005] Thus, such wiper blades are wear parts that need to be replaced more or less frequently, depending on their use. Since the wiper blades are located outside the vehicle and easily accessible, a vehicle user can replace them without any particular difficulty.

[0006] Windshield wiper blades are very commonly available for retail sale, not only at automotive-related outlets such as parts stores and gas stations, but also at general retail outlets such as discount stores and department stores.

[0007] For this purpose, we know the massive use of cardboard or plastic packaging forming a sheath in which a pair of windshield wiper blades is housed. Such known packaging has many disadvantages. Firstly, the use of plastic or cardboard to manufacture these disposable packagings is less and less compatible, or even no longer compatible, with the environmental standards of manufacturers or retailers of windshield wiper blades. In addition, the manufacture of such cardboard or plastic packaging leads to a cost that should be minimized.

[0008] Another known disadvantage of the cardboard or plastic packaging used is that the wiper blades are not always perfectly held in place in these cardboard packagings. Also, due to their construction and the desire, for example, for the scraper blade to naturally exert pressure on the glass surface, the wiper blades have a curved profile when they are housed in these packagings, thus leading to the packaging being oversized to allow easy insertion of the wiper blades. Of course, such a situation is not desired.

[0009] The object of the present invention is to provide a novel packaging assembly for a pair of wiper blades in order to at least largely address the foregoing problems and further lead to other advantages.

[0010] Another aim of the invention is to simplify the packaging of windshield wiper blades available on the aftermarket.

[0011] Another aim of the invention is to reduce the environmental impact of the packaging of wiper blades sold as second-hand parts.

[0012] Another aim of the invention is to reduce the cost of packaging wiper blades sold as second-hand parts.

[0013] According to a first aspect of the invention, at least one of the aforementioned objectives is achieved with a packaging assembly for a pair of windshield wiper blades, the packaging assembly consisting of:

[0014] - a first wiper blade extending along a specific elongation axis and comprising a scraping blade held by at least one vertebra between two end caps, and a connector intended to allow mechanical coupling with a drive arm;

[0015] - a second wiper blade extending along the proper elongation axis and comprising a scraping blade held by at least one vertebra between two end caps, and a connector intended to allow mechanical coupling with a drive arm;

[0016] - at least one tightening strap extending around the wiper blades, so as to keep them pressed against each other.

[0017] In the packaging assembly according to the invention, the scraper blade of the first wiper blade is oriented towards the scraper blade of the second wiper blade, the first wiper blade resting on the second wiper blade.

[0018] In the context of the present invention, the elongation axis is taken along a direction of elongation of one of the wiper blades, along its largest dimension. For example, the elongation axis is parallel to a direction of elongation of the scraper blade of the wiper blade. From this elongation axis, a transverse direction is defined which extends perpendicular to the elongation axis, so as to delimit a front edge and a rear edge of the wiper blade. Finally, a vertical axis is also defined, taken simultaneously perpendicular to the elongation axis and the transverse axis. The vertical axis corresponds to a direction which extends from a wiping lip of the scraper blade to the at least one vertebra used to hold it.

[0019] In the context of the present invention, the packaging assembly thus forms an arrangement for storing and transporting a pair of wiper blades intended to be assembled together on a wiping system for a motor vehicle. Each wiper blade is intended to be coupled to a drive arm via its connector. As an illustrative example, the first wiper blade is intended to be mounted on a side opposite to a direction of the motor vehicle, and the second wiper blade is intended to be mounted on the direction side of the motor vehicle. For this purpose, the first wiper blade is preferably shorter than the second wiper blade, taken along their respective elongation axis.

[0020] In the context of the present invention, but in a non-limiting manner, the first wiper blade and the second wiper blade are of the same type, only their dimensions taken along the elongation axis being able to be different. In the packaging assembly according to the first aspect of the invention, the first wiper blade and the second wiper blade are aligned with respect to each other, so that their elongation axis are made parallel to each other. Furthermore, in the packaging assembly according to the first aspect of the invention, the first wiper blade and the second wiper blade are off-center with respect to each other, so that the connector of the first wiper blade is not located directly above the connector of the second wiper blade.In other words, with respect to the transverse axis, there is a non-zero distance between the scraper blade of the first wiper blade and the scraper blade of the second wiper blade.

[0021] In the context of the present invention, each tightening strap is configured to keep the wiper blades connected to each other. The tightening strap thus forms a ring passing around the wiper blades, thereby preventing them from separating from each other when they are transported or handled. The at least one tightening strap forms a closed contour around the two wiper blades, in a direction transverse to the axis of elongation of said wiper blades. The tightening strap is kept closed by any means, such as for example by gluing, by welding. The tightening strap is kept closed independently of one or the other of the wiper blades. Thus, in a clever manner, the tightening strap exerts a compressive force on the wiper blades.

[0022] Thus, the packaging assembly in accordance with the first aspect of the invention makes it possible to simplify the packaging of windshield wiper blades available on the aftermarket and to reduce the environmental impact of such packaging, by eliminating the sleeves used until now. Conversely, the windshield wiper blades are now only connected to each other and clamped in this state by at least one tightening strap. The clever positioning of the first windshield wiper blade with respect to the second windshield wiper blade makes it possible to protect the scraper blades without using sleeves. This configuration is particularly environmentally friendly since it makes it possible to reduce the quantity of materials used for packaging the windshield wiper blades. Consequently, it is also particularly economical since it makes it possible to reduce the cost of packaging such windshield wiper blades.

[0023] The packaging assembly in accordance with the first aspect of the invention advantageously comprises at least one of the improvements below, the technical characteristics forming these improvements being able to be taken alone or in combination:

[0024] - the first wiper blade and the second wiper blade are supported against each other relative to a vertical axis of the packaging assembly. It is recalled that it is the at least one tightening strap which then allows them to be held in this state. The offset of the scraper blade of the first wiper blade relative to the scraper blade of the second wiper blade, with respect to the transverse axis, allows the scraper blades to be effectively protected without adding material to the packaging assembly according to the invention;

[0025] - the first wiper blade and the second wiper blade are placed head to tail relative to a vertical axis, and next to each other relative to a transverse axis, the first wiper blade and the second wiper blade together sharing a common bearing surface. In the context of the present invention, many configurations can be imagined, some of them being described explicitly below;

[0026] - according to a first advantageous configuration, the connector of the first wiper blade bears against the connector of the second wiper blade. In other words, the bearing surface shared by the first wiper blade and by the second wiper blade consists here of the connector of each wiper blade. A part of each connector located on the side of the other connector bears against said other connector;

[0027] - according to a second advantageous configuration, the connector of the first wiper blade bears against one of the at least one vertebra of the second wiper blade located on the side of the first wiper blade. In other words, the bearing surface shared by the first wiper blade and by the second wiper blade consists here of the connector of the first wiper blade and of the at least one part of the vertebra of the second wiper blade located on the side of said first wiper blade;

[0028] - according to a third advantageous configuration, one of the at least one vertebra of the first wiper blade bears against one of the at least one vertebra of the second wiper blade. In other words, the bearing surface shared by the first wiper blade and by the second wiper blade consists here of at least one part of the vertebra of the first wiper blade located on the side of the second wiper blade and of at least one part of the vertebra of the second wiper blade located on the side of said first wiper blade;

[0029] - according to a fourth advantageous configuration, at least one of the end caps of the first wiper blade bears against one of the at least one vertebra of the second wiper blade. In other words, the bearing surface shared by the first wiper blade and by the second wiper blade consists here of one of the end caps of the first wiper blade and of the at least one part of the vertebra of the second wiper blade located on the side of said first wiper blade;

[0030] - according to a fifth advantageous configuration, the end caps of the first wiper blade bear against the end caps of the second wiper blade. In other words, the bearing surface shared by the first wiper blade and by the second wiper blade consists here of the end caps of the first wiper blade and the end caps of the second wiper blade;

[0031] - according to a first variant embodiment compatible with any of the aforementioned configurations, the at least one tightening strap comprises a single tightening strap located at the connectors of the wiper blades. This configuration is particularly suitable for wiper blades of the same length. Generally speaking, in such an alternative embodiment, the first wiper blade and the second wiper blade are centered relative to each other and relative to the proper elongation axis;

[0032] - according to a second variant embodiment compatible with any of the aforementioned configurations, the at least one tightening strap comprises a first tightening strap located at a first end cap of the windshield wiper blades, and a second tightening strap located at a second end cap of the windshield wiper blades;

[0033] - according to a third variant embodiment compatible with any of the aforementioned configurations, the at least one tightening strap comprises a first tightening strap located at a first end cap of the windshield wiper blades, a second tightening strap located at a second end cap of the windshield wiper blades, and a third tightening strap located at the connectors of the windshield wiper blades;

[0034] - in the second or third embodiment, the first clamping strap is located between the first end cap and the wiper blade connectors, and the second clamping strap is located between the second end cap and the wiper blade connectors;

[0035] - the at least one tightening strap is thermoformed around the wiper blades. In other words, the at least one tightening strap is of the thermoformable strap type. By thermoformed, it is understood that the tightening strap is first placed around the wiper blades, according to one of the embodiment variants detailed previously, then it is heated in order to allow it to retract around said wiper blades. Thus, it is possible, by thermoforming, to adapt and adjust a dimension and a morphology of each at least one tightening strap to the dimensions of the packaging assembly according to the first aspect of the invention. This advantageous configuration also makes it possible to prevent the wiper blades from separating from each other or from sliding relative to each other relative to the specific elongation axis, once the at least one tightening strap is installed;

[0036] - according to a first embodiment variant, a width of the tightening strap, taken relative to an axis of elongation of the wiper blades, is greater than half of a length of the connector of one of the wiper blades, taken relative to the axis of elongation of said wiper blades. This advantageous configuration makes it possible to optimize the holding of the two wiper blades together, and also facilitates the placement and stability of the tightening strap on the connectors;

[0037] - alternatively, according to a second embodiment, a width of the tightening strap, taken relative to an axis of elongation of the wiper blades, is less than half of a length of the connector of one of the wiper blades, taken relative to the axis of elongation of said wiper blades. This advantageous configuration is more economical in terms of material constituting the tightening strap;

[0038] - generally speaking, the tightening strap has a width between 1 cm and 8 cm;

[0039] - in the first embodiment, the tightening strap is of the ribbon type. By ribbon, it is understood that a width of the tightening strap, taken relative to the axis of elongation when it is mounted on the pair of wiper blades, is greater than thirty times a thickness of said tightening strap;

[0040] - in the second embodiment, the tightening strap is preferably of the rope or cord type. By rope or cord, it is understood that a width of the tightening strap, taken relative to the axis of elongation when it is mounted on the pair of windshield wiper blades, is less than twenty times a thickness of said tightening strap. Optionally, the tightening strap is formed of an elastic material, such as rubber or an elastomer;

[0041] - in either of the embodiments, the tightening strap is formed from a plastic or paper material, possibly made of fibers and / or braided.

[0042] Various embodiments of the invention are provided, incorporating, in all their possible combinations, the various optional features set out herein.

[0043] Other characteristics and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following description on the one hand, and from several examples of embodiment given for informational and non-limiting purposes with reference to the attached schematic drawings on the other hand, in which:

[0044] illustrates an overview of an exemplary embodiment of the packaging assembly according to the first aspect of the invention;

[0045] illustrates a first detailed view of the entire production illustrated on the;

[0046] illustrates a side view of the packaging assembly shown in the;

[0047] illustrates a second detail view of the packaging assembly illustrated in the.

[0048] Of course, the features, variants and different embodiments of the invention may be combined with each other, in various combinations, provided that they are not incompatible or mutually exclusive. In particular, variants of the invention may be imagined comprising only a selection of features described below in isolation from the other features described, if this selection of features is sufficient to confer a technical advantage or to differentiate the invention from the prior art.

[0049] In particular, all the variants and embodiments described can be combined with each other if there is no technical obstacle to this combination.

[0050] In the figures, elements common to several figures retain the same reference.

[0051] In the FIGURES described below, the elongation axis is defined along a direction of elongation of one of the wiper blades 10A, 10B, taken along its largest dimension. For example, the elongation axis is parallel to a direction of elongation of a scraper blade 114 of one of the wiper blades 10A, 10B. From this elongation axis, a transverse direction is also defined which extends perpendicular to the elongation axis, so as to delimit a front edge and a rear edge of the wiper blades 10A, 10B. Finally, a vertical axis is defined, taken simultaneously perpendicular to the elongation axis and to the transverse axis. The vertical axis corresponds to a direction which extends from a wiping lip of the scraper blade 114 to the at least one vertebra 115 used to hold it.

[0052] With reference to FIGURES 1 to 4, the invention provides a packaging assembly 1 for a pair of wiper blades 10A, 10B, the packaging assembly 1 consisting of:

[0053] - a first wiper blade 10A extending along a specific elongation axis O1 and comprising a scraping blade 114 held by at least one vertebra 115 between two end caps 112, and a connector 113 intended to allow mechanical coupling with a drive arm;

[0054] - a second wiper blade 10B extending along the proper elongation axis O1 and comprising a scraping blade 114 held by at least one vertebra 115 between two end caps 112, and a connector 113 intended to allow mechanical coupling with a drive arm;

[0055] - at least one tightening strap 11 extending around the wiper blades 10A, 10B, so as to keep them pressed against each other.

[0056] In the packaging assembly 1 according to the invention, the scraper blade 114 of the first wiper blade 10A is oriented towards the scraper blade 114 of the second wiper blade 10B, the first wiper blade 10A bearing on the second wiper blade 10B at a bearing surface 12.

[0057] In a particularly clever manner, the packaging assembly 1 according to the invention resides above all in a specific arrangement of the first wiper blade 10A against the second wiper blade 10B, and a reduced use of materials used to hold together and in this configuration the two wiper blades 10A, 10B. Thus, unlike certain known packaging assemblies, the packaging assembly 1 according to the invention does not comprise a spacer serving as a support interface between the first wiper blade 10A and the second wiper blade 10B.

[0058] As seen in the FIGURES, the first wiper blade 10A is centered with the second wiper blade 10B, relative to the proper elongation axis O1. Thus, the connector 113 of the first wiper blade 10A is aligned with the connector 113 of the second wiper blade 10B, so that said connectors 113 are then located opposite each other.

[0059] Of course, depending on a length of the wiper blades 10A, 10B taken relative to the proper elongation axis O1, the end caps 112 of the first wiper blade 10A are not necessarily located opposite the end caps 112 of the second wiper blade 10B, as in the embodiment illustrated in the. In the embodiment illustrated in the, the first wiper blade 10A is longer than the second wiper blade 10B.

[0060] In the embodiment illustrated in the FIGURES, the packaging assembly 1 comprises a single tightening strap 11. The tightening strap 11 passes around the connectors 113 of the wiper blades 10A, 10B in order to hold said wiper blades 10A, 10B together. The tightening strap 11 forms a ring passing around the wiper blades 10A, 10B. The tightening strap 11 thus forms a closed contour around the two wiper blades 10A, 10B. The tightening strap 11 is kept closed around the wiper blades 10A, 10B by any means, such as for example by gluing, by welding. In the embodiment illustrated in the FIGURES, the tightening strap 11 takes the form of a ribbon, two longitudinal ends of which are attached to one another and fixed securely to one another, for example by gluing.

[0061] In the embodiment illustrated in the FIGURES, a width of the tightening strap 11, taken relative to the proper elongation axis O1 of the wiper blades 10A, 10B, is greater than half of a length of the connector 113 of one of the wiper blades 10A, 10B, taken relative to the proper elongation axis O1 of said wiper blades 10A, 10B. By way of non-limiting example, a width of the tightening strap 11 is between 5 cm and 10 cm.

[0062] In order to improve the holding and clamping of the first wiper blade 10A against the second wiper blade 10B, the tightening strap 11 is advantageously formed from a heat-sensitive material that contracts irreversibly under the effect of applying a heat flux greater than a threshold temperature. Such a tightening strap 11 is then thermoformable and can, once placed around the wiper blades 10A, 10B, be heated in order to be retracted and to circumferentially overmold the arrangement of the two wiper blades 10A, 10B placed against each other.

[0063] Thus, combined with the clever arrangement of the first wiper blade 10A resting – at the level of the bearing surface 12 – against the second wiper blade 10B, the tightening strap 11 makes it possible to keep the two wiper blades 10A, 10B in the same state during their transport and packaging.

[0064] Of particular interest in the context of the present invention, the tightening strap 11 is preferably formed from a bio-sourced material, such as comprising, for example, plant fibers, algae, paper or cardboard.

[0065] The first wiper blade 10A and the second wiper blade 10B are placed against each other in an inverted manner, so that the scraper blade 114 of the first wiper blade 10A is oriented, relative to the vertical axis, towards the second wiper blade 10B, and the scraper blade 114 of the second wiper blade 10B is oriented, relative to the vertical axis, towards the first wiper blade 10A.

[0066] Additionally, relative to the transverse axis, the first wiper blade 10A and the second wiper blade 10B are offset from each other, such that the scraper blade 114 of the first wiper blade 10A is located at a distance from the scraper blade 114 of the second wiper blade 10B. In other words, the scraper blade 114 of the first wiper blade 10A is not located directly above the scraper blade 114 of the second wiper blade 10B, relative to the transverse axis.

[0067] On the other hand, it is important that the two wiper blades 10A, 10B extend parallel to each other, relative to the proper elongation axis O1. Furthermore, the at least one tightening strap 11 is advantageously configured to hold the wiper blades 10A, 10B in this state. If in the exemplary embodiment illustrated in the FIGURES, the packaging assembly 1 comprises a single tightening strap 11 placed in a central position at the connectors 113 placed opposite each other, it may be advantageous to place around the wiper blades 10A, 10B several tightening straps 11 in order to more effectively hold said wiper blades 10A, 10B in this configuration.In this case, the packaging assembly 1 according to the invention may comprise a tightening strap 11 passing around the deflector 111 of the two windscreen wiper blades 10A, 10B, said tightening strap 11 then being located in an intermediate position between one of the end caps 112 of the second windscreen wiper blade 10B and the connectors 113 of said windscreen wiper blades 10A, 10B.

[0068] Preferably, according to a particularly advantageous embodiment of the invention and not shown in the FIGURES, the packaging assembly 1 comprises:

[0069] - a first tightening strap 11 located in an intermediate position between one of the end caps 112 of the second wiper blade 10B and the connectors 113 of the wiper blades 10A, 10B;

[0070] - a second tightening strap 11 located in an intermediate position between the other of the end caps 112 of the second wiper blade 10B and the connectors 113 of the wiper blades 10A, 10B; and

[0071] - a third tightening strap 11 located at the connectors 113 of the wiper blades 10A, 10B.

[0072] The bearing surface 12 of the two wiper blades 10A, 10B may consist of different variant embodiments in the context of the invention, as specified previously. In the embodiment illustrated in the FIGURES, the bearing surface 12 between the first wiper blade 10A and the second wiper blade 10B is formed by a side wall 1131 of the connector 113 of the first wiper blade 10A and a vertebra 115 of the second wiper blade 10B located directly above said side wall 1131. In this case, the side wall 1131 of the connector 113 is that located on the side of the second wiper blade 10B, relative to the transverse axis, and when the first wiper blade 10A is placed against the second wiper blade 10B.Similarly, the vertebra 115 considered here is that of the second wiper blade 10B located on the side of the first wiper blade 10A, relative to the transverse axis, and when the first wiper blade 10A is placed against the second wiper blade 10B. Thus, a lower face of the side wall 1131 of the connector 113 of the first wiper blade 10A is placed in abutment against an upper face of the corresponding vertebra 115 of the second wiper blade 10B.

[0073] In summary, the invention relates to a packaging assembly 1 for a pair of windshield wiper blades 10A, 10B, the packaging assembly 1 consisting of a first windshield wiper blade 10A extending along a proper elongation axis O1 and a second windshield wiper blade 10B extending along the proper elongation axis O1, at least one tightening strap 11 extending around the windshield wiper blades 10A, 10B, so as to keep them pressed against each other, a scraper blade 114 of the first windshield wiper blade 10A being oriented towards a scraper blade 114 of the second windshield wiper blade 10B, said scraper blade 114 of the first windshield wiper blade 10A being offset relative to the scraper blade 114 of the second wiper blade 10B, and the first wiper blade 10A bearing against the second wiper blade 10B at a bearing surface 12.

[0074] Of course, the invention is not limited to the examples which have just been described and numerous adjustments can be made to these examples without departing from the scope of the invention. In particular, the different characteristics, forms, variants and embodiments of the invention can be associated with each other in various combinations insofar as they are not incompatible or mutually exclusive. In particular, all the variants and embodiments described above can be combined with each other.
