Abstract
Description
A Method and Machinery for Making an OutsertField of invention:
[0001] The present invention relates to sheet folding. More specifically, the present invention relates to a method and machinery for making an outsert. Background of the invention:
[0002] A package of medicines includes one or more informational items therein. These informational items include information of the medications printed thereon according to related laws in a specific country. Pharmaceutical inserts & outsorts are some examples of these informational items. The informational item may be attached to a pharmaceutical container or maybe inserted loosely in a cardboard box in which the pharmaceutical container is kept. The informational item can be unfolded by a consumer to read the information printed therein.
[0003] Generally, these informational items / outserts are made on multiple folding machines arranged adjacent to each other. The multiple folding machines are arranged after one another which requires more time to convey an intermediate folded item from one folding machine to another folding machine to make a plurality of folds. And machinery having multiple folding machines require more floor space to set up the complete machinery. Initially, a sheet is fed to the folding machine to make a plurality of parallel folds to obtain a strip. Further, the strip is conveyed towards a plurality of cross-folding machines to make a plurality of cross-folds on the strip to obtain an outsert. The strip is divided into a plurality of virtual segments and conveyed to the plurality of cross-folding machines one after the other to make the plurality of cross-folds for obtaining the outsert.
[0004] Limitations of prior Art: Presently, the methods and machinery implemented to make outserts with multiple cross-folds are adapted tomake cross-folds on the strip only having an even number of virtual segments like ten, fourteen virtual segments or eighteen virtual segments. These methods are not adapted to make the outsert from a strip having an odd number of virtual segments. The existing method to obtain the outsert is described in patent US7896796B2.
[0005] Referring now to figures la, lb, 1c, and Id, patent US7896796B2 describes a method to make an outsert. The method starts with making a plurality of parallel folds on a sheet to obtain a strip (300) having elongated panels. The strip is having open ends (301, 302). Further, the strip (300) is divided into a plurality of virtual segments. Specifically, the strip (300) is first divided into an even number of virtual segments. A first cross-fold (Fl) is made on the strip (300) to obtain a first intermediate folded item (300a) having an upper portion and a lower portion. A length of the upper portion is equal to a length of the lower portion. The first intermediate folded item (300a) has a first open end (303) and a first closed end (304). Therefore, this method is not suitable for making the first cross-fold (Fl) which will obtain the first intermediate folded item (300a) having an unequal length of the upper portion and the lower portion.
[0006] Further, a second cross-fold (F2) is made on the first intermediate folded item (300a) to obtain a second intermediate folded item (300b) having an upper portion and a lower portion. The length of the upper portion is not equal to the length of the lower portion. The second cross-fold (F2) is made from the first open end (303) towards the first closed end (304). The second intermediate folded item (300b) is having a second closed end (305). Furthermore, a third crossfold (F3) is made on the second intermediate folded item (300b) to obtain a third intermediate folded item (300c) having an upper portion and lower portion. The third cross-fold (F3) is made from the second closed end (305) towards the first closed end (304). Similarly, further cross-folds are made on the third intermediate folded item (300c) to obtain an outsert. The detailed method is described in patent US7896796B2. This method is only adapted to make the first cross-fold (Fl) on the strip (300) having an even number of virtual segments and this method is notsuitable to make a plurality of cross-folds on the strip (300) having an odd number of virtual segments.
[0007] Further patent US7896796B2 describes a method to obtain an outsert from a strip having 10 virtual segments or 14 virtual segments. This method is not adapted to make more compact outsert from the strip having more number of virtual segments. Further, this method requires a machinery which is having a greater number of cross-folding machines that consumes more space. Specifically, this method requires the machinery to have four or five cross-folding machines to obtain the outsert.
[0008] Therefore, there is a requirement for a method and machinery for making an outsert which overcomes few or all drawbacks of the existing technologies.Objects of the invention
[0009] An object of the present invention is to provide an improved method and machinery for making an outsert.

[0070] Referring now to figures 2, 3-3f 1 , 4-4fl, and 5-5f 1 , a method (100a) for making an outsert (le) in accordance with the present invention is illustrated. The method (100a) is provided to make an outsert (le) from a sheet (1). The outsert (le) is a paper fold containing information in the form of write-ups, especially printed information or documentation that is folded and inserted into product packaging, such as pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and consumer goods. In the present embodiment, the sheet (1) is a paper sheet. In an embodiment, the sheet is made of plastic. It may be obvious to a person skilled in the art to make the outserts using coated paper, synthetic paper, film and plastic, foil and foil laminates, combination materials, recycled materials and the like. The sheet (1) has a printed information thereon. The sheet (1) having a length (L) and a width (W) isfolded to make a plurality of parallel folds along the length (L) of the sheet (1) to obtain a strip (la). In another embodiment, the plurality of parallel folds are made along the width (W) of the sheet (1) to obtain the strip (la).
[0071] The plurality of parallel folds forms a plurality of elongated sheet panels. As shown in figure 3a, the strip (la) has two open ends (201, 202) and the strip (la) is divided into a plurality of virtual segments (Pl, P2, P3, .... Pn). Each virtual segment has a length (L’) and a width (W’). The length (L’) and the width (W’) are the same for each virtual segment. The strip (la) can be divided into an even number of virtual segments or an odd number of virtual segments depending on the requirement and or the length of the strip (la). The method (100a) for making the outsert (le) includes the following steps:
[0072] The method (100a) starts at step (110a).
[0073] At step (120a), a first cross-fold (Fl) is made on the strip (la) to obtain a first intermediate folded item (lb). The first intermediate folded item (lb) is having an upper portion and a lower portion. The upper portion has a length which is equal to a length of the lower portion of the first intermediate folded item (lb). In another embodiment of the present invention, the upper portion has a length which is unequal to a length of the lower portion.
[0074] In one embodiment of the present invention, the strip (la) is divided into an odd number of virtual segments (Pl, P2, P3, ...PnOdd). At step (120a), the first cross-fold (Fl) is made on the said strip (la) to obtain the first intermediate folded item (lb) having an upper portion and a lower portion. The upper portion has a length which is unequal to the length of a lower portion.
[0075] In another embodiment of the invention, the strip (la) is divided into an even number of virtual segments (Pl, P2, . . .PneVen). At step (120), the first cross-fold (Fl) is made on the said strip (la) to obtain the first intermediatefolded item (lb) having an upper portion and a lower portion. The upper portion has a length which is equal to a length of the lower portion. The lower portion and the upper portion are having an even number of virtual segments (Pl, P2, . . .PneVen). The open ends (201, 202) of the strip (la) are overlapping with each other.
[0076] In one more embodiment of the invention, the strip (la) is divided into an even number of virtual segments (Pl, P2, . . .PneVen). At step (120), the first cross-fold (Fl) is made on the said strip (la) to obtain the first intermediate folded item (lb) having an upper portion and a lower portion. The upper portion has a length which is equal to a length of the lower portion. The open ends (201, 202) of the strip (la) are overlapping with each other. In alternative embodiment, the upper portion has a length which is unequal to a length of the lower portion. The open ends (201, 202) of the strip (la) are not overlapping with each other.
[0077] The first cross-fold (Fl) forms a first open end (203) and a first closed end (204) of the first intermediate folded item (lb). The first open end (203) includes the open ends (201, 202) of the strip (la), and the first closed end (204) is formed at the first cross-fold (Fl).
[0078] At step (130a), a second cross-fold (F2) is made on the first intermediate folded item (lb) to obtain a second intermediate folded item (1c). The second intermediate folded item (1c) is having an upper portion and a lower portion. The upper portion has a length equal to a length of the lower portion of the second intermediate folded item (1c). In another embodiment of the present invention, the upper portion has a length which is unequal to a length of the lower portion. The first open end (203) is overlapped with the first closed end (204). The second cross-fold (F2) forms the second closed end (206) which is formed at the second cross-fold (F2). In another embodiment of the present invention, the upper portion has a length which is unequal to a length of the lower portion. The first open end (203) is not overlapping with the first closed end (204).
[0079] At step (140a), a third cross-fold (F3) is made on the second intermediate folded item (1c) to obtain a final intermediate folded item (Id). The final intermediate folded item (Id) is having an upper portion and a lower portion. The upper portion has a length which is unequal to a length of the lower portion of the final intermediate folded item (Id). The second intermediate folded item (1c) is folded from the first closed end (204) towards the second closed end (206). The third cross-fold (F3) forms a third closed end (207) at the third cross-fold (F3).
[0080] At step (150a), a final cross-fold (F4) is made on the final intermediate folded item (Id) to obtain an outsert (le). The final cross-fold (F4) is made approximately midway between the second closed end (206) and the third closed end (207) of the final intermediate folded item (Id). The outsert (le) is having an upper portion and a lower portion. The upper portion has a length which is equal to a length of the lower portion. After making the final cross-fold (F4), the second closed end (206) is overlapped with the third closed end (207). The outsert (le) is having a length (L”), a width (W”) and a thickness. The length (L”) and the width (W”) of the outsert (le) are approximately same as the length (L’) and the width (W’) of one virtual segment of the plurality of virtual segments.
[0081] The method (100a) ends at step (160a).
[0082] The method (100a) described in steps (110a) to (160a) is adapted to make the outsert (le) from the strip (la) having ten virtual segments (Pl, P2, P3, ....P10) or eleven virtual segments (Pl, P2, P3, ....Pl l) or twelve virtual segments (Pl, P2, P3, ... .Pl 2).
[0083] Referring now to figures 3-3f 1 , a first exemplary embodiment of the present invention is illustrated, the method (100a) is adapted to make an outsert (le) from a strip (la) that is divided into an even number of virtual segments (Pl, P2, P3, ... PneVeii). Specifically, the strip (la) is divided into ten virtual segments (Pl, P2, P3, .... P10). The strip (la) is having two open ends (201, 202).A first cross-fold (Fl) is made on the strip (la) to obtain a first intermediate folded item (lb) having an upper portion and a lower portion. The upper portion has a length which is equal to a length of the lower portion.
[0084] Specifically, the upper portion has the length of five virtual segments and the lower portion has the length of five virtual segments. The open ends (201, 202) of the strip (la) are overlapping each other. The first cross-fold (Fl) forms a first open end (203) and a first closed end (204). The first closed end (204) is formed at the first cross-fold (Fl).
[0085] Further, a second cross-fold (F2) is made on the first intermediate folded item (lb) to obtain a second intermediate folded item (1c) having an upper portion and a lower portion. A second closed end (206) is formed at the second cross-fold (F2). The upper portion of the second intermediate folded item (1c) has a length which is unequal to a length of the lower portion. Specifically, the upper portion has the length of two virtual segments and the lower portion has the length of three virtual segments.
[0086] Furthermore, a third cross-fold (F3) is made on the second intermediate folded item (1c) to obtain a final intermediate folded item (Id) having an upper portion and a lower portion. The third cross-fold (F3) is made to fold the second intermediate folded item (1c) from the first closed end (204) towards the second closed end (206) forming a third closed end (207) of the final intermediate folded item (Id). The third closed end (207) is formed at the third cross-fold (F3). The upper portion of the final intermediate folded item (Id) has a length which is unequal to a length of the lower portion. Specifically, the upper portion has the length of one virtual segment and the lower portion has the length of two virtual segments.
[0087] A final cross-fold (F4) is made on the final intermediate folded item (Id) to obtain an outsert (le) having an upper portion and a lower portion. Thefinal cross-fold (F4) is made approximately midway between the second closed end (206) and the third closed end (207) of the final intermediate folded item (Id). The upper portion has a length which is equal to a length of the lower portion. Specifically, the upper portion has the length of one virtual segment and the lower portion has the length of one virtual segment.
[0088] After making the final cross-fold (F4), the second closed end (206) is overlapped with the third closed end (207). The outsert (le) has a length (L”), a width (W”) and a thickness. The length (L”) and the width (W”) of the outsert (le) are approximately the same as the length (L’) and the width (W’) of one virtual segment of the plurality of virtual segments (Pl, P2, P3, .... P10).
[0089] Referring now to figures 4-4el, a second exemplary embodiment of the present invention is illustrated, the method (100a) is adapted to make an outsert (le) from a strip (la) that is divided into an odd number of virtual segments (Pl, P2, P3, .... PnOdd). Specifically, the strip (la) is divided into eleven virtual segments (Pl, P2, P3, .... Pl 1). The strip (la) is having two open ends (201, 202). A first cross-fold (Fl) is made on the strip (la) to obtain a first intermediate folded item (lb) having an upper portion and a lower portion. The upper portion has a length which is unequal to a length of the lower portion.
[0090] Specifically, the upper portion has the length of five virtual segments and the lower portion has the length of six virtual segments. The open ends (201, 202) of the strip (la) are not overlapping each other and both the open ends (201, 202) are apart from each other’s. The first cross-fold (Fl) forms a first open end (203) and a first closed end (204). The first closed end (204) forms at the first cross-fold (Fl).
[0091] Further, a second cross-fold (F2) is made on the first intermediate folded item (lb) to obtain a second intermediate folded item (1c) having an upper portion and a lower portion. The first open end (203) is overlappedwith the first closed end (204). The second closed end (206) forms at the second cross-fold (F2). The upper portion of the second intermediate folded item (1c) has a length which is equal to a length of the lower portion. Specifically, the upper portion has the length of three virtual segments and the lower portion has the length of three virtual segments.
[0092] Furthermore, a third cross-fold (F3) is made on the second intermediate folded item (1c) to obtain a final intermediate folded item (Id) having an upper portion and a lower portion.
[0093] A final cross-fold (F4) is made on the final intermediate folded item (Id) to obtain an outsert (le) having an upper portion and a lower portion. The final cross-fold (F4) is made approximately midway between the second closed end (206) and the third closed end (207) of the final intermediate folded item (Id). The upper portion has a length which is equal to a length of the lower portion. Specifically, the upper portion has the length of one virtual segment and the lower portion has the length of one virtual segment. After making the final cross-fold (F4), the second closed end (206) overlaps with the third closed end (207). The outsert (le) has a length (L”), a width (W”) and a thickness. The length (L”) and the width (W”) of the outsert (les) are approximately same as the length and the width (W’) of one virtual segment of the plurality of virtual segments (Pl, P2, P3, .... Pl l).
[0094] Referring now to figures 5-5el, a third exemplary embodiment of the present invention is illustrated, the method (100a) is adapted to make an outsert (le) from a strip (la) that is divided into an even number of virtual segments (Pl, P2, P3, .... PneVen). Specifically, the strip (la) is divided into twelve virtual segments (Pl, P2, P3, . . . . P12). The strip (la) has two open ends (201, 202). A first cross-fold (Fl) is made on the strip (la) to obtain a first intermediate folded item (lb) having an upper portion and a lower portion. The upper portion has a length which is equal to a length of the lower portion.
[0095] Specifically, the upper portion has the length of six virtual segments and the lower portion has the length of six virtual segments. The open ends (201, 202) of the strip (la) are overlapping each other. The first cross-fold (Fl) forms a first open end (203) and a first closed end (204). The first closed end (204) forms at the first cross-fold (Fl).
[0096] Further, a second cross-fold (F2) is made on the first intermediate folded item (lb) to obtain a second intermediate folded item (1c) having an upper portion and a lower portion. The first open end (203) is overlapped with the first closed end (204) The second closed end (206) forms at the second cross-fold (F2). The upper portion of the second intermediate folded item (1c) has a length which is equal to a length of the lower portion. Specifically, the upper portion has the length of three virtual segments and the lower portion has the length of three virtual segments.
[0097] Furthermore, a third cross-fold (F3) is made on the second intermediate folded item (1c) to obtain a final intermediate folded item (Id) having an upper portion and a lower portion. The third cross-fold (F3) is made to fold the second intermediate folded item (1c) from the first closed end (204) towards the second closed end (206) forming a third closed end (207) of the final intermediate folded item (Id). The third closed end (207) is formed at the third cross-fold (F3). The upper portion of the final intermediate folded item (Id) has a length which isunequal to a length of the lower portion. Specifically, the upper portion has the length of one virtual segment and the lower portion has the length of two virtual segments.
[0098] A final cross-fold (F4) is made on the final intermediate folded item (Id) to obtain an outsert (le) having an upper portion and a lower portion. The length (L”) and the width (W”) of the outsert (le) are approximately same as the length and the width (W’) of one virtual segment of the plurality of virtual segments (Pl, P2, P3, .... P12).
[0099] Referring now to figures 6, 7-7fl, 8-8f 1 , and 9-9f 1, a method (100b) for making an outsert (If) in accordance with the present invention is illustrated. The method (100b) is provided to make an outsert (If) from a sheet (1). The outsert (If) is a paper fold containing information in the form of write-ups, especially printed information or documentation that is folded and inserted into product packaging, such as pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and consumer goods. The sheet (1) having a length (L) and a width (W) is folded to make a plurality of parallel folds along the length (L) of the sheet (1) to obtain a strip (la). In another embodiment, the plurality of parallel folds are made along the width (W) of the sheet (1) to obtain the strip (la).
[0100] The plurality of parallel folds forms a plurality of elongated sheet (1) panels. As shown in figure 7a, the strip (la) has two open ends (201, 202) and the strip (la) is divided into a plurality of virtual segments (Pl, P2, P3, .... Pn). Each virtual segment has a length (L’) and a width (W’). The length (L’) and the width (W’) are the same for each virtual segment. The strip (la) can be divided into an even number of virtual segments or an odd number of virtual segments depending on the requirement and or the length of the strip (la). The method (100b) for making the outsert (If) includes the following steps:
[0101] The method (100b) starts at step (110b).
[0102] At step (120b), a first cross-fold (Fl) is made on the strip (la) to obtain a first intermediate folded item (lb). The first intermediate folded item (lb) has an upper portion and a lower portion. The upper portion has a length which is equal to a length of the lower portion of the first intermediate folded item (lb). In another embodiment of the present invention, the upper portion has a length which is unequal to a length of the lower portion.
[0103] In one embodiment of the present invention, the strip (la) is divided into an odd number of virtual segments (Pl, P2, P3, ...PnOdd). At step (120b), the first cross-fold (Fl) is made on the said strip (la) to obtain the first intermediate folded item (lb) having an upper portion and a lower portion. The upper portion has a length which is unequal to the length of a lower portion. The lower portion has an even number of virtual segments (Pl, P2, ...Pneven) and the upper portion has an odd number of virtual segments (Pl, P2, . . ,PnOdd).
[0104] In another embodiment of the invention, the strip (la) is divided into an even number of virtual segments (Pl, P2, . . .Pneven). At step (120b), the first cross-fold (Fl) is made on the said strip (la) to obtain the first intermediate folded item (lb) having an upper portion and a lower portion. The upper portion has a length which is equal to a length of the lower portion. The lower portion andthe upper portion have an even number of virtual segments (Pl, P2, . . .Pneven). The open ends (201, 202) of the strip (la) are overlapping with each other.
[0105] In one more embodiment of the invention, the strip (la) is divided into an even number of virtual segments (Pl, P2, . . .Pneven). At step (120), the first cross-fold (Fl) is made on the said strip (la) to obtain the first intermediate folded item (lb) having an upper portion and a lower portion. The upper portion has a length which is unequal to a length of the lower portion. The lower portion and the upper portion have an even number of virtual segments (Pl, P2, . . . PneVen). The open ends (201, 202) of the strip (la) are not overlapping with each other.
[0106] The first cross-fold (Fl) forms a first open end (203) and a first closed end (204) of the first intermediate folded item (lb). The first open end (203) includes the open ends (201, 202) of the strip (la), and the first closed end (204) is formed at the first cross-fold (Fl).
[0107] At step (130b), a second cross-fold (F2) is made on the first intermediate folded item (lb) to obtain a second intermediate folded item (1c). The second intermediate folded item (1c) is having an upper portion and a lower portion. The upper portion has a length equal to a length of the lower portion of the second intermediate folded item (1c). The second cross-fold (F2) is made approximately midway between the first open end (203) and the first closed end (204) of the first intermediate folded item (lb) to obtain the second intermediate folded item (1c). The second cross-fold (F2) forms the second closed end (206). The second closed end (206) is formed at the second cross-fold (F2).
[0108] At step (140b), a third cross-fold (F3) is made on the second intermediate folded item (1c) to obtain a third intermediate folded item (Id). The third intermediate folded item (Id) is having an upper portion and a lower portion. The upper portion has a length which is unequal to a length of the lower portion of the third intermediate folded item (Id). The second intermediate folded item (1c)is folded from the first closed end (204) towards the second closed end (206). The third cross-fold (F3) forms a third closed end (207) at the third cross-fold (F3).
[0109] At step (150b), a fourth cross-fold (F4) is made on the third intermediate folded item (Id) to obtain a final intermediate folded item (le). The final intermediate folded item (le) is having an upper portion and a lower portion. The upper portion has a length which is unequal to a length of the lower portion of the final intermediate folded item (le). The third intermediate folded item (Id) is folded from the third closed end (207) towards the second closed end (206). The fourth cross-fold (F4) forms a fourth closed end (208) at the fourth cross-fold (F4).
[0110] At step (160b), a final cross-fold (F5) is made on the final intermediate folded item (le) to obtain an outsert (If). The final cross-fold (F5) is made approximately midway between the second closed end (206) and the fourth closed end (208) of the final intermediate folded item (le). The outsert (If) is having an upper portion and a lower portion. The upper portion has a length which is equal to a length of the lower portion. After making the final cross-fold (F5), the second closed end (206) is overlapped with the fourth closed end (208). The outsert (If) is having a length (L”), a width (W”) and a thickness. The length (L”) and the width (W”) of the outsert (If) are approximately same as the length (L’) and the width (W’) of one virtual segment of the plurality of virtual segments.
[0111] The method (100b) ends at step (170b).
[0112] The method (100b) described in steps (110b) to (170b) is adapted to make the outsert (If) from the strip (la) having thirteen virtual segments (Pl, P2, P3, ....P13) or fourteen virtual segments (Pl, P2, P3, ....P14) or fifteen virtual segments (Pl, P2, P3, ....P15) or sixteen virtual segments (Pl, P2, P3, ....P16).
[0113] Referring now to figures 7-7fl, a first exemplary embodiment of the present invention is illustrated, the method (100b) is adapted to make an outsert (If) from a strip (la) that is divided into an odd number of virtual segments (Pl, P2, P3, ... PnOdd). Specifically, the strip (la) is divided into thirteen virtual segments (Pl, P2, P3, .... P13). The strip (la) has two open ends (201, 202). A first cross-fold (Fl) is made on the strip (la) to obtain a first intermediate folded item (lb) having an upper portion and a lower portion. The upper portion has a length which is unequal to a length of the lower portion.
[0114] Specifically, the upper portion has the length of five virtual segments and the lower portion has the length of eight virtual segments. The open ends (201, 202) of the strip (la) are not overlapping each other and both the open ends (201, 202) are apart from each other’s. The first cross-fold (Fl) forms a first open end (203) and a first closed end (204). The first closed end (204) is formed at the first cross-fold (Fl).
[0115] Further, a second cross-fold (F2) is made on the first intermediate folded item (lb) to obtain a second intermediate folded item (1c) having an upper portion and a lower portion. The first open end (203) is overlapped with the first closed end (204). The second cross-fold (F2) forms a second closed end (206). The upper portion of the second intermediate folded item (1c) has a length which is equal to a length of the lower portion. Specifically, the upper portion has the length of four virtual segments and the lower portion has the length of four virtual segments.
[0116] Furthermore, a third cross-fold (F3) is made on the second intermediate folded item (1c) to obtain a third intermediate folded item (Id) having an upper portion and a lower portion. The third cross-fold (F3) is made to fold the second intermediate folded item (1c) from the first closed end (204) towards the second closed end (206) forming a third closed end (207) of the third intermediate folded item (Id). The third closed end (207) is formed at the third cross-fold (F3).The upper portion of the third intermediate folded item (Idhas a length which is unequal to a length of the lower portion. Specifically, the upper portion has the length of one virtual segment and the lower portion has the length of three virtual segments.
[0117] A fourth cross-fold (F4) is made on the third intermediate folded item (Id) to obtain a final intermediate folded item (le) having an upper portion and a lower portion. The fourth cross-fold (F4) is made to fold the third intermediate folded item (Id) from the third closed end (207) towards the second closed end (206) forming a fourth closed end (208) of the final intermediate folded item (le). The fourth closed end (208) is formed at the fourth cross-fold (F4). The upper portion has a length which is unequal to a length of the lower portion. Specifically, the upper portion has the length of one virtual segment and the lower portion has the length of two virtual segments.
[0118] A final cross -fold (F5) is made on the final intermediate folded item (le) to obtain an outsert (If) having an upper portion and a lower portion. The final cross-fold (F5) is made approximately midway between the second closed end (206) and the fourth closed end (208) of the final intermediate folded item (le). The upper portion has a length which is equal to a length of the lower portion. Specifically, the upper portion has the length of one virtual segment and the lower portion has the length of one virtual segment.
[0119] After making the final cross-fold (F5), the second closed end (206) is overlapped with the fourth closed end (208). The outsert (If) has a length (L”), a width (W”) and a thickness. The length (L”) and the width (W”) of the outsert (If) are approximately the same as the length (L’) and the width (W’) of one virtual segment of the plurality of virtual segments (Pl, P2, P3, .... P13).
[0120] Referring now to figures 8-8fl, a second exemplary embodiment of the present invention is illustrated, the method (100b) is adapted tomake an outsert (If) from a strip (la) that is divided into an even number of virtual segments (Pl, P2, P3, .... PneVen). Specifically, the strip (la) is divided into fourteen virtual segments (Pl, P2, P3, . . . . P14). The strip (la) is having two open ends (201, 202). A first cross-fold (Fl) is made on the strip (la) to obtain a first intermediate folded item (lb) having an upper portion and a lower portion. The upper portion is having a length which is unequal to a length of the lower portion.
[0121] Specifically, the upper portion has the length of six virtual segments and the lower portion has the length of eight virtual segments. The open ends (201, 202) of the strip (la) are not overlapping each other and both the open ends (201, 202) are apart from each other’s. The first cross-fold (Fl) forms a first open end (203) and a first closed end (204). The first closed end (204) forms at the first cross-fold (Fl).
[0122] Further, a second cross-fold (F2) is made on the first intermediate folded item (lb) to obtain a second intermediate folded item (1c) having an upper portion and a lower portion. The first open end (203) is overlapped with the first closed end (204). The second cross-fold (F2) forms the second closed end (206). The upper portion of the second intermediate folded item (1c) has a length which is equal to a length of the lower portion. Specifically, the upper portion has the length of four virtual segments and the lower portion has the length of four virtual segments.
[0123] Furthermore, a third cross-fold (F3) is made on the second intermediate folded item (1c) to obtain a third intermediate folded item (Id) having an upper portion and a lower portion. The third cross-fold (F3) is made to fold the second intermediate folded item (1c) from the first closed end (204) towards the second closed end (206) forming a third closed end (207) of the third intermediate folded item (Id). The third closed end (207) is formed at the third cross-fold (F3). The upper portion of the third intermediate folded item (Id) has a length which is unequal to a length of the lower portion. Specifically, the upper portion has thelength of one virtual segment and the lower portion has the length of three virtual segments.
[0124] A fourth cross-fold (F4) is made on the third intermediate folded item (Id) to obtain a final intermediate folded item (le) having an upper portion and a lower portion.
[0125] A final cross-fold (F5) is made on the final intermediate folded item (le) to obtain an outsert (If) having an upper portion and a lower portion. The final cross-fold (F5) is made approximately midway between the second closed end (206) and the fourth closed end (208) of the final intermediate folded item (le). The upper portion hasa length which is equal to a length of the lower portion. Specifically, the upper portion has the length of one virtual segment and the lower portion has the length of one virtual segment. After making the final cross-fold (F5), the second closed end (206) is overlapped with the fourth closed end (208). The outsert (If) has a length (L”), a width (W”) and a thickness. The length (L”) and the width (W”) of the outsert (If) are approximately same as the length and the width (W’) of one virtual segment of the plurality of virtual segments (Pl, P2, P3, .... P14).
[0126] Referring now to figures 9-9f 1 , a third exemplary embodiment of the present invention is illustrated, the method (100b) is adapted to make an outsert (If) from a strip (la) that is divided into an even number of virtual segments (Pl, P2, P3, .... PneVeii). Specifically, the strip (la) is divided into sixteen virtual segments (Pl, P2, P3, .... Pl 6). The strip (la) is having two open ends (201, 202).A first cross-fold (Fl) is made on the strip (la) to obtain a first intermediate folded item (lb) having an upper portion and a lower portion. The upper portion has a length which is equal to a length of the lower portion.
[0127] Specifically, the upper portion has the length of eight virtual segments and the lower portion has the length of eight virtual segments. The open ends (201, 202) of the strip (la) are overlapping each other. The first cross-fold (Fl) forms a first open end (203) and a first closed end (204). The first closed end (204) forms at the first cross-fold (Fl).
[0128] Further, a second cross-fold (F2) is made on the first intermediate folded item (lb) to obtain a second intermediate folded item (1c) having an upper portion and a lower portion.
[0129] Furthermore, a third cross-fold (F3) is made on the second intermediate folded item (1c) to obtain a third intermediate folded item (Id) having an upper portion and a lower portion. Specifically, the upper portion has the length of one virtual segment and the lower portion has the length of three virtual segments.
[0130] A fourth cross-fold (F4) is made on the third intermediate folded item (Id) to obtain a final intermediate folded item (le) having an upper portion and a lower portion.
[0131] A final cross -fold (F5) is made on the final intermediate folded item (le) to obtain an outsert (If) having an upper portion and a lower portion. After making the final cross-fold (F5), the second closed end (206) is overlapped with the fourth closed end (208). The outsert (If) has a length (L”), a width (W”) and a thickness. The length (L”) and the width (W”) of the outsert (If) are approximately same as the length (L’) and the width (W’) of one virtual segment of the plurality of virtual segments (Pl, P2, P3, . . . . P16).
