Description

[0001] 202300186 Foreign Filing 1 Composition comprising triglycerides Field of the invention The invention relates to a composition comprising certain triglycerides with a low content of cyclopropenoid fatty acid (CPFA) acyl groups while maintaining a high content of tocopherol as well as the use of this composition, especially in cosmetic applications, and a method for treating baobab oil. Prior art Baobab oil is used in the cosmetics industry because of its caring, skin soothing, moisturizing and antioxidant effects. It is extracted from the seed of the baobab fruit. The natural baobab oil obtained by pressing the seeds typically contains 5–7% triglycerides with cyclopropenoid fatty acid (CPFA) acyl groups. Due to its toxicity potential, it is hardly used in the food industry and only to a very limited extent in the cosmetics industry, because the toxic cyclopropenoid fatty acids are released by hydrolysis of the triglyceride. In baobab oil market products the content of triglycerides with cyclopropenoid fatty acid acyl groups is commonly unchanged compared to the natural oil. Treatment of baobab oil by heat, possibly combined with steam, can destroy CPFA acyl groups, but also reduces the residual amounts of vitamins, other tocopherols and phytosterols that are valuable as active ingredients. In refined and even deodorized variants of baobab oil, the content of triglycerides with cyclopropenoid fatty acid acyl groups is therefore often reduced, but still at a toxicologically critical level of more than 1%. Also, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH), which are known to be cancerogenic in some cases, are frequently generated by a harsh temperature treatment. The typical procedures for triglyceride exploitation and refinement are described in Ullmann’s Encyclopedia of Industrial Chemistry by Alfred Thomas, Bertrand Matthäus and Hans-Jochen Fiebig in the chapter „Fats and Fatty Oils“, published on September 30th, 2015. The object of the present invention was therefore to provide a baobab oil, especially for the cosmetics industry, that has a significantly lower content of triglycerides with cyclopropenoid fatty acid acyl groups but still comprises tocopherols at high amounts, which is beneficial for the oxidative stability. 202300186 Foreign Filing 2 Description of the invention it was found that the disadvantages from the prior art described above can be overcome by subjecting the baobab oil to a certain temperature treatment while passing water steam through the oil. The instant invention thus provides a composition comprising certain triglycerides with a low content of cyclopropenoid fatty acid acyl (CPFA) groups and a high content of tocopherols as well as the use of this composition, especially in cosmetic applications, and a method for treating baobab oil. The continuously recorded electrical conductivity of the test solution increases due to the absorption of the reaction products. This allows their appearance to be detected. The time it takes to detect secondary reaction products is called the induction time. It characterizes the oxidation stability of oils and fats, the higher the induction time the higher the oxidative stability.
