AI Technical Summary
Existing carton packaging technologies face challenges such as long waiting times, cooling times, inaccuracies, deformation, and poor mechanical resistance, especially when processing thick cardboard and high-speed procedures.
A combined welding and closing station that uses ultrasonic sealing with a sonotrode to immediately seal the bottom of the carton, followed by pneumatic grippers folding the packaging edge for quick and burr-free welding of polyethylene parts, ensuring a sealed and upright container case.
This solution enables high-speed packaging with precise, burr-free welding, eliminating the need for additional closing operations and reducing production time, while ensuring the mechanical integrity of the packaging.

Abstract
Description
[0001] “Combined welding and closing station for circular and tubular shaped carton packaging machine with high production speed performance”.
[0002] Field of the invention.
[0003] The invention concerns a combined welding and closing station for circular and tubular container packaging suitable to make in a sole step the welding and the realization of a closing border of the packaging.
[0004] State of the art.
[0005] Currently carton packaging are mainly made from casting of parts in thermoplastic materials, i.e. polypropylene. This technique unfortunately has disadvantages typical of packaging with castings, what are the waiting times for mergers, cooling times of melting parts, casting inaccuracies for drippings, deformation of polyethylene during melting with hot air jet and / or resistors and poor resistance to mechanical stress. In the art is known when described in the document EP0167645, but both the process than the device described are not suitable for machining thick cardboard and for extremely fast processing procedures.
[0006] Description of the invention.
[0007] The present invention consists of a combined welding and closing station of the lower edge for circular and cylindrical carton packaging machines, with a closing of the edge of a packaging immediately after the bottom of the carton has been sealed with ultrasonic sealing using a sonotrode, with polyethylene parts suitable arranged for welding and contained in the cardboard case and in the bottom, with pneumatic grippers performing, immediately after welding, the folding of the packaging edge. The invented station so comes to create a container case with lower edge which ensures its vertical position, with a sole closing operation of the plastic inside parts in polyethylene and cardboard packaging and realization of the lower edge. Thus having considerable advantages over the art previously known, such as a high packaging speed of the case, joining of the polyethylene parts without burrs or imperfection onto the polyethylene parts to be joined as they are made with ultrasonic welding. These and other aims and advantages of the present invention are more evident from the following detailed description of a preferred embodiment, with reference to the enclosed drawings, where the invention is illustrated in an indicative view and so not limiting.
[0008] Brief description of the drawings.
[0009] Figure 1 is perspective view of a welding combined station with three jaws folding of the lower edge of the vertical case. Figure 2 is view of the sonotrode, i.e. of the end part of the ultrasonic welding station, placed long the axis of the case to be closed. Figure 3 is view of the case with the jaws and bottom to be joined with ultrasonic welding with folding of the edge case.
[0010] Detailed description.
[0011] The combined welding and closing station for circular and tubular shaped carton packaging machines comprises an ultrasonic welding station 1 , equipped with sonotrode 2, and a closing station 3 of the cardboard case 4 with polyethylene coated inner surface 5 and cardboard bottom 6 with polyethylene inner coating 5, with the closing station equipped with jaws 7, where the jaws 7 bend the lower edge 8 of the case 4 to the bottom 6, held in position by the sonotrode 2, to ensure the sealing to ultrasonic welding and crush the lower edge 8 just folded. The jaws 7 are preferably pneumatically actuated. In a preferred embodiment the jaws 7 are three, to fully cover the packaging border and tamp it down inside the packaging. In working step the circular or tubular cardboard case is put in front the ultrasonic welding station 1 , with the inner surface of the case 4 coated in polyethylene 5 or in other thermoplastic material, with the lower edge 8 not yet folded and the bottom 6 in carton with inside polyethylene 5 already inserted but not sealed, so to have the two polyethylene surfaces 5 in contact each other. By starting the closing station 3 the lower edge 8 is folded, with the jaws 7 holding firmly the bottom 6 to the tube body or any circular shape, with the sonotrode 2 placed inside the case 4 to arrange the welding of the bottom 6 to the case 4 body, melding by ultrasound the polyethylene surfaces 5 in contact each other. In this way a tube or any other circular case completely sealed is arranged with the lower border 8 folded, without the necessity of other closing workings. The ultrasonic welding station 1 has very short lead times, not having to wait the fusion and cooling times necessary in the previous art and without defects on the polyethylene parts, Also the realization of the lower border 8 is arranged very quickly with the jaws 7 that arranged a quick packaging of the case. The combination of the ultrasonic welding station 1 and in succession on the same axis of the closing station 3 so provides a quick realization of the finished case and ready to be used with any other workings. The invention is possible of a lot of changing and variations all covered by the present invented object. All the parts can be replaced with other technically equivalent without exit from the field of protection of claims.
