Description

IMPROVEMENT IN DISPOSABLE DIAPER WITH WASTE CONTENTION SYSTEM BY ISOLATION OF THE END

[0001] This Utility Model Patent application concerns an IMPROVEMENT IN A DISPOSABLE DIAPER WITH A WASTE CONTENTION SYSTEM BY ISOLATION OF THE ENDS, the object of this patent, which constitutes a physical blocking system in geriatric diapers to prevent contamination of the urethra by fecal material; its field of application is the health area, personal hygiene articles for the elderly (female public), more specifically disposable absorbent pads. Fundamentals of the Invention

[0002] A diaper is an absorbent, generally disposable, article designed to be used by humans for the containment and collection of bodily waste (urine and feces).

[0003] A diaper generally consists of several layers of materials, each with specific functions, and as standard they have: a top sheet, an absorbent core, a waterproof back sheet and a fastening system on the side flaps.

[0004] The top sheet is a soft, comfortable layer that lies next to the individual's skin and helps keep them dry by absorbing moisture. The absorbent core is made of a blend of fluff pulp and polymer particles, which can absorb and retain a large amount of liquid. The back sheet is a waterproof layer that prevents any leaks, and the fastening system secures the diaper so that it fits snugly.

[0005] The practical use of diapers is aimed at those who present some form of fecal and / or urinary incontinence, in general, newborns up to a certain age in their childhood or elderly people who, from a certain age or specific circumstance, find themselves in a state that reduces or makes it impossible for them to carry out their physiological needs as expected.

[0006] Some technological advances related to diapers have been proposed and patented over the years. It's clear that most diaper models on the market don't vary based on the user's gender. When conducting a technological mapping of the state of the art, the following patents stand out:

[0007] [BR 11 2020 013742 1, filed on 02 / 21 / 2018 and published on 10 / 20 / 2020, under the title “DIAPER WITH ANATOMIC SEPARATOR AND POCKET" which constitutes a diaper with an anatomical separator - this being the essential part of the invention - thus configured with the objective of preventing feces and urine deposited in a diaper from mixing and causing diseases to babies (i.e.: skin rashes, urinary tract infections, among others) and, in this sense, for exclusive use in babies, it configures a solution inapplicable to the target audience - whose anatomy is completely different due to their robust and already developed body mass and immune system. Despite having a transversal divider that, in theory, would block the passage of feces, it does not take into account the anatomical variations of each individual, their movement during use of the diaper and the elasticity of the material used ─ factors that are capable of enabling contamination due to gaps generated as use progresses.

[0008] A model suitable for the male gender also stands out in patent No. BR 202021023837-8 U2, granted to MUNHÃO in April 2022; this finding a solution through a compartment in which the penis is inserted ─ being, therefore, inappropriate for the female public.

[0009] Given women's anatomy, the urethra is more susceptible to contamination by fecal matter, which not only creates the possibility of skin irritation but also increases susceptibility to urinary tract infections. Therefore, the market lacks appropriate technology for women—a system that prevents fecal matter from coming into contact with the urethra.

[0010] [This diaper model also features an additional fecal containment system consisting of two semicircular, diametrically opposed flaps located in the center of the diaper, on the lateral ends of the Containment Barrier. This system reinforces the physical seal, preventing contamination of the urethra by fecal material emerging from the sides of the diaper.

[0011] The geriatric diaper with fecal containment system will work as follows: (i) the film protecting the adhesive of the fecal containment barrier on the inside of the diaper is removed; (ii) the containment barrier is then glued to the perineal region of the patient / user / consumer; finally, (iii) the film protecting the adhesives on the side closing flaps of the diaper is removed, securing it to the patient and adjusting the anatomical elastic folds on the user's legs.

[0012] To remove the diaper, the bulk of the fecal material is first removed with part of the diaper still attached to the perineum to protect the urethra. Then, the containment barrier is removed by applying EFA-based oil. Removal is done by applying oil containing EFAs (Essential Fatty Acids), MCTs (Medium Chain Triglycerides), and Vitamins A and E.

[0013] This Utility Model Patent application concerns an Improvement to a Disposable Diaper with a Waste Containment System by Edge Isolation, for female consumers, with a physical blocking system to prevent fecal contamination. The fecal containment system applied to the diaper features, on its inner surface, a system composed of two parallel elastic sealing pleats arranged longitudinally, running the entire length of the diaper. Between the two sealing pleats is a non-absorbent protrusion with adhesive for the perineum region, which acts as a physical barrier. The elastic sealing pleats serve to tighten the part of the diaper near the inner thighs, helping the diaper to conform to the user's body shape and also preventing leaks from the sides of the diaper.

[0014] The main difference of the claimed invention is a feces containment system, located on the inside of the diaper, characterized by a soft protuberance 5 to 10 mm high by 10 mm wide, padded with 45 to 90% LLDP foam and 10 to 55% polypropylene, coated on the upper part (which will be in contact with the perineum region) with an adhesive dressing composed of a semipermeable film of polyurethane and carboxymethyl cellulose polymer (CMC).

[0015] Unlike the standard diaper already popularly known, the geriatric diaper with fecal containment system is made using the traditional diaper manufacturing system, with the exception of the application of the containment barrier, which will require the introduction of an additional process of gluing by pressure and heat.

[0016] The adhesive dressing, composed of a semipermeable polyurethane film and carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) polymer, is indicated as a primary dressing for wounds with light to moderate exudation and as protection for intact skin. This system creates a physical barrier, coupled with the adhesive dressing film, that, when adhered to the skin, prevents the passage of feces from the anal region to the patient's urethra, allowing for the sanitation of fecal material without contact with the patient's urinary system.

[0017] The solution to this need involves introducing a flap system combined with a small, non-absorbent adhesive pad to be placed on the perineum, physically separating the urethra from the anal area. This pad features a system of adhesive elastic folds suitable for skin, including that of the elderly.

[0018] The flap system consists of elastic pleats for internal sealing, anatomical elastic pleats, and external elastic pleats. The adhesive pad flaps ensure a more anatomical seal, allowing the elderly, especially women, to move without the risk of transporting fecal matter to the area where it would otherwise come into contact with the urethra. The elastic pleats for internal sealing ensure that fecal matter is concentrated in a single area, where the barrier created by the adhesive pad seals any passage of fecal matter.

[0019] The geriatric diaper with fecal containment system is made using the traditional diaper manufacturing system, with the exception of the application of the containment barrier, which will require the introduction of an additional pressure and heat gluing process.

[0020] Absorbent Core Formation: The first step is to create the diaper's absorbent core. Cellulose pulp and superabsorbent polymers are mixed to form the central structure that will absorb liquids. The mixture is processed in a special machine that shapes the core into thin, uniform layers.

[0021] Adding Layers and Components: The inner layer, outer layer, and other components are added around the absorbent core. The inner layer, made of soft, absorbent materials, is placed directly over the core to ensure the user's skin stays dry. The outer layer, made of waterproof material, is applied on top to prevent leaks. Additionally, elastic and leak barriers are inserted into the sides of the diaper.

[0022] The containment barrier is inserted after all the diaper's internal elements have been shaped. It is applied through a heat and pressure welding process applied to the perimeter of the barrier (which has a rectangular cushion shape, with polypropylene or polyethylene tabs that fuse with the inner lining when pressure and heat are applied precisely). Cutting and Shaping: Diapers are cut and shaped into their final shape using high-precision cutting machines. Depending on the diaper model, specific adjustments can be made, such as anatomically shaped cuts. Adhesive Tape Attachment: Adjustable adhesive tapes are applied to the sides of the diaper to allow it to be secured and adjusted around the user's waist.

[0023] The innovation is explained below with reference to the attached drawings, which are represented for illustrative and non-limiting purposes:

[0024] Figure 1 shows the geriatric diaper, open, with its internal part exposed, where it is possible to see (1) the flap system and (2) adhesives for closing the diaper, (3) the internal lining of the diaper (absorbent core) – composed of cellulose pulp and superabsorbent polymers, (4) the ergonomic elastic – which allows adjustment and comfort around the legs, (5) the internal elastic sealing pleats and (6) external elastic sealing pleats – which prevent the leakage of liquids / waste through the sides of the diaper, (7) adhesive and non-absorbent pad with (8) adhesive to be glued to the perineum.

[0025] Figure 2 illustrates the longitudinal section of the diaper, revealing the protuberance represented by the (7) adhesive and non-absorbent pad with (8) adhesive to be glued to the perineum, as well as the (3) internal lining of the diaper (absorbent core), and the (9) external layer (external lining) consisting of a polyolefin film.

[0026] Figure 3 shows the diaper open, with its external part exposed, where it is possible to see the (9) external lining, the (4) ergonomic elastic, which serves to tighten the part of the diaper close to the inner part of the thighs, helping the diaper to follow the shape of the user's body and also preventing leaks from the sides of the diaper; finally, it indicates the (1) flap system with (2) adhesive closure.
