Description

POINT CLOUD DATA SET RECTIFICATION AND REGISTRATION METHOD AND APPARATUS, AND COMPUTER DEVICETECHNICAL FIELD

[0001] This application relates to the field of point cloud data, and in particular, to a point cloud data set rectification and registration method and apparatus, a computer device, and a storage medium.BACKGROUND

[0002] The continuous development of three-dimensional (3D) scanning devices drives the application of the 3D point cloud reconstruction technology in industries such as machinery manufacturing, medical treatment, and robot navigation. In the Grab Ship Unloader (GSU) grab and hatch detection scenario, since a single lidar cannot cover the entire region, a plurality of lidars with different angles need to be installed at different positions to capture point clouds of regions of interest. How to integrate point clouds in different coordinate systems into a unified coordinate system to obtain a complete data model of a region of interest is an important step.SUMMARY

[0003] This summary is provided to introduce a selection of concepts in a simplified form that are further described below in the detailed description. This summary is not intended to identify key features or essential features of the claimed subject matter, nor is intended to be used as an aid in determining the scope of the claimed subject matter.

[0004] Based on this, this application discloses a point cloud data set rectification and registration method, including:

[0005] selecting a sea surface plane and a pillar plane in first point cloud data, where the pillar plane is perpendicular to the sea surface plane;

[0006] rectifying a first coordinate axis and a second coordinate axis of the first point cloud data based on the sea surface plane and the pillar plane, where the first coordinate axis is perpendicular to the sea surface plane, and the second coordinate axis is perpendicular to the pillar plane;

[0007] registering a coordinate system of second point cloud databased on the rectified first  point cloud data, wherein the first point cloud data and the second point cloud data have a common part; and based on the common part, making the coordinate system of the second point cloud data coincide with the coordinate system of the first point cloud data through rotation and translation, and

[0008] obtaining the registered first point cloud data and the registered second point cloud data .

[0009] Through the foregoing manner, the point cloud data rectification and registration method can be faster and more efficient.

[0010] Further, the rectifying a first coordinate axis and a second coordinate axis of the first point cloud data includes:

[0011] rectifying the first coordinate axis and the second coordinate axis of the first point cloud data, where the first coordinate axis is perpendicular to the second coordinate axis.

[0012] More specific, rectifying a first coordinate axis and a second coordinate axis of the first point cloud data based on the sea surface plane and the pillar plane comprises:

[0013] rectifying the first coordinate axis perpendicular to the sea surface plane and then rectifying the second coordinate axis perpendicular to the pillar plane.

[0014] Through the foregoing manner, the first point data can be rectified, to prepare for subsequent rectification and registration of other point cloud data.

[0015] Further, the registering a coordinate system of second point cloud data based on the rectified first point cloud data includes:

[0016] registering the coordinate system of the second point cloud data based on a first registration mode; and then registering the coordinate system of the second point cloud data based on a second registration mode, where a registration degree of the second registration mode is higher than that of the first registration mode.

[0017] Through the foregoing manner, coarse registration is performed first, and then fine registration is performed. In this way, the registration process of point cloud data is more detailed and comprehensive, thereby facilitating subsequent application of the point cloud data.

[0018] Further, the obtaining a registered point cloud data set includes: obtaining a transformation matrix of the point cloud data set.

[0019] Through the foregoing manner, the transformation matrix of the point cloud data set can be obtained, that is, the point cloud data can be transformed based on the transformation matrix. For some subsequent supplementary point cloud data, the transformation matrix can also be used for rectification and registration, to obtain a more convenient and accurate result.

[0020] More specific, registering a coordinate system of second point cloud databased on the  rectified first point cloud data, wherein the first point cloud data and the second point cloud data have a common part; and based on the common part, making the coordinate system of the second point cloud data coincide with the coordinate system of the first point cloud data through rotation and translation comprises:

[0021] obtaining matrix of rectified first point cloud data and matrix of pre-rectified second point cloud data;

[0022] calculating rotation matrix and translation matrix between the matrix of rectified first point cloud data and the matrix of pre-rectified second point cloud data;

[0023] based on the rotation matrix and translation matrix, making the coordinate system of the second point cloud data coincide with the coordinate system of the first point cloud data.

[0024] In addition, this application further discloses a point cloud data set rectification and registration apparatus, including:

[0025] a rectification module, configured to select a sea surface plane and a pillar plane in first point cloud data, where the pillar plane is perpendicular to the sea surface plane; and rectify a first coordinate axis and a second coordinate axis of the first point cloud data based on the sea surface plane and the pillar plane, where the first coordinate axis is perpendicular to the sea surface plane, and the second coordinate axis is perpendicular to the pillar plane; and

[0026] a registration module (202) , configured to register a coordinate system of second point cloud data based on the rectified first point cloud data, wherein the first point cloud data and the second point cloud data have a common part; and based on the common part, and make the coordinate system of the second point cloud data coincide with the coordinate system of the first point cloud data through rotation and translation; and obtain the registered first point cloud data and the registered second point cloud data.

[0043] In the following specification, for the purpose of explanation, many specific details are provided. However, it may be understood that implementations of the present invention can be implemented without such specific details. In other examples, well-known circuits, structures, and technologies are not shown in detail so as not to obscure the understanding of the specification.

[0044] References throughout this specification to "one implementation, " "an implementation, " "an example implementation, " "some implementations, " "various implementations, " and the like represent that the described implementations of the present invention may include particular features, structures, or characteristics. However, not every implementation is required to include such specific features, structures, or characteristics. In addition, some implementations may have some, all, or none of the features described for another  implementation.

[0045] In some implementation scenarios, first, point cloud data acquired by lidars at different positions needs to be converted into a unified coordinate system, and then the unified coordinate system of the point cloud data needs to be converted into a standard coordinate system with a horizontal axis and a vertical axis as coordinate axes. Then, three-view projections of the point cloud can be obtained and a lightweight model is run on these projected images. The two steps are referred to as point cloud registration and point cloud rectification.

[0046] The point cloud rectification is common in the field of automatic driving. Due to bumps or tilts during lidar installation, the ground may not be horizontal in an original lidar coordinate system, which affects subsequent point cloud processing, such as point cloud segmentation and point cloud classification. Therefore, original coordinates need to be transformed, to make the vertical axis perpendicular to the ground.

[0047] The essence of the point cloud registration is to obtain a relatively precise coordinate transformation matrix through calculation, and to unify multi-view point cloud data into a specific coordinate system through rigid transformations such as rotation and translation. In some embodiment, the transformation matrix could comprise rotation matrix and translation matrix.

[0048] Generally, the registration is to discover the position conversion matrix of the overlap between clouds, which plays an important role in the fields of robotics and computer vision.

[0049] This application discloses a point cloud data set rectification and registration method, including:

[0050] S101. Select a sea surface plane and a pillar plane in first point cloud data, where the pillar plane is perpendicular to the sea surface plane.

[0051] Specifically, the sea surface plane and the pillar plane approximately perpendicular to the sea surface plane are selected from the first point cloud data. In some embodiments, the sea surface plane may be on the bottom of the first point cloud data. The sea surface plane may be used as a baseline and plays a key role in subsequent rectification. For example, when the point cloud data is tilted, a horizontal position is found through the sea surface plane. In some embodiments, the pillar plane is approximately perpendicular to the sea surface plane. In some embodiments, the pillar plane may not be completely vertical at 90 degrees, but may have a certain inclination relative to the sea surface plane. However, in an implementation, it is ensured as much as possible that the pillar plane is perpendicular to the sea surface plane.

[0052] S102. Rectify a first coordinate axis and a second coordinate axis of the first point cloud  data based on the sea surface plane and the pillar plane, where the first coordinate axis is perpendicular to the sea surface plane, and the second coordinate axis is perpendicular to the pillar plane.

[0053] Specifically, in some embodiments, the first coordinate axis may be an x-axis direction of the point cloud data, and the second coordinate axis may be a y-axis direction of the point cloud data. Therefore, in some embodiments, based on the sea surface plane and the pillar plane, rectifying the x-axis direction and the y-axis direction of the first point cloud data is making the x-axis direction perpendicular to the sea surface plane and making the y-axis direction perpendicular to the pillar plane. In this way, the overall point cloud data in the first point cloud rotates as the x-axis and the y-axis change. The objective is to remove the tilt of the overall first point cloud data, to adjust or rectify the direction of the point cloud data correctly.

[0054] S103. Register a coordinate system of second point cloud data based on the rectified first point cloud data, where the first point cloud data and the second point cloud data have a common part; calculate rotation and translation between a coordinate system of the first point cloud data and the coordinate system of the second point cloud data based on the common part, and make the coordinate system of the second point cloud data coincide with the coordinate system of the first point cloud data through rotation and translation.

[0055] Specifically, in some embodiments, after the first point cloud data is rectified, the second point cloud data is adjusted accordingly based on the first point cloud data. The second point cloud data may include a plurality of pieces of point cloud data acquired by a plurality of different radars. The second point cloud data is only used as a name to distinguish from the first point cloud data, and is not limited in quantity and form. Further, point cloud data sharing a common part with or overlapping with the first point cloud data exists in the second point cloud data. Registration for the coordinate system of the second point cloud data may be performed based on the common or overlapping point cloud data. The non-overlapping point cloud data in the second point cloud data is registered through the common or overlapping point cloud data. Then, rotation and translation between the coordinate system of the first point cloud data and the coordinate system of the second point cloud data are further calculated based on the common part, and the coordinate system of the second point cloud data is made to coincide with the coordinate system of the first point cloud data through rotation and translation.

[0056] S104. Obtain a registered point cloud data set, where the point cloud data set includes the first point cloud data and the second point cloud data.

[0057] Finally, after all the second point cloud data is registered, the registered point cloud data set may be obtained. The point cloud data set includes the first point cloud data and the second point cloud data. The registered point cloud data set may be used for tasks such as subsequent analysis and modeling of the point cloud data.

[0058] Through the foregoing manner, point cloud data rectification and registration can be implemented, and the method is faster and more efficient.

[0059] Further, the rectifying a first coordinate axis and a second coordinate axis of the first point cloud data includes:

[0060] rectifying the first coordinate axis and the second coordinate axis of the first point cloud data, where the first coordinate axis is perpendicular to the second coordinate axis.

[0061] As described above, the first coordinate axis is the x-axis, and the second coordinate axis is the y-axis. In some embodiments, it is ensured that the first coordinate axis is perpendicular to the second coordinate axis, that is, it is ensured that the x-axis is perpendicular to the y-axis.

[0062] Through the foregoing manner, when corresponding first point cloud data is rectified, it can be ensured that the corresponding first point cloud data is not tilted after rectification and remain independently vertical at the sea surface plane and the pillar plane, so that the rectification process is meaningful.

[0063] Further, the registering a coordinate system of second point cloud data based on the rectified first point cloud data includes:

[0064] registering the coordinate system of the second point cloud data based on a first registration mode; and then registering the coordinate system of the second point cloud data based on a second registration mode, where a registration degree of the second registration mode is higher than that of the first registration mode.

[0065] Specifically, the first registration mode may be Ransac technology, which provides a coarse registration manner, and the second registration mode is Icp (iterative closest point) technology, which provides a fine registration manner. The registration manner of Icp is higher in precision than Ransac. However, by combining the two manners, the registration of the entire point cloud data set can be completed effectively and completely.

[0066] Further, the obtaining a registered point cloud data set includes: obtaining a transformation matrix of the point cloud data set.

[0067] The transformation matrix is a number and a distance of rotation and translation that need to be performed during the foregoing rectification and registration. These can be recorded and stored as formulas or matrix data, and used for rectification and registration of  other point cloud data in the point cloud data set. The manner is faster and more efficient.

[0068] Through the foregoing manner, the transformation matrix of the point cloud data set may be obtained, that is, the point cloud data may be converted based on the transformation matrix. For some subsequent supplementary point cloud data, the transformation matrix may also be used for rectification and registration, and a result is more convenient and accurate.

[0069] An embodiment of this application discloses an automatic point cloud rectification and registration tool applied to a plurality of lidars. An input is raw point clouds of two lidars, and an output is converted point clouds, and these point clouds are used in subsequent grab and hatch detection models. Lidar 1 is used as a reference point cloud, and other lidars are registered with lidar 1. The entire process includes two steps. The first step is to rectify a coordinate system. It can be seen that a grab raw point cloud on the left side of FIG. 4, a coordinate system of the grab raw point cloud is oblique, and therefore three-view projections, top, side, and front cannot be obtained from the coordinate system. However, the three-view projections are needed for subsequent modules, such as grab and hatch detection. Therefore, the point cloud needs to be transformed, to make the coordinate system horizontal and vertical. The method in the embodiments of this application is to segment the sea surface plane and the pillar plane from the raw point cloud. As shown in FIG. 4, the sea surface plane is on the bottom and the one approximately perpendicular to the sea surface plane is the pillar plane. Then, the raw point cloud is rotated, to make the x-axis perpendicular to the sea surface plane and make the y-axis perpendicular to the pillar plane. The correction result is shown in FIG. 4. The second step is to align point cloud data 2 with point cloud data 1. The point cloud registration part includes point cloud data before registration by two lidars, namely point cloud data 2 and point cloud data 1. Since coordinate systems are different, the point cloud data 2 and the point cloud data 1 are not aligned. In the implementation of this application, methods based on Ransac and Icp are used to iteratively calculate rotation and translation between two point clouds to minimize a registration error. The transformation matrix is finally obtained. The registration result is shown in the lower right of FIG. 4. The rightmost part shows the final result of an automatic calibration tool, the upper part is an input, and the lower part is an output. In some embodiments, point cloud data 1 is obtained from lidar 1, and point cloud data 2 is obtained from lidar 2.

[0070] There are two major differences between this application and the known solution or product:

[0071] 1. For a point cloud rectification module in an automatic point cloud rectification and registration tool of this application, unlike point cloud rectification in the field of automatic  driving that a longitudinal axis of a raw lidar point cloud is perpendicular to the ground, in this application, an x-axis of the raw lidar point cloud is perpendicular to the sea surface plane and a y-axis is perpendicular to the pillar plane. Since the pillar plane is approximately perpendicular to the sea surface plane, the sea surface plane has a higher priority. In this application, the x-axis is first made to be perpendicular to the sea surface plane and fixed, then the coordinate system is rotated along the x-axis, and the x-axis is maintained stationary and the y-axis is made to be perpendicular to the pillar plane as much as possible.

[0072] 2. An implementation of this application can implement point cloud rectification and point cloud registration in an end-to-end manner.

[0073] Regarding whether the implementation of this application is implemented, whether a target implementation object can perform point cloud rectification based on two planes that are not strictly perpendicular may be first checked. Then, whether the target implementation object can perform point cloud rectification and point cloud registration in an end-to-end manner is checked.

[0074] It should be understood that, although the steps in the flowchart of FIG. 1 are sequentially shown according to the indication of arrows, the steps are not necessarily sequentially performed according to the sequence indicated by the arrows. Unless otherwise explicitly specified in this specification, the steps are performed without any strict sequence limit, and may be performed in other sequences. In addition, at least some steps in FIG. 1 may include a plurality of steps or a plurality of stages, and these steps or stages are not necessarily performed at a same time instant, but may be performed at different time instants. The steps or stages are not necessarily performed in sequence, but may be performed by turn or alternately with other steps or at least part of steps or stages in other steps.

[0075] FIG. 2 provides a point cloud data set rectification and registration apparatus 200. The apparatus 200 includes:
