Abstract
Description
[0001] Electronics housing with cover frame
[0002] The invention relates to an electronics housing with a cover frame.
[0003] Such electronics housings comprise a first housing part and a second housing part, wherein the housing parts can be joined together along a joining edge in a form-fitting and separable manner, and wherein the housing parts have side walls which adjoin one another at the edges and form a housing shell, wherein the second housing part has at least one opening for a connecting element for fixing the second housing part to the first housing part.
[0004] The electronics housings known from the prior art are used, for example, for sensor applications, Internet of Things (IoT) applications, Industrial Internet of Things (IoT) applications, for industrial controls, etc. Printed circuit boards (PCBs), such as custom PCBs for embedded systems or single-board computers, are often inserted into the electronics housing, and connection elements connected to the printed circuit board are led out of the electronics housing through openings. Depending on the application, the electronics housings are often designed according to an IP (Ingress Protection) protection class in order to protect the printed circuit board, or the electronics arranged in the electronics housing, from external influences such as dust or moisture. For example, the document US 2019 / 0289728 A1 shows an electronics housing known from the prior art.
[0005] One of the housing parts typically has one or more openings into which connecting elements, such as screws, can be inserted to secure the housing parts together. To cover these openings, cover elements, such as panels, so-called designer panels, are often used in the prior art. Such cover elements are often designed individually as cover corners, cover strips, or cover frames.
[0006] However, the electronics housings known from the prior art have the disadvantage that these cover elements often have to be attached to the electronics housings in a complicated manner. Furthermore, the cover elements known from the prior art often serve only to cover the openings. The object of the present invention is to provide an electronics housing that has an easily arranged and modular cover frame that can perform other functions in addition to covering openings.
[0007] This object is achieved by an article having the features of claim 1.
[0008] Accordingly, the electronics housing has a first housing part and a second housing part, wherein the housing parts can be joined together along a joining edge in a form-fitting and separable manner, and wherein the housing parts have side walls that adjoin one another at the edges and form a housing shell, wherein the second housing part has at least one opening for a connecting element for fixing the second housing part to the first housing part; and a cover frame that can be arranged on the second housing part and is designed to cover the at least one opening, and wherein the cover frame has at least one coupling element, and the second housing part has at least one corresponding coupling element, wherein the coupling elements are designed to be detachably connectable to one another.
[0009] The first and second housing parts can be designed shell-like and substantially complementary to each other, so as to surround a printed circuit board or an electronic component when assembled. A "joining edge" can be understood here as an edge at which the first housing part and the second housing part meet during assembly. The "joining edge" can also be understood as a "joining surface."
[0010] The first housing part and the second housing part have side walls that adjoin one another at the edges and form a housing shell. The housing parts can be shell-like, and the side walls can be arranged transversely, in particular at a right angle, on a respective base surface of the housing parts and enclose a volume. The side surfaces can extend from the base surface to a free end of the housing parts.
[0011] In some examples, the base surface can be rectangular. Alternatively, the base surface can also be polygonal, or, particularly in corner areas, partially round. The housing walls can also be arranged at an angle of more or less than 90° to the base surface. The joining edge can run along a free end of the side walls, with the free end also forming an edge to delimit an interior space of the housing parts.
[0012] The second housing part has at least one opening for a connecting element for fixing the second housing part to the first housing part.
[0013] The connecting element can, for example, be a screw that can be inserted into the opening and screwed into a screw dome in the first housing part in order to fix the housing parts together.
[0014] The electronics housing further comprises a cover frame which can be arranged on the second housing part and is designed to cover the at least one opening, and wherein the cover frame has at least one coupling element, and the second housing part has at least one corresponding coupling element, wherein the coupling elements are designed to be detachably connectable to one another.
[0015] The cover frame can have several, in particular four, strip-like elements that are connected to one another and enclose or surround an opening. The outer perimeter of the cover frame can correspond to a perimeter of the housing parts. The circumferential frame-shaped cover runs on an outer side of the second housing part, or on a side facing away from an inner side of the housing, and in the assembled position conceals the at least one opening for the connecting element, in particular a plurality of openings in the second housing part.
[0016] The coupling element on the cover frame can be designed as a locking element for locking with the corresponding coupling element on the second housing part. For example, the cover frame can be mounted on the second housing part without tools by placing it on and then pressing it on.
[0017] The described design enables simple and quick installation of the cover frame on the housing. Different cover frames with built-in functions allow different features to be easily adapted to a housing, thus offering various possible solutions for specific applications. In one embodiment, the second housing part has at least two openings, particularly in corner regions of the second housing part, each for a connecting element for securing the second housing part to the first housing part. The cover frame is designed to cover the openings.
[0018] In one example, the first housing part and the second housing part each have at least one opening which is designed as an elongated hole, in particular four openings designed as elongated holes in corner regions of the housing parts, and wherein in each of the elongated holes of the first housing part a screw dome is arranged for introducing a connecting element, such as a screw for connecting the first and second housing parts.
[0019] The term "slot" can be understood as a cylindrical or oval opening that extends at least partially through the material of the housing parts. The opening can also be understood as an opening that is asymmetrical with respect to at least one axis of extension. When the first housing part and the second housing part are joined together, the slots in the housing parts can be configured to correspond to one another, i.e., to be congruent, so that the slots in the housing parts form a common slot in the joined state.
[0020] The housing parts can be screwed together by means of screw domes arranged in the elongated holes of the first housing part in order to firmly connect the housing parts.
[0021] In some examples, however, locking elements can also be arranged in the elongated holes as an alternative or in addition to the screw bosses to connect the two housing halves to each other via a locking connection. In some examples, the electronics housing can also be attached to a substrate using additional fastening means that extend at least partially through the elongated holes.
[0022] In one embodiment, the cover frame has at least one hinge element, in particular a film hinge, wherein the cover frame is connected to the second housing part via the hinge element. The cover frame can be held captively to the second housing part via a hinge element. This ensures that the cover frame remains connected to the remaining components of the housing part, particularly during maintenance or installation work.
[0023] In one embodiment, a recess is formed on a surface of the cover frame for receiving a label carrier.
[0024] A label carrier can be understood here, for example, as a label that can be easily and appropriately arranged and aligned in the recess.
[0025] In one embodiment, the recess is inclined, in particular inclined by 45°, in the surface of the cover frame.
[0026] For this purpose, a lower edge of the cover frame can also be designed to be angled to facilitate easier reading of the label on electronics enclosures located at a certain height above the user. In particular, labels tilted at a 45° are easy to read both vertically and horizontally.
[0027] In one embodiment, the cover frame is designed to cover at least partially an edge of the second housing part, in particular to protrude beyond the edge, and has at least one fastening element for fastening in an opening of a control cabinet.
[0028] In this embodiment, the cover frame serves an installation function. By covering the edge of the second housing part, the cover frame protrudes beyond a housing contour of the second housing part and can thus be arranged in an opening in a door or in a side panel of the control cabinet. The cover frame also has a fastening element, such as a clamp or a screw element, to securely position the cover frame in the opening of the control cabinet.
[0029] In one embodiment, the cover frame has at least one interaction element. An interaction element can be understood here as an operating, display, or functional element that allows the user to interact with the electronics arranged in the electronics housing.
[0030] This design allows the cover frame to provide space for the integration of membrane keyboards, buttons, illuminated displays, antennas, etc.
[0031] In one embodiment, the cover frame has at least one holding element for receiving and holding accessories of the electronics housing on the cover frame.
[0032] For example, the holding element can be formed as a single piece or integrally with the cover frame and can be designed as an eyelet, holding clip, etc. in order to hold accessories such as tools, pens or other equipment.
[0033] In one embodiment, the cover frame has a strain relief element for a conductor that can be connected to the electronics housing.
[0034] The conductor can be, for example, an electrical conductor or a cable, or a pneumatic cable. The strain relief element can be designed, for example, as a cable bushing or as a holding element to which the conductor can be attached.
[0035] In one embodiment, the electronics housing has a roof element arranged on at least one side of the cover frame, wherein the roof element protrudes from a surface of the cover frame, in particular protrudes at a right angle from the surface. The roof element can be plate-like or flat, or can have a bend, in particular an outward bend or curvature.
[0036] A cover frame with such a roof element, or with a roof contour as a sun glare protection, enables better readability of displays and indicators arranged in the electronics housing in sunlight and protects these displays and indicators from external influences, such as rain. In one embodiment, the cover frame has at least one photovoltaic (PV) element.
[0037] Such a design allows a solar panel to be integrated into the cover frame to supply power to electronics located in the electronics housing. The PV element can be arranged, for example, on the roof element described above.
[0038] In one embodiment, the cover frame has at least two partial areas, wherein the at least two partial areas are of different colors or are transparent, in particular milky-transparent.
[0039] For example, a surrounding housing frame can be designed in different colors and shapes, thus offering various coding options. Multi-color coding allows for differently colored frames to be arranged around one or more cutouts in the material of the electronics housing where interfaces are located. For example, such frames can be used to mark inputs and outputs.
[0040] The cover frame can also be milky-transparent, at least in some areas, in order to be able to achieve lighting effects with lighting elements, such as LEDs, through the milky-transparent cover frame.
[0041] In one embodiment, the cover frame has a cover element, in particular a transparent or colored cover element, which is arranged on the cover frame in a foldable and / or latchable manner and is adapted to cover an opening formed by the cover frame.
[0042] For example, the cover element can be designed as a hinged lid. In this case, the cover frame can have fastening options for installing the cover element, which covers the front of the electronics housing when closed. The cover element can be transparent as a clear protective window or colored, and can be opened and closed with a latch. Alternatively, the cover element can also be designed as a snap-in cover, and the cover frame can provide fastening options around the snap-in cover. The snap-in cover can cover the front of the housing and be transparent as a clear protective window, and can mechanically protect underlying components, such as displays, that are installed in the electronics housing using a fixed latch.
[0043] In one embodiment, the cover frame is made of an elastic material, at least in some areas. Here, the cover frame can serve as impact protection and / or have an anti-slip function.
[0044] In one embodiment, the cover frame has at least one transition element for stackably arranging a further electronics housing on the cover frame.
[0045] For example, the transition element can also be referred to as an intermediate fastening element and can be designed to receive the underside of another electronics housing, or the underside of another first housing part, or to engage at least partially with the underside or with openings on the underside. For example, the transition element can be designed in a pin-like manner.
[0046] In one embodiment, the cover frame is designed as a 3D-printed part.
[0047] By designing it as a 3D-printed part, customer-specific specifications can be easily implemented and the cover frame can be freely constructed.
