Abstract

Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to devices and methods of communication. Upon determination that a condition for reporting data collected for model training for a model of mobility management is fulfilled, a terminal device reports the data to a network device. The network device performs the model training based on the data received from the terminal device. In this way, a collected data set for model training may be reported to a network under a certain condition, and thus signaling overhead for data reporting may be reduced and power consumption of a terminal device may be reduced. Further, model training at the network may be facilitated.

[0034] Principles and implementations of the present disclosure will be described in detail below with reference to the figures.

[0035] EXAMPLE OF COMMUNICATION NETWORK

[0036] FIG. 1 illustrates a schematic diagram of an example communication network 100 in which some embodiments of the present disclosure can be implemented. As shown in FIG. 1, the communication network 100 may include a terminal device 110 and a network device 120. In some embodiments, the network device 120 may provide one or more serving cells (not shown) to serve the terminal device 110.

[0040] FIG. 2 illustrates a schematic diagram 200 of an AI common framework in which some embodiments of the present disclosure can be implemented. As shown in FIG. 2, training data, monitoring data and inference data may be obtained through an entity of data collection 210.

[0041] With reference to FIG. 2, the training data may be used for model training by an entity of model training 220. An AI model may be trained / updated through the model training. The trained / updated AI model may be stored by an entity of model storage 230.

[0042] With reference to FIG. 2, the monitoring data may be used for model management by an entity of model management 240. The entity of model management 240 may send performance feedback / retraining request to the entity of model training 220 for model retraining. The entity of model management 240 may send model transfer / delivery request to the entity of model storage 230, and the entity of model storage 230 may transfer  or delivery the stored AI model to an entity of model inference 250.

[0043] As shown in FIG. 2, the inference data may be used for model inference by the entity of model inference 250. With the inference data as an input of the AI model, an output data set may be obtained by the model inference. The entity of model inference 250 may provide a monitoring output to the entity of model management 240 and receive an indication of model selection / activation / deactivation / switching / fallback from the entity of model management 240.

[0044] So far, life cycle management (LCM) of an AI model is described with reference to FIG. 2. It is to be understood that although the entities 210 to 250 are shown or described as separate entities in FIG. 2, these entities 210-250 may be implemented in one or more physical entities.

[0045] Currently, one popular solution is that an AI model is deployed at a network, and the network need to collect some AI data set from a terminal device for model training of the AI model. Data collection from a terminal device may cause signaling overhead and / or power consumption, and thus it is not desired to let the terminal device limitlessly report collected data.

[0046] In view of this, embodiments of the present disclosure provide a solution of data collection for model training of an AI model so as to enhance performance of an air-interface with an AI common framework. For illustration, the solution will be detailed below with reference to FIGs. 3 to 4B.

[0047] EXAMPLE IMPLEMENTATION OF DATA COLLECTION FOR MODEL TRAINING

[0048] FIG. 3 illustrates a signaling chart illustrating an example process 300 of communication for data collection for model training in accordance with embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the process 300 will be described with reference to FIG. 1. The process 300 may involve the terminal device 110 and the network device 120 as illustrated in FIG. 1. It is to be understood that the steps and the order of the steps in FIG. 3 are merely for illustration, and not for limitation. For example, the order of the steps may be changed. Some of the steps may be omitted or any other suitable additional steps may be added. It is assumed that model training of an AI model is performed at the network device 120. The terminal device 110 is served by the network device 120.

[0049] As shown in FIG. 3, the terminal device 110 may determine 310 whether a  condition for reporting data collected for model training is fulfilled. In other words, the terminal device 110 may determine whether an entering condition of an event for triggering the reporting of the data is fulfilled.

[0050] With reference to FIG. 3, in some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may transmit 311, to the network device 120, assistance information associated with the reporting of the AI data. In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may transmit the assistance information via a UEAssistanceInformation message. It is to be understood that any other suitable messages may also be feasible.

[0051] In some embodiments, the assistance information may indicate a preference on a type of the AI model, that is, a preference on a use case for which the AI model is used. In some embodiments, the use case may comprise at least one of the following: CSI compression, CSI prediction, beam temporal prediction, beam spatial prediction, positioning, or mobility management. It is to be understood that any other suitable use cases may also be feasible.

[0052] In some embodiments, the assistance information may indicate a preference on a type of the data collected for the model training, that is, a preference on collected AI data that is reported for an AI model used for a use case. For example, if the terminal device 110 has already stored / logged multiple different time stamp L1-RSRP and beam IDs, the terminal device 110 may request the network device 120 to configure data collection for reporting these stored / logged AI data set.

[0053] With the assistance information, a flexible way may be provided to let a terminal device request a network device to configure a data collection procedure and report stored or collected or logged AI data for model training at the network device.

[0054] For illustration, an example procedure of assistance information is described as below.

[0055] The purpose of this procedure is for the UE to inform the network of:

[0056] - its preference on reporting the stored / collected AI data set for model training;

[0057] - its preference on using AI model for XXX use case.

[0058] Initiation

[0059] A UE capable of providing its preference on reporting the stored / collected AI  data set, or using AI model for XXX use case, may initiate the procedure if it was configured to do so, upon the AI data set is derived / available, or upon AI method is expected.

[0060] Upon initiating the procedure, the UE shall:

[0061] 1> if configured to provide its preference on reporting the stored / collected AI data set, or using AI model for XXX use case:

[0062] 2> if the UE did not tranmit a UEAssistanceInformation message with dataCollectionPerference since it was configured; or

[0063] 2> if the current preference on data collection, or AI model for XXX use case is different from the one indicated in the last transmission of the UEAssistanceInformation message including dataCollectionPerference:

[0064] 3> initiate transmission of the UEAssistanceInformation message to provide its preference on reporting AI data, or AI model.

[0065] In this example, “XXX use case” means a use case of CSI compression, CSI prediction, beam temporal prediction, beam spatial prediction, positioning, mobility management, or any other use cases existing or to be developed in future.

[0066] Continuing to refer to FIG. 3, in some embodiments, the network device 120 may transmit 312, to the terminal device 110, a configuration for the reporting of the data. In some embodiments, the network device 120 may transmit the configuration via a radio resource control (RRC) reconfiguration message. It is to be understood that any other suitable messages are also feasible.

[0067] In some embodiments, the network device 120 may generate the configuration based on the assistance information transmitted by the terminal device 110. Alternatively, the network device 120 may generate the configuration without the assistance information.

[0068] In some embodiments, the configuration may be implemented by a measurement configuration (e.g., reportConfig) . It is to be understood that any other suitable forms may also be feasible.

[0069] In some embodiments, the configuration may comprise an indication of the condition for reporting the data. That is, the condition for reporting the data may be configured. Alternatively, the condition for reporting the data may be predetermined without network configuration.

[0070] In some embodiments, the configuration may comprise an indication of the reporting of the data, e.g., an information element (IE) includeAIData. The IE includeAIData may indicate that the measurement configuration is for AI data collection and request the terminal device 110 to report the collected AI data to the network device 120 based on the reportConfig, e.g., based on event-triggered or periodicity.

[0071] In some embodiments, the configuration may comprise an indication of collection of the data, e.g., an IE obtainAIData. For example, the IE obtainAIData may be introduced into an IE otherConfig within an RRC reconfiguration message.

[0072] In some embodiments, the data may comprise at least one of the following: target CSI for an input of the model (e.g., a precoding matrix or a channel matrix for AI input at UE part of two-side model) ; CSI feedback (e.g., a precoding matrix or a channel matrix for AI input at UE part of two-side model) ; gradients for the CSI feedback; target CSI in an observation and prediction window for the input or an output of the model (e.g., a precoding matrix, a precoding matrix indicator (PMI) , a rank indication (RI) or a channel quality indicator (CQI) ) ; target CSI dwell time for the input or output of the model; RSRP for the input or output of the model (e.g., layer 1 (L1) -RSRP or layer 3 (L3) -RSRP) ; a beam index for the input or output of the model; beam dwell time for the input or output of the model; measurement timing information for the input of the model; measurement power information for the input of the model; measurement phase information for the input of the model; location coordinate information for the input of the model; intermediate positioning measurement (e.g., timing information, or a line of sight (LOS)  / non-line of sight (NLOS) indicator) for the output of the model; a cell identity for the input and output of the model; dwell time for the output of the model; or historical handover information for the input of the model. It is to be understood that the data may comprise any other radio resource management (RRM) related information types. In some embodiments, the IE includeAIData may indicate one or more of the above types of the data. In some embodiments, the IE obtainAIData may indicate one or more of the above types of the data.

[0073] With reference to FIG. 3, in some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may store and apply 313 the configuration for the reporting of the data. In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may perform 314 data collection based on the configuration. In some embodiments, if the IE obtainAIData is configured or received, the terminal device 110 may collect the data based on the configuration. For example, if the IE obtainAIData is configured or received, the terminal device 110 may obtain or derive corresponding AI data,  or make the corresponding AI data available, or perform measurements on the corresponding AI data. Then the terminal device 110 may include the corresponding AI data into a report for AI data collection (if exist, e.g., measuremenReport) .

[0074] Continuing to refer to FIG. 3, the terminal device 110 may determine 315 that the condition for reporting the AI data is fulfilled. That is, an entering condition of an event for triggering the reporting of the data is fulfilled.

[0075] In some embodiments, the condition may comprise that no uplink unicast data is transmitted for a period of time (denoted as Event AI-1 herein) . In some embodiments, the period of time may be predetermined or configured. For example, the period of time may be 10s. That is, if there is no uplink unicast data coming within 10s, the terminal device 110 may consider the condition for reporting the data is fulfilled. It is to be understood that any other suitable values may also be feasible. In this way, the procedure of data collection for model training may not impact a unicast uplink service.

[0076] In some embodiments, the condition may comprise that stored or logged volume of the data is above a volume threshold (denoted as Event AI-2 herein) . In some embodiments, the volume threshold may mean maximum volume that the terminal device 110 can store or log AI data in a variable / memory of the terminal device 110. Of course, the volume threshold may be determined in any other suitable ways. In some embodiments, the volume threshold may be predetermined or configured. In this way, there may be a UE variable to store / log the collected data and report them simultaneously, and a terminal device may only need to report when the stored / logged data is big. As such, signaling overhead may be saved. In some embodiments, once the terminal device 110 reports some of the stored / logged AI data, the terminal device may remove the reported part from its variable / memory.

[0077] In some embodiments, the condition may comprise that a bandwidth part (BWP) configured for the reporting of the data is activated (denoted as Event AI-3 herein) . In some embodiments, the BWP may be a dedicated BWP for the reporting of the data. The dedicated BWP may mean that the network device 120 may configure a specific BWP, such as more resources for uplink BWP and less resources for downlink BWP, that is only used for the terminal device 110 to report the data instead of performing other tasks (e.g., unicast service) . It is friendly for a terminal device who is mainly to perform data collection. For example, the network device 120 may not configure a big size of downlink BWP.

[0078] In some embodiments, the condition may comprise that a velocity of the terminal device 110 is in a velocity interval or range (denoted as Event AI-4 herein) . In some embodiments, the condition may comprise that the velocity of the terminal device 110 is below a first velocity threshold. In some embodiments, the condition may comprise that the velocity of the terminal device 110 is above a second velocity threshold. In some embodiments, the condition may comprise that the velocity of the terminal device 110 is above the first velocity threshold and below the second velocity threshold. For example, the terminal device 110 may report AI data with informing the network device 120 of a corresponding level of velocity, e.g., implicitly by a measurement identity (denoted as measID herein) corresponding to the level of velocity. In some embodiments, the first velocity threshold may be the same as the second velocity threshold. That is, only one level of velocity may be set. In this way, it may be more precise to provide training data based on velocity, especially for a use case of prediction, e.g., beam management, channel status information (CSI) prediction, etc..

[0079] In some embodiments, the condition may comprise that a distance between the terminal device 110 and a reference location is in a distance interval or range (denoted as Event AI-5 herein) . In some embodiments, the reference location may be a center of a cell or any other suitable locations. In some embodiments, the condition may comprise that the distance is below a first distance threshold. In some embodiments, the condition may comprise that the distance is above a second distance threshold. In some embodiments, the condition may comprise that the distance is above the first distance threshold and below the second distance threshold. For example, the terminal device 110 may report AI data with informing the network device 120 of a corresponding location range where the data is reported, e.g., implicitly by a measurement identity (denoted as measID herein) corresponding to the location range. In some embodiments, the first distance threshold may be the same as the second distance threshold. That is, only one location range may be set. In this way, training data may be collected in a specific area.

[0080] In some embodiments, the condition may comprise that signal strength of a serving cell is above a first strength threshold (denoted as Event AI-6 herein) . In some embodiments, the signal strength may be represented by reference signal received power (RSRP) or reference signal received quality (RSRQ) or any other suitable metrics. In this way, the terminal device 110 may report the data when the terminal device 110 staying in a good channel condition.

[0081] In some embodiments, the condition may comprise that signal strength of the serving cell is below a second strength threshold. In some embodiments, the signal strength may be represented by RSRP or RSRQ or any other suitable metrics. In this way, the terminal device 110 may report the data when the terminal device 110 staying in a bad channel condition. As such, training data may be differentiated for cell signal strength.

[0082] In some embodiments, the condition may comprise that no internal overheating is detected by the terminal device 110 (denoted as Event AI-7 herein) . That is, the terminal device 110 may report the data only when no internal overheating is detected. In this way, since the procedure of data collection takes up a log of operating power, the terminal device 110 may stop the data collection when the terminal device 110 is getting heater.

[0083] In some embodiments, the condition may comprise that a battery level of the terminal device 110 is above a battery level threshold (denoted as Event AI-8 herein) . That is, the terminal device 110 may report the data if the terminal device 110 has enough battery. In this way, since the procedure of data collection is power consuming, the terminal device 110 may stop the data collection upon low battery.

[0084] In some embodiments, the condition may comprise that LCM for the model is triggered. In some embodiments, the LCM for the model may be triggered based on an indication from the network device 120. In some embodiments, the LCM for the model may be triggered based on a decision of the terminal device 110.

[0085] In some embodiments for the LCM for the model is triggered, the condition may comprise that the LCM for fine-tuning or retraining of the model is triggered, e.g., by either network indication or UE decision (denoted as Event AI-9 herein) . That is, the terminal device 110 may report the data for upgrading the AI model at the network. Usually the fine-tuning or retraining procedure means the AI model needs to be updated, and thus the terminal device 110 may need to provide more training data.

[0086] In some embodiments for the LCM for the model is triggered, the condition may comprise that performance degradation of the model is determined (denoted as Event AI-10 herein) . In some embodiments where model monitoring is performed at the terminal device 110, when a performance metric does not fulfill a criterion, the terminal device 110 may determine that performance of the model degrades. In some embodiments where model monitoring is performed at the network device 120, the network device 120 may indicate the performance degradation of the model to the terminal device 110, and the  terminal device 110 may determine that performance of the model degrades based on the network indication. Accordingly, the terminal device 110 may report the data for upgrading the AI model at the network. Monitoring performance degradation means the AI model is not suitable anymore, and thus the terminal device 110 may need to report more training data.

[0087] In some embodiments for the LCM for the model is triggered, the condition may comprise that the LCM for model switch is triggered (denoted as Event AI-11 herein) . That is, the terminal device 110 may report the data for upgrading either old model or new model at the network. Usually model switch means a previous model is not suitable anymore, and thus the terminal device 110 may need to report more training data.

[0088] In some embodiments for the LCM for the model is triggered, the condition may comprise that the LCM for deactivation of the model (e.g., fallback to non-AI) is triggered (denoted as Event AI-12 herein) . That is, the terminal device 110 may report the data possibly for upgrading the AI model at the network. In some cases, stopping using an AI model means that the AI model is not suitable anymore. Thus, the terminal device 110 may need to report more training data.

[0089] In some embodiments, the condition may comprise that the serving cell is in a configured cell list (denoted as Event AI-13 herein) . For example, the configured cell list may comprise a list of physical cell identities (PCIs)  / cell identities (IDs) . If PCI / cell ID of the serving cell belongs to the list of PCIs / cell IDs, the reporting of the data may be triggered. In another example, the configured cell list may comprise a list of PCIs / cell IDs and corresponding public land mobile network (PLMN) identities. If PCI / cell ID and PLMN identity of the serving cell belongs to the list of PCIs / cell IDs and PLMN identities, the reporting of the data may be triggered. In some embodiments, the network may provide a cell list. When the terminal device 110 camps on these cells in the cell list, the terminal device 110 may start to report the data. In this way, it is helpful to let the network collect area / site specific data for training an area / site-specific AI model.

[0090] In some embodiments, the condition may comprise that quality of the data is above a quality threshold (denoted as Event AI-14 herein) . The quality may mean whether an evaluation on data measurement is valid or reliable. In other words, the condition may comprise that the data is valid or reliable. The network device 120 may configure the quality threshold to verify the data. In this way, once the terminal device 110 collects the  data of which the quality is not good, the terminal device 110 may not report these data to the network device 120.

[0091] In some embodiments, the condition may comprise that a predetermined mode of the terminal device 110 (also called as UE mode herein) is applied (denoted as Event AI-15 herein) . In some embodiments, the predetermined mode may comprise at least one of the following:

[0092] - deployment scenarios (e.g., UMa, UMi, InH) , outdoor or indoor, outdoor / indoor UE distributions for UMa / UMi (e.g., 10: 0, 8: 2, 5: 5) , carrier frequencies (e.g., 2GHz, 3.5GHz) , antenna spacing, antenna virtualization (TxRU mapping) , ISDs, UE speeds;

[0093] - UE parameters, e.g., number of UE receiving (Rx) beams, gNB settings, e.g., downlink transmitting (Tx) beam codebook, Set B of beam, T1 for measurement  / T2 for prediction for beam management;

[0094] - different drops, clutter parameters, network synchronization error, UE / gNB Rx and Tx timing error, InF scenarios.

[0095] Among this condition, UMa means uplink macro cell, Umi means uplink micro cell, InH means indoor hotspot, ISD means inter site distance, drops means derived samples based on random distribution, clutter means indoor object information, InF means infoor factory. In this way, the terminal device 110 may report AI data with informing the network device 120 of different UE modes. For each UE mode which may impact model performance, the terminal device 110 may report the mode specific data to the network device 120 for better model training.

[0096] It is to be understood that any combination of the above conditions for reporting the data may also be feasible.

[0097] For illustration, an example procedure of measurement report triggering may be described as below.

[0098] If AS security has been activated successfully, the UE shall:

[0099] 1> for each measId included in the measIdList within VarMeasConfig:

[0109] 2> upon expiry of the periodical reporting timer for this measId:

[0110] 3> initiate the measurement reporting procedure,

[0111] Event AI-1 (No UL unicast data is transmitted for a duration)

[0112] Event AI-2 (The volume of stored AI data is greater than a threshold)

[0113] Event AI-3 (Dedicated BWP for AI data report)

[0114] Event AI-4 (Different velocity level)

[0121] Event AI-11 (Model switch is triggered)

[0122] Event AI-12 (Model deactivation is triggered or fallback to non-AI)

[0123] Event AI-13 (area specific)

[0124] Event AI-14 (data collection quality is greater than a threshold)

[0125] Event AI-15 (UE specific mode)

[0126] The UE shall:

[0127] 1> consider the entering condition for this event to be satisfied when the related conditions, as specified above, is fulfilled;

[0128] 1> for this measurement, consider the NR serving cell corresponding to the associated measObjectNR associated with this event.

[0129] Continuing to refer to FIG. 3, the terminal device 110 may report 320 the data to the network device 120. In some embodiments, when one or more of the above events or conditions are fulfilled, the terminal device 110 may initiate a measurement report to provide collected AI data set (if available) to the network device 120, e.g., by either an L3 (or L1) RRM report or a minimum drive test (MDT) procedure. In some embodiments, when the one or more of the above events or conditions are fulfilled for a period of time (e.g., time to trigger (TTT) ) , the terminal device 110 may initiate the measurement report.

[0130] In some embodiments, if the IE includeAIData is received, the terminal device 110 may report the data indicated by the IE includeAIData based on the configuration. For example, when the network device 120 provide, to the terminal device 110, a measurement configuration including the IE includeAIData (e.g., in reportConfig) , the terminal device 110 may need to report collected data based on an event or periodicity.

[0131] In some embodiments, the configuration may comprise a time interval (e.g., IE reportInterval) and number of times (e.g., IE reportAmount) for the reporting of the data. In some embodiments, once the event for the reporting of the data is triggered, the terminal device 110 may periodically report the AI data based on the time interval (indicated by the IE reportInterval) for the number of times (indicated by the IE reportAmount) .

[0132] For illustration, an example procedure of measurement reporting may be described as below.

[0133] The purpose of this procedure is to transfer measurement results from the UE to the network. The UE shall initiate this procedure only after successful AS security activation.

[0134] For the measId for which the measurement reporting procedure was triggered, the UE shall set the measResults within the MeasurementReport message as follows:

[0135] 1> set the measId to the measurement identity that triggered the measurement reporting;

[0136] 1> if the includeAIData is configured in the corresponding reportConfig for this measId and detailed AI data information that has not been reported is available, set the content of AI data set based on the collected data type as follows:

[0137] 2> if the collected date type is indicated for Target CSI, include the Target CSI, e.g., precoding matrix, channel matrix, if available;

[0138] 2> if the collected date type is indicated for CSI feedback, include the CSI feedback, e.g., the AI encoded PMI bits, if available;

[0139] 2> if the collected data type is indicated for Gradients for CSI feedback, include the Gradients for CSI feedback, if available;

[0140] 2> if the collected data type is indicated for Target CSI in oberservation and prediction window, include Target CSI in oberservation and prediction window, if available;

[0141] 2> if the collected data type is indicated for L1-RSRP and / or Beam-ID, include L1-RSRP and / or Beam-ID, if available;

[0142] 2> if the collected data type is indicated for Measurement timing / power / phase info, include Measurement timing / power / phase info, if available;

[0143] 2> if the collected data type is indicated for Locastion coordinate, include Locastion coordinate, if available;

[0144] 2> if the collected data type is indicated for Intermediate positioning measurement, include Intermediate positioning measurement, e.g., timing info, LOS / NLOS indicator, if available;

[0145] 2> if the collected data type is indicated for RRM related infor, include RRM related infor, e.g., L3-RSRP, Cell-ID, Dwell time, historical handover, if available.

[0146] 1> increment the numberOfReportsSent as defined within the VarMeasReportList for this measId by 1;

[0147] 1> stop the periodical reporting timer, if running;

[0148] 1> if the numberOfReportsSent as defined within the VarMeasReportList for this measId is less than the reportAmount as defined within the corresponding reportConfig for this measId:

[0149] 2> start the periodical reporting timer with the value of reportInterval as defined within the corresponding reportConfig for this measId;

[0150] 1> submit the MeasurementReport message to lower layers for transmission, upon which the procedure ends.

[0151] In some embodiments, if collection of the data is initiated, the terminal device 110 may increment a value of a counter. If the value of the counter is above a threshold value, the terminal device 110 may start a timer (also referred to as a prohibit timer herein) . In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may not perform the reporting of the data during running of the timer. In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may stop the collection of the data during the running of the timer.

[0152] In some embodiments, if the timer is started, the terminal device 110 may reset the value of the counter to a predetermined value (e.g., 0) . In some embodiments, if the value of the counter is unchanged for a period of time, the terminal device 110 may reset the value of the counter to the predetermined value. In some embodiments, the period of time may be a fixed or configured duration.

[0153] In this way, a terminal device may avoid frequently reporting an AI data set to a network device.

[0154] FIG. 4A illustrates a diagram 400A illustrating an example reporting of collected data in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. In this example, reportNumber_AI denotes a value of a counter, reportAmount_AI denotes a threshold value for the value of the counter, and reportInterval denotes a time interval between reports of collected data. reportNumber_AI is set to 0 initially and reportAmount_AIDataReport is set to 4. As shown in FIG. 4A, at a timing A, Event 1 for reporting the collected data is fulfilled. reportNumber_AI is incremented to 1. At a timing B, the collected data is reported periodically based a time interval reportInterval. reportNumber_AI is  incremented to 2. At a timing C, Event 2 for reporting the collected data is fulfilled. reportNumber_AI is incremented to 3. At a timing D, the collected data is reported periodically based the time interval reportInterval. reportNumber_AI is incremented to 4. That is, a value of reportNumber_AI is equal to reportAmount_AIDataReport. Accordingly, a prohibit timer is stated, and no data is reported during running of the prohibit timer.

[0155] For illustration, an example procedure of controlling a data collection report is described as below.

[0156] Upon the transmission of AI data collection, e.g., measurementReport for AI data, the UE shall:

[0157] 1> increment the reportNumber_AI by 1;

[0158] 1> if the reportNumber_AI is equal to reprotAmount_AIDataReport:

[0159] 2> start the prohibitTimer_AIDataReport;

[0160] 2> reset reportNumber_AI to 0;

[0161] 1> if the prohibitTimer_AIDataReport is running:

[0162] 2> not transmit the report for AI data collection, e.g., measurementReport for AI data regardless the configuration (e.g., reportConfig) to indicate that one transmission is initiated;

[0163] 2> may stop preforming the related AI measurement for data collection; 1> if there is no increment for the value of reportNumber_AI within a duration (e.g., a configured timer or fixed value) :

[0164] 2> reset reportNumber_AI to 0.

[0165] In this example, IE reportNumber_AI denotes a counter value for data collection reports, IE reprotAmount_AIDataReport denotes the maximum number of data collection reports for which the UE is allowed, and IE prohibitTimer_AIDataReport denotes a prohibit timer for AI data report.

[0166] In some embodiments, if the data is reported, the terminal device 110 may update a reported data size based on a size of the data. In some embodiments, if the reported data size is above a size threshold, the terminal device 110 may stop the reporting of the data. In some embodiments, if the reported data size is above the size threshold, the terminal  device 110 may stop collection of the data. In some embodiments, if the reported data size is above the size threshold, the terminal device 110 may reset the reported data size to a predetermined size.

[0167] In some embodiments, if the reported data size is above the size threshold, the terminal device 110 may start a timer. In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may perform no reporting of the data during running of the timer. In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may stop the collection of the data during the running of the timer. In some embodiments, if the reported data size is above the size threshold, the terminal device 110 may remove a configuration for a measurement of the data. In some embodiments, if the reported data size is above the size threshold, the terminal device 110 may indicate completion of the reporting of the data to the network device 120, e.g., by uplink control information (UCI) or a medium access control control element (MAC CE) or an RRC message.

[0168] In this way, a terminal device may avoid limitlessly reporting an AI data set to a network device.

[0169] For illustration, an example procedure of controlling a data collection report is described as below.

[0170] Upon the transmission of AI data collection, e.g., measurementReport for AI data, the UE shall:

[0171] 1> accumulate the variable reportedTotalSize by setting reportedTotalSize = reportedTotalSize + the reported AI data size;

[0172] 1> if the reportNumber_AI is greater than reprotAmount_AIDataReport:

[0173] 2> stop the procedure of transmission on AI data collection;

[0174] 2> may stop preforming the related AI measurement for data collection;

[0175] 2> reset reportedTotalSize to 0;

[0176] 2> remove the AI data collection related measurement configuration.

[0177] For illustration, another example procedure of controlling a data collection report is described as below.

[0178] Upon the transmission of AI data collection, e.g., measurementReport for AI data, the UE shall:

[0179] 1> accumulate the variable reportedTotalSize by setting reportedTotalSize =reportedTotalSize + the reported AI data size;

[0180] 1> if the reportNumber_AI is greater than reprotAmount_AIDataReport:

[0181] 2> start the prohibitTimer_AIDataReport;

[0182] 2> reset reportedTotalSize to 0;

[0183] 1> if the prohibitTimer_AIDataReport is running:

[0184] 2> not transmit the report for AI data collection, e.g., measurementReport for AI data regardless the configuration (e.g., reportConfig) to indicate that one transmission is initiated;

[0185] 2> may stop preforming the related AI measurement for data collection.

[0186] In these examples, IE threshold_AIDataSize denotes the maximum size for AI data collection that the UE is allowed to report to the network. IE reportedTotalSize denotes a UE variable, and the value of reportedTotalSize should be accumulated by the data size every time the UE report them.

[0187] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may receive, from the network device 120, a configuration indicating a time window for the reporting of the data, and start the time window based on the configuration. In some embodiments, the configuration may comprise at least one of a periodicity, a time offset or a length of the time window. In some embodiments, the periodicity may indicate a cycle of how often the time window starts, and the unit of the periodicity may be frame, subframe, slot or symbol. The time offset may refer to an offset to a start point of the time window during every cycle, and the unit of the time offset may be frame, subframe, slot or symbol. The length may refer to a length or timer that the time window lasts.

[0188] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may determine a start of the time window based on the periodicity and the time offset, and determine the time window based on the start and the length of the time window. For example, the terminal device 110 may determine the start of the time window based on equation (1) below. Tstart mod P = Toffset                   (1)

[0189] where Tstart denotes the start of the time window, P denotes the periodicity of the time window, and Toffset denotes the time offset of the time window.

[0190] In other words, when the current frame / subframe / slot / symbol n is equal to Tstart, the terminal device 110 may start the time window at the beginning of this frame / subframe / slot / symbol n and last for a duration corresponding to the length of the time window.

[0191] It is to be understood that this equation is merely an example, and the time window may also be determined in any other suitable ways. In some embodiments, Toffset = 0. That is, no time offset is used.

[0192] In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may report the data during the time window. In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may not perform the reporting of the data outside of the time window. In some embodiments, the terminal device 110 may stop collection of the data outside of the time window. In other words, the terminal device 110 may not transmit AI data collection report and preform the related AI measurement for data collection outside of the time window, regardless of the data collection related configuration that indicates to initiate the transmission at this time point (i.e., the UE can only transmit AI data collection during the time window) .

[0193] In this way, a power saving mechanism may be provided for a data collection report.

[0194] FIG. 4B illustrates a diagram 400B illustrating another example reporting of collected data in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. In this example, a periodicity of a time window is 10 frames, a time offset of the time window is 0, and a length of the time window is 5 frames. As shown in FIG. 4B, data collection report is only transmitted in time windows 411, 412, 413 and is not transmitted outside of the time windows 411, 412, 413.

[0195] For illustration, another example procedure of controlling a data collection report is described as below.

[0196] The UE shall set up the AI data report window in accordance with the received related configuration (i.e., Periodicity, Offset, Window_length / timer) .

[0197] 1> if (the current frame / subframe / slot / symbol) modulo (periodicity) = (offset) :

[0198] 2> start window for a duration according to Window_length / timer at the beginning of the current frame / subframe / slot / symbol;

[0199] 1> if the AI data report window is running:

[0200] 2> not transmit the AI data collection report regardless of the AI data collection related configuration to indicate initiating AI data report;

[0201] 2> not preform the related AI measurement for data collection.

[0202] In this example, IE Window_length / timer denotes a length of the AI data report window, Periodicity denotes a periodicity of the AI data report window, and Offset denotes a time offset of the AI data report window.

[0203] Continuing to refer to FIG. 3, the network device 120 may perform 330 the model training based on the data reported by the terminal device 110. The model training is dependent on network implementation.

[0204] So far, data collection for model training of an AI model is described. With the process 300, a collected data set for model training may be reported to a network under a certain condition, and thus signaling overhead for data reporting may be reduced and power consumption of a terminal device may be reduced. Further, model training at the network may be facilitated.

[0205] It is to be understood that operations or processes or procedures described above in connection with FIGs. 3 to 4B may be performed separately or in any suitable combination.

[0206] EXAMPLE IMPLEMENTATION OF METHODS

[0207] Corresponding to the above process, embodiments of the present disclosure provide methods of communication implemented at a terminal device and a network device. These methods will be described below with reference to FIGs. 5 and 6.

[0208] FIG. 5 illustrates a flowchart of an example method 500 of communication implemented at a terminal device in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For example, the method 500 may be performed at the terminal device 110 as shown in FIG. 1. For the purpose of discussion, in the following, the method 500 will be described with reference to FIG. 1. It is to be understood that the method 500 may include additional blocks not shown and / or may omit some blocks as shown, and the scope of the present disclosure is not limited in this regard.
