Description

TRANSMISSION OF TSC STREAM VIA TSN ENABLED TNFIELD

[0001] Example embodiments of the present disclosure generally relate to the field of communications and in particular, to methods, apparatuses, and a computer readable storage medium for transmitting a time sensitive communications (TSC) stream via a time sensitive networking (TSN) enabled transport network (TN) .BACKGROUND

[0002] Time Sensitive Communication (TSC) was introduced as an essential part of Ultra Reliable and Low Latency Communication (URLLC) in release 16 (R16) of the third generation partnership project (3GPP) , and native TSC was introduced to provide deterministic transmission capability without relying on TSN specific functions in release 17 (R17) .

[0003] A new work item was approved in 3GPP release 18 (R18) , which is entitled “study on 5G timing resiliency and TSC &URLLC enhancements” . An essential part of this work contains to study mechanisms to use a TSN Transport Network for N3 data exchange between a radio access network (RAN) and a user plane function (UPF) , in order to support a better end-to-end determinism and low latency communication. Specifically, a TSC stream may be transmitted from the UPF to a terminal device, or from the terminal device to the UPF. However, in case a handover of the terminal device occurs, details of the transmission of the TSC stream are needed to be further studied.SUMMARY

[0047] TSC, in 3GPP release 16 (R16) , utilizes TSN features in fully centralized model, where the 5G system (5GS) acts as a Layer 2 (L2) bridge in a TSN network and supports TSN streams as periodic deterministic time-sensitive Ethernet traffic flows. A centralized network configuration (CNC) collects TSN stream requirements from centralized user configuration (CUC) , schedules TSN streams, and configures each bridge, including the 5GS bridge, along the determined path. For 5GS Bridge, TSN application function (AF) receives TSN stream configurations from the CNC. Respective per-stream filtering and policing (PSFP) information is used to derive TSC assistance container (TSCAC) , which contains flow direction, periodicity, and burst arrival time (BAT) . Since 3GPP release 17 (R17) , 5GS has defined generic enablers for native TSC and TSN. Exposure for TSC service can support both Ethernet and IP traffic. AF can request a service with certain quality of service (QoS) requirement as well as specific time synchronization option. A network function (NF)  time sensitive communication and time synchronization function (TSCTSF) is introduced to take care of time synchronization, individual QoS parameters, and TSC assistance information (TSCAI) determination. In a related study item in 3GPP release 18 (R18) , it is proposed to study mechanisms to use a TSN Transport Network for N3 data exchange between the (R) AN and the UPF.

[0048] FIG. 1A illustrates an example communication system 100 in which embodiments of the present disclosure may be implemented. Specifically, the system 100 illustrates an exemplary architecture selected by 3GPP SA2 group to study the support of a TSN enabled TN for N3 communication.

[0049] The 5G System is integrated with the external network as a TSN bridge. This "logical" TSN bridge includes TSN Translator functionality for interoperation between TSN Systems and 5G System both for user plane (UP) and control plane (CP) . 5GS TSN translator functionality consists of Device-side TSN translator (DS-TT) and Network-side TSN translator (NW-TT) . 5GS specific procedures in 5GC and RAN, wireless communication links, etc. remain hidden from the TSN network. To achieve such transparency to the TSN network and the 5GS to appear as any other TSN Bridge, the 5GS provides TSN ingress and egress ports via DS-TT and NW-TT.

[0050] The 5G System Architecture contains the following reference points: (1) N1: Reference point between the UE (or DS-TT) 110 and the access and mobility management function (AMF) . (2) N2: Reference point between the (R) AN 120 and the AMF. (3) N3: Reference point between the (R) AN 120 and the UPF (or NW-TT) 130. (4) N4: Reference point between the session management function (SMF) and the UPF 130. It is to be understood that some more reference points may be included in the 5G System Architecture, which are not shown in FIG. 1A.

[0051] The interworking is applicable when the transport network deploys the fully centralized (FC) configuration model. In this scenario, a TSN TN 101 is deployed to realize the N3 interface between (R) AN 120 and UPF 130. From the perspective of the TSN TN 101, (R) AN 120 and UPF 130 act as End Stations of the TSN TN 101.

[0052] When the 5GS supports interworking with IEEE TSN deployed in the transport network, the CUC that is collocated with SMF interworks with the CNC in the transport network (TN CNC) 102. The SMF / CUC 140 provides the stream requirements on QoS Flow basis (i.e. translated Talker group and Listener group information) via the  User / Network-Interface (UNI) to the TN CNC 102. The TN CNC 102 uses the stream requirements as input to configure respective path (s) in TSN TN. A path may also contain schedules to support the IEEE 802 enhancements for scheduled traffic. Based on the results, the TN CNC 102 provides a Status group that contains the end station communication-configuration back to the SMF / CUC 140.

[0053] It is to be appreciated that although FIG. 1A is illustrated with reference to a fully centralized (FC) configuration model, some other configuration models are also applied, e.g., a fully distributed configuration model, or a centralized network / distributed user configuration model. In some implementations, a link-local registration protocol (LRP) , a resource allocation protocol (RAP) , a stream reservation protocol (SRP) , or another protocol defined in the future, etc. may be used. For ease of description, some example embodiments discussed below are provided in the context of FC configuration model, but they can also be applied to other communication scenarios, which will not be described in detail.

[0054] A further reduction of the 5GS internal latency is expected when a TSN TN is provided to the N3 interface. This will not only reduce the delay for TSC streams in the Core Network (CN) but also optimizes the use of (R) AN resources when the TSC streams are provided in a deterministic way. To exploit the benefits of the TSN TN to TSC streams, the 5GS is required to provide for each TSC stream the relevant traffic requirements to the TSN TN. The TSN TN uses the TSC stream requirements to: calculate the path (s) and reservation of Network Resources between (R) AN and UPF / NW-TT; configure the TSN Bridges in the TSN Transport Network; and finally provide the communication-configuration information for the TSN stream in the TN to 5GS.

[0055] For a downlink traffic (e.g., a DL TSC stream) from the UPF to the UE, the UPF may act as talker end station and the base station in the (R) AN may act as listener end station, and the UPF may transform the TSC stream into a TN stream. For an uplink traffic (e.g., a UL TSC stream) from the UE to the UPF, the base station in the (R) AN may act as talker end station and the UPF may act as listener end station, and the base station may transform the TSC stream into a TN stream. The control plane (e.g., the SMF / CUC shown in FIG. 1A) that acts on behalf of UPF and base station in the (R) AN may initiate for TN stream the path calculation with or without stream scheduling in the TSN TN.

[0056] In some scenarios, a handover (HO) of the UE may be required. For example, in industrial internet of things (I-IoT) use cases, an automated guided vehicle (AGV) , platooning, a moving robot, etc. may be handed over among different base stations.

[0057] FIG. 1B illustrates an example handover schematic 150. Assuming a TSC stream A is to be transmitted from the UPF 130 to the UE 110, and the UE 110 is to be handed over (or switched) from a source BS (S-BS) 120-1 to a target BS (T-BS) 120-2, e.g., due to a mobility of the UE 110. When the UE 110 is connected to the S-BS 120-1, the TSC stream A is transformed into a TN stream AA from the UPF 130 to the S-BS 120-1. When the UE 110 is handed over to the T-BS 120-2, e.g. when the UE 110 has established the wireless connection to the T-BS 120-2, the TSC stream A is transformed in to a TN stream AB from the UPF 130 to the T-BS 120-2.

[0058] FIG. 1C illustrates another example handover schematic 160. Assuming a TSC stream B is to be transmitted from the UE 110 to the UPF 130, and the UE 110 is to be handed over from a source BS (S-BS) 120-1 to a target BS (T-BS) 120-2, e.g., due to a mobility of the UE 110. When the UE 110 is connected to the S-BS 120-1, the TSC stream B is transformed into a TN stream BA from the S-BS 120-1 to the UPF 130. When the UE 110 is handed over to the T-BS 120-2, e.g. when the UE 110 has established the wireless connection to the T-BS 120-2, the TSC stream B is transformed in to a TN stream BB from the T-BS 120-2 to the UPF 130.

[0059] There are HO requirements defined by 3GPP and IEEE 802.1 requirements on TSN for the TN.

[0060] · 3GPP requirements on HO: 3GPP has introduced the general packet radio service (GPRS) tunnel protocol user plane (GTP-U) to transmit packets of a PDU session between UPF and BS at N3 interface. Based on this protocol, the HO procedure with the HO preparation phase and HO execution phase were defined to fulfill the specific requirements on HO. Beside seamless continuity of DL traffic during the HO procedure, a fast switch-over from the UPF and S-BS path to the UPF and T-BS path is necessary to guarantee a successful HO.

[0061] · IEEE 802.1 requirements on TSN: Traffic which is transmitted via a TSN enabled TN is classified either as stream or non-stream type. TSN offers, especially for stream type traffic, additional functions like PSFP, scheduling, and cyclic queuing and forwarding (CQF) to guarantee a deterministic behavior within the TSN TN.

[0062] However, the 3GPP requirements on HO are not aligned with the IEEE 802.1 requirements on TSN. For example, while 3GPP requirements on HO expects a fast path establishment between UPF and T-BS during the HO procedure, IEEE 802.1 has defined that the path calculation and scheduling for stream type traffic is not time critical. In this event, how to handle the handover of the UE without violating the communication requirements is needed to be further studied.

[0063] Embodiments of the present disclosure provide a solution for transmitting a TSC stream via a TSN enabled TN in which the TSC stream may be transformed into a TN stream. In the solution, multiple candidate network devices may be determined for serving a terminal device, e.g. by considering a HO procedure of the terminal device. In the solution, multiple TN streams associated with the multiple candidate network devices respectively may be established in the TSN enabled TN between the UPF and the multiple candidate network devices, where at least one of the multiple TN streams is used for transmitting the packets of the TSC stream between the UPF and the terminal device via a corresponding candidate network device. Principles and implementations of the present disclosure will be described in detail below with reference to the figures.

[0064] In the present disclosure, the terminal device may refer to a moving UE which will perform at least one handover, for example, the terminal device may be an AGV in an industrial automation (IA) use case. It is to be noted that the terminal device may be implemented as another format in a different use case. In the following embodiments, the terminal device may be discussed with reference to a UE.

[0065] For ease of description, some example embodiments following are described with reference to a handover scenario in FIG. 2, which illustrates a predetermined route of a UE 110. For example, the UE 110 may initially be served by BS1 121, and then move along the route to hand over to BS2 122, then to BS3 123, and then back to BS1 121. For example, the UE 110 may be handed over from BS1 121 to BS2 122, handed over from BS2 122 to BS3 123, then handed over from BS3 123 to BS1 121, etc. It is to be understood that there may be more or less base stations associated with the predetermined route.

[0066] In the present disclosure, the term “predetermined route” may also be called as a predefined route, a settled route, a predetermined moving route, a predefined moving route, a settled route, a route, or the like.

[0067] The apparatus of a core network function in the present disclosure may refer to an  apparatus or a function in CN for controlling a PDU session, QoS flows, and service data flows, for example, it may be a function in 5GS e.g. control plane. In the following embodiments, the apparatus of a core network function will be discussed with reference to SMF or CUC (SMF / CUC) . The following embodiments also involve a UPF, which may be replaced by another function at user plane in some other implementations.

[0068] The TSN enabled TN (may be referred to as a TSN TN) may deploy a fully centralized configuration model, a fully distributed configuration model, or a centralized network / distributed user configuration model. For ease of description, in the following embodiments, the TSN enabled TN (TSN TN) is discussed with reference to a fully centralized configuration model, for example, a TN CNC may be involved.

[0069] In the present disclosure, the PDU session may include one or more TSC streams, each TSC stream may belong to different traffic types. For example, the TSC stream may be a TSN stream e.g. defined in R16. For example, the TSC stream may be a native TSC stream e.g. defined in R17. In the present disclosure, the term “TSC stream” is used as a generic term for both TSC and TSN based services.

[0070] The following embodiments are discussed with reference to a TSC stream, which may be any one of the one or more TSC streams included in the PDU session. In other words, if the PDU session includes multiple TSC streams, the following embodiments are applied for each of the multiple TSC streams.

[0071] In the present disclosure, a TSC stream may refer to a DL TSC stream or a UL TSC stream, for example, the DL TSC stream (e.g. a DL traffic or a DL flow) is to be transmitted from the UPF to the UE, while the UL TSC stream (e.g. a UL traffic or a UL flow) is to be transmitted from the UE to the UPF. The TSC stream is transmitted via a TSN TN, within which a TN stream is transmitted. For example, one or more BSs are connected to the UPF via the TSN TN. The TSC stream is transformed to a TN stream according to mapping information. For example, the transformation may be performed by the UPF or by the TSN TN for DL TSC stream, and the transformation may be performed by the BS or by the TSN TN for UL TSC stream.

[0072] In the TSN enabled TN, the UPF acts as a talker end station and the BS acts as a listener end station for DL TSC stream, and the BS acts as a talker end station and the UPF acts as a listener end station for UL TSC stream. For example, the UPF may include a core  network talker listener (CN-TL) function, and the BS may include an access network talker listener (AN-TL) function.

[0073] Reference is further made to FIG. 3, which illustrates an example of a procedure 300 in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure. The procedure 300 may involve a UE 110, BS1 121, BS2 122, BS3 123, AMF 141, TN CNC 102, SMF / CUC 140, and UPF 130. It is to be understood that the procedure 300 is discussed with reference to FIGS. 1A and 2 for ease of description. It would be appreciated that the procedure 300 may be applied to other communication scenarios, which will not be described in detail.

[0074] In the procedure 300, a predetermined route of the UE 110 is preconfigured at the SMF / CUC 140 at 310. In some implementations, a route (or moving route) of the UE 110 may be predetermined (or predefined, settled) . In some implementations, the predetermined route may be configured (or stored) at the UE 110, and thus the UE 110 may perform at least one handover based on the predetermined route. In some implementations, the predetermined route may be stored at (or known by) the SMF / CUC 140.

[0075] In some example embodiments, the predetermined route of the UE 110 may indicate a movement of the UE 110 in multiple cells provided by the base stations, such as BS1 121, BS2 122, and BS3 123. In some examples, the predetermined route of the UE 110 may be preconfigured as a table for the UE 110, for example, the table includes identifiers of BS1 121, BS2 122, and BS3 123. In some examples, an identifier of a base station may be one of:a GTP-U tunnel endpoint identifier (TEID) associated with the base station, an IP address, or an end station identity. In the present disclosure, the GTP-U TEID associated with the base station is also called as the GTP-U tunnel information associated with the base station. Further the GTP-U tunnel information may contain additional identification information defined for the GTP-U tunnel, e.g., IPv4-tuples, IPv6-tuples, quality of service identifiers (QFI) .

[0076] In some examples, the route of the UE 110 may be determined based on a service area associated with the TSC stream or a service area associated with the UE 110.

[0077] In some example embodiments, the predetermined route of the UE 110 may be obtained by application and radio planning in a factory, for example, the UE 110 may be an AGV used in an IA use case. In some examples, the application planning may constrain the movement of the UE 110, and the radio planning may constraint the coverage map of all deployed BSs.

[0078] In the procedure 300, the UE 110 establishes a PDU session with 5GS at 315. In some implementations, when the UE 110 is powered on (e.g. first powered on) , the PDU session establishment may be performed to set up the UE (DS-TT) port of the 5GS bridge.

[0079] It is to be understood that there is no strict order of the operation 310 and the operation 315. For example, the PDU session may be established, and then the predetermined route of the UE 110 is preconfigured to the SMF / CUC 140. In some embodiments, the operations 310 and 315 may be regarded as a procedure of pre-configuration and initiation of the PDU session setup. In some embodiments, the following operations may be regarded as a procedure of PDU session modification for TSC stream deployment and a procedure of PDU session release.

[0080] In the procedure 300, the SMF / CUC 140 receives information of a TSC stream at 320, and identifies the PDU session and the UE 110 associated with the TSC stream, at 325.

[0081] In some implementations, the operations 320 and 325 may be regarded as a procedure of a setup for a TSC stream. In some implementations, when a TSC stream is deployed within the 5GS, the SMF / CUC 140 may receive information of the TSC stream, which may include TSC stream requirement (s) and may be provided as policy and charging control (PCC) rules. In some examples, the TSC stream requirement (s) may include one or more of: quality of service (QoS) parameters, TSC assistance information (TSCAI) , or header information of the TSC stream. In some implementations, the SMF / CUC 140 may determine that the TSC stream is associated with the PDU session of the UE 110, in other words, the SMF / CUC 140 may determine that the TSC stream is to be transmitted between the UE 110 and the UPF 130. For example, the TSC stream may be a DL TSC stream (may be represented as TSC stream A) from the UPF 130 to the UE 110. For example, the TSC stream may be a UL TSC stream (may be represented as TSC stream B) from the UE 110 to the UPF 130.

[0082] In the procedure 300, the SMF / CUC 140 determines multiple BSs (e.g. potential BSs or candidate BSs) for serving the UE 110 at 330. In the present disclosure, each of the multiple BSs is connected with the UPF 130 via a TSN enabled TN (TSN TN) , for example, an N3 connection may be established between the UPF 130 and each BS.

[0083] It is to be noted that the determined multiple BSs in the present disclosure may refer to multiple candidate (or potential) BSs for serving the UE 110. For ease of description,  “multiple BSs” may be used for brevity in the following description. As used herein, the term multiple refers to plural, at least two, two or more, three or more, four of more, etc.

[0084] In some implementations, the predetermined route of the UE 110 may be used for determining the multiple BSs, for example, the determined multiple BSs include BS1 121, BS2 122, and BS3 123. In some examples, when the UE 110 moves along the predetermined route of the UE 110, it may camp in multiple cells that are provided by multiple BSs, such as BS1 121, BS2 122, and BS3 123.

[0085] In some example embodiments, the SMF / CUC 140 may determine at least one handover to be performed by the UE 110, and the at least one handover is associated with the multiple BSs which include BS1 121, BS2 122, and BS3 123. In some examples, a local policy predefined in the SMF / CUC 140 may be used for determining the at least one handover to be performed by the UE 110. In some examples, a service area of the TSC stream may be used for determining the at least one handover to be performed by the UE 110. For example, the SMF / CUC 140 may be configured (pre-configured) with the service area of the TSC stream.

[0086] Optionally, the service area of the TSC stream covers part of (not whole) the predetermined route of the UE 110, then the multiple BSs may be determined as those associated with the part of the predetermined route of the UE 110. For example, assuming that a certain TSC service may not be required along the whole route of the UE 110, e.g., a high resolution camera is only activated along a section of the whole route, then the service is therefore only provided within the coverage of a single or a subset of the candidate cells (BSs) . In some examples, the determined multiple BSs therefore may be restricted on a per TSC stream basis. In this event, assignment of unused resources could be avoided at the expense of higher administrative costs.

[0087] In addition, the SMF / CUC 140 may further determine multiple TN streams associated with the multiple BSs respectively. In some examples, a TN stream is associated with the UPF 130 and one BS of the multiple BSs.

[0088] It is to be noted that the multiple TN streams in the present disclosure may also be referred to as multiple candidate (or potential) TN streams, and for ease of description, “multiple TN streams” will be used in the following description for brevity.

[0089] In some implementations, the SMF / CUC 140 may further determine multiple TN paths associated with the multiple BSs. For example, if the at least one handover is  determined, then the SMF / CUC 140 may derive a set of candidate paths (i.e., multiple TN paths) between the UPF 130 and the multiple BSs. Specifically, with reference to FIG. 2, the multiple BSs include BS1 121, BS2 122, and BS3 123, then the multiple TN paths include a first TN path between UPF 130 and BS1 121, a second TN path between UPF 130 and BS2 122, and a third TN path between UPF 130 and BS3 123.

[0090] Optionally, the SMF / CUC 140 may determine one or more ports at the UPF 130 for the multiple paths, e.g., based on available resources at the UPF 130. For example, a number of the one or more ports may be less than or equal to the number of multiple paths. In some examples, one port at the UPF 130 may be used for the multiple paths. In some examples, more than one port at the UPF 130 may be used for the multiple paths, for example a first port may be used for the first TN path and a second port at the UPF 130 may be used for the second TN path and the third TN path. In some examples, multiple ports at the UPF 130 may be used for the multiple paths, for example, each port is used for one of the multiple TN paths.

[0091] In some examples, a single port at each BS of the determined multiple BSs may also be determined by the SMF / CUC 140.

[0092] In some examples, the number of the one or more ports at the UPF 130 for the multiple paths may equal to the number of the multiple paths, i.e., the number of multiple candidate BSs, in this case, sufficient port resources for the TN end stations will be available. In some other examples, respective resource consumption for all candidate TN paths may be analyzed, e.g. by using information for TSC streams and the 5GS network planning information, to determine an optimized number of one or more ports at the UPF 130. In some examples, further use cases may be further considered, for example, there may be another AGV (with a further TSC stream) to be served in parallel, and the SMF / CUC 140 needs to consider the availability of the port resources for all candidate TN streams of all candidate TSC streams.

[0093] Optionally, the SMF / CUC 140 may not determine the port (s) at the UPF 130 for the multiple paths, for example, the TN CNC 102 may select the one or more ports at the UPF 130 while establishing the multiple TN paths for the multiple TN streams.

[0094] In addition, the SMF / CUC 140 may further determine multiple TN streams associated with the multiple TN paths (i.e. associated with the multiple BSs) . In some  implementations, the SMF / CUC 140 may determine stream information for each of the multiple TN streams, as shown at 335 in FIG. 3.

[0095] In some example embodiments, the stream information may include a stream identification. In some examples, the SMF / CUC 140 may generate, for each TN stream, a corresponding StreamID.

[0096] In some example embodiments, the stream information may include tunnel information. In some examples, information of a GTP-U tunnel that is used for each TN stream may be determined, and the tunnel information may include one or more of: access network (AN) tunnel information (e.g., GTP-U tunnel information associated with the BS) , core network (CN) tunnel information (i.e., GTP-U tunnel information associated with the UPF 130) , IP address, or the port at the UPF 130.

[0097] In some example embodiments, the stream information may include stream requirements. In some examples, for a specific TN stream (which may be any one of the multiple TN streams) , corresponding stream requirements (such as QoS requirements) of the specific TN stream may be determined based on the TSC stream requirement (s) and a packet delay budget (PDB) between the UPF 130 and the BS associated with the specific TN stream. For example, the TSC stream requirement (s) may include one or more of: QoS parameters, TSCAI, or header information of the TSC stream, as described above.

[0098] In some example embodiments, the stream information may include mapping information. In some examples, for a specific TN stream (which may be any one of the multiple TN streams) , corresponding mapping information which is used for transforming the TSC stream to the specific TN stream may be generated (or determined) by the SMF / CUC 140.

[0099] As a specific example, first mapping information may be used for transforming the TSC stream to a first TN stream (which will be transmitted over the first TN path between UPF 130 and BS1 121) , second mapping information may be used for transforming the TSC stream to a second TN stream (which will be transmitted over the second TN path between UPF 130 and BS2 122) , and third mapping information may be used for transforming the TSC stream to a third TN stream (which will be transmitted over the third TN path between UPF 130 and BS3 123) .

[0100] In some embodiments, the SMF / CUC 140 may provide the mapping information for the multiple TN streams to the UPF 130. In some examples, the first, second, and third mapping information is provided to the UPF 130.

[0101] In some embodiments, the SMF / CUC 140 may provide associated mapping information for a TN stream to a corresponding BS. In some examples, the first mapping information is provided to BS1 121, the second mapping information is provided to BS2 122, and the third mapping information is provided to BS3 123.

[0102] In the procedure 300, the SMF / CUC 140 initiates, at 340, a path establishment procedure for the multiple candidate BSs e.g., which are determined at 330. In some implementations, the path establishment procedure may also be called a TN stream establishment procedure, which may be used for establishing multiple candidate TN streams associated with the multiple BSs. That is, the SMF / CUC 140 may initiate an establishment of the multiple TN streams in the TSN enabled TN.

[0103] In some implementations, the SMF / CUC 140 transmits a user network interface (UNI) information to the TN CNC 102, for example, the UNI information may be the UNI stream requirements at 342. In some examples, the UNI stream requirements may include stream requirements of the multiple TN streams. In some examples, the UNI stream requirements may be used for requesting the TN to establish the multiple TN paths for the multiple TN streams.

[0104] In some examples, the UNI stream requirements may indicate the one or more ports at the UPF 130 that determined by the SMF / CUC 140. In some other examples, the UNI stream requirements may indicate at least one available ports at the UPF 130, so that the TN CNC 102 may select one or more ports from the at least one available ports.

[0105] In some implementations, the TN CNC 102 configures the multiple TN paths at 344. In some examples, the TN CNC 102 may configure the multiple TN paths (with or without schedules) for the multiple TN streams respectively.

[0106] In some examples, the TN CNC 102 may select the one or more ports at the UPF 130 while establishing the multiple TN paths, e.g. based on available information on resources at the ports.

[0107] In some implementations, the TN CNC 102 transmits status information via UNI to the SMF / CUC 140 at 346. In some embodiments, the status information for the multiple TN streams may include interface configuration information for respective TN stream. In  some examples, the status information for the multiple TN streams is transmitted from the TN CNC 102 to the SMF / CUC 140, and then the SMF / CUC may obtain, for each of the multiple TN streams, the respective end station communication configuration information for Talker and Listener.

[0108] In addition or alternatively, the SMF / CUC 140 may determine and store information of the PDU session at the SMF / CUC 140. In some implementations, the information of the PDU session may include TSC information of the TSC stream, stream information of the multiple TN streams, and / or status information of the PDU session.

[0109] In some example embodiments, the information of the PDU session may include one or more of: a TSC stream identification of the TSC stream, multiple stream identifications of the multiple TN streams, tunnel information used for each of the multiple TN streams, stream requirements for each of the multiple TN streams, status information of the PDU session, the interface configuration information for each of the multiple streams, or mapping information used for transforming from the TSC stream to each of the multiple TN streams.. For example, a TSC stream identification may include a virtual local area network identifier (VID) , or a QoS flow identifier (QFI) . For example, the status information of the PDU session may show a current working step with the 5GS. For example, the status information of the PDU session may indicate which of the multiple TN paths (or multiple TN streams) is active.

[0110] In addition or alternatively, the SMF / CUC 140 may transmit the information of the PDU session to the UPF 130. The SMF / CUC 140 may transmit, to respective BS of the multiple BSs, corresponding information of the PDU session.

[0111] In some examples, the SMF / CUC 140 may transmit some or all of the following to a specific BS (which is associated with a specific TN stream of the multiple TN streams) : a TSC stream identification of the TSC stream, a stream identification of the specific TN stream, tunnel information used for the specific TN stream, stream requirements for the specific TN stream, status information of the PDU session, interface configuration information for the specific TN stream, or mapping information used for transforming from the TSC stream to the specific TN stream.

[0112] The SMF / CUC 140 sets an active TN path and an active TN stream at 350. As a specific example, assuming that the UE 110 is currently connected to BS1 121, then the first TN path and the first TN stream associated with the BS1 121 is set as an active TN path and  active TN stream. In some other examples, other TN streams (other TN paths) are set as passive TN streams (passive TN paths) .

[0113] In the present disclosure, an active TN stream and an active TN path may be used interchangeably, and a passive TN stream and a passive TN path may be used interchangeably

[0114] In some implementations, the SMF / CUC 140 may update the information of the PDU session, for example, the PDU session may be updated, to provide information to the Talker and Listener on InterfaceConfigurations, changed packet delay budgets, input for the calculation of Gate Control Information, input for Stream transformation, changes on active and passive TN stream (s) for a TSC stream, StatusInfo and FailedInterfaces information, etc.

[0115] In some implementations, the SMF / CUC 140 may determine which BS is currently serving the UE 110. In some examples, during the last PDU session establishment or PDU session modification, the SMF / CUC 140 may receive information from RAN and determine the serving BS (such as BS1 121) based on the GTP-U tunnel information associated with the BS. In addition, the SMF / CUC 140 may set the active TN path and the active TN stream for the serving BS (such as BS1 121) .

[0116] In some example embodiments, other TN path (s) may be set as passive (inactive) TN path (s) , and other TN stream (s) may be set as passive (inactive) TN stream (s) . For example, assuming the serving BS of the UE 110 is currently BS1 121, then the first TN path and the first TN stream associated with the BS1 121 is set as an active TN path and active TN stream, the second TN path (stream) associated with the BS2 122 is set as a passive TN path (stream) , and the third TN path (stream) associated with the BS3 123 is set as a passive TN path (stream) too.

[0117] In the present disclosure, an active TN stream and an active TN path are associated with a BS which is currently connected with the UE 110. That is, for a BS associated with the active TN stream and the active TN path, there is a current wireless connection to the UE 110. In the present disclosure, an active TN stream refers to a TN stream that is used to transmit the packets of the TSC stream in the TSN TN, for example, corresponding mapping information should be used for transforming the TSC stream into the active TN stream. In the present disclosure, a TN path used for transmitting the active TN stream may be regarded as an active TN path.

[0118] In the present disclosure, a passive (or inactive) TN stream refers to a TN stream that will not be used to transmit the packets of the TSC stream in the TSN TN, for example,  corresponding mapping information will not be used for transforming between the TSC stream and the passive TN stream. In the present disclosure, a TN path supposed to be used for transmitting the passive TN stream may be regarded as a passive TN path.

[0119] It is to be understood that since the status information of the PDU session may indicate the talker and listener role, it may explicitly or implicitly indicate also the active TN stream (and the active TN path) . In some examples, for a downlink TSC stream, the UPF 130 is set as a talker and BS1 121 is set as a listener; or for an uplink TSC stream, BS1 121 is set as a talker and the UPF 130 is set as a listener; then it may be determined that the active TN stream is the first TN stream associated with BS1 121 (correspondingly the active path is the first TN path associated with BS1 121) .

[0120] In the procedure 300, a talker and listener configuration may be performed at 360. In some implementations, the SMF / CUC 140 may transmit related information to each of the UPF 130 and the multiple BSs.

[0121] In some embodiments, the information of the PDU session may be provided to the UPF 130. In some embodiments, the UPF 130 may be notified which BS (such as BS1 121) is currently the listener (for DL TN stream) or talker (for UL TN stream) . In this case, the UPF 130 may be aware of which TN path is the active path (such as the first TN path) and which TN stream is the active stream (such as the first TN stream) , and therefore the UPF 130 may determine to use the first mapping information for performing the transformation, e.g. from the TSC stream to the active TN stream (downlink) or from the active TN stream to the TSC stream (uplink) .

[0122] In some embodiments, part of the information of the PDU session which is associated with a specific BS may be provided to the specific BS. Taking BS1 121 as an example, the following information of the PDU session may be provided to the BS1 121: a TSC stream identification of the TSC stream, a first stream identification of the first TN stream, first tunnel information used for the first TN stream, first stream requirements of the first TN stream, and first mapping information used for transforming between the TSC stream and the first TN stream.

[0123] In some examples, GTP-U tunnel information may be provided to the UPF 130 and each BS (of the multiple BSs) , e.g. during a current PDU session establishment / modification procedure, then the UPF 130 and each BS may identify locally which is the active TN stream. In other words, information of the active TN stream may be indicated implicitly.

[0124] In some examples, the SMF / CUC 140 may transmit updated information of the PDU session to the UPF 130 and a BS corresponds with the active TN stream. The updated information of the PDU session may indicate that the first TN stream is set to be an active TC stream, for example, first mapping information for the first TN stream will be activated for transforming between the TSC stream and the first TN stream.

[0125] In addition, the TSC stream may be transmitted between the UE 110 and the UPF 130 accordingly via BS1 121.

[0126] In some examples, for a DL TSC stream (such as a TSC stream A) , at 372, packets of the TSC stream A may be arrived at the UPF 130. The UPF 130 may transform the TSC stream A into a TN stream A1 by using first mapping information. Then packets of the TN stream A1 may be transmitted through the first TN path (active TN path) to BS1 121, and BS1 121 may further transmits packets of the TSC stream A to the UE 110.

[0127] In some examples, for a UL TSC stream (such as a TSC stream B) , at 374, packets of the TSC stream B may be transmitted from the UE 110 to BS1 121. BS1 121 may transform the TSC stream B into a TN stream B1 by using first mapping information. Then packets of the TN stream B1 may be transmitted through the first TN path (active TN path) to UPF 130, and UPF 130 may further transmits packets of the TSC stream B to another entity.

[0128] As mentioned above, the UE 110 will perform at least one handover, e.g. according to the predetermined route. In some examples, the UE 110 may switch from BS1 121 to BS2 122, e.g. during the transmission of the TSC stream at 372 or 374.

[0129] In the procedure 300, in case a handover is performed by the UE 110, then an update configuration is performed at 380. Details of the operation 380 may refer to FIG. 4A below, which illustrates a procedure for handling active and inactive TN streams when the UE 110 is handed over from BS1 to BS2.

[0130] Specifically, the SMF / CUC 140 may receive second trigger information indicating a change of a serving BS for the UE 110. For example, the second trigger information may be handover signalling from a target BS during a HO procedure of the UE 110.

[0131] For example, the UE 110 may handed over from BS1 to BS2, and the BS2 may determine and transmit the second trigger information. With reference to FIG. 4A, BS2 122 may transmit handover signalling to the SMF / CUC 140 at 382. Detection that the UE 110 is to be handed over from BS1 to BS2 may use available or received information at the BS2  during HO execution procedure e.g. information provided by the AMF, the completion of detach of the UE 110 from BS1, information provided by the UE 110 (e.g., the completion of RRC handover procedure) synchronization of the UE 110 to BS2, or reception of the TSC stream at BS2.

[0132] In some implementations, during the HO procedure, when the BS2 122 is ready for handover at 381 (e.g. after the HO execution phase for Xn-based HO or HO preparation phase N2-based HO is finished successfully) , BS2 122 may transmit HO signaling to the SMF / CUC 140 via the AMF 141 at 382.

[0133] In some examples, the handover signaling may be implemented as a handover status notification. For example, the handover status notification may be Path Switch Request for Xn-based handover. For example, the handover status notification may be HO Notify for N2-based HO.

[0134] In addition, BS2 122 may locally update the active TN path, for example, BS2 122 may set the second TN path as an active path, e.g., after operation 381 or 382. For example, BS2 122 may determine that TN stream A2 (by using second mapping information) for DL TSC stream or TN stream B2 (by using second mapping information) for UL TSC stream is the active TN stream.

[0135] In the procedure 380, the SMF / CUC 140 may update the information of the PDU session at 383 and further update the talker and listener configuration of the UPF 130 at 384.

[0136] In some implementations, during the handover procedure, upon receiving HO signalling from BS2 122 via the AMF 141, the SMF / CUC 140 may determine a handover status of the UE 110, that is switching from BS1 121 to BS2 122. In some implementations, the SMF / CUC 140 may switch the active path from the first TN path (between UPF 130 and BS1 121) to the second TN path (between UPF 130 and BS2 122) . In some implementations, the SMF / CUC 140 may determine to switch GTP-U tunnel to be associated with BS2 122. In some implementations, the SMF / CUC 140 may locally update the active TN stream to be TN stream A2 for DL TSC stream or TN stream B2 for UL TSC stream. In some implementations, the SMF / CUC 140 may set other TN streams as passive TN streams, such as TN streams A1 and A3 for DL TSC stream or TN streams B1 or B3 for UL TSC stream. In some implementations, the SMF / CUC 140 may update mapping information to be the second mapping information for further using.

[0137] In some implementations, the SMF / CUC 140 may transmit updated information to the UPF 130 via N4 signaling at 384 either as new parameter (e.g. TL-Container) or an existing signaling information (e.g. TEID and QFI) . For example, the updated information to the UPF 130 may indicate the active path, e.g. GTP-U tunnel information associated with BS2 122 may be included. For example, the updated information to the UPF 130 may include a TSC stream identification, so that the UPF 130 would be aware which TSC stream should be updated. In some implementations, the UPF 130 may set the second TN path associated with BS2 122 to be an active path, set the second TN stream associated with BS2 122 to be an active TN stream. In some implementations, the UPF 130 determines to use the second mapping information for transforming.

[0138] In some implementations, the updated information may indicate that the first TN stream is set as a passive TN stream and the second TN stream is set as an active TN stream.

[0139] In some example embodiments, the SMF / CUC 140 may transmit, to BS1, information indicating that the first TN stream is set as a passive TN stream. In some other example embodiments, BS1 may detect that the UE 110 is to be handed over from BS1 to BS2 and set the first TN stream associated with BS1 to be a passive TN stream. Detection that the UE 110 is to be handed over from BS1 to BS2 may use available or received information at BS1 during HO execution or completion procedure e.g. information provided by the SMF, information provided by BS2 (resource release command in case of Xn based handover) or information provided by AMF (reception of UE context release command in case of N2 based handover) .

[0140] In addition, the TSC stream may be transmitted between the UE 110 and the UPF 130 accordingly via BS2 122.

[0141] In some examples, for a DL TSC stream (such as a TSC stream A) , at 385, packets of the TSC stream A may be arrived at the UPF 130. The UPF 130 may transform the TSC stream A into a TN stream A2 by using second mapping information. Then packets of the TN stream A2 may be transmitted through the second TN path (active TN path) to BS2 122, and BS2 122 may further transmit packets of the TSC stream A to the UE 110.

[0142] In some examples, for a UL TSC stream (such as a TSC stream B) , at 386, packets of the TSC stream B may be transmitted from the UE 110 to BS2 122. BS2 122 may transform the TSC stream B into a TN stream B2 by using second mapping information. Then packets of the TN stream B2 may be transmitted through the second TN path (active  TN path) to UPF 130, and UPF 130 may further transmit packets of the TSC stream B to another entity.

[0143] As mentioned above, the UE 110 will further perform at least one handover, e.g. according to the predetermined route. In some examples, the UE 110 may further switch from BS2 122 to BS3 123, e.g. during the transmission of the TSC stream at 385 or 386. Further procedure may be executed similar as the procedure 380, and thus will not be repeated herein.

[0144] FIG. 4B illustrates an example of a procedure 400 for TSC stream termination in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure.

[0145] The SMF / CUC 140 receives third trigger information indicating that the TSC stream is to be terminated at 410. In some implementations, the third trigger information may be information about TSC termination. In some examples, when the TSC stream is terminated (e.g. the UE 110 is removed from the production scenario) , the TSC stream termination as PCC rules may be received by the SMF / CUC 140. In some implementations, the SMF / CUC 140 may identify the active and passive TN streams associated with the terminated TSC stream.

[0146] In the procedure 400, the SMF / CUC 140 initiates (or triggers) a procedure of TSC stream termination at 420.

[0147] The SMF / CUC 140 transmits a leave request to TN CNC 102, for example, UNI stream requirements may be sent to TN CNC 102 at 422. In some examples, the leave request is used for requesting to delete the multiple TN paths associated with the TSC stream. For example, the leave request may include a TSC stream identification of the TSC stream and multiple GTP-U tunnel information associated with the multiple BSs.

[0148] The TN CNC 102 deletes the multiple TN paths and corresponding scheduled information at 424. In addition, the TN CNC 102 transmits a leave response to the SMF / CUC 140, for example, UNI states information may be feed back to the SMF / CUC 140 at 426.

[0149] The SMF / CUC 140 initiates a procedure for deleting information associated with the terminated TSC stream at the UPF 130 and the multiple BSs (BS1 121, BS2 122, and BS3 123) at 430. In some examples, a removing indication may be transmitted from the SMF / CUC 140 to the UPF 130 and the multiple BSs (BS1 121, BS2 122, and BS3 123) . In addition, the UPF 130 removes (deletes) the first mapping information, the second mapping  information and the third mapping information. BS1 121 removes (deletes) the first mapping information, BS2 122 removes (deletes) the second mapping information, and BS3 123 removes (deletes) the third mapping information. In some examples, the interface configuration information for respective TN streams and the TSC stream are also be removed at the UPF 130 and the multiple BSs (BS1 121, BS2 122, and BS3 123) .

[0150] Accordingly, the TSC stream and corresponding TN streams in the TSN TN may be terminated.

[0151] In some example embodiments, the SMS / CUC 140 may receive fourth trigger information indicating that the PDU session is to be terminated at 410. In some implementations, the PDU session may include one or multiple TSC streams. In some implementations, the SMS / CUC 140 may initiate, for each of the one or multiple TSC streams, a termination procedure based on the fourth trigger information. For example, a termination procedure for any one of the one or multiple TSC streams is similar with operations 420-430 that discussed with reference to FIG. 4B, and thus will not be repeated herein.

[0152] FIG. 5A illustrates an example flow 510 of a DL TSC stream (such as TSC stream A) and FIG. 5B illustrates an example flow 520 of a UL TSC stream (such as TSC stream B) in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure. Specifically, the example flow 510 may correspond to the operation 385 in FIG. 4A and the example flow 520 may correspond to the operation 386 in FIG. 4A.

[0153] As shown in FIG. 5A, for a downlink TSC stream A, there are three candidate TN paths, which include a TN path 5102 between the UPF 130 and BS1 121, a TN path 5104 between the UPF 130 and BS2 122, and a TN path 5106 between the UPF 130 and BS3 123. Three TN streams may be determined corresponding to the three TN paths, and the three TN streams include TN stream A1 to be transmitted from the UPF 130 to BS1 121, TN stream A2 to be transmitted from the UPF 130 to BS2 122, and TN stream A3 to be transmitted from the UPF 130 to BS3 123. Since the UE 110 is currently connected to BS2 122, then the TN path 5104 is active TN path and TN stream A2 is active TN stream. The TN path 5102 and the TN path 5106 are passive (inactive) paths, and the TN stream A1 and TN stream A3 are passive (inactive) TN streams. Specifically, the UPF 130 may transform the TSC stream A into the TN stream A2 (active TN stream) by using second mapping information. Then  packets of the TN stream A2 may be transmitted through the TN path 5104 (active TN path) to BS2 122, and BS2 122 may further transmit packets of the TSC stream A to the UE 110.

[0154] As shown in FIG. 5B, for an uplink TSC stream B, there are three TN paths, which include a TN path 5202 between the UPF 130 and BS1 121, a TN path 5204 between the UPF 130 and BS2 122, and a TN path 5206 between the UPF 130 and BS3 123. Three TN streams may be determined corresponding to the three TN paths, and the three TN streams include TN stream B1 to be transmitted from BS1 121 to the UPF 130, TN stream B2 to be transmitted from BS2 122 to the UPF 130, and TN stream B3 to be transmitted from BS3 123 to the UPF 130. Since the UE 110 is currently connected to BS2 122, then the TN path 5204 is active path and TN stream B2 is active TN stream. The TN path 5202 and the TN path 5206 are passive (inactive) paths, and the TN stream B1 and TN stream B3 are passive (inactive) TN streams. Specifically, BS2 122 receives packets of TSC stream B from UE 110, and transforms the TSC stream B into the TN stream B2 (active TN stream) by using second mapping information. Then packets of the TN stream B2 may be transmitted through the TN path 5204 (active TN path) to UPF 130.

[0155] FIG. 6 illustrates an example 600 of six candidate TN paths with three different ports at UPF in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure. The SMF / CUC 140 or the TN CNC 102 may determine multiple ports at the UPF 130, for example, the multiple ports include P1, P2, and P3.

[0156] TN stream A1 for downlink and TN stream B1 for uplink may be established between BS1 121 and the UPF 130 with a single port at BS1 121 and a port P1 at UPF 130.

[0157] TN stream A2 for downlink and TN stream B2 for uplink may be established between BS2 122 and the UPF 130 with a single port at BS2 122 and a port P2 at UPF 130.

[0158] TN stream A3 for downlink and TN stream B3 for uplink may be established between BS3 123 and the UPF 130 with a single port at BS3 123 and a port P3 at UPF 130.

[0159] In FIG. 6, both the downlink TSC stream A and the uplink TSC stream B are shown, however, it is to be understood that there may be only the TSC stream A or the TSC stream B is transmitted.

[0160] According to the embodiments with reference to FIGS. 3-6, a TSC stream transmission procedure is provided, where multiple TN streams between the UPF and multiple BSs may be established. In the TSC stream transmission procedure, a TN path which is associated with a BS that currently connects to the UE may be determined as an  active path, and accordingly an active TN stream may be transmitted through the active path. As the UE is handed over to a new BS, the active path and corresponding active TN stream may be switched, as such, there is no need to forward packets from the BS to the new BS, the amount of traffic over Xn interface may be reduced, and thus a transmission efficiency of the TSC stream may be guaranteed.
