Abstract
Description
SIOC packaging management method and system
[0001] The present disclosure relates to a SIOC (ship in original container) packaging management method and system thereof, and more specifically, to a packaging management method and system thereof for reducing shipping costs by packaging SIOC products, which are shipped as is without additional packaging, in one packaging container together with other products to be shipped together.
[0002] SIOC products are shipped individually and not packaged together with other products in the same order, even when they could be packaged together. This means that even when SIOC products and other products could be packaged together in a single parcel, customers are receiving two or more parcels. Since most shipping costs are calculated based on the number of parcels, if something that could be packaged in a single parcel is packaged in multiple parcels, shipping costs increase. Since SIOC products are known to be the primary cause of splitting packages into multiple parcels, a packaging management method is needed to reduce shipping costs for orders containing SIOC products.
[0003] The technical problem to be solved through the embodiment of the present disclosure is to provide a method for managing packaging of SIOC products, which reduces the parcel count and increases the unit per parcel (UPP) by allowing SIOC products to be packaged together with other products in an order including SIOC products.
[0004] In addition, a technical problem to be solved through the embodiment of the present disclosure is to provide a SIOC product packaging management method that enables a user of a logistics center to efficiently manage packaging and delivery of an order containing SIOC products.
[0005] According to an embodiment of the present disclosure, a SIOC (ship in original container) packaging management method is performed by a computing device, and includes the steps of: receiving a first order from a customer, wherein the first order includes at least one first product having an SIOC flag set; managing the SIOC flag set for the first product depending on whether the first product and at least some of the remaining products included in the first order, excluding the first product, can be packaged in the same packaging container during a delivery process; wherein the step of managing the SIOC flag may include: removing the SIOC flag set for the first product when at least some of the first product and the remaining products can be packaged in the same packaging container; and maintaining the SIOC flag set for the first product when at least some of the first product and the remaining products cannot be packaged in the same packaging container.
[0006] In one embodiment, the step of removing the SIOC flag may include the step of removing a flag having a lower priority than the SIOC flag among the flags set in the first product, and maintaining a flag having a higher priority than the SIOC flag.
[0007] In one embodiment, the flag having a lower priority than the SIOC flag is characterized by including a stand-alone flag or a fragile flag.
[0008] In one embodiment, the step of managing the SIOC flag further comprises the step of setting a combined packaging flag to the first product if at least some of the first product and the remaining products can be packaged in the same packaging container, wherein the combined packaging flag indicates which products are to be packaged together with the first product.
[0009] In one embodiment, the step of managing the SIOC flag may further include the step of maintaining the SIOC flag set on the first product if the first product cannot be packed into the largest packaging container available during the shipping process.
[0010] In one embodiment, the step of managing the SIOC flag may further include the step of maintaining the SIOC flag set for the first product when no other products except the first product exist in the first order.
[0011] In one embodiment, the step of managing the SIOC flag further includes the step of removing the SIOC flag set for the first product when an increase in unit per parcel (UPP) is greater than or equal to a preset threshold when the first product and at least some of the remaining products are packaged in the same packaging container compared to when the first product is not additionally packaged, and the step of maintaining the SIOC flag set for the first product when the increase in the UPP is less than the threshold, wherein the UPP represents the number of products per unit package.
[0012] In one embodiment, the threshold is characterized in that it is determined based on the packaging cost and the shipping cost saved when packaging at least some of the first product and the remaining products in the same packaging container.
[0013] In one embodiment, the step of managing the SIOC flag further includes the step of managing the SIOC flag set for the first product depending on whether the first product and at least some of the remaining products included in the customer's second order can be packaged in the same packaging container during the delivery process, wherein the first order and the second order are different orders that are delivered simultaneously.
[0014] In one embodiment, the method further comprises the step of displaying information related to the delivery of the first order using a graphical user interface (GUI), wherein the information related to the delivery of the first order includes a result of managing the SIOC flag for the first product and information about a product among the remaining products that is packaged together with the first product.
[0015] According to another embodiment of the present disclosure, a SIOC packaging management system includes a processor and a memory storing instructions, which, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to perform the following operations: receiving a first order from a customer, the first order including at least one first product having an SIOC flag set; managing an SIOC flag set for the first product depending on whether the first product and at least some of the remaining products included in the first order, excluding the first product, can be packaged in the same packaging container during a delivery process; wherein the SIOC flag managing operation may include: removing an SIOC flag set for the first product if at least some of the first product and the remaining products can be packaged in the same packaging container; and maintaining an SIOC flag set for the first product if at least some of the first product and the remaining products cannot be packaged in the same packaging container.
[0016] In one embodiment, the operation of removing the SIOC flag may include an operation of removing a flag having a lower priority than the SIOC flag among the flags set in the first product, and maintaining a flag having a higher priority than the SIOC flag.
[0017] In one embodiment, the operation of managing the SIOC flag further comprises the operation of setting a combined packaging flag to the first product if at least some of the first product and the remaining products can be packaged in the same packaging container, wherein the combined packaging flag indicates which products are to be packaged together with the first product.
[0018] In one embodiment, the operation of managing the SIOC flag further includes an operation of removing the SIOC flag set for the first product when an increase in unit per parcel (UPP) is greater than or equal to a preset threshold when the first product and at least some of the remaining products are packaged in the same packaging container compared to when the first product is not additionally packaged, and an operation of maintaining the SIOC flag set for the first product when the increase in the UPP is less than the threshold, wherein the UPP represents the number of products per unit package.
[0019] In one embodiment, the threshold is characterized in that it is determined based on the packaging cost and the shipping cost saved when packaging at least some of the first product and the remaining products in the same packaging container.
[0020] In one embodiment, the operation of managing the SIOC flag further includes the operation of managing the SIOC flag set for the first product depending on whether the first product and at least some of the remaining products included in the customer's second order can be packaged in the same packaging container during the delivery process, wherein the first order and the second order are different orders that are delivered simultaneously.

[0030] The terms "comprises" and / or "comprising" as used in the specification do not exclude the presence or addition of one or more other components, steps, operations and / or elements.
[0031] In this specification, SIOC products refer to products whose original packaging (original container) is suitable for shipping and can be shipped outbound and in the original container without additional packaging. Furthermore, flags set on the product indicate attributes related to the product's shipping method. Furthermore, in this specification, a parcel refers to one or more products contained in a single packaging container, and UPP (unit per parcel) refers to the number of products per unit package.
[0032] FIG. 1 is a block diagram exemplarily showing the configuration of an entire system (10) in which a SIOC packaging management system (100) according to an embodiment of the present disclosure operates. Referring to FIG. 1, the entire system (10) may include a SIOC packaging management system (100), a service server (200), and a user terminal (300). The entire system (10) according to an embodiment of the present disclosure may receive a customer's order according to a shopping service provided by the service server (200) through the SIOC packaging management system (100), manage the packaging process for delivery of an order including a SIOC product, and transmit the management result to a user terminal (300) of a logistics system.
[0033] The SIOC packaging management system (100) may be configured using one or more physical servers included in a server farm based on cloud technology such as a virtual machine. The SIOC packaging management system (100) according to an embodiment of the present disclosure may include an order receiving module (110), a flag management module (120), and an information display module (130). Meanwhile, the components (modules) of the SIOC packaging management system (100) illustrated in FIG. 1 represent functionally distinct functional elements, and it should be noted that at least one component (module) may be implemented in a form that is integrated with each other in an actual physical environment. That is, the components (modules) of the SIOC packaging management system (100) may be implemented as a single physical server, or may be implemented by dividing them into multiple servers.
[0034] More specifically, the order receiving module (110) can first receive an order containing at least one SIOC product through the service server (200). Furthermore, the flag management module (120) can determine whether the SIOC product and at least some of the remaining products can be packaged in the same packaging container (e.g., a box) during the delivery process. While each product is typically packaged in a single packaging container, multiple products may be packaged in a single packaging container in some cases to reduce the parcel count. This is because a reduced parcel count reduces the cost of the delivery process. While SIOC products are typically delivered in their original packaging containers without additional packaging, they may be packaged together with other products to reduce the parcel count. Therefore, the flag management module (120) can manage the SIOC flag set for SIOC products based on whether the SIOC product and at least some of the remaining products included in the same order, excluding the SIOC product, can be packaged in the same packaging container during the delivery process.
[0035] Here, managing the SIOC flag means either removing or maintaining the SIOC flag set on the SIOC product. For example, if it is determined that the SIOC product and at least some of the remaining products can be packaged in the same packaging container, the flag management module (120) may remove the SIOC flag set on the SIOC product.
[0036] Additionally, the flag management module (120) can additionally set a combined packaging flag, indicating that a product with the SIOC flag removed is packaged with other products. The combined packaging flag can indicate which other products will be packaged together. Furthermore, the remaining products may also include SIOC products. In other words, multiple SIOC products may be packaged together in some cases.
[0037] On the other hand, if it is determined that at least some of the SIOC products and the remaining products cannot be packaged in the same packaging container, the flag management module (120) may maintain the SIOC flag set for the SIOC product. That is, the management result of the SIOC packaging management system (100) in the present disclosure may include whether the SIOC flag was removed or maintained for the SIOC product, or whether a combined packaging flag was set.
[0038] Specifically, whether at least some of the SIOC product and the remaining products can be packaged in the same packaging container may be determined based on whether the increase in unit per parcel (UPP) when the SIOC product and at least some of the remaining products are combined is greater than a preset threshold compared to when the SIOC product and at least some of the remaining products are not combined. For example, the threshold related to the increase in UPP may be set based on the additional packaging cost incurred when combining products and the shipping cost savings due to the reduced parcel count.
[0039] In other words, if the UPP increase exceeds a preset threshold, the savings in shipping costs are significant even if additional packaging costs are incurred, and thus the SIOC product's SIOC flag can be removed. Conversely, if the UPP increase is below the threshold, the savings in shipping costs are not significant compared to the additional packaging costs, and thus the SIOC product's SIOC flag can be maintained.
[0040] SIOC products may have other types of flags set in addition to the SIOC flag. Some flags have a higher priority than the SIOC flag, while others have a lower priority. When the SIOC flag is cleared, flags with a higher priority remain, while flags with a lower priority may be cleared along with the SIOC flag.
[0041] For example, a high-priority flag is the luxury shipping flag. Products with the luxury shipping flag set are packaged individually to provide a unique aesthetic to customers, and therefore cannot be combined with other products. Therefore, if a single product has both the luxury shipping flag and the SIOC flag set, removing the SIOC flag according to the embodiments of the present disclosure will not remove the luxury shipping flag, nor will it be combined with other products.
[0042] In contrast, flags with lower priorities include the stand-alone flag or the fragile flag. Since SIOC products are products that are not at risk of damage even if shipped in their original packaging, the stand-alone flag or the fragile flag need not be maintained when the SIOC flag is removed for combined packaging. Therefore, if a single product has the SIOC flag, the stand-alone flag, and the fragile flag all set, combined packaging will not occur if the stand-alone flag or the fragile flag is maintained when the SIOC flag is removed according to the embodiments of the present disclosure. Therefore, flags with priorities lower than the SIOC flag should be removed together when the SIOC flag is removed.
[0043] Meanwhile, if a SIOC product cannot be packaged in the largest available container during shipment (i.e., if the SIOC product is larger than the largest available container), the SIOC product cannot be combined with other products, and the SIOC flag will remain. Furthermore, if only one SIOC product is present in a single order, the SIOC flag will remain, as there is nothing else that can be combined.
[0044] The order receiving module (110) of the SIOC packaging management system (100) may receive two or more orders from the same customer from the service server (200). For example, different orders may be distinguished by different order numbers. However, in some cases, two or more different orders may be delivered simultaneously, and in this case, products belonging to two or more different orders may be packaged and delivered together. For example, even if the SIOC products included in the first order may be packaged in the same packaging container as at least some of the remaining products included in the first order or a second order different from the first order, the SIOC flag set on the SIOC products may be removed.
[0045] The information display module (130) can display information related to the delivery of an order containing SIOC products on a user terminal (300) using a graphical user interface (GUI). For example, the information related to the delivery of an order may include the results of SIOC flag management and information on products packaged with SIOC products. Furthermore, the GUI displayed according to an embodiment of the present disclosure may also display the reduced parcel count and increased UPP values resulting from the combined packaging of the SIOC product and other products. This allows users of the logistics system to more efficiently manage the delivery process of orders containing SIOC products.
[0046] The service server (200) may be a computing device / system (platform) that provides shopping services to customers. For example, the service server (200) may be a computing device / system that provides an online shopping site to a customer's terminal. Among the orders received from customers, the service server (200) may provide information related to orders containing SIOC products to the SIOC packaging management system (100).
[0047] The service server (200) may be implemented by at least one computing device. For example, all functions of the service server (200) may be implemented by a single computing device, or a first function of the service server (200) may be implemented by a first computing device, and a second function may be implemented by a second computing device. Alternatively, specific functions of the service server (200) may be implemented by multiple computing devices. For example, the computing devices may include any type of device equipped with a computing means and a communication means.
[0048] The user terminal (300) may be a computing device utilized by a user (e.g., a user of a logistics center) who manages delivery of a shopping service provided by the service server (200). For example, the user terminal (300) may include a smartphone, a desktop, a laptop, etc. For example, if the user terminal (300) is a smartphone, the user can manage delivery of the shopping service provided by the service server (200) through an application on the smartphone. However, the present disclosure is not limited thereto, and the user terminal (300) may be implemented as any device.
[0049] The components illustrated in Figure 1 can communicate over a network. For example, the network can be implemented as any type of wired or wireless network, such as a Local Area Network (LAN), a Wide Area Network (WAN), a mobile radio communication network, or Wibro (Wireless Broadband Internet).
[0050] FIG. 2 is a flowchart exemplifying an SIOC packaging management method according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. For reference, FIG. 2 illustrates steps / operations of the SIOC packaging management method performed in the SIOC packaging management system (100) of FIG. 1. Accordingly, in the following descriptions, if the subject of a specific step / operation is omitted, it can be understood that it is performed in the SIOC packaging management system (100). The following description will be made with reference to FIG. 1 along with FIG. 2.
[0051] In step S100, a customer's first order may be received, which includes at least one first product with an SIOC flag set (i.e., an SIOC product). In step S200, the SIOC flag set for the first product may be managed based on whether the first product and at least some of the remaining products included in the customer's first order, excluding the first product, can be packaged in the same packaging container during the delivery process. Here, managing the SIOC flag may mean either removing the SIOC flag or maintaining the SIOC flag.
[0052] Specifically, in step S210, it can be determined whether the first product and the remaining products can be packaged in the same packaging container. If packaged (YES), the SIOC flag set for the first product can be removed in step S220. On the other hand, if packaged (NO), the SIOC flag set for the first product can be maintained in step S230. The result of such flag management can be transmitted to the user terminal (300) of the logistics center. In step S300, information related to the delivery of the first order can be displayed on the user terminal (300) as a graphical user interface (GUI). As described with reference to FIG. 1, the information related to the delivery of the first order can include the result of the SIOC flag management and information on products packaged together with the SIOC product.
[0053] With reference to FIGS. 3 to 8 below, embodiments related to managing SIOC flags will be reviewed.
[0054] FIG. 3 is a flowchart illustrating one embodiment of a step (S220) of removing the SIOC flag of FIG. 2. Referring to FIG. 3, when the SIOC flag is removed, flags with a lower priority than the SIOC flag in step S221 may be removed together, and flags with a higher priority than the SIOC flag may be maintained in step S222. Flags with a lower priority than the SIOC flag may include a single delivery flag or a breakage warning flag, and flags with a higher priority than the SIOC flag may include a luxury delivery flag.
[0055] FIGS. 4 to 8 are flowcharts illustrating embodiments of the step (S200) of managing the SIOC flag of FIG. 2. Referring first to FIG. 4, after the SIOC flag set for the first product is removed in step S220, a combined packaging flag may be set for the first product in step S240. The combined packaging flag may indicate a product among the remaining products to be packaged together with the first product. A user of a logistics center can manage the packaging of SIOC products by confirming that the SIOC flag has been removed from an existing SIOC product and a combined packaging flag has been set.
[0056] Referring to FIG. 5, at step S250, it can be determined whether the first product can be packaged in the largest packaging container available during the shipping process. If it cannot be packaged (NO), the first product cannot be further packaged and must be shipped and delivered as an SIOC product. Therefore, at step S230, the SIOC flag set for the first product can be maintained.
[0057] Referring to FIG. 6, at step S260, it can be determined whether or not the customer's first order contains any products other than the first product. If no other products exist (NO), this indicates that only the first product exists and must be shipped and delivered as an SIOC product. Therefore, at step S230, the SIOC flag set for the first product can be maintained.
[0058] Referring to FIG. 7, in step S270, it can be determined whether the increase in UPP is greater than or equal to a preset threshold when the first product and the remaining products are packaged in the same packaging container. If it is greater than or equal to the threshold (YES), in step S220, the SIOC flag set for the first product can be removed. On the other hand, if it is less than the threshold (NO), in step S230, the SIOC flag set for the first product can be maintained. As described with reference to FIG. 1, the threshold related to the increase in UPP can be set based on the additional packaging cost incurred when combining products and the shipping cost saved due to the reduced parcel count.
[0059] Referring to FIG. 8, in step S280, it may be determined whether at least some of the remaining products included in the first product and the second order can be packaged in the same packaging container. Here, the second order may be an order that is different from the first order (e.g., has a different order number) but is shipped at the same time. If the second order can be packaged (YES), the SIOC flag set for the first product may be removed in step S220, and if the first product cannot be packaged (NO), the SIOC flag set for the first product may be maintained in step S230.
[0060] For example, step S280 may be performed after step S210 determines whether at least some of the first product and the remaining products of the first order are capable of being packaged together. Alternatively, depending on the embodiment, steps S210 and S280 may be performed simultaneously, so that it may be determined simultaneously whether at least some of the first product and the remaining products of the first and second orders are capable of being packaged together.
[0061] FIG. 9 is a block diagram showing the hardware configuration of a computing device (500) for SIOC packaging management according to an embodiment of the present disclosure.
