Abstract
Description
[0001] Folding knife
[0002] Field of technology
[0003] The proposed invention relates to hand cutting tools, in particular, to designs of knives with a rotating blade, the working part of which can be fixed in an open (unfolded) position.
[0004] State of the art
[0005] The state of the art provides many different types of folding knife designs, depending on their various purposes and purposes. Most folding knives include a mechanism for locking (fixing) the blade in the working, i.e. unfolded (open) position (hereinafter referred to as the locking lock). For example, the following types of locking locks are widely used: liner lock (liner lock, frame lock, bolster lock), lock on the blade spine (slip joint and back lock), pin lock (axis lock, ultra lock), push-button lock (button lock) or plunge lock.
[0006] Folding knives are also distinguished depending on the method of unfolding the blade, for example, with an automatic, semi-automatic and manual unfolding mechanism. Knives with automatic and semi-automatic blade unfolding have both significant advantages in the form of the speed of performing the specified operation and the ability to use the knife with one hand, and disadvantages in the form of increased sensitivity to contamination due to the rather complex design of the unfolding mechanism, and, therefore, less reliability.
[0007] The present invention describes a design for a folding knife with a manual unfolding mechanism, including a new type of locking lock for fixing the blade in the unfolded position.
[0008] The closest technical solution is a folding knife described in Chinese patent CN203141508U, 21.08.2013. The folding knife comprises a blade including a shank and a working part, hingedly attached to a static part of the handle with the ability to rotate in the plane of the folding knife, and a handle formed by movable and static parts connected with the ability to move the movable part of the handle relative to the static part in the direction transverse to the plane of rotation of the blade, and forming a space for placing the blade in its folded position, and closed in the unfolded position of the blade. The disadvantages of this folding knife are the lack of a mechanism for fixing the blade in the unfolded position, a limited area of use of the folding knife.
[0009] Disclosure of invention
[0010] Thus, the technical problem that the claimed invention is aimed at solving is the lack of a reliable, but at the same time simple design of a folding knife with a wide range of applications.
[0011] The technical result of the invention is to increase the reliability of fixing the blade of a folding knife in its unfolded (working) position while maintaining the simplicity of the process of cleaning the folding knife from dirt.
[0012] An additional advantage in the particular case of implementing the invention is the simplification of the processes of servicing and producing a folding knife due to the possibility of adjusting the position of the protruding element in order to eliminate vertical play in the blade.
[0013] The technical result is achieved due to the fact that the folding knife contains a blade including a shank and a working part, pivotally attached to the static part of the handle with the possibility of rotation in the plane of the folding knife, and a handle formed by movable and static parts connected with the possibility of moving the movable part of the handle relative to the static part and forming a space for placing at least the working part of the blade in its folded position, wherein the shank of the blade includes a shaped heel, the static part of the handle includes a recess, and the movable part of the handle includes a protruding element made with the possibility of placement in the recess on the static part of the handle and fixing the shaped heel of the blade in its unfolded position.
[0014] In addition, specific embodiments of the invention are provided, according to which:
[0015] - the movable and static parts of the handle are connected via at least one connecting element in the form of a hinged mount, or a flexible elastic element, or a rigid element,
[0016] - the connecting element is located along the back of the handle or along the end part of the handle on the movable and / or static parts of the handle or between them,
[0017] - the protruding element and the movable part of the handle are made as a single piece of homogeneous material or the protruding element is placed on the section of the movable part of the handle in the form of a cracker made of a harder material than the material of the movable part of the handle,
[0018] - the protruding element is designed with the possibility of adjusting its position on the movable part of the handle,
[0019] - the folding knife additionally includes a locking element, which is located on the static part of the handle or blade,
[0020] - the static and movable parts of the handle are closed by means of magnets, or a torsion spring, or a spring-bracket, or a flexible elastic element, or under the influence of the force of compression of the palm,
[0021] - the movable part of the handle contains a safety catch designed to lock the movable part of the closed handle in the unfolded position of the blade,
[0022] - the movable part and the static part of the handle are made in one piece or consist of several parts,
[0023] - the movable part of the handle is designed with the possibility of rotation around the axis of the connecting element or displacement along the connecting element.
[0024] Unlike its analogues, the handle of the claimed folding knife is formed by two parts, one of which is movable and contains a protruding element, the shape and size of which are designed to support the figured heel of the blade in its unfolded position and engage with the static part of the handle, for which the protruding element enters the corresponding recess on the static part of the handle. This design of the locking lock ensures the distribution of the load that occurs when attempting to fold the blade, which is in the unfolded position, in such a way that its impact will be directed to the cut of the protruding element, which enters the recess on the static part of the handle, and to the bend of the handle, which, with sufficient strength of the protruding element and the handle, ensures high reliability of fixation of the blade in the working (unfolded) position, allowing the use of the folding knife in a variety of applications, including those with high vertical loads on the folding knife during its use.
[0025] Simple and convenient cleaning of the folding knife from various types of dirt is ensured by the fact that the movable and static parts of the handle are separated by a sufficient distance from each other, which provides convenient access for the user to the necessary space for cleaning it. Timely cleaning of the folding knife from dirt also contributes to the reliability of the blade fixation. In a particular case of the invention, the section of the movable part of the handle (cracker) with a protruding element can be made of a more durable material, compared to the material of the handle, for example, hardened steel, which has increased wear resistance under load on the said element and strength to prevent its abrasion, which provides even greater reliability of blade fixation in the unfolded position, and also increases the service life of the folding knife. In addition, the said cracker can be made removable for the possibility of its replacement.
[0026] In addition, the protruding element on the movable part of the handle can be made with the ability to adjust its position, which simplifies the process of manufacturing a folding knife, since it allows for lower tolerances for accuracy in the production of folding knife parts, and also makes it possible to adjust the blade compression in the event of vertical play, which ensures ease of maintenance of the folding knife.
[0027] Also, in the particular case of the invention implementation, the design of the folding knife provides for the presence of a locking element to prevent the blade from turning to the non-working position.

[0060] Implementation of the invention
[0061] A folding knife according to the present invention comprises a blade (1) and a handle. The blade (1) of the folding knife includes a shank (16) (Fig. 1) with a figured heel (4), as well as a working part (13), which is a cutting edge or blade (Fig. 3). The figured heel (4) on the shank (16) of the blade (1) includes at least one upper and one stop face (21, 22). The blade (1) is hingedly attached to the static part (3) of the handle through an axial opening on the shank (16) and a fastening element (10) corresponding to the axial opening (Fig. 2). The blade (1) rotates around the axial opening with the fastening element (10) on the shank (16) in the plane of the folding knife (along the plane of the static part (3) of the handle). The blade (1) is preferably made of steel.
[0062] The handle is longitudinally divided into two parts (2, 3) connected to each other via a connecting element (5) and forming a space for placing the blade (1) or its working part (13) when folding the blade (1). One part (2) of the handle is movable relative to the other (static) (3), wherein the movement of the movable part (2) of the handle is performed, preferably, in a direction transverse to the plane of rotation of the blade (1). The movable part (2) and the static part (3) of the handle can be either one-piece or composed of several elements. For example, the static part (3) of the handle can consist of a connecting plate (23), a lining (17), an overlay, a cracker (26) and fasteners (Fig. 19, Fig. 20). In this case, a tie rod (17), made, for example, of steel, titanium or aircraft aluminum, and an overlay, which is the outer surface of the static part (3) of the handle, made, for example, of wood, textolite, aluminum, carbon or plastic, are attached to the connecting plate (23).The movable part (2) can also include a similar overlay. The solid parts (2,3) of the handle can also be made of various materials, such as metal (steel, titanium, aviation aluminum), hard plastic, textolite, carbon, wood.
[0063] The connection of the movable and static parts (2, 3) of the handle is provided through at least one connecting element (5), which can be a hinged fastening, or a flexible elastic element, or a solid element. The connecting element (5) can be located at any interval of the section from the beginning of the handle back (for example, Fig. 6 shows the horizontal position of the connecting element (5) along the handle back) to the end of the end part of the handle (for example, Fig. 1 shows the vertical position of the connecting element (5) along the end part of the handle) between the movable and static parts (2, 3) of the handle or on one of the said parts. Also, the connecting element (5) can consist of several parts, each of which can be located on different parts (2, 3) of the handle. In a particular case of implementation, when the connecting element (5) is a hinged fastening or a flexible elastic element, the movable part (2) of the handle rotates around the axis of the connecting element (5), and in the case when the connecting element (5) is a solid element, the movable part (2) of the handle moves along the said element in the direction from the static part (3) of the handle when unfolding the blade (1) (Fig. 15, Fig. 17) and in the direction to the static part (3) of the handle to implement the closed position of the handle parts (Fig. 16). In a particular case of implementation, in which the movable part (2) of the handle consists of several parts, there may also be several connecting elements (5).
[0064] When unfolding the blade (1), the static (3) and movable (2) parts of the handle can be closed by means of magnets (19) (Fig. 18, Fig. 19), which can be located on both parts (2, 3) of the handle; a torsion spring or a spring-bracket (not shown) can also be provided for the above purposes. In addition, the closing of the parts (2, 3) is possible under the influence of a flexible elastic element with a corresponding design of the connecting element (5). In the basic design of the folding knife, the closing of the parts (2, 3) of the handle is carried out by the user under the influence of the force of compression of the palm.
[0065] The locking mechanism of the claimed design of the folding knife is implemented as follows: the protruding element (7) of the movable part (2) of the handle enters the recess (8) located on the static part (3) of the handle, in the unfolded position of the blade (1), providing in this position support for the figured heel (4) of the blade, having a shape and size corresponding to the protruding element (7), which limits the movement of the blade (1) for its folding (Fig. 5).
[0066] In the folded position of the blade (1), its working part (13) is located in the handle between the parts (2, 3) forming it, while the protruding element (7) enters the groove (6) located on the blade (1) or is located above the working part (13) of the blade (1). The said groove (6) can be made with an inclination relative to the plane of the blade at an angle from 90° to 170°, corresponding to the sliding trajectory of the protruding element (7) when unfolding the blade (1) with one hand.
[0067] The folding knife may additionally include a locking element (11), which may be located on the static part (3) of the handle or on the blade (1). In the case where the locking element (11) is located on the static part (3) of the handle, the blade (1) must include at least one recess (12) on the tang (16) corresponding to the diameter and location of the locking element (11) to ensure the function of resting on the locking element (11) both in the unfolded position of the blade (1) and in the folded position (Fig. 6). In this case, the said recess (12) may be made in the form of an arcuate groove or opening on the blade (1), or there may be two recesses (12), located in such a way as to rest against the locking element (11) in the folded or unfolded positions of the blade (1). In the case where the locking element (11) is located on the blade (1), then the recesses corresponding to the dimensions of the locking element (11) are located on the static part (3) of the handle.
[0068] The protruding element (7) and the movable part (2) of the handle can be made as a single piece of homogeneous material, or the protruding element (7) can be placed on a section of the movable part (2) of the handle, which is a cracker (9) made of a harder material than the material of the movable part (2) of the handle, preferably, of hardened steel. In this case, the protruding element (7) can be made with the possibility of adjusting its position to eliminate the vertical play of the blade (1) formed during long-term use of the folding knife.
[0069] The adjustment of the position of the protruding element (7) can be carried out due to the shape of the protruding element (7), in which the angle between the lateral sides of the protruding element (7) is up to no more than 70° (Fig. 11), wherein the section formed by the stop face (22) of the figured heel (4) of the blade (1) and the face of the recess (8) on the static part (3) of the handle repeat this shape of the protruding element (7). In such a case, the relative displacement of the protruding element (7) and the section formed on one side by the stop face (22) of the figured heel (4) of the blade (1) and on the other side by the face of the recess (8) on the static part (3) of the handle, ensures a position in which the protruding element (7) enters into tight engagement with the above-mentioned faces. Also, between the protruding element (7) and the main area of the movable part (2) of the handle, an additional recess (20) can be located, and from the narrow area of the movable part (2) of the handle, a hole is provided for a screw, passing through the additional recess (20) into the main area of the movable part (2) of the handle. In the hole on the side of the main area of the movable part (2) of the handle, a thread for a screw is provided. A screw, the head of which is located on the side of the narrow area of the movable part (2) of the handle, must be inserted into the hole. By screwing in the screw passing through both of the specified areas of the movable part of the handle, the user can, if necessary, adjust the position of the protruding element (7), moving it upward, eliminating the formed play of the blade (1) (Fig. 12).
[0070] Also, the blade play can be eliminated without manual intervention by the user, in which case the upper edge (21) of the blade heel should have an inclination relative to the plane of the blade from 90 to 140° (Fig. 14), while the protruding element (7) has the ability to shift up or down in the space formed by the additional recess (20) due to the elastic deformation of the narrow part of the movable part (2) of the handle. At the moment when the parts (2, 3) of the handle close in the unfolded position of the blade (1), the protruding element (7), due to contact with the upper edge (21) of the figured heel (4) of the blade (1), shifts downwards and enters the section formed by the stop edge (22) of the figured heel (4) of the blade (1) and the edge of the recess (8) on the static part (3) of the handle. Having entered the specified section, the protruding element (7) is pressed upward due to the elastic deformation of the narrow part of the movable part (2) of the handle, eliminating the possibility of vertical play of the blade (1) (Fig. 13).
[0071] The cracker (9) can be attached to the movable part (2) of the handle using fasteners (18) with the possibility of replacing it (Fig. 7, Fig. 8, Fig. 10), or using a permanent connection, for example, soldering, welding. In this case, the holes in the movable part (2) of the handle for the fasteners (18), with the help of which the cracker (9) is attached to the movable part (2) of the handle, can have a diameter larger compared to the diameter of the fasteners (18). The difference in diameters provides a reserve for the possibility of shifting the location of the cracker (9) with the protruding element (7) relative to the movable part (2) of the handle. Also, on the movable part (2) of the handle, for the possibility of self-adjustment of the position of the cracker (9) with the protruding element (7), it is possible to have a spring, which will act on the cracker (9), lifting its part with the protruding element (7) upward.
[0072] The movable part (2) of the handle may contain a safety catch (15) that ensures fixation of the said part of the closed handle in the unfolded position of the blade (1). For this purpose, the safety catch (15) may contain a spring and a locking element that enters an additional groove (14) on the shank (16) of the blade (1) when this element is rotated or shifted towards the shank (16) of the blade (1) manually. The functions of the safety catch may also be performed by a protruding element (7). The design may also provide for additional optional elements. For example, for the convenience of attaching the folding knife to the user's clothing, a clip (28) may be provided (Fig. 19). The clip (28) should be understood as a quick-release fastener that allows the folding knife to be quickly fixed on the upper edge of the pocket with a top-down movement, and removed with a bottom-up movement. On the spine of the blade tang (1) and the back of the static part of the handle on the side of the blade tang (17) notches (27) may be provided for better grip with the said surfaces when using the folding knife (Fig. 19). A recess (24) (choil) may also be provided in the lower part of the blade (1) (Fig. 18), which serves to place the index finger on it during a normal grip, to facilitate the work being performed.
[0073] The proposed folding knife works as follows.
[0074] In order to unfold the folding knife, the user holds the handle of the folding knife with one hand, while shifting the movable part of the handle (2), for example, with the thumb of the holding hand, so that the protruding element (7) does not block the movement of the blade (1) when it is unfolded, and with the other hand turns the blade (1) until it stops against the handle or until the notch (12) stops in the locking element (11), if any. If there is a groove (6) on the blade, which is made with an inclination relative to the plane of the blade, in order to unfold the folding knife, the user holds the handle of the folding knife with one hand, and pressing with the thumb of the same hand on the end flipper (29) (Fig. 21) with notches (27) on the spine of the blade (1) from the side of the tang (16), turns the blade (1) until it stops against the handle or until the notch (12) stops in the locking element (I), if any. After which the movable and static parts (2, 3) of the handle are closed, for example, by means of magnets (19) (Fig.18), located on the static and movable parts (2, 3) of the handle, wherein the protruding element (7) on the movable part (2) of the handle enters the recess (8) on the static part (3) of the handle and supports the heel (4) of the blade (1), which reliably fixes the position of the blade (1) in the unfolded state.
[0075] If the folding knife design has a safety catch (15) in the particular case of implementing it, after unfolding the blade (1), the user shifts the safety catch (15) in such a way that its locking element enters the additional groove (14) on the tang (16) of the blade (1), thereby fixing the movable part (2) of the handle in a position in which the static and movable parts (2,3) of the handle are closed, which ensures protection against unwanted folding of the blade due to unintentional displacement of the movable part (2) of the handle. Before folding the blade (1), the user shifts the safety catch (15) to the opposite position in order to release the tang (16) of the blade (1) from the locking element and ensure movement of the movable part (2) of the handle.
[0076] In order to fold the blade (1), the user separates the closed parts (2, 3) of the handle with one hand, for example, using the notch (25) on the movable part (2) of the handle, as a result of which the movable part (2) of the handle shifts and stops resting on the heel (4) of the blade (1), and the protruding element (7) comes out of the recess (8) on the static part (3) of the handle. After which the user turns the blade (1) until it stops at the back of the handle, and leans the movable part (2) of the handle against the blade (1). It should be noted that the above-described examples of implementation are not strict limitations on the execution of the folding knife design.
[0077] Thus, the proposed design of a folding knife with a unique locking mechanism ensures reliable fixation of the blade in its unfolded position while maintaining the simplicity of the process of cleaning the folding knife from dirt.
