Description

COMPOSITION FOR MAKING UP KERATIN MATERIALSTECHNICAL FIELD

[0001] The present invention relates to a composition. Preferably, the present invention relates to a composition for making up keratin materials. The present invention also relates to a process for making up keratin materials.BACKGROUND ART

[0002] The skin is not a smooth surface of uniform color and has reliefs or at least micro-reliefs such as pores, wrinkles, fine lines, spots, scars, and dry areas, which form a somewhat bumpy surface. Further, the complexion is not always satisfactory, e.g., a dull appearance.

[0003] Cosmetic compositions, for example foundations, are commonly used to give the skin an esthetic color, and to enhance the beauty of irregular skin, by making it possible to hide marks and dyschromia, to reduce the visibility of relief imperfections, such as pores and wrinkles, and to conceal spots and acne marks.

[0004] With the development of color cosmetic and high-quality demands of consumers, functions of makeup products, e.g., long wearing makeup effect, moderate glow effect (not high glow even oily shine and not little glow even matte) , and good freshness, become more and more important for the cosmetic products, including foundations. However, for some cosmetic products, the long wearing makeup effect is often achieved in oil-controlling formulations, which leads to a little glow even matte effect. For other cosmetic products, the moderate glow effect can be achieved but the freshness is not so good. Thus, there are challenges to achieve a long wearing makeup effect, a moderate glow effect, and a good freshness in one formulation.

[0005] Therefore, there is a need for a composition, e.g., as a foundation, which can deliver a long wearing makeup effect with a moderate glow effect and a good freshness.SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0006] The inventors have found that such a need can be achieved by the composition according to the present invention.

[0007] According to a first aspect, the present invention provides a composition, preferably for making up keratin materials, comprising:

[0008] (a) at least one MQ resin;

[0009] (b) at least one hydrophobic silica;

[0010] (c) at least one silicone oil having a refractive index of at least 1.40; and

[0011] (d) at least 25 wt. %of at least one aqueous solvent, relative to the total weight of the composition.

[0012] The composition according to the present invention can deliver a long wearing makeup effect with a moderate glow effect and a good freshness.

[0013] According to a second aspect, the present invention provides a process for making up keratin materials, preferably the skin, comprising:

[0014] applying the composition according to the first aspect onto the keratin materials.

[0019] Unless otherwise specified, all numerical values expressing amount of ingredients and the like used in the description and claims are to be understood as being modified by the term “about” . Accordingly, unless indicated to the contrary, the numerical values and  parameters described herein are approximate values which are capable of being changed according to the desired performance obtained as required. The term “about” denoting a certain value is intended to denote a range within±5%of the value, e.g., ±3%, ±2%, ±1%,and±0.5%of the value.

[0020] As used herein, the term “keratin material (s) ” refers to the skin and the lip. By “skin” , it includes all the body skins, including the scalp. Preferably, the keratin material (s) means the skin, especially the face.

[0021] MQ resin

[0022] The composition according to the present invention comprises at least one MQ Resin.

[0023] The term “resin” is intended to mean a compound of which the structure is three-dimensional. The letter “M” represents the monofunctional unit of formula R1R2R3SiO1 / 2, the silicon atom being bonded to only one oxygen atom in the polymer comprising this unit, R1, R2, and R3, independently of each other, represents a hydrocarbon-based group containing from 1 to 10 carbon atoms; and the letter “Q” means a tetrafunctional unit SiO4 / 2 in which the silicon atom is bonded to four oxygen atoms, which are themselves bonded to the rest of the polymer.

[0024] Preferably, the MQ resin has the formula (I) as below [ (R1) 3SiO1 / 2] x (SiO4 / 2) y   (I)

[0025] wherein x and y, independently of each other, range from 20 to 200, preferably from 30 to 150, and more preferably from 35 to 80, including all ranges and subranges therebetween; and R1 represents a hydrocarbon-based group containing from 1 to 10 carbon atoms, and is preferably an alkyl containing from 1 to 8 carbon atoms, and more preferably a methyl.

[0026] Non-limiting examples of acceptable MQ resins are described in U.S. Pat. No. 5,330,747. Preferably, the MQ resin has an M: Q ratio ranging from 0.5 to 0.8, preferably from 0.6 to 0.7.

[0027] More preferably, the MQ resins in accordance with the present invention is chosen from trimethylsiloxysilicate, which may be represented by the following formula (Ia) : [ (CH3) 3SiO1 / 2] x (SiO4 / 2) y   (Ia)

[0028] wherein x and y, independently of each other, range from 20 to 200, preferably from 30 to 150, and more preferably from 35 to 80, including all ranges and subranges therebetween.

[0029] Trimethylsiloxysilicate, which is available from Wacker, General Electric and Dow Corning, is an example of an acceptable commercially-available MQ resin. For example, trimethylsiloxysilicate (TMS) is commercially available from General Electric under the tradename SR1000 or from Wacker under the tradename TMS 803. Mention may be made of the trimethylsiloxysilicate resins marketed in a solvent such as cyclomethicone, sold under the name KF-7312J by the company Shin-Etsu, and DC 749 and DC 593 by the company Dow Corning. However, according to the present invention, TMS is preferably used in the form of 100%active material, that is, not in a solvent.

[0030] MQ resin may also be phenylalkylsiloxysilicate resins, such as phenylpropyldimethylsiloxysilicate, especially sold under the name Silshine 151 by the company General Electric. The preparation of such resins is described especially in patent U.S. Pat. No. 5,817,302.

[0031] Advantageously, the MQ resin is present in an amount ranging from 0.1 wt. %to 30 wt.%, preferably from 1 wt. %to 25 wt. %, more preferably 3 wt. %to 25 wt. %, even more preferably from 5 wt. %to 20 wt. %, even more preferably from 6 wt. %to 20 wt. %, and most preferably from 7 wt. %to 15 wt. %, relative to the total weight of the composition.

[0032] Hydrophobic silica

[0033] The composition according to the present invention comprises at least one hydrophobic silica.

[0034] The term "hydrophobic silica" is understood to mean, in the context of the present invention, both pure hydrophobic silicas and particles coated with hydrophobic silica.

[0035] In one instance, the hydrophobic silicas which can be used in the composition of the invention are amorphous and of fumed origin. They are preferably provided in the pulverulent form.

[0036] The amorphous hydrophobic silicas of fumed origin are obtained from hydrophilic silicas. The latter are obtained by pyrolysis of silicon tetrachloride (SiCl4) in a continuous flame at 1000℃ in the presence of hydrogen and oxygen. They are subsequently rendered hydrophobic by treatment with halogenated silanes, alkoxysilanes or silazanes. The hydrophobic silicas differ from the starting hydrophilic silicas, inter alia, in a lower density of silanol and in a smaller adsorption of water vapor.

[0037] In this instance, the hydrophobic silica is preferably selected from silicas having a specific surface of from 50 to 500 m2 / g and a number-average particle size ranging from 3  to 50 nm. These are more particularly the hydrophobic silicas described in the following Table 1, and their mixtures.

[0038] Table 1

[0039] In this instance, the hydrophobic silica used in the composition of the invention can also consist of a particle completely or partially covered with silica, in particular of an inorganic particle completely or partially covered with hydrophobic silica, such as pigments and metal oxides covered with hydrophobic silica.

[0040] Use is preferably made, as hydrophobic silica, of a hydrophobic fumed silica treated at the surface with a dimethylsiloxane, such as that sold under the name Aerosil R972 (INCI name: Silica Dimethyl Silylate) by Evonik Degussa.

[0041] In another instance, the hydrophobic silica which can be used in the composition of the invention are aerogel particles of hydrophobic silica exhibiting a specific surface per unit of weight (SW) ranging from 500 to 1500 m2 / g and a size, expressed as volume-average diameter (D [0.5] , also known as median particle size by volume Dv50) , ranging from 1 to 1500μm.

[0042] Silica aerogels are porous materials obtained by replacing (by drying) the liquid component of a silica gel with air.

[0043] They are generally synthesized via a sol-gel process in a liquid medium and then dried, usually by extraction of a supercritical fluid, the one most commonly used being supercritical CO2. This type of drying makes it possible to avoid shrinkage of the pores and of the material. The sol-gel process and the various drying operations are described in detail in Brinker C.J. and Scherer G.W., Sol-Gel Science: New York: Academic Press, 1990.

[0044] The aerogel particles of hydrophobic silica used in the present invention exhibit a specific surface per unit of weight (SW) ranging from 500 to 1500 m2 / g, preferably from 600 to 1200 m2 / g and more preferably from 600 to 800 m2 / g, and a size, expressed as volume-average diameter (D [0.5] , also known as median particle size by volume Dv50) , ranging from 1 to 1500μm, preferably from 1 to 1000μm, more preferably from 1 to 100  μm, more preferably from 1 to 30μm, still more preferably from 5 to 25μm, even more preferably from 5 to 20μm and most preferably from 5 to 15μm.

[0045] In one instance, the aerogel particles of hydrophobic silica used in the present invention exhibit a size, expressed as volume-average diameter (D [0.5] , also known as median particle size by volume Dv50) , ranging from 1 to 30μm, preferably from 5 to 25 μm, more preferably from 5 to 20μm and even more preferably from 5 to 15μm.

[0046] The specific surface per unit of weight can be determined by the nitrogen absorption method, known as the BET (Brunauer-Emmett-Teller) method, described in The Journal of the American Chemical Society, Vol. 60, page 309, February 1938, and corresponding to the international standard ISO 5794 / 1 (appendix D) . The BET specific surface corresponds to the total specific surface of the particles under consideration. The sizes of the aerogel silica particles can be measured by static light scattering using a commercial particle size analyser of MasterSizer 2000 type from Malvern. The data are processed on the basis of the Mie scattering theory. This theory, which is exact for isotropic particles, makes it possible to determine, in the case of non-spherical particles, an "effective" particle diameter. This theory is described in particular in the publication by Van de Hulst, H. C., "Light Scattering by Small Particles" , Chapters 9 and 10, Wiley, New York, 1957.

[0047] Preferably, the aerogel particles of hydrophobic silica used in the present invention exhibit a specific surface per unit of weight (SW) ranging from 600 to 800 m2 / g and a size, expressed as volume-average diameter (D [0.5] , also known as median particle size by volume Dv50) , ranging from 5 to 20μm and preferably from 5 to 15μm.

[0048] The aerogel silica particles used in the present invention can advantageously exhibit a packed density (ρ) ranging from 0.04 g / cm3 to 0.10 g / cm3 and preferably from 0.05 g / cm3 to 0.08 g / cm3.

[0049] In the context of the present invention, this density, known as the packed density, can be assessed according to the following protocol:

[0050] 40 g of powder are poured into a graduated measuring cylinder; the measuring cylinder is then placed on the Stav 2003 device from Stampf Volumeter; the measuring cylinder is subsequently subjected to a series of 2500 packing actions (this operation is repeated until the difference in volume between two consecutive tests is less than 2%) ; the final volume Vf of packed powder is then measured directly on the measuring cylinder. The packed density is determined by the ratio w / Vf, in the case in point 40 / Vf (Vfbeing expressed in cm3 and w in g) .

[0051] In one instance, the aerogel particles of hydrophobic silica used in the present invention exhibit a specific surface per unit of volume SV ranging from 5 to 60 m2 / cm3, preferably from 10 to 50 m2 / cm3 and more preferably from 15 to 40 m2 / cm3.

[0052] The specific surface per unit of volume is given by the relationship: SV = SW x ρwhere ρ is the packed density, expressed in g / cm3, and SW is the specific surface per unit of weight, expressed in m2 / g, as defined above.

[0053] Preferably, the aerogel particles of hydrophobic silica according to the invention have an oil absorption capacity, measured at the wet point, ranging from 5 to 18 ml / g, preferably from 6 to 15 ml / g and more preferably from 8 to 12 ml / g.

[0054] The absorption capacity measured at the wet point, denoted Wp, corresponds to the amount of oil which it is necessary to add to 100 g of particles in order to obtain a homogeneous paste.

[0055] It is measured according to the "wet point" method or method for determining the oil uptake of a powder described in Standard NF T 30-022. It corresponds to the amount of oil adsorbed onto the available surface of the powder and / or absorbed by the powder by measurement of the wet point, described below:

[0056] An amount w=2 g of powder is placed on a glass plate, and the oil (isononyl isononanoate) is then added dropwise. After addition of 4 to 5 drops of oil to the powder, mixing is carried out using a spatula, and addition of oil is continued until conglomerates of oil and powder have formed. From this point, the oil is added at the rate of one drop at a time and the mixture is subsequently triturated with the spatula. The addition of oil is stopped when a firm and smooth paste is obtained. This paste must be able to be spread on the glass plate without cracking or forming lumps. The weight (expressed in g) of oil used is then noted.

[0057] The oil uptake corresponds to the ratio g / g.

[0058] The aerogels used according to the present invention are hydrophobic silica aerogels, preferably of silylated silica (INCI name: silica silylate) .

[0059] The term "hydrophobic silica" is understood to mean any silica whose surface is treated with silylating agents, for example with halogenated silanes, such as alkylchlorosilanes, siloxanes, in particular dimethylsiloxanes, such as hexamethyldisiloxane, or silazanes, so as to functionalize the OH with silyl Si-Rn, for example trimethylsilyl.

[0060] As regards the preparation of aerogel particles of hydrophobic silica modified at the surface by silylation, reference may be made to the document US 7 470 725.

[0061] Preferably, the hydrophobic silica used in the composition of the invention is aerogel particles of hydrophobic silica modified at the surface with trimethylsilyl (trimethylsiloxylated silica) .

[0062] Mention may be made, as hydrophobic silica aerogels which can be used in the invention, for example, of the aerogel sold under the name VM-2260 (INCI name: silica silylate) by Dow Corning, the particles of which exhibit an average size of approximately 1000μm and a specific surface per unit of weight ranging from 600 to 800 m2 / g.

[0241] The wearing makeup effect was evaluated by the weight loss of the foundation film after being placed for half an hour and six hours respectively. The less weight loss of the foundation composition, the better of the wearing makeup effect, and vice versa. When the weight loss (0.5 h) ≤0.1g or weight loss (6 h) ≤0.05g, the composition is deemed as one with long wear makeup effect.

[0242] The weight loss (0.5 h) and weight loss (6 h) for evaluating the wearing makeup effect of each composition were summarized in Table 5.

[0243] Table 5

[0244] Test of freshness effect

[0245] Five panelists were invited to evaluate the freshness effect. Specifically, each panelist applied the composition of Inventive Example 1 on face with the same and daily amount, and then gave scores (1 to 5) . The higher of the score, the better of the freshness effect, and vice versa. For the composition of Inventive Example 1, the final scores were averaged and ranked according to the following criteria:

[0246] Freshness:

[0247] 4≤Scores≤5: watery fresh;

[0248] 3≤Scores<4: little fresh;

[0249] 2≤Scores<3: little oily;

[0250] 1≤Scores<2: oily.

[0251] The freshness score of the composition of Inventive Example 1 is 4.0.

[0252] It can be seen that only the composition of Inventive Example 1, comprising an MQ resin, a hydrophobic silica, a silicone oil having a refractive index of at least 1.40, and at least 25 wt. %of an aqueous solvent, relative to the total weight of the composition, can simultaneously obtain a long wearing makeup effect, a desirable glow effect and a good freshness effect.

[0253] In this way, the composition according to the present invention can simultaneously provide a long wearing makeup effect, a desirable glow effect, i.e., moderate glow effect, and a good freshness effect.
