Description

METHOD FOR CHANNEL STATE INFORMATION (CSI) FEEDBACK BASED ON MULTIPLE CSI-REFERENCE SIGNAL (CSI-RS) RESOURCES FOR NETWORK ENERGY SAVING

[0001] FIELD OF THE DISCLOSURE

[0002] This document generally describes methods and devices operating in wireless communication systems such as (but not limited to) the ones described in 5G standard documents, known as 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) communication systems.BACKGROUND

[0003] This background description is provided for the purpose of generally presenting the context of the disclosure and the technical problems. Work of the presently named inventors, to the extent it is described in this background section, as well as aspects of the description that may not otherwise qualify as prior art at the time of filing, are neither expressly nor impliedly admitted as prior art against the present disclosure.

[0004] In wireless communications, channel state information (CSI) is a measurement report related to a wireless communication channel between a transmitter (e.g., a base station (BS) ) and a receiver (e.g., a user equipment (UE) ) . The CSI characterizes the behavior / quality of the wireless channel between the BS and UE by including factors such as signal strength, signal-to-noise ratio, fading, interference, and more. For Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) systems, the CSI can provide information for a network entity (NE, which is considered in this document to be any part or parts of the core network (CN) , BS, or a combination of CN and BS) to select the digital precoder for a UE.

[0005] Traditionally, the NE can configure a CSI report using radio resource control (RRC) signaling, e.g., CSI-ReportConfig, where a CSI reference signal (CSI-RS) resource is used as channel measurement resource (CMR) for the UE to measure the  downlink channel. The NE entity may also configure some interference measurement resource (IMR) for UE to measure interference.

[0006] Based on the configured CMR and its associated IMR, the UE is able to determine the CSI, which may include at least one of rank indicator (RI) , precoder matrix indicator (PMI) , channel quality indicator (CQI) , and layer indicator (LI) . RI and PMI are used to indicate the digital precoder, CQI is used to indicate the signal-to-interference plus noise (SINR) status in order to assist the network entity to determine the modulation and coding scheme (MCS) , and LI is used to identify the strongest layer for the reported precoder indicated by RI and PMI.

[0007] However, the existing CSI configurations and reporting were not designed for network energy saving (NES) situations when the CSI is based on multiple CSI-RS resources.SUMMARY

[0008] To improve cell coverage and spectrum efficiency, the NE may transmit downlink signals associated with multiple CSI-RS resources, i.e., from more than the 32 antenna ports associated with a single CSI-RS resource. There are currently no established methods for performing and reporting a CSI from multiple CSI-RS resources with regard to network energy saving (NES) .

[0009] For addressing CSI feedback from multiple CSI-RS resources with regard to NES, the NE and UE may configure one or more of a type 1, spatial-domain NES, SD-NES, type 2 SD-NES, and power domain NES, PD-NES. For example, the NE and UE may configure type 1 SD-NES based on multiple CSI-RS report sub-configurations and a configuration of a port index; configure type 2 SD-NES based on multiple CSI-RS report sub-configurations and a configuration of a CSI-resource list; and configure PD-NES based on multiple CSI-RS report sub-configurations and a configuration of an additional power offset. A CSI processing unit (CPU) occupancy rule may also be used for CSI reporting based on multiple CSI-RS resources from more than 32 configured antenna ports.BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

[0022] Methods and devices described in this section embody techniques related to CSI measurement and reporting based on two or more CSI-RS resources. The embodiment descriptions in this section refer to the accompanying drawings. The same reference numbers in different drawings identify the same or similar elements. The detailed descriptions do preclude other embodiments within the scope of the appended claims. The embodiments are not limited to the described configurations but may be extended to other arrangements.

[0023] Reference throughout this section to “one embodiment” or “an embodiment” means that a particular feature, structure, or characteristic described in connection with an embodiment is included in at least one embodiment. Thus, the appearances of the phrases “in one embodiment” or “in an embodiment” in various places throughout the specification are not necessarily all referring to the same embodiment. Further, the particular features, structures or characteristics may be combined in any suitable manner in one or more embodiments.

[0024] Currently, the NE can transmit the CSI-RS related to 32 antenna ports

[0025] (referred simply as ports in this disclosure) by one CSI-RS resource. The NE traditionally configures the UE to measure and report CSI based on (1) a codebook, e.g., type 1 single-panel codebook as defined in 3GPP Technical Specification (TS) 38.214 or type 1 multi-panel codebook as also defined in TS 38.214, and (2) a single CSI-RS resource. For each polarization from one panel, the UE may be able to select a beam for a corresponding layer, as shown in FIG 1A, where the number of beams is based on the number of horizontal antenna ports (N1) , number of vertical antenna ports (N2) , oversampling factor for horizontal beams (O1) , and oversampling factor for vertical beams (O2) . The values of N1, N2, O1, and O2 are configured by the NE via RRC  signaling. FIG. 1A shows a 4x4 antenna ports structure 100 in which a beam 110 is selected for layer 1 and a beam 112 is selected for layer 2. More beams and corresponding layers may be selected.

[0026] For the type 1 single-panel codebook, for each layer, the UE reports the precoder indicating the antenna co-phasing between two polarizations, where a precoder for a layer can be as follows:

[0027] where vl, m indicates the beam for each polarization, and indicates the antenna co-phasing between two polarizations. In one example, the antenna co-phasing is as follows:

[0028] For type 1 multi-panel codebook, for each layer, the UE reports the precoder indicating the antenna co-phasing between two polarizations and also an antenna co-phasing between two panels. For Ng panels based multi-panel codebook, the UE may report Ng-1 antenna co-phasing. For two-panel based codebook, in one example, the precoder for a layer can be as follows:

[0029] The NE can trigger the UE to provide multiple CSI reports corresponding to multiple CSI report configurations by Physical Uplink Shared Channel (PUSCH) or long physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) , that is, PUCCH with more than 4 symbols. The UE may report the CSI-RS resource indicator (CRI) , RI, and the CQI for the first codeword by CSI part 1, and report the PMI, LI, and CQI for the second codeword, by the CSI part 2. The payload size for the PMI, LI, and CQI for the second codeword in CSI part 2 is determined based on the reported RI in CSI part 1. The UE transmits the CSI part 1 and CSI part 2 by different resource elements on PUSCH or long PUCCH.

[0030] For network energy saving (NES) , the NE may configure a list of L (e.g., L>1) CSI sub-configurations (e.g., CSI-ReportSubConfig) in a CSI report configuration  (e.g., CSI-ReportConfig) , and the NE can trigger the UE to report N (1≤N≤L) CSI sub-reports corresponding to N CSI sub-configurations. For spatial domain-NES (SD-NES) , the NE may configure the CSI report configuration as a type 1 SD-NES or a type 2 SD-NES.

[0031] For the type 1 SD-NES, the NE configures the CSI-RS resources as CMR in a CSI report configuration, and configures a port subset indicator (e.g., port-subsetIndicator) in each CSI sub-configuration, which indicates the subset of antenna ports for each of the configured CSI-RS resources for CSI report. The UE calculates the CSI for each CSI sub-configuration based on the indicated subset of antenna ports for each of the CSI-RS resources configured in the CSI report configuration.

[0032] For the type 2 SD-NES, the NE configures the CSI-RS resources as CMR in a CSI report configuration and configures a list of CSI-RS resource index (es) indicating a subset of the CSI-RS resources (e.g., nzp-CSI-RS-resourceList) in each CSI sub-configuration. The UE calculates the CSI for each CSI sub-configuration based on the subset of CSI-RS resources.

[0033] For power domain-NES (PD-NES) , the NE configures the CSI-RS resources as CMR in a CSI report configuration, a first power offset between the PDSCH and CSI-RS for each CSI-RS resource, and an additional power offset (e.g., powerOffset) between the PDSCH and CSI-RS in each CSI sub-configuration. The UE calculates the CSI for each CSI sub-configuration based on the total power offset (the first power offset and the second power offset) .

[0034] The NE can configure the CSI report configuration for each of the SD-NES or PD-NES or for both of them. FIG. 1B illustrates one example for the control signaling for CSI report for SD-NES and PD-NES. The figure shows a CSI report configuration 140 including Ks CSI-RS resources. The CSI report configuration 140 includes L CSI report sub-configurations. The CSI report 150 includes N CSI sub-reports, which correspond to CSI report sub-configurations. Note that each CSI report 150 uses a single CSI-RS resource out of the Ks CSI-RS resources for CSI measurements.

[0035] To improve the cell coverage and spectrum efficiency (SE) , the NE may transmit the downlink signals from more than 32 antenna ports, e.g., 128 ports. Then the NE configures the UE to measure and report CSI based on CSI-RS from more than  32 antenna ports. According to an embodiment, the NE configures the UE with a configuration signal, which is discussed later, to report a CSI based on multiple CSI-RS resources. In one example, the NE may configure K CSI-RS resources, each with 32 ports, for a CSI measurement, and report based on a K·128 ports codebook, where K is larger than 1. Then, when the NE configures the UE to report the CSI based on multiple CSI-RS resources from different antenna ports, there are various ways of configuring and reporting the CSI with regard to the SD-NES and PD-NES types noted above.

[0036] Thus, the following embodiments describe various methods for CSI reporting based on multiple CSI-RS resources from different antenna ports with regard to NES. The reporting, as discussed later in more detail, may be based on a configuration of a port subset indicator, or port subset indicator and CSI-RS resource list indicator for type 1 SD-NES, a configuration of a CSI-RS resource list indicator for type 2 SD-NES, and / or a configuration of an additional power offset for PD-NES. Each of these possibilities is discussed later.

[0037] In one embodiment, which may be combined with each of the above embodiments, a CPU occupancy rule is introduced for the CSI report based on multiple CSI-RS resources from different antenna ports and a list of CSI-RS resource sub-configurations.

[0038] Prior to discussing the various methods for CSI reporting based on multiple CSI-RS resources, a wireless communication system 200, as illustrated in FIG. 2, which includes the NE and UE noted above, is introduced. The UE 210, sometimes in collaboration with the NE 220, uses the techniques described in this section for reporting at least one CSI from multiple CSI-RS resources.

[0039] The wireless communication system 200 shown in FIG. 2 includes a UE 210 and a NE 220 (only one of each is shown for simplicity, but one skilled in the art would understand that many such elements may be present) communicating wirelessly through a wireless communication channel 201. NE 220 may be any element of the BS or RAN or CN or a combination of them. NE 220 and UE 210 may include additional functions and interfaces omitted from the figure in the interest of brevity. Signaling channel 201 generally represents both uplink signals (from the UE to the NE) and downlink signals (from the NE to the UE) .

[0040] NE 220 may provide the functionality of a gNB (e.g., a 5G or 6G base station) or perform various other CN functions. NE 220’s functionality may be distributed across multiple entities (e.g., a central unit, CU, a distributed unit, DU, and a radio unit, RU (not shown) if the NE is the BS) . When NE 220 is the BS, it includes one or more antennas, an RF front end 221 and a transceiver 222 for communicating with UE 210 and other UEs and NEs. NE 220’s antennas and RF front end 221 can be tuned to one or more frequency bands (e.g., subcarriers) , for example as defined by 3GPP Long Term Evolution (LTE) , 5G new radio (NR) , and 6G communication standards and implemented by transceiver 222.

[0041] NE 220 further includes processor (s) 223 and computer-readable storage media (CRSM) 224. Processor (s) 223 can include single or multiple-core processors, and CRSM 224 includes any suitable memory / storage except propagating signals. For example, memory / storage can include random-access memory (RAM) , static RAM (SRAM) , dynamic RAM (DRAM) , non-volatile RAM (NVRAM) , read-only memory (ROM) , and / or flash memory. CRSM 224 stores device data 225, which includes network scheduling data, radio resource management data, applications, and / or an operating system, which are executable by processor (s) 223 to enable wireless communication 201 with UE 210 as well as with other NEs and UEs.

[0042] CRSM 224 also stores a CSI configuration manager 226. CSI configuration manager 226 causes UE 210 to configure the CSI report based on various factors, which are discussed later. Due to the availability of the CSI measured from multiple CSI-RS resources, various methods are implemented in this embodiment in the CSI configuration manager 226 for addressing type 1 SD-NES, type 2 SD-NES, and PD-NES. CSI configuration manager 226 is either preconfigured to implement the above methods, or uses a set of rules or, based on prior communications with the UE, determines how to configure the CSI feedback. The CSI configuration manager 226 may instruct the UE to use one or more of the available CSI report sub-configurations.

[0043] UE 210 may be any user computing device, for example, a smartphone. UE includes antennas connected to an RF front end 211, and a transceiver. The transceiver may be an LTE transceiver 212, a 5G NR transceiver 213, or another transceiver 214. Although FIG. 2 shows three transceivers being present in the UE 210, one skilled in the  art would understand that, while at least one transceiver is present, more than one transceiver being present is optional. The antennas and RF front end 211 can be tuned to one or more frequency bands (e.g., subcarriers) , for example, as defined by 3GPP LTE, 5G NR, and 6G communication standards and implemented by respective transceivers. UE 210 also includes one or more precoders 215, one or more processor (s) 216, and computer-readable storage media (CRSM) 217. Processor (s) 216 may be single or multiple-core processors, and CRSM 217 includes any suitable memory / storage other than propagating signals. For example, memory / storage can include RAM, SRAM, DRAM, NVRAM, ROM, and / or flash memory. CRSM 217 stores device data 218 necessary for UE’s communications. The CRSM 217 may also include a CSI configuration manager 219.

[0044] CSI configuration manager 219 is configured to implement the CSI measurement and reporting noted above. CSI configuration manager 219 is either preconfigured to implement the CSI feedback, or uses a set of rules or, based on prior communications with the NE, determines which CSI reporting to implement.

[0045] FIG. 3 illustrates, according to an embodiment, a procedure for CSI feedback based on multiple CSI-RS resources from different antenna port (s) and a list of CSI report sub-configuration (s) . The UE may optionally report 302 the UE capabilities indicating the supported configuration of CSI report based on CSI-RS resources from different antenna ports with configured CSI sub-configurations. The UE may report at least one of the following UE capabilities: whether it supports CSI feedback based on multiple CSI-RS resources from different antenna ports, e.g., CSI feedback based on more than 32 ports, and a list of CSI report sub-configurations; the supported types of CSI report sub-configurations (e.g., type 1 SD-NES, type 2 SD-NES, and / or PD-NES) ; the maximum number of CSI report sub-configurations in a CSI report for CSI feedback based on multiple CSI-RS resources from different antenna ports, e.g., CSI feedback based on more than 32 ports, per component carrier (CC) , and / or in active bandwidth parts (BWPs) across all CCs; the maximum number of CSI-RS resources in a CSI report for CSI feedback based on multiple CSI-RS resources from different antenna ports, e.g., CSI feedback based on more than 32 ports, per CC, and / or in active BWPs across all CCs; supported time-domain behavior (e.g., periodic, semi-persistent, aperiodic) for the CSI-RS resources; and supported time-domain behavior (e.g., periodic, semi-persistent, aperiodic,  UE-initiated / event-driven) for the CSI report. The UE may report the UE capabilities above for type 1 SD-NES, type 2 SD-NES, and / or PD-NES, individually or jointly.

[0046] In one embodiment, to simplify the UE complexity, or for those situations where the UE does not support NES for CSI feedback with one CSI measured from multiple CSI-RS resources from different antenna ports (e.g., CSI feedback more than 32 ports codebook / CSI-RS) , the NE may refrain from configuring a list of CSI report sub-configurations in a CSI report configuration for CSI feedback with one CSI measured from multiple CSI-RS resources from different antenna ports. Thus, the UE may not expect in this embodiment the NE to configure a list of CSI report sub-configurations configured in a CSI report configuration for CSI feedback with one CSI measured from multiple CSI-RS resources from different antenna ports, e.g., CSI feedback based on more than 32 ports codebook / CSI-RS.

[0047] Returning to the embodiment of FIG. 3, based on the received UE capabilities or independent of the information received in 302, the NE transmits 304 a control signal configuring at least one CSI report configuration, which includes a set of CSI-RS resources for channel measurement. The CSI report configuration is based on K CSI-RS resources, and a list of L CSI report sub-configurations. Each CSI report sub-configuration configures at least one of the following: a port subset based on the total antenna ports for the CSI-RS resources for one CSI measurement; a CSI-RS resource list selecting multiple (i.e., K) CSI-RS resources for one CSI measurement; additional power offset for the CSI-RS resources. The NE may optionally configure a set of CSI-RS resources for interference measurement and / or a set of CSI-IM resources for interference measurement. The NE may transmit the control signal by RRC signaling, e.g., RRCReconfiguration or CSI-ReportConfig.

[0048] In one variation of this embodiment, the NE may configure a codebook configuration in the CSI report configuration. In another variation, the NE may refrain from configuring such CSI report when the number of ports for the codebook is below or equal to a threshold, where the threshold may be predefined, e.g., 32, or reported by the UE capability. Thus, for this variation, the UE may not expect the NE to configure such CSI report when the number of ports for the codebook is below or equal to the threshold, e.g., (2·N1·N2) or (2·N1·N2·Ng) is below or equal to the threshold.

[0049] In one embodiment, for semi-persistent CSI report or aperiodic CSI report, the NE may transmit 306 a medium access control (MAC) control element (CE) or downlink control information (DCI) for activating or triggering N CSI report sub-configurations from the L configured CSI report sub-configurations. For semi-persistent CSI-RS or aperiodic CSI-RS, the NE may transmit 306 MAC CE or DCI for activating or triggering the CSI-RS. The NE transmits 308 multiple CSI-RS resources, e.g., the configured CSI-RS and / or CSI-IM resources. In another embodiment, for periodic CSI report, the NE does not transmit the MAC CE or DCI for activating or triggering the report.

[0050] The UE may determine reporting the CSI for the received CSI-RS resources and / or CSI-IM based on whether the number of occupied CPUs for the CSI report is above the maximum number of occupied CPUs or not. If the number of occupied CPUs for the CSI report is below or equal to the maximum number of occupied CPUs, and the UE receives at least one transmission occasion of each CSI-RS resource for the configured L CSI report sub-configurations or triggered N CSI report sub-configurations, the UE may transmit 310 the CSI report based on the CSI report configuration by an uplink channel, e.g., PUSCH or PUCCH; otherwise, the UE may refrain from transmitting the CSI report or CSI sub-report, or report outdated CSI for the CSI report or CSI sub-report. The CSI report may include one or multiple CSI sub-reports, and each CSI sub-report may include at least one CSI measured from multiple CSI-RS resources.

[0051] FIG. 4 illustrates the UE behavior for CSI feedback based on multiple CSI-RS resources from different antenna port (s) and a list of CSI report sub-configuration (s) discussed above with regard to FIG. 3. The UE may optionally transmit 402 the UE capability on the supported configuration of CSI report based on multiple CSI-RS resources from different antenna ports with CSI sub-configurations configured. The UE receives 404 a control signaling configuring at least a CSI report configuration including multiple CSI-RS resources for channel measurement. The configuration of the at least one CSI report is based on K CSI-RS resources, and a list of L CSI report sub-configurations. Each CSI report sub-configuration provides at least one of the followings: a configuration of a port subset based on the total antenna ports for the CSI-RS resources for one CSI measurement; a configuration of a CSI-RS resource list selecting K CSI-RS resources for one CSI measurement; a configuration of an additional power offset for the CSI-RS  resources, and optionally, a configuration of a list of CSI-RS resources for interference measurement and / or a list of CSI-IM resources for interference measurement.

[0052] The UE optionally receives 406 a MAC CE or a DCI triggering N CSI report sub-configurations from the L configured CSI report sub-configurations and / or the corresponding configured CSI-RS / CSI-IM resources and then receives 408 the configured CSI-RS / CSI-IM resource (s) . The UE determines 410 whether to transmit or not a CSI report with one or multiple CSI sub-reports, where each CSI sub-report includes at least one CSI measured from multiple CSI-RS resources if the number of occupied CPUs is smaller than or equal to the maximum number of occupied CPUs.

[0053] FIG. 5 illustrates the NE’s behavior for CSI feedback based on multiple CSI-RS resources from different antenna port (s) and a list of CSI report sub-configuration (s) discussed above with regard to FIG. 3. The NE may optionally receive 502 the UE capability on the supported configuration of CSI report based on multiple CSI-RS resources from different antenna ports with CSI sub-configurations configured. The NE transmits 504 a control signaling configuring at least a CSI report configuration including a list of CSI-RS resources for channel measurement. The configuration of the at least one CSI report is based on K CSI-RS resources, and a list of L CSI report sub-configurations. Each CSI report sub-configuration provides at least one of the followings: a configuration of a port subset based on the total antenna ports for the CSI-RS resources for one CSI measurement; a configuration of a CSI-RS resource list selecting multiple (e.g., K) CSI-RS resources for one CSI measurement; a configuration of an additional power offset for the CSI-RS resources, and optionally, a configuration of a list of CSI-RS resources for interference measurement and / or a list of CSI-IM resources for interference measurement.

[0054] The NE optionally transmits 506 a MAC CE or a DCI triggering N CSI report sub-configurations from the L configured CSI report sub-configurations and / or the corresponding configured CSI-RS / CSI-IM resources and then transmits 508 the configured multiple CSI-RS / CSI-IM resource (s) . The NE receives 510 a CSI report with one or multiple CSI sub-reports, where each CSI sub-report includes at least one CSI measured from the multiple CSI-RS resources if the number of occupied CPUs is smaller than or equal to the maximum number of occupied CPUs.

[0055] In this document, unless specified, an RRC signaling may indicate a RRC reconfiguration message from NE to UE, or a System Information Block (SIB) , where the SIB can be an existing SIB (e.g., SIB1) or a new SIB (e.g., SIB J, where J is an integer above 21) transmitted by the NE. In some implementations, the NE may receive the UE capability from a UE or from a core network (e.g., Access and Mobility Management Function (AMF) ) or another NE.

[0056] Various methods for CSI feedback including one CSI based on K CSI-RS resources are now discussed, where K is greater than 1. A first set of methods is discussed for type 1 SD-NES configuration. A method of this set uses one port subset indicator for port selection for configured multiple CSI-RS resources. For this method, when the NE configures the UE to measure one CSI from the K CSI-RS resources, the NE may configure one (e.g., a single) port subset indicator in each CSI report sub-configuration, and the one port-subset indicator indicates a subset of enabled or activated antenna ports from the total antenna ports M across the K CSI-RS resources. Alternatively, the port-subset indicator indicates a subset of enabled antenna ports from the number of antenna ports M configured by the codebook configuration, e.g., M=2·N1·N2 or M=2·N1·N2·Ng configured by the type 1 single-panel codebook or type 1 multi-panel codebook respectively. The NE may configure the codebook configuration in the CSI report configuration. When calculating the CSI, the UE may perform antenna port re-indexing (i.e., renaming the first enabled antenna port as 3000) based on the enabled antenna ports for the K CSI-RS resources. In one example, the port subset indicator may take M bits, where each bit indicates whether an antenna port is enabled or not, and the UE calculates the CSI based on the enabled antenna port (s) .

[0057] In one embodiment, the NE and UE may perform the antenna port re-indexing for the K CSI-RS resources as now discussed. For example, the NE considers the number of antenna ports configured for CSI-RS resource k within the K CSI-RS resources as being Mk, and the NE and UE may determine the antenna port index for the first CSI-RS resource within the K CSI-RS resources is from the antenna port 3000 to antenna port 3000+M1-1, and the antenna port index for the second CSI-RS resource within the K CSI-RS resources is from 3000+M1 to 3000+M2+M1-1, and so on. Then, the  port subset indicator may indicate the re-indexed antenna ports from the K CSI-RS resources.

[0058] FIG. 6 illustrates one example for a CSI configuration 600 based on the antenna ports from K=2 CSI-RS resources (CSI-RS resource 1 and CSI-RS resource 2 in the figure) , where the antenna ports are indicated by one port subset indicator 602 (the enabled or activated ports are indicated by 1s and the non-enabled or non-activated ports are indicated by 0s) . Note that in this example, the first 8 ports (ports indexed by 3000 to 3007 in the figure) for the CSI-RS resource 1 are enabled or activated (indicated by bold solid lines in the figure) while the next 24 ports (not labeled) are non-enabled or non-activated (indicated by bold dash lines in the figure) . The CSI-RS resource 2 is similarly configured (the enabled or activated ports are indexed by reference numbers 3032 to 3039 and are indicated by solid lines while the non-enabled ports are not labeled and are indicated by dash lines) . The one port subset indicator 602 indicates all the enabled and non-enabled ports in the subset of K = 2 CSI-RS resources based on which the CSI is measured.

[0059] According to another method, still with regard to the type 1 SD-NES CSI sub-configurations, the NE configures the UE to use one port subset indicator per CSI-RS resource and a CSI-RS resource list indicator. More specifically, when the NE configures the UE to measure one CSI from K CSI-RS resources, the NE may configure one or multiple port subset indicator (s) and one or multiple CSI-RS resource list indicator (s) for each CSI report sub-configuration. The CSI-RS resource list indicator indicates the enabled CSI-RS resource (s) from the K CSI-RS resources. The port subset indicator (s) may indicate the enabled antenna ports for each of the enabled CSI-RS resource (s) , commonly or separately.

[0060] In some implementations, the NE configures the UE to measure the CSI from one CSI-RS resource set for channel measurement, and the CSI-RS resource set may comprise K·SCSI-RS resources, where S may be a positive integer which indicates the number of CSI-RS resource subsets and each CSI-RS resource subset includes K CSI-RS resources. Then, the UE may measure S CSIs from the set of K·SCSI-RS resources, and the UE may measure one CSI per subset of K CSI-RS resources. The NE  may configure one CSI-RS resource list indicator to indicate the common CSI-RS resource (s) within each subset of K CSI-RS resources or configure S CSI-RS resource list indicators to indicate the CSI-RS resource (s) within each subset of K CSI-RS resources, separately, in one CSI report sub-configuration. In one embodiment, the CSI-RS resource list indicator may take K bits, where each bit indicates whether a CSI-RS resource within the subset of K CSI-RS resources is enabled or not.

[0061] In this or another embodiment, the port subset indicator may take Mk bits, where each bit indicates whether an antenna port is enabled or not for one of each enabled CSI-RS resource, and the UE calculates the CSI based on the enabled antenna port (s) and the enabled CSI-RS resource (s) . When calculating the CSI, the UE may perform further antenna port re-indexing (as previously discussed) based on the enabled CSI-RS resource (s) and enabled antenna ports for the enabled CSI-RS resource (s) .

[0062] FIG. 7 illustrates one example for CSI measurement configuration 700 based on the antenna ports from a subset of K=2 CSI-RS resources indicated by one port subset indicator 702 (the 1s indicate the activated or enabled ports and the 0s indicate the non-activated or non-enabled ports) for antenna ports per CSI-RS resource (e.g., CSI-RS resource 1 or CSI-RS resource 2) and one CSI-RS resource list indicator 704 (the 1s indicate the activated CSI-RS resource) . The figure also shows 32 antenna ports configured for the CSI-RS resource 1 (bold solid lines and bold dash lines) and 32 antenna ports configured for the CSI-RS resource 2 (solid lines and dash lines) . The bold solid lines and the solid lines indicate enabled or activated ports and the bold dash lines and the dash lines indicate non-enabled or non-activated ports. Further, the figure shows 8 antenna ports indexed as 3000, 3001, …, 3007 for the CSI-RS resource 1, and 8 antenna ports indexed 3000, 3001, …, 3007 for the CSI-RS resource 2.

[0063] According to yet another method, still with regard to the type 1 SD-NES CSI sub-configurations, the NE may configure the UE to use a port subset indicator for port selection for enabled CSI-RS resources and a CSI-RS resource list indicator. More specifically, when the NE configures the UE to measure one CSI from K CSI-RS resources, the NE may configure one or multiple port subset indicator (s) and one or multiple CSI-RS resource list indicator (s) for each CSI report sub-configuration. The CSI-RS resource list indicator indicates the enabled CSI-RS resource (s) from the K CSI-RS resources and the  port subset indicator may indicate the enabled antenna ports from the total number of antenna ports for the enabled CSI-RS resource (s) within the K CSI-RS resources.

[0064] In one embodiment, the NE configures the UE to measure the CSI from one CSI-RS resource set for channel measurement, and the CSI-RS resource set may include K·SCSI-RS resources, where S may be a positive integer indicating the number of subsets of K CSI-RS resources. Then, the UE may measure the S CSIs from the K·SCSI-RS resources, and the UE may measure one CSI per subset of K CSI-RS resources.

[0065] In one embodiment, the CSI-RS resource list indicator may take K bits, where each bit indicates whether a CSI-RS resource within the subset of K CSI-RS resources is enabled or not. The NE may configure one or multiple port subset indicators indicating the antenna ports from the enabled CSI-RS resources within every subset of K CSI-RS resources, commonly or separately.

[0066] In this or another embodiment, the port subset indicator may take Ms bits, where Ms indicates the total number of antenna ports for the enabled CSI-RS resources within the subset of K CSI-RS resources. Each bit indicates whether an antenna port is enabled or not for the enabled CSI-RS resource, and the UE calculates the CSI based on the enabled antenna port (s) and the enabled CSI-RS resource (s) .

[0067] The NE and / or UE may perform antenna port re-indexing for the enabled CSI-RS resource (s) and then determine the enabled antenna port (s) for the enabled CSI-RS resource (s) based on the port subset indicator. When calculating the CSI, the UE may perform further antenna port re-indexing based on the enabled CSI-RS resource (s) and enabled antenna ports for the enabled CSI-RS resource (s) .

[0068] FIG. 8 illustrates one example for CSI measurement configuration 800 based on the antenna ports from a subset of K=3 CSI-RS resources (e.g., CSI-RS resource 1, CSI-RS resource 2, and CSI-RS resource 3) indicated by one port subset indicator 802, which indicates by 1s the enabled or activated ports and by 0s the non- enabled or non-activated ports, across 2 enabled CSI-RS resources (e.g., CSI-RS resource 1 and CSI-RS resource 2) , and one CSI-RS resource list indicator 804 indicating by 1s the 2 enabled CSI-RS resources (e.g., CSI-RS resource 1 and CSI-RS resource 2) and by 0s the non-enabled CSI-RS resource (e.g., CSI-RS resource 3) . The figure also shows 32 antenna ports configured for the CSI-RS resource 1 (bold solid lines and bold dash lines) , 32 antenna ports configured for the CSI-RS resource 2 (solid lines and dash lines) , and 32 antenna ports configured for the CSI-RS resource 3 (solid bold line and dotted line) . The bold solid lines and the solid lines indicate enabled or activated ports and the bold dash lines, the dash lines, bold dotted lines, and the dotted lines indicate non-enabled or non-activated ports. Further, the figure shows 8 antenna ports indexed as 3000, 3001, …, 3007 for the CSI-RS resource 1, and 8 antenna ports indexed 3000, 3001, …, 3007 for the CSI-RS resource 2.

[0069] According to another method, still with regard to the type 1 SD-NES CSI sub-configurations, to simplify the UE complexity or, for the UE that does not support type 1 SD-NES for CSI feedback with one CSI measured from multiple CSI-RS resources from different antenna ports, the NE may refrain from configuring a list of CSI report sub-configurations with port subset indicator (e.g., port-subsetIndicator) configured in a CSI report configuration for CSI feedback with one CSI measured from multiple CSI-RS resources from different antenna ports. Thus, the UE may not expect the NE to configure a list of CSI report sub-configurations with port subset indicator (e.g., port-subsetIndicator) configured in a CSI report configuration for CSI feedback with one CSI measured from multiple CSI-RS resources from different antenna ports.

[0070] In another embodiment, the NE may configure the UE for non-PMI based feedback. In this embodiment, the NE may refrain from configuring a report quantity, thus configuring the UE to report CRI, RI, and CQI, e.g., reportQuantity set as ‘cri-RI-CQI’ in the CSI report configuration, where it configures the UE to report CSI with one CSI measured from multiple CSI-RS resources from different antenna ports, e.g., CSI feedback from more than 32 ports codebook / CSI-RS. Thus, the UE may not expect the NE to configure a report quantity, thus configuring the UE to report CRI, RI, and CQI, e.g., reportQuantity set as ‘cri-RI-CQI’ , in the CSI report configuration where it configures the UE to report CSI with one CSI measured from multiple CSI-RS resources from different antenna ports.

[0071] In one variation of this embodiment, the NE may refrain from providing such configuration when it configures a list of CSI report sub-configurations in the CSI report configuration. Thus, the UE may not expect the NE to provide such configuration when it configures a list of CSI report sub-configurations in the CSI report configuration.

[0072] In this or another embodiment, the NE may configure a report quantity that configures the UE to report precoder matrix information (PMI or wideband precoder information i1) , e.g., reportQuantity set as ‘cri-RI-PMI-CQI’ , ‘cri-RI-i1’ , or ‘cri-RI-LI-PMI-CQI’ , in the CSI report configuration where it configures the UE to report CSI with one CSI measured from multiple CSI-RS resources from different antenna ports, e.g., CSI feedback from more than 32 ports codebook / CSI-RS. The NE may configure a list of CSI report sub-configuration in the CSI report configuration.

[0073] In one embodiment, related to the CSI report sub-configuration, the NE may configure at least one of the following in the CSI report sub-configurations:

[0074] Codebook subset restriction configuring a subset of codebooks from the codebook configured in the CSI report configuration based on the codebook configuration corresponding to the (N1, N2) or (N1, N2, Ng) value for the CSI report sub-configuration;

[0075] Configuration of N1 and N2 for type 1 single-panel based codebook or N1, N2, and Ng for type 1 multi-panel based codebook based on the enabled antenna ports and / or enabled CSI-RS resource (s) ;

[0076] Configuration of the rank indicator restriction; and

[0077] Configuration of wideband / subband PMI search spaces.

[0078] In one embodiment, the NE may configure the codebook subset restriction based on the configured codebook types and the number of enabled antenna ports in one CSI report sub-configuration, and the report quantity configured in the CSI report configuration.

[0079] For example, for type 1 single-panel based codebook, the NE may configure the codebook subset restriction based on the number of enabled antenna ports for the CSI report sub-configuration when the NE configures the report quality configuring the UE to report full precoder information. If the NE configures the report quality configuring the UE to report wideband precoder information (e.g., i1) , e.g., ‘CRI-RI-i1-CQI’ , the NE may  configure the codebook subset restriction for subband precoder selection (e.g., i2) only, e.g., typeI-SinglePanel-codebookSubsetRestriction-i2.

[0080] In another example, for type 1 multi-panel based codebook, the NE may configure the codebook subset restriction based on the number of enabled antenna ports for the CSI report sub-configuration and the number of enabled panels. If the number of enabled panels is 1, the NE may configure the codebook subset restriction based on the codebook subset restriction for type 1 single-panel codebook.

[0081] The NE may configure the (N1, N2) or (N1, N2, Ng) and codebook subset restriction in each CSI report sub-configuration jointly. In one example, in each CSI report sub-configuration, the NE may configure the codebook subset restriction and (N1, N2) or (N1, N2, Ng) as follows:

[0082] In another example, in each CSI report sub-configuration, the NE may configure the codebook subset restriction and (N1, N2) or (N1, N2, Ng) based on the codebook configured in the CSI report sub-configuration as follows:

[0083] In an embodiment, when the (N1, N2) or (N1, N2, Ng) or number of antenna ports are not configured, the NE and UE may determine that the CSI sub-report is based on 1 antenna port. In one example, if the NE configures the port subset indicator but does not configure any of the (N1, N2) or (N1, N2, Ng) or number of antenna ports in the CSI sub-report configuration, the NE and UE may determine the CSI sub-report is based on 1 antenna port. If the NE does not configure the port subset indicator and does not configure  any of the (N1, N2) or (N1, N2, Ng) or number of antenna ports in the CSI sub-report configuration, the NE and UE may determine the CSI sub-report is based on the codebook configured in the CSI report configuration. In some other implementations, the NE may configure whether the codebook is based on 1 antenna port or more than 1 antenna port for each CSI report sub-configuration, and configure the (N1, N2) or (N1, N2, Ng) and codebook subset restriction for the more than 1 antenna ports case jointly. In some other embodiments, the NE should always configure each CSI report sub-configuration in the CSI report configuration with type 1 codebook configured based on more than one antenna port. In some embodiments, if a CSI report sub-configuration is configured with one antenna port, the UE may report CRI and / or CQI. Thus, the UE may refrain from reporting RI and / or PMI regardless of the configuration of the report quantity.

[0084] In another embodiment, the NE may configure the RI restriction based on the maximum number of layers for the type 1 codebook configured in the CSI report configuration. For example, the maximum number of layers is 4 for the type 1 single-panel based codebook and 8 for the type 1 multi-panel based codebook. In some other embodiments, the NE may configure the RI restriction based on the minimum or maximum value of the maximum number of downlink layers for the type 1 single-panel based codebook or type 1 multi-panel based codebook. In one embodiment, for type 1 SD-NES, the NE shall always configure the RI restriction in each CSI report sub-configuration. In some other embodiments, for type 1 SD-NES, if the NE does not configure the RI restriction for a CSI report sub-configuration, the NE and UE may determine the candidate value (s) of the RI based on the RI restriction configured in the CSI report configuration, or based on the maximum number of downlink layers configured by the NE or reported by the UE capability, or based on the minimum value of the maximum number of downlink layers configured by the NE or reported by the UE capability and the number of enabled ports for the CSI report sub-configuration.

[0085] In some embodiments, the NE may configure search spaces for the wideband and subband PMI. In one example, the NE may configure the UE to report the wideband PMI based on every U precoders and report the subband PMIs within the U precoders based on the reported wideband PMI (e.g., starting from the reported wideband PMI) . In some other embodiments, the NE may configure the search spaces for the  wideband and subband PMI by codebook mode. Different search spaces for the wideband and subband PMI may be predefined for different codebook modes, and the NE may configure the codebook modes in each CSI report sub-configuration. Then the UE may determine the codebook for the CSI report sub-configuration based on the configured codebook mode. In some other embodiments, when the NE configures a list of CSI report sub-configuration or a list of CSI report sub-configuration with port subset indicator configured, the codebook mode may be pre-defined, e.g., codebook mode is 1.

[0086] In some other embodiments, the NE may configure the search spaces for the wideband and subband PMI, e.g., codebook mode, in the CSI report configuration. Then the UE may determine the codebook for each CSI report sub-configuration based on the configured codebook mode in the CSI report configuration if the codebook based on the enabled antenna ports supports more than one codebook modes; otherwise, the UE may ignore the codebook modes.

[0087] In some embodiments, if the NE does not configure the above noted parameters in a CSI report sub-configuration, the UE may determine the configuration of the corresponding parameters configured in a CSI report configuration. Alternatively, the UE may determine that the above noted parameters are not configured and measures the CSI based on the default behavior, e.g., when the parameters are not configured. In some embodiments, if the NE configures the above noted parameters in a CSI report sub-configuration, the UE may ignore the corresponding parameters configured in a CSI report configuration.

[0088] In some embodiments, the NE may further configure the (O1, O2) corresponding to the configured (N1, N2) in a CSI report sub-configuration. The NE may configure the codebook subset restriction based on the configured (N1, N2, O1, O2) , and configure the codebook subset restriction and (N1, N2, O1, O2) separately or jointly. Then, the UE may determine the codebook based on the configured (N1, N2, O1, O2) , and calculate the CSI based on the configured codebook subset restriction and the codebook.

[0089] Methods regarding the type 2 SD-NES configurations are now described. According to an embodiment, one CSI-RS resource list is used for indicating one or multiple sets of K CSI-RS resources. More specifically, when the NE configures the UE to measure one CSI from a set of multiple (e.g., K) CSI-RS resources, the NE may configure  Q, e.g., Q=K·SCSI-RS resources for channel measurement, and the NE may configure one CSI-RS resource list indicator in a CSI report sub-configuration. The CSI-RS resource list indicator configures K·sCSI-RS resources for channel measurement for the CSI sub-report corresponding to the CSI report sub-configuration. The UE may measure and calculate CSIs based on the K·sCSI-RS resources for channel measurement, where the UE may measure and calculate each CSI based on every subset of K CSI-RS resources.

[0090] In some embodiments, s is pre-defined as 1. Then the UE may report at least one of the RI / PMI / CQI / LI in the CSI sub-report. In some other embodiments, s is based on the NE’s configuration and s may be larger than 1 or equal to 1. When s is larger than 1, the UE may report an indicator indicating the K CSI-RS resources for the CSI measurement in the CSI sub-report. The UE may report at least one of the RI / PMI / CQI / LI corresponding to the K CSI-RS resources in the CSI sub-report.

[0091] In some embodiments, the NE configures the CSI-RS resource list indicator based on S bits, where each bit may indicate whether the subset of K CSI-RS resources from the Q CSI-RS resources for channel measurement is selected or not.

[0092] In some other embodiments, the NE configures the CSI-RS resource list indicator based on Q bits, where each bit may indicate whether each CSI-RS resource from the subset of Q CSI-RS resources for channel measurement is selected or not. In some embodiments, the NE may configure the same selection status for every subset of K CSI-RS resources. Thus, the NE may configure whether every subset of K CSI-RS resources is selected or not. The UE may expect the NE to configure the same selection status for every subset of K CSI-RS resources. In some other implementations, the NE and UE may determine the subset of K CSI-RS resources based on the selected CSI-RS resources. In one example, if the selected CSI-RS resources is {1, 3, 5, 9} and K=2, the UE may measure a first CSI based on CSI-RS resources {1, 3} and a second CSI based on CSI-RS resources {5, 9} .

[0093] The UE may calculate the CSI based on the subset of K CSI-RS resources for channel measurement for one CSI report sub-configuration after port re-indexing based on a number of antenna ports configured for the K CSI-RS resources for channel measurement. FIG. 9 illustrates one example for the CSI measurement configuration 900  based on the selected CSI-RS resources indicated by one CSI-RS resource list indicator 904 when K=2. FIG. 9 shows CSI-RS resources 1 to 6, grouped in three subsets 910, 912, and 914, each subset including two resources, for example, subset 910 includes CSI-RS resources 1 and 2. The CSI-RS resource list indicator 904 includes 1s for the active or enabled CSI-RS resources and 0s for the non-enabled or non-activated CSI-RS resources. The figure further shows the selection of subsets 910 and 912 for the CSI report sub-configuration 1, and the CSI sub-report including a CSI 1 measured based on the subset 910 and a CSI 2 measured based on the subset 912.

[0094] According to another method, still with regard to the type 2 SD-NES CSI sub-configurations, the NE configures the UE to use one CSI-RS resource subset / set list indicating one or multiple CSI-RS resource subset / set with K CSI-RS resources. In one embodiment, the NE configures the UE to measure one CSI from a subset / set of K CSI-RS resources, and the NE may configure S CSI-RS resource subsets / sets for channel measurement, where each CSI-RS resource subset / set may include K CSI-RS resources. The NE may configure one CSI-RS resource subset / set list indicator in a CSI report sub-configuration, configuring one or multiple CSI-RS resource subset / set for channel measurement for the CSI sub-report corresponding to the CSI report sub-configuration. The UE may measure and calculate one CSI based on the subset of K CSI-RS resources within one CSI-RS resource set.

[0095] In some embodiments, the NE may configure only one CSI-RS resource subset / set in a CSI report sub-configuration. Then the UE may report at least one of the RI / PMI / CQI / LI in the CSI sub-report. In some other embodiments, the NE may configure multiple CSI-RS resource subsets / sets in a CSI report sub-configuration. The UE may report an indicator indicating the CSI-RS resource subset / set for the CSI measurement in the CSI sub-report. The UE may report at least one of the RI / PMI / CQI / LI corresponding to the CSI-RS resource subset / set in the CSI sub-report.

[0096] In one example, the NE configures the CSI-RS resource subset / set list indicator based on S bits, where each bit may indicate whether the entire CSI-RS resource subset / set from the S CSI-RS resource subsets / sets for channel measurement is selected or not. The UE may calculate the CSI based on the CSI-RS resources in a CSI-RS  resource subset / set for channel measurement for one CSI report sub-configuration after port re-indexing based on number of antenna ports configured for the CSI-RS resources.

[0097] FIG. 10 illustrates one example for CSI measurement configuration 1000 based on the selected CSI-RS resources indicated by one CSI-RS resource subset / set list indicator 1004 when K=2 and S=3. FIG. 10 shows CSI-RS resources 1 to 6, grouped into three subsets / sets 1010, 1012, and 1014, each subset / set including two resources, for example, subset / set 1010 includes CSI-RS resources 1 and 2. The CSI-RS resource subset / set list indicator 1004 uses 1s for the active or enabled CSI-RS resource subset / set and 0s for the non-enabled or non-activated CSI-RS resource subset / set. The figure further shows the selection of subsets / sets 1010 and 1012 for the CSI report sub-configuration 1, and the CSI sub-report including a CSI 1 measured based on the subset / set 1010 and a CSI 2 measured based on the subset / set 1012.

[0098] In one embodiment, to simplify the UE complexity or for the UE that does not support type 2 SD-NES for CSI feedback with one CSI measured from multiple CSI-RS resources from different antenna ports, e.g., CSI feedback from more than 32 ports codebook / CSI-RS, the NE may refrain from configuring a list of CSI report sub-configurations with CSI-RS resource list (e.g., nzp-CSI-RS-resourceList) configured in a CSI report configuration for CSI feedback with one CSI measured from multiple CSI-RS resources from different antenna ports. Thus, the UE may not expect the NE to configure a list of CSI report sub-configurations with a CSI-RS resource list (e.g., nzp-CSI-RS-resourceList) configured in a CSI report configuration for CSI feedback with one CSI measured from multiple CSI-RS resources from different antenna ports.

[0099] Methods based on PD-NES report configurations are now discussed. According to an embodiment, when the NE configures the UE to measure one CSI from a subset of K CSI-RS resources, the NE may configure one additional power offset indicator in a CSI report sub-configuration, and the one additional power offset indicator indicates an additional power offset on top of the configured power offset between the PDSCH and each CSI-RS resource.

[0100] In some embodiments, for RI / PMI / CQI calculation, the UE assumes or determines the transmission signal of PDSCH antenna ports, e.g., antenna ports [1000, 1001, …1000+v -1] for v layers, which would result in signals equivalent to corresponding  symbols transmitted on re-indexed CSI-RS antenna ports across the CSI-RS resources configured in the K CSI-RS resources, e.g., antenna ports [3000, 3001, …3000+Q-1] , where Q=2·N1·N2 for single-panel based codebook or Q=2·N1·N2·Ng for multi-panel based codebook if port subset indicator is not configured. Q is based on the antenna ports indicated by the port subset indicator, otherwise, is given by:

[0101] where x (i) indicates the PDSCH symbols at resource element I, and W (i) indicates the precoder for resource element i corresponding to the reported PMI.

[0102] In some other implementations, for RI / PMI / CQI calculation, the UE assumes or determines the transmission signal of PDSCH antenna ports, e.g., antenna ports [1000, 1001, …1000+v -1] for v layers which would result in signals equivalent to corresponding symbols transmitted on CSI-RS antenna ports, e.g., antenna ports [3000, 3001, …3000+Pj-1] , for the K CSI-RS resource for CSI measurement, where Pj is the number of ports configured in CSI-RS resource j, if port subset indicator is not configured, with Pj being the number of ports enabled by the port subset indicator in CSI-RS resource j. Otherwise Pj is given by:

[0103] In some embodiments, when calculating the RI / PMI / CQI, the UE may determine the EPRE ratio between the PDSCH and CSI-RS from the K CSI-RS resources based on at least one of the configured energy per resource element (EPRE) ratio (powerControlOffset) for each CSI-RS resource within the K CSI-RS resources, or the number of CSI-RS resources for the CSI measurement (K) and the configured additional power offset (powerOffset) . In one example, the EPRE ratio is powerControlOffset - 10·log10 (K) + powerOffset dB or powerControlOffset + 10·log10 (K) + powerOffset. In another example, the EPRE ratio is powerControlOffset + powerOffset dB. If the additional power offset is not configured, the UE may determine the additional power offset as 0 dB.

[0104] In some other embodiments, when calculating the RI / PMI / CQI, the UE may determine the EPRE ratio between the PDSCH and CSI-RS from one CSI-RS resource within the K CSI-RS resources based on the configured EPRE ratio (powerControlOffset) for the CSI-RS resource or the number of configured or enabled ports for the CSI-RS resource and the configured additional power offset (powerOffset) . In one example, the EPRE ratio between the PDSCH and CSI-RS resource j is powerControlOffset -10·log10 (Pj) + powerOffset dB or powerControlOffset + 10·log10 (Pj) + powerOffset. In another example, the EPRE ratio is given by powerControlOffset + powerOffset dB. If the additional power offset is not configured, the UE may determine the additional power offset as 0 dB.

[0105] According to another method related to PD-NES, a dedicated additional power offset is used for each CSI-RS resource. When the NE configures the UE to measure one CSI based on a subset of K CSI-RS resources, the NE may configure a list of dedicated additional power offset indicators, e.g., K additional power offset indicators, in a CSI report sub-configuration, and the one dedicated additional power offset indicator indicates additional power offset on top of the configured power offset between the PDSCH and one of the K CSI-RS resources. Then the NE may identify the CSI corresponding to different transmission powers for different antenna ports.

[0106] When calculating the RI / PMI / CQI, the UE may determine the EPRE ratio between the PDSCH and CSI-RS from one CSI-RS resource within the K CSI-RS resources based on the configured EPRE ratio (powerControlOffset) for the CSI-RS resource or the number of configured or enabled ports for the CSI-RS resource and the configured additional power offset (powerOffset) for the CSI-RS resource. In one example, the EPRE ratio between the PDSCH and CSI-RS resource j is powerControlOffset -10·log10 (Pj) + powerOffset dB or powerControlOffset + 10·log10 (Pj) + powerOffset. In another example, the EPRE ratio is the powerControlOffset + powerOffset dB. If the  additional power offset is not configured, the UE may determine the additional power offset as 0 dB.

[0107] According to another method related to PD-NES, a scheduling restriction is used for the additional power offset indicator. To simplify the UE complexity or for a UE that does not support PD-NES for CSI feedback with one CSI measured from multiple CSI-RS resources from different antenna ports, e.g., CSI feedback from more than 32 ports codebook / CSI-RS, the NE may refrain from configuring a list of CSI report sub-configurations with additional power offset (e.g., powerOffset) configured in a CSI report configuration for CSI feedback with one CSI measured from multiple CSI-RS resources from different antenna ports. Thus, the UE may not expect the NE to configure a list of CSI report sub-configurations with additional power offset (e.g., powerOffset) configured in a CSI report configuration for CSI feedback with one CSI measured from multiple CSI-RS resources from different antenna ports.

[0108] The above discussed embodiments may be combined with a CPU occupancy rule which is discussed now. The NE and UE may determine a number of CPUs for the CSI report with CSI measured from K CSI-RS resources and a list of CSI report sub-configuration, based on at least one of the following factors:

[0109] a number of CSI-RS resources for one CSI measurement (K) ;

[0110] a number of CSI-RS resources for channel measurement for one CSI report sub-configuration (Qs for CSI report sub-configuration s) ;

[0111] a number of configured CSI report sub-configurations (L) ;

[0112] a number of triggered CSI report sub-configurations (N) ; and

[0113] a UE capability for the number of CPUs.

[0114] In some embodiments, the UE calculates the CSIs for all the CSI sub-configuration one by one. Then the number of CPUs is 1.

[0115] In some other embodiments, the UE calculates in parallel the CSIs for a subset of or all the CSI sub-configurations, and the UE measures the CSI for each CSI sub-configuration one by one. Then the number of CPUs is based on the number of configured CSI report sub-configurations or number of triggered CSI report sub-configurations. Thus, the number of CPUs is L or N or xL or xN, where x may be  predefined, e.g., x=1 or reported by the UE capability or configured by the network entity. In one example, the value of x is in the range of (0, 1] .

[0116] In some other embodiments, the UE calculates, in parallel, a subset of or all the CSIs for each CSI sub-configuration. Then the number of CPUs is given by or  Alternatively, the number of CPUs is given by or where y may be predefined, e.g., ys=1 or reported by the UE capability or configured by the NE. In one example, the value of ys is in the range of (0, 1] . Alternatively, the number of CPUs is or

[0117] In some other embodiments, the UE measures in parallel the CSI for each CSI-RS. Then the number of CPUs is or Alternatively, the number of CPUs is or

[0118] In some embodiments, the UE may report the UE capability indicating an additional number of CPUs for a CSI report or a CSI report sub-configuration.

[0119] In some embodiments, the maximum number of CPUs for the CSI report is no more than the maximum number of CPUs, e.g., 8.

[0120] Numerical adjectives “first” , “second” , and “third” do not imply any order (are not ordinals) but are markers to distinguish separate instances of similar elements. References to the singular (e.g., “a” or “an” , “the” ) should include the plural unless clearly indicated otherwise.

[0121] As used herein, a phrase referring to “at least one of” or “one or more of” a list of items refers to any combination of those items, including single members. For example, “at least one of: a, b, or c” is intended to cover the possibilities of: a only, b only, c only, a combination of a and b, a combination of a and c, a combination of b and c, and a combination of a and b and c.

[0122] Although the features and elements of the present embodiments are described in the embodiments in particular combinations, each feature or element can be used alone without the other features and elements of the embodiments or in various combinations with or without other features and elements disclosed herein. The methods or flowcharts may be implemented in a computer program, software or firmware tangibly  embodied in a computer-readable storage medium for execution by a specifically programmed computer or processor.
