AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Wireless communication systems face challenges in TDD due to reduced coverage, increased latency, and reduced capacity when uplink time duration is limited, and full duplex schemes are hindered by the inability to transmit downlink reference signals in uplink subbands.

Method used

The use of reference signals in different time units, such as sub-band full duplex (SBFD) and non-SBFD symbols, allows for simultaneous uplink and downlink transmissions by configuring uplink sub-bands within downlink and flexible time units, enabling separate or combined operations based on channel state information (CSI) and beam prediction using AI/ML models.

Benefits of technology

This approach enhances communication efficiency by reducing latency and improving capacity while accurately predicting precoder matrices and beams, leading to better performance in wireless communication systems.

Description

USE OF REFERENCE SIGNALS IN TIME UNITS OF DIFFERENT TYPES IN WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONSTECHNICAL FIELD

[0001] This document is directed generally to use of reference signals transmitted in time units of different types in wireless communications.BACKGROUND

[0002] Wireless communication system involving mobile communication technology (e.g., 5th Generation mobile communication technology (5G) or further 6th Generation mobile communication technology (6G) ) continually face more and more demands, including systems implementing enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB) , ultra-reliable low-latency communication (URLLC) , and / or massive machine-type communication (mMTC) . To meet the demands, full duplex schemes may be implemented in order to improve the efficiency of communication system.

[0003] Additionally, wireless communication systems deploying commercial New Radio (NR) may implement time division duplex (TDD) . In TDD, the time domain resource is split between downlink and uplink. However, allocation of a limited time duration for the uplink in TDD may result in reduced coverage, increased latency and reduced capacity. Simultaneous transmission in uplink and downlink directions (i.e., full duplex) may overcome these challenges. However, downlink (DL) reference signals cannot be transmitted in an uplink (UL) subband. Thus, ways to handle downlink signals for implementations where sub-band non-overlapping full duplex is supported on a TDD carrier may be desirable.SUMMARY

[0004] This document relates to methods, systems, apparatuses and devices for wireless communication. In some implementations, a method for wireless communication includes: receiving, by a user device, at least one first reference signal in at least one first time unit of a first type and at least one second reference signal in at least one second time unit of a second type; and performing, by the user device, at least one operation based on the at least one first reference signal and the at least one second reference signal in combination or independent of each other.

[0005] In some other implementations, a method for wireless communication includes: transmitting, by a network device to a user device, at least one reference signal in at least one first time unit of a first type and at least one second reference signal in at least one second time unit of a second type; and receiving, by the network device, a report associated with at least one operation performed by the user device based on the at least one first reference signal and the at least one second reference signal in combination or independent of each other.

[0006] In some other implementations, a device, such as a network device, is disclosed. The device may include one or more processors and one or more memories, wherein the one or more processors are configured to read computer code from the one or more memories to implement any of the methods above.

[0007] In yet some other implementations, a computer program product is disclosed. The computer program product may include a non-transitory computer-readable program medium with computer code stored thereupon, the computer code, when executed by one or more processors, causing the one or more processors to implement any of the methods above.

[0008] The above and other aspects and their implementations are described in greater detail in the drawings, the descriptions, and the claims.BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

[0025] The present description describes various embodiments of systems, apparatuses, devices, and methods for wireless communications related valid transmission resource determinations.

[0026] Fig. 1 shows a diagram of an example wireless communication system 100 including a plurality of communication nodes (or just nodes) that are configured to wirelessly communicate with each other. In general, the communication nodes include at least one user device 102 and at least one network device 104. The example wireless communication system 100 in Fig. 1 is shown as including two user devices 102, including a first user device 102 (1) and a second user device 102 (2) , and one device 104. However, various other examples of the wireless communication system 100 that include any of various combinations of one or more user devices 102 and / or one or more network devices 104 may be possible.

[0027] In general, a user device as described herein, such as the user device 102, may include a single electronic device or apparatus, or multiple (e.g., a network of) electronic devices or apparatuses, capable of communicating wirelessly over a network. A user device may comprise or otherwise be referred to as a user terminal, a user terminal device, or a user equipment (UE) . Additionally, a user device may be or include, but not limited to, a mobile device (such as a mobile phone, a smart phone, a smart watch, a tablet, a laptop computer, vehicle or other vessel (human, motor, or engine-powered, such as an automobile, a plane, a train, a ship, or a bicycle as  non-limiting examples) or a fixed or stationary device, (such as a desktop computer or other computing device that is not ordinarily moved for long periods of time, such as appliances, other relatively heavy devices including Internet of things (IoT) , or computing devices used in commercial or industrial environments, as non-limiting examples) . In various embodiments, a user device 102 may include transceiver circuitry 106 coupled to an antenna 108 to effect wireless communication with the network device 104. The transceiver circuitry 106 may also be coupled to a processor 110, which may also be coupled to a memory 112 or other storage device. The memory 112 may store therein instructions or code that, when read and executed by the processor 110, cause the processor 110 to implement various ones of the methods described herein.

[0028] Additionally, in general, a network device as described herein, such as the network device 104, may include a single electronic device or apparatus, or multiple (e.g., a network of) electronic devices or apparatuses, and may comprise one or more wireless access nodes, base stations, or other wireless network access points capable of communicating wirelessly over a network with one or more user devices and / or with one or more other network devices 104. For example, the network device 104 may comprise a 4G LTE base station, a 5G NR base station, a 5G central-unit base station, a 5G distributed-unit base station, a next generation Node B (gNB) , an enhanced Node B (eNB) , or other similar or next-generation (e.g., 6G) base stations, in various embodiments. A network device 104 may include transceiver circuitry 114 coupled to an antenna 116, which may include an antenna tower 118 in various approaches, to effect wireless communication with the user device 102 or another network device 104. The transceiver circuitry 114 may also be coupled to one or more processors 120, which may also be coupled to a memory 122 or other storage device. The memory 122 may store therein instructions or code that, when read and executed by the processor 120, cause the processor 120 to implement one or more of the methods described herein.

[0029] In various embodiments, two communication nodes in the wireless system 100-such as a user device 102 and a network device 104, two user devices 102 without a network device 104, or two network devices 104 without a user device 102-may be configured to wirelessly communicate with each other in or over a mobile network and / or a wireless access network according to one or more standards and / or specifications. In general, the standards and / or  specifications may define the rules or procedures under which the communication nodes can wirelessly communicate, which, in various embodiments, may include those for communicating in millimeter (mm) -Wave bands, and / or with multi-antenna schemes and beamforming functions. In addition or alternatively, the standards and / or specifications are those that define a radio access technology and / or a cellular technology, such as Fourth Generation (4G) Long Term Evolution (LTE) , Fifth Generation (5G) New Radio (NR) , or New Radio Unlicensed (NR-U) , as non-limiting examples.

[0030] Additionally, in the wireless system 100, the communication nodes are configured to wirelessly communicate signals between each other. In general, a communication in the wireless system 100 between two communication nodes can be or include a transmission or a reception, and is generally both simultaneously, depending on the perspective of a particular node in the communication. For example, for a given communication between a first node and a second node where the first node is transmitting a signal to the second node and the second node is receiving the signal from the first node, the first node may be referred to as a source or transmitting node or device, the second node may be referred to as a destination or receiving node or device, and the communication may be considered a transmission for the first node and a reception for the second node. Of course, since communication nodes in a wireless system 100 can both send and receive signals, a single communication node may be both a transmitting / source node and a receiving / destination node simultaneously or switch between being a source / transmitting node and a destination / receiving node.

[0031] Also, particular signals can be characterized or defined as either an uplink (UL) signal, a downlink (DL) signal, or a sidelink (SL) signal. An uplink signal is a signal transmitted from a user device 102 to a network device 104. A downlink signal is a signal transmitted from a network device 104 to a user device 102. A sidelink signal is a signal transmitted from a one user device 102 to another user device 102, or a signal transmitted from one network device 104 to a another network device 104. Also, for sidelink transmissions, a first / source user device 102 directly transmits a sidelink signal to a second / destination user device 102 without any forwarding of the sidelink signal to a network device 104.

[0032] Additionally, signals communicated between communication nodes in the system 100 may be characterized or defined as a data signal or a control signal. In general, a data signal is a signal that includes or carries data, such multimedia data (e.g., voice and / or image data) , and a control signal is a signal that carries control information that configures the communication nodes in certain ways in order to communicate with each other, or otherwise controls how the communication nodes communicate data signals with each other. Also, certain signals may be defined or characterized by combinations of data / control and uplink / downlink / sidelink, including uplink control signals, uplink data signals, downlink control signals, downlink data signals, sidelink control signals, and sidelink data signals.

[0033] For at least some specifications, such as 5G NR, data and control signals are transmitted and / or carried on physical channels. Generally, a physical channel corresponds to a set of time-frequency resources used for transmission of a signal. Different types of physical channels may be used to transmit different types of signals. For example, physical data channels (or just data channels) , also herein called traffic channels, are used to transmit data signals, and physical control channels (or just control channels) are used to transmit control signals. Example types of traffic channels (or physical data channels) include, but are not limited to, a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) used to communicate downlink data signals, a physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) used to communicate uplink data signals, and a physical sidelink shared channel (PSSCH) used to communicate sidelink data signals. In addition, example types of physical control channels include, but are not limited to, a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) used to communicate downlink control signals, a physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) used to communicate uplink control signals, and a physical sidelink control channel (PSCCH) used to communicate sidelink control signals. As used herein for simplicity, unless specified otherwise, a particular type of physical channel is also used to refer to a signal that is transmitted on that particular type of physical channel, and / or a transmission on that particular type of transmission. As an example illustration, a PDSCH refers to the physical downlink shared channel itself, a downlink data signal transmitted on the PDSCH, or a downlink data transmission. Accordingly, a communication node transmitting or receiving a PDSCH means that the communication node is transmitting or receiving a signal on a PDSCH.

[0034] Additionally, for at least some specifications, such as 5G NR, and / or for at least some types of control signals, a control signal that a communication node transmits may include control information comprising the information necessary to enable transmission of one or more data signals between communication nodes, and / or to schedule one or more data channels (or one or more transmissions on data channels) . For example, such control information may include the information necessary for proper reception, decoding, and demodulation of a data signals received on physical data channels during a data transmission, and / or for uplink scheduling grants that inform the user device about the resources and transport format to use for uplink data transmissions. In some embodiments, the control information includes downlink control information (DCI) that is transmitted in the downlink direction from a network device 104 to a user device 102. In other embodiments, the control information includes uplink control information (UCI) that is transmitted in the uplink direction from a user device 102 to a network device 104, or sidelink control information (SCI) that is transmitted in the sidelink direction from one user device 102 (1) to another user device 102 (2) .

[0035] Additionally, in some implementations, a time domain resource is split between downlink and uplink in time division duplex (TDD) . However, allocation of a limited time duration for the uplink in TDD may result in reduced coverage, increased latency and / or reduced capacity. Simultaneous uplink and downlink transmission (i.e., full duplex) , including sub-band non-overlapping full duplex (SBFD) at the network (e.g., gNB) side within a TDD band, may help to remedy these problems. In SBFD supported on a TDD carrier, an uplink (UL) sub-band is introduced within downlink and / or flexible symbols. The present description describes ways to handle reference signals, including downlink (DL) reference signal, in connection with implementations where SBFD is supported on a TDD carrier.

[0036] In further detail, in some implementations to perform an SBFD operation, a TDD carrier to perform SBFD and an UL sub-band may be prioritized. The UL sub-band is configured on one or more downlink and / or flexible time units (e.g., slots or symbols) with consecutive frequency resources. Fig. 2 shows a schematic diagram of a SBFD operation over multiple downlink (D) , flexible (F) , and uplink (U) symbols. As shown in Fig. 2, an UL sub-band is configured within some downlink (D) and / or flexible (F) symbols or slots to achieve SBFD, and the DL sub-band (s)  are located in each side of the UL sub-band. Although not shown in Fig. 2, some implementations may utilize a gap or guardband between the UL sub-band and the DL sub-band (s) .

[0047] Further details of actions performed by one or more communication nodes in the wireless communication system 100, any of which may be incorporated into any of various implementations of the method 300, the method 400 or other methods, are now described.

[0048] In some implementations, downlink (DL) reference signals (e.g., a channel state information (CSI) -reference signal (RS) ) may be configured and transmitted within one or more downlink (D) and / or flexible (F) time units (e.g., slots or symbols) . In implementations where an uplink (UL) sub-band is configured within the one or more downlink and / or flexible slots or symbols, at least the DL reference signals may be transmitted in the UL sub-band which may result in different configurations for the DL reference signals in SBFD time units (e.g., symbols or slots) and non-SBFD time units (e.g., symbols or slots) , or the same configuration for the DL reference signals but with different operations being performed in the SBFD time units and the non-SBFD time units. Of note, in at least some of these implementations, SBFD time units (e.g., symbols or slots) are downlink and / or flexible time units with an UL sub-band configured. Regardless of the configuration of the DL reference signals, how to use the downlink reference signals in different  symbols / slots are described in the present description, such as for implementations where CSI-RS are used for CSI (e.g. precoder matrix indication (PMI) ) prediction or downlink transmit (Tx) beam prediction, as examples. In general, in the various implementations described herein, the user device 102 performs at least one operation or action based on references signals (such as but not limited to CSI-RS) in time units (e.g., symbols or slots ) of a first type (e.g., SBFD time units such as symbols or slots) and time units (e.g., symbols or slots) of a second type (e.g., non-SBFD time units such as symbols or slots) in combination or independent of each other.

[0049] Embodiment 1

[0050] In implementations where precoder matrix indication (PMI) prediction is performed without SBFD being supported or utilized between communication nodes, the user device 102 may perform PMI prediction according to a framework including a CSI reporting window with a reference resource slot (n–nCSI, ref) or a reporting slot (plus an offset, n+δ) as the starting slot l to where the PMI calculation corresponds. The reported PMI indicates predicted precoder matrices associated with N4 consecutive slot intervals starting at slot l, each with duration of d slots. A timing diagram illustrating an example PMI prediction and reporting is shown in Fig. 5. For at least some of these implementations, the value of N4∈ {1, 2, 4, 8} is configured by a higher layer parameter N4. Additionally, in some implementations, the framework includes a discrete Fourier Transform (DFT) -based Doppler-domain (DD) basis providing a third dimension (in addition to spatial-domain (SD) and frequency-domain (FD) ) for PMI compression; one or two time-domain (TD) channel quality indicators (CQIs) in one CSI report (together with PMI and rank indicator (RI) ) ; and / or aperiodic CSI-RS consisting of multiple non-zero power (NZP) CSI-RS resources as the channel measurement resource (CMR) .

[0051] In other implementations, PMI prediction may be implemented with SBFD being supported, configured, or utilized. In at least some of these implementations, calculation and / or reporting of a predicted PMI may be based on one or more CSI-RS in one or more SBFD symbols or slots and one or more CSI-RS in one or more non-SBFD symbols or slots in combination or independent of other.

[0052] Additionally, in some implemented where calculation and / or reporting of predicted PCI is performed with SBFD, a predicted PMI based on CSI-RS on SBFD symbols and non-SBFD  symbols may indicate predicted precoder matrices an associated set of consecutive slot intervals common to both the SBFD symbols and the non-SBFD symbols. An example of predicted PMI calculation and / or reporting with CSI-RS transmitted on SBFD and non-SBFD time units is shown in Fig. 6. In some implementations, such as in Fig. 6, the predicted PMI is reported in one CSI report, such as at and / or in a slot n. Also, in the example implementation in Fig. 6, through use of the CSI-RS in SBFD symbols and the CSI-RS in non-SBFD symbols in combination, the predicted PMI predicted precoder matrices associated the same N4 consecutive slot intervals, start at slot l=n+δ. In this context, the N4 consecutive slot intervals are common to both the SBFD symbols and the non-SBFD symbols (and / or common to the CSI-RS in the SBFD symbols and the CSI-RS in the non-SBFD symbols) . Additionally, in some implementations such as in Fig. 6, the CSI reference resource for SBFD symbols and non-SBFD symbols are the same. In other implementations such as shown in Fig. 7, the CSI reference resources for the SBFD symbols and the non-SBFD symbols are separate or different and / or are separately configured or reported.

[0053] In other implementations of predicted PMI calculation and reporting, the predicted PMI based on CSI-RS on SBFD symbols and non-SBFD symbols indicates predicted precoder matrices associated with separate consecutive slot intervals, as illustrated in Fig. 8. That is, a first set of consecutive slot intervals is associated with the SBFD symbols and a second set of consecutive slot intervals is associated with the non-SBFD symbols. In any of various implementations, the separately associated consecutive slot intervals may partially overlap each other in time, or do not overlap (i.e., they are completely non-overlapping) . Additionally, in some of these implementations, the predicted PMI are reported in one CSI report. As shown in Fig. 8, the CSI-RS in SBFD symbols and CSI-RS in non-SBFD symbols are separately used for predicted PMI calculation and the predicted PMI indicates predicted precoder matrices associated with separate consecutive slot intervals start at slot l1=n+δ1 and l2=n+δ2 respectively. In some implementations such as shown in Fig. 8, the predicted PMI are reported in one CSI report, such as in slot n. In addition or alternatively, in any of various of these implementations, the CSI reference resource for SBFD symbols and non-SBFD symbols can be same or different.

[0054] In other implementations of predicted PMI calculation and reporting, predicted PMI is calculated and reported based on CSI-RS on SBFD symbols and non-SBFD symbols independent  of each other. In some of these implementations, predicted PMI based on CSI-RS on SBFD symbols and non-SBFD symbols indicates predicted precoder matrices associated with independent consecutive slot intervals. In any of various of these implementations, the independent consecutive slot intervals may partially overlap in time or do not overlap. In addition or alternatively, in some implementations, the predicted PMI for SBFD symbols and non-SBFD symbols are reported in separate CSI reports. In addition or alternatively, the CSI-RS in SBFD symbols and the CSI-RS in non-SBFD symbols are separately used for predicted PMI calculation, and the predicted PMI indicates predicted precoder matrices associated with separate consecutive slot intervals start at slot l1=n1+δ1 and l2=n2+δ2 respectively. In addition or alternatively, in some of these implementations, the predicted PMI are reported in separate CSI reports, such as in slots n1 and n2. In addition or alternatively, in some of these implementations, the CSI reference resource for SBFD symbols and non-SBFD symbols is the same or different.

[0055] In sum, the downlink reference signals in SBFD symbols and in non-SBFD symbols may be used in combination or separate or independent of each other for predicted PMI calculation and / or reporting. Such implementations may achieve better performance in terms of latency reduction and / or capacity improvement. In addition or alternatively, such implementations may provide more accurate predicted PMI, such as through use of different types of symbols.

[0056] Embodiment 2

[0057] Additionally, in some implementations, beam prediction in the time and / or spatial domain may be performed, which may reduce overhead and / or latency and / or may enable improvement in beam selection accuracy. Some implementations of beam prediction may be performed without support or utilization of SBFD. In such implementations, measurements based on a Set B of beams may be used as model input to an artificial intelligence (AI) and / or machine learning (ML) (collectively referred to herein as AI / ML) model. In addition, beam ID information may be also provided as input to the AI / ML model. Based on model output (e.g., probability of each beam in a Set A of beams to be the Top-1 (or highest ranked) beam, including with predicted layer 1 (L1) -reference signal received power (RSRP) ) , a Top-1 / N beam (s) among the Set A of beams may also be predicted, including with predicted L1-RSRPs, which may depend on labeling in some implementations.

[0058] Additionally, in a first example implementation of beam management (BM-Case 1) , the measurements of Set B are used as model input to predict a Top-1 / N beams from Set A. In a second example implementation of beam management (BM-Case 2) , the measurements from one or more historic time instances are used as model input for temporal DL beam prediction of beams from Set A. In some of these implementations of BM-Case 1 and / or BM-Case 2, Set A and Set B are different (i.e., Set B is not a subset of Set A) , or Set B is a subset of Set A. In addition or alternatively, for some implementations of BM-Case 2, Set A and Set B are the same. In addition or alternatively, each beam may corresponds to one CSI-RS for beam management, and L1-RSRP is measured based on CSI-RS. In addition or alternatively, the predicted beam may be a DL transmit (Tx) beam or a DL transmit (Tx) -receive (Rx) beam pair. In addition or alternatively, for both BM-Case1 and BM-Case2, in some implementations, a user device 102 may report the prediction result to the network device 104 based on the output of a UE-side AI / ML model. In other implementations, the network device 104 may predict a Top-1 / N beam (s) based on the reported measurements of Set B for a network-side model. Fig. 9 shows an example diagram of model inputs and outputs of an AI / ML model, such as in accordance with BM-Case1 and BM-Case2.

[0059] Additionally, in some implementations, beam prediction may be performed with SBFD being utilized or supported. In some of these implementations, a predicted beam may be derived based on CSI-RS in SBFD time units (e.g., symbols or slots) and CSI-RS in non-SBFD time units (e.g., symbols or slots) in combination or independent of each other.

[0060] In some of these implementations, beam prediction based on CSI-RS on SBFD symbols and non-SBFD symbols may be determined for both the SBFD symbols and the non-SBFD symbols. In addition or alternatively, in some of these implementations, a set A of beams are the same for the SBFD symbols and non-SBFD symbols, and the set B of beams are independently determined for the SBFD symbols and the non-SBFD symbols. In turn, such implementations may include a set B1 of beams for the SBFD symbols, and a set B2 of beams for the non-SBFD symbols. In any of various of these implementations, the number of beams in set B1 for the SBFD symbols is the same as or different than the number of beams in set B2 for the non-SBFD symbols. In implementations where the number of beams in sets B1 and B2 are the same, an index of beams  used for set B1 can be same as or different from the detailed index of beams used for set B2. In addition or alternatively, in some implementations, a top N1 beams (e.g., beams with a top N1 L1-RSRP) may be predicted among the set A of beams for the SBFD symbols, which may be the same as a top N2 beams (e.g., beams with a top N2 L1-RSRP) predicted among the set A of beams for the non-SBFD symbols. To illustrate, the CSI-RS in SBFD symbols and the CSI-RS in non-SBFD symbols may be used in combination for beam prediction, and one AI / ML model is used with the same set B of beams for SBFD symbols and non-SBFD symbols. In other implementations, such as shown in Fig. 10, the CSI-RS in SBFD symbols and the CSI-RS in non-SBFD symbols are separately used for beam prediction with one AI / ML model, in that a set B1 of beams for SBFD symbols and a separate or independent set B2 of beams for non-SBFD symbols are used as separate inputs to an AI / ML model to output a predicted set A of beams common for the SBFD symbols and the non-SBFD symbols.

[0061] In other implementations of beam prediction supported or utilized with SBFD, a set A1 of beams specific to the SBFD symbols and a set A2 of beams specific to the non-SBFD symbols may be predicted based on a set B of beams common to the SBFD and non-SBFD symbols. In still other implementations, sets A1 and A2 may be predicted based on separate or independent sets B1, B2 of beams specific to the SBFD symbols and the non-SBFD symbols, respectively, using only AI / ML model or multiple AI / ML models. In any of various of these implementations, the top N1 beams (or beams with a top N1 L1-RSRPs) predicted among set A1 of beams for SBFD symbols is the same as or different from the top N2 beams (or beams with a top N2 of L1-RSRPs) predicted among set A2 of beams for the non-SBFD symbols. As used herein, N1 and N2 are each integers. Also, in any of various of these implementations, N1 is equal to N2, and / or the detailed index of N1 beams is the same as or different from the detailed index of N2 beams. In other implementations, N1 is less than or larger than N2. In some implementations where N1 is less than N2, the detailed index of N1 beams is a subset of the detailed index of N2 beams. Additionally, in some implementations where N1 is larger than N2, the detailed index of N2 beams is the subset of the detailed index of N1 beams.

[0062] In further detail, in some implementations, beam prediction may be based on CSI-RS in SBFD symbols and CSI-RS in non-SBFD symbols in combination. For example, as illustrated in  Fig. 11, a set B of beams common to the SBFD symbols and the non-SBFD symbols may be input to one AI / ML model, which may output independent or separate predicted sets A1 and A2 of beams specific to the SBFD symbols and the non-SBFD symbols, respectively.

[0063] In other implementations as illustrated in Figs. 12 and 13, the CSI-RS in SBFD symbols and the CSI-RS in non-SBFD symbols are separate used for beam prediction. For example, a set B1 specific to the SBFD symbols is used to predict a set A1 specific to the SBFD symbols, and a set B2 specific to the non-SBFD symbols is used to a set A2 specific to the non-SBFD symbols. In the implementation in Fig. 12, one AI / ML model is used to perform the predictions for both set A1 and set A2. For example, as shown in Fig. 12, both set B1 and set B2 are input to the same, single AI / ML model. In contrast, in the implementation in Fig. 13, different or separate AI / ML models are used to predict the sets A1 and A2. For example, the set B1 is provided as an input to a first AI / ML model to predict the set A1, and the set B2 is provided as an input to a second AI / ML model to predict the set A2.

[0064] In other implementations, including those implementing BM-Case2 described above, regardless of whether a set B common to the SBFD and non-SBFD symbols, or different sets B1 and B2 specific to the SBFD and non-SBFD symbols, respectively, historic time instance (s) used for beam measurements that are common to the SBFD symbols and the non-SBFD symbols, or that include first historic time instance (s) specific to the SBFD symbols and second historic time instance (s) specific to the non-SBFD symbols may be configured, determined, and / or used for beam prediction. In some implementations, the historic time instance (s) used for beam measurements for non-SBFD symbols may include the historic time instance (s) used for beam measurements for SBFD symbols. Additionally, in some implementations, beam prediction based on CSI-RS on SBFD symbols and non-SBFD symbols using historic time instance (s) may be performed to determine predicted beams in common for the SBFD symbols and the non-SBFD symbols, or to determine first predicted beams specific to the SBFD symbols and second predict beams specific to the non-SBFD symbols. In addition or alternatively, a set B of beams common to the SBFD symbols and the non-SBFD symbols may be input to an AI / ML model, or a first set of beams B1 specific to the SBFD symbols and a second set of beams B2 specific to the non-SBFD symbols may be input to one AI / ML model or multiple AI / ML models in any of various  implementations. In addition or alternatively, the one or more AI / ML models may output or predict a top N1 beams (or beams with a top N1 L1-RSRPs) among a set A of beams common to the SBFD symbols and the non-SBFD symbols, or may output or predict a top N1 beams (or beams with a top N1 L1-RSRPs) specific to the SBFD symbols that is different or separate from a top N2 beams (or beams with a top N2 L1-RSRPs) are predicted among set A2 of beams specific to the non-SBFD symbols.

[0065] Additionally, in any of various implementations in the context of beam prediction, a beam may include or correspond to CSI resource index. In addition or alternatively, a beam set (e.g., any of sets A, B, A1, A2, B1, B2 as previously described) may include or correspond to a CSI resource index set, a CSI resource set, a CSI resource group, or any of various combinations thereof.

[0066] In addition or alternatively, beam prediction may be performed in conjunction with and / or beam operation. In any of various implementations of the wireless communication system 100, including those implementation NR, multi beam operation may be performed, where every signal and / or channel is transmitted on a directional beam. To perform multi-beam operations, beamforming may be performed to achieve higher throughput and sufficient coverage, especially in high frequency ranges. For DL transmission beamforming, the network device (e.g., a gNB) applies transmission beamforming to synchronization signal (SS)  / physical broadcast channel (PBCH) blocks (SSB) and / or CSI-RS transmissions, and a user device 102 measures reference signal received power (RSRP) on physical layer (L1-RSRP) on the configured SS / PBCH block and / or CSI-RS resource. Additionally, the user device 102 may report the SS / PBCH block or CSI-RS resource with the maximum L1-RSRP value as a L1-RSRP beam reporting. The network device 104 (e.g., gNB) may decide gNB transmission beamforming for the user device 102 based on the reported L1-RSRP. For PDCCH / PDSCH transmission, the network device 104 (e.g., gNB) may inform the user device 102 that gNB transmission beamforming applied to a certain SS / PBCH block or CSI-RS resource is applied to the PDCCH / PDSCH transmission so that user device 102 can apply a reception beamforming which fits into the gNB transmission beamforming.

[0067] In sum, beam prediction may be performed based on downlink reference signals (e.g., CSI-RS) in SBFD symbols and non-SBFD symbols in combination or independent of each other.  This, in turn, may be used to achieve better performance in terms of latency reduction and / or capacity improvement. In addition or alternatively, beam prediction using different types of symbols (e.g., SBFD symbols and non-SBFD symbols) may provide more accurately predicted beams.

[0068] Embodiment 3

[0069] Additionally, in some implementations, CSI measurement and report for coherent joint transmission (CJT) with multi-transmission reception point (TRP) may be supported without SBFD configured. In some of these implementations, up to K (e.g. K=4) non-zero power (NZP) CSI-RS resources may be used as a channel measurement resource (CMR) , where each NZP CSI-RS resource may represent a TRP. In particular of these implementations, the K resources are configured within the same slot or two adjacent slots.

[0070] Additionally, in other implementations, CSI measurement and report for coherent joint transmission (CJT) with multi-TRP is supported or utilized with SBFD configured. In some of these implementations, up to K (e.g. K=4) NZP CSI-RS resources may be used as the CMR, where each NZP CSI-RS applied or received in both SBFD symbols and non-SBFD symbols may represent a TRP. In some of these implementations, the K NZP CSI-RS resources are configured within the same slot or two adjacent same or different type of slots, such as in accordance with one or more of the following first through third schemes.

[0071] In a first scheme, the K resources are configured within the same non-SBFD slot or two adjacent non-SBFD slots. For example, the K resources are not, or cannot be, configured within the SBFD slot (s) . In some of these implementations, the two adjacent non-SBFD slots are consecutive two slots, meaning that one or more SBFD symbols / slots cannot be located in between the two adjacent non-SBFD slots.

[0072] In a second scheme, the K resources are configured within the same slot or two adjacent slots with a same type. For example, the two adjacent slots may be two adjacent SBFD slots, or two adjacent non-SBFD slots. In some of these implementations, the two adjacent slots are consecutive two slots with the same type, meaning that one or more symbols or slots of a different type cannot be located between the two adjacent slots with the same type. For example, the K resources are  configured within the same slot or two adjacent non-SBFD slots, and the two adjacent non-SBFD slots are consecutive two slots, such that one or more SBFD symbols or slots cannot be located or inserted between the two adjacent non-SBFD slots. For another example, the K resources are configured within the same slot or two adjacent SBFD slots, and the two adjacent SBFD slots are consecutive two slots, such that one or more non-SBFD symbols or slots cannot be located or inserted between the two adjacent SBFD slots.

[0073] In a third scheme, the K resources are configured within the same slot or two adjacent slots with different types. For example, the two adjacent slots are two consecutive slots, including a first slot and a second slot, where the first slot is a non-SBFD slot and the second slot is a SBFD slot, or the first slot is a SBFD slot and the second slot is a non-SBFD slot.

[0074] Additionally, in some implementations, up to K (e.g. K=8) NZP CSI-RS resources may be used as the CMR, where each two NZP CSI-RS received in SBFD symbols and non-SBFD symbols may represent a TRP. In some of these implementations, K NZP CSI-RS resources are configured within the same slot or two adjacent same or different type of slots, such as in accordance with one or more of the following fourth or fifth schemes.

[0075] In a fourth scheme, the K resources with each two NZP CSI-RS received in two types of symbols (e.g., SBFD symbols and non-SBFD symbols) are configured within the same slot or two pairs of adjacent slots, where the two pairs have different types from each other. For example, the two pairs of adjacent slots include a first pair of two adjacent SBFD slots and a second pair of two adjacent non-SBFD slots. The two adjacent slots may be consecutive two slots of the same type. For example, half of the K resources are configured within the same slot or two adjacent non-SBFD slots, and the other half of the K resources are configured within the same slot or two adjacent SBFD slots. In some of these implementations, the two adjacent SBFD slots are consecutive two slots, meaning that one or more non-SBFD symbols or slots may not or cannot be located or inserted between the two adjacent SBFD slots. In other of these implementations, the two adjacent non-SBFD slots are consecutive two slots, meaning that one or more SBFD symbols or slots may not or cannot be located or positioned between the two adjacent SBFD slots.

[0076] In a fifth scheme, the K resources with each two NZP CSI-RS received in SBFD symbols and non-SBFD symbols are configured within the same slot or two adjacent slots with  different types. For example, the two adjacent slots may be two consecutive slots, including a first slot and a second slot, where the first slot is a non-SBFD slot and the second slot is a SBFD slot, or the first slot is a SBFD slot and the second slot is a non-SBFD slot.

[0077] Additionally, in some embodiments, where CSI-RS in one slot of the configured two adjacent slots is not available with a SBFD operation, the measurement and / or report for coherent joint transmission multi-TRP with SBFD configured may fall back to CSI for coherent joint transmission without SBFD configured. In addition or alternatively, where CSI-RS in one slot of the configured two adjacent slots is not available with an SBFD operation, the measurement and / or report for coherent joint transmission multi-TRP with SBFD configured will be performed based on the other slot. In addition or alternatively, where CSI-RS in one slot of the configured two adjacent slots is not available with an SBFD operation, an aperiodic CSI-RS may be transmitted in the UL sub-band, and the measurement and / or report for coherent joint transmission multi-TRP with SBFD configured may be operated based on the two slots.

[0078] In sum, coherent joint transmission may be performed based on downlink reference signals (e.g., CSI-RS) in SBFD symbols and non-SBFD symbols in combination or independent of each other. This, in turn, may allow SBFD with an UL sub-band to be implemented to achieve better performance in terms of latency reduction and / or capacity improvement. In addition or alternatively, more accurate channel measurement for each TRP may be achieved by using different types (e.g., SBFD and non-SBFD) of symbols.

[0079] Embodiment 4

[0080] In addition, in some implementations, CSI measurement and report for time-domain channel property (TDCP) may be performed without SBFD being configured. In at least some of these implementations, a normalized wideband amplitude of time-domain auto-correlation and a phase of the time-domain auto-correlation may be reported. In addition or alternatively, in some of these implementations, K resources are configured within the same slot or two adjacent slots.

[0081] In further detail, TDCP is a metric to reflect the variability of the channel caused by the mobility of the user device 102. Additionally, TDCP may be measured by the user device 102 through DL CSI-RS and reported to the network device 104. In response, the network device 104  may apply different configurations to provide better data transmission services for user devices 102 with different moving speeds. Further, in some implementations, TDCP is defined as wideband normalized correlation between two CSI-RS transmission occasions, corresponding to CSI-RS resource (s) from NZP-CSI-RS-ResourceSet (s) configured with higher layer parameter trs-info, that are separated by Dn symbols or slots, depending on the configuration, where Dn is the n-th delay configured value among delay values {D1, …, DY} and Y is number of configured delay values.

[0082] Additionally, in some implementations, CSI measurement and report for time-domain channel property (TDCP) may be performed with SBFD being configured. In some of these implementations, a wideband normalized correlation between two CSI-RS transmission occasions in SBFD symbols and / or non-SBFD symbols may be determined. In particularly of these implementations, wideband normalized correction is determined between two CSI-RS transmission occasions transmitted in the same type of symbol or slot or in different types of symbols or slots, such as in accordance with the following first through third schemes.

[0083] In a first scheme, a wideband normalized correlation is determined between two CSI-RS transmission occasions are only where the two CSI-RS transmission occasions are transmitted in non-SBFD symbols or slots. That is, the wideband normalized correction is not determined for two CSI-RS transmission occasions transmitted in SBFD slot (s) .

[0084] In a second scheme, a wideband normalized correlation is determined between two CSI-RS transmission occasions transmitted in the same type of symbols or slots. That is, a wideback normalized correlation is determined between two CSI-RS transmission occasions both transmitted in SBFD symbols or slots, or both transmitted in non-SBFD symbols or slots. In some of these implementations, two wideband normalized correlations may be determined for four CSI-RS transmission occasions, including a first wideband normalized correlation between two CSI-RS transmission occasions transmitted in SBFD symbols, and a second wideband normalized correlation between the other two CSI-RS transmission occasions transmitted in the non-SBFD symbols. In some of these implementations, for periodic tracking reference signals (TRS) , which includes CSI-RS for tracking, independent periodic TRS (e.g. K TRS larger than 1) are configured for SBFD symbols and non-SBFD symbols, respectively.

[0085] In a third scheme, a wideband normalized correlation may be determined between two CSI-RS transmission occasions transmitted in the same or different types of symbols or slots. For example, a wideband normalized correlation may be determined between two CSI-RS transmission occasions transmitted in symbols or slots that are both SBFD symbols or slots, both non-SBFD symbols or slots, or one slot is a SBFD symbol or slot and the other slot is a non-SBFD symbol or slot.

[0086] In sum, CSI measurement and reporting for TDCP may be performed based on downlink reference signals (e.g., CSI-RS) in SBFD symbols and non-SBFD symbols in combination or independent of each other. In turn, SBFD with an UL sub-band may be implemented to achieve better performance in terms of latency reduction and / or capacity improvement. In addition or alternatively, more accurate normalized wideband amplitude and phase of time-domain auto-correlation may be determined using different types (e.g., SBFD and non-SBFD) of symbols.

[0087] Embodiment 5

[0088] Additionally, in some implementations, reporting of a multi-CSI report may be performed without SBFD being configured, utilized, or implemented. In at least some of these implementations, a user device 102 may report N CSI sub-report (s) in one reporting instance, where N is an integer of one or more. This may performed by the network device 104 configuring L sub-configurations in a CSI report setting, where L is greater than or equal to N, and where each sub-configuration includes parameters for either spatial domain (SD) adaptation or power domain (PD) adaptation.

[0089] Additionally, in some other implementations, a multi-CSI report may be performed in one reporting with SBFD being configured, utilized, or implemented. Such implementations may enables a user device to report N CSI sub-report (s) in one reporting instance, where N is an integer of one or more. For at least some of these implementations, the downlink reference signals in SBFD symbols and non-SBFD symbols may be used in combination or independent of each other for multi-CSI report in one reporting. In some of these implementations, each sub-configuration includes parameters for either spatial domain (SD) adaptation or power domain (PD) adaptation  and for the same type or different types of symbols or slots, such as in accordance with one or more of the following first through third schemes.

[0090] In a first scheme, each sub-configuration may include one or more parameters for either spatial domain (SD) adaptation or power domain (PD) adaptation and for a same type of symbols or slots. For example, a first sub-configuration may include parameters for spatial domain (SD) adaptation and for non-SBFD symbols, and a second sub-configuration may include parameters for power domain (PD) adaptation and for SBFD symbols.

[0091] In a second scheme, each sub-configuration may include parameters for all types of symbols or slots and either spatial domain (SD) adaptation or power domain (PD) adaptation. For example, a first sub-configuration may include parameters for spatial domain (SD) adaptation and for both non-SBFD symbols and SBFD symbols, and a second sub-configuration may include parameters for power domain (PD) adaptation and for both non-SBFD symbols and SBFD symbols.

[0092] In a third scheme, each sub-configuration may include parameters for one type of symbols or slots and either spatial domain (SD) adaptation or power domain (PD) adaptation. For example, a first sub-configuration may include parameters for spatial domain (SD) adaptation and for non-SBFD symbols, a second sub-configuration may include parameters for power domain (PD) adaptation and for SBFD symbols, a third sub-configuration may include parameters for spatial domain (SD) adaptation and for SBFD symbols, and a fourth sub-configuration may include parameters for power domain (PD) adaptation and for non-SBFD symbols.

[0093] In sum, multi-CSI reporting in a single report may be performed based on downlink reference signals (e.g., CSI-RS) in SBFD symbols and non-SBFD symbols in combination or independent of each other. This, in turn, may allow for implementation of SBFD with an UL sub-band, which may achieve better performance in terms of latency reduction and / or capacity improvement. In addition or alternatively, more accurate multi-CSI reporting in one report may be achieved by using different types (e.g., SBFD and non-SBFD) of symbols.

[0094] Embodiment 6

[0095] Additionally, in some implementations, CSI Processing Unit (CPU) occupation may be employed without SBFD being configured. For at least some of these implementations, CPU occupation OCPU=Ks, where Ks is the number of CSI-RS resources in a CSI-RS resource set for channel measurement. In case L sub-configurations are provided,  for CSI reporting, where is the total number of CSI-RS resources corresponding to the i-th sub-configuration. In implementations where CSI for TDCP are configured, OCPU= (Y+1) ·X, with a number of delays Y configured by a higher layer parameter Y, where the value of X∈ {1, 2} is reported by UE capability. In addition or alternatively, in implementations where CSI-RS for channel measurement is configured with 1<NTRP≤4 resources, OCPU=ceil (X·NTRP) , where X∈ {1, 1.5, 2} is reported by UE capability indication.

[0096] Additionally, in some other implementations, CSI Processing Unit (CPU) occupation may be employed or utilized with SBFD being configured. In at least some of these implementations, CSI Processing Unit Occupation may be performed based on downlink reference signals in SBFD symbols and non-SBFD symbols in combination or independent of each other. In particular of these implementations, CPU occupation for SBFD CSI generation may be determined using one or more of the following first through fifth schemes.

[0097] In a first scheme,  for CSI reporting, where is the total number of CSI-RS resources corresponding to the i-th sub-configuration that may used for both SBFD symbols and non-SBFD symbols.

[0098] In a second scheme,  for CSI reporting, where is the total number of CSI-RS resources corresponding to the i-th sub-configuration that may be used for both SBFD symbols and non-SBFD symbols, and two CSI-RS transmitted in the SBFD symbols and non-SBFD symbols are linked.

[0099] In a third scheme, CPU occupation is half of that with SBFD configured compared to if not configured. For example,  for CSI reporting, where is the total number of CSI-RS resources in the CSI-RS resource set for channel measurement for SBFD symbols and for non-SBFD symbols, and two CSI-RS transmitted in the SBFD symbols and non-SBFD symbols are linked.

[0100] In a fourth scheme, OCPU=ceil (X·Nsubband) for CSI reporting, where Nsubband is the number of configured UL, DL, or both UL and DL subbands. In addition, in some of these implementations, X is a default or predetermined number, such as 1 or another integer, or can be reported by UE capability indication.

[0101] In a fifth scheme, whether or not SBFD is utilized with CPU occupation, CPU occupation is doubled with SBFD configured compared to if not configured, assuming all other conditions are the same.

[0102] In sum, CPU occupation may be performed based on downlink reference signals (e.g., CSI-RS) in SBFD symbols and non-SBFD symbols in combination or independent of each other. This, in turn, may enable SBFD with a Uls sub-band to be implemented, which may in turn, achieve better performance in terms of latency reduction and / or capacity improvement. In addition or alternatively, more accurate CPU occupation could be achieved by using different types (e.g., SBFD and non-SBFD) of symbols.

[0103] Embodiment 7

[0104] Additionally, in some implementations of a single-cell operation, when an active DL bandwidth part (BWP) of a serving cell is switched after being scheduled by a DL DCI format and the DL DCI format does not trigger the BWP switching, the user device 102 may not include hybrid automatic response request (HARQ) -acknowledgement (ACK) information bits associated with the DL DCI format in a HARQ-ACK codebook.

[0105] Similar behavior may be considered for a DCI format 1_3 scheduling on cells from a set of serving cells. A first radio access network (RAN) node RAN1 may need to determine or clarify a corresponding behavior of a user device 102, such as whether the HARQ-ACK information bits are skipped only for the cell with a BWP change or for the entire DCI.

[0106] In situations where the HARQ-ACK information bits are skipped for the entire DCI, that is, if the active DL BWP of one of co-scheduled cells is changed after the scheduling DCI format 1_3, the HARQ-ACK feedback for all of the PDSCHs on multiple cells scheduled by the DCI format 1_3 are dropped.

[0107] Additionally, in situations where the HARQ-ACK information bits are skipped only for the cell with a BWP change, that is, when a PDCCH monitoring occasion (MO) that provides a DCI format 1_3 is before an active DL BWP change on a cell of co-scheduled cells by the DCI format 1_3, and the DCI format 1_3 does not trigger the active DL BWP change for the cell, and the PUCCH indicated by the DCI format 1_3 is to be transmitted after the active DL BWP change on the cell, the one or more of the following may occur. For a type 2 codebook for generating a second sub-codebook, the corresponding HARQ-ACK information for that cell with BWP switching is generated with a negative acknowledgment (NACK) bit; and / or for a type 1 codebook and for the type 2 codebook for generating the first sub-codebook, the corresponding HARQ-ACK information for that cell with BWP switching is skipped.

[0108] Additionally, if the HARQ-ACK skipping for the second sub-codebook is only for the cell with BWP switching, although the codebook size may be determined without ambiguity, the HARQ timing for determining the start of K1, which is a time offset of PDSCH to HARQ-ACK feedback, such as in the form of K1 slots, may be ambiguous. For example as shown in Fig. 14, DCI format 1_3 carried in PDCCH on the scheduling is used to schedule PDSCHs on cell #0, 1, 2, 3 from a set of serving cells #0, 1, 2, 3, the last PDSCH among the multi-cell scheduling is on cell#0 in a cell set with cell #0, 1, 2, 3. If the cell with BWP switching is cell #0, the start of K1 is not certain due to the actual time of the BWP switching with sub-carrier spacing (SCS) change not being certain before or after the PDSCH. This is also the why a skipped HARQ-ACK is introduced for BWP switching.

[0109] For example, Fig. 15 shows another example of multi-cell scheduling. As shown in Fig Y, DCI format 1_3 carried in PDCCH on the scheduling is used to schedule PDSCHs on cell #0,1, 2, 3 from a set of serving cells #0, 1, 2, 3. The last PDSCH among the multi-cell scheduling is on cell #1 in a cell set with cell #0, 1, 2, 3. If the cell with BWP switching is cell #1, the start of K1 is not certain, similar to the example in Fig. 14. Additionally, if the cell with BWP switching is cell #0, the start of K1 is also not certain when determining the start of the K1 on PUCCH cell.

[0110] In order to avoid the above ambiguities, at least one of following schemes can be implemented.

[0111] In a first scheme, the HARQ-ACK skipping for the second sub-codebook is performed per cell in case of BWP switching on a cell, if the last PDSCH is not scheduled on the cell and / or the cell is not the PUCCH cell or the primary cell (PCell) .

[0112] In a second scheme, the HARQ-ACK skipping for the second sub-codebook is performed per cell in case of BWP switching on a cell, if the last PDSCH is not scheduled on the cell and the cell is not the PUCCH cell or PCell. Otherwise, HARQ-ACK skipping for the second sub-codebook is performed per DCI in case of BWP switching on a cell.

[0113] In a third scheme, in case HARQ-ACK information bits are skipped only for the cell with an BWP change, that is, when a PDCCH MO that provides a DCI format 1_3 is before an active DL BWP change on a cell of co-scheduled cells by the DCI format 1_3, then the DCI format 1_3 does not trigger the active DL BWP change for the cell, and the PUCCH indicated by the DCI format 1_3 is to be transmitted after the active DL BWP change on the cell if the last PDSCH is not scheduled on the cell and / or the cell is not the PUCCH cell or PCell, In some implementations of the third scheme, for a type 2 codebook for generating the second sub-codebook, the corresponding HARQ-ACK information for that cell with BWP switching is generated with NACK bit. In addition or alternatively, in some implementations of the third scheme, for a type 1 codebook and for a type 2 codebook for generating the first sub-codebook, the corresponding HARQ-ACK information for that cell with BWP switching is skipped.

[0114] In a fourth scheme, in case HARQ-ACK information bits are skipped only for the cell with a BWP change, that is, when a PDCCH MO that provides a DCI format 1_3 is before an active DL BWP change on a cell of co-scheduled cells by the DCI format 1_3, then the DCI format 1_3 does not trigger the active DL BWP change for the cell, and the PUCCH indicated by the DCI format 1_3 is to be transmitted after the active DL BWP change on the cell if the last PDSCH is scheduled on the cell and / or the cell is the PUCCH cell or PCell, In some implementations of the fourth scheme, for type 2 codebook for generating the second sub-codebook, the corresponding HARQ-ACK information for the second sub-codebook is skipped, or optionally is generated with NACK bit. In addition or alternatively, in some implementations of the fourth scheme, for type 1 codebook and for type 2 codebook for generating the first sub-codebook, the corresponding HARQ-ACK information for that cell with BWP switching is skipped.

[0115] Embodiment 8

[0116] For a deployment scenario with frequency range 1 (FR1) TDD PCell + frequency range 2 (FR2) TDD SCell, the DL performance for a cell-edge user device 102 in a FR2 SCell may be impacted by the coverage of the corresponding HARQ-ACK feedback. To ensure the UL coverage of HARQ-ACK for a FR2 SCell, one way is to configure only one PUCCH cell group to allow HARQ-ACK of the FR2 SCell to be transmitted in a PCell.

[0117] In the context of this deployment scenario, a sufficient number of HARQ process numbers may be used based on the following scheduling restriction: the user device 102 is not expected to receive another PDSCH for a given HARQ process until after the end of an expected transmission of HARQ-ACK for that HARQ process.

[0118] If only a maximum of 16 HARQ process numbers is supported, the FR2 DL peak rate for a user device 102 may be reduced. In the above scenarios, only the HARQ-ACK feedback latency is considered. However, the round trip time (RTT) also includes the additional processing time at the network (e.g., gNB) side between HARQ-ACK feedback and another PDSCH transmission. The additional processing time may include PUCCH processing time and other latency (e.g., interaction latency between different cells) . Therefore, more HARQ process numbers are actually needed in above scenarios.

[0119] Additionally, if the maximum number of HARQ process numbers cannot be increased or even is further reduced due to HARQ buffer limitation, e.g. 8 HARQ process numbers, at least one of the following schemes may be implemented.

[0120] In a first scheme, a user device 102 expects to receive only one additional PDSCH for a given HARQ process before the end of the expected transmission of HARQ-ACK for that HARQ process.

[0121] In a second scheme, a user device 102 expects to receive only one additional PDSCH for a given HARQ process before the start of the expected transmission of HARQ-ACK for that HARQ process.

[0122] In a third scheme, the user device 102 may receive another one or more PDSCHs for a given HARQ process before the end or start of the expected transmission of HARQ-ACK for that  HARQ process, and the last PDSCH with NACK feedback may be re-transmitted for the given HARQ process. In some of these implementations, any redundancy version (e.g. RV0, RV1, RV2, RV3) or only some of the redundancy versions (e.g. only RV0 or RV3) may be used for the re-transmitted PDSCH.

[0123] In a fourth scheme, if a user device 102 receives one or more PDSCHs for a given HARQ process before the end or start of the expected transmission of HARQ-ACK for that HARQ process, and if the UE receives a re-transmission for that HARQ process, the re-transmission corresponds to the last PDSCH or transport block (TB) among the PDSCHs for which the user device 102 generates a NACK. In some implementations of the fourth scheme, any Redundancy version (e.g. RV0, RV1, RV2, RV3) or only some of the Redundancy versions (e.g. only RV0 or RV3) may be used for the re-transmission.

[0124] In a fifth scheme, if a user device 102 receives one or more PDSCHs for a given HARQ process before the end or start of the expected transmission of HARQ-ACK for that HARQ process, and if the user device 102 receives a re-transmission for that HARQ process, the re-transmission corresponds to the last PDSCH or TB among the PDSCHs that is not successfully received. In some implementations of the fifth scheme, any Redundancy version (e.g. RV0, RV1, RV2, RV3) or only some of the Redundancy versions (e.g. RV0 or RV3) may be used for the re-transmission.

[0125] To illustrate, Fig. 16 shows a timing diagram of PDSCH transmissions and associated HARQ-ACK feedback. In the example in Fig. 16, the same HARQ process number P1 (P1 is an integer, e.g. P1=1) is used for both PDSCH1 and PDSCH2. Additionally, PDSCH2, which is after PDSCH1, may be transmitted before the end or start of the HARQ-ACK feedback for that HARQ process. In case the HARQ-ACK feedback for PDSCH1 and PDSCH2 are {ACK, ACK} , no re-transmission is needed. In case the HARQ-ACK feedback for PDSCH1 and PDSCH2 are {ACK, NACK} , a re-transmission is performed for PDSCH2. In case the HARQ-ACK feedback for PDSCH1 and PDSCH2 are {NACK, ACK} , a re-transmission is performed for PDSCH1. In some of these implementations, RV 0 or RV3 may be used for the re-tansmission. In case the HARQ-ACK feedback for PDSCH1 and PDSCH2 are {NACK, NACK} , a re-transmission is performed for PDSCH2.

[0126] The description and accompanying drawings above provide specific example embodiments and implementations. The described subject matter may, however, be embodied in a variety of different forms and, therefore, covered or claimed subject matter is intended to be construed as not being limited to any example embodiments set forth herein. A reasonably broad scope for claimed or covered subject matter is intended. Among other things, for example, subject matter may be embodied as methods, devices, components, systems, or non-transitory computer-readable media for storing computer codes. Accordingly, embodiments may, for example, take the form of hardware, software, firmware, storage media or any combination thereof. For example, the method embodiments described above may be implemented by components, devices, or systems including memory and processors by executing computer codes stored in the memory.

[0127] Throughout the specification and claims, terms may have nuanced meanings suggested or implied in context beyond an explicitly stated meaning. Likewise, the phrase “in one embodiment / implementation” as used herein does not necessarily refer to the same embodiment and the phrase “in another embodiment / implementation” as used herein does not necessarily refer to a different embodiment. It is intended, for example, that claimed subject matter includes combinations of example embodiments in whole or in part.

[0128] In general, terminology may be understood at least in part from usage in context. For example, terms, such as “and” , “or” , or “and / or, ” as used herein may include a variety of meanings that may depend at least in part on the context in which such terms are used. Typically, “or” if used to associate a list, such as A, B or C, is intended to mean A, B, and C, here used in the inclusive sense, as well as A, B or C, here used in the exclusive sense. In addition, the term “one or more” as used herein, depending at least in part upon context, may be used to describe any feature, structure, or characteristic in a singular sense or may be used to describe combinations of features, structures or characteristics in a plural sense. Similarly, terms, such as “a, ” “an, ” or “the, ” may be understood to convey a singular usage or to convey a plural usage, depending at least in part upon context. In addition, the term “based on” may be understood as not necessarily intended to convey an exclusive set of factors and may, instead, allow for existence of additional factors not necessarily expressly described, again, depending at least in part on context.

[0129] Reference throughout this specification to features, advantages, or similar language does not imply that all of the features and advantages that may be realized with the present solution should be or are included in any single implementation thereof. Rather, language referring to the features and advantages is understood to mean that a specific feature, advantage, or characteristic described in connection with an embodiment is included in at least one embodiment of the present solution. Thus, discussions of the features and advantages, and similar language, throughout the specification may, but do not necessarily, refer to the same embodiment.

[0130] Furthermore, the described features, advantages and characteristics of the present solution may be combined in any suitable manner in one or more embodiments. One of ordinary skill in the relevant art will recognize, in light of the description herein, that the present solution can be practiced without one or more of the specific features or advantages of a particular embodiment. In other instances, additional features and advantages may be recognized in certain embodiments that may not be present in all embodiments of the present solution.
