[0019] In general, terminology may be understood at least in part from usage in context. For example, terms, such as “and” , “or” , or “and / or, ” as used herein may include a variety of meanings that may depend at least in part upon the context in which such terms are used. Typically, “or” if used to associate a list, such as A, B or C, is intended to mean A, B, and C, here used in the  inclusive sense, as well as A, B or C, here used in the exclusive sense. In addition, the term “one or more” or “at least one” as used herein, depending at least in part upon context, may be used to describe any feature, structure, or characteristic in a singular sense or may be used to describe combinations of features, structures or characteristics in a plural sense. Similarly, terms, such as “a” , “an” , or “the” , again, may be understood to convey a singular usage or to convey a plural usage, depending at least in part upon context. In addition, the term “based on” or “determined by” may be understood as not necessarily intended to convey an exclusive set of factors and may, instead, allow for existence of additional factors not necessarily expressly described, again, depending at least in part on context.

[0020] The present disclosure describes methods and devices for indicating transmission of on-demand synchronization signal block (SSB) .

[0021] New generation (NG) mobile communication system are moving the world toward an increasingly connected and networked society. High-speed and low-latency wireless communications rely on efficient network resource management and allocation between user equipment and wireless access network nodes (including but not limited to wireless base stations) . A new generation network is expected to provide high speed, low latency and ultra-reliable communication capabilities and fulfil the requirements from different industries and users.

[0022] In some wireless communication schemes with the increase of wireless services, the high energy consumption of base stations may become one of the main reasons of the high operating expense. How to reduce the energy consumption of communication networks, achieve green, efficient, and sustainable development, and, at the same time, meet the requirements of communication network development has become an urgent problem to be solved. For a base station, transmissions of some common signals, for example, periodical transmissions of synchronization signal blocks (SSBs) , may account for a significant portion of its energy consumption.

[0039] In some implementations, the target cell is a network energy saving (NES) cell, a cell supporting on-demand SSB transmission, a cell indicated by the indication signaling, and / or a cell indicated to transmit or stop to transmit SSB.

[0040] In some implementations, in addition to a portion, an entire, or any combination of other implementation (s)  / embodiment (s) described in the present disclosure, the indication signaling comprises at least one of the following fields: a first field indicating an status of one or more secondary cells (SCells) or indicating an activation or deactivation operation of one or more SCells, a second field indicating whether to transmit the on-demand SSB on one or more SCells, a third field indicating a transmission mode of the on-demand SSB on one or more SCells, a fourth field indicating one or more serving cell identifiers (IDs) or SCell indexes, and / or a fifth field indicates one or more SSB frequency.

[0041] In some implementations, the indication signaling may include one bit to indicate all  deactivated SCells or all activated SCells. In some implementations, all SCells may refer to all SCells supporting on-demand SSB.

[0042] In some implementations, the first field comprises one or more first sub field indicates the status of one or more SCells. The i-th first sub field corresponds to a SCell or a set of SCells corresponding to index i. In some embodiments, when a SCell is referred, the index is the SCell index. In some other embodiments, when a set / group of SCells is referred, the index is the SCell group index, wherein the set / group of SCells includes one or more SCells.

[0043] In some implementations, the i-th first sub field indicates the status of the SCell (s) corresponding to index i. When the SCell (s) corresponding to index i does not exist, UE ignores the i-th first sub field.

[0044] In some implementations, the first field indicates whether the corresponding one or more SCells supports the on-demand SSB operation.

[0045] In some implementations, the first field indicates the activation / deactivation status of one or more SCells. In some embodiments, when the status of a SCell is different with the indication in indicated in the indication signaling, a SCell activation / deactivation operation will be performed.

[0046] In some implementations, the value of the i-th first sub field equals to ‘1’ to indicate an activated state of the corresponding SCell (s) . The value of the i-th first sub field equals to ‘0’ to indicate a deactivated state of the corresponding SCell (s) . Or vise versa.

[0047] In some implementations, the first field indicates a SCell activation / deactivation operation. In some embodiments, the i-th first sub field indicates an activated state. When the SCell corresponding to the i-th first sub field is in activated state, no SCell activation / deactivation operation will be performed. When the SCell corresponding to the i-th first sub field is in deactivated state, the SCell activation operation will be performed for the SCell. In some embodiments, the i-th first sub field indicates a deactivated state. When the SCell corresponding to the i-th first sub field is in activated state, a SCell deactivation operation will be performed. When the SCell corresponding to the i-th first sub field is in deactivated state, no SCell activation / deactivation operation will be performed.

[0048] In some implementations, the second field comprises one or more second sub field indicates whether or not to transmit on-demand SSB on one or more SCells.

[0049] In some implementations, the second field has two status. In some implementations, the second field in state one (e.g. the bit value is ‘1’ ) indicates to transmit on-demand SSB on the associated SCells. In some implementations, the second field in state two (e.g. the bit value is ‘0’ ) indicates not to / stop to transmit on-demand SSB on the associated SCells. In some implementations, the second field in state two (e.g. the bit value is ‘0’ ) indicates not to change the transmission of the SSB on the associated SCells. In some implementations, when the second field in state two, a UE may ignore the indication.

[0050] In some implementations, the i-th second sub field corresponds to a SCell (s) corresponding to index i. The i-th second sub field indicates whether or not to transmit on-demand SSB on the SCell (s) corresponding to index i. In some implementations, when the SCell (s) corresponding to index i does not exist, a UE may ignores the i-th second sub field.

[0051] In some implementations, the second field comprises one second sub field. In some implementations, the second field indicates whether to transmit on-demand SSB on all deactivated SCells. In some implementations, the second field indicates whether to transmit on-demand SSB on all SCells to be activated.

[0052] In some implementations, the on-demand SSBs are triggered for the SCell measurement, then network would determine which SCell should be activated for UE according to the measurement results. Therefore, the second field can indicate to transmit on-demand SSB on all deactivated SCells using one bit.

[0053] In some implementations, the third field comprises one or more third sub field indicates the on-demand SSB transmission mode on one or more SCells.

[0054] In some implementations, the i-th third sub field corresponds to a SCell (s) corresponding to index i. The i-th third sub field indicates the on-demand SSB transmission mode on the SCell (s) corresponding to index i. When the SCell (s) corresponding to index i does not exist, a UE may ignore the i-th third sub field.

[0055] In some implementations, the third field comprises one third sub field. In some  implementations, the one third sub field indicates the SSB transmission mode on all SCells that indicated to transmit on-demand SSB.

[0056] In some implementations, the third field or the third sub field indicates the SSB transmission mode index.

[0057] In some implementations, the fourth field indicates one or more severing cell IDs or SCell indexes. For example, the fourth field is carrier indication field.

[0058] In some implementations, the fifth field indicates one or more SSB frequency. In some implementations, the indication signaling further comprises a field to indicate a SSB frequency (or SSB frequency point) . In some implementations, when the fifth field exists, the SSB with SSB frequency indicated by the fifth field may be triggered to be transmitted or stopped to be transmitted.

[0059] In some implementations, the indication signaling is used for triggering on-demand SSB transmission related operations for a (set of) deactivated SCell (s) .

[0060] In some implementations, the indication signaling is used for triggering on-demand SSB transmission related operations and SCell activation for a (set of) deactivated SCell (s) .

[0061] In some implementations, the indication signaling is used for triggering on-demand SSB transmission related operations for a (set of) activated SCell (s) .

[0062] In some implementations, the indication signaling can be used both for triggering on-demand SSB transmission related operations for a (set of) deactivated SCell (s) and triggering on-demand SSB transmission related operations for a (set of) activated SCell (s) .

[0063] In some implementations, the indication signaling can be used for multiple stage of the SCell. UE can identify the stage of the SCell according to the indication of the indication signaling. For one example, the indication signaling comprises a first field and a second field. The i-th first sub field indicates a ‘activated’ status of the SCell (s) corresponding to index i, and the i-th second sub field indicates to trigger on-demand SSB transmission on the SCell (s) corresponding to index i. If the SCell (s) corresponding to index i is in activated state when receiving the MAC CE, the UE detects the SSB on the SCell (s) corresponding to index i. If the SCell (s) corresponding to index i is in deactivated state when receiving the MAC CE, the UE detects the SSB on the SCell (s)  corresponding to index i and processing the SCell activation process of the SCell (s) corresponding to index i.

[0064] In some implementations, in addition to a portion, an entire, or any combination of other implementation (s)  / embodiment (s) described in the present disclosure, the indication signaling is a downlink signaling transmitted by the base station to the UE; and / or the indication signaling comprises at least one of the following: a medium access control control element (MAC CE) or a downlink control information (DCI) .

[0090] In some implementations, the cell defined SSB is the SSB that accompanies remaining minimum system information (RMSI) i.e. the master information block (MIB) of the CD-SSB carries information of the scheduled system information block 1 (SIB1) . The NCD-SSB and the non-cell defining SSB not contain any associated RMSI with it i.e no SIB1 associated with that SSB burst. In some implementations, the periodic SSB refers to the SSBs transmitted periodic once configured or triggered. The SP SSB refers to the SSBs transmitted periodic once configured or triggered until it is triggered or reconfigured to stop transmission. The AP SSB refers to the SSB only transmitted when be triggered. For example, when the SSB is triggered to transmit, the SSB will be transmitted N times or within a duration.

[0091] In some implementations, the indication signaling is a MAC CE for a deactivated SCell or a set of deactivated SCells. In some implementations, the indication signaling is a DCI for an activated SCell or a set of activated SCells. In some implementations, the indication signaling is a uplink signal for an activated SCell or a set of activated SCells.

[0092] In some implementations, in addition to a portion, an entire, or any combination of other implementation (s)  / embodiment (s) described in the present disclosure, a cell, on which the  indication signaling is transmitted by the UE or the base station, is determined by at least one of the following: a pre-defined rule, the status of the target cell, the RRC state of the UE, the usage of the triggered on-demand SSB, the usage of the indication signaling, and / or one or more fields in the indication signaling.

[0093] In some implementations, the cell on which the indication signaling is transmitted or is received may be determined by a portion or all of the following: pre-defined specification, the status of the target cell, the RRC state of the UE, the usage of the triggered SSB, the usage of the indication signaling, and / or the fields in the indication on signaling.

[0095] In some implementations, in addition to a portion, an entire, or any combination of other implementation (s)  / embodiment (s) described in the present disclosure, the on-demand SSB comprises one or more transmission modes, wherein the one or more transmission modes comprise at least one of: a number of bursts of the on-demand SSB, one or more gaps between bursts of the on-demand SSBs, a cycle of the on-demand SSB, a duration for on-demand SSB transmission, a set of indexes of the transmitted on-demand SSBs, and / or an application delay of the indication signaling.

[0096] In some implementations, in addition to a portion, an entire, or any combination of other implementation (s)  / embodiment (s) described in the present disclosure, a transmission mode of the on-demand SSB is determined by at least one of the following factors: a cell status, a RRC states of the UE, a frequency range (FR) , a spectrum type, a usage of the on-demand SSB, an indication in the indication signaling, and / or a type of the on-demand SSB.

[0097] In some implementations, in addition to a portion, an entire, or any combination of other implementation (s)  / embodiment (s) described in the present disclosure, the on-demand SSB transmits a number of bursts, wherein: the number of bursts is determined by at least one of the  following: a pre-defined rule, one or more high layer parameters, one or more gaps, an indication in the indication signaling, and / or a frequency range of the target SCell.

[0098] In some implementations, in addition to a portion, an entire, or any combination of other implementation (s)  / embodiment (s) described in the present disclosure, the on-demand SSB transmits within a duration, wherein: the duration is determined by at least one of the following: an application delay of the indication signaling, a fixed system frame number (SFN) , a start of a half frame, one or more high layer parameters, one or more offsets, one or more timers, the status of the target SCell and / or a frequency range of the target SCell.

[0099] In some implementations, the on-demand SSB comprises one or more transmission modes. The transmission mode comprises a portion or all of the following: a number of the bursts of the on-demand SSB , a gap between the on-demand SSBs, a cycle of the on-demand SSB, a duration for the on-demand SSB transmission, an index of the transmitted SSBs, and / or an application delay of the indication signaling.

[0100] In some implementations, the transmission mode is determined by at least one of the following factors: cell status, RRC states of UE, frequency range (FR) , spectrum type , the usage of the SSB, SSB type, and / or the indication in the indication signaling. In some implementations, the status of the target cell comprises at least one of activated cell, deactivated cell, known cell, and / or unknown cell. In some implementations, the RRC state of the UE comprises idle state, inactivate state and connected state. In some implementations, the frequency range comprises at least one of FR1, FR2, FR2-1, FR2-2, and / or FR3. In some implementations, the spectrum type comprises frequency division duplex (FDD) , and / or time division duplex (TDD) .

[0101] In some embodiments, the usage of the triggered SSB comprises at least one of neighbour cell measurement, deactivated cell measurement, AGC, synchronization, layer 1 measurement, layer 3 measurement, and / or SCell activation. In some implementations, the type of the triggered SSB comprises at least one of cell defined SSB (CD-SSB) , not-cell defined SSB (NCD-SSB) , non-cell defining SSB, periodic SSB, semi-persistent (SP) SSB, and / or aperiodic (AP) SSB.

[0102] In some implementations, there are multiple on-demand SSB transmission modes and each transmission mode corresponding to a mode index.

[0103] In some implementations, the on-demand SSB transmitted N times. The N is determined by at least one of the following: pre-defined, high layer parameters, the indication in the indication signaling, the frequency range of the target SCell, and / or one or more gaps. For a non-limiting example, the number of the bursts of the on-demand SSB is configured by the high layer parameters. For another non-limiting example, the number of the bursts of the on-demand SSB are indicated by the indication signaling. A field in the indication signaling can be used to indicate the value of the bursts of the on-demand SSB on the target SCell. For yet another non-limiting example, the N is determined by one or more pre-defined values and the frequency range of the target SCell. When the target SCell is belong to FR1, the number of the bursts of the on-demand SSB is equal to N1. When the target SCell is belong to FR2, the number of the bursts of the on-demand SSB is equal to N2. For non-limiting examples, N1=4, N2=25, or N1=5, N2=27.

[0104] In some implementations, the number of the transmitted on-demand SSBs is related to the gap. For a non-limiting example, when the gap is absent, there is a single SSB burst. When the gap is configured, there are multiple bursts and the gap indicates the gap between the two SSB bursts in number of slots.

[0105] In some implementations, the on-demand SSB transmitted within a duration. In some implementations, the duration is determined by at least one of a start point, a length of the duration, a end point, and / or one or more timers. In some implementations, at least one of the start of the duration, the length of the duration or the end of the duration is determined by at least one of an application delay of the indication signaling, a fixed SFN, a start of a half frame, high layer parameters, one or more offsets, one or more timers, the status of the target SCell and / or the frequency range of the target SCell.

[0106] In some implementations, the start of the duration is determined by the application delay of the indication signaling and a start of a half frame. For example, the start of the duration is the first symbol of a half frame no early than the application delay of the indication signaling.

[0107] In some implementations, the length of the duration is configured by high layer parameters. For the target SCell belonging to FR1, the length of the duration is L1. For the target SCell belonging to FR2, the length of the duration is L2. For example, the L1 equals to 20ms, L2 equals to 160ms.

[0108] In some implementations, the duration is determined by a start and a length of the duration. In some implementations, the duration is determined by one or more timers. In some embodiments, in response to the indication signaling, UE and / or gNB start a first timer. The on-demand SSB will be transmitted within the duration that the first timer running. When the first timer expires, the transmission of the on-demand SSB is stopped. In some implementations, when the indication signaling is transmitted during the running of the first timer, the first timer is restarted. The on-demand SSB will be transmitted until the first timer expires. In some implementations, when the indication signaling is transmitted during the running of the first timer, a second timer is started. The on-demand SSB will be transmitted until both the first timer and the second timer expire.

[0109] In some implementations, the on-demand SSBs may be transmitted periodically. In some embodiments, the cycle of the on-demand SSB is determined by at least one of pre-defined, high layer parameters, indicated by the indication signaling. For a non-limiting example, the cycle of the on-demand SSB is 5ms. For another non-limiting example, the cycle of the on-demand SSB is configured by RRC parameter. For another non-limiting example, one or more candidate cycles are configured by high layer parameters, the indication signaling indicates the one used for on-demand SSB transmission.

[0110] In some implementations, the on-demand SSBs may be transmitted with one or more gap. In some implementations, the gap of the on-demand SSB are determined by at least one of pre-defined, high layer parameters, indicated by the indication signaling. In some implementations, one or more gaps are configured by high layer parameters, and the indication signaling indicates the one used for on-demand SSB transmission. In some implementations, the number of the transmitted on-demand SSBs is related to the gap. For a non-limiting example, when the gap is absent, there is a single SSB burst. When the gap is configured, there are multiple bursts and the gap indicates the gap between the two SSB bursts in number of slots.

[0111] In some implementations, the on-demand SSB transmission will not stop until an indication indicates stop to transmit on-demand SSB.

[0112] In some implementations, the on-demand SSB transmission mode is pre-defined. In some implementations, the on-demand SSB transmission mode is indicated by the indication  signaling. In some implementations, the on-demand SSB transmission mode is related to the status of the SCell. For a deactivated SCell, the on-demand SSB triggered by the indication signaling is transmitted with a first transmission mode. For a SCell to be activated, the on-demand SSB triggered by the indication signaling is transmitted with a second transmission mode. For an activated SCell, the on-demand SSB triggered by the indication signaling is transmitted with a third transmission mode.

[0113] In some implementations, after the on-demand SSB transmission triggered by the indication signaling, no SSB transmitted until a new indication signaling triggers on-demand SSB transmission. In some implementations, after the on-demand SSB transmission triggered by the indication signaling, the SSBs are transmitted with a new cycle on the target SCell.

[0114] In some implementations, in addition to a portion, an entire, or any combination of other implementation (s)  / embodiment (s) described in the present disclosure, an application delay of the indication signaling is determined by at least one of the following: a pre-determined value, one or more high layer parameters, a sub-carrier spacing (SCS) of the target SCell, a frequency range of the target SCell, one or more capabilities of the UE, a number of the target SCells, the type of the indication signaling and / or a SCS of the cell on which the indication signaling transmitted.

[0115] In some implementations, in addition to a portion, an entire, or any combination of other implementation (s)  / embodiment (s) described in the present disclosure, a starting position of the application delay comprises at least one of the following: a start of the indication signaling, an end of the indication signaling, a start of a feedback of the indication signaling, and / or an end of the feedback of the indication signaling.

[0116] In some implementations, in addition to a portion, an entire, or any combination of other implementation (s)  / embodiment (s) described in the present disclosure, the application delay comprises X units, wherein: the units comprise one of milliseconds (ms) , slots, or symbols, and / or X is associated with at least one of the following: a SCS of the target SCell, a SCS of the cell on which the indication signaling transmitted, a minimum SCS among the cell on which the indication signaling is transmitted and one or more target SCells.

[0117] In some implementations, in addition to a portion, an entire, or any combination of other implementation (s)  / embodiment (s) described in the present disclosure, the on-demand SSB  transmitted no earlier than a beginning of an earliest slot that is at least application delay symbols after the last symbol of the indication signaling. In some implementations, “no earlier than” may refer to “after or at same time as” . In some implementations, “no earlier than” may simply mean “after” .

[0118] In some implementations, the application delay of the indication signaling is determined by at least one of the pre-determined, high layer parameters, the type of the indication signaling, the SCS of the target cell, the frequency range of the target cell, UE capabilities, the number of the target cells, and / or the SCS of the cell receiving / sending the indication signaling.

[0119] In some implementations, the UE detects the on-demand SSB after the application of the indication signaling.

[0120] In some implementations, the UE detects the on-demand SSB from a start of SSB transmission occasion after the application delay of the indication signaling.

[0121] In some implementations, the application delay is start from at least one of the following: the start of the indication signaling, the end of the indication signaling, the start of the feedback of the indication signaling, the end of the feedback of the indication signaling, the beginning of a first slot at least after the start of the indication signaling, the beginning of a first slot at least after the end of the indication signaling, the beginning of a first slot at least after the start of the feedback of the indication signaling, and / or the beginning of a first slot at least after the end of the feedback of the indication signaling .

[0122] In some implementations, the application delay is a pre-determined value. For example, the application delay is 3 millisecond (ms) .

[0123] In some implementations, the application delay is X ms / slots / symbols, wherein the X is associated with at least one of the SCS of the target cell, the SCS of the cell receiving / sending the indication signaling, and / or the minimum SCS among the cell receiving / sending the indication signaling and the target cells. For a non-limiting example, the X is associated with the SCS of the target cell. For another non-limiting example, the X is associated with the SCS of the cell receiving / sending the indication signaling. For another non-limiting example, the X is associated with the smallest SCS between the target cell and the cell receiving / sending the indication  signaling. In some embodiments, the X is pre-determined. In some implementations, the X is configured by high layer parameters. For a non-limiting example, there are multiple candidate values in a list or a table, and each value in the list or the table corresponds to a SCS.

[0124] In some implementations, the application delay is determined by the minimum SCS among the cell receiving / sending the indication signaling and the target cells.

[0125] In some implementations, the SSB transmitted no earlier than the beginning of the first slot that is at least application delay symbols after the last symbol of the indication signaling. In some implementations, the start of the first slot where SSB transmitted on the target cell should not earlier than the application delay. Here, a “first” slot may refer to a “first” slot in time, i.e., an “earliest” slot. In some implementations, when the end of the application delay is in the middle of a slot in the target cell, the slot allowed to transmit SSB by the application delay starts from the next slot. For a non-limiting example, the application delay is determined by the SCS of the cell receiving / sending the indication signaling. When the SCS of the target cell is smaller than that of the cell receiving / sending the indication signaling, the first slot allowed to transmit SSB is the first slot no earlier than the end of the application delay.

[0126] In some implementations, the candidate SSB is transmitted from the end of the application delay. In some implementations, the candidate SSB is transmitted from the start of a half frame after the application delay. In some implementations, the first symbols of the first slot in a half-frame of the candidate SSB is determined according to the SCS of SSB. Here, a “first” slot / symbol may refer to a “first” slot / symbol in time, i.e., an “earliest” slot / symbol.

[0127] In some implementations, when a collision occurred between SSB and other signals / channels with respect to resources, the SSB may be transmitted on the resources. In some implementations, when a collision occurred between SSB and other signals / channels with respect to resources, the signal / channel with a high priority may be transmitted on the resources. In some implementations, the priority of the SSB is determined by at least one of pre-determined, high layer parameter, and / or the type of the SSB. In some implementations, the type of the SSB comprises at least one of periodic SSB, SP SSB, and / or AP SSB. In some implementations, the priority of the periodic SSB is high than that of SP SSB. In some implementations, the priority of the SP SSB is higher than that of AP SSB. In some implementations, the priority of the CD SSB is higher than  that of the NCD SSB.
