[0043] The term “terminal device” refers to any end device that may be capable of wireless communication. By way of example rather than limitation, a terminal device may also be referred to as a communication device, user equipment (UE) , a Subscriber Station (SS) , a Portable Subscriber Station, a Mobile Station (MS) , or an Access Terminal (AT) . The terminal device may include, but not limited to, a mobile phone, a cellular phone, a smart phone, voice over IP (VoIP) phones, wireless local loop phones, a tablet, a wearable terminal device, a personal digital assistant (PDA) , portable computers, desktop computer, image capture terminal devices such as digital cameras, gaming terminal devices, music storage and playback appliances, vehicle-mounted wireless terminal devices, wireless endpoints, mobile stations, laptop-embedded equipment (LEE) , laptop-mounted equipment (LME) , USB dongles, smart devices, wireless customer-premises equipment (CPE) , an Internet of Things (IoT) device, a watch or other wearable, a head-mounted display (HMD) , a vehicle, a drone, a medical device and applications (e.g., remote surgery) , an industrial device and applications (e.g., a robot and / or other wireless devices operating in an industrial and / or an automated processing chain contexts) , a consumer electronics device, a device operating on commercial and / or industrial wireless networks, and the like. The terminal device may also correspond to a Mobile Termination (MT) part of an IAB node (e.g., a relay node) . In the following description, the terms “terminal device” , “communication device” , “terminal” , “user equipment” and “UE” may be used interchangeably.

[0044] As used herein, the term “resource, ” “transmission resource, ” “resource block, ” “physical resource block” (PRB) , “uplink resource, ” or “downlink resource” may refer to any resource for performing a communication, for example, a communication between a terminal device and a network device, such as a resource in time domain, a resource in frequency domain, a resource in space domain, a resource in code domain, or any other combination of the time, frequency, space and / or code domain resource enabling a communication, and the like. In the following, unless explicitly stated, a resource in both frequency domain and time domain will be used as an example of a transmission resource for describing some example embodiments of the present disclosure. It is noted that example embodiments of the present disclosure are equally applicable to other resources in other domains.

[0045] FIG. 1 illustrates an example communication environment 100 in which example embodiments of the present disclosure can be implemented. As shown in FIG. 1, a terminal device 110 and one or more network devices 120-1, 120-2 are comprised in the communication environment 100. In the following, for the purpose of discussion, the network devices 120-1, 120-2 are collectively or individually referred to as network devices 120.

[0046] Some example embodiments may be described with a first apparatus operating as a terminal device and a second apparatus operating as a network device. However, in some example embodiments, operations described in connection with a terminal device may be implemented at a network device or other device, and operations described in connection with a network device may be implemented at a terminal device or other device.

[0047] In some example embodiments, the network device 120-1 may be a network device in a cell 130, for example, a gNB of the cell 130 for the terminal device 110. In some examples, the network device 120-2 may be a network device in another cell 140, for example, a gNB of the cell 140. The cell 140 may be a candidate cell for a cell selection or a target cell for a cell handover of the terminal device 110. In an example, if a cell switch criterion is satisfied, the network device 120 may perform a cell switch of the terminal device 110 from the cell 130 to the cell 140. In an example, if no cell switch criterion is satisfied or if a cell selection to the current cell 130 is satisfied, the terminal device 110 may camp on the current cell 130.

[0048] It is to be understood that the number and types of apparatuses are shown in FIG. 1  for the purpose of illustration without suggesting any limitation. For example, the communication environment 100 may include any suitable number of first apparatuses and second apparatuses.

[0049] In some example embodiments, a link from the network device 120 to the terminal device 110 is referred to as a downlink (DL) , and a link from the terminal device 110 to the network device 120 is referred to as an uplink (UL) . In DL, the network device 120 is a transmitting (TX) device (or a transmitter) and the terminal device 110 is a receiving (RX) device (or a receiver) . In UL, the terminal device 110 is a TX device (or a transmitter) and the network device 120 is a RX device (or a receiver) .

[0050] Communications in the communication environment 100 may be implemented according to any proper communication protocol (s) , comprising, but not limited to, cellular communication protocols of the first generation (1G) , the second generation (2G) , the third generation (3G) , the fourth generation (4G) , the fifth generation (5G) , the sixth generation (6G) , and the like, wireless local network communication protocols such as Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.11 and the like, and / or any other protocols currently known or to be developed in the future. Moreover, the communication may utilize any proper wireless communication technology, comprising but not limited to: Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) , Frequency Division Multiple Access (FDMA) , Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) , Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) , Time Division Duplex (TDD) , Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) , Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple (OFDM) , Discrete Fourier Transform spread OFDM (DFT-s-OFDM) and / or any other technologies currently known or to be developed in the future.

[0051] For duplexing evolution including the SBFD, two duplexing modes are supported in 5G NR, including Frequency Division Duplexing (FDD) for paired bands and Time Division Duplexing (TDD) for unpaired bands. FIG. 2A illustrates example Time Division Duplexing according to some example embodiments of the present disclosure. In TDD, as shown in FIG. 2A, the time domain resource is split between downlink and uplink. Allocation of a limited time duration for the uplink in TDD would result in reduced coverage, increased latency, and reduced capacity. FIG. 2B illustrates example Frequency Division Duplexing according to some example embodiments of the present disclosure. In FDD, as shown in FIG. 2B, uplink and downlink transmission are allowed at the same time over different frequency bands which is separated by a grand band 120. Frequency  bands are generally inflexible to change which may result in higher complexity and high cost.

[0052] Motivated by this, one of the objectives of the evolution of duplexing operation in NR that addresses the challenges above is to allow simultaneous downlink and uplink transmission on different physical resource blocks (PRBs)  / sub-bands within an unpaired wideband NR cell. FIG. 2C illustrates example sub-band full duplex according to some example embodiments of the present disclosure. In SBFD, as shown in FIG. 2C, downlink and uplink are operated simultaneously on the same time division duplex carrier on different frequency resources. This duplexing scheme may be also referred to as cross division duplexing (xDD) scheme or flexible division duplexing (FDU) .

[0053] In SBFD, there may be two slot types for both downlink and uplink transmissions. FIG. 3 illustrates a schematic diagram of sub-band full duplex and non-sub-band full duplex slots according to some example embodiments of the present disclosure. As shown in FIG. 3, during SBFD slots 310, the non-overlapping downlink sub-band (s) 312 and uplink sub-band (s) 314 may both exist. During non-SBFD slots 316 and 318, the entire band is used for either downlink or uplink (for example, legacy / full DL / UL slots) . In this example, full non-SBFD slots 316 are used for downlink transmission and full non-SBFD slots 318 are used for uplink transmission.

[0054] Several SBFD operation modes have been studied including whether time and frequency locations of sub-bands for the SBFD operation are known to the SBFD-aware UE or not. It is agreed that at least the operation mode with time and frequency locations of sub-bands for SBFD operation being known to the SBFD-aware UE is prioritized. This means that SBFD slots should be known by the UE (for example, SBFD-aware UE) in some way.

[0055] Regarding secondary synchronization signal reference signal received quality (SS-RSRQ) , the SS-RSRQ may be defined as the ratio of N×SS-RSRP / NR carrier received signal strength indicator (RSSI) , where N is the number of resource blocks in the NR carrier RSSI measurement bandwidth, SS-RSRP is secondary synchronization signal (SS) reference signal received power (RSRP) . The measurements in the numerator and the denominator shall be made over the same set of resource blocks.

[0056] An NR carrier RSSI comprises the linear average of the total received power (for example, in [W] ) observed only in certain OFDM symbols of measurement time  resource (s) , in the measurement bandwidth, over N number of resource blocks from all sources, including co-channel serving and non-serving cells, adjacent channel interference, thermal noise etc. For cell selection, the measurement time resources (s) for NR Carrier RSSI are not constrained. Otherwise, the measurement time resource (s) for NR Carrier RSSI are confined within SS / PBCH Block Measurement Time Configuration (SMTC) window duration, where SS refers to Synchronization Signal, and PBCH refers to Physical Broadcast Channel.

[0057] If indicated by higher-layers, and if the measurement gap is not used, the NR carrier RSSI is measured in slots within the SMTC window duration, which are indicated by the higher layer parameter measurementSlots, and in OFDM symbols as specified in Table 1 below. In addition, if the measurement gap is used, the NR carrier RSSI is measured in slots within the SMTC window duration, which are indicated by the higher layer parameter measurementSlots, and in OFDM symbols specified in Table 1 below that are overlapped with the measurement gap. For intra-frequency measurements, the NR carrier RSSI is measured with timing reference corresponding to the serving cell in the frequency layer While for inter-frequency measurements, NR Carrier RSSI is measured with timing reference corresponding to any cell in the target frequency layer. If not indicated by higher-layers, and if the measurement gap is not used, the NR carrier RSSI is measured from OFDM symbols within the SMTC window duration. Alternatively, if measurement gap is used, the NR carrier RSSI is measured from OFDM symbols corresponding to the overlapped time span between the SMTC window duration and the measurement gap.

[0058] Table 1: NR Carrier RSSI measurement symbols

[0059] If higher-layers indicate certain SS / PBCH blocks for performing SS-RSRQ measurements, then the SS-RSRP is measured only from the indicated set of SS / PBCH block (s) . Furthermore, SS-RSRQ measurements may be applicable for RRC_IDLE intra-frequency, RRC_IDLE inter-frequency, RRC_INACTIVE intra-frequency, RRC_INACTIVE inter-frequency, RRC_CONNECTED intra-frequency, and  RRC_CONNECTED inter-frequency.

[0060] Regarding channel state information reference signal received quality (CSI-RSRQ) , the CSI-RSRQ may be defined as the ratio of N×CSI-RSRP to CSI-RSSI, where N is the number of resource blocks in the channel state information received signal strength indicator (CSI-RSSI) measurement bandwidth. The measurements in the numerator and denominator shall be made over the same set of resource blocks.

[0061] The CSI-RSSI comprises the linear average of the total received power (for example, in W) observed solely in OFDM symbols of measurement time resource (s) , within the measurement bandwidth, over N number of resource blocks from all sources, including co-channel serving and non-serving cells, adjacent channel interference, thermal noise, etc. The measurement time resource (s) for CSI-RSSI corresponds to OFDM symbols containing configured CSI-RS occasions. For CSI-RSRQ determination CSI reference signals transmitted on antenna port 3000 may be used. For intra-frequency CSI-RSRQ measurements, if the measurement gap is not configured, a UE is not expected to measure the CSI-RS resource (s) outside of the active downlink bandwidth part. Furthermore, the CSI-RSSI may be applicable for RRC_CONNECTED intra-frequency, and RRC_CONNECTED inter-frequency.

[0062] Regarding the cell selection criterion (represented as S) , the S may be fulfilled if Srxlev > 0 AND Squal > 0, where Srxlev = Qrxlevmeas – (Qrxlevmin + Qrxlevminoffset ) –Pcompensation -Qoffsettemp, and Squal = Qqualmeas – (Qqualmin + Qqualminoffset) -Qoffsettemp. The representations of the parameters can be referred to the table 2 below.

[0063] Table 2: representations of the parameters

[0064] The signaled values Qrxlevminoffset and Qqualminoffset are only applied when a cell is evaluated for cell selection as a result of a periodic search for a higher priority PLMN while camped normally in a visited-PLMN (VPLMN) . During this periodic search for a higher-priority PLMN, the UE may check the S criteria of a cell using parameter values stored from a different cell of the higher-priority PLMN.

[0065] Regarding cell reselection measurements, in NR, when the UE is camped in a cell, it can evaluate whether to measure the neighbor cells or not, depending on whether the serving cell fulfills the quality level threshold and the RX level threshold. If the RX level is above SIntraSearchP and the quality level is above SIntraSearchQ, the UE may not perform intra-frequency measurements. Both parameters are configured in SIB2, if SIntraSearchQ is not configured, the UE applies the value 0.

[0066] Regarding inter-frequency measurements, if any inter-frequency layer has a higher reselection priority than the reselection priority of the current NR frequency, the UE shall perform inter-frequency measurements of higher priority. If the priority is the same or lower than that of the current NR frequency, the UE evaluates whether the serving cell fulfils conditions Srxlev > SIntraSearchP for RX level and Squal > SIntraSearchQ. for quality. If the serving cell fulfils these conditions, the UE may choose not to perform measurements of NR inter-frequency cells of equal or lower priority.

[0067] Mobility measurement may be performed based on SS-RSRP and / or SS-RSRQ and / or secondary synchronization signal signal to interference plus noise ratio (SS-SINR) . Mobility measurement may be performed based on channel state information reference signal received power (CSI-RSRP) and / or CSI-RSRQ and / or channel state information signal to interference plus noise ratio (CSI-SINR) . Events may be triggered based on measurement reports, and measurement reports may serve as the basis and reference for event processing. At least one events may be triggered including Event A1-A6, B1-B2, or l1. In Event A1, at least one of measurement parameters of the serving cell becomes better than a threshold. In Event A2, at least one of measurement parameters of the serving cell becomes worse than a threshold. In Event A3, the offset of the neighbor cell becomes better than that of the SpCell. In Event A4, at least one of measurement parameters of the neighbor cell becomes better than a threshold. In Event A5, at least one of measurement parameters of the SpCell becomes worse than a threshold and at least one of measurement parameters of the neighbor cell becomes better than a further threshold. In Event A6, the offset of the neighbor cell becomes better than that of the SCell. In Event B1, at least one of measurement parameters of the inter-RAT neighbor cell becomes better than a threshold. In Event B2, at least one of measurement parameters of the PCell becomes worse than a threshold and at least one of measurement parameters of the inter-RAT neighbor cell becomes better than a further threshold. In Event I1, the interference becomes higher than a threshold. It is to be understood that other events may be triggered  based on measurement reports, and events mentioned above are only some examples.

[0068] A problem arises when a RSRQ measurement is performed in SBFD. For example, in a mobility measurement scenario, using the RSRQ measurement is an effective way to measure signal quality and network load in downlink. Because SS-RSRQ may be determined as SS-RSRQ= N×SS-RSRP / NR carrier RSSI, the quality evaluation of RSRQ may be based on NR carrier RSSI. A network in SBFD is very sensitive to interference, and the UE is also subject to cross-link interference (CLI) , measuring network interference and quality based on RSRQ is beneficial. However, this method of RSRQ measurement for SBFD is only useful for the traditional TDD and FDD networks, because the whole network and the whole carrier bandwidth are in downlink mode when UE measures RSRQ. However, this measurement method is not precise for the SBFD systems because not all resource blocks in the bandwidth are in downlink mode when the UE performs measurements, for example, the UL SUB-BAND may be in an uplink state. Also, the network devices operating in the SBFD mode have better coverage in uplink than the ones operating in non-SBFD mode. As a result, the current cell measurement solution is problematic for the SBFD mode. Therefore, a new solution for mobility measurement and reporting in SBFD may be beneficial.

[0069] According to some example embodiments of the present disclosure, there is provided a solution for mobility measurement and reporting in SBFD. In the solution, a second apparatus (for example, a network device) transmits, to a first apparatus (for example, a terminal device) , configuration information about one or more downlink sub-bands and / or one or more uplink sub-bands for an SBFD mode in at least one cell. The first apparatus obtains one or more measurement results of one or more SBFD-specific measurement metrics for the serving cell within the one or more downlink frequency sub-bands and / or uplink frequency sub-bands. Then, the first apparatus determines whether one or more cell switch criteria related to the SBFD mode are satisfied based on the measurement result (s) of the SBFD-specific measurement metric (s) . If a cell switch criterion related to the SBFD mode is satisfied, the first apparatus can perform a cell switch from the current cell to a different cell in the SBFD mode. In this way, the cell measurement and reporting in the SBFD mode are more reliable for cell switch, e.g., cell handover and cell reselection in the SBFD mode.

[0070] Example embodiments of the present disclosure will be described in detail below with reference to the accompanying drawings.

[0071] FIG. 4 illustrates a signaling flow 400 for cell measurements in the SBFD mode according to some example embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purposes of discussion, the signaling flow 400 will be discussed with reference to FIG. 1. The signaling flow 400 may involve a first apparatus 402 and a second apparatus 404. In some example embodiments, the first apparatus 402 may be a terminal device 110 (for example, an SBFD-aware UE or an SBFD capable UE) or comprised in a terminal device (for example, an SBFD-aware UE or an SBFD capable UE) . The second apparatus 404 may be a network device or comprised in a network device (for example, a gNB) .

[0072] In some example embodiments, the second apparatus 404 may be a network device 120-1 in a current cell 130 where the terminal device 110 is located. In some cases, the current cell 130 may be considered as a serving cell of the terminal device 110 if the terminal device 110 is in a connected state, e.g., the RRC_CONNECTED state. In some cases, the terminal device 110 may be in an idle or inactive state, e.g., the RRC_IDLE state or RRC_INACTIVE state, and thus it may camp on the current cell 130. In some example embodiments, the second apparatus 404 may be a network device 120-2 in the cell 140 that is different from the current cell 130 of the terminal device 110. The cell 140 may be a candidate cell for a cell switch, a target cell for the cell handover, or the like.

[0073] It is to be understood that the signaling flow 400 may involve more apparatuses or less apparatuses, and the number of apparatuses illustrated in FIG. 4 is only for the purpose of illustration without suggesting any limitations. For example, a plurality of apparatuses in network devices (e.g., the network devices 120-1, 120-2, and so on) may be involved in a cell handover or a cell reselection procedure of the first apparatus 402. Those apparatus in the network devices may operate in a similar way as discussed with reference to the second apparatus 404 in the following.

[0074] As shown in FIG. 4, the second apparatus 404 transmits (410) , to the first apparatus 402, configuration information for an SBFD mode in at least one cell. The configuration information for the SBFD mode at least indicates at least one downlink sub-band and at least one uplink sub-band for an SBFD mode in the at least one cell.

[0075] At the side of the first apparatus 402, it may receive configuration information for the SBFD mode in at least one cell. The first apparatus 402 receives, from the second apparatus 404, configuration information for the SBFD mode in the at least one cell, where the configuration information for the SBFD mode at least indicates the at least one  downlink frequency sub-band and the at least one uplink frequency sub-band for the SBFD mode in the at least one cell. The at least one cell comprises at least one of a current cell of the first apparatus 402 (for example, the current cell 130 for the terminal device 110) or a different cell (for example, the cell 140) to be switched to from the current cell. In some example embodiments, the at least one cell may include one or more additional candidate cells for a cell switch of the first apparatus 402. For instance, the configuration information may comprise or indicate configuration for the current cell (e.g. serving cell or cell in which the first apparatus 402 is camping) and / or configuration for the different cell (i.e., the cell to which cell switch is at least considered to be possible) .

[0076] In some example embodiments, the second apparatus 404 may provide the current cell or a current cell of the first apparatus 402 (for example, a network device in the current cell of the first apparatus 402) , or may be a network device in a target cell of the first apparatus 402 for the cell handover. Therefore, if the second apparatus 404 is a network device in the current cell of the first apparatus 402, the transmitted configuration information is about at least one downlink sub-band and at least one uplink sub-band for an SBFD mode in the current cell. In addition, the configuration information related to a cell to be switched from the current cell of the first apparatus 402 is about at least one downlink sub-band and at least one uplink sub-band for an SBFD mode in that cell.

[0077] In some example embodiments, the configuration information for the SBFD mode in a cell may indicate a frequency band. Alternatively, or in addition, the configuration information may indicate a number of slots / symbols where the frequency band is split into multiple sub-bands. Among the multiple sub-bands, at least one sub-band is indicated to be used for downlink transmissions, i.e., at least one downlink sub-band, and at least one sub-band is indicated to be used for uplink transmissions, i.e., at least one uplink sub-band. The downlink sub-band (s) and uplink sub-bands may be indicated, for example, by indicating the SBFD slots / symbols, or locations of the number of slots / symbols in a radio frame. Alternatively, or in addition, the configuration information may include a number of slots / symbols where the entire frequency band is used for downlink transmissions, uplink transmissions or flexible transmissions, for example, non-SBFD slots / symbols, or locations of the number of slots / symbols in a radio frame.

[0078] The second apparatus 404 obtains (420) at least one measurement result of at least one SBFD-specific measurement metric for a cell within at least one of the following: the at least one downlink frequency sub-band, and the at least one uplink frequency sub-band.  In an example, the at least one measurement result of the at least one SBFD-specific measurement metric may be related to the cell provided by the second apparatus 404. Furthermore, the first apparatus 402 obtains (422) at least one measurement result of at least one SBFD-specific measurement metric for the at least one cell within the at least one of the following: the at least one downlink frequency sub-band, and the at least one uplink frequency sub-band.

[0079] In some example embodiments, the at least one SBFD-specific measurement metric (for example, an SBFD RSRQ measurement metric) may include an SBFD downlink signal quality (also represented as “DL-SUB-BAND RSRQ” ) in a downlink sub-band bandwidth of the at least one downlink frequency sub-band for the SBFD mode. The downlink sub-band bandwidth may also be referred to as the NR DL SUB-BAND RSSI measurement bandwidth.

[0080] In some example embodiments, if the SBFD-specific measurement metric is the SBFD downlink signal quality, the measurement result of the SBFD downlink signal quality (DL-SUB-BAND RSRQ) is determined based on a reference signal received power (RSRP for example, SS-RSRP or CSI-RSRP) , and a received signal strength indicator (RSSI) and a number of resource blocks within the downlink sub-band bandwidth. The RSSI within the downlink sub-band bandwidth is also represented as NR DL SUB-BAND RSSI. For example, the DL-SUB-BAND RSRQ may be defined as a ratio of N× (SS or CSI-RS) RSRP / NR DL SUB-BAND RSSI, where N is the number of resource blocks in the NR DL SUB-BAND RSSI measurement bandwidth. The NR DL SUB-BAND RSSI may comprise a linear average of the total received power (for example, in W) observed only in certain OFDM symbols of measurement time resource (s) , in the measurement DL SUB-BAND bandwidth, over the number of resource blocks (N) from all sources, including co-channel serving and non-serving cells, adjacent channel interference, thermal noise, or the like.

[0081] The SBFD downlink signal quality may be measured by the first apparatus 402 per cell. In some example embodiments, the first apparatus 402 may transmit a measurement report to the second apparatus 404. The measurement report may include the measurement result of the SBFD downlink signal quality per cell. Therefore, the second apparatus 404 can obtain the measurement result of the metric of SBFD downlink signal quality through receiving the measurement report from the first apparatus 402.

[0082] Alternatively, or in addition, the at least one SBFD-specific measurement metric may include a first SBFD uplink signal quality (also represented as UL-SUB-BAND RSRQ_UE) in an uplink sub-band bandwidth of the at least one uplink frequency sub-band for the SBFD mode. The uplink sub-band bandwidth may also be referred to as NR UL SUB-BAND RSSI measurement bandwidth.

[0083] In some example embodiments, the measurement result of the first SBFD uplink signal quality (UL-SUB-BAND RSRQ_UE) is determined based on RSRP (for example, SS-RSRP or CSI-RSRP) , and a first RSSI and a number of resource blocks within the uplink sub-band bandwidth. The first RSSI within the uplink sub-band bandwidth is also represented as NR UL SUB-BAND RSSI. The first RSSI within the uplink sub-band bandwidth may be measured by the first apparatus 402. In an example, the UL-SUB-BAND RSRQ_UE may be defined as the ratio of N× (SS or CSI-RS) RSRP / NR UL SUB-BAND RSSI, where N is the number of resource blocks in the NR UL SUB-BAND RSSI measurement bandwidth. The NR UL SUB-BAND RSSI may comprise the linear average of the total received power (for example, in W) observed only in certain OFDM symbols of measurement time resource (s) , in the measurement UL SUB-BAND bandwidth, over the number of resource blocks (N) from all sources, including co-channel serving and non-serving cells, adjacent channel interference, thermal noise, UE to UE CLI, or the like.

[0084] Alternatively, or in addition, the at least one SBFD-specific measurement metric may include a second SBFD uplink signal quality (also represented as UL-SUB-BAND RSRQ_gNB) in an uplink sub-band bandwidth of the at least one uplink frequency sub-band for the SBFD mode.

[0085] The measurement result of the second SBFD uplink signal quality (UL-SUB-BAND RSRQ_gNB) is determined based on an RSRP (for example, SS-RSRP or CSI-RS RSRP) , and a second RSSI and a number of resource blocks within the uplink sub-band bandwidth. The second RSSI within the uplink sub-band bandwidth is also represented as NR UL SUB-BAND RSSI. The second RSSI within the uplink sub-band bandwidth may be measured by the second apparatus 404. For example, the UL-SUB-BAND RSRQ_gNB maybe defined as the ratio of N× (SS or CSI-RS) RSRP / NR UL SUB-BAND RSSI, where SS-RSRP or CSI-RS RSRP may be reported by the first apparatus 402, and N is the number of resource blocks in the NR UL SUB-BAND RSSI measurement bandwidth. The NR UL SUB-BAND RSSI may be measured by the second apparatus 404. The RSRP may be reported from the first apparatus 402.

[0086] Alternatively, or in addition, the at least one SBFD-specific measurement metric may include a first signal quality difference (also represented as Delta DL-UL SUB-BAND RSRQ_UE) between the SBFD downlink signal quality (UL-SUB-BAND RSRQ_UE) and the first SBFD uplink signal quality (UL-SUB-BAND RSRQ_gNB) . That is, the measurement result of the Delta DL-UL SUB-BAND RSRQ_UE = DL-SUB-BAND RSRQ -UL-SUB-BAND RSRQ_UE.

[0087] Alternatively, or in addition, the at least one SBFD-specific measurement metric may include a second signal quality difference (also referred to as Delta DL-UL SUB-BAND RSRQ_gNB) between the SBFD downlink signal quality (DL-SUB-BAND RSRQ) and the second SBFD uplink signal quality (UL-SUB-BAND RSRQ_gNB) . That is, the measurement result of the Delta DL-UL SUB-BAND RSRQ_gNB = DL-SUB-BAND RSRQ -UL-SUB-BAND RSRQ_gNB.

[0088] Among the above example SBFD-specific measurement metrics, the following ones may be measured by the first apparatus 402: the SBFD downlink signal quality (DL-SUBAND RSRQ) , the first SBFD uplink signal quality (UL-SUBAND RSRQ_UE) , and / or the first signal quality difference (Delta DL-UL SUBBAND RSRQ_UE) between the SBFD downlink signal quality and the first SBFD uplink signal quality. The second SBFD uplink signal quality (UL-SUB-BAND RSRQ_gNB) and / or the second signal quality difference (Delta DL-UL SUB-BAND RSRQ_gNB) may be calculated by the second apparatus 404.

[0089] In some example embodiments, the first apparatus 402 may transmit a measurement report to the second apparatus 404, for example, if the first apparatus 402 is in a connected state. The measurement report may include corresponding measurement results of one or more of the SBFD downlink signal quality (DL-SUBAND RSRQ) , the first SBFD uplink signal quality (UL-SUBAND RSRQ_UE) , and / or the first signal quality difference (Delta DL-UL SUBBAND RSRQ_UE) between the SBFD downlink signal quality and the first SBFD uplink signal quality. Alternatively, or in addition, the measurement report may include a RSRP (e.g., SS-RSRP and / or CSI-RSRP) measured by the first apparatus 402. Then, the second apparatus 404 may determine the measurement result of the second SBFD uplink signal quality based on the received RSRP.

[0090] In some example embodiments, the configuration information for the SBFD mode in a cell transmitted to the first apparatus 402 may further indicate at least one SBFD- specific measurement metric to be measured for a cell selection or cell reselection in the SBFD mode. Alternatively, or in addition, the configuration information may further indicate at least one SBFD-specific measurement metric to be measured for a cell handover in the SBFD mode. In this case, the first apparatus 402 may be aware of the SBFD-specific measurement metrics to be used for the cell handover, and / or the cell reselection.

[0091] In some example embodiments, the configurations for the SBFD-specific measurement metric (s) (for example, the DL-SUBBAND RSRQ, the UL-SUBBAND RSRQ_UE, the Delta DL-UL SUB-BAND RSRQ_UE) in the cell reselection may be transmitted through a system information block (SIB) by the second apparatus 404. Alternatively, or in addition, the SBFD-specific measurement metric (for example, the DL-SUBBAND RSRQ, the UL-SUBBAND RSRQ_UE, the Delta DL-UL SUB-BAND RSRQ_UE) to be measured may be preconfigured, for example, may be pre-defined in one or more specifications. In some example embodiments, the configurations for the SBFD-specific measurement metric (s) (for example, the DL-SUBBAND RSRQ, the UL-SUBBAND RSRQ_UE, the Delta DL-UL SUB-BAND RSRQ_UE) in the cell handover may be transmitted in RRC signaling to the first apparatus 402.

[0092] An example configuration information for a SBFD mode transmitted via RRC signaling may comprise a configuration measConfig, which may include one or more cell handover measurement configurations that are based on the above-mentioned SBFD-specific measurement metric (s) . The example configuration measConfig is shown as below.

[0093] In the above, the parameter “SBFDrsrqOffsetSSB: dB0” indicates an offset of one of the three SBFD-specific measurement metrics (the DL-SUBBAND RSRQ, the UL-SUBBAND RSRQ_UE, the Delta DL-UL SUB-BAND RSRQ_UE) with respect to SSB; the parameter “SBFDrsrqOffsetCSI-RS: dB0” indicates an offset of one of the three SBFD-specific measurement metrics (the DL-SUBBAND RSRQ, the UL-SUBBAND RSRQ_UE, the Delta DL-UL SUB-BAND RSRQ_UE) with respect to CSI-RS. The parameter “SBFDrsrq: 3” indicates one of the three SBFD-specific measurement metrics (the DL-SUBBAND RSRQ, the UL-SUBBAND RSRQ_UE, the Delta DL-UL SUB-BAND RSRQ_UE) in a serving cell becomes better than a threshold of 3 dB, which is defined as a handover report trigger event criterion related to the SBFD mode for the event A3. The parameter “SBFDrsrq: true” indicates that the handover report trigger event criterion “SBFDrsrq: 3” is enabled.

[0094] It would be appreciated that the SBFD-specific measurement metrics to be measured and utilized in the cell handover, and / or the cell reselection may be configured to the first  apparatus 402 in any other suitable ways.

[0095] Furthermore, the first apparatus 402 determines (432) , based at least in part on the at least one measurement result of the at least one SBFD-specific measurement metric, whether at least one cell switch criterion related to the SBFD mode is satisfied. In some example embodiments, the second apparatus 404 also determines (430) , based at least in part on the at least one measurement result of the at least one SBFD-specific measurement metric, whether at least one cell switch criterion related to the SBFD mode is satisfied for the first apparatus 402.

[0096] In some example embodiments, if the at least one cell switch criterion comprises a cell reselection criterion related to the SBFD mode that is defined based at least in part on the at least one SBFD-specific measurement metric and when the first apparatus 402 is in an idle state or an inactive state, in accordance with a determination that a measurement result of a predetermined SBFD-specific measurement metric (for example, the DL-SUBBAND RSRQ, the UL-SUBBAND RSRQ_UE, the Delta DL-UL SUB-BAND RSRQ_UE, or the Delta DL-UL SUB-BAND RSRQ_gNB) amongst at least one SBFD-specific measurement metric is below a threshold, the first apparatus 402 may trigger a cell reselection procedure. In an example, the first apparatus 402 may trigger the cell reselection procedure earlier than with the legacy thresholds using at least one of the SBFD-related parameters in the configuration information. For example, the first apparatus 402 may trigger the cell reselection by determining that the value of UL-SUBBAND RSRQ_UE is below one threshold.

[0097] In accordance with a determination that the at least one cell switch criterion related to the SBFD mode is satisfied, the first apparatus 402 performs (442) a cell switch from a current cell to a different cell in the SBFD mode. In some example embodiments, the second apparatus 404 performs (440) a cell switch (e.g., a cell handover) of the first apparatus 402 to the cell or from the cell to a different cell based on a determination of whether the at least one cell switch criterion related to the SBFD mode is satisfied.

[0098] In example embodiments of the present disclosure, if the first apparatus 402 is a SBFD-aware device and can operate in the current cell with the SBFD mode, or attempt to operate in a different cell with the SBFD mode, then the SBFD-specific measurement metrics (e.g., DL-SUBAND RSRQ, UL-SUBAND RSRQ_UE, Delta DL-UL SUBBAND RSRQ_UE, UL-SUBAND RSRQ_gNB, and / or Delta DL-UL SUBBAND RSRQ_gNB)  can be measured. Correspondingly, one or more cell switch criterion (for cell handover or cell reselection) are defined for the SBFD mode based on one or more of the SBFD-specific measurement metrics. A cell switch criterion based on a SBFD-specific measurement metric may also be referred to as a SBFD cell switch criterion.

[0099] In some cases, if the first apparatus 402 operates in the SBFD mode in the current cell (e.g., the cell 130 of the terminal device 110 in FIG. 1) , then the first apparatus 402 (and the second apparatus 404 in the current cell) may measure the SBFD-specific measurement metrics based on the configuration information for the SBFD mode in the current cell. Accordingly, the SBFD cell switch criteria may be applied. In some cases, if the first apparatus 402 operates in a non-SBFD mode in the current cell (e.g., in a TDD mode or a FDD mode) , then the first apparatus 402 (and the second apparatus 404 in the current cell) may measure the legacy measurement metrics and apply legacy cell switch criterion based on the measurement results of the legacy measurement metrics.

[0100] Alternatively, or in addition, if a different cell other than the current cell of the first apparatus 402, e.g., a neighbor cell, a candidate cell for the cell switch, or a target cell for the cell handover, supports the SBFD mode for the first apparatus 402, then the first apparatus 402 may also measure the SBFD-specific measurement metrics based on the configuration information for the SBFD mode in the different cell. Accordingly, the SBFD cell switch criteria related to the different cell may be applied. In some cases, if the different cell does not support a SBFD mode for the first apparatus 402, then the first apparatus 402 (and the network device in the different cell) may measure the legacy measurement metrics and apply legacy cell switch criterion based on the measurement results of the legacy measurement metrics.

[0101] As mentioned above, a cell switch may include a cell reselection for the first apparatus 402 in the idle state or the inactive state. The first apparatus 402 may perform cell selection or cell reselection based on an SBFD cell selection criterion S and an SBFD cell Reselection criterion R. In some example embodiments, in accordance with a determination that the cell selection criterion related to the SBFD mode is satisfied, the first apparatus 402 maintains operation in the serving cell with the SBFD mode. For example, if the cell selection RX level value (also referred to as Srxlev) is higher than 0, and the cell selection quality value of the serving cell associated with the SBFD mode (also referred to as Squal_SBFD) is higher than 0, the SBFD aware UE retains operation within the serving cell with the SBFD mode.

[0102] In accordance with a determination that the cell selection criterion related to the SBFD mode is dissatisfied (for example, Srxlev>0 and Squal_SBFD <=0) and a cell selection criterion related to a non-SBFD mode is satisfied (for example, the legacy criterion is satisfied, Squal >0) , the first apparatus 402 maintains operation in the serving cell with the non-SBFD mode. For example, if the CLI interference in the current location of the UE is large and is not suitable for SBFD mode, the UE may actively enter the legacy mode. Then, the UE may use legacy cell selection rules with the legacy mode.

[0103] For the SBFD cell selection, the Srxlev and Squal_SBFD may be defined as below: Srxlev = Qrxlevmeas – (Qrxlevmin + Qrxlevminoffset ) –Pcompensation –Qoffsettemp Squal_SBFD = QqualmeasSBFD – (Qqualmin + Qqualminoffset) –Qoffsettemp

[0104] where Qrxlevmeas represents a measured cell RX level value, Qrxlevmin represents Minimum required RX level in the cell, Qrxlevminoffset represents an offset to the signaled Qrxlevmin, Pcompensation represents a compensation value, Qoffsettemp represents a temporary offset, QqualmeasSBFD represents a measured cell quality value (SBFD RSRQ) , which may be one of the SBFD-specific measurement metrics configured in the configuration information, for example, DL-SUBBAND RSRQ, UL-SUBBAND RSRQ_UE, Delta DL-UL SUB-BAND RSRQ_UE. Qqualmin represents a minimum required quality level in the cell, Qqualminoffset represents an offset to the signaled Qqualmin.

[0105] For the SBFD cell reselection, a SBFD cell reselection criterion associated with the SBFD mode may include a SBFD cell reselection criterion Rs for the current cell and Rn for neighbouring cells (different cells from the current cell) . The SBFD cell reselection criterion Rs for the current cell may be defined based on one or more SBFD-specific measurement metric as measured in the current cell. The SBFD cell reselection criterion Rn for a neighbouring cell may be defined based on one or more SBFD-specific measurement metric as measured in the neighbouring cell. In some example embodiments, the SBFD cell reselection criterion Rs for serving cell and SBFD cell reselection criterion Rn for neighboring cells may be defined as below: Rs = QmeasSBFD, s+Qhyst -Qoffsettemp Rn = QmeasSBFD, n -Qoffset -Qoffsettemp

[0106] where QmeasSBFD, srepresents SBFD RSRQ measurement quantity used in the cell reselection for criterion Rs, which may be one of the SBFD-specific measurement metrics  as configured in the configuration information, for example, DL-SUBBAND RSRQ, UL-SUBBAND RSRQ_UE, Delta DL-UL SUB-BAND RSRQ_UE. Qhyst represents. Qoffsettemp represents a temporary offset, for intra-frequency, if Qoffsets, n is valid, Qoffsettemp equals to Qoffsets, n, otherwise Qoffsettemp equals to zero; for inter-frequency, if Qoffsets, n is valid, Qoffsets, n equals to Qoffsets, n plus Qoffsetfrequency, otherwise Qoffsets, n equals to Qoffsetfrequency. QmeasSBFD, n represents SBFD RSRQ measurement quantity used in the cell reselection for criterion Rn, Qoffset represents an offset value.

[0107] The priority of the SBFD cell reselection criterion Rs for serving cell and SBFD cell reselection criterion Rn for neighboring cells may be determined according to the value of the calculated result of the Rs and Rn parameters. The larger the Rs or Rn parameter, the higher the priority.

[0108] In some example embodiments, in accordance with a determination that the cell reselection criterion related to the SBFD mode is satisfied, the first apparatus 402 performs a cell reselection from a current cell (for example, the serving cell) to a different cell in the SBFD mode. For instance, if the SBFD cell reselection criterion R (for example, Rs, Rn) is satisfied, the SBFD aware UE may reselect to the cell with the SBFD mode. In accordance with a determination that the cell reselection related to the SBFD mode is dissatisfied and a cell reselection criterion related to the non-SBFD mode is satisfied, the first apparatus 402 performs a cell reselection from the current cell (for example, the serving cell) to the different cell (for example, the target cell) in the non-SBFD mode. For example, if the SBFD cell reselection criterion R is not satisfied and the legacy cell reselection criterion R is satisfied, the SBFD aware UE reselects to the cell with a legacy TDD mode.

[0109] In some example embodiments, when the first apparatus 402 is in an idle state or an inactive state, in accordance with a determination that the measurement result of the predetermined SBFD-specific measurement metric amongst at least one SBFD-specific measurement metric for the current cell is equal to or above a threshold, the first apparatus camps on the current cell in the SBFD mode. In accordance with a determination that the measurement result of the predetermined SBFD-specific measurement metric amongst at least one SBFD-specific measurement metric for the current cell is below the threshold, the first apparatus 402 may decide that it cannot camp on the current cell and will trigger a cell selection procedure to determine whether another cell can be camped on.

[0110] In accordance with a determination that a cell selection criterion related to the SBFD mode is satisfied for a further cell that is different from the current cell, the first apparatus camps on the different cell in the SBFD mode. In accordance with a determination that the cell selection criterion related to the SBFD mode is dissatisfied and a cell selection criterion related to a non-SBFD mode is satisfied for that different cell, the first apparatus 402 camps on the different cell in the non-SBFD mode. The cell selection criterion related to the SBFD mode is defined based at least in part on the at least one SBFD-specific measurement metric. For example, for cell selection, the first apparatus 402 gets the information about the system synchronization block (SSB) frequency, the SMTC, and the configuration of uplink and / or downlink sub-bands and guard bands of neighbor cells (for example, may be included in an SIB2) . Alternatively, or in addition, the uplink / downlink / guard band configuration may be added in the configuration of the SMTC and may be used by the first apparatus 402 in the IDLE or CONNECTED mode.

[0111] An example procedure 500 of cell selection or cell reselection of the first apparatus 402 is shown in FIG. 5. To perform the cell selection or cell reselection, the first apparatus 402 may be in the idle state or the inactive state. The first apparatus 402 may be an SBFD aware UE or an SBFD capable UE. It is assumed that the first apparatus 402 is an SBFD aware UE in the procedure 500. At 510, the SBFD aware UE starts the SBFD mode in a current cell. At 512, the SBFD aware UE receives an SBFD RSRQ selection configuration and / or an SBFD RSRQ reselection configuration (e.g., in an SIB) . The SBFD RSRQ selection configuration and / or an SBFD RSRQ reselection configuration may be included in the configuration information for the SBFD mode, and indicate one or more SBFD-specific measurement metrics to be measured by the SBFD aware UE.

[0112] At 514, the SBFD aware UE determines that the measurement result of a predetermined SBFD-specific measurement metric in the current cell is below a threshold (for example, a new threshold different from the legacy threshold) . The predetermined SBFD-specific measurement metric is configured as a parameter to trigger the cell selection or cell reselection. If the measurement result of a predetermined SBFD-specific measurement metric in the current cell is below a threshold, it means that the signal quality in the current cell becomes worse. In an example, the first apparatus 402 may trigger the cell reselection procedure earlier than with the legacy thresholds using at least one of the parameters in the configuration information. For example, an SBFD aware UE may trigger the cell reselection by determining that the value of UL-SUBBAND RSRQ_UE is below  one threshold.

[0113] Then at 516, the SBFD aware UE performs the cell selection or cell reselection based on the measurement result (s) of the configured SBFD-specific measurement metric (s) .

[0114] At 518, the SBFD aware UE determines that a cell selection criterion associated with the SBFD mode (also referred to as an SBFD cell selection criterion) is satisfied or if all cell reselection criteria associated with the SBFD mode (also referred to as SBFD cell reselection criteria) are dissatisfied. Then at block 522, the SBFD aware UE camps on the current cell in the SBFD mode. At 520, the SBFD aware UE determines that the SBFD cell selection criterion is dissatisfied but the legacy cell selection criterion (e.g., those defined based on non-SBFD-specific measurement metrics) . Then at block 522, the SBFD aware UE camps on the current cell in a legacy, non-SBFD mode, e.g., in the TDD mode.

[0115] For example, if Srxlev > 0 and Squal_SBFD >0, the SBFD aware UE camps on this cell with the SBFD mode. The SBFD cell reselection criteria “Squal_SBFD >0” is defined based on one or more above-mentioned SBFD-specific measurement metrics, as indicated above.

[0116] If Srxlev > 0 and Squal_SBFD <=0 and Squal >0, the SBFD aware UE camps on this cell with a legacy, non-SBFD mode. The SBFD cell reselection criteria “Squal_SBFD >0” is dissatisfied because Squal_SBFD <=0. However, the legacy cell selection criterion “Squal >0” is satisfied, so the SBFD aware UE can maintain in the legacy mode.

[0117] At 524, the SBFD aware UE determines that a cell reselection criterion associated with the SBFD mode is satisfied. Then at block 528, the SBFD aware UE performs a cell reselection from the current cell to a different cell in the SBFD mode. At 526, the SBFD aware UE determines that a cell reselection criterion associated with the SBFD mode is dissatisfied, but a legacy cell reselection criterion (for example, a cell reselection criterion associated with the non-SBFD mode) . Then at block 528, the SBFD aware UE performs the cell reselection from the serving cell to a different cell in the legacy, non-SBFD mode. In some example embodiments, the cell reselection criterion associated with the SBFD mode may include a SBFD cell reselection criterion Rs for the current cell and Rn for neighbouring cells (different cells from the current cell) , as mentioned above.

[0118] In some example embodiments, although not illustrated in FIG. 5, if the SBFD aware UE determines that the measurement result of the predetermined SBFD-specific measurement metric in the current cell is equal to or above the corresponding threshold, the SBFD aware UE camps on the current cell in the SBFD mode.

[0119] As mentioned above, a cell switch may include a cell handover for the first apparatus 402 in the connected state. In the following, a process of a cell handover from the serving cell to a different cell will be described.

[0120] In some example embodiments, the at least one cell switch criterion comprises at least one handover report trigger event criterion related to the SBFD mode that is defined based at least in part on the at least one SBFD-specific measurement metric. When the first apparatus 402 is in a connected state, the first apparatus 402 determines, based on the at least one measurement result of the at least one SBFD-specific measurement metric, whether any handover report trigger event criterion related to the SBFD mode (also referred to as SBFD handover report trigger event criterion) is satisfied.

[0121] In accordance with a determination that the handover report trigger event criterion related to the SBFD mode is satisfied, the first apparatus 402 transmits, to the second apparatus 404, a measurement report of an event corresponding to the handover report trigger event criterion related to the SBFD mode, for example, to request a cell handover from the serving cell to a target cell with the SBFD mode. In accordance with a determination that no handover report trigger event criterion related to the SBFD mode is satisfied, and in accordance with a determination that a handover report trigger event criterion related to a non-SBFD mode is satisfied, the first apparatus 402 transmits, to the second apparatus 404, a measurement report of an event corresponding to the handover report trigger event criterion related to the non-SBFD mode, for example, to request a cell handover from the serving cell to a target cell with the non-BFD mode. In accordance with a determination that no handover report trigger event criterion related to a non-SBFD mode is satisfied, the first apparatus 402 camps on the current cell (for example, the serving cell) .

[0122] In an example, an SBFD aware UE may perform the cell handover based on satisfaction of one or more SBFD cell handover criteria (e.g. A3 event, A5 event, A2 event, etc. ) . Each SBFD handover report trigger event criterion may be defined based on one or more SBFD-specific measurement metrics. Depending on the specific definitions of the  events for cell handover, the SBFD handover report trigger event criteria for some events may be defined based on the one or more SBFD-specific measurement metrics in the serving cell, and the SBFD handover report trigger event criteria for some events may be defined based on the one or more SBFD-specific measurement metrics in the neighbouring cells (including the candidate cells and / or the target cell for the cell handover) .

[0123] If a SBFD cell handover report trigger event criterion is satisfied, the SBFD aware UE reports the corresponding event. The serving cell may notify the target cell to prepare cell handover with the SBFD mode by Xn interface. If an SBFD cell handover report trigger event is not satisfied, and a legacy cell handover event is satisfied, the SBFD aware UE reports the legacy event. The service cell notifies the target cell to prepare handover with the legacy mode by Xn interface. In some example embodiments, at the network side, the servicing cell and the target cell (e.g., the second apparatus 404 in the serving cell or the target cell) may use Delta DL-UL SUB-BAND RSRQ_gNB, and / or UL-SUBBAND RSRQ_gNB to decide the handover condition and select a handover mode (for example, an SBFD or non-SBFD mode) for the first apparats 402. For example, if Delta DL-UL SUB-BAND RSRQ_gNB is lower than a threshold, the network device may decide a handover rejection or use the non-SBFD mode for handover.

[0124] An example procedure 600 of cell handover of the first apparatus 402 is shown in FIG. 6. To perform the cell handover, the first apparatus 402 may be in the connected state. The first apparatus 402 may be an SBFD aware UE or an SBFD capable UE. It is assumed that the first apparatus 402 is an SBFD aware UE in the procedure 600.

[0125] At 608, the SBFD aware UE starts the SBFD mode in a serving cell. At 610, after access the serving cell, the SBFD aware UE receives an SBFD RSRQ handover configuration (e.g., via RRC signalling) . The SBFD RSRQ handover configuration may be included in the configuration information for the SBFD mode, and indicate one or more SBFD-specific measurement metrics to be measured by the SBFD aware UE. RSRQ is used herein as an example for Figs. 5 and 6. However, other parameters as described herein may be used in addition to or as an alternative for RSRQ.

[0126] At 612, the SBFD aware UE performs or initiates the cell handover based on determining whether a handover report trigger event criterion related to the SBFD mode is satisfied based on the at least one measurement result of the at least one SBFD-specific measurement metric.

[0127] At 614, the SBFD aware UE determines that an SBFD handover criterion corresponding to the SBFD mode is satisfied. I. e., a different cell satisfies the SBFD handover criterion. Then at block 618, SBFD aware UE may perform handover from the serving cell to the target cell (i.e., said different cell) in the SBFD mode. One or more SBFD handover report trigger event criteria may need to be satisfied in order to satisfy the SBFD handover criterion. In other words, the SBFD handover criterion may include one or more SBFD handover event criterion, and thus the SBFD handover criterion is considered to be defined based on one or more of the SBFD-specific measurement metrics (for example, the DL-SUBBAND RSRQ, the UL-SUBBAND RSRQ_UE, the Delta DL-UL SUB-BAND RSRQ_UE) .

[0128] At 616, the SBFD aware UE determines that the SBFD handover criterion is dissatisfied (e.g., no SBFD handover report trigger event criteria are satisfied) , but a legacy handover criterion is satisfied. Then at block 618, the SBFD aware UE may perform handover from the serving cell to the target cell in the legacy, non-SBFD mode. The legacy handover criterion may not be defined based on the SBFD-specific measurement metrics (for example, the DL-SUBBAND RSRQ, the UL-SUBBAND RSRQ_UE, the Delta DL-UL SUB-BAND RSRQ_UE) . Instead, the legacy handover criterion may be defined based on SS-RSRQ measurements or CSI-RSRQ measurements. It should be appreciated that target cell, selected based on the legacy handover criterion and based on SBFD aware handover criterion, could potentially be the same cell or different cells. E. g., a cell may fulfill signal power or quality requirements in the legacy handover criterion but may not support the SBFD mode and thus cannot be selected for the SBFD mode. In this case, the legacy handover criterion for this cell may be applied based on the legacy signal power or quality measurements in this cell, instead of using the SBFD-specific measurements.

[0129] At 620, the SBFD aware UE determines that the SBFD handover criterion (e.g. first criterion) and the legacy handover criterion (e.g. second criterion) are both dissatisfied. Then at block 622, the SBFD aware UE may camp on the current serving cell in the SBFD mode.

[0130] In some example embodiments, if the SBFD aware UE determines that one or more SBFD handover report trigger event criteria are satisfied, instead of making the cell handover decision, the SBFD aware UE may report the corresponding event (s) to the network device, e.g., the second apparatus 404.

[0131] The second apparatus 404 may then determine whether a cell handover from the serving cell to the target cell with the SBFD mode is accepted or rejected. The determination may be based at least in part on the at least one measurement result of the at least one SBFD-specific measurement metric that is measured by the network device and / or reported by the first SBFD aware UE.

[0132] In some example embodiments, if the second apparatus 404 provides a serving cell for the first apparatus 402, the second apparatus 404 may receive, from the first apparatus 402, a measurement report of an event corresponding to a handover report trigger event criterion related to the SBFD mode. Based on the report of the event, the second apparatus 404 may determine, based at least in part on the at least one measurement result of the at least one SBFD-specific measurement metric, whether a cell handover from the serving cell to the target cell with the SBFD mode is accepted or rejected. For example, the second apparatus may use Delta DL-UL SUB-BAND RSRQ_gNB, and / or UL-SUBBAND RSRQ_gNB to decide the handover condition and select a handover mode (for example, an SBFD or non-SBFD mode) for the first apparats 402. For example, if Delta DL-UL SUB-BAND RSRQ_gNB is lower than a threshold, the network device may decide a handover rejection or use the non-SBFD mode for handover.

[0133] Similarly, if the second apparatus 404 provides a target cell for a cell handover of the first apparatus 402, it may receive from the apparatus providing the serving cell of the first apparatus 402, a request for a cell handover of the first apparatus from the serving cell to the target cell. Based on the request for a cell handover, the second apparatus 404 may determine, based at least in part on the at least one measurement result of the at least one SBFD-specific measurement metric, whether a cell handover from the serving cell to the target cell with the SBFD mode is accepted or rejected.

[0134] FIG. 7 shows a flowchart of an example method 700 implemented at a first apparatus in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the method 700 will be described from the perspective of the first apparatus 402 in FIG. 1.

[0135] At block 710, the first apparatus 402 receives, from a second apparatus, configuration information for a sub-band full-duplex (SBFD) mode in at least one cell. The configuration information indicates at least one downlink frequency sub-band and at least one uplink frequency sub-band for the SBFD mode in the at least one cell. The at  least one cell comprises at least one of a current cell of the first apparatus or a different cell to be switched from the current cell.

[0136] At block 720, the first apparatus 402 obtains at least one measurement result of at least one SBFD-specific measurement metric for the at least one cell within at least one of the following: the at least one downlink frequency sub-band, and the at least one uplink frequency sub-band.

[0137] At block 730, the first apparatus 402 determines, based at least in part on the at least one measurement result of the at least one SBFD-specific measurement metric, whether at least one cell switch criterion related to the SBFD mode is satisfied.

[0138] At block 740, in accordance with a determination that the at least one cell switch criterion related to the SBFD mode is satisfied, the first apparatus 402 performs a cell switch from the current cell to the different cell in the SBFD mode.

[0139] In some example embodiments, the at least one SBFD-specific measurement metric comprises at least one of the following: an SBFD downlink signal quality in a downlink sub-band bandwidth of the at least one downlink frequency sub-band for the SBFD mode; a first SBFD uplink signal quality in an uplink sub-band bandwidth of the at least one uplink frequency sub-band for the SBFD mode; or a first signal quality difference between the SBFD downlink signal quality and the first SBFD uplink signal quality.

[0140] In some example embodiments, a measurement result of the SBFD downlink signal quality is determined based on a reference signal received power (RSRP) , and a received signal strength indicator (RSSI) and a number of resource blocks within the downlink sub-band bandwidth. A measurement result of the first SBFD uplink signal quality is determined based on a RSRP, and a first RSSI and a number of resource blocks within the uplink sub-band bandwidth. The first RSSI within the uplink sub-band bandwidth is measured by the first apparatus.

[0141] In some example embodiments, the first apparatus 402 transmits a measurement report to the second apparatus. The measurement report indicates at least one of the following: a measurement result of a SBFD downlink signal quality in a downlink sub-band bandwidth of the at least one downlink frequency sub-band for the SBFD mode, a measurement result of a first SBFD uplink signal quality in an uplink sub-band bandwidth of the at least one uplink frequency sub-band for the SBFD mode, a measurement result  of a first signal quality difference between the SBFD downlink signal quality and the first SBFD uplink signal quality, or a measurement result of a RSRP measured by the first apparatus.

[0142] In some example embodiments, the configuration information indicates at least one of the following: at least one SBFD-specific measurement metric to be measured for a cell selection or cell reselection in the SBFD mode, or at least one SBFD-specific measurement metric to be measured for a cell handover in the SBFD mode.

[0143] In some example embodiments, in accordance with a determination that a measurement result of a predetermined SBFD-specific measurement metric amongst at least one SBFD-specific measurement metric is below a threshold, the first apparatus 402 triggers a cell reselection procedure. In accordance with a determination that the cell reselection criterion related to the SBFD mode is satisfied, the first apparatus 402 performs a cell reselection from a current cell to a different cell in the SBFD mode. In accordance with a determination that the cell reselection criterion related to the SBFD mode is dissatisfied and a cell reselection criterion related to the non-SBFD mode is satisfied, the first apparatus 402 performs a cell reselection from the current cell to the different cell in the non-SBFD mode.

[0144] In some example embodiments, when the first apparatus is in an idle state or an inactive state, in accordance with a determination that a measurement result of a predetermined SBFD-specific measurement metric amongst at least one SBFD-specific measurement metric for the current cell is equal to or above a threshold, camp on the current cell in the SBFD mode. In accordance with a determination that the measurement result of the predetermined SBFD-specific measurement metric amongst at least one SBFD-specific measurement metric for the current cell is below the threshold, the first apparatus 402 triggers a cell selection procedure; in accordance with a determination that a cell selection criterion related to the SBFD mode is satisfied, the first apparatus 402 camps on the different cell in the SBFD mode. In accordance with a determination that the cell selection criterion related to the SBFD mode is dissatisfied and a cell selection criterion related to a non-SBFD mode is satisfied, the first apparatus 402 camps on the different cell in the non-SBFD mode, where the cell selection criterion related to the SBFD mode is defined based at least in part on the at least one SBFD-specific measurement metric.

[0145] In some example embodiments, the first apparatus 402 determines, based on the at least one measurement result of the at least one SBFD-specific measurement metric, whether a handover report trigger event criterion related to the SBFD mode is satisfied; in accordance with a determination that the handover report trigger event criterion related to the SBFD mode is satisfied, the first apparatus 402 transmits, to the second apparatus, a measurement report of an event corresponding to the handover report trigger event criterion related to the SBFD mode; and in accordance with a determination that no handover report trigger event criterion related to the SBFD mode is satisfied, in accordance with a determination that a handover report trigger event criterion related to a non-SBFD mode is satisfied, the first apparatus 402 transmits, to the second apparatus, a measurement report of an event corresponding to the handover report trigger event criterion related to the non-SBFD mode, and in accordance with a determination that no handover report trigger event criterion related to a non-SBFD mode is satisfied, the first apparatus 402 camps on the current cell.

[0146] In some example embodiments, the first apparatus is or is comprised in a terminal device, and the second apparatus is or is comprised in a network device.

[0147] FIG. 8 shows a flowchart of an example method 800 implemented at a second apparatus in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the method 800 will be described from the perspective of the second apparatus 404 in FIG. 4.

[0148] At block 810, the second apparatus 404 transmits, to a first apparatus, configuration information for a sub-band full-duplex (SBFD) mode. The configuration information at least indicates at least one downlink sub-band and at least one uplink sub-band for a sub-band full-duplex (SBFD) mode in a cell.

[0149] At block 820, the second apparatus 404 obtains at least one measurement result of at least one SBFD-specific measurement metric for the cell within at least one of the following: the at least one downlink frequency sub-band, and the at least one uplink frequency sub-band.

[0150] At block 830, the second apparatus 404 determines, based at least in part on the at least one measurement result of the at least one SBFD-specific measurement metric, whether at least one cell switch criterion related to the SBFD mode is satisfied.

[0151] At block 840, the second apparatus 404 performs a cell switch of the first apparatus to the cell or from the cell to a different cell based on a determination of whether the at least one cell switch criterion related to the SBFD mode is satisfied.

[0152] In some example embodiments, the at least one SBFD-specific measurement metric comprises at least one of the following: a SBFD downlink signal quality in a downlink sub-band bandwidth of the at least one downlink frequency sub-band for the SBFD mode; a first SBFD uplink signal quality in an uplink sub-band bandwidth of the at least one uplink frequency sub-band for the SBFD mode, a first signal quality difference between the SBFD downlink signal quality and the first SBFD uplink signal quality; a second SBFD uplink signal quality in an uplink sub-band bandwidth of the at least one uplink frequency sub-band for the SBFD mode; or a second signal quality difference between the SBFD downlink signal quality and the second SBFD uplink signal quality.
