[0012] Various example arrangements of the present solution are described below with reference to the accompanying figures to enable a person of ordinary skill in the art to make and use the present solution. As would be apparent to those of ordinary skill in the art, after reading the present disclosure, various changes or modifications to the examples described herein can be made without departing from the scope of the present solution. Thus, the present solution is not limited to the example arrangements and applications described and illustrated herein. Additionally, the specific order or hierarchy of steps in the methods disclosed herein are merely example approaches. Based upon design preferences, the specific order or hierarchy of steps of the disclosed methods or processes can be re-arranged while remaining within the scope of the present solution. Thus, those of ordinary skill in the art will understand that the methods and techniques disclosed herein present various steps or acts in a sample order, and the present solution is not limited to the specific order or hierarchy presented unless expressly stated otherwise.

[0013] FIG. 1 illustrates an example wireless communication system 100, in accordance with an arrangement of the present disclosure. The wireless communication system 100 can be used to implement a wireless network, such as a cellular network or a narrowband network. The system 100 includes a Base Station (BS) 102, a User Equipment (UE) 104, and a Smart Node (SN) 106.

[0014] As used herein, an SN is a network node (e.g., a communication node) with the capability to receive and process side control information from the network. More specifically, the SN supports a controllable amplify-and-forward operation or a forward operation of wireless signals. Examples of the SN include a repeater (e.g., a Network-Controlled Repeater (NCR) , UE-controlled repeater, a smart repeater, and so on) , a relay node, a Re-configuration Intelligent Surface (RIS) , an Intelligent Reflecting Surface (IRS) , an Integrated Access and Backhaul (IAB) node, a portion or part of a BS, a Transmission and Reception Point (TRP) , a UE, a controller, a wireless communication device, and so on. As used herein, a forward operation by the SN can refer to one or more of receiving signals, transmitting signals, or receiving and transmitting signals.

[0015] For example, an IAB node is type of network node that does not require a wired backhaul. An Radio Frequency (RF) repeater is another type of network node which performs an amplify-and-forward operation for any signal that it receives. RF repeaters have seen a wide range of deployments in second-generation (2G) , third-generation (3G) , and fourth-generation (4G) cellular networks to supplement the coverage provided by regular full-stack cells. The RF repeater has only a radio unit.

[0016] An NCR is an enhancement over conventional RF repeaters given that an NCR has the capability  to receive and process side control information from the network. Side control information allows an NCR to perform an amplify-and-forward operation more efficiently. Thus, the NCR mitigates necessary noise amplification, transmissions, and receptions with better spatial directivity and provides simplified network integration. The mechanism disclosed herein can be likewise implemented for other systems such as for RIS, and so on.

[0017] The SN 106 can support at least two functionalities. A first functionally of the SN 106 is the ability to receive and decode side control information from a controller (e.g., gNodeB (gNB) , TRP, a UE, or other 3rd party entity) . A second functionality of the SN 106 is the ability to carry out the amplify-and-forward or forward operation according to the side control information received by the SN 106 (e.g., via the first functionality) .

[0018] The BS 102 and the UE 104 can communicate with each other indirectly via the SN 106. For example, the BS 102 can communicate with (e.g., send data, signals, messages, and information to and receive data, signals message, and information from) the SN 106 via a first communication link 110 (e.g., a first wireless communication channel) , and vice versa. The SN 106 can communicate with (e.g., send data, signals, messages, and information to and receive data, signals message, and information from) the UE 104 via a second communication link 120 (e.g., a second wireless communication channel) , and vice versa. The SN 106 can forward the signals received from the BS 102 via the first communication link 110 to the UE 104 via the second communication link 120, in some examples. In some examples, the SN 106 can amplify and forward the signals received from the BS 102 via the first communication link 110 to the UE 104 via the second communication link 120. Accordingly, the SN 106 can extend the coverage of the BS 102.

[0019] As shown, the system 100 can provide wireless communication services for a cluster of cells, e.g., at least 160, 162, 164, 166, 168, 170, and 172 overlaying a geographical area 101. At least one BS is located within each of the cells 160, 162, 164, 166, 168, 170, and 172 and operates at a bandwidth to provide radio coverage and wireless communication services to users (e.g., UEs) within that cell. For example, the BS 102 can operate at a channel transmission bandwidth to provide radio coverage and wireless communication services to UEs within the cell 160, in which the BS 102 is located. Although the UE 104 is shown to be within the cell 160, the BS 102 can communicate indirectly with the UE 104 via the SN 106, so that the UE 104 may or may not be within the cell 160, as long as the UE 104 is within a service area of the SN 106. In other words, as long as the SN 106 is within the cell 160, and the UE 104 is within a service area of the SN 106, the BS 102 can communicate with the UE 104 indirectly via the SN 106.

[0020] In some arrangements, the BS 102 communicates with the SN 106, and vice versa, via a radio frame structure including time-domain units such as frames. The SN 106 communicates with the UE 104, and vice versa, via a radio frame structure including time-domain units such as frames. Each frame can be further divided into subdivisions such as subframes and / or slots. Each slots may include multiple data symbols. In the present disclosure, the BS 102, the UE 104, and the SN 106 are described herein as non-limiting examples of communication nodes or network nodes which can practice the methods disclosed herein. Such communication nodes can be capable of wireless and / or wired communications, in accordance with various arrangements of the present solution.

[0032] In some arrangements, the SN 106 can include a second functional unit to carry out the amplify-and-forward operation or the forward operation of wireless signals received according to the side control information received by the SN. Examples of the second functional unit include a Forwarding Unit (FU or Fwd) , a Radio Unit (RU) , a Distributed Unit (DU) , a part or a functional unit of UE, a part of a functional unit of an RIS, and so on. FU 320 is used to generally refer to various examples of the second functional unit. The FU 320 can be implemented using a combination of the SN processor module 264 and the SN memory module 266.

[0033] In some examples, the CU 310 and the FU 320 can be separate and / or dedicated components or hardware of the SN 106 (e.g., separate SN processor modules 264 and SN memory modules 266) . In some examples, the CU 310 and the FU 320 can be different logics or algorithms running on a same component or hardware of the SN 106 (e.g., the same SN processor module 264 and the SN memory module 266) . In some examples, the SN 106 can include an interface to enable information exchange / transition between the CU 310 and the FU 320.

[0034] Control links between the BS 102 and the CU 310 include links C1 and C2, over the first communication link 110. Control links between the CU 310 and the UE 104 include links C3 and C4, over the second communication link 120. Forwarding links between the BS 102 and the FU 320 include links F1 and F2, over the first communication link 110. Forwarding links between the FU 320 and the UE 104 include links F3 and F4, over the second communication link 120.

[0035] In some examples, the links C1 and C4 are control links (C-links) from a controller (e.g., the BS 102 or the UE 104) to the CU 310. The links C2 and C3 are C-links from the CU 310 to a controller (e.g., the BS 102 or the UE 104) . The link F1 is a forwarding link (F-link) from the BS 102 to the FU 320. The link F2 is a F-link from the FU 320 to the BS 102. The link F3 is a forwarding link from the FU 320 to the UE 104. The link F4 is a forwarding link from the UE 104 to the FU 320.

[0036] Signals from the BS 102 to the FU 320 via the F-link F1 and signals from the UE 104 to the FU  320 via the F-link F4 are unknown by the FU 320. The FU 320 simply forwards or amplifies and forwards those signals without decoding the same. The links F1 and F2 are also referred to as backhaul links (B-links) . The links F3 and F4 are also referred to as access links (A-links) . A B-link and an A-link are parts of the F-link, and the combination of the two constitutes a complete F-link. For example, the combination of the links F1 and F3 is the complete downlink F-link from the BS 102 to the UE 104, in which the link F3 is the SN FU downlink F-link. The combination of the links F2 and F4 is the complete uplink F-link from the UE 104 to the BS 102, in which the link F2 is the SN FU uplink F-link.

[0037] In a C-link, a signal from a sender will be detected and decoded by the receiver, so that the information transmitting in the C-link can be utilized to control the status of a F-link. For example, signals from the BS 102 to the CU 310 via the C-link C1 and signals from the UE 104 to the CU 310 via the C-link C4 are detected, decoded, and processed by the CU 310, to control the F-links. In some arrangements, the C-links C3 and C4 are excluded.

[0038] The CU 310 can receive side control information from the controller (e.g., via at least one of the links C1 and C4) to control the amplify-and-forward operation or the forward operation of the FU 302. Examples of the side control information include Downlink Control Information (DCI) , Uplink Control Information (UCI) , Sidelink (or Side) Control Information (SCI) , and so on. After receiving side control information, a certain time delay is needed for the SN 106 to decode the side control information, to perform beam switching, and / or perform inter-module operation.

[0039] The CU 310 uses a first numerology, first Subcarrier Spacing (SCS) , and a first Cyclic Prefix (CP) for its transmissions such as Physical Downlink Control Channels (PDCCH) , Physical Uplink Control Channel, and so on. The FU 320 uses a second numerology (e.g., a reference numerology) , second SCS (e.g., a reference SCS) , and a second CP (e.g., a reference CP) for its forwarding operations. In some examples, the first numerology is different from the second numerology. In some examples, the first SCS is different from the second SCS. In some examples, the first CP is different from the second CP.

[0040] FIG. 4 is a diagram illustrating an example wireless communication system 400 where the SN 106 supports a M-TRP (Multiple –transmission and reception point) feature, according to various arrangements. The wireless communication system 400 can include a plurality of TRPs 402. In some examples, at least one of the TRPs 402 is a BS, such that the description included herein with respect to the BS 102 applies to the at least one of the TRPs 402 that is a BS. In some arrangements, each TRP 402 is located in a different geographical location. In some arrangements, the TRPs 402 support both downlink transmission and uplink reception.

[0041] The wireless communication system 400 includes a control link 404 between each of the TRPs 402 and the CU 310. In some arrangements, the control link 404 includes two links between each of the TRPs 402 and the CU 310 that include a first link (e.g., the link C1) through which signals are transmitted from the TRP 402 (e.g., the BS 102, etc. ) to the CU 310 and a second link (e.g., the link C2) through which signals are transmitted from the CU 310 to the TRP 402 (i.e., the control link 404 includes the links C1 and C2) .

[0042] The wireless communication system 400 includes a backhaul link 406 between each of the TRPs 402 and the FU 320. In some arrangements, the backhaul link 406 includes two links between each of the TRPs  402 and the FU 320 that include a first link (e.g., the link F1) through which signals are transmitted from the TRP 402 (e.g., the BS 102, etc. ) to the FU 320 and a second link (e.g., the link F2) through which signals are transmitted from the FU 320 to the TRP 402 (i.e., the backhaul link 406 includes the links F1 and F2) .

[0043] The wireless communication system 400 includes an access link 408 between the FU 320 and the UE 104. In some arrangements, the access link 408 includes two links between the FU 320 and the CU 310 that include a first link (e.g., the link F3) through which signals are transmitted from the FU 320 to the UE 104 and a second link (e.g., the link F4) through which signals are transmitted from the UE 104 to the FU 320 (i.e., the access link 408 includes the links F3 and F4) .

[0044] The M-TRP improves coverage at the edge of the cell and provide a more balanced quality of service. As a type of multiple point collaboration technology, the M-TRP feature is an important technical means in 5G New Radio (NR) and even future 6G systems. As a quasi-UE device, the CU 310 supports the M-TRP feature. In some arrangement, in which the CU 310 supports the M-TRP feature, the forwarding of the FU 320 is affected (e.g. beam determination for both receptions and transmissions) . Operations of the FU 320 to perform appropriate forward operation are disclosed herein.

[0045] In this disclosure, a “beam” can be represented using a variety of terms, such as a “Quasi Co Location (QCL) ” , “QCL assumption” , “QCL parameter (s) ” , “Transmission Configuration Indication (TCI) ” , “ (Downlink (DL)  / Uplink (UL)  / joint / unified) TCI state” , “spatial relation” , “spatial filter” , “resource” , “signal / channel index (e.g. SSB index) ” , etc. For example, for downlink, a same beam used for two downlink channels / signals can be represented by or equivalent to a same TCI state or a same QCI assumption used for two downlink channels / signals. For uplink, a same beam used for two uplink channels / signals can be represented by or equivalent to a same spatial relation, a same spatial filter, or a same (UL) TCI state used for two uplink channels / signals.

[0046] FIG. 5 is a flowchart diagram illustrating an example method 500 for determining forwarding operations of the SN 106, according to various arrangements. The method 500 can be performed by the SN 106 (e.g., the CU 310 (e.g., SN CU) and the FU 320 (e.g., SN FU) ) . It is to be appreciated that each step of the method 500 disclosed herein may be reordered relative to other steps of the method 500, omitted (e.g., skipped, etc. ) , or duplicated (e.g., repeated, multiplied, etc. ) , while remaining within the scope of this disclosure.

[0047] At 502, the SN 106 may determine whether the SN 106 simultaneously or non-simultaneously receives / transmits via both the control link 404 and the backhaul link 406.

[0048] At 510, the SN 106 determines that it simultaneously receives / transmits via both the control link 404 and the backhaul link 406. Where the SN 106 simultaneously receives / transmits via both the control link 404 and the backhaul link 406 in a set of time-domain resources (e.g., symbols) , a beam for receptions / transmissions on the backhaul link 406 is the same as a beam for receptions / transmission on the control link 404 in the set of time-domain resources (e.g., symbols) .

[0049] At 512, in response to determining that the SN 106 simultaneously receives / transmits via both the control link 404 and the backhaul link 406 (at 510) and based on utilization of a single-DCI (S-DCI) scheme, the SN 106 determines that the beam for receptions / transmissions on the backhaul link 406 is same as the j-th  beam of multiple beams for receptions / transmissions on the control link 404 in a set of time-domain resources (e.g., symbols) . For example, where multiple beams (one, two, or more, e.g., two) are indicated to or determined by the SN 106 (i.e., the CU 310) for receptions / transmissions on the control link 404 in the set of time-domain resources (e.g., symbols) , the beam for receptions / transmissions on the control link 404 refers to the j-th beam of the multiple beams. j may be equal to 1, 2, or other integers. In some arrangements, j is preferred as 1 as a non-1th beam may not be present. In some arrangements, the multiple beams can be indicated in a codepoint in a DCI, Medium Access Control Control Element (MAC CE) , RRC signaling, or a combination thereof. The DCI, CE, or RRC signaling can be indicated to the SN 106 (e.g., the CU 310 (e.g., the SN CU) ) by the BS 102 / the TRP 402.

[0050] At 514, in response to determining that the SN 106 simultaneously receives / transmits via both the control link 404 and the backhaul link 406 (at 510) and based on utilization of a multiple-DCI (M-DCI) scheme, the SN 106 determines that the beam for receptions / transmissions on the backhaul link 406 is same as the beam specific to Control Resource Set (CORESET) pool index value i for receptions / transmissions on the control link 404 in a set of time-domain resources (e.g., symbols) . For example, where multiple different CORESET pool index values are configured (e.g. one CORESET pool index value = 0 and one CORESET pool index value = 1, etc. ) , the beam for receptions / transmissions on the control link 404 refers to the beam specific to a CORESET pool index value of i. i may be equal to 0, 1, or other integers. In some arrangements, i is preferred as 0 as the non-0 value of CORESET pool index may not be present.

[0051] In some arrangements, where the SN 106 performs simultaneous receptions of the backhaul link 406 and the control link 404, a beam can be represented by a TCI state, a unified TCI state, a joint TCI state, or QCI parameters. When the SN 106 simultaneously receives signals, via both the control link 404 and the backhaul link 406 in a set of time-domain resources (e.g., symbols) , a TCI state for receptions on the backhaul link 406 is same as a TCI state for receptions on the control link 404 in the set of time-domain resources (e.g., symbols) .

[0052] In some arrangements, where multiple TCI states (one, two, or more, e.g., two) are indicated to or determined by the SN 106 (i.e., the CU 310) for receptions on the control link 404 in the set of time-domain resources (e.g., symbols) (e.g., at 512) , the TCI state for receptions on the control link 404 refers to the j-th of the multiple TCI states. J may be equal to 1, 2, or other integers. In some arrangements, j is preferred as 1 as the non-1th TCI state may not be present. In some arrangements, the multiple TCI states can be indicated in a codepoint in a DCI, MAC CE, RRC signaling, or a combination thereof. The DCI, MAC CE, or RRC signaling can be indicated to the SN 106 (e.g., the CU 310 (e.g., the SN CU) ) by the BS 102 / the TRP 402.

[0053] For the j-th of the multiple TCI states, the j-th may be the j-th TCI state of multiple TCI states, the j-th joint TCI state of multiple joint TCI states, the j-th unified TCI state of multiple unified TCI states, the j-th DL TCI state of multiple DL TCI states, the TCI state with TCI state ID j of multiple TCI states (or the TCI state corresponds to the j-th TCI state ID) , or the like.

[0054] In some arrangements, where multiple different CORESET pool index values are configured (e.g. one CORESET pool index value = 0 and one CORESET pool index value = 1) (e.g., at 514) , the TCI state for receptions on the control link 404 refers to the TCI state specific to CORESET pool index value i. i may be equal  to 0, 1, or other integers. In some arrangements, i is preferred as 0 as the non-0 value of CORESET pool index may not be present. In some arrangements, each CORESET pool index value has a corresponding indicated TCI state.

[0055] Examples of the TCI state specific to CORESET pool index value i include a unified TCI state specific to CORESET pool index value i, a joint TCI state specific to CORESET pool index value i, a DL TCI state specific to CORESET pool index value i, or the like.

[0056] In some arrangements, where the SN 106 performs simultaneous transmissions of the backhaul link 406 and the control link 404, a beam can be represented by a spatial relation, a spatial filter, a (UL) TCI state, or a signal / channel resource. When the SN 106 simultaneously transmits signals, via both the control link 404 and the backhaul link 406 in a set of time-domain resources (e.g., symbols) , a spatial filter for transmissions on the backhaul link 406 is same as a spatial filter for transmissions on the control link 404 in the set of time-domain resources (e.g., symbols) .

[0057] In some arrangements, where multiple TCI states or spatial relations (e.g. two or more) are indicated or determined for transmissions on the control link 404 in the set of time-domain resources (e.g., symbols) (e.g., at 512) , the spatial filter for transmissions on the control link 404 corresponds to the j-th of the multiple TCI states or spatial relations. j may be equal to 1, 2, or other integers. In some arrangements, j is preferred as 1 as the non-1th TCI state may not be present. In some arrangements, the multiple TCI states or spatial relations can be indicated in a codepoint in a DCI, MAC CE, RRC signaling, or a combination thereof. The DCI, MAC CE, or RRC signaling can be indicated to the SN 106 (e.g., the CU 310 (e.g., the SN CU) ) by the BS 102 / the TRP 402.

[0058] For the j-th of the multiple TCI states or spatial relations, the j-th may be the j-th joint TCI state of multiple joint TCI states, the j-th unified TCI state of multiple unified TCI states, the j-th UL TCI state of multiple UL TCI states, the j-th spatial relation of multiple spatial relations, the j-th signal / channel resource of multiple resources, or the like.

[0059] In some arrangements, where multiple different CORESET pool index values are configured (e.g. one CORESET pool index value = 0 and one CORESET pool index value = 1) (e.g., at 514) , the spatial filter for transmissions on the control link 404 corresponds to the TCI state specific to CORESET pool index value i. i may be equal to 0, 1, or other integers. In some arrangements, i is preferred as 0 as the non-0 value of CORESET pool index may not be present. In some arrangements, each CORESET pool index value has a corresponding indicated TCI state.

[0060] Examples of the TCI state specific to CORESET pool index value i include a unified TCI state specific to CORESET pool index value i, a joint TCI state specific to CORESET pool index value i, a UL TCI state specific to CORESET pool index value i, or the like.

[0061] At 520, the SN 106 determines that it non-simultaneously receives / transmits via the control link 404 and the backhaul link 406. Where the SN 106 does not simultaneously receive / transmit on the control link 404 and the backhaul link 406, the SN 106 does not support determination of a beam for receptions / transmissions on the backhaul link 406 based on an indication of a beam by the serving cell, or, if the SN 106 does not receive  or has not yet applied an indication of a beam, for receptions / transmissions on the backhaul link 406.

[0062] In some arrangements, where the SN 106 does not receive an indication of a unified / joint beam (i.e., unified / joint TCI state) for receptions / transmissions by the CU 310, receptions / transmissions on the backhaul link 406 use same beam as a beam for PDCCH receptions in a CORESET with a lowest CORESET identifier (ID) in an active DL Bandwidth Part (BWP) , or a beam for a Physical Uplink Control Channel (PUCCH) transmissions with a lowest PUCCH resource identifier (ID) .

[0063] At 522, in response to determining that the SN 106 non-simultaneously receives / transmits via the control link 404 and the backhaul link 406 (at 520) , the SN 106 does not receive an indication of a unified / joint beam (i.e., unified / joint TCI state) for receptions / transmissions by the CU 310, and based on utilization of the S-DCI scheme, the SN 106 determines that the beam for receptions / transmissions on the backhaul link 406 is same as the j-th beam for PDCCH receptions in a CORESET with lowest CORESET ID. For example, where multiple beams (one, two, or more, e.g., two) are indicated or determined for PDCCH receptions in the CORESET, receptions / transmissions on the backhaul link 406 use same beam as the beam associated with the j-th beam for PDCCH receptions in the CORESET with the lowest CORESET ID. j may be equal to1, 2, or other integers. In some arrangements, j is preferred as 1 as the non-1th beam may not be present. In some arrangements, the multiple beams can be indicated in a codepoint in a DCI, MAC CE, RRC signaling, or a combination thereof. The DCI, MAC CE, or RRC signaling can be indicated to the SN 106 (e.g., the CU 310 (e.g., the SN CU) ) by the BS 102 / the TRP 402.

[0064] At 524, in response to determining that the SN 106 non-simultaneously receives / transmits via the control link 404 and the backhaul link 406 (at 520) , the SN 106 does not receive an indication of a unified / joint beam (i.e., unified / joint TCI state) for receptions / transmissions by the CU 310, and based on utilization of the M-DCI scheme, the SN 106 determines that the beam for receptions / transmissions on the backhaul link 406 is same as the beam for PDCCH receptions in a CORESET with the lowest CORESET ID and with CORESET pool index i. For example, where multiple different CORESET pool index values are configured (e.g. one CORESET pool index value = 0 and one CORESET pool index value = 1) , the value of CORESET pool index of the CORESET with the lowest CORESET ID is configured as i. i may be equal to 0, 1, or other integers. In some arrangements, i is preferred as 0 as the non-0 value of CORESET pool index may not be present.

[0065] At 526, in response to determining that the SN 106 non-simultaneously receives / transmits via the control link 404 and the backhaul link 406 (at 520) , the SN 106 does not receive an indication of a unified / joint beam (i.e., unified / joint TCI state) for receptions / transmissions by the CU 310, and based on utilization of the S-DCI scheme, the SN 106 determines that the beam for receptions / transmissions on the backhaul link 406 is same as the j-th beam for PUCCH transmissions with the lowest PUCCH resource ID and with lowest spatial relation ID. For example, where multiple beams (one, two, or more, e.g., two) are indicated or determined for PUCCH transmission, transmissions on the backhaul link 406 use same beam as the beam for PUCCH transmissions with the lowest PUCCH resource ID and with a lowest spatial relation identifier (ID) (e.g., a lowest spatial relation ID of two spatial relation IDs, three spatial relation IDs, etc. ) .

[0066] In some arrangements, where the SN 106 does receive an indication of the unified / joint beam (i.e., unified / joint TCI state) for receptions / transmissions by the CU 310, receptions / transmissions on the backhaul  link 406 use the same beam as an indicated unified / joint beam for receptions / transmissions by the CU 310.

[0067] At 528, in response to determining that the SN 106 non-simultaneously receives / transmits via the control link 404 and the backhaul link 406 (at 520) , the SN 106 does receive an indication of a unified / joint beam (i.e., unified / joint TCI state) for receptions / transmissions by the CU 310, and based on utilization of the S-DCI scheme, the SN 106 determines that the beam for receptions / transmissions on the backhaul link 406 is same as the j-th unified / joint beam of multiple beams for receptions / transmissions on the control link 404 in a set of time-domain resources (e.g., symbols) . For example, where multiple unified / joint beams (one, two, or more, e.g., two) are indicated for transmissions / receptions on the control link 404, the indicated unified / joint beam refers to the j-th of the multiple unified / joint beams. j may be equal to 1, 2, or other integers. In some arrangements, j is preferred as 1 as the non-1th beam may not be present. In some arrangements, the multiple unified / joint beams can be indicated in a codepoint in a DCI, MAC CE, RRC signaling, or a combination thereof. The DCI, MAC CE, or RRC signaling can be indicated to the SN 106 (e.g., the CU 310 (e.g., the SN CU) ) by the BS 102 / the TRP 402.

[0068] At 530, in response to determining that the SN 106 non-simultaneously receives / transmits via the control link 404 and the backhaul link 406 (at 520) , the SN 106 does receive an indication of a unified / joint beam (i.e., unified / joint TCI state) for receptions / transmissions by the CU 310, and based on utilization of the M-DCI scheme, the SN 106 determines the beam for receptions / transmissions on the backhaul link 406 is same as the unified / joint beam specific to CORESET pool index value i for receptions / transmissions on the control link 404 in a set of time-domain resources (e.g., symbols) . For example, where multiple different CORESET pool index values are configured (e.g. one CORESET pool index value = 0 and one CORESET pool index value = 1) , the indicated unified / joint beam refers to the unified / joint beam specific to CORESET pool index value i. i may be equal to 0, 1, or other integers. In some arrangements, i is preferred as 0 as the non-0 value of CORESET pool index may not be present. In some arrangements, each CORESET pool index value has a corresponding indicated unified / joint beam.

[0069] In some arrangements, where the SN 106 does not simultaneously receive on the control link 404 and the backhaul link 406, the SN 106 does not support determination of a TCI state for receptions on the backhaul link 406 based on an indication of a TCI state by the serving cell, or if the SN 106 does not receive or has not yet applied an indication of a TCI state, for receptions on the backhaul link. The beam can be represented by a TCI state, a unified TCI state, a joint TCI state, or QCI parameters.

[0070] In some arrangements, where the SN 106 does not receive an indication of a unified / joint TCI state for receptions by the CU 310, receptions on the backhaul link 406 use same QCL parameters as the ones for PDCCH receptions in a CORESET with the lowest CORESET ID in the active DL BWP.

[0071] In some arrangements, where multiple TCI states (one, two, or more, e.g., two) are indicated or determined for PDCCH receptions in the CORESET (e.g., at 522) , receptions on the backhaul link 406 use same QCL parameters as the ones associated with the j-th TCI state of the multiple TCI states for PDCCH receptions in the CORESET with the lowest CORESET ID. j may be equal to 1, 2, or other integers.

[0086] FIG. 6 is a flowchart diagram illustrating an example method 600 for determining transmission / receival of signals on links using the SN 106, according to various arrangements. The method 600 can be performed by the SN 106 (e.g., the CU 310 (e.g., the SN CU) and the FU 320 (e.g., the SN FU) ) .

[0087] At 610, a SN (e.g., the SN 106) determines a plurality of first beams for at least one of a transmission or reception on a control link (e.g., the control link 404, etc. ) of the SN (e.g., the SN 106) . At 620, the SN determines a second beam for at least one of a transmission or reception on a backhaul link (e.g., the backhaul link 406, etc. ) of the SN. The second beam is same as a j-th beam of the plurality of first beams. j is an integer. In some examples, j may be a positive integer (e.g., 1, 2, 4, etc. ) .

[0088] In some examples, when the SN (e.g., the SN 106) simultaneously transmits or receives via both the control link (e.g., the control link 404) and the backhaul link (e.g., the backhaul link 406) in a set of time-domain resources (e.g., symbols) , the time-domain resources includes the at least one of the transmission or reception on the control link and the at least one of the transmission or reception on the backhaul link. The second beam for the at least one of the transmission or the reception on the backhaul link is same as the j-th beam of the plurality of first beams for the at least one of the transmission or the reception on the control link in the set of time-domain resources.

[0089] In some examples, the plurality of first beams is indicated in a codepoint in a Downlink Control Information (DCI) , a Medica Access Control (MAC) Control Element (CE) , or a Radio Resource Control (RRC) signaling.

[0090] In some examples, the plurality of first beams corresponds to a Control Resource Set (CORESET) pool index value.

[0091] In some examples, the j-th beam of the plurality of first beams is a beam specific to a Control Resource Set (CORESET) pool index value i. i is an integer.

[0092] In some examples, the second beam is represented by or equivalent to at least one of a Quasi Co Location (QCL) , QCL assumption, QCL parameter (s) , Transmission Configuration Indicator (TCI) , Downlink (DL)  / Uplink (UL)  / joint / unified TCI state, spatial relation, spatial filter, resource, or signal / channel index.

[0093] In some examples, the j-th beam of the plurality of first beams is represented by or equivalent to at least one of a j-th Transmission Configuration Indicator (TCI) state of multiple TCI states, a j-th joint TCI state of multiple joint TCI states, a j-th unified TCI state of multiple unified TCI states, a j-th Downlink (DL) TCI state of multiple DL TCI states, a TCI state with TCI state identifier (ID) j of multiple TCI states, a unified TCI state specific to a Control Resource Set (CORESET) pool index value i, where i is an integer, a joint TCI state specific to the CORESET pool index value i, a DL TCI state specific to the CORESET pool index value i, a j-th Uplink (UL) TCI state of multiple UL TCI states, a j-th spatial relation of multiple spatial relations, a j-th signal / channel resource of multiple signal / channel resources, or a UL TCI state specific to the CORESET pool index value i.

[0094] In some examples, the SN (e.g., the SN 106) does not communicate via both the control link (e.g., the control link 404) and the backhaul link (e.g., the backhaul link 406) simultaneously. Communicating on each of the control link or the backhaul link includes at least one of receiving or transmitting.

[0095] In some examples, the SN (e.g., the SN 106) does not receive an indication of a unified / joint beam for at least one of a transmission or reception on the control link (e.g., the control link 404) of the SN, and the j-th beam of the plurality of first beams is a j-th beam for downlink control channel receptions in a Control Resource Set (CORESET) with a lowest CORESET Identifier (ID) .

[0096] In some examples, the j-th beam for the downlink control channel receptions in the CORESET with the lowest CORESET ID is represented by or equivalent to at least one of a j-th Transmission Configuration Indicator (TCI) state of a plurality of TCI states for the downlink control channel receptions in the CORESET with the lowest CORESET ID, a TCI state for the downlink control channel receptions in the CORESET with  the lowest CORESET ID and with a CORESET pool index i, where i is an integer, a spatial filter with a reference to QCL parameters associated with a j-th TCI state of a plurality of TCI states for the PDCCH receptions in the CORESET with the lowest CORESET ID, or a spatial filter with a reference to QCL parameters for the PDCCH receptions in the CORESET with the lowest CORESET ID and with a CORESET pool index value i, where i is an integer.

[0097] In some examples, the SN (e.g., the SN 106) does not receive an indication of a unified / joint beam for at least one of a reception or transmission on the control link (e.g., the control link 404) of the SN, and the j-th beam of the plurality of first beams is a j-th beam for uplink control channel transmissions with a lowest uplink control channel resource ID.

[0098] In some examples, the j-th beam for the uplink control channel transmissions with the lowest uplink control channel resource ID is represented by or equivalent to a spatial filter associated with the lowest uplink control channel resource ID and with a lowest spatial relation ID.

[0099] In some examples, the SN (e.g., the SN 106) receives an indication of a unified / joint beam for at least one of a transmission or reception on the control link (e.g., the control link 404) of the SN, and the at least one of the transmission or reception on the backhaul link (e.g., the backhaul link 406) uses a same beam as a j-th indicated unified / joint beam for at least one of the transmission or reception on the control link of the SN.

[0100] In some examples, the j-th indicated unified / joint beam for the at least one of the transmission or reception on the control link (e.g., the control link 404) of the SN (e.g., the SN 106) is represented by or equivalent to at least one of a j-th joint Transmission Configuration Indicator (TCI) state of multiple joint TCI states, a j-th unified TCI state of multiple unified TCI states, a j-th TCI state of multiple TCI states, a j-th DL TCI state of multiple DL TCI states, a j-th UL TCI state of multiple UL TCI states, a unified TCI state specific to a Control Resource Set (CORESET) pool index value i, or a joint TCI state specific to the CORESET pool index value i.

[0101] In some examples, a wireless communication apparatus includes at least one processor and a memory, wherein the at least one processor is configured to read code from the memory and implement the method 500 and / or the method 600.

[0102] In some examples, a computer program product includes a computer-readable program medium code stored thereupon, the code, when executed by at least one processor, causing the at least one processor to implement the method 500 and / or the method 600.

[0103] While various arrangements of the present disclosure have been described above, it should be understood that they have been presented by way of example only, and not by way of limitation. Likewise, the various diagrams may depict an example architectural or configuration, which are provided to enable persons of ordinary skill in the art to understand example features and functions of the present solution. Such persons would understand, however, that the solution is not restricted to the illustrated example architectures or configurations, but can be implemented using a variety of alternative architectures and configurations. Additionally, as would be understood by persons of ordinary skill in the art, one or more features of one arrangement can be combined with one or more features of another arrangement described herein. Thus, the breadth and scope of the present  disclosure should not be limited by any of the above-described illustrative arrangements.

[0104] It is also understood that any reference to an element herein using a designation such as "first, " "second, " and so forth does not generally limit the quantity or order of those elements. Rather, these designations can be used herein as a convenient means of distinguishing between two or more elements or instances of an element. Thus, a reference to first and second elements does not mean that only two elements can be employed, or that the first element must precede the second element in some manner.

[0105] Additionally, a person having ordinary skill in the art would understand that information and signals can be represented using any of a variety of different technologies and techniques. For example, data, instructions, commands, information, signals, bits and symbols, for example, which may be referenced in the above description can be represented by voltages, currents, electromagnetic waves, magnetic fields or particles, optical fields or particles, or any combination thereof.

[0106] A person of ordinary skill in the art would further appreciate that any of the various illustrative logical blocks, modules, processors, means, circuits, methods and functions described in connection with the aspects disclosed herein can be implemented by electronic hardware (e.g., a digital implementation, an analog implementation, or a combination of the two) , firmware, various forms of program or design code incorporating instructions (which can be referred to herein, for convenience, as "software" or a "software module) , or any combination of these techniques. To clearly illustrate this interchangeability of hardware, firmware and software, various illustrative components, blocks, modules, circuits, and steps have been described above generally in terms of their functionality. Whether such functionality is implemented as hardware, firmware or software, or a combination of these techniques, depends upon the particular application and design constraints imposed on the overall system. Skilled artisans can implement the described functionality in various ways for each particular application, but such implementation decisions do not cause a departure from the scope of the present disclosure.

[0107] Furthermore, a person of ordinary skill in the art would understand that various illustrative logical blocks, modules, devices, components and circuits described herein can be implemented within or performed by an integrated circuit (IC) that can include a general purpose processor, a digital signal processor (DSP) , an application specific integrated circuit (ASIC) , a field programmable gate array (FPGA) or other programmable logic device, or any combination thereof. The logical blocks, modules, and circuits can further include antennas and / or transceivers to communicate with various components within the network or within the device. A general purpose processor can be a microprocessor, but in the alternative, the processor can be any conventional processor, controller, or state machine. A processor can also be implemented as a combination of computing devices, e.g., a combination of a DSP and a microprocessor, a plurality of microprocessors, one or more microprocessors in conjunction with a DSP core, or any other suitable configuration to perform the functions described herein.

[0108] If implemented in software, the functions can be stored as one or more instructions or code on a computer-readable medium. Thus, the steps of a method or algorithm disclosed herein can be implemented as software stored on a computer-readable medium. Computer-readable media includes both computer storage media and communication media including any medium that can be enabled to transfer a computer program or code from one place to another. A storage media can be any available media that can be accessed by a computer.  By way of example, and not limitation, such computer-readable media can include RAM, ROM, EEPROM, CD-ROM or other optical disk storage, magnetic disk storage or other magnetic storage devices, or any other medium that can be used to store desired program code in the form of instructions or data structures and that can be accessed by a computer.

[0109] In this document, the term "module" as used herein, refers to software, firmware, hardware, and any combination of these elements for performing the associated functions described herein. Additionally, for purpose of discussion, the various modules are described as discrete modules; however, as would be apparent to one of ordinary skill in the art, two or more modules may be combined to form a single module that performs the associated functions according arrangements of the present solution.

[0110] Additionally, memory or other storage, as well as communication components, may be employed in arrangements of the present solution. It will be appreciated that, for clarity purposes, the above description has described arrangements of the present solution with reference to different functional units and processors. However, it will be apparent that any suitable distribution of functionality between different functional units, processing logic elements or domains may be used without detracting from the present solution. For example, functionality illustrated to be performed by separate processing logic elements, or controllers, may be performed by the same processing logic element, or controller. Hence, references to specific functional units are only references to a suitable means for providing the described functionality, rather than indicative of a strict logical or physical structure or organization.

[0111] Various modifications to the implementations described in this disclosure will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art, and the general principles defined herein can be applied to other implementations without departing from the scope of this disclosure. Thus, the disclosure is not intended to be limited to the implementations shown herein, but is to be accorded the widest scope consistent with the novel features and principles disclosed herein, as recited in the claims below.
