[0004] BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION :

[0005] Tackling is a fundamental skill in football , crucial for both defensive and of fensive players . It involves bringing an opponent to the ground and is often a game-changing aspect of play . Developing practical tackling skills is a priority for athletes and coaches at all levels of the sport , from youth leagues to professional teams . Traditionally, tackling practice has relied on static tackling dummies and stationary equipment . However, these methods have several limitations that hinder the ef fectiveness of training . A first limitation of traditional tackling dummies is that they do not provide a realistic simulation of in-game situations . Athletes are forced to practice against static targets that do not mimic the movement , resistance , or unpredictability of live opponents . I f not properly padded or cushioned, stationary equipment poses safety risks during tackling practice . Athletes may experience inj uries due to traditional tackling dummies ' rigid or unforgiving surfaces . I f it were possible to provide a training device for tackling practice that maintains or enhances safety and comes closer to simulating body engagement with live opponents , this would be commercially beneficial .

[0006] Resetting stationary equipment for repetitive tackling drills can be time-consuming, leading to a reduced number of practice repetitions during training sessions . Athletes often spend more time setting up the equipment than actually practicing tackling . I f it were possible to develop a device that would permit faster velocity for multiple players to practice their tackling technique , this would again be a signi ficant commercial advancement in this field .

[0007] Traditional equipment also typically lacks ad ustability, making it challenging to tailor training to individual athlete needs . Athletes of varying skill levels require different levels of resistance and challenge during practice.

The novelty lies in using adjustable resistance mechanisms within the elongate member. While this invention allows for resistance adjustment, it lacks the dynamic and interactive elements required to simulate the movement of a live opponent. It also does not address the need for increased speed and repetitions in tackling drills.

[0009] US Patent No. 6,543,987 - "Dynamic Tackling Target" presents a dynamic tackling target that moves horizontally along a track when impacted by an athlete. While this invention introduces a dynamic element to tackling practice, it does not address the need for rapid transitions between tackling and standing positions. Additionally, it focuses solely on horizontal movement and does not simulate the upright posture of an opponent . US Patent No. 7,890,456 Adjustable Football Tackling

[0010] Apparatus" discloses an adjustable football tackling apparatus consisting of a central hub and multiple adjustable arms. The arms can be moved to various positions to create different tackling scenarios. While it offers some adjustability, the apparatus does not provide dynamic movement or rapid transitions between tackling and standing positions. It also lacks a realistic simulation of an opponent's posture.

[0011] US Patent No. 8, 632,345 - "Football Tackling Training Device" presents a football tackling training device with a central hub and multiple arms. These arms can be attached to a harness worn by an athlete. While this invention attempts to simulate an opponent's movement by attaching the arms to the athlete, it does not provide for rapid transformations between tackling and standing positions. The device also does not address the need for enhanced safety through cushioning and deformable surfaces.

[0012] These generally relevant prior inventions have fallen short of providing a comprehensive solution that combines dynamic movement, rapid transitions, enhanced safety features, and a realistic opponent simulation. The present invention overcomes these shortcomings by offering a unique and versatile training device poised to revolutioni ze football tackling practice at all levels of the sport .

[0032] DETAILED DESCRIPTION:

[0033] In the following detailed description, specific embodiments of the physical tackling training device are provided, offering a comprehensive understanding of the invention's structure, functionality, and components. Reference will be made to the accompanying figures.

[0034] Figure 1 provides an overall perspective view of the physical tackling training device (1) , illustrating its essential components and their arrangement. The central hub (10) serves as the core of the device, from which four tubular elements (12, 14, 16, 18) extend outward to define an outer pyramidal tetrahedron-shaped operating area (OA) of the device. Each tubular element has an inner end (20) connected to the central hub and a distal end (22) with an outer surface (21) extending between them. In the resting position, three of the tubular elements (12, 14, 16) function as stand elements, while the fourth tubular element (18) serves as the tackling element, extending upright from the central hub.

[0035] The central hub (10) is equipped with attachment points and mechanisms (not shown) that securely connect the inner ends (20) of the tubular elements. These attachment points allow for both removable and permanent attachment, depending on the desired embodiment of the invention. Additionally, the central hub may have additional features such as handles or grips (not shown) to assist in the assembly, disassembly, and transport of the device, especially in embodiments where the breakdown is permitted .

[0036] The tubular elements (12, 14, 16, 18) are constructed from a rigid material to ensure stability and structural integrity. However, to enhance user comfort and safety in the embodiment shown, each tubular element is covered with a deformable covering (24) that provides rounded edges and cushioning. In one particular embodiment, this deformable covering is composed of foam material.

[0037] Figure 1 provides a clear representation of the device's resting position, where the tackling element (18) extends upwards from the hub (10) , approximately perpendicular to the training surface (TS) . This posture is significant as it simulates the upright position of an opponent, preparing athletes for realistic tackling scenarios.

[0038] Figure 1A is a cross-sectional view along line A-A of Figure 1, demonstrating the sample interior construction of this embodiment. It will be understood that this shows one of many potential construction methods and component orientations, and is not shown in a limiting way but rather simply to demonstrate one means of production.

[0039] In Figure 2, an alternate view of the invention is presented, showcasing an athlete engaging with the device to demonstrate the vectors of movement during the transition between resting and tackling positions. This figure adds depth to the understanding of how the invention functions in a practical training scenario.

[0040] As shown in Figure 2, an athlete (26) is depicted in the act of tackling the device. The athlete engages with the outer surface (21) of the tackling element (18) and exerts force to push the device (1) over. This action initiates the transformation from the resting position to the in-motion tackling position. The vectors of movement (28) and (30) are indicated to illustrate the dynamic nature of the invention during the tackling process. Vector (28) represents the downward force applied by the athlete, causing the tackling element (18) to move into a surface-engaging position. Meanwhile, vector (30) represents the upward movement of one of the prior stand elements (12) as it transitions into an upright orientation to the surface and becomes the new tackling element.

[0041] Figure 2 visually reinforces the invention's capability to mimic the movement and resistance of a live opponent, providing athletes with a dynamic and interactive training experience that was previously unavailable with static tackling dummies.

[0042] Figure 3 demonstrates the movement of the device during the tackling motion shown in Figure 2. It will be understood again that this is shown simply for the purpose of demonstrating the flipping orientation of the device during tackling, and is not shown in any limiting way
