[0038] In accordance with some embodiments, the UE transceiver 230 may be referred to herein as an “uplink” transceiver 230 that includes a radio frequency (RF) transmitter and a RF receiver each comprising circuitry that is coupled to the antenna 232. A duplex switch (not shown) may alternatively couple the uplink transmitter or receiver to the uplink antenna in time duplex fashion. Similarly, in accordance with some embodiments, the BS transceiver 210 may be referred to herein as a “downlink” transceiver 210 that includes a RF transmitter and a RF receiver each comprising circuity that is coupled to the antenna 212. A downlink duplex switch may alternatively couple the downlink transmitter or receiver to the downlink antenna 212 in time duplex fashion. The operations of the two transceiver modules 210 and 230 may be coordinated in time such that the uplink receiver circuitry is coupled to the uplink antenna 232 for reception of transmissions over the wireless transmission link 250 at the same time that the downlink transmitter is coupled to the downlink antenna 212. Conversely, the operations of the two transceivers 210 and 230 may be coordinated in time such that the downlink receiver is coupled to the downlink antenna 212 for reception of transmissions over the wireless transmission link 250 at the same time that the uplink transmitter is coupled to the uplink antenna 232. In some embodiments, there is close time synchronization with a minimal guard time between changes in duplex direction.

[0039] The UE transceiver 230 and the base station transceiver 210 are configured to communicate via the wireless data communication link 250, and cooperate with a suitably configured RF antenna arrangement 212 / 232 that can support a particular wireless communication protocol and modulation scheme. In some illustrative embodiments, the UE transceiver 210 and the base station transceiver 210 are configured to support industry standards such as the Long Term Evolution (LTE) and emerging 5G standards, and the like. It is understood, however, that the present disclosure is not necessarily limited in application to a particular standard and associated protocols. Rather, the UE transceiver 230 and the base station transceiver 210 may be configured to support alternate, or additional, wireless data communication protocols, including future standards or variations thereof.

[0040] In accordance with various embodiments, the BS 202 may be an evolved node B (eNB) , a serving eNB, a target eNB, a femto station, or a pico station, for example. In some embodiments, the UE 204 may be embodied in various types of user devices such as a mobile phone, a smart phone, a personal digital assistant (PDA) , tablet, laptop computer, wearable computing device, etc. The processor modules 214 and 236 may be implemented, or realized, with a general purpose processor, a content addressable memory, a digital signal processor, an application specific integrated circuit, a field programmable gate array, any suitable programmable logic device, discrete gate or transistor logic, discrete hardware components, or any combination thereof, designed to perform the functions described herein. In this manner, a processor may be realized as a microprocessor, a controller, a microcontroller, a state machine, or the like. A processor may also be implemented as a combination of computing devices, e.g., a combination of a digital signal processor and a microprocessor, a plurality of microprocessors, one or multiple microprocessors in conjunction with a digital signal processor core, or any other such configuration.

[0041] Furthermore, the steps of a method or algorithm described in connection with the embodiments disclosed herein may be embodied directly in hardware, in firmware, in a software module executed by processor modules 214 and 236, respectively, or in any practical combination thereof. The memory modules 216 and 234 may be realized as RAM memory, flash memory, ROM memory, EPROM memory, EEPROM memory, registers, a hard disk, a removable disk, a CD-ROM, or any other form of storage medium known in the art. In this regard, memory modules 216 and 234 may be coupled to the processor modules 210 and 230, respectively, such that the processors modules 210 and 230 can read information from, and write information to, memory modules 216 and 234, respectively. The memory modules 216 and 234 may also be integrated into their respective processor modules 210 and 230. In some embodiments, the memory modules 216 and 234 may each include a cache memory for storing temporary variables or other intermediate information during execution of instructions to be executed by processor modules 210 and 230, respectively. Memory modules 216 and 234 may also each include non-volatile memory for storing instructions to be executed by the processor modules 210 and 230, respectively.

[0042] The network communication module 218 generally represents the hardware, software, firmware, processing logic, and / or other components of the base station 202 that enable bi-directional communication between base station transceiver 210 and other network components and communication nodes configured to communicate with the base station 202. For example, network communication module 218 may be configured to support internet or WiMAX traffic. In a typical deployment, without limitation, network communication  module 218 provides an 802.3 Ethernet interface such that base station transceiver 210 can communicate with a conventional Ethernet based computer network. In this manner, the network communication module 218 may include a physical interface for connection to the computer network (e.g., Mobile Switching Center (MSC) ) . The terms “configured for, ” “configured to” and conjugations thereof, as used herein with respect to a specified operation or function, refer to a device, component, circuit, structure, machine, signal, etc., that is physically constructed, programmed, formatted and / or arranged to perform the specified operation or function.

[0043] The Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) Model (referred to herein as, “open system interconnection model” ) is a conceptual and logical layout that defines network communication used by systems (e.g., wireless communication device, wireless communication node) open to interconnection and communication with other systems. The model is broken into seven subcomponents, or layers, each of which represents a conceptual collection of services provided to the layers above and below it. The OSI Model also defines a logical network and effectively describes computer packet transfer by using different layer protocols. The OSI Model may also be referred to as the seven-layer OSI Model or the seven-layer model. In some embodiments, a first layer may be a physical layer. In some embodiments, a second layer may be a Medium Access Control (MAC) layer. In some embodiments, a third layer may be a Radio Link Control (RLC) layer. In some embodiments, a fourth layer may be a Packet Data Convergence Protocol (PDCP) layer. In some embodiments, a fifth layer may be a Radio Resource Control (RRC) layer. In some embodiments, a sixth layer may be a Non-Access Stratum (NAS) layer or an Internet Protocol (IP) layer, and the seventh layer being the other layer.

[0044] Various example embodiments of the present solution are described below with reference to the accompanying figures to enable a person of ordinary skill in the art to make and use the present solution. As would be apparent to those of ordinary skill in the art, after reading the present disclosure, various changes or modifications to the examples described herein can be made without departing from the scope of the present solution. Thus, the present solution is not limited to the example embodiments and applications described and illustrated herein. Additionally, the specific order or hierarchy of steps in the methods disclosed herein are merely example approaches. Based upon design preferences, the specific order or hierarchy of steps of the disclosed methods or processes can be re-arranged while remaining within the scope of the present solution. Thus, those of ordinary skill in the art will understand that the methods and techniques disclosed herein present various steps or acts in a sample order, and the present solution is not limited to the specific order or hierarchy presented unless expressly stated otherwise.

[0045] 2. Systems and Methods for Performing Downlink Channel Coverage Enhancement

[0046] Non-terrestrial networks (NTN) have gained traction to provide connectivity in areas where terrestrial networks (TN) are unavailable or unreliable. However, a key challenge arises due to the large propagation loss inherent in these networks. In certain implementations, the loss may present a hurdle for accessing NTN with legacy downlink (DL) channels designed / configured for TN. As illustrated in FIG. 3, the transparent NTN implementation / arrangement separates the service link between the user equipment (UE) and satellite from the feeder link between the base station (BS) and satellite. In certain implementations, the feeder link can be common for all UEs within the same cell.

[0047] In New Radio (NR) , pdsch-AggregationFactor can be used to indicate a repetition factor. PDSCH AggregationFactor is a mechanism through which one DCI signaling can schedule multiple consecutive downlink slots for PDSCH transmission (s) . In certain implementations, the number of consecutive slots can be 2, 4, or 8. In certain implementations, repetitionNumber in PDSCH-TimeDomainResourceAllocation can be used to indicate a repetition factor for PDSCH. In certain implementations, the number of PDSCH transmission occasions for slot-based repetition can be 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 16. In certain implementations, where a UE is scheduled to receive a PDSCH transmission through DCI signaling, the time domain resource assignment field value, m, of the DCI signaling can provide a row index of m + 1 to an allocation table. The determination of the used resource allocation table can be defined / configured. In some implementations, the indexed row defines the slot offset K0, the start and length indicator SLIV, or the start symbol S and the allocation length L directly. Additionally, the indexed row can define the PDSCH transmission mapping type to be assumed / used during the PDSCH transmission reception. In certain implementations, when receiving PDSCH transmission scheduled by DCI signaling (e.g., format 1_1 or 1_2) in PDCCH transmission, if the UE is configured with pdsch-AggregationFactor in pdsch-config or sps-Config, the same symbol allocation can be applied across the pdsch-AggregationFactor consecutive slots. In certain implementations, the UE may expect that the TB is repeated within each symbol allocation among each of the pdsch-AggregationFactor consecutive slots and / or the PDSCH transmission is limited to a single transmission layer.

[0048] In certain implementations, as illustrated in FIG. 4, a UE can transmit a PRACH preamble with an RA-RNTI upon satisfying any applicable condition (s) for PRACH transmission. In certain implementations, a gNB can send a DCI signaling scrambled with an RA-RNTI value. The UE tries / attempts to detect a PDCCH transmission (DCI) with the corresponding RA-RNTI within the RAR-Window period. After the UE successfully decodes the PDCCH transmission, the UE decodes the PDSCH transmission, carrying RAR (random access response) data. After decoding the RAR, the UE checks / determines if the RAPID in the RAR matches the RAPID assigned to the UE. In certain implementations, the UE can transmit Msg3 (PUSCH transmission) on the same serving cell to which it sent / transmitted / provided PRACH. In certain implementations, the UE can monitor and / or decode PDCCH transmission with TC-RNTI (temporary cell radio network temporary identifier) . In some implementations, where the PDCCH transmission is successfully decoded, the UE can decode the PDSCH transmission carrying the MAC CE and / or set the C-RNTI (cell radio network temporary identifier) to TC-RNTI. In certain implementations, once / after the UE successfully decodes Msg4 (Contention Resolution) , the UE can send / transmit / provide HARQ ACK for the data carried by the PDSCH transmission (e.g., carrying Msg4) . In certain implementations, where UE resumes or re-establishes an RRC signaling connection and / or the network is not able to retrieve or verify the UE context, the UE can receive RRCSetup and respond with RRCSetupComplete (Msg5) .

[0049] In certain implementations, as illustrated in FIG. 5, the RACH procedure can simplify the original (e.g., a four-step) random-access process / mechanism by merging / combining the uplink channel information from Msg1 and / or Msg3 into a message (e.g., MsgA) , which is sent / transmitted / provided by the UE to the network. In certain implementations, the downlink channel information from Msg2 and / or Msg4 can be combined into a message (e.g., MsgB) , which is then sent / transmitted / provided by the network to the UE. As a result, the entire random-access process can be completed in two steps, indicating at least one interaction between  the network and the UE. In certain implementations, the two-step random-access mechanism can merge the preamble (e.g., Msg1 / PRACH) and schedule transmission (e.g., Msg3 / PUSCH transmission) into MsgA and / or combine the Random-Access Response (Msg2) with the Contention Resolution message (Msg4) into MsgB.

[0050] In certain implementations, PDCCH / PDSCH transmission enhancement may be applicable to all PDCCH / PDSCH transmission when the dedicated resource for PDCCH / PDSCH transmission is not configured. In some implementations, Msg1 can include or correspond to at least one of a PRACH transmission or a preamble transmission. In some implementations, Msg2 can include or be a RAR scheduled by a DCI. In some implementations, Msg3 can include or be a message transmitted / sent on an uplink shared channel (UL-SCH) , including a cell radio network temporary identifier (C-RNTI) , media access control control element (MAC CE) , and / or common control channel (CCCH) service date unit (SDU) , from the upper layer, and / or associated with a UE contention resolution identity, as part of a random-access procedure / mechanism. In some implementations, Msg4 can include or be a contention resolution message, which can be scheduled by a DCI. In some implementations, Msg5 can include or correspond to a PUSCH transmission scheduled by DCI signaling and / or higher layer signaling, and / or include / incorporate specific information, such as RRCSetupComplete signaling, RRCResumeComplete signaling, or other types of signaling.

[0051] In certain embodiments, the UE can report the repetition request / capability for PDSCH transmission (e.g., Msg2, Msg4, or other PDSCH transmissions when dedicated resources are not configured) repetition via a specific resource (repetition request / report indication) . In certain implementations, where dedicated resources are not configured, the PDSCH transmission can be the re-transmission of Msg4. In certain implementations, the repetition request or capability report for Msg4 or other PDSCH transmissions when dedicated resources are not configured can be in the same signaling as a repetition request or capability report for Msg2 (e.g., where the repetition request / capability for PDSCH transmission (Msg2) repetition is reported via preamble or RO) , or the repetition request / capability report for other PDSCH transmissions before dedicated resource is configured can be in the same signaling as a repetition request or capability report for Msg4 (e.g., where the repetition request / capability for PDSCH transmission (Msg4) repetition is reported via Msg3 signaling) , or the repetition request or capability report for Msg2, Msg4, or other PDSCH transmissions before a dedicated resource is configured can be indicated respectively / separately via one or more methods / configurations / implementations. In certain implementations, the signaling of a request or capability report for PDSCH repetition (e.g., repetition or repeated transmissions of PDSCH transmission) may consider at least one of the following methods:

[0052] Method-1: Specific Preamble

[0053] ● A first segment of preamble resource used for performing PRACH repetition (e.g., repetition of PRACH transmission) can be used for a repetition request or capability report for PDSCH repetition.

[0054] ● A second segment of preamble resource used for requesting PUSCH transmission (e.g., Msg3) repetition can be used for the repetition request or capability report for PDSCH repetition.

[0055] ● Further segmentation of the preamble resource and / or a specific preamble to specify a new preamble resource (e.g., a third segment of preamble resource) that can be used for the repetition request or capability report for PDSCH repetition.

[0056] Method-2: Specific RO Resource

[0057] ● A segment of the RO resources used for performing PRACH repetition can be used for a repetition request or capability report for PDSCH repetition.

[0058] ● Further segmentation of the RO resources to specify a specific new segment of RO resources that can be used for the repetition request or capability report for PDSCH repetition.

[0059] Method-3: Signaling in Msg3

[0060] ● The signaling used for performing PUCCH repetition for Msg4 HARQ-ACK can be used for a repetition request or capability report for PDSCH repetition.

[0061] ● Higher layer signaling in Msg3 (PUSCH transmission) for the PDSCH repetition request or capability report may include:

[0062] LCID codepoints.

[0063] Reserved bits in the MAC subheader.

[0064] ● Physical layer signaling in Msg3 (PUSCH transmission) for the PDSCH repetition request or capability report may include:

[0065] Specific DMRS ports.

[0067] The CRC bits can include 1 CRC bit other than bits scrambled by RA-RNTI, TC-RNTI, or C-RNTI, used for the PDSCH repetition request or capability report.

[0068] Method-4: Field in PUCCH transmission for Msg4 HARQ-ACK

[0069] ● PUCCH transmission signal characteristics may include:

[0070] Specific PUCCH transmission DMRS pattern reused for a PDSCH repetition request or capability report.

[0071] ● PUCCH transmission content may include:

[0072] Existing bits except for HARQ-ACK feedback that can be reused for the PDSCH repetition request or capability report.

[0073] In certain implementations, for sending the repetition request or capability report, at least one of the following conditions may be considered: the measured RSRP of the downlink signal is lower than the configured threshold; a measured signal state (RSRP, channel gain, etc. ) of a downlink signal is lower than a second configured threshold ; at least one repetition number or offset is configured; at least more repetition numbers or offsets are configured; or a high layer signaling indicates a report repetition request or capability.

[0074] In certain embodiments, a dynamic indication for the repetition number of PDSCH transmission can be carried out in the DCI signaling for scheduling of the PDSCH transmission through reuse of an existing  field, a new field, or CRC scrambling bits. In certain implementations, the DCI signaling can schedule DL transmissions (e.g., DCI signaling for scheduling Msg2 (e.g., RAR) , DCI signaling for scheduling Msg4 (e.g., contention resolution message) , or other DCI signaling for scheduling PDSCH transmission) before dedicated PDCCH / PDSCH transmission resources are configured. In certain implementations, the CRC of DCI signaling can be scrambled with RA-RNTI, C-RNTI, or TC-RNTI, among others. In certain implementations, the network can send / transmit DCI signaling to schedule PDSCH transmission and / or indicate the repetition number of the PDSCH transmission via at least one of the following signaling / methods:

[0075] Method-1: Reusing an Existing Bit Field in DCI Signaling

[0076] ● The existing field (assuming / considering 4 repetition numbers, e.g., {1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th} ) can be at least one of the following:

[0077] MCS field indicating the repetition number may include:

[0078] 2 bits in the MCS field can be the highest two bits or the lowest two bits.

[0079] PUCCH resource indicator field indicating the repetition number may include:

[0080] 4 states indicated in PUCCH resource indicator field.

[0081] HARQ process number field indicating the repetition number may include:

[0082] 4 states indicated in the HARQ process number field.

[0083] PDSCH-to-HARQ_feedback timing indicator field indicating the repetition number may include:

[0084] 4 states indicated in the PDSCH-to-HARQ_feedback timing indicator field.

[0085] Reserved bits field indicating the repetition number may include:

[0086] 2 bits in the reserved bits field.

[0087] Method-2: New Defined Field in DCI Signaling Indicating the Repetition Number

[0088] ● The defined field (assuming 4 repetition numbers, e.g., {1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th} ) can be / include 2 bits.

[0089] Method-3: CRC Scrambling of DCI Signaling

[0090] ● The CRC bits can include / be 2 CRC bits, different from those scrambled by RA-RNTI, TC-RNTI, or C-RNTI, to indicate the repetition number for PDSCH repetition. This may include:

[0091] Scrambling the first two MSB bits of the CRC with information content regarding the repetition number of PDSCH transmission may enable / allow a UE to retrieve such information via descrambling in the same way as it would for the RA-RNTI, TC-RNTI, or C-RNTI.

[0092] Referring now to FIG. 6, illustrated is a mechanism / procedure for scrambling the CRC with information on the repetition number of PDSCH transmission (e.g., using the first 2 scrambling bits to represent the 4 states) . For dynamic indication of the repetition number, the mapping rules for 2 bits can be defined as follows: the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and / or 4th configured repetition numbers are mapped to “00” , “01” , “10” , and / or “11”  of the 2-bit field, respectively / separately. In certain implementations, where the 3rd and / or 4th repetition numbers are not configured, the corresponding codepoint (s) (e.g., “10” and / or “11” ) are not used / configured, as shown in Table 1 below. In certain implementations, the mapping rules for 4 states can be defined as follows: the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and / or 4th configured repetition numbers are mapped to “state 1” , “state 2” , “state 3” , and / or “state 4” of the 4 states indicated in PUCCH resource indicator field, the HARQ process number field, and / or the PDSCH-to-HARQ_feedback timing indicator field, respectively / separately. In certain implementations, where the 3rd and / or 4th repetition numbers are not configured, the corresponding codepoint (s) (e.g., “10” and / or “11” ) are not used / configured / defined, as shown in Table 2 below.

[0093] Table 1: 2-bit field for MCS / reserved / newly defined / CRC bits when multiple repetition numbers are configured.

[0094] Table 2: 4 states in HARQ process number field / PUCCH resource indicator field / PDSCH-to-HARQ_feedback timing indicator field when multiple repetition numbers are configured.

[0095] In certain implementations, the repetition number of PDSCH transmission can be / equal the repetition number of PDCCH transmission (e.g., DCI) scheduling the PDSCH transmission, adjusted (e.g., plus or minus) by an offset. In certain implementations, the network can send / transmit DCI signaling to schedule the PDSCH transmission and indicate the offset via at least one of the methods described herein. Additionally, the method for dynamically indicating the repetition number, as defined above, can be used to indicate / specify the specific / particular offset.

[0096] For dynamic indication of the offsets, the mapping rules for 2 bits can be defined as follows: the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th configured offsets are mapped to “00” , “01” , “10” , and / or “11” of the 2-bit field, respectively / separately. In certain implementations, where the 3rd and / or the 4th offsets are not configured, the corresponding codepoint (s) (i.e., “10” and / or “11” ) are not used / configured, as shown in Table 3 below. In certain implementations, the mapping rules for 4 states can be defined as follows: the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and / or 4th configured offsets are mapped to “state 1” , “state 2” , “state 3” , and / or “state 4” of the 4 states indicated in PUCCH resource indicator field, the HARQ process number field, and / or the PDSCH-to-HARQ_feedback timing indicator field, respectively. In certain implementations, where the 3rd and / or the 4th offsets are not configured, the corresponding codepoint (s) (i.e., “10” and / or “11” ) are not used / configured, as shown in Table 4 below.

[0097] Table 3: 2-bit field for MCS / reserved / newly defined / CRC bits when multiple offsets are configured.

[0098] Table 4: 4 states in HARQ process number field / PUCCH resource indicator field / PDSCH-to-HARQ_feedback timing indicator field when multiple offsets are configured.

[0099] In certain implementations, the repetition number of PDSCH transmission can be tabulated (via mappings in a table) with the repetition number of DCI, e.g., 2 for PDCCH transmission and / or 2+2 for PDSCH transmission, or 4 for PDCCH transmission and / or 4+4 for PDSCH transmission, etc. In some implementations, the repetition number for Msg2, Msg4, or other PDSCH transmissions, when dedicated resources are not configured, can be indicated respectively / separately via at least one of the methods defined above. In some implementations, the repetition number of the PDSCH transmission can be the same as the repetition number of DCI signaling (e.g., DCI signaling for scheduling RAR, Msg4) that schedules the PDSCH transmission. In certain implementations, the repetition number for Msg4 or other PDSCH transmission, when dedicated resources are not configured, can be the same as that for Msg2 (e.g., the repetition number for PDSCH transmission (Msg2) ) or Msg3. In some implementations, the repetition number for Msg4 or other PDSCH transmissions, when dedicated resources are not configured, can be the repetition number of Msg2 (e.g., the repetition number for PDSCH transmission (Msg2) ) or Msg3 adjusted by (plus or minus) an offset. In some implementations, the repetition number for re-transmission of Msg4 or other PDSCH transmissions, when dedicated resources are not configured, can be the repetition number of Msg2 (e.g., the repetition number for PDSCH transmission (Msg2) ) , Msg3, or Msg4 adjusted by (plus or minus) an offset.

[0100] In certain implementations, the repetition number for other PDSCH transmission, when dedicated resources are not configured, can be the same as that for Msg4 (e.g., the repetition number for PDSCH transmission (Msg4) ) . In certain implementations, the repetition number or repetition offset of the PDSCH transmission can be indicated together with the repetition request or capability report. The signaling of repetition number or repetition offset can be the signaling, as defined herein. For example, the preamble or RO can be associated with the number of repetitions or offsets. In some implementations, the field in Msg3 can be used to indicate the number of repetitions or offsets. In certain implementations, specific DMRS ports or DMRS patterns can be associated with the number of repetitions or offsets.

[0101] In certain implementations, the conditions / triggers for a base station (BS) (e.g., a wireless communication node) to send the dynamic indication of repetition number or offset may include at least one of  the following: the measured RSRP of the UL signal is lower than the defined threshold; the measured RSRP of the UL signal is higher than the defined threshold; at least one repetition number is configured; at least more repetition numbers are configured; or the UE has indicated capability / request of PDSCH transmission repetition.

[0102] In certain implementations, the conditions / triggers for a UE to interpret the dynamic indication of repetition number or offset may include at least one of the following: the measured RSRP of the downlink signal is lower than the configured threshold; at least one repetition number or offset is configured; at least more repetition numbers or offsets are configured; the UE has indicated the capability / request of PDSCH transmission repetition; or the UE has the capability / request of PDSCH transmission repetition.

[0103] In certain implementations, a dynamic indication for enabling / disabling repetition can be indicated in the DCI signaling through the reuse of an existing field, a new field, or CRC scrambling bits. The DCI signaling can be used for scheduling DL / UL transmission (e.g., DCI signaling for scheduling RAR, Msg4, Msg5, or other DCI scheduling PDSCH transmission) before a dedicated PDCCH / PDSCH transmission resource is configured. In certain implementations, the CRC of DCI signaling can be scrambled with RA-RNTI, C-RNTI, or TC-RNTI, among others. In certain implementations, the network can send / transmit DCI signaling to schedule PDSCH transmission and / or indicate to enable / disable the repetition of PDSCH transmission via at least one of the methods 1, 2, or 3, as defined above. In certain implementations, the method can be similar / identical to the dynamic indication of the repetition number, with the distinction / difference being that the dynamic enabling / disabling indication for repetition occupies 1 bit or 2 states.

[0104] In certain implementations, for the dynamic enabling / disabling indication for repetition, the mapping rules for 1 bit can be defined as follows: the enabling / disabling indication are mapped to “0” and / or “1” of the 1 bit-field, respectively / separately, such as shown in Table 5 below. In certain implementations, the mapping rules for 2 states can be defined as follows: the enabling / disabling indication are mapped to “state 1” and / or “state 2” of the 2 states indicated in PUCCH resource indicator field, the HARQ process number field, the PDSCH-to-HARQ_feedback timing indicator field, respectively / separately, as shown in Table 6 below.

[0105] Table 5: 1-bit field for MCS / reserved / newly defined / CRC bits when one repetition number or offset is configured.

[0106] Table 6: 2 states in HARQ process number field / PUCCH resource indicator

[0107] field / PDSCH-to-HARQ_feedback timing indicator field when one repetition number or offset is configured.

[0108] In certain implementations, the conditions / triggers sent / transmitted to the dynamic enabling / disabling indication of repetition may include at least one of the following: the measured RSRP of the UL signal is lower than the configured threshold; the measured RSRP of the UL signal is higher than the defined  threshold; at least one repetition number or offset is configured; at least more repetition numbers or offsets are configured; or the UE has indicated capability / request of PDSCH repetition.

[0109] In certain implementations, the conditions / triggers to interpret the dynamic enabling / disabling indication of repetition may include at least one of the following: the measured RSRP of the downlink signal is lower than the configured threshold; at least one repetition number or offset is configured; at least more repetition numbers or offsets are configured; the UE has indicated capability / request of PDSCH repetition; or the UE has the capability / request of PDSCH repetition.

[0110] In certain implementations, where the repetition number list {1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th} includes repetition number 1, if the repetition number indicated by the network is 1, this may mean / indicate that the corresponding PDSCH transmission is transmitted once without repeating the transmission. In some implementations, this may be equivalent to disabling the repetition indication. In certain implementations, where the repetition number indicated by the network is not 1, this may mean / indicate that the corresponding PDSCH transmission is repeated transmission. In some implementations, this may be equivalent to enabling the repetition indication.

[0111] In certain embodiments, for the procedure of PDSCH repetition, the method for the PDSCH repetition procedure / mechanism, as defined herein, can be used in any combination to complete the PDSCH repetition process. In certain implementations, the PDSCH repetition can be Msg2 (e.g., RAR) , Msg4 (e.g., contention resolution message) , or other PDSCH transmission when dedicated resources are not configured. In this regard, the following cases may be considered:

[0112] Case-1: If a threshold is configured, the UE may measure the DL signal strength. In certain implementations, where the measured signal strength is lower than the configured threshold, the UE can report the repetition request / capability for PDSCH repetition via a specific resource (request / report indication) as defined herein. In some implementations, whether the PDSCH transmission is repeated depends on the network configuration.

[0113] In certain implementations, where one repetition number or offset is configured via high layer signaling:

[0114] OP1: The network receives the UL signal and / or measures the UL signal strength. In certain implementations, where the UL signal strength is lower than a pre-defined threshold, the network sends / transmits DCI signaling to schedule PDSCH transmission and / or indicate that the repetition of PDSCH transmission is enabled / allowed via a dynamic enabling / disabling indication of DCI signaling as defined herein. The PDSCH transmission is repeated across each resource allocation for each specified repetitionNumber (e.g., repetition number, or the repetition number of DCI signaling for scheduling the PDSCH transmission adjusted (e.g., plus or minus) by the offset) across consecutive slots.

[0115] ● In certain implementations, where the UE has indicated the capability / request for PDSCH repetition, the UE can receive the PDSCH transmission according to the dynamic enabling / disabling indication (e.g., enabling) and / or the configured repetition number or offset.

[0116] ● In certain implementations, where the UE has not indicated the capability / request for  PDSCH repetition, the UE can receive the PDSCH transmission.

[0117] OP2: The network receives the UL signal based on the request / report indication, and / or upon receiving the UL signal, the network sends DCI signaling to schedule PDSCH transmission and perform the repetition of PDSCH transmission across each resource allocation for each specified repetitionNumber (e.g., the repetition number, or the repetition number of DCI signaling for scheduling the PDSCH transmission adjusted (e.g., plus or minus) by the offset) across consecutive slots.

[0118] ● In certain implementations, where the UE has indicated the capability / request for PDSCH repetition, the UE can receive the PDSCH transmission according to the configured repetition number or offset.

[0119] ● In certain implementations, where the UE has not indicated the capability / request for PDSCH repetition, the UE can receive the PDSCH transmission.

[0120] OP3: The network receives the UL signal and / or measures the UL signal strength. In certain implementations, where the UL signal strength is higher than a pre-defined threshold, the network sends DCI signaling to schedule PDSCH transmission and / or indicate that the repetition of PDSCH transmission is disabled via the dynamic enabling / disabling indication as defined herein. In some implementations, the PDSCH transmission may be transmitted once.

[0121] ● In certain implementations, where the UE has indicated the capability / request for PDSCH repetition, the UE can receive the PDSCH transmission according to the dynamic enabling / disabling indication (e.g., disabling) and / or the configured repetition number or offset.

[0122] ● In certain implementations, where the UE has not indicated the capability / request for PDSCH repetition, the UE can receive the PDSCH transmission.

[0123] In certain implementations, where multiple repetition numbers or offsets are configured via high layer signaling:

[0124] OP4: The network receives the UL signal and measures the UL signal strength. In certain implementations, where the UL signal strength is lower than a pre-defined threshold, the network sends the DCI signaling to schedule PDSCH transmission and / or indicate the specific repetition number or offset of PDSCH transmission via a dynamic indication of DCI signaling as defined herein. The PDSCH transmission is repeated across each resource allocation for each specified / defined / configured repetitionNumber (e.g., repetition number, or the repetition number of DCI signaling for scheduling the PDSCH transmission adjusted (e.g., plus or minus) by the offset) across consecutive slots.

[0125] ● In certain implementations, where the UE has indicated the capability / request for PDSCH transmission repetition, the UE can receive the PDSCH transmission according to the dynamic indication.

[0126] ● In certain implementations, where the UE has not indicated the capability / request for PDSCH transmission repetition, the UE can receive the PDSCH transmission.

[0127] OP5: The network receives the UL signal based on the request / report indication, and / or upon receiving the UL signal, the network sends the DCI signaling to schedule PDSCH transmission and / or indicates the specific repetition number or offset of PDSCH transmission via the dynamic indication of DCI signaling as defined herein. The PDSCH transmission is repeated across each resource allocation for each specified repetitionNumber (e.g., repetition number, or the repetition number of DCI signaling for scheduling the PDSCH transmission adjusted (e.g., plus or minus) by the offset) across consecutive slots.

[0128] ● In certain implementations, where the UE has indicated the capability / request for PDSCH repetition, the UE can receive the PDSCH transmission according to the dynamic indication.

[0129] ● In certain implementations, where the UE has not indicated the capability / request for PDSCH repetition, the UE can receive the PDSCH transmission.

[0130] OP6: The network receives the UL signal and measures the UL signal strength. In certain implementations, where the UL signal strength is higher than a pre-defined threshold, the network sends the DCI signaling to schedule the PDSCH transmission and / or indicate that the repetition of PDSCH transmission is disabled via dynamic enabling / disabling indication of DCI signaling as defined herein. In certain implementations, the PDSCH transmission may be transmitted once.

[0131] ● In certain implementations, where the UE has indicated the capability / request for PDSCH repetition, the UE can receive the PDSCH according to the dynamic enabling / disabling indication (e.g., disabling) and / or the configured repetition number or offset.

[0132] ● In certain implementations, where the UE has not indicated the capability / request for PDSCH repetition, the UE can receive the PDSCH transmission.

[0133] In certain implementations, where a repetition number is not configured, the DCI signaling can be used to schedule the PDSCH transmission, and / or the PDSCH transmission can obey / follow legacy transmission. In certain implementations, the UE can receive the PDSCH transmission.

[0173] ● In certain implementations, where the UE has the capability / request for the PDSCH repetition, the UE can receive the PDSCH transmission.

[0174] OP18: The network receives the UL signal and / or measures the UL signal strength. In certain implementations, where the UL signal strength is higher than a pre-defined threshold, the network sends / transmits the DCI signaling to schedule the PDSCH transmission and / or indicate that the repetition of PDSCH transmission is disabled via a dynamic enabling / disabling indication of the DCI signaling as defined herein. In certain implementations, the PDSCH transmission may be transmitted once.

[0176] ● In certain implementations, where the UE lacks (or is without) the capability / request for the PDSCH repetition, the UE can receive the PDSCH transmission.

[0177] In certain implementations, where a repetition number is not configured, the DCI signaling can be used to schedule the PDSCH transmission, and / or the PDSCH transmission can obey / follow the legacy transmission. In certain implementations, the UE can receive the PDSCH transmission.

[0178] In certain implementations, transport block (TB) scaling may be used for PDSCH enhancement, e.g., for msg4 or other PDSCH transmissions when dedicated resources are not configured. In current NR (new radio) , TB scaling has been supported, where the wireless communication device receives a TB scaling factor (e.g., smaller than or equal to 1) from the wireless communication node. During the determination of TB size (TBS) , the scaling factor is applied in the calculation of unquantized intermediate variable Ninfo. Due to the scaling factor, a smaller Ninfo is obtained with same MCS configuration and / or the same number of resource elements. As a result, a lower actual coding rate is obtained, which improves the PDSCH coverage performance. However, since the TB scaling factor can only be indicated via a PDCCH with DCI format 1_0 with CRC scrambled by P-RNTI, RA-RNTI, or MsgB-RNTI, the TB scaling is only supported for msg2, msgB, and / or paging PDSCH. That is, for msg4 and some other PDSCH transmissions, when dedicated resources are not configured, TB scaling is not supported. In order to support TB scaling for msg4 or other PDSCH transmissions when dedicated resources are not configured, enhancement is needed. At least one of the features for PDSCH repetition (e.g., signaling, configuration, capability report, or procedure illustrated above) can be used for TB scaling. The difference is that the repetition is changed to TB scaling. For example, the indication of the repetition factor is changed to the TB scaling factor. The capability report for PDSCH repetition is changed to the capability report of the TB scaling.

[0179] Referring now to FIG. 7, which illustrates a flow diagram of a method 700 for performing downlink channel coverage enhancement. The method 700 may be implemented using any of the components and devices detailed herein in conjunction with FIGS. 1–6. In an overview, the method 700 may include a wireless communication device determining a configuration for reception of a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) transmission (STEP 702) . The method may include the wireless communication device receiving the PDSCH transmission according to the determined configuration from a wireless communication node (STEP 704) . The method may include a wireless communication node sending a PDSCH transmission according to a configuration to a wireless communication device (STEP 706) .

[0189] In certain configurations, the wireless communication device can determine to determine (e.g., interpret) at least one of the following: the first indication, the second indication, and / or the third indication according to the defined field or the at least one CRC bit when a condition is satisfied. In certain implementations, the condition may include at least one of the following: a measured reference signal received power (RSRP) of a downlink signal is lower than a configured threshold; a measured signal state (e.g., RSRP, channel gain, etc. ) of a downlink signal is lower than a second configured threshold; at least one repetition number or offset is configured; a plurality of repetition numbers or offsets are configured; the wireless communication device has sent at least one of the request for the PDSCH repetition or the capability report for the PDSCH repetition; and / or the wireless communication device is capable of the PDSCH repetition but may not have sent at least one of the request for the PDSCH repetition or the capability report for the PDSCH repetition.

[0190] In certain configurations, the specific repetition number can be mapped to a number of repetitions for the PDSCH transmission. In some implementations, the specific offset can be mapped to an offset for calculating the number of repetitions for the PDSCH transmission. In some implementations, the third indication can be mapped to enabled or disabled repetitions for the PDSCH transmission. In certain configurations, a  specific value or state in the first indication can be mapped to the specific repetition number for the PDSCH transmission. In some implementations, a specific value or state in the second indication is mapped to the specific offset for calculating the number of repetitions for the PDSCH transmission. In some implementations, a specific value or state in the third indication is mapped to enabled or disabled repetitions for the PDSCH transmission. In certain configurations, the wireless communication device can determine that the PDSCH repetition is disabled responsive to the repetition number having a first defined value. In certain implementations, the wireless communication device can determine that the PDSCH repetition is enabled responsive to the repetition number having a second defined value.

[0191] At least one aspect is directed to a system, method, apparatus, or a computer-readable medium. In certain configurations, a wireless communication node (e.g., BS, gNB) can send / transmit / provide a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) transmission according to a configuration to a wireless communication device (STEP 706) . In some implementations, the configuration can be determined for the PDSCH transmission.

[0192] While various embodiments / implementations of the present solution have been described above, it should be understood that they have been presented by way of example only, and not by way of limitation. Likewise, the various diagrams may depict an example architecture or configuration, which are provided to enable persons of ordinary skill in the art to understand example features and functions of the present solution. Such persons would understand, however, that the solution is not restricted to the illustrated example architectures or configurations but can be implemented using a variety of alternative architectures and configurations. Additionally, as would be understood by persons of ordinary skill in the art, one or multiple features of one embodiment / implementation can be combined with one or multiple features of another embodiment / implementation described herein. Thus, the breadth and scope of the present disclosure should not be limited by any of the above-described illustrative embodiments.

[0193] It is also understood that any reference to an element herein using a designation such as “first, ” “second, ” and so forth does not generally limit the quantity or order of those elements. Rather, these designations can be used herein as a convenient means of distinguishing between two or more elements or instances of an element. Thus, a reference to first and second elements does not mean that only two elements can be employed, or that the first element must precede the second element in some manner.

[0194] Additionally, a person having ordinary skill in the art would understand that information and signals can be represented using any of a variety of different technologies and techniques. For example, data, instructions, commands, information, signals, bits, and symbols, which may be referenced in the above description, can be represented by voltages, currents, electromagnetic waves, magnetic fields or particles, optical fields or particles, or any combination thereof.

[0195] A person of ordinary skill in the art would further appreciate that any of the various illustrative logical blocks, modules, processors, means, circuits, methods and functions described in connection with the aspects disclosed herein can be implemented by electronic hardware (e.g., a digital implementation, an analog implementation, or a combination of the two) , firmware, various forms of program or design code incorporating instructions (which can be referred to herein, for convenience, as “software” or a “software module) , or any combination of these techniques. To clearly illustrate this interchangeability of hardware, firmware and software,  various illustrative components, blocks, modules, circuits, and steps have been described above generally in terms of their functionality. Whether such functionality is implemented as hardware, firmware or software, or a combination of these techniques, depends upon the particular application and design constraints imposed on the overall system. Skilled artisans can implement the described functionality in various ways for each particular application, but such implementation decisions do not cause a departure from the scope of the present disclosure.

[0196] Furthermore, a person of ordinary skill in the art would understand that various illustrative logical blocks, modules, devices, components, and circuits described herein can be implemented within or performed by an integrated circuit (IC) that can include a general purpose processor, a digital signal processor (DSP) , an application specific integrated circuit (ASIC) , a field programmable gate array (FPGA) or other programmable logic device, or any combination thereof. The logical blocks, modules, and circuits can further include antennas and / or transceivers to communicate with various components within the network or within the device. A general purpose processor can be a microprocessor, but in the alternative, the processor can be any conventional processor, controller, or state machine. A processor can also be implemented as a combination of computing devices, e.g., a combination of a DSP and a microprocessor, a plurality of microprocessors, one or multiple microprocessors in conjunction with a DSP core, or any other suitable configuration to perform the functions described herein.

[0197] If implemented in software, the functions can be stored as one or multiple instructions or code on a computer-readable medium. Thus, the steps of a method or algorithm disclosed herein can be implemented as software stored on a computer-readable medium. Computer-readable media includes both computer storage media and communication media including any medium that can be enabled to transfer a computer program or code from one place to another. A storage media can be any available media that can be accessed by a computer. By way of example, and not limitation, such computer-readable media can include RAM, ROM, EEPROM, CD-ROM or other optical disk storage, magnetic disk storage or other magnetic storage devices, or any other medium that can be used to store desired program code in the form of instructions or data structures and that can be accessed by a computer.

[0198] In this document, the term “module” as used herein, refers to software, firmware, hardware, and any combination of these elements for performing the associated functions described herein. Additionally, for purpose of discussion, the various modules are described as discrete modules; however, as would be apparent to one of ordinary skill in the art, two or more modules may be combined to form a single module that performs the associated functions according to embodiments of the present solution.

[0199] Additionally, memory or other storage, as well as communication components, may be employed in embodiments of the present solution. It will be appreciated that, for clarity purposes, the above description has described embodiments of the present solution with reference to different functional units and processors. However, it will be apparent that any suitable distribution of functionality between different functional units, processing logic elements or domains may be used without detracting from the present solution. For example, functionality illustrated to be performed by separate processing logic elements, or controllers, may be performed by the same processing logic element, or controller. Hence, references to specific functional units are only  references to a suitable means for providing the described functionality, rather than indicative of a strict logical or physical structure or organization.

[0200] Various modifications to the embodiments described in this disclosure will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art, and the general principles defined herein can be applied to other embodiments without departing from the scope of this disclosure. Thus, the disclosure is not intended to be limited to the embodiments shown herein but is to be accorded the widest scope consistent with the novel features and principles disclosed herein, as recited in the claims below.
