Abstract

Various aspects of the present disclosure relate to specular reflection detection and measurement. An apparatus, such as a network sensing node, receives, from a sensing management configuration entity (SensMF), a configuration for the reception and measurement of a sensing signal. The network sensing node receives the sensing signal, and detects one or more reflected signal paths of the sensing signal, based on the configuration for the reception of the sensing signal. The network sensing node identifies one or more path types of the one or more reflected signal paths as being one or more of a specular reflection, a line-of-sight (LOS), or having a first order reflection propagation condition based on the configuration for the measurement of the sensing signal. The network sensing node transmits, to the SensMF, a report of the detected one or more reflected signal paths and the identified one or more path types.

[0023] In a wireless communications system, a UE and a NE (e.g., a base station, gNB) may support wireless communication (e.g., reception and / or transmission of wireless communication) using time-frequency resources. The devices can leverage sensing signals to gather information for detection of reflected signal paths of a sensing signal, identification of path types of the reflected signal paths, and reporting of the detected reflected signal paths and the identified path types. With reference to channel modeling for integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) , which is innovated to facilitate an evaluation framework for integrated wireless communication and sensing functionalities, and for achievable sensing key performance indicators (KPIs) . As such, sensing and detecting a sensing target includes measurement and identification of impacted, reflected signals by the sensing target (e.g., an object) and thereby inference of the physical conditions associated with the sensing target, such as presence, position, rotation, velocity, etc.

[0024] In a conventional L1 measurement and reporting framework, a signal path of any property may be detected and reported. Nevertheless, the current L1 measurement and reporting  framework does not support distinctions between signal path type measurement and reporting of a specular reflection and a non-specular reflection of a signal path, in terms of detection, measurement, and reporting of signal path reflection. Accordingly, aspects of the techniques described herein provide that the L1 measurement framework supports identification, indication, and enhanced signal path measurements associated with the specular reflection of a signal path at a radio measurement node (e.g., a sensing Rx node) and / or by a SensMF. In one or more implementations, the SensMF may also be referred to as a sensing management configuration entity (SMCE) , or as a sensing management configuration function (SMCF) . The SensMF can be implemented as a network entity and / or as a function, and SensMF may include one or more of a core network entity or function, a RAN management entity or function, a function implemented in a UE or other network device, or as a distributed function across multiple entities or devices.

[0025] As described herein, a SensMF implemented as a configuration entity (e.g., as an entity or function of a TRP, an NE, or a core network (CN) entity) may transmit one or more configuration parameters to a network sensing node that is implemented as a measurement entity (e.g., a UE, a sensing Rx node, a sensing Tx node, or other type of network sensing node) for detecting reflected signal paths of a sensing signal. The measurement entity may be implemented at a device that receives reference signals, referred to as a receiving device, and / or a device that transmits reference signals, referred to as a transmitting device. The network sensing node receives the reference signals and uses the configuration parameters to detect reflected signal paths and identify path types of the reflected signal paths as being one or more of a specular reflection, a LOS, or having a first order reflection propagation condition based on the configuration for the measurement of a sensing signal. The network sensing node transmits, to the SensMF, a report of the detected reflected signal paths and the identified path types.

[0026] Reference is made herein to communicating data or information, such as signaling communication resources and / or communications that are transmitted or received between devices. It is to be appreciated that other terms may be used interchangeably with communicating, such as signaling, transmitting, receiving, outputting, forwarding, retrieving, obtaining, and so forth. Aspects of the present disclosure are described in the context of a wireless communications system.

[0027] Figure 1 illustrates an example of a wireless communications system 100 in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. The wireless communications system 100 may include one or more NEs 102, one or more UEs 104, and a core network (CN) 106. The  wireless communications system 100 may support various radio access technologies. In some implementations, the wireless communications system 100 may be a 4G network, such as an LTE network or an LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) network. In some other implementations, the wireless communications system 100 may be a NR network, such as a 5G network, a 5G-Advanced (5G-A) network, or a 5G ultrawideband (5G-UWB) network. In other implementations, the wireless communications system 100 may be a combination of a 4G network and a 5G network, or other suitable radio access technology including Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.11 (Wi-Fi) , IEEE 802.16 (WiMAX) , IEEE 802.20. The wireless communications system 100 may support radio access technologies beyond 5G, for example, 6G. Additionally, the wireless communications system 100 may support technologies, such as time division multiple access (TDMA) , frequency division multiple access (FDMA) , or code division multiple access (CDMA) , etc.

[0028] The one or more NEs 102 may be dispersed throughout a geographic region to form the wireless communications system 100. One or more of the NEs 102 described herein may be or include or may be referred to as a network node, a base station, a network element, a network function, a network entity, a radio access network (RAN) , a NodeB, an eNodeB (eNB) , a next-generation NodeB (gNB) , or other suitable terminology. An NE 102 and a UE 104 may communicate via a communication link, which may be a wireless or wired connection. For example, an NE 102 and a UE 104 may perform wireless communication (e.g., receive signaling, transmit signaling) over a Uu interface.

[0029] An NE 102 may provide a geographic coverage area for which the NE 102 may support services for one or more UEs 104 within the geographic coverage area. For example, an NE 102 and a UE 104 may support wireless communication of signals related to services (e.g., voice, video, packet data, messaging, broadcast, etc. ) according to one or multiple radio access technologies. In some implementations, an NE 102 may be moveable, for example, a satellite associated with a non-terrestrial network (NTN) . In some implementations, different geographic coverage areas associated with the same or different radio access technologies may overlap, but the different geographic coverage areas may be associated with different NE 102.

[0030] The one or more UEs 104 may be dispersed throughout a geographic region of the wireless communications system 100. A UE 104 may include or may be referred to as a remote unit, a mobile device, a wireless device, a remote device, a subscriber device, a transmitter device, a receiver device, or some other suitable terminology. In some implementations, the UE 104 may be referred to as a unit, a station, a terminal, or a client, among other examples.  Additionally, or alternatively, the UE 104 may be referred to as an Internet-of-Things (IoT) device, an Internet-of-Everything (IoE) device, or machine-type communication (MTC) device, among other examples.

[0031] A UE 104 may be able to support wireless communication directly with other UEs 104 over a communication link. For example, a UE 104 may support wireless communication directly with another UE 104 over a device-to-device (D2D) communication link. In some implementations, such as vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) deployments, vehicle-to-everything (V2X) deployments, or cellular-V2X deployments, the communication link may be referred to as a sidelink. For example, a UE 104 may support wireless communication directly with another UE 104 over a PC5 interface.

[0032] An NE 102 may support communications with the CN 106, or with another NE 102, or both. For example, an NE 102 may interface with other NE 102 or the CN 106 through one or more backhaul links (e.g., S1, N2, N6, or other network interface) . In some implementations, the NE 102 may communicate with each other directly. In some other implementations, the NE 102 may communicate with each other indirectly (e.g., via the CN 106) . In some implementations, one or more NEs 102 may include subcomponents, such as an access network entity, which may be an example of an access node controller (ANC) . An ANC may communicate with the one or more UEs 104 through one or more other access network transmission entities, which may be referred to as a radio heads, smart radio heads, or transmission-reception points (TRPs) .

[0033] The CN 106 may support user authentication, access authorization, tracking, connectivity, and other access, routing, or mobility functions. The CN 106 may be an evolved packet core (EPC) , or a 5G core (5GC) , which may include a control plane entity that manages access and mobility (e.g., a mobility management entity (MME) , an access and mobility management functions (AMF) ) and a user plane entity that routes packets or interconnects to external networks (e.g., a serving gateway (S-GW) , a packet data network (PDN) gateway (P-GW) , or a user plane function (UPF) ) . In some implementations, the control plane entity may manage non-access stratum (NAS) functions, such as mobility, authentication, and bearer management (e.g., data bearers, signal bearers, etc. ) for the one or more UEs 104 served by the one or more NEs 102 associated with the CN 106.

[0034] The CN 106 may communicate with a packet data network over one or more backhaul links (e.g., via an S1, N2, N6, or other network interface) . The packet data network may include an application server. In some implementations, one or more UEs 104 may  communicate with the application server. A UE 104 may establish a session (e.g., a protocol data unit (PDU) session, or the like) with the CN 106 via an NE 102. The CN 106 may route traffic (e.g., control information, data, and the like) between the UE 104 and the application server using the established session (e.g., the established PDU session) . The PDU session may be an example of a logical connection between the UE 104 and the CN 106 (e.g., one or more network functions of the CN 106) .

[0035] In the wireless communications system 100, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may use resources of the wireless communications system 100 (e.g., time resources (e.g., symbols, slots, subframes, frames, or the like) or frequency resources (e.g., subcarriers, carriers) ) to perform various operations (e.g., wireless communications) . In some implementations, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support different resource structures. For example, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support different frame structures. In some implementations, such as in 4G, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support a single frame structure. In some other implementations, such as in 5G and among other suitable radio access technologies, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support various frame structures (i.e., multiple frame structures) . The NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support various frame structures based on one or more numerologies.

[0036] One or more numerologies may be supported in the wireless communications system 100, and a numerology may include a subcarrier spacing and a cyclic prefix. A first numerology (e.g., μ=0) may be associated with a first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. In some implementations, the first numerology (e.g., μ=0) associated with the first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) may utilize one slot per subframe. A second numerology (e.g., μ=1) may be associated with a second subcarrier spacing (e.g., 30 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. A third numerology (e.g., μ=2) may be associated with a third subcarrier spacing (e.g., 60 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix or an extended cyclic prefix. A fourth numerology (e.g., μ=3) may be associated with a fourth subcarrier spacing (e.g., 120 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. A fifth numerology (e.g., μ=4) may be associated with a fifth subcarrier spacing (e.g., 240 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix.

[0037] A time interval of a resource (e.g., a communication resource) may be organized according to frames (also referred to as radio frames) . Each frame may have a duration, for example, a 10 millisecond (ms) duration. In some implementations, each frame may include multiple subframes. For example, each frame may include 10 subframes, and each subframe may have a duration, for example, a 1 ms duration. In some implementations, each frame may  have the same duration. In some implementations, each subframe of a frame may have the same duration.

[0038] Additionally, or alternatively, a time interval of a resource (e.g., a communication resource) may be organized according to slots. For example, a subframe may include a number (e.g., quantity) of slots. The number of slots in each subframe may also depend on the one or more numerologies supported in the wireless communications system 100. For instance, the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth numerologies (i.e., μ=0, μ=1, μ=2, μ=3, μ=4) associated with respective subcarrier spacings of 15 kHz, 30 kHz, 60 kHz, 120 kHz, and 240 kHz may utilize a single slot per subframe, two slots per subframe, four slots per subframe, eight slots per subframe, and 16 slots per subframe, respectively. Each slot may include a number (e.g., quantity) of symbols (e.g., OFDM symbols) . In some implementations, the number (e.g., quantity) of slots for a subframe may depend on a numerology. For a normal cyclic prefix, a slot may include 14 symbols. For an extended cyclic prefix (e.g., applicable for 60 kHz subcarrier spacing) , a slot may include 12 symbols. The relationship between the number of symbols per slot, the number of slots per subframe, and the number of slots per frame for a normal cyclic prefix and an extended cyclic prefix may depend on a numerology. It should be understood that reference to a first numerology (e.g., μ=0) associated with a first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) may be used interchangeably between subframes and slots.

[0039] In the wireless communications system 100, an electromagnetic (EM) spectrum may be split, based on frequency or wavelength, into various classes, frequency bands, frequency channels, etc. By way of example, the wireless communications system 100 may support one or multiple operating frequency bands, such as frequency range designations FR1 (410 MHz –7.125 GHz) , FR2 (24.25 GHz –52.6 GHz) , FR3 (7.125 GHz –24.25 GHz) , FR4 (52.6 GHz –114.25 GHz) , FR4a or FR4-1 (52.6 GHz –71 GHz) , and FR5 (114.25 GHz –300 GHz) . In some implementations, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may perform wireless communications over one or more of the operating frequency bands. In some implementations, FR1 may be used by the NEs 102 and the UEs 104, among other equipment or devices for cellular communications traffic (e.g., control information, data) . In some implementations, FR2 may be used by the NEs 102 and the UEs 104, among other equipment or devices for short-range, high data rate capabilities.

[0040] FR1 may be associated with one or multiple numerologies (e.g., at least three numerologies) . For example, FR1 may be associated with a first numerology (e.g., μ=0) , which includes 15 kHz subcarrier spacing; a second numerology (e.g., μ=1) , which includes 30 kHz  subcarrier spacing; and a third numerology (e.g., μ=2) , which includes 60 kHz subcarrier spacing. FR2 may be associated with one or multiple numerologies (e.g., at least 2 numerologies) . For example, FR2 may be associated with a third numerology (e.g., μ=2) , which includes 60 kHz subcarrier spacing; and a fourth numerology (e.g., μ=3) , which includes 120 kHz subcarrier spacing.

[0041] According to implementations, one or more of the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 are operable to implement various aspects of the techniques described with reference to the present disclosure. For example, a UE 104 may be implemented as a sensing Rx node (e.g., a network sensing node) , and a NE 102 may be implemented as a SensMF (e.g., a configuration entity) . The UE 104 receives, from a SensMF, a first signaling including a configuration for reception and measurement of a sensing signal. The UE 104 receives the sensing signal, and detects one or more reflected signal paths of the sensing signal based on the configuration for the reception of the sensing signal. The UE 104 identifies one or more path types of the one or more reflected signal paths as being one or more of a specular reflection, a LOS, or having a first order reflection propagation condition based on the configuration for the measurement of the sensing signal. The UE 104 then transmits, to the SensMF, a second signaling including a report of the detected one or more reflected signal paths and the identified one or more path types.

[0042] The NE 102 (e.g., as a SensMF) transmits, to a network sensing node (e.g., the UE 104) , a first signaling including a configuration for reception and measurement of a sensing signal, and for identification of one or more path types of detected reflected signal paths as being one or more of a specular reflection, a LOS, or having a first order reflection propagation condition. The NE 102 receives, from the network sensing node, a second signaling including a report of the detected reflected signal paths and the one or more path types. Reference is made herein to communicating data or information, such as signaling that is transmitted or received between devices. It is to be appreciated that other terms may be used interchangeably with signaling, such as communicating, transmitting, receiving, outputting, forwarding, retrieving, obtaining, and so forth.

[0043] Figure 2 illustrates examples 200 of reflective sensing of a signal path from a sensing Tx node 202, to a sensing target 204, to a sensing Rx node 206 as related to specular reflection detection and measurement, in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. The examples 200 illustrate two rotation conditions of the sensing target 204, which leads to different observable reflection types at the sensing Rx node 206.

[0044] With reference to a diffused scattering reflection (at 208) , the shape and rotation of the sensing target 204, together with the relative location of the sensing Tx node 202 and the sensing Rx node 206, causes a signal path, which is observable at the sensing Rx node 206 predominantly based on a diffused scattering effect, where the location of the sensing target 204 and surface angle can be indicated as θ1≠θ2. In contrast, with reference to a specular reflection (at 210) , the observed reflective signal path is predominantly of the specular nature, given the symmetrical relative position of the sensing Tx node 202 and the sensing Rx node 206 with respect to the target area surface, which can be indicated as θ1=θ2. A specular reflection preserves a larger portion of wave energy compared to the diffused, scattering type of signal reflection and further, preserves the geometrical (angular) relation between the incidence and reflection rays, which can be informative for a sensing measurement operation. This is therefore beneficial to utilize properties of specular reflection in the interest of improved sensing measurements (e.g., for extracting a target rotation condition or the relative position of a target surface, or for locating a sensing Tx node and / or a sensing Rx node.

[0045] In the conventional, current L1 measurement and reporting framework, a signal path of any property may be detected and reported. Nevertheless, the current L1 measurement and reporting framework does not support distinction between signal path type measurement and reporting of a specular reflection and a non-specular reflection, in terms of detection, measurement, and reporting of signal path reflection. The SensMF can be implemented as a network entity and / or as a function, and SensMF indicates one or more of a core network entity or function, a RAN management entity or function, a function implemented in a UE or other network device, or as a distributed function across multiple entities or devices.

[0046] With reference to network-based and UE-based radio sensing scenarios, a network entity, such as SensMF, configures the participating sensing entities, such as network and / or UE nodes operating as sensing Tx nodes, and network and / or UE nodes operating as sensing Rx nodes. The SensMF also provides the configuration of sensing signals, measurements, and reporting procedures from the nodes. In implementations, the functional distribution between the network and the UE nodes for a specific sensing task (e.g., a task of detecting the presence of a  pedestrian in a road) may take various forms, depending on the availability of sensing-capable devices and the requirements of the specific sensing task.

[0047] Figure 3 illustrates an example 300 of a network entity operational as a sensing Tx node for sensing scenarios as related to specular reflection detection and measurement, in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. As shown in the example 300, a first scenario 302 includes sensing Tx at a network node 304 (e.g., a gNB) and sensing Rx at a separate network node 306 (e.g., a gNB) . In this example, the sensing reference signal (RS) (or another RS used for sensing or the data / control channels known to the network transmit-receive point (TRP) nodes) is transmitted and received by the network entities. The involvement of UE nodes is limited to the aspects of interference management, when necessary, and the network does not utilize the UEs for sensing assistance in this scenario.

[0048] A second scenario 308 includes sensing Tx at the network node 304 (e.g., a gNB) and sensing Rx at the same network node 304. In this example, the sensing RS (or another RS used for sensing or the data / control channels known to the network TRP nodes) is transmitted and received by the same network entity. The involvement of the UE nodes is limited to the aspects of interference management, when necessary, and the network does not utilize the UEs for sensing assistance in this scenario. A third scenario 310 includes sensing Tx at a network node 304 (e.g., a gNB) and sensing Rx at a UE node 312. In this example, the sensing RS or other RS used for sensing is transmitted by a network entity and received by one or multiple UE nodes (e.g., UE 312) . The network configures the UEs to act as a sensing Rx node, according to the UE nodes capabilities for sensing, as well as a desired sensing task.

[0049] Figure 4 illustrates an example 400 of a UE operational as a sensing Tx node for sensing scenarios as related to specular reflection detection and measurement, in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. As shown in the example 400, a fourth scenario 402 includes sensing Tx at a UE 404 and sensing Rx as a network node 406 (e.g., a gNB) . In this example, the sensing RS or other RS used for sensing (or a data / control channel transmitted by the UE 404) is received by one or multiple network entities and transmitted by a UE node. The network configures the UE 404 to operate as a sensing Tx node, according to the UE nodes capabilities for sensing, as well as the nature of the desired sensing task.

[0050] A fifth scenario 408 includes sensing Tx at the UE node 404 and sensing Rx at a separate UE node 410. In this example, the sensing RS or other RS used for sensing is received by one or multiple UE nodes and transmitted by a UE node. In this case, the network, or a UE  node, can be implemented to determine a configuration of the sensing scenario. In one instance, the network configures the UEs to act as sensing Tx and / or sensing Rx nodes, according to the UE nodes capabilities for sensing, as well as the nature of the desired sensing task. A sixth scenario 412 includes sensing Tx at the UE node 404 and sensing Rx at the same UE node 404. In this example, the sensing RS (or another RS used for sensing or the data and / or control channels known to the UE) is transmitted by the UE node and received by the same UE node. In this case, the UE or the network configures the sensing scenario, according to the UE nodes capabilities for sensing, as well as the nature of the desired sensing task.

[0051] The above-described scenarios in examples 300 and 400 are not intended to be restricted to a specific UE type, and may include any UE category and / or functionality (e.g., a UE, a road-side unit (RSU) ) . In any of the above scenarios, any of the roles depicted for a gNB and / or a UE may be replaced (with equal validity as an example of a radio sensing scenario) with a smart repeater node, an IAB node, or an RSU.

[0052] With reference to a sensing network architecture, integrated sensing and communication can enhance the 5G core architecture by introducing a new sensing function (SF) . Proposed architectures for enhancing the 5G core new introduce a SF as a dedicated or logical network function (NF) .

[0053] Figure 5 illustrates an example of a network architecture diagram 500 in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. In some examples, the network architecture diagram 500 implements or is implemented by aspects of the wireless communications system 100. For example, the network architecture diagram 500 may implement or be implemented by one or more NEs and UEs, which may be examples of the corresponding devices and actions described herein.

[0054] The network architecture diagram 500 may include a unified data management (UDM) 502, which manages subscriber data and profiles. The UDM 502 may be connected to an access and mobility management function (AMF) 504 via an interface for subscriber data management and authentication procedures. The AMF 504 can perform access control and mobility management. An access network (AN) or radio AN (RAN) 506 provides a wireless interface between devices and the CN. For example, an interface may connect the RAN 506 to the AMF 504 and carry signaling related to radio resource management, mobility, and handover procedures. In some cases, the network architecture diagram 500 includes a user plane function  (UPF) 508 to perform user data routing and forwarding. An interface between the RAN 506 and the UPF 508 may carry user plane data between the two entities.

[0055] For sensing operations, the network architecture diagram 500 may include one or more sensing entities. For example, the network architecture diagram 500 may include a sensing function control (SF-C) 510 that manages sensing tasks and a sensing function user plane (SF-U) 512 that processes sensing data. Additionally, or alternatively, the functions performed by the SF-C 510 and the SF-U 512 may be performed by a single sensing entity. In some examples, the network architecture diagram 500 includes a network data analytics function (NWDAF) 514 to provide data analytics capabilities to the SF-C 510. Additionally, or alternatively, the SF-C 510 implements an LMF 516 to determine device locations. The network architecture diagram 500 may also include a policy control function (PCF) 518 to define and enforce network policies, a network exposure function (NEF) 520 to expose network capabilities to external applications, and an application function (AF) 522 to represent external applications that utilize network services. In some cases, the entities in the network architecture diagram 500 communicate via interfaces connecting the entities to enable integrated communication and sensing capabilities for devices in a wireless communications system (e.g., the wireless communications system 100) .

[0056] In some cases, the entities in the network architecture diagram 500 may be arranged in a hierarchical structure, with the SF-C 510 serving as a central node connecting multiple other entities in the network architecture diagram 500. The UDM 502, the NWDAF 514, the LMF 516, and the PCF 518 may be directly connected to the SF-C 510, enabling data exchange and control flow between the UDM 502, the NWDAF 514, the LMF 516, and the PCF 518 and a sensing function. The AMF 504 may be connected to both the UDM 502 and the RAN 506, which may provide for management of access and mobility between the CN and RAN 506. The UPF 508 may be connected to both the RAN 506 and the SF-U 512 to manage user plane data for both communication and sensing functions.

[0057] In some cases, the sensing function (e.g., the SF-C 510 and / or the SF-U 512) may be a dedicated network function to handle sensing control plane procedures and sensing radio signals for performing analysis or prediction for determining targets. The control plane procedures can include, but is not limited to, interaction with a sensing consumer via a NEF 520 and information exchange with other network functions for gathering UE information, (e.g., from the AMF 504, UDM 502, LMF 516, UE related policies from the PCF 518, and analytics from the NWDAF 514) . In some other cases, the sensing function may include two dedicated  network functions, including the SF-C 510 and the SF-U 512. The SF-C 510 handles control plane procedures, while the SF-U 512 is responsible for collecting the sensing radio signals via the user plane (e.g., via the RAN 506 and UPF 508) . Thus, the SF-C 510 and the SF-U 512 route (e.g., divide, split, offload) data volumes associated with sensing radio signals to the user plane to enable relatively lighter data traffic (e.g., singling) in the control plane. In some cases, the sensing function may be collocated with the LMF 516, such that the sensing function is a logical network function embedded in the LMF 516 that performs wireless sensing using UE location information. In some other cases, the sensing function is independent of the 5G core (e.g., for local field scenarios or private networks) . The sensing function may be close to the RAN 506 to collect and process the sensing radio signals locally and may interact with the 5G core for the purpose of exposure via a NEF 520 for sending the UE location from the AMF 504 and for analytics at the NWDAF 514.

[0058] With reference to a tight coupling ISAC network architecture, the SF appears as a dedicated NF handling both: (i) the sensing control plane aspects, such as the interaction with the sensing consumer via NEF 520 and information exchange with other NFs, for gathering UE information (i.e., from the AMF 504, UDM 502, LMF 516, UE related policies from the PCF 518, and analytics from the NWDAF 514; and (ii) the sensing radio signals for performing the analysis or prediction for determining the sensing target. With reference to a tight coupling ISAC network architecture with CP / UP split, the SF has two dedicated NF counter parts: (i) the SF-C 510 that handles the control plane aspects as described above and (ii) the SF-U 512 that is responsible for collecting the sensing radio signals via the user plane (i.e., via the RAN 506 and UPF 508) . The idea of this architecture is to split and offload heavy data volumes associated with sensing radio signals to the user plane to ensure light traffic (i.e., only signaling in the control plane) .

[0059] With reference to SF collocated with the LMF 516, this appears as a logical NF embedded in the LMF to perform sensing taking advantage of the knowledge of a UE location. For a loose coupling ISAC network architecture, the SF is independent of the 5G core and typically used for local field scenarios or private networks, and the interaction with the 5G core is minimal. The main idea is to use SF close to the RAN 506, such as to collect and process the sensing radio signals locally, and interact with 5G core for the purpose of exposure via NEF 520, for getting the UE location from the AMF 504 and for analytics (the NWDAF 514) .

[0060] In some examples, the SensMF is a sensing controller function that includes one or more of a UE, a RAN node, a gNB or gNB-CU, an LMF, a sensing function, or any combination  thereof, The SensMF may receive a request for sensing information from a service consumer (e.g., a requesting third party application) . Additionally, or alternatively, the SensMF may determine a selection and / or a configuration of a sensing operation, including a configuration of one or more of a transmitting device (e.g., a sensing Tx node) and / or a receiving device (e.g., a sensing Rx node) . Additionally, or alternatively, the SensMF may select and / or configure the involved devices (e.g., nodes) for sensing transmission, sensing reception, sensing measurement, and reporting of the conducted measurements. Additionally, or alternatively, the SensMF may collect the sensing measurements. Additionally, or alternatively, the SensMF may perform, configure, or request computation of the sensing measurements and determine the sensing information based on the obtained sensing measurements. Additionally, or alternatively, the SensMF may report (e.g., expose) obtained sensing information to the entity requesting the sensing information.

[0061] In some examples, if the SensMF includes multiple nodes (e.g., entities) , then one or more of processes for sensing may be implemented by a node of the SensMF and one or more different processes may be implemented by additional nodes of the SensMF (e.g., implemented in the sensing function and a NE (gNB) ) . In some examples, if the SensMF includes multiple nodes and / or entities, then the communication among the SensMF entities are transparent to the outside entities, nevertheless, the communication among the SensMF entities are implicit to the overall procedure for sensing. In some examples, if a SensMF includes a sensing function (SF) and a NE, such as a gNB (e.g., serving or head gNB of a related UE to the sensing task or a selected serving gNB for a sensing task) , then the sensing function receives the request, collects the sensing measurements, performs, configures, or requests computation of the sensing measurements, and reports the sensing information. The gNB node determines the selection and / or configuration of the sensing operation and selects and / or configures the involved devices for sensing transmission and sensing reception. In some other examples, the sensing function and gNB jointly determine selection and / or configuration of the sensing operation and collect the sensing measurements, where a first part of the configuration or determination is performed by the sensing function and a second part of the configuration or determination is performed by the gNB. For example, the SF supports the serving gNB of a sensing task with some recommendations and the serving gNB will decide and configure the involved nodes, or the serving gNB of a sensing task supports the SF with some recommendations and the SF will decide or choose among the possible configurations. In other variations, the SensMF may be a  RAN node (e.g., a selected gNB node acting as serving gNB of a sensing task) , may be a sensing function residing in CN, may be a UE, or any combination thereof.

[0077] Aspects of the present disclosure are described in the context of specular reflection detection and measurement and provide that a signal path is reported by a measurement node to the SensMF or indicated by the SensMF to the sensing Rx node, as being of a specific path type, including a path of one or more of a first order reflection, an M-th order reflection, or a specular reflection. At a sensing Rx node, filtering of the group of detected paths (before reporting) according to an expected spread or variance of path parameters within a path group, an expected vibration rate of a path, and an expected energy ratio of a dominant path within a path group to the energy contained within the path group (similar to the K-ratio factor confined within a path  group or cluster) . Aspects of the present disclosure include an indicated artificial intelligence and / or machine learning (AI / ML) model or functionality for determining a path as a relative sensing path type. A sensing Rx node or a SensMF detection and identification of a specular path condition based on the equivalence of the angle of incidence and reflection towards a target, orientation of the target, a sensing Tx node, a sensing Rx node, a target position, and / or a path energy associated with the path.

[0078] Additionally, a sensing Rx node behavior pre-configured to perform additional path measurements and / or reporting of a detected path based on the signal path being identified as a specific path type (e.g., of the specular reflective path of a single order reflection and associated with a sensing target) , and additional measurement including carrier phase or carrier phase difference of the detected path based on the path associated with specular propagation. Additionally, a sensing Rx node, upon reporting of a detected path (of an indicated path type) , stores in memory the generated path measurements and received sensing signal for an indicated window of time, and if indicated, receives a true or correct path type of the detected and / or reported path corrects the determination and identification process of the path types based on the true or correct path type feedback.

[0079] In aspects of this disclosure, enhancement features of the L1 measurement framework are described, and include a radio node (also referred to herein as a network sensing node or a radio network node) performing measurements on a defined and / or configured signal detects and reports a path as being a specular reflective path. The measurement node makes determination as to whether a detected or measured path is of a particular path type, which may be a specular reflective signal path. The features include a radio node performing measurements on a defined and / or configured signal receives an indication of a path being associated with a specular reflection condition. The configuration entity, such as the SensMF, indicates to the radio node that the signal path is of a particular type. Responsive to a path being detected and / or indicated as being associated with a specular reflection, further (pre-) configured measurement quantities are generated and reported by the radio node. The radio node may adjust its measurement behavior and conduct further measurements based on an indication from the SensMF that a signal path is of a particular type. For example, if a signal path is indicated back to the SensMF as being of a single-order specular reflection, then the measurement node knows this is a valid type of signal path from which to report channel carrier phase measurements.

[0080] The sensing results of a sensing target (e.g., an object) and the presence, detection, and tracking information is subsequently generated at the SensMF located in core or at the RAN  at least in part based on the determination and / or the received report of a signal path being a specular reflective path and / or the measurement quantities obtained and reported on the signal path. When the measurement node (e.g., a sensing Rx node) makes a determination that a signal path is of a particular path type, then it can report back to the SensMF that this signal path is of a particular type because it knows (based on the feedback above) what the signal path type is, and this additional information can be used by the SensMF to compute better sensing results.

[0081] In one or more implementations, a sensing Rx node is configured via the SensMF to perform sensing measurement and reporting sensing quantities based on reception of an indicated and / or configured sensing signal (e.g., a DL, UL, or SL RS, or a DL or SL PRS, or a sensing RS, etc. ) , The sensing Rx node performs detection and / or reporting of a path as being a relevant sensing path or a candidate for being a relevant sensing path. The sensing Rx node receives an indication of a signal path, such as a path type defined via the expected range of its parameters, a previously reported signal path by the measurement node to the SensMF or a previously indicated, defined, and / or described signal path by the SensMF, as being a relevant sensing path. The sensing Rx node can store in memory context information of the signal path that is indicated and / or detected as being a relevant sensing path, including storing the obtained measurement of the path, the measurement context, a time-stamp at which the measurement is conducted, for at least an indicated, configured, and / or assumed minimum time duration. The sensing Rx node can generate and report measurement quantities subsequent to a signal path being identified or indicated as a relevant sensing path.

[0082] In some implementations, identification (and / or reporting) of a signal path being a relevant sensing path and / or an associated path type includes checking for and applying a condition or filter on the observable or measurable parameters of the signal path by the sensing Rx node. In some examples, the filter or condition is applied on the observable and / or measured paths of a received sensing signal at the sensing Rx node prior to the reporting of the paths, where only the paths for which the reporting criteria applies are expected to be reported. In some examples, the filter or condition is utilized by the sensing Rx node to identify one or more path types associated with a detected and / or measured path. In implementations, the condition or filter includes the signal path TOA and / or TOF being within an expected range of the TOA and / or TOF values (e.g., as a TOA measurable at the sensing Rx node as absolute time, or according to or relative to a time reference, or a second TOA known to the sensing Rx node (e.g., as a time-difference of arrival of the signal path from the LOS path being within an indicated value range of [T1, T2] ) . The condition or filter may include the path AOA and / or  ZOA being within an expected range of the AOA and / or ZOA values according to the global coordinate system, according to a known or local coordinate system of the sensing Rx node, or according to a second angle known to the sensing Rx node (e.g., the path ZOA and / or AOA being within a maximum thirty degrees of the ZOA and / or the AOA of the first or direct detected path.

[0083] The condition or filter may include that the signal path energy or power is within an indicated expected value range, where the value range is given as an absolute energy or power value, or relative to another or known energy or power of a previously measured path or signal. The condition or filter may include the path expansion or contraction speed and / or rate (or correspondingly the path doppler frequency shift) being within an expected value range of the expansion or contraction speed or rate (or correspondingly an expected value range of the path doppler shift) .

[0084] The condition or filter may include a signal path vibration rate, such as the path vibration rate and / or frequency in one or more of the observed path distance, path TOA, path phase, path AOA, path ZOA, path energy, strength, and / or amplitude by the sensing Rx node or a combination thereof) and / or vibration energy (e.g., energy, power, or strength associated with the received path or ray, or path or ray group corresponding to the vibration) being within an indicated value range. In some examples, the vibration rate may be interpreted as a frequency or rate or a dominant frequency or rate of an observed periodic behavior of a path, such as corresponding to rotational movement of the wheels or blades, or (almost) periodic movement of breathing lungs or a beating heart. In one such example, a path filter or condition includes a path vibration frequency (e.g., 30-90 Hz) to measure a signal path containing information of a heart activity, where the vibration is indicated to be observable in the domain of one or more of the path phase, path amplitude, strength, and / or power, and with an energy or power associated with the vibration (at least 0.01) of the total received energy of the path (the energy of the vibrating component within the received path exceeds at least 0.01 of the total energy received by the path) .

[0085] In some examples, the domain of the vibration is indicated or reported via an index from a table or a codebook, where the codebook includes supported possible combinations of the signal domain in which the vibration may be observed and / or measured, such as in a table including any one or combination of the phase, AOA, ZOA, angle, doppler, energy, and / or strength. One example of the supported domain of AOA for observable vibration includes measurement and / or observation of a rotational movement of a path reflected from a rotating  mechanical object, where the path vibration is observable in the measured AOA of the path associated with the mechanical object at the sensing Rx node. In one or more implementations, (with or without the configuration of the path filter including a description of path vibration) any of the described types of the path vibration (of any frequency, domain, or energy) may be configured to be measured and / or reported by the sensing Rx node to the SensMF.

[0086] In one or more implementations, the supported vibration type, vibration frequency range, vibration domain (e.g., of angle, delay, phase, doppler, etc. ) , supported measurement accuracy of the vibration rate, are reported or indicated by a sensing Rx node (measurement node) to the SensMF as part of the capability description for sensing. For example, a sensing Rx node indicates as a capability information element to the SensMF that it can perform measurement on the observable vibration rate in the received angle, AOA, ZOA, or delay of a path, for the vibration rate of between 0 to 2 per-sec. A measured spread, deviation, maximum distance, difference in one or more of angle AOA or ZOA, delay, TOF or TOA, doppler shift of a path or ray group associated with the signal path is within an indicated value range. In some of these examples, the signal path or the path or ray group is determined or detected to be associated with a sensing target or object, and for which the path condition or filter includes a delay spread or variance, or maximum delay, AOA, ZOA, doppler shift difference of the rays or signal paths (e.g., the path or ray group corresponding to 99%of the path group energy associated with the sensing target) , being within an indicated or defined value range of delay, angle, doppler spread, or difference. In some examples, the condition or filter may include that the path is observed at the sensing Rx node with a spherical curvature, depth, or focal point according to an indicated distance and / or area from the sensing Rx node or an antenna reference point of the sensing Rx node.

[0087] In an example, a sensing Rx node performs measurements on objects on a road, and as part of the path condition or filter is indicated with a delay spread or difference of (2-6 nsec) as an expected or permissible range of a delay spread of a detected signal path. As such, the measurement node will associate the observed path or path group to a medium size vehicle, and report the detected path type when it belongs to the indicated delay spread range. In some examples, the measurement node will not report the detected path or path groups for which the observed delay spread is either too low (e.g., corresponding to a pedestrian) , or too high (e.g., corresponding to a large truck, etc. ) . As such, the measurement node can differentiate different targets, signal paths, or path groups based on the observed spread of the measured path parameters and / or the received path filter or condition information. In some examples, a signal  path which contributed to an observed path group spread of delay, angle, doppler, or a combination thereof.

[0088] The condition or filter may include the path power or energy ratio between the energy or power contained in the signal path, and the energy contained in one or more of an associated path or ray group to the signal path. In some examples, a sensing Rx node detects multiple sensing Rx signal paths as a path group reflected via a same target object and within a maximum delay or angle difference, for which the energy ratio of an individual received path or ray to the total energy of the detected path group is above a threshold and indicates the signal path or ray satisfies a defined path filter or condition and / or represents a defined path type. In an example, the filter on the detected signal path includes the dominant path of the path group containing at least 50%of the total power or energy of the signal path group.

[0089] In one or more implementations, a condition or filter of the path corresponding to a computational model (e.g., a known or pre-defined AI / ML model or functionality at the measurement node) , such as an AI / ML model taking at least one or more of the received configuration information of the sensing signal or RS, the received signal at the sensing Rx node, the transmission condition and / or information of the sensing signal, measured path parameters at the sensing Rx node, and generates one or more of a signal path being a relevant sensing path, a path condition or filter, or path type being true, false, or a probability of a path type (e.g., an AI / ML model determines a path as being a specular path with a probability or likelihood of 95%)

[0090] In one or more implementations, a signal path is indicated as one or more signal path types, such as according to one or more of the above-described filters or upon implementation of the measurement node (e.g., the sensing Rx node determines the path with a first-order reflection) . In any of the above-described path conditions or filters, and in some examples, the signal path may be interpreted as a path (an identified or detected propagation path) , or an observed channel sample, tap, or response (e.g., the samples of the measured or estimated channel taps or samples prior to inferring the paths within the observed channel samples or taps) , or a combination thereof. In some examples, the correct interpretation of a path filter or condition, including channel sample or taps or including propagation paths, is further indicated to the sensing Rx node.

[0091] In one or more implementations, the value range indicates a value within (v1, v2) such that v1, v2 may be one or more of a positive or negative finite real value, a positive or  negative infinite value, an absolute value or a relative value (given in relation to another value that is known or measurable by the sensing Rx node) . In some implementations, the value range is indicated via an index from a known table, where the table includes different possible combinations for constructing the values. In some implementations, the range (v1, v2) is defined according to a reference value for the sensing Rx node. In such examples, the value of one or more of v1, v2 or (v1+v2)  / 2, is a known reference value (indicated by the SensMF or determined and / or detected by the sensing Rx node) . In some examples, the reference value is a parameter of a path detected or measured by the sensing Rx node and / or indicated by the SensMF to the sensing Rx node (e.g., the AOA or TOA of a path detected as the direct path received by the sensing Rx node is assumed as a reference value for a path filter or condition including (AOA-10 deg., AOA + 10 deg. ) , or (TOA, TOA + 10 Tc) where Tc is a known and / or indicated absolute time duration to the sensing Rx node.

[0092] In some implementations, a path filter or condition further includes a number of signal paths, where the filtering includes selection of the number of signal paths according to an indicated path condition or filter, such as described herein. For example, a path filter or condition may include selection of six signal paths which satisfy or best (within minimal error or difference) an indicated path condition or filter. In one such example, the path filter includes selection of the six signal paths which are closest in their one or more path parameters to an indicated value of the path parameter, or to a measured value of the parameter for a detected or indicated path.

[0093] In some implementations, the indication or reporting of a path by the SensMF to a measurement node, or from the measurement node to the SensMF, includes an indication of a path type and / or the probability or likelihood of a path type, where a path type may include one or more of filtering for these conditions to determine the path type. The path filters or path types can be defined as the filter or condition on a path, and also as information to be reported, and can have a probabilistic measure, such as a path type may be an 85%likelihood, and can be reported.

[0094] In some implementations, a direct propagation path between a sensing Tx and a sensing Rx node, which may further include subtypes of a direct path with a LOS condition between the sensing Tx node and the sensing Rx node. Alternatively, a direct path with blocked status between the sensing Tx node and the sensing Rx node. A propagation path of a single, single or lower, single or higher with a reflection, bounce, scattering order between the sensing Tx node and the sensing Rx node. A propagation path of an M reflection, bounce, scattering  order between the sensing Tx node and the sensing Rx node, where different types can be constructed for different M ∈ {1, 2, 3, 4} , where M is an element of the set {1, 2, 3, 4} . A propagation path of an M or lower, or M or higher reflection, bounce, scattering order between the sensing Tx node and the sensing Rx node, where different types can be constructed for different M ∈ {1, 2, 3, 4} . A signal path being associated with a specular reflection condition (e.g., a path being associated with a single-order specular reflection) . A signal path being associated with an indicated sensing target and / or a sensing target area (e.g., a signal path associated with a single order reflection from an object or target identifier (ID) , or passing through or reflected or scattered within a sensing area, a path associated with a specular reflection from an object or target ID) .

[0095] In some implementations, a signal path is not associated with a sensing target and / or a target sensing area (e.g., a signal path indicated as being a clutter, and / or environment or unwanted reflections) . A signal path associated with being static, for which one or more of the path parameters are expected to remain static over a period of time (e.g., reflections from a ground or a wall, which is not expected to move) . A signal path associated with an indicated or defined path condition or filter (with one or more features of a condition or filter described above) , such as via a defined filter or filter group ID. A signal path associated with a LOS condition between a reflection, scattering point, or area of a target object and to one or more of the sensing Tx node or the sensing Rx node (e.g., a signal path with a reflection order of two or above by which the sensing Rx node observes reflection from the sensing target via at least a LOS target-Rx ray) . A direct path, a direct path with a LOS condition, a direct path with an NLOS condition. In some implementations, an indication, determination, and / or reporting of a signal path type further includes a probabilistic measure describing one or more of the confidence, accuracy, reliability, error, or likelihood of the determined, indicated, or reported signal path type (e.g., a signal path is indicated by the sensing Rx node or by the SensMF as being a first order specular reflection with a reliability or confidence class with index 2 according to a known reliability, confidence description table or codebook, or with a 99%reliability and / or confidence.

[0096] In some examples, the probabilistic measure may be indicated as part of a signal path filtering or condition (asignal path condition or filtering defined with a probability or likelihood of at least 80%of being a specular LOS or single order reflective path. In some examples, the probabilistic measure may be indicated as part of a path indication or reporting by the sensing Rx node, measurement node (e.g., sensing Tx node) , and / or by the SensMF (e.g., a detected  signal path is reported by the measurement node to the SensMF or indicated by the SensMF to the measurement node as being of a path type with single order reflection with specular reflection, and with an accuracy, likelihood, or probability for the reported path of 80%percent) .

[0097] In one or more implementations, when a path is indicated as being associated with a signal path type as a combination of multiple path types together with a probability, reliability, accuracy, or likelihood level for the path type, then the path type probability may be associated with the combined indicated path type, or each of the compound path type elements individually. In one such example, the signal path is indicated with 80%probability for being a single order reflective path with specular reflection condition. In another such example, the path is indicated as being 90%of a single order reflection path and 60%as being associated with a specular reflection condition.

[0098] In some implementations, based on an indication or (pre-) configuration of a signal path type and / or a path condition or filter for a sensing Rx node (measurement node) , the node reports the conducted sensing measurements according to the path filter or condition types. In some examples, this may include the indicated, requested, configured or measured path parameters of the one or more paths identified by the sensing Rx node (or in some other examples indicated to the sensing Rx node) that satisfy the indicated path condition or filter types. In some examples, the sensing Rx node is expected to report the full measurement or the sampled channel measurements, or path measurements which are determined to be related to the identified or indicated path filter or condition types.

[0099] In some examples, when the sensing Rx node is expected or configured to report full measurements which are determined to be related to the identified or indicated path filter or condition or types, the sensing Rx node reports the measured signal samples (in time or frequency domain) which are first filtered according to the indicated or configured path filters (e.g., filtered to only include components related to an indicated AOA value range or doppler, delay, or time value range) . In some examples, the conducted measurements (i.e., filtered signal samples in the time domain according to the indicated AOA range) are compressed or quantized according to a known or (pre-) configured codebook or compression scheme in the sensing Rx node prior to reporting.

[0100] In some examples when the sensing Rx node is expected or configured to report samples or taps of the measured channel response, which is determined to be related to the identified or indicated path filter, condition, or types, the sensing Rx node reports the measured  channel taps or measured channel samples according to the indicated or configured path condition, filters, or types (e.g., reporting the measured channel taps and / or in combination with the determined or estimated path parameters based on the channel sample or taps) associated with the indicated AOA, ZOA, delay, doppler, vibration rate, or channel sample or taps associated with the path condition, or the channel sample or taps associated with a detected path or direction of a reflector (e.g., of a detected sensing target) . In some examples where the sensing Rx node reports the channel tap or samples related to a detected path, the configuration for reporting of the channel tap or samples further include a sample or distance margin or window (of one or more parameters of the delay, time, AOA, ZOA, doppler, etc. ) where the channel sample or taps shall be reported within the sample or distance margin (of the parameter) . In one such example, when a signal path is detected according to a path filter, condition, or type, then the measured channel sample or taps within an indicated margin of (e.g., -2nsec +2nsec) of delay relative to the detected signal path are reported by the sensing Rx node.

[0101] In some implementations, the reporting of the measured channel samples further include the sampling time window, duration, start, and / or end time of the sampling time window, a sampling frequency or sampling time (e.g., the time between two channel samples) . In some examples, the sampling time, period, and / or frequency of the sensing Rx channel measurement report is the same as the sampling time of the known and / or indicated sensing Rx node assumed for its baseband processing. In some other examples, the sampling time of the sensing Rx node is different than the sampling time of the known and / or indicated sensing Rx node assumed for its baseband processing. In some examples, the sampling time is indicated to the sensing Rx node (as configuration information to the sensing Rx node) or reported by the sensing Rx node (to the SensMF by the sensing Rx nodes as capability information) as one or more sampling time values, or down-sampling ratios. In some examples, the measurement and / or reporting of the channel samples includes channel measurements in a combined domain of one or more of the delay, frequency, doppler, AOA, ZOA, and micro doppler harmonics (e.g., a path or a measured channel sample is reported with associated values for TOA, ZOA, AOA, doppler shift, vibration, micro doppler of the path or channel samples) . As such, measurement and / or reporting of the channel samples include the channel measurements in the sampled values (according to a minimum value, a maximum value, sampling window, sampling rate, or distance) of one or more of the doppler frequency shift, micro doppler frequency, AOA, ZOA, delay (e.g., measurement and reporting of the channel samples in doppler frequency samples and / or taps within a defined window of doppler frequency) . In some examples, the measurement  of the channel samples in one or more of the domains are configured and / or determined, at least in part, via indication of one or more of the channel filter or conditions as described above.

[0102] In one or more implementations, the sensing Rx node (e.g., according to a received indication or configuration information) , performs additional sensing measurements and / or reporting on a detected or measured signal path responsive to the signal path being detected or identified (by the sensing Rx node) or indicated (by the SensMF) as being a relevant sensing path and / or of an indicated path type (e.g., a signal path is identified by the sensing Rx node as a relevant sensing path with a specular single order reflection of a sensing target according to a defined path filter or indicated via the SensMF as a relevant sensing path with a single order specular reflection from a sensing target) . In some examples, responsive to the detected path being identified or indicated as being a relevant sensing path (e.g., a first order specular reflective path associated with the sensing target or sensing target area) , the associated nodes are pre-configured or configured to perform one or more of the following, including:

[0103] Measurement and reporting (by the sensing Rx node) of the path carrier, channel, or path phase (e.g., a phase of a signal or channel received by the path, carrier path, or channel phase difference of the path, with the direct path or LOS path or carrier phase difference of a signal path measured at two different bands or frequencies. Measurement and reporting (by the sensing Rx node) of the path energy or power at different time instances, including a time stamp where the signal path has transitioned into a higher energy or specular condition, a timestamp where the signal path has transitioned out of the higher energy or specular condition. A position of the specular reflection point (determined by the sensing Rx node or by the SensMF) (e.g., estimated based on at least one or more of the knowledge of the signal path being of the first order specular type, the estimated TOF of the path, and AOA, ZOA of the signal path, orientation of a reflector surface, the position of the sensing Tx node and / or the sensing Rx node) . An orientation of the specular reflection surface (determined by the sensing Rx node or by the SensMF) (e.g., estimated at least based on one or more of the knowledge of the signal path being of the first order specular type, the estimated TOF of the path, and AOA, ZOA of the signal path, the position of the sensing Tx node and / or the sensing Rx node) .

[0104] Measurement and reporting (by the sensing Rx node) of the path energy or power and / or RCS of a target with a different orientation of the specular reflection surface (e.g., estimated at least based on one or more of the knowledge of the path being of the first order specular type with different orientations) . The measurement node observes periodic samples of the signal, and rather than just report a single instance, report multiple snapshots. In one  example, the sensing Rx node is configured with receiving a periodic sensing signal (e.g., a DL RS) or a sensing signal including transmission at multiple (time) instances. Furthermore, the sensing Rx node is configured with detection of a path relevant for sensing (e.g., according to a minimum path power threshold for a path parameter of AOA, ZOA and TOA being defined according to indicated value ranges) . Furthermore, the sensing Rx node is configured with multiple reporting occasions. In some implementations, the measurement node (i.e., the sensing Rx node) is further indicated with a measurement time window or a time reference (e.g., including one or multiple sensing signal time instances) for which (i.e., for the sensing signal associated with the measurement time window or according to an indicated time reference) the sensing Rx node shall perform measurement, check an indicated path filter, type, or condition, generate a report, or a combination thereof.

[0105] In some implementations, the generated report of the detected path and / or path measurements include a time stamp or window of the conducted measurement (e.g., one or multiple instances of the sensing signal by which the reported path measurement is performed) . In some such implementations, upon detection of a signal path as configured or described with an energy above the threshold (or upon determination that an indicated or configured path filter or condition holds) , the sensing Rx node or the SensMF determines a closest reporting occasion for which the report can be generated and transmitted, and transmits the report on the detected path and / or the measurements conducted on the signal path responsive to the identified path type. In some implementations, upon detection of multiple paths (e.g., as configured or described with energy or TOA variance being above the threshold) , the sensing Rx node determines the number of reporting occasions for which the report can be generated and transmitted, and transmits the report on the detected paths and / or the measurements conducted on the signal path responsive to the identified path type.

[0106] In some implementations, when additional measurements are conducted subsequent to a determination of a detected relevant sensing path being of a particular path type (e.g., a path type for which additional measurements and reporting are configured to be done by the sensing Rx node, such as a signal path being of a specular reflection type with a single order reflection for which the sensing Rx node, upon capability, is pre-configured to further measure the received signal carrier phase or difference of carrier phase) , the sensing Rx node sends a report of the conducted additional measurements at a different reporting occasion than the reporting occasion which carries the indication of the signal path being detected. In some other implementations, when additional measurements are conducted subsequent to a determination of  a detected relevant sensing path being of a particular path type, the indication of the path is detected, and the additional measurement quantities are jointly reported at a reporting occasion when a joint report can be generated.

[0107] In some implementations, the sensing Rx node is configured or pre-configured to store performed measurements on the received signal or paths for a given period of time, also when the received paths do not match the defined or indicated path filter or type for some of the sensing signal reception instances (e.g. the energy or power of the paths which follow a given delay, AOA, ZOA range are below a given threshold) or when the detected received paths match a second path filter or criteria for storing of the path measurements or parameters (e.g., the detected path parameter is not high enough to be reported by a large enough to be stored or remembered for potential future measurement and reporting) . In some examples, when the sensing Rx node determines a path match of an indicated filter or type based on at least one instance of the sensing signal reception, then the sensing Rx node generates and transmits a report from all received instances of the sensing signal for the signal path (e.g., reports on only the measured path parameters at the instances where the received energy is above a threshold, but reports the path parameters for all instances of receiving the sensing signal) .

[0108] In some implementations, the identification of a signal path being associated with a specular reflection is determined based on one or more of the energy ratio of the signal path among the group of paths which are determined to be associated with the same reflector object and / or being in a close distance (e.g., smaller than a threshold) to the path (in some of the path parameters (e.g., a delay, doppler shift, AOA, ZOA) being higher than a threshold. The known surface orientation of the reflector, position of the sensing Tx node and the sensing Rx node according to which the incident and reflected angles can be estimated. An AI / ML computational model used to determine the path type as being associated with a specular reflection.

[0109] In some implementations, when the reporting or indication of a detected path and / or an associated path type and / or path measurement is done (e.g., by the sensing Rx node to the SensMF or by the SensMF to the sensing Rx node) , then the signal path is reported or indicated via a path ID. In some such examples, the path ID is determined by the sensing Rx node upon path detection and reporting. In some examples, the path ID is determined and / or assigned by the SensMF, based on the received reports from one or more sensing Rx nodes and one or more sensing Tx nodes. In some such examples, the path ID includes two or multiple parts. or is generated (at the sensing Rx node, at the SensMF, or combination thereof) based on a combination of the two or multiple parts, such as including one or more of one part of the path  ID is determined as an ID of a signal path among the detected paths by the sensing Rx node based on reception and measurement of a sensing signal, or one part of the ID is determined by the sensing signal and / or the Tx point of a sensing signal, or one part of the ID is determined by the ID of the sensing Rx node and / or the sensing Rx beam or antenna port by which the path is detected.

[0110] In one or more implementations, the identification and detection of a signal path as being a relative sensing path and / or one or more of the associated path types are done at the sensing Rx node and / or at the SensMF via utilization of a computational AI / ML model (e.g., the model specific to identification of the one or more path types or a more general model for identifying a signal path as being a relevant sensing path (e.g., for reporting of the path by the sensing Rx node) . In some implementations, at least one or more of the model input information and / or the model inference output information are according to the input / output information, as indicated in the Table below. The table below indicates the possible information fields relevant to the AI / ML model, both for the model operating on the SensMF side and the model running on the sensing Rx side. However, the models located at the sensing Rx node and on the SensMF side may at least include a different subset or selection of the information as indicated in the Table (which is given as an example) .

[0111] Table: Potential model input / output description for the determination of a sensing path type

[0112] In one or more implementations, information on the verified or correct path types are received by the sensing Rx node from the SensMF. In some implementations, upon detection and reporting of a path (as being an identified path type) by the sensing Rx node, the sensing Rx node stores the conducted measurements, received signals, and / or the model input information, for an indicated or assumed period of time, where the sensing Rx node is indicated to store the measurements and / or parameters, or the sensing Rx node is indicated that a feedback or correction of the reported measurements by the sensing Rx node to the SensMF will be sent by the SensMF, and the sensing Rx node determines to store the performed measurements and configurations, received signals etc. Subsequent to the report being received by the SensMF, the SensMF determines the correct, true, or accurate path type of the reported path by the sensing Rx node, such as via collection and processing of multiple reports from multiple sensing instances or multiple sensing Rx nodes, or via utilizing additional context information of the sensing operation available at the SensMF including (e.g., the Tx / Rx position and / or mobility pattern, the background channel or environment objects within the channel impacting the reception signal at the sensing Rx node, or a combination thereof) and transmits an indication of one or more of the verified or corrected path types and / or measurement values received from the sensing Rx node, a correction or error information of the path type and / or measurement values received from the sensing Rx node, an indication as to whether the reported path type by the sensing Rx node is correct or incorrect, a measure of confidence or probability of the correctness of the SensMF indication according to which the sensing Rx node shall assume the SensMF  indication as being correct and / or accurate. In some examples, the indication of the detected path type and measurement values being correct, incorrect, or the needed deviation or error is utilized by the sensing Rx node for the purpose of performance monitoring (as a measure of the model accuracy) or for future corrections (e.g., model training) .

[0113] In some examples, when the sensing Rx node has access to non-3GPP (or RAT-independent) sensing information (via a camera or other sensor input) , upon configuration for performing a sensing measurement (e.g., including a path or channel sample measurement of a path associated with an indicated path filter or condition, or including identification of a path as a specular single order reflection path) , the sensing Rx node utilizes the obtained RAT-independent measurement and / or information to augment the configured sensing measurement report (as a separate reporting quantity, or after combining and / or fusing the obtained measurement with the RAT-independent information (e.g., via an AI / ML model which may be indicated to or by or known by the SensMF, or merely based on the sensing Rx node implementation) , indicate reports for one or more of the availability, type, and accuracy or quality, of content of the RAT-independent sensing information or capability to obtain such information (within a time window) to the SensMF.
