Description

Rust inhibitor composition

[0001] The present invention relates to a rust inhibitor composition.

[0002] Metals such as iron, copper, and aluminum are processed and used in industrial products in a variety of fields. Because metals are easily oxidized by oxygen in the air and rust easily, rust prevention treatments are generally applied to the metal surfaces of articles having metal parts (hereinafter also referred to as "metal articles"), such as by applying an oil-based rust inhibitor such as rust-preventive oil (for example, JP 2020-164987 A).

[0003] The present invention provides a rust inhibitor composition containing an amine (component A), a salt (component B') of component A with a dicarboxylic acid (component B) having from 6 to 22 carbon atoms, a salt (component C') of component A with a monocarboxylic acid (component C) having from 8 to 21 carbon atoms, a salt (component D') of component A with a monocarboxylic acid (component D) having from 9 to 22 carbon atoms and having a carbon number greater than that of component C, and water (component E).

[0004] The present invention also provides a rust inhibitor composition comprising an amine (component A), a dicarboxylic acid having 6 to 22 carbon atoms (component B), a monocarboxylic acid having 8 to 21 carbon atoms (component C), a monocarboxylic acid having 9 to 22 carbon atoms (component D) which has a carbon number greater than that of component C, and water (component E).

[0005] The present invention also provides a method for producing an article, comprising a rust prevention step of forming an anti-rust coating derived from the rust inhibitor composition on the metal surface of the metal article.

[0006] The present invention also provides a method for preventing rust on an article, comprising a rust prevention step of forming a rust-preventive coating derived from the rust inhibitor composition on the metal surface of the metal article. Detailed Description of the Invention

[0007] Generally, oil-based rust inhibitors have high rust-preventing properties, but when a metal article is treated with an oil-based rust inhibitor for rust prevention, it is necessary to remove any unnecessary oil-based rust inhibitor from the metal surface of the metal article immediately before work in a process subsequent to the process in which the rust prevention treatment was performed (for example, an assembly process in which the metal article is used as a part of a component, hereinafter also referred to simply as a subsequent process), which increases the number of work steps.

[0008] To address this issue, one possible solution is to use a water-based rust inhibitor that can form a rust-preventive coating that does not need to be removed before subsequent work.

[0009] Metal articles that have been subjected to rust prevention treatment are often transported or stored for long periods of time. However, because the rust prevention performance of rust prevention coatings formed from conventional water-based rust inhibitors is insufficient, rust may develop on the surface of metal articles that have rust prevention coatings formed from conventional water-based rust inhibitors when transported for long periods of time.

[0010] Furthermore, because conventional aqueous rust inhibitors have high viscosity, liquid aqueous rust inhibitors may remain on the surface of metal articles subjected to subsequent processes. If the metal articles are subjected to subsequent processes with liquid aqueous rust inhibitor remaining on their surfaces, this is undesirable because it can cause operational defects in the subsequent processes and cause quality defects in products that include the metal articles as components.

[0011] An object of the present invention is to provide a rust inhibitor composition that has high rust prevention performance but low viscosity and is unlikely to remain in a liquid state on the surface of a metal article, as well as a method for producing an article that can impart high rust prevention performance to a metal article, and a method for rust prevention of an article.

[0012] The inventors discovered that the packing properties of components related to the liquid viscosity can be controlled by the combination of fatty acids, and gained the knowledge that the viscosity of the liquid can be suppressed while maintaining high rust-preventing performance by using a specific combination of carboxylic acids, thereby completing the present invention.

[0013] The present invention provides a rust inhibitor composition containing an amine (component A), a salt (component B') of component A with a dicarboxylic acid (component B) having from 6 to 22 carbon atoms, a salt (component C') of component A with a monocarboxylic acid (component C) having from 8 to 21 carbon atoms, a salt (component D') of component A with a monocarboxylic acid (component D) having from 9 to 22 carbon atoms and having a carbon number greater than that of component C, and water (component E).

[0014] The present invention also provides a rust inhibitor composition comprising an amine (component A), a dicarboxylic acid having 6 to 22 carbon atoms (component B), a monocarboxylic acid having 8 to 21 carbon atoms (component C), a monocarboxylic acid having 9 to 22 carbon atoms (component D) which has a carbon number greater than that of component C, and water (component E).

[0015] The present invention also provides a method for producing an article, comprising a rust prevention step of forming an anti-rust coating derived from the rust inhibitor composition on the metal surface of the metal article.

[0016] The present invention also provides a method for preventing rust on an article, comprising a rust prevention step of forming a rust-preventive coating derived from the rust inhibitor composition on the metal surface of the metal article.

[0082] Examples 1 to 10 and Comparative Examples 1 and 2 Preparation of Rust Preventive Compositions Rust preventive compositions were prepared by blending the raw materials listed in Table 1. The content of each component was calculated from the blended amount of the raw materials. The contents of Component A, Component B', Component C', and Component D' were calculated on the assumption that all of the carboxy groups of the blended Components B, C, and D were bonded to Component A via ionic bonds.

[0083] The components shown in Table 1 were as follows: (Amines) Triethanolamine: 2,2',2"-nitrilotriethanol, manufactured by Kishida Chemical Co., Ltd. Diisopropanolamine: Tokyo Chemical Industry Co., Ltd. 3-Methoxypropylamine: Fujifilm Wako Pure Chemical Industries, Ltd. (Dicarboxylic acids) 1,10-Decanedicarboxylic acid: Tokyo Chemical Industry Co., Ltd. (number of carbon atoms: 12) (Monocarboxylic acids) Palmitic acid: Lunac P-95, manufactured by Kao Corporation (number of carbon atoms: 16) Myristic acid: Lunac MY-98, manufactured by Kao Corporation (number of carbon atoms: 14) Lauric acid: Lunac L-98, manufactured by Kao Corporation (number of carbon atoms: 12) Caprylic acid: Lunac 8-98, manufactured by Kao Corporation (number of carbon atoms: 8) Oleic acid: Oleic acid (number of carbon atoms: 18), manufactured by Nacalai Tesque, Inc. [0084] [Evaluation Method] [Measurement of pH] The pH of the rust inhibitor composition at a liquid temperature of 25°C was measured using a pH electrode (HM-30G, manufactured by DKK-TOA Corporation).

[0085] [Accelerated Rust Prevention Test] 100 g of the rust inhibitor composition was added to a 100 mL glass beaker, and a steel plate (SPCC, 50 mm x 50 mm x 0.8 mm) that had been degreased and washed with acetone was immersed in the rust inhibitor composition for 30 seconds. The steel plate was removed and dried by air blowing. The substrate was placed upright in a 30 L polypropylene box-type container, which is intended as a returnable box for transporting metal articles, and the container was placed in a high-temperature, high-humidity chamber set at a temperature of 60°C and a humidity of 95% RH. The steel plate surface was visually observed every 12 hours, and the time until rust appeared on the steel plate was measured.

[0086] [Measurement of Viscosity] 100 mL of each solution of the Examples and Comparative Examples was left to stand for 30 minutes at 25° C., and then measured using a Brookfield viscometer. The lower the viscosity, the less likely it is to remain in liquid form on the surface of a metal article.

[0087] The evaluation results are shown in Table 1.
