Abstract
Description
[0001] PORTABLE ADHESIVE TAPE DISPENSER.
[0002] FIELD OF INVENTION.
[0003] This invention relates to manual or automatic devices used to dispense or dose a given quantity of tape, with or without adhesive, made from any material of organic, inorganic or synthetic origin.
[0004] PURPOSE OF THE INVENTION.
[0005] The objective of this invention is to offer a manual tape dispenser that is compact, portable, lightweight and scalable, that can be installed on a tape reel and allows a user to dispense it easily and quickly, being able to store it in a small space when not in use.
[0006] BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION.
[0007] Adhesive tape on a reel was invented by Dr. Horace Day in 1845 to make his patients' treatment easier. The development and use of adhesive tape has grown to encompass all human activities.
[0008] Numerous inventions have been developed that allow the issuance or dosing of these tapes. There are manual and automatic devices, the latter primarily powered by electricity. The operating principle is practically the same in all of them, with only a few differences. Examples of these inventions are patents US 8215527B2, JPH1081443A, CN205274854, and JP2006151680A.
[0009] JP2011136832A, US2447518, US3283977, US5490642, US6848489,
[0010] US7841498, US20100193539, US20130087275, 379755.
[0011] The operating principle is as follows: the reel is encouraged to rotate around its center and deliver a certain amount of tape. At one end of the device, a cutting element with a saw-like profile tears and detaches the required amount of tape. Another element prevents the reel of tape from rotating in the opposite direction. Finally, the end of the tape is retained or attached to some element to allow it to be easily taken up again.
[0012] The operational problem with virtually all manual tape dispensers is that none of them have construction elements that allow them to grip onto a user's clothing or uniform. Additionally, simple devices operate erratically, only partially fulfilling their intended functions of dispensing and cutting tape. The more complete ones are truly complicated, composed of a multitude of parts that make them heavy, non-portable, and difficult to operate, transport, or manipulate. In all of them, the operation is crude and sometimes difficult to carry out, especially when the position of the device for applying adhesive tape is awkward. Great force is required, as well as rotating wrist movements, to cut the tape, since sometimes the orientation of the tape and the blade are the same, forcing the operator to rotate the device ninety degrees to cut it.When these situations arise, a large percentage of the total operating time is spent cutting the tape, and in many cases, it comes off roughly, leaving an unsightly appearance.
[0013] The following is a novel manual and portable device for dispensing tape, with or without adhesive, made of only 5 elements, configured for the dispatch and cutting of tape, and an additional element to grip the user's clothing without interfering with the operation of its main purpose, which is portable, comfortable, safe and functional, its operation is carried out easily and quickly, unlike all the others, the novel mechanical configuration of this invention allows the cutting element to be the one that approaches the tape for its cutting and detachment (and not the other way around as occurs in all cases), this is executed by the retractable movement of the operator's thumb and complemented by a rotary movement of his wrist. This novel configuration will be the same regardless of the width of the tape to be dispensed.

[0053] A novel adhesive tape dispenser or dosing device is presented, which is composed of 5 elements, these are:
[0054] A Handle (1); A single-wire arm (2); A support thimble (3); A folding palette (4); and A serrated knife (5). Wherein, the Handle (1) is characterized by being a semi-cylindrical horseshoe-shaped element with a transverse perforation (13), which at one end of said perforation has a compartment (14) that houses a torsion spring (6), this has transversely at the ends of its outer face, two semi-cylindrical adjustment ribs (11) to firmly grip the inner cylindrical surface of a conventional tape reel; said Handle (1) has in its upper part a recess, preferably rectangular (33), where the end of a hook-shaped hanger (28) or a flexible hanging cord (32) sits and is fixed, making it portable by being able to grip the clothing or uniform of an operator;said Handle (1) also has three ergonomic transverse channels (12) on its inner face to be firmly gripped by the fingers of an operator; said Handle (1) is placed on the inner contour of a tape reel (18), allowing the latter to rotate concentrically on the first when the tape is dispensed;
[0055] The single-wire arm (2) is an "V" arch-shaped element, characterized by being a monofilament (made of a single piece) which is shaped to generate, transversely to it, two rotation axes and two transverse supports, where all the necessary elements are installed, in the configuration of this invention, to carry out the dispatch and tape cutting operations; the first rotation axis (8), formed in said monofilament, pivots in the transverse perforation (13) of the Maneral (1) is secured at its end by a mechanical lock (31), and is folded down by the torsion spring (6) located coaxially to said first axis and housed inside said transverse perforation, precisely in the compartment (14), concentric to the transverse perforation (13) of the Maneral (1);then, on said single-wire arm, the two transverse supports (9) are formed, contiguous and parallel to each other, whose ends end forming an eyebrow (27) at a right angle to box the outer circumference of a tape reel (18); embedded between said transverse and parallel supports (9) a support thimble (3) is installed; then the second transverse rotation axis (10) is formed on said monofilament, where a folding blade (4) pivots, finally, at the end of said single-wire arm (2), on the support posts (23) a serrated blade (5) is placed transversely in an orthogonal and cantilever position;
[0056] The support thimble (3) is an element characterized by being a bar, the upper middle section of which has a concave section (16) along its length for the support of an operator's thumb; which internally has, along its length, two interlocking channels (15) that are fitted into the two transverse supports (9) of a single-wire arm (2), obtaining a transverse position to the single-wire arm; likewise, its lower section (17) is convex and rests on the outer cylindrical surface of the tape reel (18) to limit its movement.
[0057] The folding paddle (4) is used for lifting the tape after the cutting operation, since it has a relative position with respect to the line of the single-line arm (2) of approximately 45 degrees, a position that is limited by its two limiting bars (25) that act on said single-line arm (2); it is characterized by being a rectangular piece in the shape of a "U" with an oblong duct (26) along one of its sides; said oblong duct (26) fits into the second rotation axis (10) formed in the single-line arm (2), on which it rotates; the upper surface of said folding paddle (4) is smooth, to allow the adhesion of the adhesive tape; said surface has a circular, convex contour, which has a "U" shaped recess on the side opposite the oblong duct (26), to allow the operator to take one end of the tape (19) with ease;the oblong duct (26) is interrupted in the middle part of the side of said folding blade (4) by a window (20) that houses, concentrically to said oblong duct (26), a torsion spring (7), which allows said folding blade (4) to return to its original position after being folded; additionally, said folding blade (4) has two angular movement limiting bars (25) at the ends of said oblong duct (26).
[0058] The serrated knife (5) is characterized by being a rectangular element with a serrated upper edge (29), at the center of its lower edge it has an opening (22) that allows the passage of the end of a torsion spring (7) that activates a folding paddle (4); it has a strip-shaped extension (21) at each of its two ends that serve to be installed transversely, in an orthogonal position, and in cantilever, at the end of a single-wire arm (2), being held only by its strip-shaped extreme extensions (21), which are screwed around each of the support posts (23) formed in a single-wire arm (2) in said position.
[0059] EXAMPLE OF OPERATION OF THE MECHANICAL CONFIGURATION OF THIS INVENTION, WHEN DISPATCHING AND CUTTING A SECTION OF TAPE.
[0060] The portable adhesive tape dispenser of the present invention is installed on a conventional tape reel and is operated as follows:
[0061] By folding up the single-wire arm (2), the handle (1) is introduced (inside) a reel of tape (18), allowing the end of the tape (19) to pass through the opening (24) located in the single-wire arm (2), upon releasing the single-wire arm (2), the pressure exerted by the torsion spring (7) on it will keep the reel of tape firm and steady.
[0062] (18) , also the eyebrow (27) , located at the ends of the supports (9) of the single-wire arm (2) , and the adhesive substance of the tape on the smooth and curved surface of the folding paddle (4) , contribute to achieving the firmness of the dispenser once mounted on said tape reel (18) . The operator positions three fingers of his hand in the ergonomic channels of the Handle (1) and the thumb positions it in the support thimble (3) ; through the recess formed in the "U" shaped surface of the folding Paddle (4) the operator will (easily) take the end of the tape (19) applying tension to it to unwind it from the reel, thus, (initially) the tape will come off said smooth and curved surface of the folding Paddle (4) and (later) will allow it to unwind from the tape reel in a controlled manner, since the lower section of the support Thimble (3) applies continuous pressure to the outer surface of said tape reel,This will rotate freely on the semi-cylindrical Handle (1) that serves as its axis of rotation, when wanting to detach the end of the dispatched tape, the operator will pull the single-wire arm (2) towards him, through a force or pressure that the thumb will exert on the support thimble (3) that, when pivoted in the transverse hole of the Handle (1), said force or pressure is translated into a rotation (lifting) of the single-wire arm (2) with respect to the tape reel (18), with this, both the folding palette (4) and the tape attached to it are folded, with this movement the serrated blade (5) will approach the tape cutting it, this will rise again after the cutting operation since it remains attached to the folding palette (4) that returns (rotates) to its original position by the action of the torsion spring (7). The rotational movement of the Folding Paddle (4), when folded, describes a rotation and retraction movement,since the tape adhered to its smooth and curved surface attracts it towards the support thimble (3) when it is folded down (because the relative linear dimension between the tape reel and the serrated blade (5) increases), the oblong duct (26) will allow it to absorb a part of this tension and achieve with certain freedom the folding rotational movement in the Palette, said tension generated in the tape supports and facilitates the cutting operation carried out by the serrated blade (5).
[0063] In an alternative version of this operation, the tape is cut by lifting the single-wire arm (2) with the operator's thumb, which pulls the support thimble (3), assisted by the rotational movement of the operator's wrist, which will bring the sharp blade (5) closer to the tape more quickly to remove it (cut it).
[0064] The configuration of the Hook-shaped Hanger (28) conveniently mounted on the Handle (1) allows the tape dispenser to be operated without any interference and enables it to be hung on an operator's garment or uniform making it portable, also this Hanger (28) allows it to be stored conveniently in a reduced space. Alternatively instead of a rigid Hook-shaped Hanger (28) a flexible Hanging Cord ( 32 ) is installed.
[0065] To manufacture this development, standard equipment used in manufacturing plants is required, such as steel bending machines, hydraulic presses, extruders, forming machines and injectors for both plastic and metal. The novel configuration of the parts and the operation of the mechanism as a whole described above are not described in any document of the world's state of the art, which gives them unique characteristics that are specific to this invention. However, having described their nature, forms and operation, those skilled in the art will appreciate that many variations and modifications can be devised without departing from the scope of the invention as described above.
