[0001] This application claims priority to United States Patent Application No. 63 / 565,349, filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office on March 14, 2024 and entitled “PUCCH SCHEDULING ON TWO-STAGE DCI FOR T-MIMO” , which is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety.TECHNICAL FIELD

[0002] Embodiments of the present application relate to the field of communications, and more specifically, to a communication method and a communication apparatus. For example, the communication method and the communication apparatus could be used in atwo-stagedownlink transmission or a two-stage sidelink transmission.BACKGROUND

[0003] In the present communication systems, both downlink and uplink control signalsare transmitted on single transmission layer over a time-frequency resource, and the time-frequency resource may normally be shared by multiple downlink control information (DCI) . As physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) scheduling is part of DCI scheduling physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) , even though semi-static configuration and dynamic indication are used together to provide some flexibility in PUCCH resources assignment, it still lacks of enough flexibility in resource allocation as compared with that of physical downlink control channel (PDSCH) or physical uplink control channel (PUSCH) , which could degrade its performance as well as cause more collisions.SUMMARY

[0004] Embodiments of the present application provide a communication method and a communication apparatus. The technical solutions mayimprove the performance and flexibility of the uplink control signal scheduling.

[0005] According to a first aspect, a communication method is described. The method may be applied at a terminal side, for example, a terminal or a module in a terminal, a circuit or a chip (for example, a modem (modem) chip, also referred to as a baseband (baseband) chip, or a system on chip (system on chip, SoC) chip or a system in package (system in package, SIP) chip that includes a modem core) that is responsible for a communication function in a terminal. For example,  the method is applied to a terminal, and the method includes: receiving a first downlink control information (DCI) , wherein the first DCI indicates a second DCI, the second DCI comprises a first information for scheduling uplink control signal transmission and a second information for scheduling data signal transmission, wherein the first information and the second information being carried on separate resources; and receiving the second DCI according to the first DCI.

[0006] In some embodiments, a resource of this application could be a set of physical resource blocks (PRBs) in frequency domain with one slot (or a number of OFDM symbols) in time domain on one or more transmission layers in spatial domain. For example, both of a layer#0 and a layer#1 have 2 PRBs, which are PRB#0 and PRB#1, resource#0 is set of the PRB#0 and the PRB#1 on the layer#0, resource#1 is set of the PRB#0 and the PRB#1 on the layer#1, wherein the resource#0 and the resource#1 are separated resources or different resources.

[0007] According to the above technical solution, more time-frequency resources may be utilized to transmit and / or receive the uplink control signal scheduling. That may greatly improve the performance and flexibility of the uplink control signal scheduling, especially the performance and flexibility of the PUCCH scheduling.

[0008] In some possible designs, the first information and the second information are carried on a first resource and a second resource respectively, wherein the first resource and the second resource are separated, and the possible designs include:

[0009] In a possible design, the first information and the second information are carried on a first resource and a second resource respectively, wherein the first resource and the second resource are multiplexed in a time domain multiplexing manner on a transmission layer.

[0011] In a possible design, the first information and the second information are carried on a first resource and a second resource respectively, wherein the first resource and the second resource are multiplexed in a frequency domain multiplexing manner on a transmission layer.

[0012] According to the above technical solution, the two resources carrying different information can be transmitted on the same or different range of time resource in a simple way, the second DCI can be configured easily by arranging the two resources in frequency domain carrying different information on a transmission layer.

[0013] In a possible design, the first information and the second information are carried on a first resource and a second resource respectively, wherein the first resource and the second resource are on different transmission layers.

[0014] According to the above technical solution, the two resources carrying different information can be transmitted  on the same time-frequency resource on two transmission layers in a simple way, the second DCI can be configured easily by arranging the two resources multiplexed on the same time-frequency resource carrying different information on two transmission layers.

[0015] In a possible design, the first information and the second information are carried on a first resource and a second resource respectively, wherein the first resource and the second resource are concatenating resources on one or more transmission layers.

[0016] According to the above technical solution, a complex second DCI can improve the efficiency of the resources for transmitting complex information on limited resources.

[0017] In a possible design, the first information and the second information are carried on a first resource and a second resource respectively and the first resource and the second resource are separated, and the method further comprises: receiving a first indication information indicating a resource set; receiving a second indication information indicating the first resource from the resource set and the second resource from the resource set.

[0018] According to the above technical solution, the first DCI is used for indicating the resources carrying the first information and the resources carrying the second information respectively, the first DCI possesses high flexibility.

[0020] According to the above technical solutions, transmission interval and latency of first indication information using higher layer signaling such as RRC is much longer than the transmission interval and latency of the second indication information using more dynamic signal such as DCI. However, the complexity impact of using higher signal such as RRC is much less than that of using dynamic signaling. Thus, using them in a more combined manner could reach a balance of performance and complexity impact.

[0021] In a possible design, the second indication information indicates a set of time units corresponding to the first resource or the second resource; or the second indication information indicates a set of physical resource blocks (PRBs) corresponding to the first resource or the second resource; or the second indication information indicates one or more transmission layers corresponding to the first resource or the second resource.

[0023] In a possible design, the first indication information is carried on radio resource control (RRC) signaling.

[0024] In a possible design, the second indication information is carried on the first DCI.

[0025] In a possible design, the first information is for scheduling physical uplink control channel transmission, the second information is for scheduling physical downlink shared channel transmission or physical uplink shared channel transmission.

[0026] According to the above technical solutions, the signaling and channels in common communication systems can be used in this communication method to improve the compatibility.

[0027] In a possible design, the first DCI further indicates the first information and the second information are carried on separate resources.

[0028] In a possible design, the method further comprises: receiving a third indication information indicating the first information and the second information are carried on separate resources.

[0029] According to a second aspect, a method may be applied to a network side, for example, a location server or a component (for example, a circuit, a chip, or a chip system) in a location server on a network side. For example, the method is applied to a location server, and the method includes: transmitting a first DCI, wherein the first DCI indicates a second DCI, the second DCI comprises a first information for scheduling uplink control signal transmission and a second information for scheduling data signal transmission, wherein the first information and the second information being carried on separate resources; and transmitting the second DCI.

[0070] Referring to FIG. 1, as an illustrative example, a simplified schematic illustration of a communication system is provided. The communication system 100 may comprise a radio access network 120. The radio access network (RAN) 120 may be a next generation (e.g. 6th generation (6G) or later) radio access network, or a legacy (e.g. 5th generation (5G) , 4th generation (4G) , 3th generation (3G) or 2nd generation (2G) ) radio access network. In some implementations, 6G radio access refers to a next generation air interface of standards which may comprise both terrestrial networks (TNs) and non-terrestrial networks (NTNs) , and more details will be described below. One or more communication electronic device (ED) 110a, 110b, 110c, 110d, 110e, 110f, 110g, 110h, 110i, 110j (generically referred to as 110) may be interconnected to one another or connected to one or more network nodes 170a, 170b (generically referred to as 170) in the RAN 120. A core network (CN) 130 may be a part of the communication system and may be dependent or independent of the radio access technology used in the communication system 100. The communication system 100 may also comprise a public switched telephone network (PSTN) 140, the internet 150, and other networks 160.

[0071] In general, the communication system 100 enables communication of multiple wireless or wired elements. The communication system 100 may provide content, such as voice, data, video, and / or text, via broadcast, multicast, groupcast, unicast, etc. The communication system 100 may operate by sharing resources, such as carrier spectrum bandwidth, among its constituent elements.

[0072] The communication system 100 may provide a wide range of communication services and applications including enhanced Mobile Broadband (eMBB) services, ultra-reliable low-latency communication (URLLC) services, massive machine type communication (mMTC) services, integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) , immersive communication, massive communication, Hyper reliable and low-latency communication, ubiquitous connectivity, integrated AI and communication, and other services that can be provided by a future generation communication system. The  communication system 100 may provide other services and applications such as earth monitoring, remote sensing, passive sensing and positioning, navigation and tracking, autonomous delivery and mobility, etc.

[0073] The communication system 100 may include a terrestrial communication system (or network) and / or a non-terrestrial communication system (or network) . The communication system 100 may provide a high degree of availability and robustness through a joint operation of a terrestrial communication system and a non-terrestrial communication system. For example, integrating a non-terrestrial communication system (or components thereof) into a terrestrial communication system can result in a heterogeneous network comprising multiple layers. The heterogeneous network may achieve better overall performance through efficient multi-link joint operation, more flexible functionality sharing, and faster physical layer link switching between terrestrial networks and non-terrestrial networks. The terrestrial communication system and the non-terrestrial communication system could be considered sub-systems of the communication system 100.

[0074] FIG. 2 illustrates another example for communication system 100. As described earlier, the communication system 100 may include ED 110a, 110b, 110c, 110d (generically referred to as ED 110) , RAN 120a, 120b, and one or more of a CN 130, a PSTN 140, the internet 150, and other networks 160. In addition, the communication system 100 may also include a non-terrestrial network (NTN) 120c. The RANs 120a, 120b may include respective network nodes 170a, 170b such as base stations 170a, 170b, which may be generically referred to as terrestrial network (TN) devices or terrestrial transmit and receive points (T-TRPs) 170a, 170b (generically referred to as 170) . As referred to herein, the terms “TRP” and “base station” may be used interchangeably unless explicitly noted otherwise in a given example or section. For brevity, this disclosure may primarily refer to base station; however, absent an explicit limitation, references to TRP are merely non-limiting instances of interchangeable use. The T-TRPs 170a, 170b may be base stations mounted on a building or tower. In one implementation, the NTN 120c includes a RAN node such as base station 172, which may be generically referred to as an NTN device, a non-terrestrial node, a non-terrestrial network device, a non-terrestrial base station, or a non-terrestrial transmit and receive point (NT-TRP) 172.

[0075] In some implementations, the NT-TRP 172 is not attached to the ground, for example, in the case of an airborne base station. An airborne base station may be implemented using communication equipment supported or carried by a flying device. For example, a flying device may include an airborne platform (e.g. a blimp or an airship) , balloon, drone (e.g. quadcopter) , and other types aerial vehicles. In some implementations, an airborne base station may be supported or carried by an unmanned aerial system (UAS) or an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) , such as a drone. An airborne base station may be a moveable or mobile base station that can be flexibly deployed in different locations to meet network demand. A satellite base station is another example of a non-terrestrial base station. A satellite base station may be implemented using  communication equipment supported or carried by a satellite. A satellite base station may also be referred to as an orbiting base station. High altitude platforms is yet another example of a non-terrestrial base station, including international mobile telecommunication base stations.

[0076] As referred to herein, and unless specified otherwise, a “TRP” may also refer to a T-TRP or a NT-TRP, a “T-TRP” may also refer to a “TN TRP” , and a “NT-TRP” may also refer to a “NTN TRP” . The NTN 120c may be considered to be a radio access network (RAN) , with operational aspects in common with the RANs 120a, 120b. The NTN 120c may include at least one NTN device and at least one corresponding terrestrial network device, the at least one NTN device may function as a transport layer device and the at least one corresponding terrestrial network device may function as a RAN node, which communicates with the ED 110 via the non-terrestrial network device. In addition, there may be a NTN gateway in the ground (i.e., referred as a terrestrial network device) also function as a transport layer device to communicate with both the NTN device and the RAN node. The RAN node may communicate with the ED 110 via the NTN device and the NTN gateway. In some implementations, the NTN gateway and the RAN node may be located in the same device.

[0089] The RANs 120a and 120b are in communication with the CN 130 to provide the EDs 110a 110b, and 110c with various services such as voice, data, and other services. The RANs 120a and 120b and / or the CN 130 may be in direct or indirect communication with one or more other RANs (not shown) , which may or may not be directly served by CN 130, and may or may not employ the same radio access technology as RAN 120a, RAN 120b or both. The CN 130 may also serve as a gateway access between (i) the RANs 120a and 120b or EDs 110a 110b, and 110c or both, and (ii) other networks (such as the PSTN 140, the Internet 150, and the other networks 160) . In addition, some or all of the EDs 110a 110b, and 110c may  include functionality for communicating with different wireless networks over different wireless links using different wireless technologies and / or protocols. Instead of wireless communication (or in addition thereto) , the EDs 110a 110b, and 110c may communicate via wired communication channels to a service provider or switch (not shown) , and to the Internet 150. PSTN 140 may include circuit switched telephone networks for providing plain old telephone service (POTS) . Internet 150 may include a network of computers and subnets (intranets) or both, and incorporate protocols, such as internet protocol (IP) , transmission control protocol (TCP) , user datagram protocol (UDP) . EDs 110a 110b, and 110c may be multimode devices capable of operation according to multiple radio access technologies, and incorporate multiple transceivers necessary to support such.

[0090] In addition, the communication system 100 may comprise a sensing agent (not shown) to manage the sensed data from ED 110 and / or any one of TRPs 170 a-170b, 172. In one implementation, the sensing agent may be part of any one of TRPs 170 a-b, 172. In another implementation, the sensing agent is a separate node that can communicate with the CN 130 and / or the RAN 120 (e.g., any one of TRPs 170 a-b, 172) .

[0091] FIG. 3 illustrates an example of an apparatus 310 wirelessly communicating with apparatus 320 in a communication system (e.g., the communication system 100) . The apparatus 310 may be an electronic device (e.g. ED 110) . The apparatus 320 may be a network node (e.g. network node 170) such as T-TRP 170 or a NT-TRP 172. Although there is only one apparatus 310, and one apparatus 320 shown in the figure, the number of apparatus 310 and / or 320 could be one or more. For example, one ED 110 may be served by only one T-TRP 170 (or one NT-TRP 172) , by more than one T-TRP 170 (or more than one NT-TRP 172) . One ED 110 may be served by one or more T-TRP 170 and one or more NT-TRP172. Similarly, one T-TRP 170 (or one NT-TRP172) may serve one or more ED 110.

[0093] The memory 208 stores instructions used to perform operations described herein. The memory 208 may also stores data used, generated, or collected by the apparatus 310. For example, the memory 208 could store software instructions or modules configured to implement some or all of the functionality and / or embodiments described herein and that are executed by one or more processor 210.

[0094] The apparatus 310 may further include one or more input / output devices (not shown) or interfaces. The input / output devices or interfaces permit interaction with a user or other devices in the network. Each input / output device or interface includes any suitable structure for providing information to or receiving information from a user, and / or for network interface communications. Suitable structures include, for example, a speaker, microphone, keypad, keyboard, display, touch screen, etc.

[0095] The processor 210 may perform (or control the apparatus 310 to perform) operations (or methods) described herein as being performed by the apparatus 310. For example, the processor 210 performs or controls the apparatus 310 to perform receiving transport blocks (TBs) , using a resource for decoding of one of the received TBs, releasing the resource for decoding of another of the received TBs, and / or receiving configuration information configuring a resource. In detail, the operation may include those operations related to preparing a transmission for UL transmission to the apparatus 320; those operations related to processing DL transmissions received from the apparatus 320; and those operations related to processing SL transmission to and from another apparatus 310. Processing operations related to preparing a transmission for UL transmission may include operations such as encoding, modulating, transmit beamforming, and generating symbols for transmission. Processing operations related to processing DL transmissions may include operations such as receive beamforming, demodulating and decoding received symbols. Processing operations related to processing SL transmissions may include operations such as transmit / receive beamforming, modulating / demodulating and encoding / decoding symbols. Depending upon the embodiment, a DL transmission may be received by the receiver 203, possibly using receive beamforming, and the processor 210 may extract signaling from the DL transmission (e.g. by detecting and / or decoding the signaling) . An example of signaling may be a reference signal transmitted by the apparatus 320. In some implementations, the processor 210 implements the transmit beamforming and / or the receive beamforming based on the indication of beam direction, e.g. beam angle information (BAI) , received from the apparatus 320. In some implementations, the processor 210 may perform operations relating to network access (e.g. initial access) and / or downlink synchronization, such as operations relating to detecting a synchronization sequence, decoding and obtaining the system information, etc. In some implementations, the processor 210 may perform channel estimation, e.g. using a reference signal received from the apparatus 320.

[0096] Although not illustrated, the processor 210 may form part of the transmitter 201 and / or part of the receiver 203. Although not illustrated, the memory 208 may form part of the processor 210.

[0097] The processor 210, the processing components of the transmitter 201, and the processing components of the receiver 203 may each be implemented by the same or different one or more processors that are configured to execute instructions stored in a memory (e.g. in the memory 208) .

[0098] The apparatus 320 includes one or more processors 260 (only one processor 260 is illustrated to in the figure) . The apparatus 320 may further include at least one transmitter 252 and at least one receiver 254 coupled to one or more antennas 256. Only one antenna 256 is illustrated to avoid congestion in the drawing. One, some, or all of the antennas 256 may alternatively be panels. The transmitter 252 and the receiver 254 may be integrated as a transceiver. The apparatus 320 may further include at least one memory 258. The apparatus 320 may further include scheduler 253. Only the transmitter 252, receiver 254, processor 260, memory 258, antenna 256 and scheduler 253 are illustrated for simplicity, but the apparatus 320 may include one or more other components. In present disclosure, the transceiver (or transmitter 252 and / or receiver254) may be viewed as an interface circuit.

[0099] In some implementations, the parts of the apparatus 320 may be distributed. For example, some of the modules of the apparatus 320 may be located remote from the equipment that houses the antennas 256 for the apparatus 320 (thereby also can be viewed as one of more nodes) , and may be coupled to the equipment that houses the antennas 256 over a communication link (not shown) sometimes known as front haul, such as common public radio interface (CPRI) . Therefore, in some implementations, the term apparatus 320 may also refer to nodes on the network side that perform processing operations, such as determining the location of the apparatus 310, resource allocation (scheduling) , message generation, and encoding / decoding, and that are not necessarily part of the equipment that houses the antennas 256 of the apparatus 320. The nodes may also be coupled to other apparatus 320s. In some implementations, the apparatus 320 may actually be a plurality of nodes that are operating together to serve the apparatus 310, e.g. through the use of coordinated multipoint transmissions, or the use of ORAN system as described above in the application.

[0100] The processor 260 performs operations including those related to: preparing a transmission for DL transmission to the apparatus 310, processing an UL transmission received from the apparatus 310, preparing a transmission for backhaul transmission to another apparatus 320, and processing a transmission received over backhaul from another apparatus 320. Processing operations related to preparing a transmission for DL or backhaul transmission may include operations such as encoding, modulating, precoding (e.g. multiple input multiple output (MIMO) precoding) , transmit beamforming, and generating symbols for transmission. Processing operations related to processing received transmissions in the UL or over backhaul may include operations such as receive beamforming, demodulating received symbols, and  decoding received symbols. The processor 260 may also perform operations relating to network access (e.g. initial access) and / or DL synchronization, such as generating the content of synchronization signal blocks (SSBs) , generating the system information, etc. In some implementations, the processor 260 also generates an indication of beam direction, e.g. BAI, which may be scheduled for transmission by a scheduler 253 which will be described below. In some implementations, the processor 276 implements the transmit beamforming and / or receive beamforming based on beam direction information (e.g. BAI) received from another apparatus 320. The processor 260 performs other network side processing operations described herein, such as determining the location of the apparatus 310, determining where to deploy another apparatus 320, etc. In some implementations, the processor 260 may generate signaling, e.g. to configure one or more parameters of the apparatus 310 and / or one or more parameters of another apparatus 320. Any signaling generated by the processor 260 is sent by the transmitter 252. In some implementations, the apparatus 320 implements physical layer processing. In some implementations, the apparatus 320 may implement higher layer functions such as functions at the medium access control (MAC) or radio link control (RLC) layer in addition to physical layer processing. The apparatus 320 may further comprise scheduler 253 coupled to the processor 260 or integrated in the processor 260. The scheduler 253 may be included within or operated separately from the apparatus 320a. The scheduler 253 may schedule UL, DL, SL, and / or backhaul transmissions, including issuing scheduling grants and / or configuring scheduling-free (e.g., “configured grant” ) resources.

[0101] The apparatus 320a may further includes a memory 258 storing instructions used to perform operations described herein. The memory 258 may also stores data used, generated, or collected by the apparatus 320a. For example, the memory 258 could store software instructions or modules configured to implement some or all of the functionality and / or embodiments described herein and that are executed by the processor 260.

[0102] Although not illustrated, the processor 260 may form part of the transmitter 252 and / or part of the receiver 254. Also, although not illustrated, the processor 260 may implement the scheduler 253. Although not illustrated, the memory 258 may form part of the processor 260.

[0103] The processor 260, the scheduler 253, the processing components of the transmitter 252, and the processing components of the receiver 254 may each be implemented by the same or different one or more processors that are configured to execute instructions stored in a memory, e.g. in the memory 258.

[0104] The apparatus 320 and / or the apparatus 310 may include other components, but these have been omitted for the sake of clarity.

[0105] Note that “signaling” , as used herein, may alternatively be called control signaling, control message, control information, or message for simplicity. Signaling between a base station (e.g., the TRP 170a-b, 172) and a UE or sensing device (e.g., ED 110) , or signaling between a different UE or sensing device (e.g., between ED 110a and ED110b) may be  carried in physical layer signaling (also called as dynamic signaling) , which is transmitted in a physical layer control channel. For DL, the physical layer signaling may be known as downlink control information (DCI) which is transmitted in a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) . For UL, the physical layer signaling may be known as uplink control information (UCI) which is transmitted in a physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) . For SL, signaling between different UEs or sensing devices (e.g., between ED 110a and ED110b) may be known as SL control information (SCI) which is transmitted in a physical sidelink control channel (PSCCH) . Signaling may be carried in a higher layer (e.g., higher than physical layer) signaling, which is transmitted in a physical layer data channel, e.g. in a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) for downlink signaling, in a physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) for uplink signaling, and in a physical sidelink shared channel (PSSCH) for SL signaling. Higher layer signaling may also be called static signaling, or semi-static signaling. Higherlayer signaling may be radio resource control (RRC) protocol signaling or media access control -control element (MAC-CE) signaling. Signaling may be included in a combination of physical layer signaling and higher layer signaling.

[0106] It should be noted that in present application, “information” , when different from “message” , may be carried in one single message, or be carried in more than one separate message.

[0107] FIG. 4 illustrates an example of an apparatus 410. The apparatus 410 may be a communication device or an apparatus implemented in a communication device such as ED 110 or TRPs 170a-170b, 172. For example, the apparatus implemented in a communication device may be an integrated circuit, which in some contexts may be known by other colloquial names, such as chip, modem, modem chip, baseband chip, or baseband processor. In some implementations, one or more integrated circuits can be packaged into a system-on-chip, a system-in-package, or a multi-chip module. The apparatus may comprise one or more integrated circuits or comprise one or more integrated circuits and other discrete components. In some implementations, the apparatus 410 may be a module in ED 110, or apparatus 310. In some implementations, the apparatus 410 may be a module in one of TRPs 170a-170b, 172, or apparatus 320.

[0108] In an example, the apparatus 410 may include one or more processors / processor cores 411, and an interface circuit 412. The apparatus 410 may further include a memory 413. The one or more processors / processor cores 411 are configured to process signals and execute one or more communication protocols. The memory 413 is configured to store at least a part of corresponding computer program instructions and / or data. In an example, the one or more processors (or processor cores) 411 execute the computer program instructions stored in the memory 413 to implement related operations (for example, inputting, outputting, receiving, and transmitting) in the foregoing method embodiments. In some implementations, the memory 413 being configured to store the corresponding computer program instructions and / or data may mean that the memory 413 is configured to store all of the corresponding computer program instructions and / or data for execution by the one or more processors / processor cores 411. In some implementations, the memory 413 being configured to  store the corresponding computer program instructions and / or data may mean that the memory 413 is configured to store a part of the corresponding computer program instructions and / or data. For example, the part of the corresponding computer program instructions and / or data include computer program instructions and / or data that need to be currently executed by the one or more processors / processor cores 411. Thus, the memory 413 may store different parts of computer program instructions and / or data for a plurality times for the one or more processors (or processor cores) 411 to perform related operations in the foregoing method embodiments. As a communication interface, the interface circuit 412 is configured to implement communication with another component. For example, the interface circuit 412 may communicate a signal with other apparatus / system such as a radio frequency processing apparatus, or processor system. Optionally, to reduce a load of the processor core, a baseband signal processing circuit 414 may be also disposed to implement processing of at least a part of baseband signals, including signal demodulation, modulation, encoding, decoding, or the like.

[0109] Apparatus 410 may be processor 210 (or 260) in apparatus 310 (or 320) , in some scenario, or included in processor 210 (or 260) in apparatus 310 (or 320) in some scenario. Apparatus 410 may be or include a baseband chip. In some implementations, the apparatus 410 may be independently packaged into a chip. In some implementations, the apparatus 310 (or 320) includes different types of chips. The apparatus 410 may be packaged into a processor chip (for example, a SoC chip or an SIP chip) with the different types of chips. In some implementations, the apparatus 410 may be packaged into a chip with some or all of circuits of a radio frequency processing system that may further included in the apparatus 310 (or 320) .

[0110] In the present disclosure, the terms “a” , “an” and “one” are defined to mean “at least one” , that is, these terms do not exclude a plural number of items, unless stated otherwise.

[0111] In the present disclosure, terms such as “substantially” , “generally” and “about” , which modify a value, condition or characteristic of a feature of an exemplary embodiment, should be understood to mean that the value, condition or characteristic is defined within tolerances that are acceptable for the proper operation of this exemplary embodiment for its intended application.

[0112] In the present disclosure, unless stated otherwise, the terms “connected” and “coupled” , and derivatives and variants thereof, refer herein to any structural or functional connection or coupling, either direct or indirect, between two or more elements. For example, the connection or coupling between the elements can be acoustical, mechanical, optical, electrical, thermal, logical, or any combinations thereof.

[0113] In the present disclosure, expressions such as “match” , “matching” and “matched” , including variants and derivatives thereof, are intended to refer herein to a condition in which two or more elements are either the same or within some predetermined tolerance of each other. That is, these terms are meant to encompass not only “exactly” or “identically”  matching the two elements but also “substantially” , “approximately” or “subjectively” matching the two or more elements, as well as providing a higher or best match among a plurality of matching possibilities.

[0114] In the present disclosure, the expression “based on” is intended to mean “based at least partly on” , that is, this expression can mean “based solely on” or “based partially on” , and so should not be interpreted in a limited manner. More particularly, the expression “based on” could also be understood as meaning “depending on” , “representative of” , “indicative of”, “associated with” or similar expressions.

[0115] In the present disclosure, the terms "system" and "network" may be used interchangeably in embodiments of this application. "At least one" means one or more, and "a plurality of" means two or more. The term "and / or" describes an association relationship of associated objects, and indicates that three relationships may exist. For example, A and / or B may indicate the following three cases: Only A exists, both A and B exist, and only B exists, where A and B may be singular or plural. The character " / " usually indicates an "or" relationship between associated objects. "At least one of the following items (pieces) " or a similar expression thereof indicates any combination of these items, including a single item (piece) or any combination of a plurality of items (pieces) . For example, "at least one of A, B, or C" includes A, B, C, A and B, A and C, B and C, or A, B, and C, and "at least one of A, B, and C" may also be understood as including A, B, C, A and B, A and C, B and C, or A, B, and C. In addition, unless otherwise specified, ordinal numbers such as "first" and "second" in embodiments of this application are used to distinguish between a plurality of objects, and are not used to limit a sequence, a time sequence, priorities, or importance of the plurality of objects.

[0116] A person skilled in the art should understand that embodiments of this application may be provided as a method, an appartus (or system) , computer-readable storage medium, or a computer program product. Therefore, this application may use a form of a hardware-only embodiment, a software-only embodiment, or an embodiment with a combination of software and hardware. Moreover, this application may use a form of a computer program product that is implemented on one or more computer-usable storage media (including but not limited to a disk memory, an optical memory, and the like) that include computer-usable program code.

[0117] This application is described with reference to the flowcharts and / or block diagrams of the method, the device (system) , and the computer program product according to this application. Generally, computer program instructions may be used to implement each process and / or each block in the flowcharts and / or the block diagrams and a combination of a process and / or a block in the flowcharts and / or the block diagrams. The computer program instructions may be provided for a general-purpose computer, a dedicated computer, an embedded processor, or a processor of another programmable data processing device to generate a machine, so that the instructions executed by the computer or the processor of the another programmable data processing device generate an apparatus for implementing a specific function in one or more procedures  in the flowcharts and / or in one or more blocks in the block diagrams.

[0118] The computer program instructions may alternatively be stored in a computer-readable memory that can indicate a computer or another programmable data processing device to work in a specific manner, so that the instructions stored in the computer-readable memory generate an artifact that includes an instruction apparatus. The instruction apparatus implements a specific function in one or more procedures in the flowcharts and / or in one or more blocks in the block diagrams.

[0119] The computer program instructions may alternatively be loaded onto a computer or another programmable data processing device, so that a series of operations and steps are performed on the computer or the another programmable device, so that computer-implemented processing is generated. Therefore, the instructions executed on the computer or the another programmable device provide steps for implementing a specific function in one or more procedures in the flowcharts and / or in one or more blocks in the block diagrams.

[0120] It is clearly that a person skilled in the art can make various modifications and variations to this application without departing from the scope of this application. This application is intended to cover these modifications and variations of this application provided that they fall within the scope of protection defined by the following claims and their equivalent technologies.

[0121] For ease of understanding of the embodiments of this application, the following briefly describes MIMO.

[0122] 1) MIMO

[0123] Multiple input multiple-output technology (sometimes simply referred to as “MIMO” ) allows an antenna array having multiple antennas to perform enhanced signal transmissions and receptions, which can result in higher data transmission rates. The above ED 110 and T-TRP 170, and / or NT-TRP may use MIMO to communicate over physical layer wireless resources. MIMO utilizes multiple antennas at a transmit apparatus and / or receive apparatus to transmit and / or receive data in a same physical layer resource block over multiple parallel wireless signals. MIMO may involve beamforming parallel wireless signals for reliable multipath transmission of data in the resource block. MIMO may involve bonding parallel wireless signals that transport different data, effectively increasing the data rate of the data carried in a resource block.

[0124] In recent years, a MIMO wireless communication system with the above T-TRP 170 and / or NT-TRP 172 configured with a large number of antennas (known as a large-scale MIMO or massive MIMO, for example) has gained wide attention from academia and industry. In the large-scale MIMO system, the T-TRP 170 and / or NT-TRP 172 are generally configured with more than ten antennas (such as 128 or 256 antennas) , and serve dozens of the ED 110 (such as 40 devices) . By having a large number of antennas, the T-TRP 170 and / or NT-TRP 172 can increase the degree of spatial freedom of  wireless communications, improve data transmission rate, spectrum efficiency and power efficiency, and minimize or largely eliminate the interference between cells. Using the degree of spatial freedom provided by the large number of antennas, the T-TRP 170 and / or NT-TRP 172 of each cell can communicate with many ED 110 in the cell on a same frequency resource at a same time (that is, on a same time-frequency resource) , thus greatly increasing the spectrum efficiency of the system. By having a large number of antennas, the T-TRP 170 and / or NT-TRP 172 also enable each user to have better spatial directivity for uplink and downlink transmission. This can further result in a reduction of transmission power at one or more of the T-TRP 170, the NT-TRP 172, and the ED 110, thus improving overall power efficiency in the system.

[0125] MIMO technology may include single-user MIMO (SU-MIMO) , where signals on multiple spatial layers are transmitted to a same ED, and multiple-user MIMO (MU-MIMO) , where multiple spatial layers are transmitted to multiple EDs.

[0126] A MIMO system may include a receive apparatus (ED 110 for a downlink transmission, T-TRP 170 or NT-TRP 172 for an uplink transmission, for example) connected to one or more receive (RX) antennas, a transmit apparatus (T-TRP 170 or NT-TRP 172 for a downlink transmission, or ED 110 for an uplink transmission, for example) connected to one or more transmit (TX) antennas. For instance, a plurality of RX antennas may form an antenna array in which the plurality of RX antennas are arranged in line at even intervals, which may be known as a uniform linear array (ULA) .

[0127] Fig. 5 is an example of a channel model of a MIMO system. A transmit apparatus is connected to four TX antennas, x1 to x4, a receive apparatus is connected to four RX antennas, y1 to y4, and a transmission channel may be formed between each TX antenna and each RX antenna pair. For example, a signal transmitted through x1 may be received by y2 through channel h21. A signal transmitted through x3 may be received by y1 through channel h13.

[0128] 2) Control resource set (CORESET)

[0129] A time-frequency resource is configured for downlink control channel transmission. In an implementation, the CORESET may be shared by multiple UEs for PDCCH transmission, in other words, a time-frequency resource in the CORESET may be used for PDCCH transmissions of the multiple UEs. For example, in a schedule, a time-frequency resource in the CORESET is used for a PDCCH transmission of one UE, or a time-frequency resource in the CORESET is used for PDCCH transmissions of multiple UEs.

[0130] 3) Search space (SS) set

[0131] In 5G (or NR) , downlink control signal (also called PDCCH) is transmitted using single spatial layer from the network to a UE. A time-frequency resource called CORESET is configured for the gNB to transmit PDCCH (s) to the UE (s) . The CORESET is shared by a number of UE (s) for their PDCCH transmission. Within a CORESET, a search space (SS) set is used for each UE to receive its PDCCH (s) . The search space set comprise of a number of potential set of time-frequency  resource element (RE) that can be used for the gNB to transmit the PDCCH to a particular UE. Such potential set of RE (s) is also referred as PDCCH candidates. To balance the need of resource utilization (or capacity of control signal) and the performance of control signal, there exists some overlapping between the search space sets of different UE (s) . Over the communication link between gNB and the UE, the gNB will transmit the PDCCH to a UE from one of the PDCCH candidates in its search space set and the UE would search through all the potential PDCCH candidates in its SS set until it decode its PDCCH.

[0132] 4) Single stage DCI (or called single-stage DCI) and two stage DCI (or called two-stage DCI)

[0133] For single stage DCI, DCI is carried on a physical channel, e.g. PDCCH, a UE receives signal carried on the physical channel and decodes the DCI to obtain information including scheduling information, then the UE receives or transmits data according to the scheduling information in the DCI. Compared with two stage DCI, the single stage DCI does not include two parts of DCI, namely, the single stage DCI is a single DCI.

[0134] For two stage DCI, two stage DCI includes two parts, i.e. first stage DCI (1st-stage DCI) and associated second stage DCI (2nd-stage DCI) . The 1st-stage DCIindicates information for receiving the 2nd-stage DCI. The 1st-stage DCIand the 2nd-stage DCI may be transmitted in different physical channels and / or on different time-frequency resources. For example, this two stage DCI structure may be used in scenarios that higher control information payload and more economical power consumption are required. Specifically, information for receiving 2nd-stage DCI is carried in 1st-stage DCIof two stage DCI, thus the 2nd-stage DCI may be received and decoded without the need to perform blind decoding based on the scheduling information in the 1st-stage DCI, which may reduce delay caused by blind decoding of the 2n stage DCI. Furthermore, avoiding blind decoding may save the UE power. At last, using the two stage DCI may allow more extra resources be used for carrying control information, which will greatly improve the system control signal capacity and overall system data capacity.

[0135] It should be mentioned that some terminologies used here such as PDCCH, PDSCH, PUCCH, PUSCH, CORESET, and SS set are from generations of wireless standards such as 3GPP 4G / 5G as the convenience of examples, the terminologies may be generalized to more general signaling and design. For example, the PDCCH and the PUCCH can be generalized to any control signaling between a base station and a UE (e.g., downlink, uplink, or Uulink) , or between a UE to another UE (i.e., sidelink) . For another example, the PDSCH / PUSCH can be generalized to data signal transmitted between a base station and a UE (e.g., downlink, uplink, or Uulink) , or between a UE to another UE (i.e., sidelink) . For another example, the CORESET can be generalized to time-frequency resources spanning one or more of time / frequency / spatial dimensions to transmit / receive control signals.

[0136] Multiple-input multiple output (MIMO) is a core technology of existing 5G NR systems, which uses multiple  antennas respectively at the transmit end and the receive end to transmit signals and receive signals. The MIMO technology can make full use of space resources and multiplies the channel capacity of the system without increasing spectrum resources or antenna transmit power. Therefore, MIMO still has great potential as one of the core technologies of 6G system.

[0137] A 400 MHz system bandwidth in the 10~13GHz range is envisioned as a promising mid-band for wide-area coverage and capacity improvement in 6G systems. In 10~13GHz with 400MHz, it is possible to deploy a ~1000 transmit / receive (Tx / Rx) antenna array at the base station (BS) side and a ~30 Tx / Rx antenna array at the user equipment (UE) side, which is far larger than the existing 5G antenna array scale. MIMO will be a key technology for 10~13GHz to improve single user-MIMO (SU-MIMO) peak rate with ~20 layers transmission and network peak throughput with ~300 layers multiple-user MIMO (MU-MIMO) layer transmission, and can reach a Tera-bits level system throughput, thus it could also be referred as Tera-bits MIMO (T-MIMO) . How to support such multi-layer SU-MIMO / MU-MIMO transmission is a challenging problem including pilot design and channel state information (CSI) acquisition. The use of ultra-high reference signal (RS) overhead and ultra-high algorithm complexity would result in bottlenecks.

[0138] But on the other hand, such super large scale of antennas at both base station (BS) and UE side would result in very rich multi-spatial layers. These rich multi-spatial layers would not only improve the performance of data transmission but also be used to improve the control signal transmission in both downlink and uplink directions between the BS and the UE.It could also be used in other links such as sidelink between UE and UE wherever applicable.

[0139] The control signal transmission is very critical in the wireless system. It takes the role of scheduling data transmission and feedback the outcome of the data transmission as well other information such as channel measurements, service request etc. Any error or miss-detection of the control signal would lead to the mis-detection or miss-decoding of the data transmission it schedules. Error in feedback would also lead to the wrong behavior at the BS or transmitter side which could impact the UE and system performance. Therefore, very low error rate is tolerable for control signal transmission, much lower than that of the data transmission. For data channel, HARQ process is implemented to allow re-transmission and hybrid combining of original and re-transmission of the same data to counterattack the channel impairment and improve the robustness of the system performance. However, for control channel, there is no such mechanism in place to improve its performance. The other challenge for the control signal (or control channel) transmission is that there is no prior knowledge for the receiver side (e.g., UE) to know exactly when and where the control signal would be transmitted, thus, the receiver side (e.g., , UE) could only reply on searching for and blind decoding of the control signal without prior knowledge on payload / code rate of the control signal, resulting in more complexity in detecting and decoding it. In overall, the control signal transmission and decoding is more challenge than data transmission whereas its role is very critical to the overall system. Therefore, more resource and efforts are required for control signal transmission to guarantee it has robust / reliable  performance.

[0140] The capacity of control signal is also a key factor for the wireless system. It is directly related to the overall capacity of the system as more capacity of control signal is, the more data transmission can be scheduled and more feedback information can be conveyed, which will lead to improved overall system capacity.

[0141] In summary, the control signal is critical to the wireless system, and its reliability / robustness / capacity would direct impact the whole system performance. In 5G NR, both uplink and downlink control signalsare transmitted on single spatial layer over a time-frequency resource set (or blocks) in both downlink and uplink, and the set of time-frequency resources could normally be shared by a number of UE (s) to balance the performance and overhead. That could limit the capacity and reliability of the control signal transmission.

[0142] For T-MIMO scenario, as larger number of antennas will be used in both BS and NE side, more spatial layers with good channel quality could be present, that opens a new dimension (spatial) to improve the performance. Control signal transmission could also benefit from availability of rich spatial multi-layers. If multi-spatial layers can be used for control signal transmission in both uplink (as UCI) and downlink (as DCI) between BS and UE or in sidelink between two UE (s) , it will provide more resources for the control signal as compared with single layer in 5G NR. That would not only increase the reliability / robustness of the control signal transmission (e.g., by allocating more resources and using lower coding rate) , but also increase the capacity of the control signal (more resources can accommodate more UE (s) for control signals and with larger payloads) .

[0143] In 5G NR, single spatial layer is used for control signal transmission in both downlink and uplink. In uplink, UCI is feedback from the UE to the BS. Three types of UCI are supported in 5G NR, which include HARQ-ACK to indicate the success or fail of a downlink data transmission; SR, service request to inform BS that UE has uplink data to transit; and CSI for downlink channel state information measurement. Some types of UCI such as HARQ-ACK and SR may require more reliable performance as it impact directly to the BS behavior, while other types of UCI such as CSI could have very large payload to feedback. Some of the PUCCH resources that used to transmit these UCI such as HARQ-ACK is indicated by the DCI when scheduling a PDSCH traffic. To be more specific, the PUCCH resource for HARQ-ACK is indicated by a number of bits in DCI to select a specific resource from a pre-configured resource set. Together such semi-static configuration and dynamic indication provide some flexibility in PUCCH resources assignment.

[0144] In the present communication systems, PUCCH scheduling could be part of DCI scheduling PDSCH. Even though semi-static configuration and dynamic indication are used together to provide some flexibility in PUCCH resources assignment, it still lacks of enough flexibility in resource allocation as compared with that of PDSCH / PUSCH, which could degrade its performance as well as cause more collisions.

[0145] This disclosure proposes to separate PUCCH scheduling from conventional PDSCH / PUSCH scheduling and have them transmitted on the 2nd-satge DCI of a two-stage DCI, thus provide more flexibility in PUCCH resource allocation. To be more specific, different manner to multiplex separate PUCCH scheduling and PDSCH / PUSCH scheduling are described which include time division multiplexing (TDM) , frequency division multiplexing (FDM) , spatial division multiplexing (SDM) or concatenation manners. Configuration / indication of these multiplexing manner are also provided. Namely, more time-frequency resources may be utilized to transmit and / or receive the uplink control signal scheduling. That may greatly improve the performance and flexibility of the uplink control signal scheduling, especially the performance and flexibility of the PUCCH scheduling.

[0146] When multi-spatial layers can be used to transmit the control signal, that adds one layer on top of single spatial layer of time-frequency resource for control signal transmission in 5G. Namely, more resources can be utilized to transmit / receive the PDCCH (s) . However, we are facing new challenge to design the CORESET (s) for multi-layer PDCCH transmission / reception. One way is resolve this is to introduce two-stage DCI on downlink Uu link, and ruse the current downlink control signal mechanism from 5G NR to support the 1st -stage DCI but offload some payload to the 2nd-stage DCI. The 2nd-stage DCI will be transmitted with data / feedback on multi-layers, thus benefit from improved resource and diversity. In the following sections, more detail on solutions is described. It should be mentioned that some terminologies used here such as PDCCH, PDSCH, PUCCH, PUSCH are from early generations of wireless standard such a 3GPP 4G / 5G as the convenience of examples. They can be generalized to more general signaling and design, for example, PDCCH and PUCCH can be generalized to any control signaling between the network and the UE (i.e., on DL or UL Uu link) , or between a UE to another UE (i.e., sidelink) , PDSCH / PUSCH can be generalized to data signal transmitted between network and UE on Uu link or between two UE (s) on sidelink (SL) .

[0147] Further, the separate scheduling of PUCCH may include indication and resources allocation (RA) in time / frequency / spatial domain where PUCCH will be transmitted in uplink. It could also include the format indication of the UCI as well some attributes of the UCI transmission such as sequences index (if sequences are used to represent some UCI information) , corresponding demodulation reference signal (DMRS) for PUCCH demodulation.

[0148] In the embodiments of this application, a transmission layer may be referred to as a spatial layer that is used for carrying information (e.g., uplinkcontrol signal) for transmission, or may be referred to as a layer for the same purpose. Information carried on a transmission layer may be mapped to time-frequency resources with a corresponding antenna port before being transmitted. Multiple transmission layers would allow multiple independent information streams (one stream on one layer) transmitted in the air simultaneously from a transmitter (e.g., a base station, or a UE) to a receiver (e.g., a UE) , and thus improve the throughput or reliability. However, limitation is not made herein. The transmission layer is only named  for description and does not limit the scope of protection of the embodiments of this application. For example, transmission layers may be shown in the form of beams, and thus the embodiments may be applied to beams.

[0149] The following describes the embodiments of this application in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings. And for ease of description, the following takes uplink transmission as an example.

[0150] There are many PUCCH formats (e.g., PUCCH formats 0-5) in 5G NR to support different type of UCI and different payloads. That make it more difficult to support. In 5G NR, the PUCCH resource allocation is indicated in DCI from a set of configured PUCCH resources pool. That is also lack of flexibility and may cause collisions. In T-MIMO system, as there are more bandwidth and more spatial layers, the PUCCH scheduling could be more flexible and support larger range of payloads (due to large number of spatial layers) . For example, instead of support a number of types of PUCCH formats, the PUCCH formats can be configured, Also the resources allocation (RA) for PUCCH could be more flexible similar to that of RA for PDSCH / PUSCH, and therefore, can be transmitted on a more board range of resources in time / frequency / spatial domains to exploit more diversified channel quality and avoid collisions. In addition, large number of spatial layers in T-MIMO system could require large number of HARQ-ACK feedback and large range of HARQ-ACK feedback (from fewer bits to tens of bits) . To achieve that, scheduling of PUCCH can be separately prepared and transmitted out of conventional PDSCH scheduling, where PUCCH scheduling is considered as part of PDSCH scheduling.

[0151] The separate scheduling of PUCCH may include indication and RA in time / frequency / spatial domain where PUCCH will be transmitted in uplink. It could also include the format indication of the UCI as well some attributes of the UCI transmission such as sequences index (if sequences are used to represent some UCI information) , corresponding DMRS for PUCCH demodulation.

[0152] In a two-stage DCI transmission, the 1st stage DCI could carry some basic scheduling information, while more payload of DCI could be carried by the 2nd-DCI. If T-MIMO system is deployed, more spatial layers could be used to carry 2nd-stage DCI and thus improve the overall capacity. If PUCCH scheduling is transmitted separately from conventional PDSCH scheduling, it could be carried in 2nd-DCI region as well.

[0153] The scheduling of PUCCH and scheduling of PDSCH can be transmitted in 2nd-stage DCI region in different manners. The following examples provides some alternative.

[0154] Referring to FIG. 6, FIG. 6 is a schematic flowchart of a communication method 600 according to an embodiment of this application. The communication method 600may be performed by two communication devices (for example, a base station and a UE) , or performed by two chips, two circuits, or two processing systems configured in the communication devices. The following embodiments are described in combination with the communicationmethod 600 performed by a UE and a base station as an example.

[0155] At S610, a UE receives first DCI, wherein the first DCI indicates the second DCI.

[0156] At S620, the UE receives the second DCI according to the first DCI.

[0157] The second DCI may be intended to be received by the UE. In some implementations, the second DCI comprises a first information for scheduling uplink control signal transmission and a second information for scheduling data signal transmission, wherein the first information and the second information being carried on separate resources.

[0158] Generally, a resource of this application could be a set of physical resource blocks (PRBs) in frequency domain with one slot (or a number of OFDM symbols) in time domain on one or more transmission layers in spatial domain.

[0159] In some embodiments, the separate resources are partially overlapped resources or non-overlapped resources. In some other embodiments, the separate resources are partially orthogonal resources ororthogonal resources.

[0160] In some embodiments, information of uplink control signal scheduling includes information of PUCCH scheduling, and information of data signal scheduling includesinformation of PDSCH / PUSCH scheduling.

[0161] The first DCI and the second DCI may be transmitted by a base station.

[0162] In some embodiments, the first DCI indicates the second DCI, may also be expressed as: the first DCI indicates information (the information may be referred to as scheduling information) of the second DCI, or the first DCI indicates information for receiving the second DCI.

[0163] In some embodiments, the first DCI comprises one or more of the following information indicating the second DCI: a time domain resource used for the second DCI, a frequency domain resource used for the second DCI, one or more transmission layers used for the second DCI, or a modulation and coding scheme (MCS) for the second DCI.

[0164] In some embodiments, the first DCI is 1st-stage DCI of two stage DCI, and the second DCI is 2nd-stage DCI of the two stage DCI.

[0165] In some embodiments, the method 600 further includes S630. At S630, the UE communicates signals on one or more transmission layers based on the first DCI and the second DCI, or the UE communicates signals on one or more transmission layers based on the second DCI. The signalsare uplink control signals, downlink data signalsand / or uplinkdata signals.

[0166] The signals may be scheduled by the second DCI, or the signals may be scheduled by the two stage DCI that includes the first DCI and the second DCI.

[0167] In a possible implementation, the signalsare scheduled by the second DCI, in other words, the second DCI  indicates information for communicating the signals, and therefore the UE communicates the signals on the one or more transmission layers based on the second DCI.

[0168] In another possible implementation, the signalsare scheduled by the two stage DCI, in other words, the two stage DCI (that is, both first DCI and second DCI) together indicates information for communicating the signals, and therefore the UE communicates the signals on the one or more transmission layers based on the two stage DCI. For example, the first DCI may carry information#1 for receiving the signals, and the second DCI may carry information#2 for receiving the signals, the information#1 and the information#2 may be different or the same; and the UE communicates the signals based on the information#1 and the information#2.

[0169] Theabove implementations are just examples, and shall not constitute any limitation on this application. For example, the signals are scheduled by the first DCI, in other words, the first DCI indicates information for communicating the signals, therefore the UE communicates the signals on the one or more transmission layers based on the first DCI. The signals may be downlink signals, or the signals may be uplink signals.

[0170] In some embodiments, a communication method similar to the communication method 600 may be performed by two communication devices (for example, two UEs) , or performed by two chips, two circuits, or two processing systems configured in the communication devices. First, a UE receives first SCI, wherein the first SCI indicates the second SCI. Further, the UE receives the second SCI according to the first SCI. In this example, the signals may be sidelinksignals.

[0171] In some embodiments, the first information and the second information are carried on a first resource and a second resource respectively, wherein the first resource and the second resource are separated. As shown in FIG. 7, data stream of the first information and data stream of the second information could be encoded respectively, and then mapped on the first resource and the second resource respectively.

[0172] In some embodiments, the first information and the second information are carried on a first resource and a second resource respectively, wherein the first resource and the second resource are multiplexed in a time domain multiplexing manner on a transmission layer, e.g., time division multiplexing (TDM) manner.

[0173] In some embodiments, the first information and the second information are carried on a first resource and a second resource respectively, wherein the first resource and the second resource are multiplexed in a frequency domain multiplexing manner on a transmission layer, e.g., frequency division multiplexing (FDM) manner

[0174] In some embodiments, the first information and the second information are carried on a first resource and a second resource respectively, wherein the first resource and the second resource areon different transmission layers multiplexed in a spatial domain multiplexing manner, e.g., spatial division multiplexing (SDM) manner

[0175] In some embodiments, the first information and the second information are carried on a first resource and a  second resource respectively, wherein the first resource and the second resource are concatenating resources on one or more transmission layers.

[0176] In a possible implementation, the first DCI further indicates the first information and the second information are carried on separate resources.

[0177] In a possible implementation, the UE receives an indication information (e.g. RRC signaling) indicating the first information and the second information are carried on separate resources

[0178] Following are some detailed embodiments to further illustrate the method above.

[0179] Case#1, the first resource and the second resource are multiplexed in a time domain multiplexing manner on a transmission layer.

[0180] Referring to FIG. 8, FIG. 8 is an example that the first resource and the second resource are multiplexed in a time domain multiplexing manner on a transmission layer.

[0181] In the embodiment of TDM multiplexing for PUCCH scheduling and PDSCH / PUSCH scheduling, as shown in FIG. 8 as an example, in this manner of multiplexing, PUCCH scheduling can be transmitted on a group of symbols while PDSCH / PUSCH scheduling can be transmitted on separate symbols. DMRS symbols could be inserted among these symbols for demodulation. In the example as shown FIG. 8, PUCCH scheduling is transmitted on a group of symbols at the beginning of the 2nd-stage DCI region, which is followed by a group of symbols used to transmit PDSCH / PUSCH scheduling. In more general case, the group of symbols for transmission of PUCCH scheduling and those for transmission of PDSCH / PUSCH scheduling may not be contiguous in time but could be interlaced in time to improve the temporal diversity.

[0182] More specifically, in this example, two transmission layers respectively called layer#0 and layer#1 are used for the 2nd-stage DCI region, and in the example specifically, for a particular UE, a first information (e.g., a PUCCH scheduling) is transmitted on thelayer#0, and a second information (e.g., a PDSCH / PUCSHscheduling) is also transmitted on the layer#0, wherein the first information is multiplexed with the second information in time domain. Further, the UE communicates uplinkcontrol signal and / or data transmission on the layer#0, the layer#1 and the layer#2 based on the second DCI.

[0183] Generally, the UE communicates uplink control signal and / or data transmission on one or more transmission layers based on the second DCI, the layer#0, the layer#1 and the layer#2 are merely examples and should not constitute any limitation to this application.

[0184] Generally, “information#1 is multiplexed with information#2” has a similar meaning to “information#1 and information#2 are multiplexed” , the expressions can be referred to as each other otherwise noted.

[0185] According to this embodiment, the tworesources carryingdifferent information can be multiplexed on the same or different range of frequency resource in a simple way, the second DCI can be configured easily by arranging the two  resources multiplexed in time domain carrying different information on a transmission layer.

[0186] In some embodiments, 1-bit can be used in 1st stage to indicate if separate PUCCH scheduling is supported or not. For example, if this bit is set to 1, separate PUCCH scheduling (namely, it is not part of conventional PDSCH / PUSCH scheduling) is supported, otherwise, it is not supported and PUCCH scheduling information is part of the PDSCH / PUSCH scheduling in conventional way.

[0187] In a possible implementation, if separate PUCCH scheduling is supported, the resource used for separate PUCCH scheduling transmission can be configured and / or indicated by both RRC and 1st-stage DCI.

[0188] In the embodiments of the following manners, the multiplexing of PUCCH scheduling and PDSCH / PUSCH scheduling can be semi-static configured by RRC and / or dynamic indicated by the 1st-stage DCI.

[0189] Manner#1, the multiplexing of PUCCH scheduling and PDSCH / PUSCH scheduling can be semi-static configured. For example, radio resource control (RRC) could indicate different sets of groups of resourcesin TDM manner for PUSCH scheduling and PDSCH / PUSCH scheduling respectively.

[0190] In some embodiments, a bit field in RRC could be used for indicating a group of time units, may also be expressed as: the information indicating a group of time units could be configured by RRC; or RRC signaling indicating a group of time units could be transmitted.

[0191] Manner#2, the multiplexing of PUCCH scheduling and PDSCH / PUSCH scheduling can be dynamically configured by the 1st-stage DCI. For example, 1st-DCI could indicate different sets of groups of resources in TDM manner for PUSCH scheduling and PDSCH / PUSCH scheduling respectively.

[0192] Manner#3, both dynamic signal and semi-static signal can be used to jointly indicate TDM based resource for PUCCH scheduling and PDSCH / PUSCH scheduling.

[0193] In some embodiments, for TDM multiplexing for PUCCH scheduling and PDSCH / PUSCH scheduling, a set of groups of symbols could be configured for transmission of PUCCH scheduling or PDSCH / PUSCH scheduling, and a bit field in 1st-stage DCI could be used to indicate which group of symbols is used for PUCCH scheduling. It should be noted that a group of symbols may not necessarily be contiguous in time.

[0194] In a possible implementation, the UE receives a first indication information indicating a resource set, and receives a second indication information indicating the first resource from the resource set and the second resource from the resource set. Specifically, RRC could be used for indicating a resource set (e.g., a set of groups of time units like symbols) used for carrying PUCCH scheduling and PDSCH / PUSCH scheduling, a bit field in the 1st-stage DCI could be used for indicating a group of time units (e.g., symbols) carrying PUCCH scheduling, and another bit field in the 1st-stage DCI could be used for indicating a group of time units carrying PDSCH / PUSCH scheduling.

[0195] According to this embodiment, the first DCI is used for indicating the resources carrying the first information and the resources carrying the second information respectively, the first DCI possesses high flexibility.

[0196] In a possible implementation, the UE receives a first indication information indicating a resource set, and receives a second indication information indicating the first resource from the resource set, and the remaining resource from the resource set is used as the second resource. Specifically, RRCcould be used for indicating a resource set (e.g., a set of groups of time units like symbols) used for carrying PUCCH scheduling and PDSCH / PUSCH scheduling, a bit field in the 1st-stage DCI could be used for indicating a group of time units (e.g., symbols) carrying PUCCH scheduling, thus the rest of time units are used for carrying PDSCH / PUSCH scheduling. For example, RRC indicates a set of symbols, symbol#0, symbol#1, symbol#2 and symbol#3 are used for carrying PUCCH scheduling and PDSCH / PUSCH scheduling, a bit field in the 1st-stage DCI indicates symbol#0 is used for carrying PUCCH scheduling, thus symbol#1, symbol#2 and symbol#3 are used for carrying PDSCH / PUSCH scheduling.

[0197] According to this embodiment, transmissioninterval and latency of first indication information using higher layer signaling such as RRCis much longerthan the transmission interval and latency of the second indication informationusing more dynamic signal such as DCI. However, the complexity impact of using higher signal such as RRC is much less than that of using dynamic signaling. Thus, using them in a more combined manner could reach a balance ofperformance and complexity impact.

[0198] Case#2, the first resource and the second resource are multiplexed in a frequency domain multiplexing manner on a transmission layer.

[0199] Referring to FIG. 9, FIG. 9 is an example thatthe first resource and the second resource are multiplexed in a frequency domain multiplexing manner on a transmission layer.

[0200] In the embodiment of FDM multiplexing for PUCCH scheduling and PDSCH / PUSCH scheduling, as shown in FIG. 9 as an example, in this manner of multiplexing, PUCCH scheduling can be transmitted on a set of PRBs while PDSCH / PUSCH scheduling can be transmitted on separate sets of PRBs. DMRS symbols could be inserted among these PRBs for demodulations. In the example as shown FIG. 9, PUCCH scheduling is transmitted on a group of PRBs at lower end (lower frequency) of the 2nd-stage DCI region, which is followed by a group of PRBs used to transmit PDSCH / PUSCH scheduling. In more general case, the group of PRBs for transmission of PUCCH scheduling and those for transmission of PDSCH / PUSCH scheduling may not be contiguous in frequencybut could be interlaced in frequency to improve the frequency diversity.

[0201] More specifically, in this example, two transmission layers respectively called layer#0 and layer#1are used forthe 2nd-stage DCI region, and in the example specifically, for a particular UE, a first information (e.g., a PUCCH  scheduling) is transmitted on the layer#0, and a second information (e.g., a PDSCH / PUCSHscheduling) is also transmitted on the layer#0, wherein the first information is multiplexed with the second information in frequency domain multiplexing manner. Further, the UE communicates control signal and / or data transmission on the layer#0, the layer#1 and the layer#2 based on the second DCI.

[0202] According to this embodiment, the two resources carryingdifferent informationcan be transmitted on the same or different range of time resource in a simple way, the second DCI can be configured easily by arranging the two resources in frequency domain carrying different informationon a transmission layer.

[0203] In a possible implementation, for FDM multiplexing for PUCCH scheduling and PDSCH / PUSCH scheduling a set of groups of PRBs could be configured for transmission of PUCCH scheduling or PDSCH / PUSCH scheduling, and a bit field in 1st-stage DCI could be used to indicate which group of PRBs is used for PUCCH scheduling. It should be noted that a group of PRBs may not necessarily be contiguous in frequency.

[0204] Generally, the PRBs for the PUCCH scheduling and those for the PDSCH / PUCSHscheduling can be configured in a semi-static manner, or be configured by a downlink signal (e.g., the RRC signaling) transmitted from the network side, or both dynamic signal and semi-static signal can be used together. All the methods mentioned in case#1 can also be applied to the embodiments of this case and the embodiments of the following cases, details of the following cases or embodiments may be omitted.

[0205] #Case 3, the first resource and the second resource are on different transmission layers.

[0206] Referring to FIG. 10, FIG. 10 is an example that the first resource and the second resource are concatenating resources on two transmission layers.

[0207] In the embodiment of SDM multiplexing for PUCCH scheduling and PDSCH / PUSCH scheduling, as shown in FIG. 10 as an example, in this manner of multiplexing, PUCCH scheduling can be transmitted on one or more layer (s) while PDSCH / PUSCH scheduling can be transmitted on separate one or more layer (s) . DMRS symbols could be transmitted on different layers for demodulations. In the example as shown FIG. 10, PUCCH scheduling is transmitted on layer#0 of the 2nd-stage DCI region, which is followed by layer#1 used to transmit PDSCH / PUSCH scheduling. In more general case, the layers for transmission of PUCCH scheduling and those for transmission of PDSCH / PUSCH scheduling may not be contiguous in spatial domain but could be interlaced in spatial to improve the spatial diversity.

[0208] More specifically, in this example, two transmission layers respectively called layer#0 and layer#1are used for the 2nd-stage DCI region, and in the example specifically, for a particular UE, a first information (e.g., a PUCCH scheduling) is transmitted on the layer#0, and a second information (e.g., a PDSCH / PUCSHscheduling) is transmitted on the layer#1, wherein the first information and the second informationcould be transmitted on the same time-frequency resource. Further,  the UE communicates control signal and / or data transmission on the layer#0, the layer#1 and the layer#2 based on the second DCI.

[0209] In a possible implementation, DMRS symbols could be inserted on both the layer#0 and the layer#1 for demodulation.

[0210] According to this embodiment, the tworesources carrying different informationcan be transmitted on the same time-frequency resource on two transmission layers in a simple way, the second DCI can be configured easily by arranging the two resources multiplexed on the same time-frequency resource carrying different information on two transmission layers.

[0211] In some embodiments, for SDM multiplexing for PUCCH scheduling and PDSCH / PUSCH scheduling a set of groups of layers could be configured for transmission of PUCCH scheduling or PDSCH / PUSCH scheduling, and a bit field in 1st-stage DCI could be used to indicate which group of layers is used for PUCCH scheduling. It should be noted that a group of layers may not necessarily be contiguous in indexing.

[0212] Generally, the above configuration and indication can be used together to allocate resources in one or more of time / frequency / spatial layers dimensions.

[0213] #Case 4, the first resource and the second resource are concatenating resources on one or more transmission layers.

[0214] Referring to FIG. 11, FIG. 11 is an example that the first resource and the second resource are concatenating resources on one or more transmission layers.

[0215] In the embodiment of concatenating PUCCH scheduling and PDSCH / PUSCH scheduling, as shown in FIG. 11 as an example, in this manner, PUCCH scheduling can be transmitted first in 2nd-DCI resource and followed immediately by PDSCH / PUSCH scheduling. The size of resource used for PUCCH scheduling and PDSCH / PUSCH scheduling can be determined based on the size of scheduling information as well as the used MCS for each scheduling. More layers can be used if resource on a single layer of 2nd-stage DCI region is not enough to transmit PUCCH scheduling and / or PDSCH / PUSCH scheduling. As shown in an example in FIG. 11, the PUCCH scheduling is placed on resources in 2nd-stage DCI region first for transmission. When that is done, the PDSCH / PUSCH scheduling is placed on resources in 2nd-satge DCI region right after those for PUCCH scheduling transmission, if the resources on layer#0 in 2nd-satge DCI region is all used up, the next layer (s) , e.g, layer#1 can be used to transmit the remaining PUCCH scheduling and / or PDSCH / PUSCH scheduling as well.

[0216] Further, the UE communicates control signal and / or data transmission on the layer#0, the layer#1 and the layer#2 based on the second DCI.

[0217] According to this embodiment, a complex second DCI can improve the efficiency of the resources used for transmitting complex information on limited resources.

[0218] In some embodiments, the time units, PRBs and transmission layers for transmitting the PUCCH scheduling and those for transmitting the PDSCH / PUCSHscheduling may not be contiguous but could be interlaced to improve the diversity.

[0219] In some of the above embodiments, such as FIGS. 7-11, layer#0 and layer#1are mainly used as examples, this application embodiments do not limit the number of a transmission layer configured for uplink signal transmissions, and this application embodiments do not limit the number of a transmission layer carrying an uplink signal. The transmission layer configured for the uplink signal transmissions include thetransmission layer actual carrying the uplink signal, and taking FIGS. 7-11 as an example, the first transmission layer or the second transmission layer at S620 may be layer#0or layer#1.
