Description

ACCESS POINT DEVICE, BRIDGE DEVICE AND COMMUNICATION METHODThis application claims the benefit of US provisional application Serial No. 63 / 566,934, filed Mar. 19, 2024, the disclosure of which is incorporated by reference herein in its entirety.TECHNICAL FIELD

[0001] The disclosure relates to a communication system, and particularly relates to access point (AP) devices, bridge devices, and communication methods thereof.BACKGROUND

[0002] As the progress of communication technology, various types of communication systems have been widely employed in daily life. Wi-Fi (Wireless Fidelity) is a technology that allows devices (such as, station (STA) devices) to connect to the Internet or a local area network (LAN) , and it is widely used in various environments such as homes, offices, and public places.

[0003] Access-point (AP) devices are core components in Wi-Fi system. An AP can communicate with wireless devices (such as, non-AP devices (such as, STAs) in the Wi-Fi system via wireless connection and can also bridge wireless network traffic to wired network (such as, Ethernet, Fiber Optic Network, etc. ) . Usually, APs of the Wi-Fi system connect to a distribution system (DS) of the wired network. Usually, there are multiple devices in a DS for transferring communication data for Wi-Fi system.

[0004] A STA device is usually a mobile terminal (e.g., a mobile phone or a wearable device) , such a STA device may change its location while connecting with one of the AP devices. If the STA device leaves a cell range of the currently serving AP device (i.e., a source AP device) , another AP device, which is referred to as a target AP device, must be responsible for data transmission for this STA device. The above process is referred to as a “roaming” of the STA device.

[0005] When the STA device roams from the source AP device to the target AP device, if the DS and the AP devices (i.e., the source AP device and the target AP device) don’ t change the transmission path for the STA device, downlink traffic will be still conveyed through the original transmission path directed to the source AP device instead of the target AP device. In this circumstance, the STA device will lose data packets during the roaming.

[0006] In view of the above issues, it is desirable to have an improved communication system and an operating method thereof, which may achieve a seamless roaming for the STA device.SUMMARY

[0007] According to one embodiment of the present disclosure, a communication method is provided. The communication method is performed by an access-point (AP) device. The AP device is a target AP device for a roaming of a station (STA) device. The communication method includes the following steps. A request message is received from a source AP device for the roaming of the STA device. A unicast packet is transmitted based on the request message. The unicast packet is used for triggering an update of the bridge table of each one of a plurality of bridge devices between the target AP device and the source AP device.

[0008] According to another embodiment of the present disclosure, a communication method is provided. The communication method is performed by an access-point (AP) device. The AP device is a source AP device for a roaming of a station (STA) device. The communication method includes the following steps. A first request message is received from the STA device, and the address of a target AP device is got for the roaming of the STA device based on the first request message. A second request message is transmitted to the target AP device. The second request is used for triggering the target AP device to transmit a unicast packet, and the unicast packet is used for triggering an update of the bridge table of each one of a plurality of bridge devices between the target AP device and the source AP device.

[0009] According to still another embodiment of the present disclosure, a communication method is provided. The communication method is performed by a bridge device. The bridge device is one of a plurality of bridge devices between a source AP device and a target AP device for the roaming of a station (STA) device. The communication method includes the following steps. A unicast packet is received. The unicast packet is used for triggering an update of the bridge table of each one of the plurality of bridge devices. A bridge table of the bridge device is updated for the STA device after receiving the unicast packet.

[0010] According to yet another embodiment of the present disclosure, an access-point (AP) device is provided. The AP device is a target AP device for a roaming of a station (STA) device, and the AP device includes a memory, a processor and a transceiver. The memory is configured for storing codes, and the processor is configured to execute the following operations when executing the codes in the memory. A request message is received from a source AP device for the roaming of the STA device through the transceiver. A unicast packet is transmitted through the transceiver based on the request message. The unicast packet is used for triggering an update of the bridge table of each one of a plurality of bridge devices between the target AP device and the source AP device.

[0011] According to further another embodiment of the present disclosure, an access-point (AP) device is provided. The AP device is a source AP device for a roaming of a station (STA) device, and the AP device includes a memory, a processor and a transceiver. The memory is configured for storing codes, and the processor is configured to execute the following operations when executing the codes in the memory. A first request message is received from the STA device through the transceiver, and the address of a target AP device is got for the roaming of the STA based on the first request message. A second request message is transmitted to the target AP device through the transceiver. The second request is used for triggering the target AP device to transmit a unicast packet, and the unicast packet is used for triggering an update of the bridge table of each one of a plurality of bridge devices between the target AP device and the source AP device.

[0012] According to an alternative embodiment of the present disclosure, a bridge device is provided. The bridge device is among several bridge devices between a source AP device and a target AP device for a roaming of a station (STA) device. The bridge device includes a memory, a processor and a transceiver. The memory is configured for storing codes, and the processor is configured to execute the following operations when executing the codes in the memory. A unicast packet is received through the transceiver, and the unicast packet is used for triggering an update of the bridge table of each one of the plurality of bridge devices. A bridge table of the bridge device is updated for the STA device after receiving the unicast packet.BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

[0024] FIG. 1A is a schematic diagram illustrating a communication system 1000 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. The communication system 1000 includes several bridge devices 20, 21 and 22, several access point (AP) devices 31, 32, 33 and 34, and a station (STA) device 40.

[0025] As shown in FIG. 1A, in some embodiments, the bridge devices 20~22 and the AP devices 31~34 may be located in a distribution system (DS) 100 (alternatively, in some other embodiments, the AP devices 31~34 may be not located in the DS 100 (i.e., the DS 100 may include only the bridge devices 20~22) ) . More particularly, in some embodiments, each of the bridge devices 20~22 and the AP devices 31~34 in the DS 100 may be a “layer-2 device” which operating with a layer-2 protocol in the communication system 1000. More particularly, the bridge device 20 may coupled to a network 10 (such as, an internet or a local area network (LAN) ) . Furthermore, the bridge devices 21 and 22 are coupled to the network 10 through the bridge device 20. In this disclosure, term “bridge device” is just for illustrating purpose and just an example of the devices in a DS. In practical applications, other terms can be used to refer to a single device in a DS, such as switching device, routing device, etc. Any device which is located in the DS and is used to transfer data transmission, falling within the scope of this disclosure. In some embodiments, a bridge device in our disclosure could be a gateway device, a router, an Ethernet switch, an AP device or any other kind of device which can transfer data in the DS.

[0026] In addition, the bridge device 21 has a downlink connection with the AP device 31 and another downlink connection with the AP device 32. Likewise, the bridge device 22 has a downlink connection with the AP device 33 and another downlink connection with the AP device 34. In the example of FIG. 1A, the bridge devices 20~22 connected with the AP devices 31~34 via wired connections.

[0027] The STA device 40 is a user equipment (UE) , which may be a terminal device (e.g., a smart phone, a desk-top computer or a lap-top computer) . The STA device 40 may establish a connection with one of the AP devices 31~34 to receive a downlink traffic. For example, the STA device 40 has a wireless connection with the AP device 32 to receive a downlink traffic DL1. The downlink traffic DL1 is provided by the network 10 and conveyed through the bridge devices 20 and 21 and the AP device 32, and finally received by the STA device 40. The AP device 32 may have an effective coverage for signal transmission, which is represented as a “cell region” R1. The STA device 40 locates within the cell region R1 of the AP device 32 to receive the downlink traffic DL1.

[0028] During data transmission of the downlink traffic DL1, the STA device 40 may change its location and thereby move out of the cell region R1 of the AP device 32, enter a cell region of another AP device (e.g., the STA device 40 enters the cell region R2 of the neighboring AP device 33) and switch to another AP device, this process is referred to as a “roaming” of the STA device 40. In the roaming of the STA device 40, the AP device 32 is referred to as a “source AP device” and the AP device 33 is referred to as a “target AP device” . That is, the STA device 40 roams from the source AP device to the target AP device.

[0029] After the STA device 40 enters the cell region R2 and connects with the AP device 33, if downlink traffic towards the STA device 40 is still provided to the AP device 32, data packets in the downlink traffic will not be received by STA device 40. Accordingly, an adjusted downlink traffic through a different downlink path should be directed to the target AP device 33.

[0030] FIG. 1B is a schematic diagram illustrating a downlink traffic DL2 directed to the target AP device of the roaming of the STA device 40. As shown in FIG. 1B, when the STA device 40 roams to the target AP device (i.e., the AP device 33) , a downlink traffic DL2 is provided to STA device 40. The downlink traffic DL2 is provided by the network 10 and conveyed through the bridge devices 20, 22 and the AP device 33, and finally received by the STA device 40.

[0031] Each of the bridge devices 20~22 and the AP devices 31~34 in the DS 100 may have a table (referred to as a “bridge table” ) for recording transmission paths for the downlink traffics, such as DL1 and DL2. In response to the roaming of the STA device 40, the bridge tables of the bridge devices 20~22 and the source and target AP devices 32~33 in the DS 100 have to be updated. For example, the bridge tables of the bridge devices 20~21 and the AP device 32 in the DS 100 first records the transmission paths for the downlink traffic DL1 when the STA device 40 connects with the AP device 32, and in response to the roaming of the STA device 40 to the AP device 33, the bridge tables of the bridge devices 20~22 and the AP device 32~33 have to be updated to record the transmission paths for the downlink traffic DL2.

[0032] In order to facilitate an update of these bridge tables of devices in the DS 100, for the roaming of the STA device 40, the communication system 1000 utilizes a control mechanism as will be described in the following paragraphs.

[0033] FIGS. 2A, 2B-1 and 2B-2 are schematic diagrams illustrating the control mechanism for an update of the bridge tables, for the roaming of the STA device 40 in the present disclosure. In this disclosure, utilizing a single unicast packet UP to trigger the update of the bridge tables of the bridge devices and the source AP device. The unicast packet UP is initiated by the AP device 33 (i.e., the target AP device for the roaming of the STA device 40) , and the unicast packet UP has a source address (i.e. “SA” ) pointing to the STA device 40. That is, the unicast packet UP is issued by the AP device 33, but the source address of the unicast packet UP points to the STA device 40. Furthermore, the unicast packet UP has a destination address (i.e. “DA” ) pointing to the AP device 32 (i.e., the source AP device for the roaming of the STA device 40) .

[0034] The unicast packet UP is conveyed through a transmission path starting from the target AP device and ending at the source AP device. That is, the unicast packet UP is sent by the AP device 33 and conveyed through the bridge devices 22, 20 and 21, and finally arrived at the AP device 32. On the other hand, the AP devices 31 and 34 which are not located on the transmission path from the target AP device to the source AP device, do not need to receive the unicast packet UP.

[0035] The bridge devices 22, 20 and 21 and the AP devices 32 receives the unicast packet UP, and the bridge tables of the bridge devices 22, 20 and 21 and the AP devices 32 are triggered by the unicast packet UP to perform updating.

[0036] Referring to FIG. 2B-1, before the roaming of the STA device 40, the STA device 40 receives the downlink traffic DL1 from the AP device 32. From the point of view of the bridge device 20, the downlink traffic DL1 is received from a port p1 and forwarded to a port p2. Therefore, the bridge table of the bridge device 20 may record a “destination” indicating the STA device 40, and further record a “forwarding port” indicating the port p2, as shown in following Table 1: Table 1

[0037] Similarly, the bridge tables of the bridge device 21 and the AP device 32 may also record a “destination” indicating the STA device 40, and further record a “forwarding port” indicating the ports of the corresponding device which transmit the downlink traffic DL1.

[0038] Then, referring to FIG. 2B-2, after receiving the single unicast packet UP, the bridge tables of the bridge devices 22, 20 and 21 and the AP device 32 should be updated for the downlink traffic DL2. For example, the bridge table of the bridge device 20 should be updated as: the “forwarding port” indicates the port p3 (as in Table 2) is used for transmitting the downlink traffic DL2. Table 2

[0039] Similarly, the bridge table of the bridge device 22 may also record a “destination” indicating the STA device 40, and further record a “forwarding port” indicating the ports of the corresponding device which transmit the downlink traffic DL2.

[0040] As for the target AP device 33, before the roaming of the STA device 40, the STA device 40 receives the downlink traffic DL1 from the AP device 32. Therefore, the bridge table of target AP device 33 may not have a record for the STA device 40. Then, after the STA device 40 requests to roam from the AP device 32 to the AP device 33, the target AP device 33 should update its bridge table before or after transmitting the single unicast packet UP, the bridge table of the AP device 33 should be updated as: a “destination” indicating the STA device 40, the “forwarding port” indicates the port Wi-Fi (as in Table 3) is used for transmitting the downlink traffic DL2 for the STA device 40. [0041] Then, after the roaming of the STA device 40, the STA device 40 can receive the downlink traffic DL2 through the updated transmission path, that is, from bridge device 20, 22 and the AP device 33. From the point of view of the bridge device 20, the downlink traffic DL2 is then received from a port p1 and forwarded to another port p3.

[0042] FIG. 3A is a schematic diagram illustrating a control sequence for the roaming of the STA device 40. Furthermore, in order to facilitate the description of the control sequence of FIG. 3A, a DS 101 is defined as shown in FIG. 3B. Referring to both FIGS. 3A and 3B, the DS 101 may be a subset of the DS 100 in FIG. 2A, where the DS 101 in this embodiment may only include the bridge devices 20~22 and not include the AP devices 31~34.

[0043] In the beginning, the STA device 40 may send a request message m1 to the AP device 32 (i.e., the source AP device for the roaming) . The request message m1 indicates a “roaming request” , which is used to request the AP device 32 for the roaming.

[0044] In response to the request message m1, the AP device 32 may send a request message m2 to the AP device 33 (i.e., the target AP device for the roaming) . The request message m2 indicates a “DS update request” , which is used to request the target AP to trigger DS update.

[0045] In response to the request message m2, the AP device 33 may send out a trigger message m3. The trigger message m3 indicates a “DS update” , which is used to trigger the devices in the DS 101 (e.g., the bridge devices 20, 21 and 22) and the source AP to update their corresponding bridge tables. More particularly, the trigger message m3 may be implemented by the unicast packet UP in FIG. 2A, and such a trigger message m3 may be conveyed through a transmission path in the DS 101 between the AP device 33 and finally received by the AP device 32. That is, the trigger message m3 may be conveyed through the bridge devices 22, 20 and 21, and arrived at the AP device 32.

[0046] In response to the trigger message m3, the AP device 32 may sent a notification message m4 to the STA device 40. The notification message m4 indicates a “roaming done” , which is used to notify the STA device 40 that the STA device 40 is allowed to enable a new connection with the AP device 33.

[0047] Being notified by the AP device 32 with the notification message m4, the STA device 40 may send a request message m5 to the AP device 33. The request message m5 indicates an “add link” , which is used to request the AP device 33 to enable a new connection with the STA device 40. In some embodiments, the STA device 40 and the AP device 33 have already establish a connection before the message m5, in this situation, when the AP device 33 receives the message m5, it only need to active the established connection with the STA device 40. In other embodiments, the STA device 40 and the AP device 33 didn’ t establish a connection before the message m5, in this situation, when the AP device 33 receives the message m5, it may need to establish a new connection with the STA device 40 first and then active the established connection. After the AP device 33 enables the connection with the STA device 40, the STA device 40 may receive downlink traffic DL2 from the AP device 33 (as shown in FIG. 1B) . This roaming may be referred to as a “seamless roaming” in which data packet for STA device 40 will not lost during the roaming process.

[0048] FIG. 4A is a schematic diagram illustrating a packet structure of an exemplary unicast packet UP1. In some embodiments, the communication system 1000 may utilize a “layer-2 packet” as the unicast packet UP1. In the example of FIG. 4A, a “SNAP packet” is utilized as the unicast packet UP1. As shown in FIG. 4A, the unicast packet UP1 may have a packet structure including several fields: a “DA (Destination Address) ” field, a “SA (Source Address) ” field, a “Len (Length) ” field, a “LLC (Logical Link Control) ” field, a “SNAP (Subnetwork Access Protocol) ” field, a “Data” field and a “FCS (Frame Check Sequence) ” field.

[0049] More particularly, the “DA” field and “SA” field indicate a destination address and a source address of the unicast packet UP1, respectively. The “DA” field indicates a destination address pointing to the AP device 32 (i.e., the source AP device of the roaming) . On the other hand, the “SA” field indicates a source address pointing to the STA device 40. It means, the unicast packet UP1 is sent by the AP device 33 on behalf of STA device 40, and finally arrived at the AP device 32.

[0050] Furthermore, the “LLC” field indicates alogical link control address of the unicast packet UP1, such as “ {AA: AA: 03} ” . Moreover, the “SNAP” field indicates a subnetwork access protocol of the unicast packet UP1. In some embodiments, “SNAP” field also indicates OUI (organizationally unique identifier) of a manufacturer. In addition, the “Data” field includes a content representing an information of the “DS update” (which may correspond to the trigger message m3 of FIG. 3A) . In some embodiments, the “Data” field may indicate that, this unicast packet UP1 is utilized to trigger the update of bridge tables of the source AP device and the bridge devices in the DS100 or DS101.

[0051] FIG. 4B is a schematic diagram illustrating a packet structure of another exemplary unicast packet UP2. In the example of FIG. 4B, the communication system 1000 may utilize a traditional “DS update done packet” as the unicast packet UP2. In the traditional “DS update done packet” , the “SA” field includes a content pointing to the AP device 33 as the source address. In the example of FIG. 4B, the communication system 1000 may modify the “SA” field to point to the STA device 40 as the source address, to form the unicast packet UP2.

[0052] FIGS. 5A-1, 5A-2 and 5B are schematic diagrams illustrating a control mechanism for the roaming of the STA device 40, according to a comparative example. Firstly, referring to FIG. 5A-1, the communication system 1001 of this comparative example may utilize a broadcast packet BP to trigger the update of the bridge tables. The broadcast packet BP is initiated by the AP device 33 (i.e., the target AP device for the roaming) and broadcasted to each device in the DS 100 (i.e., each of the bridge devices 20~22 and the AP devices 31, 32 and 34) . The broadcast packet BP may have a source address pointing to the STA device 40.

[0053] Furthermore, regarding another comparative example in FIG. 5A-2, the communication system 1002 utilizes the STA device 40 to send the broadcast packet BP. In the comparative example in FIG. 5A-2, the broadcast packet BP may have a source address pointing to the STA device 40. In FIG. 5A-2, the broadcast packet BP is also broadcasted to each device in the DS 100 (i.e., each of the bridge devices 20~22 and the AP devices 31, 32 and 34) .

[0054] Compared with this comparative examples of FIG. 5A-1 and FIG. 5A-2, the communication system 1000 of the present disclosure (shown in FIG. 2A) utilizes a unicast packet UP to trigger the update of the bridge tables. Such a unicast packet UP is transmitted through the path between the target AP device (i.e., AP device 33) and the source AP device (i.e., AP device 32) , which needs not to be transmitted to other AP devices (e.g., 34 and 31) and other bridge devices that are not located in the path between the target AP device (i.e., AP device 33) and the source AP device (i.e., AP device 32) . Thus, compared with the comparative examples of FIG. 5A-1 and FIG. 5A-2, the method of the present disclosure can reduce power consumption.

[0055] Moreover, regarding yet another comparative example in FIG. 5B, the communication system 1003 includes the AP devices 31 and 32 which are wirelessly connected with the bridge device 21. Due to the behavior of the wireless connections between the AP devices 31 and 32 and the bridge device 21, broadcast packet BP and unicast packets (for example, the DL packets) may be allocated in different processing queues with different transmission priorities. Hence, the broadcast packets BP may not be transmitted in order when there are DL packets are transmitted in the same time in the communication system 1003. Therefore, erroneous updating results for the bridge tables may be caused. In addition, due to uncertainty of the wireless connections, re-transmission mechanism may be applied in case the broadcast packets BP are not correctly transmitted through the wireless connections. However, if the re-transmission time goes beyond a predefined upper limit, the broadcast packets BP won’ t be re-transmitted any more, which also lead to erroneous updating results for the bridge tables.

[0056] In contrast, as compared with the comparative example in FIG. 5B, the communication system 1000 of the present disclosure (shown in FIG. 2A) utilizes a single unicast packet UP for the update of the bridge tables. Such a single unicast packet UP is allocated in a single processing queue, hence the “out of order” risk for the broadcast packets BP in multiple processing queues is avoided.

[0057] Furthermore, the unicast packet UP usually has a greater value of upper limit for re-transmission time (i.e., greater than the upper limit for re-transmission time for the broadcast packets BP) . Accordingly, the unicast packet UP of this disclosure may be more successfully transmitted through the wireless connections between the bridge device 21 and he AP device 32, hence the bridge tables in the DS 100 may be more correctly updated.

[0058] FIGS. 6A and 6B are flow diagrams illustrating an operating method 600 for the communication system 1000 or 1003 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. The operating method is used to process the roaming of the STA device 40, and the operating method is performed by the source AP device (i.e., the AP device 32) and the target AP device (i.e., the AP device 33) for the roaming.

[0059] Firstly, referring to FIG. 6A, the operating method starts at step S602: getting the address of the STA device 40 and the address of the AP device 33, by the AP device 32. For example, when the AP device 32 receives a request message m1 from the STA device 40 (where the request message m1 indicates a “roaming request” ) , the AP device 32 may get the address of the STA device 40 and the address of the AP device 33 based on the request message m1.

[0060] Next, the operating method proceeds to step S604: transmitting a “DS update request” to the AP device 33, by the AP device 32. For example, the AP device 32 transmits a request message m2 to the AP device 33, and the request message m2 indicates the “DS update request” , which is used to request the target AP to trigger DS update. The “DS update request” is associated with the addresses of the STA device 40, the AP device32, and the AP device 33.

[0061] Next, the operating method proceeds to step S606: getting the address of the AP device 32 and the address of the STA device 40, by the AP device 33. For example, when the AP device 33 receives the request message m2 from the AP device 32, the AP device 33 may get the address of the AP device 32 and the address of the STA device 40 based on the request message m2.

[0062] Next, the operating method proceeds to step S608: transmitting a unicast packet UP, by the AP device 33. For example, the AP device 33 may provide a trigger message m3, which indicates a “DS update” used for updating the bridge table of each bridge device in the DS100 or DS 101. In some embodiments, the “DS update” is also used for updating the bridge table of the source AP device 32.

[0063] Next, referring to FIG. 6B, the operating method proceeds to step S610: receiving the unicast packet UP, by the AP device 32. It should be noted that, after the unicast packet UP is transmitted by the AP device 33, it goes through all the bridge devices between the AP device 33 and the AP device 32, and then be received by the AP device 32. After each of the bridge device receives the unicast packet, updating its bridge table for the STA device 40. In some embodiments, after the unicast packet is received by the AP device 32, the AP device 32 may consider the unicast packet (e.g., the “DS update” message) as a “DS update done” message, so in this disclosure, there is no need to transmit an independent “DS update done” message to the source AP device 32. In some embodiments, after the unicast packet is received by the AP device 32, the AP device 32 may update its bridge table for the STA device 40.

[0064] Next, the operating method proceeds to step S612: transmitting a notification message (e.g., m4) to the STA device 40, by the AP device 32, when the AP device 32 receives the unicast packet UP. The notification message may indicate a “roaming done” .

[0065] Next, the operating method proceeds to step S614: receiving a request message from the STA device 40 and enabling a new connection with the STA device 40, by the AP device 33. The request message (e.g., m5) indicates an “add link” , which is used to request the AP device 33 to enable a new connection with the STA device 40. In some embodiments, the STA device 40 and the AP device 33 have already establish a connection before the message m5, in this situation, when the AP device 33 receives the message m5, it only needs to active the established connection with the STA device 40. In other embodiments, the STA device 40 and the AP device 33 didn’ t establish a connection before the message m5, in this situation, when the AP device 33 receives the message m5, it may need to establish a new connection with the STA device 40 first and then active the established connection. After the AP device 33 enables the connection with the STA device 40, the STA device 40 performs data transmission through the connection with the AP device 33.

[0066] In some embodiments, after the AP device 32 transmits the notification message to the STA device 40 to indicate the “roaming done” , the AP device 32 may keep its connection with the STA device 40 or disconnecting its connection with the STA device 40.

[0067] FIGS. 7A, 7B and 7C are flow diagrams illustrating three operating methods for the communication system 1000 or 1003 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. The operating methods are used to process the roaming of the STA device 40, and the operating method 700 is performed by the source AP device (e.g., the AP device 32) , the operating method 800 is performed by the target AP device (e.g., the AP device 33) , and the operating method 900 is performed by each bridge device (e.g., each of the bridge device 20, 21and 22) .

[0068] Firstly, referring to FIG. 7A, the operating method starts at step S702: getting the address of the AP device 33, by the AP device 32 after receiving a request message from the STA device 40. For example, when the AP device 32 receives a request message m1 from the STA device 40 (where the request message m1 indicates a “roaming request” ) , the AP device 32 may get the address of the AP device 33 based on the request message m1. In some embodiments, the address of the STA device 40 is also carried in the request message from the STA device 40.

[0069] Next, the operating method proceeds to step S704: transmitting a “DS update request” to the AP device 33, by the AP device 32. For example, the AP device 32 transmits a request message m2 to the AP device 33, and the request message m2 indicates the “DS update request” . The “DS update request” is used for triggering the AP device 33 to transmit a trigger message to trigger the update of the bridge table of each bridge device of a plurality of bridge devices between the target AP device 33 and the source AP device 32.

[0070] Next, the operating method proceeds to step S706: receiving a unicast packet UP and updating its bridge table for the STA device 40, by the AP device 32. It should be noted that, the unicast packet UP (e.g., m3) is transmitted by the AP device 33, and after the unicast packet UP is transmitted by the AP device 33, it goes through all the bridge devices between the AP device 33 and the AP device 32, and then be received by the AP device 32 at step S706. After each of the bridge device receives the unicast packet, it updates its bridge table for the STA device 40. In some embodiments, after the unicast packet is received by the AP device 32, beside updating its bridge table for the STA device 40, the AP device 32 may also consider the unicast packet (e.g., the “DS update” message) as a “DS update done” message, so in this disclosure, there is no need to transmit an independent “DS update done” message to the source AP device 32.

[0071] Next, the operating method proceeds to step S708: transmitting a notification message to the STA device 40, by the AP device 32, after the AP device 32 updating its bridge table for the STA device 40. The notification message (e.g., m4) may indicate a “roaming done” .

[0072] In some embodiments, after the AP device 32 transmits the notification message to the STA device 40 to indicate the “roaming done” . The AP device 32 may keep its connection with the STA device 40 or disconnecting its connection with the STA device 40 after transmitting the notification message to the STA device 40.

[0073] Then, referring to FIG. 7B, the operating method 800 starts at step S802: receiving a request message (e.g., a “DS update request” ) from the AP device 32, by the AP device 33. In some embodiments, the AP device 33 may get the address of the AP device 32 after receiving the request message from the “DS update request” . For example, when the AP device 33 receives the request message m2 from the AP device 32, the AP device 33 may get the address of the AP device 32 and the address of the STA device 40 based on the request message m2.

[0074] Next, the operating method proceeds to step S804: transmitting a unicast packet UP, by the AP device 33 based on the “DS update request” . For example, the AP device 33 may provide a trigger message m3, which is a “DS update” message used for updating the bridge table of each bridge device in the path from the AP device 33 to the AP device 32 in the DS100 or DS 101. In some embodiments, the “DS update” message is also used for updating the bridge table of the AP device 32.

[0075] Next, the operating method proceeds to step S806: receiving a request message from the STA device 40 and enabling a connection with the STA device 40, by the AP device 33. The request message (e.g., m5) indicates an “add link” , which is used to request the AP device 33 to enable a connection with the STA device 40. In some embodiments, the STA device 40 and the AP device 33 have already establish a connection before the message m5, in this situation, after the AP device 33 receives the message m5, it only needs to active the established connection with the STA device 40. In other embodiments, the STA device 40 and the AP device 33 didn’ t establish a connection before the message m5, in this situation, when the AP device 33 receives the message m5, it may need to establish a new connection first and then active the established connection. After the AP device 33 enables the connection with the STA device 40, the STA device 40 performs data transmission through the connection with the AP device 33.

[0076] Then, referring to FIG. 7C, the operating method 900 starts at step S902: receiving a unicast packet UP. Wherein the unicast packet is used for triggering the update of the bridge table of each bridge device among the plurality of bridge devices between the AP device 33 and AP device 32. For example, the AP device 33 may provide a trigger message m3, which indicates a “DS update” used for updating the bridge table of each device between the AP device 33 and AP device 32 in the DS101 or DS100 and for updating the bridge table of the AP device 32. It should be noted that, after the unicast packet UP is transmitted by the AP device 33, it goes through all the bridge devices between the AP device 33 and the AP device 32, and then be received by the AP device 32.

[0077] Next, the operating method proceeds to step S904: updating a bridge table of the bridge device after receiving the unicast packet. In some embodiments, after each of the bridge device receives the unicast packet, it updates its bridge table for the STA device 40.

[0078] In some embodiments, after step S904, the operating method proceeds to step S906: transmitting the unicast packet to another bridge device or to the source AP device.

[0079] In some embodiments, the target AP device (e.g., the AP device 33) comprises a memory, a processor and a transceiver, wherein the memory is configured for storing codes, and the processor is configured to execute the following operations when executing the codes in the memory: receiving a request message from a source AP device for the roaming of the STA device through the transceiver; and transmitting a unicast packet through the transceiver based on the request message, wherein the unicast packet is used for triggering the update of the bridge table of each bridge device of a plurality of bridge devices between the target AP device and the source AP device.
