POLYMER, WATER DISPERSION OF POLYMER, AND THEIR USE IN COATING COMPOSITIONSINVENTION FIELD

[0001] The present invention relates to a polymer, a water dispersion of the polymer, and their use in coating compositions.BACKGROUND

[0002] Consumers have an increasingly demand on the appearance of coatings. Flip-flop effect refers to an optical effect that a coating containing an effect pigment, such as metallic flake pigments, such as aluminum powder, can exhibit colors with various lightness and hue at different viewing angles. Coatings with a high flip-flop effect show strong metallic texture under an irradiation of light source, and show rich changes in light-and-shade and hue with the viewing angle change, giving a luxurious and gorgeous visual impact. Therefore, how to improve the flip-flop effect of coatings is a research hotspot, which has an urgent practical need and potential commercial value.SUMMARY

[0003] The present inventors have conducted a lot of research and developed a polymer and a water dispersion of the polymer, which can be used in a coating composition for improving the flip-flop effect of coating and / or improving the orientation of aluminum powder in coating.

[0004] The present invention provides a polymer comprising a carbamate linkage and a phosphate functional group, wherein the phosphate functional group comprises a covalent bond to the polymer via a phosphate-containing monomer.

1.A polymer comprising a carbamate linkage and a phosphate functional group, wherein the phosphate functional group comprises a covalent bond to the polymer via a phosphate-containing monomer.2.The polymer according to claim 1, wherein a solid weight percentage of phosphorus in the polymer is not more than 0.6 wt%based on the weight of the polymer.3.The polymer according to claim 1 or 2, wherein the phosphate functional group comprises a covalent bond formed from reacting with an isocyanate group.4.The polymer according to any one of claims 1-3, further comprising an acrylate group.5.The polymer according to claim 4, wherein the phosphate functional group comprises a covalent bond to the acrylate group.6.The polymer according to any one of claims 1-5, further comprising an another anionic functional group, wherein the another anionic functional group comprises a carboxylic acid and / or sulfonic acid functional group.7.The polymer according to claim 6, wherein the another anionic functional group comprises a carboxylic acid functional group derived from dimethylolpropionic acid and / or dimethylolbutyric acid structures, and / or a sulfonic acid functional group derived from aminobenzene sulfonate, 2- [ (2-aminoethyl) amino] ethane sulfonate structures, neutralized with an amine.8.The polymer according to any one of claims 1-7, wherein the covalent bond to the polymer via the phosphate-containing monomer is obtained by steps of: reacting the phosphate-containing monomer with a polyamine via an addition reaction to form an intermediate compound, and then performing a chain extension on an isocyanate-terminated compound with the formed intermediate compound.9.The polymer according to any one of claims 1-8, wherein the phosphate-containing monomer comprises a phosphate-containing monomer having a double bond.10.The polymer according to any one of claims 4-9, wherein the covalent bond to the polymer via the phosphate-containing polymer is obtained by step of: copolymerizing the phosphate-containing monomer with an acrylate functional group.11.A water dispersion of polymer, comprising the polymer according to any one of claims 1-10.12.The water dispersion of polymer according to claim 11, wherein the polymer in the water dispersion has a particle size of 50-200 nm.13.A coating composition, comprising the polymer according to any one claims 1-10, or the water dispersion of polymer according to claim 11 or 12.14.Use of the polymer according to any one of claims 1-10 or the water dispersion of polymer according to claims 11 or 12 in a coating composition for improving the orientation of aluminum powder and / or increasing the FI value.15.The coating composition according to claim 13 or the use according to claim 14, wherein the coating composition is waterborne.16.A coated substrate, comprising a substrate and the coating composition according to claim 13 or 15 applied on at least a part of the substrate.17.A coated substrate having a coating comprising the polymer according to any one of claims 1-10, or the water dispersion of polymer according to claim 11 or 12.18.The coated substrate according to claim 16 or 17, wherein the substrate comprises metal and / or non-metal.19.The coated substrate according to any one of claims 16-18, wherein the coated substrate has a coating having no more than 0.4 wt%of phosphorus based on the solid weight of the coating.20.Use of covalently bonding a phosphate functional group to a polymer for improving the orientation of aluminum powder and / or increasing the FI value of a coating composition comprising the polymer.
