AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

In wireless communication networks, particularly 5G, configuring beam forming parameters for user equipment (UE) is challenging due to complex resource allocation and signaling complexities, making it difficult for base stations to properly signal configurations to the UE.

Method used

The UE receives downlink control indicators (DCI) with transport power control (TPC) commands for uplink component carriers (CCs), identifies configuration indicators for explicit indications or TPC sounding reference signal radio network temporary identifiers (TPC-SRS-RNTIs), and applies these commands to respective closed loop power control (CLPC) adjustment states based on the indicators.

Benefits of technology

This approach simplifies the configuration process, ensuring accurate and efficient power control for uplink transmissions, enhancing communication quality and reliability in 5G networks.

Description

METHODS AND APPARATUS FOR CONFIGURING UE BEHAVIOR FOR DCI FORMAT 2_3 RECEPTIONBACKGROUND

[0001] Aspects of the present disclosure relate generally to wireless communications, and more particularly, to apparatuses and methods for configuring user equipment (UE) behavior for downlink control indicator (DCI) format 2_3 reception.

[0002] Wireless communication networks are widely deployed to provide various types of communication content such as voice, video, packet data, messaging, broadcast, and so on. These systems may be multiple-access systems capable of supporting communication with multiple users by sharing the available system resources (e.g., time, frequency, and power) . Examples of such multiple-access systems include code-division multiple access (CDMA) systems, time-division multiple access (TDMA) systems, frequency-division multiple access (FDMA) systems, orthogonal frequency-division multiple access (OFDMA) systems, and single-carrier frequency division multiple access (SC-FDMA) systems.

[0003] These multiple access technologies have been adopted in various telecommunication standards to provide a common protocol that enables different wireless devices to communicate on a municipal, national, regional, and even global level. For example, a fifth generation (5G) wireless communications technology (which may be referred to as new radio (NR) ) is envisaged to expand and support diverse usage scenarios and applications with respect to current mobile network generations. In an aspect, 5G communications technology may include: enhanced mobile broadband addressing human-centric use cases for access to multimedia content, services and data; ultra-reliable-low latency communications (URLLC) with certain specifications for latency and reliability; and massive machine type communications, which may allow a very large number of connected devices and transmission of a relatively low volume of non-delay-sensitive information. As the demand for mobile broadband access continues to increase, however, further improvements in NR communications technology and beyond may be desired.

[0004] In a wireless communication network, beam forming has become a dominant technology for increasing data upload / download. Various parameters of the beams may need to be configured appropriately at the UE. However, signaling the configurations may not be obvious. Given the complexity and the timing of the resources allocated to the UE, it may be challenging for the base station (BS) to properly signal the configurations to the UE. Therefore, improvements may be desirable.SUMMARY

[0005] The following presents a simplified summary of one or more aspects in order to provide a basic understanding of such aspects. This summary is not an extensive overview of all contemplated aspects, and is intended to neither identify key or critical elements of all aspects nor delineate the scope of any or all aspects. Its sole purpose is to present some concepts of one or more aspects in a simplified form as a prelude to the more detailed description that is presented later.

[0026] The wireless communications system may further include a Wi-Fi access point (AP) 150 in communication with Wi-Fi stations (STAs) 152 via communication links 154 in a 5 GHz unlicensed frequency spectrum. When communicating in an unlicensed frequency spectrum, the STAs 152  / AP 150 may perform a clear channel assessment (CCA) prior to communicating in order to determine whether the channel is available.

[0027] The small cell 105’ may operate in a licensed and / or an unlicensed frequency spectrum. When operating in an unlicensed frequency spectrum, the small cell 105’ may employ NR and use the same 5 GHz unlicensed frequency spectrum as used by the Wi-Fi AP 150. The small cell 105’, employing NR in an unlicensed frequency spectrum, may boost coverage to and / or increase capacity of the access network.

[0028] A BS 105, whether a small cell 105’ or a large cell (e.g., macro base station) , may include an eNB, gNodeB (gNB) , or other type of base station. Some base stations, such as gNB 180 may operate in one or more frequency bands within the electromagnetic spectrum. The electromagnetic spectrum is often subdivided, based on  frequency / wavelength, into various classes, bands, channels, etc. In 5G NR two initial operating bands have been identified as frequency range designations FR1 (410 MHz –7.125 GHz) and FR2 (24.25 GHz –52.6 GHz) . The frequencies between FR1 and FR2 are often referred to as mid-band frequencies. Although a portion of FR1 is greater than 6 GHz, FR1 is often referred to (interchangeably) as a “Sub-6 GHz” band in various documents and articles. A similar nomenclature issue sometimes occurs with regard to FR2, which is often referred to (interchangeably) as a “millimeter wave” (mmW) band in documents and articles, despite being different from the extremely high frequency (EHF) band (30 GHz –300 GHz) which is identified by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) as a “millimeter wave” band.

[0029] With the above aspects in mind, unless specifically stated otherwise, it should be understood that the term “sub-6 GHz” or the like if used herein may broadly represent frequencies that may be less than 6 GHz, may be within FR1, or may include mid-band frequencies. Further, unless specifically stated otherwise, it should be understood that the term “millimeter wave” or the like if used herein may broadly represent frequencies that may include mid-band frequencies, may be within FR2, or may be within the EHF band. Communications using the mmW  / near mmW radio frequency band has extremely high path loss and a short range. The mmW base station 180 may utilize beamforming 182 with the UE 110 to compensate for the path loss and short range.

[0052] Also, for example, one or more filters 396 may be used by RF front end 388 to filter a received signal to obtain an input RF signal. Similarly, in an aspect, for example, a respective filter 396 may be used to filter an output from a respective PA 398 to produce an output signal for transmission. In an aspect, each filter 396 may be coupled with a specific LNA 390 and / or PA 398. In an aspect, RF front end 388 may use one or more switches 392 to select a transmit or receive path using a specified filter 396, LNA 390, and / or PA 398, based on a configuration as specified by transceiver 302 and / or processor 312.

[0053] As such, transceiver 302 may be configured to transmit and receive wireless signals through one or more antennas 365 via RF front end 388. In an aspect, transceiver may be tuned to operate at specified frequencies such that BS 105 may communicate with, for example, the UE 110 or one or more cells associated with one or more BS 105. In an aspect, for example, the modem 320 may configure transceiver 302 to operate at a specified frequency and power level based on the base station configuration of the BS 105 and the communication protocol used by the modem 320.

[0054] In an aspect, the modem 320 may be a multiband-multimode modem, which may process digital data and communicate with transceiver 302 such that the digital data is sent and received using transceiver 302. In an aspect, the modem 320 may be multiband  and be configured to support multiple frequency bands for a specific communications protocol. In an aspect, the modem 320 may be multimode and be configured to support multiple operating networks and communications protocols. In an aspect, the modem 320 may control one or more components of the BS 105 (e.g., RF front end 388, transceiver 302) to enable transmission and / or reception of signals from the network based on a specified modem configuration. In an aspect, the modem configuration may be based on the mode of the modem and the frequency band in use. In another aspect, the modem configuration may be based on base station configuration associated with the BS 105.

[0055] FIGs. 4A-B illustrate tables of DCI 1_0 fields in common search space. Specifically, FIG. 4A shows a first table 400 of DCI fields and the number of bits for DCI 1_0 scrambled by Cell Radio Network Temporary Identifier (C-RNTI) and FIG. 4B shows a second table 450 of DCI fields and the number of bits for DCI 1_0 scrambled by System Information Radio Network Temporary Identifier (SI-RNTI) .

[0056] Aspects of the present disclosure may be applicable to uplink (UL) component carriers (CCs) where the physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) is not configured (for sounding reference signal (SRS) carrier switching) , or in the case of independent SRS power control for PUSCH.

[0057] In some aspects, downlink control information (DCI) format 2_3 is a group-common DCI with cyclic redundancy check (CRC) scrambled with a transport power control (TPC) SRS radio network temporary identifier (TPC-SRS-RNTI) , where the DCI may include multiple blocks, and the starting position of a block may be configured per user equipment (UE) .

[0058] A DCI format 2_3 may include a number of blocks. The payload  / fields of each block may depend on whether the SRS request field is included or not, and / or whether it is TypeA or TypeB (configured by SRS TPC physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) group (srs-TPC-PDCCH group) . For TypeA, the UE does not expect the SRS request field to be absent. Each block includes an SRS request field (2 bits and 0 bit is not expected) and the N TPC command field (2xN bits) . Each TPC command applies to a respective UL carrier provided by the radio resource control (RRC) parameter cc-IndexInOneCC-Set, where the cc-IndexInOneCC-Set corresponds to a set of CCs indicated by the SRS request field. The SRS request field may be configured optionally  by the RRC parameter “fieldTypeFormat2-3, ” which may be two bits. For TypeB, each block may include an SRS request field (0 or 2 bits) and / or a TPC command field (2 bits) .

[0059] In certain aspects of the present disclosure, the size of the DCI format 1_0 in common search space may be determined as follows. The UE may determine DCI format 1_0 monitored in a common search space, where may be given by 1) the size of CORESET 0, if CORESET 0 is configured for the cell, and 2) the size of initial DL bandwidth part if CORESET 0 is not configured for the cell. If CORESET 0 is configured for the cell, the minimum number of resource blocks (RBs) across all CORESET 0 configurations that can be indicated by the MIB may be 12 RBs, and the maximum number of RBs across all CORESET 0 configurations that can be indicated by the MIB may be 96 RBs. Therefore, the number of bits for the Frequency Domain Resource Assignment (FDRA) field is 7 to 13 bits. If CORESET 0 is not configured, the number of RBs configured for the initial DL BWP may be 0 ~ 275. Therefore, the number of bits for FDRA field is 0 ~ 16 bits.

[0060] An aspect of the present disclosure may include how to indicate TPC command for those two SRS closed loop power control (CLPC) adjustment states through DCI when the UE is configured with two SRS CLPC adjustment states, which is down-select from the following options. Option 1 may include enhancing the legacy DCI format 2_3 of higher layer parameter srs-TPC-PDCCH-Group = TypeA. Option 2 may include enhancing the legacy DCI format 2_3 of higher layer parameter srs-TPC-PDCCH-Group = TypeB. Option 3 may include enhancing the legacy DCI format 2_3 of higher layer parameter srs-TPC-PDCCH-Group = TypeA and TypeB. Option 4 may include enhancing DCI format 1_1 and / or 0_1 to indicate TPC for SRS CLPC adjustment states. Option 5 may include enhancing the legacy DCI format 2_3 by introducing a Type for higher layer parameter srs-TPC-PDCCH-Group. Option 6 may include implementing a DCI format to indicate TPC for SRS CLPC adjustment states. Other options may also be implemented.

[0061] Some aspects include the following alternatives to indicate TPC command. In DCI format 2_3, a first alternative (Alt. 1) includes adding one additional TPC command for each CC configured with two SRS CLPC adjustment states. The first TPC command  is associated with the first SRS CLPC adjustment state and the second TPC command is associated with the second SRS CLPC adjustment state.

[0062] In some aspects of the present disclosure, a second alternative (Alt. 2) introduces one 1-bit closed-loop-indicator field for each TPC command in DCI format 2_3. This 1-bit closed-loop-indicator indicates the first SRS CLPC adjustment state or the second SRS CLPC adjustment state.

[0063] Some aspects of the present disclosure include a third alternative (Alt. 3) , which uses two different TPC-SRS-RNTIs for DCI format 2_3. DCI format 2_3 with CRC scrambled with the first TPC-SRS-RNTI and the second TPC-SRS-RNTI each indicates the TPC command for the first SRS CLPC adjustment state and the second SRS CLPC adjustment state, respectively. In some aspects, a fourth alternative (Alt. 4) includes using indicators based on frame or slot numbers where the DCI test rates are received, and / or based on a SRS request.

[0064] FIG. 5 illustrates a table 500 of DCI 2_3 fields and number of bits for each type. An analysis of DCI format 2_3 size is as follows. Specifically, the required DCI format size for a single UE is analyzed with the following assumptions: the maximum number of CCs is 16, each CC is configured with two separate CLPC adjustment states, for TypeB, 16 blocks are configured to indicate the TPC commands for the 16 CCs, and for TypeA, one block is configured and the block includes the TPC commands for a set of CCs (maximum number of CCs in a set of CCs is 8) .

[0065] In some aspects, for TypeB DCI operating under Alt. 1, each block may include two TPC command fields (each with 2 bits) . For Alt 2, each block may include 1 closed-loop-indicator field (1 bit ) + 1 TPC command field (2 bits) .

[0066] In other aspects, for TypeA DCI operating under Alt. 1, one block with one SRS request field (2 bits ) + 16 TPC command fields (each with 2 bits) may be included. For Alt. 2, one block with one SRS request field (2 bits ) + 8 closed-loop-indicator (1 bit) and TPC command fields (2 bits) may be included.

[0067] Based on the above, aspects of the present disclosure may include one or more of the following. For Alt. 1, when the size of DCI format 2_3 is less than 34 bits, for a single UE, the TPC commands may not fit into the DCI format 2_3 for both TypeA and TypeB. As such, Alt. 1 may not be suitable considering the TPC commands of a single UE may  not fit into both TypeA and TypeB DCI format 2_3 in some cases. For Alt. 1, in some cases, e.g., when CORESET0 is configure on a cell, the TPC commands for a single UE may fit into TypeA DCI format 2_3. For TypeB, the TPC commands for a single UE may not fit into the DCI format 2_3.

[0068] In certain aspects, for Alt. 2, for TypeA, the TPC commands of a single UE may fit into the DCI format 2_3. For TypeB, the TPC commands for a single UE may not fit into the DCI format 2_3.

[0069] In an aspect, for Alt. 3 and Alt. 4, for Type A, the TPC commands of a single UE may fit into the DCI format 2_3. For TypeB, the TPC command for a single UE may not fit into the DCI format 2_3 when the size of DCI format 2_3 is less than 32 bits.

[0070] In one aspect, for Alt. 3 / Alt. 4 vs Alt. 2, although Alt. 3 / Alt. 4 have less overhead for one CC, the flexibility may be limited since in one DCI format 2_3, the TPC command is always applied to a same CLPC adjustment state across multiple UEs. However, for Alt. 2, for different UEs, the TPC command in one DCI format 2_3 may be applied to different CLPC adjustment states. Therefore, it may be desirable to use a flexible signaling system as described below.

[0071] In a first scheme of the present disclosure, if the UE 110 receives DCI format 2_3 indicating one or more TPC commands for one or more UL CCs where each of the one or more TPC commands is associated with an uplink (UL) component carriers (CCs) of one or more uplink (UL) component carriers (CCs) , and at least one of the one or more UL CCs is configured with two separate CLPC adjustment states, for the one or two TPC commands associated with the at least one UL CC, the UE 110 may be configured to use the explicit indication in DCI format 2_3 (e.g., Alt. 1 and / or Alt. 2) or the TPC-SRS-RNTI scrambled to DCI format 2_3 (Alt. 3) to identify each of the one or two TPC command is being applied to which of the two separate CLPC adjustment states. The first scheme may be supported for TypeA DCI format 2_3, TypeB DCI format 2_3, or both TypeA and TypeB DCI format 2_3. If the first scheme is not supported for a given Type, whether to use the explicit indication in DCI format 2_3 (Alt. 1 / Alt. 2) or the TPC-SRS-RNTI scrambled to DCI format 2_3 (Alt. 3) to determine each of the one or two TPC command may be applied to which of the two separate CLPC adjustment states may be hardcoded or predefined for that the given type.

[0072] In some aspects, the determination to use the explicit indication in DCI format 2_3 (Alt. 1 / Alt. 2) or the TPC-SRS-RNTI scrambled to DCI format 2_3 (Alt. 3) may be configured by RRC. A first aspect may be based on whether the second TPC-SRS-RNTI is configured or not for a cell group. If the second TPC-SRS-RNTI is configured for a cell group, for each UL CC belonging to the cell group, the TPC-SRS-RNTI (e.g., the first TPC-SRS-RNTI or the second TRP-SRS-RNTI) scrambled to DCI format 2_3 may be used to identify the TPC command is being applied to which of the two separate CLPC adjustment states.

[0073] A second aspect may be based on a RRC parameter. The RRC parameter may be used to enable or disable the second TPC-SRS-RNTI. If the second TPC-SRS-RNTI is disabled, the explicit indication in DCI format 2_3 may be used to determine the TPC command is being applied to which of the CLPC adjustment states. If the second TPC-SRS-RNTI is enabled, the TPC-SRS-RNTI (e.g., the first TPC-SRS-RNTI or the second TPC-SRS-RNTI) scrambled to DCI format 2_3 is used to identify the TPC command is being applied to which of the CLPC adjustment states. In a first implementation with the RRC parameter, the RRC parameter may be configured on the CC where DCI format 2_3 is monitored. In this case, the RRC parameter may be used to enable or disable the second TPC-SRS-RNTI for DCI format 2_3 monitored on that CC. In a second implementation, the RRC parameter may be configured per UL CC.

[0074] In some aspects relating to the RRC parameter, the RRC parameter may be configured when the UE 110 is configured to monitor DCI format 2_3 for that UL CC, e.g., when SRS-CarrierSwitching and / or SRS-TPC-CommandConfig is configured for that UL CC. The RRC parameter may be configured in the SRS-CarrierSwitching information element (IE) or the SRS-TPC-CommandConfig IE. For the UL CCs that are configured with a same monitoring cell for DCI format 2_3, the UE 110 may not expect to receive a different RRC parameter value on whether to enable or disable the second TPC-SRS-RNTI.

[0075] In some aspects of the first scheme, the UE 110 may indicate whether to support Alt. 1 / Alt. 2 or Alt. 3, or both through UE capability. In a first aspect, the UE 110 may indicate to support Alt. 1 / Alt. 2 as the baseline capability. In this case, the baseline UE capability may be defined to include support to use the explicit indication in DCI format  2_3 to determine the TPC command is being applied to which of the two separate CLPC adjustment states. In one example, the first scheme may include the UE 110 supporting only one TPC-SRS-RNTI. In a second aspect of the first scheme, the UE 110 may indicate to support Alt. 3 as the baseline capability. In this case, the baseline UE capability may be defined to include support to use the TPC-SRS-RNTI (e.g., the first TPC-SRS-RNTI or the second TPC_SRS-RNTI) scrambled to DCI format 2_3 to determine the TPC command is applied to which of the two separate CLPC adjustment states. Here, the first scheme may include the UE 110 supporting two TPC-SRS-RNTIs.

[0076] In some aspects of the first scheme, if the UE 110 indicates to support only one Alt., the RRC configuration described above may not be necessary. If the UE 110 indicates to support both, which one (Alt. 1 / Alt. 2 or Alt. 3) to use can be configured by RRC as discussed above. The UE 110 may indicate to support Alt. 1 / Alt. 2 or Alt. 3, or both, which may be conditioned on the UE 110 supporting two separate CLPC adjustment states.

[0077] In a second scheme of the present disclosure, if the UE 110 receives DCI format 2_3 indicating TPC commands for one or more UL CCs where each of the one or more TPC commands is associated with an uplink (UL) component carriers (CCs) of one or more uplink (UL) component carriers (CCs) , and at least one UL CC is configured with two separate CLPC adjustment states, for the one or two TPC commands associated with the at least one UL CC, the UE 110 may be configured to use the explicit indication in DCI format 2_3 (e.g., Alt. 1 / Alt. 2) or the implicit method (e.g., Alt. 4) to determine the each of the one or two TPC commands is applied to which of the two separate CLPC adjustment states. For the implicit method, the UE 110 may identify the TPC command is applied to which one of the CLPC adjustment state based on the frame / slot number where the DCI format 2_3 is received or based on SRS request field in the corresponding block. The second scheme may be supported for TypeA DCI format 2_3, for TypeB DCI format 2_3, or both TypeA and TypeB DCI format 2_3. If the above is not supported for a given type, whether to use the explicit indication in DCI format 2_3 (Alt. 1 / Alt. 2) or the implicit method (Alt. 4) to determine the TPC command is being applied to which of the two separate CLPC adjustment states may be hardcoded or predefined for that the given Type.

[0078] In certain aspects, the identification to use the explicit indication in DCI format 2_3 or the implicit method may be configured by RRC. In a first option, the determination may be based on whether a frame pattern or slot pattern is configured or not. If the frame pattern or slot pattern for DCI 2_3 monitoring is configured, the implicit method (Alt. 4) based on the frame / slot pattern may be used; otherwise, the explicit indication in DCI format 2_3 (Alt. 1 / Alt. 2) is used.

[0079] In some aspect, the determination to use the explicit indication in DCI format 2_3 or the implicit method may be based on a RRC parameter. The RRC parameter may be used to enable or disable the implicit method. If the implicit method is disabled, the explicit indication in DCI format 2_3 may be used to determine the TPC command is being applied to which of the two separate CLPC adjustment states. If the implicit method is enabled, the implicit method is used to determine the TPC command is being applied to which of the two separate CLPC adjustment states.

[0080] In a first aspect of the second scheme, the RRC parameter may be configured on the CC where DCI format 2_3 is monitored. In this case, the RRC parameter may be used to enable or disable the implicit method for DCI format 2_3 monitored on that CC. In a second aspect of the second scheme, the RRC parameter may be configured per UL CC. The RRC parameter may be configured when the UE 110 is configured to monitor DCI format 2_3 for that UL CC, e.g., when SRS-CarrierSwitching and / or SRS-TPC-CommandConfig is configured for that UL CC. The RRC parameter may be configured in the SRS-CarrierSwitching IE or the SRS-TPC-CommandConfig IE. For the UL CCs that are configured with a same monitoring cell for DCI format 2_3, the UE 110 may not expect to receive a different RRC parameter value on whether enable or disable the implicit method.

[0081] In an aspect of the second scheme, the UE 110 may indicate whether to support Alt. 1 / Alt. 2 or Alt. 4, or both through UE capability. In a second aspect of the second scheme, the UE 110 may indicate to support Alt. 4 as the baseline capability. In this case, the baseline UE capability may be  defined to include support to use implicit method to determine the TPC command is applied to which of the two separate CLPC adjustment states.

[0082] In some aspects of the first scheme, if the UE 110 indicates to support only one Alt., the RRC configuration described above may not necessary. If the UE 110 indicates to support both, which one (Alt. 1 / Alt. 2 or Alt. 4) to use can be configured by RRC as discussed above. The UE 110 may indicate to support Alt. 1 / Alt. 2 or Alt. 4, or both, which may be conditioned on the UE 110 supporting two separate CLPC adjustment states.
