[0014] Figure 4 shows a flowchart of an example method of wireless communication in accordance with some embodiments of the disclosed technology.DETAILED DESCRIPTION

[0015] The example headings for the various sections below are used to facilitate the understanding of the disclosed subject matter and do not limit the scope of the claimed subject  matter in any way. Accordingly, one or more features of one example section can be combined with one or more features of another example section. Furthermore, 5G terminology is used for the sake of clarity of explanation, but the techniques disclosed in the present document are not limited to 5G technology only, and may be used in wireless systems that implemented other protocols.

[0016] The new radio (NR) technology of fifth generation (5G) mobile communication systems is continuously improved to provide higher quality wireless communication. In a multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) communication system operated in frequency-division-duplexing (FDD) mode, typically a wireless device (e.g., a UE) may measure downlink (DL) channel state information (CSI) through a CSI-RSs, a DL reference signal, and feed back the CSI to a network device (e.g., a BS) . The CSI can include at least one of: a CSI-RS resource indicator (CRI) , a channel quality indicator (CQI) , a spatial domain (SD) basis indicator, a rank indicator (RI) , a layer indicator (LI) , a precoding matrix indicator (PMI) , or a channel quality indicator (CQI) . Among these CSI quantities, PMI may reflect the DL channel response and cost a highest reporting overhead. Typically, PMI reporting may be based on a predefined codebook.

[0017] As the MIMO technology develops, more and more antenna ports are deployed on the network device (e.g., BS) side to enable higher-throughput transmission. Consequently, a CSI-RS containing more antenna ports is needed to perform DL channel measurement and CSI reporting. If no enhancement is introduced for current CSI-RS resources, i.e., the number of antenna ports is not increased for a CSI-RS resource, then more than one CSI-RS resources need to be aggregated to enable the DL channel measurement and CSI reporting. In the CSI-RS resource aggregation, reuse of part of a configured CSI-RS resource for legacy UEs which do not support an extended number of antenna ports need to be considered. Additionally or alternatively, the hybrid beamforming is an efficient tradeoff between complexity and performance to support more antenna ports. To perform hybrid beamforming, the network device can transmit multiple CSI-RSs using multiple respective analog beams. Then a UE can select one or more CSI-RSs and report a set of report quantities (including one or more of, e.g., a CRI, a CQI, an RI, a SD basis indicator, a PMI) corresponding to each selected CSI-RS. In this case, reporting overhead reduction needs to be considered, e.g., differential CQI reporting. To address these and other technical problems to support CSI reporting with more antenna ports, the present document describes techniques including CSI-RS configuration, CSI-RS port indexing, CQI computation assumptions, and CQI reporting overhead reduction. One or more of these techniques or aspects of the present document may be combined to achieve or improve  CSI reporting in high density antenna wireless communication involving a large number of antenna ports, e.g., more than 32 antenna ports. Merely by way of example, one or more of these techniques or aspects of the present document may alone or be combined to achieve or improve CSI reporting high density antenna wireless communication involving 36 antenna ports, 48 antenna ports, 64 antenna ports, 72 antenna ports, 96 antenna ports, 128 antenna ports, or more than 32 antenna ports, or more than 128 antenna ports.

[0018] As used herein, “UE” can include or be equivalent to a wireless device, or referred to as a wireless communication device.

[0031] An aspect of the present document relates to CSI-RS configuration to support CSI reporting in high density antenna wireless communication involving a large number of antenna ports. In some scenarios, the codebook type in the CSI reporting configuration signaling may be configured as ‘Doppler CSI' , and the CSI-RS resource setting in the CSI reporting configuration signaling may be aperiodic. The CSI reporting configuration signaling may include a CSI-RS resource setting. In some embodiments, the CSI-RS resource setting can contain Kg CSI-RS resource groups, and each of the Kg CSI-RS resource groups can contain up to I CSI-RS resources. For example, Kg is 4, 8, or 12, and I is up to 4. As another example, Kg is up to 4, and I is 4, 8, or 12.

[0032] In some embodiments, a CSI-RS resource group (e.g., each of the Kg CSI-RS resource groups) may correspond to a CSI-RS resource set. In some embodiments, the Kg CSI-RS resource groups correspond to a same CSI-RS resource set. In some embodiments, all CSI-RS resources in the Kg CSI-RS groups may be triggered by a same triggering instance. In some embodiments, CSI-RS resources in a CSI-RS group of the Kg CSI-RS groups may be triggered by a same triggering instance. In some embodiments, the Kg CSI-RS groups may be triggered by different triggering instances. In some embodiments, CSI-RS resources in the Kg CSI-RS resource groups may be transmitted in ascending or descending order of identifiers (IDs) of the CSI-RS resources (e.g., in a sequence that either ascends or descends based on the numerical values of the IDs of the CSI-RS resources) . In some embodiments, the Kg CSI-RS resource groups may be transmitted in ascending or descending order of IDs of first CSI-RS resources in the Kg CSI-RS resource groups (e.g., in a sequence that either ascends or descends based on the numerical values of the IDs of the first CSI-RS resources in the Kg CSI-RS resource groups) . In some embodiments, for one of the Kg CSI-RS resource groups, CSI-RS resources of the CSI-RS resource group may be transmitted in ascending or descending order of IDs of the CSI-RS resources (e.g., in a sequence that either ascends or descends based on the numerical values of the IDs of the CSI-RS resources in each of the Kg CSI-RS resource groups) .

[0034] In some embodiments, for a CSI-RS resource group (e.g., each of the Kg CSI-RS resource groups) , a time interval between transmission of the first symbol of the first CSI-RS resource in the CSI-RS resource group and the last symbol of the last CSI-RS resource in the CSI-RS resource group can be no longer than X symbols. The parameter X may be a predetermined integer, configured via an RRC parameter, or determined based on a count of CSI-RS resources in the CSI-RS resource group. Merely by way of example, X may be 2, 3, 4, 6, 14, or 28. In some embodiments, each CSI-RS resource group of the Kg CSI-RS resource groups may include a same number of CSI-RS resources. In some embodiments, for a CSI-RS group (e.g., each of the Kg CSI-RS resource groups) , a time interval between transmission of two consecutive CSI-RS resources may be Y symbols and / or up to Z symbols. Either one or each of Y or Z may be a predetermined integer or configured via an RRC parameter. For example, Y can be a predefined value, e.g., 1, 2, or 3…As another example, Z can be a predefined value, e.g., 1, 2, or 3…In some embodiments, for a CSI-RS group (e.g., each of the Kg CSI-RS resource groups) , CSI-RS resources of the group may be transmitted across consecutive symbol (s) . In some embodiments, for a CSI-RS group (e.g., each of the Kg CSI-RS resource groups) , CSI-RS resources of the group may be transmitted over same symbol (s) .

[0035] In some embodiments, for the Kg CSI-RS resource groups, a time interval between transmissions of a first symbol of a j-th CSI-RS resource in a first CSI-RS resource group and a last symbol of a j-th CSI-RS resource in a last CSI-RS resource group may be up to X symbols. The parameter X may be a predetermined integer, configured via an RRC parameter, or determined based on the number of CSI-RS resource groups Kg. Merely by way of example, X may be 2, 3, 4, 6, 14, or 28. In some embodiments, for the Kg CSI-RS resource groups, a time interval between transmission of j-th CSI-RS resources in two consecutive CSI-RS resource groups may be Y symbols and / or up to Z symbols. Either one or each of Y or Z may be a predetermined integer or configured via an RRC parameter. For example, Y can be a predefined value, e.g., 1, 2, or 3…As another example, Z can be a predefined value, e.g., 1, 2, or 3…In some embodiments, j-th CSI-RS resources in the Kg CSI-RS resource groups may be transmitted across consecutive symbol (s) . In some embodiments, j-th CSI-RS resources in the Kg CSI-RS resource groups may be transmitted over same symbol (s) .

[0036] In some embodiments, the CSI reporting configuration signaling may include a CSI-RS resource setting. The CSI-RS resource setting may include a CSI-RS resource set. The CSI-RS resource set may include up to K CSI-RS resources. Merely by way of example, K =4. The CSI-RS resources in the CSI-RS resource set may be transmitted in ascending or descending order of IDs of the CSI-RS resources (e.g., in a sequence that either ascends or descends based on the numerical values of the IDs of the CSI-RS resources) . A time interval between transmission of a first symbol of a first CSI-RS resource and a last symbol of a last CSI-RS resource in the CSI-RS resource set may be up to X symbols. Merely by way of example, X may be a predefined value, e.g., 4, 8, 14, or 28, a parameter configured via RRC (or referred to as an RRC parameter) , or determined by a count of CSI-RS resources in the CSI-RS resource set. A time interval between transmission of two consecutive CSI-RS resources of the CSI-RS resource set is Y symbols and / or up to Z symbols. Either one or each of Y or Z may be a predetermined integer or configured via an RRC parameter. For example, Y can be a predefined value, e.g., 1, 2, or 3…As another example, Z can be a predefined value, e.g., 1, 2, or 3…In some embodiments, the CSI-RS resources in the CSI-RS resource set may be transmitted across consecutive symbol (s) . In some embodiments, the CSI-RS resources in the CSI-RS resource set may be transmitted across same symbol (s) .

[0037] An aspect of the present document relates to CSI-RS port indexing. In existing technology, the CSI-RS ports / antenna ports are indexed within only one CSI-RS resources. For example, the association between the antenna port index and the sequence index in a code division multiplexing (CDM) group may be determined according to clause 7.4.1.5 in TS 38.214.

[0038] In some embodiments of the present document, the one or more CSI-RSs transmitted from the network device to the wireless device for, e.g., channel measurement, may correspond to one or more CSI-RS resources. When more than one CSI-RS resources are aggregated to support CSI reporting in high density antenna wireless communication involving a large number of antenna ports, the antenna ports may need to be indexed across multiple CSI-RS resources. The association between the antenna port index and the sequence index s in a CDM group of a CSI-RS resource can be determined. The antenna port index of one of the antenna ports is determined by at least one of:

[0039] - a CSI-RS resource identifier (ID) ;

[0040] - a CSI-RS resource index k , k belonging to {0, 1, …, K-1} or {1, 2, …, K} , and K being a count of the plurality of CSI-RS resources;

[0041] - a count of antenna ports in each of one or more CSI-RS resources for transmitting the  one or more CSI-RSs P;

[0042] - a total count of antenna ports in the one or more CSI-RS resources Psum;

[0043] - the count of the one or more CSI-RS resources K, where K=Psum / P;

[0044] - a code division multiplexing (CDM) group size L;

[0045] - a count of CDM groups in each CSI-RS resource NCDM, where NCDM=P / L

[0046] - a CDM group index j, j=0, 1, …, N /  (L-1) ;

[0047] - a CDM group index in a k-th CSI-RS jk;

[0048] - a sequence index s, s=0, 1, …, L-1;

[0049] - a sequence index in a k-th CSI-RS sk;

[0050] - a number N1, or

[0051] - a number N2, N1 and N2 being two integers configured with the CSI reporting configuration signaling.

[0052] For example, an antenna port index of one of the antenna ports is determined by at least one of: 3000+s+jL+kP,   (3)

[0053] or

[0054] In high density antenna wireless communication as described in the present document, Psum may be 36, 48, 64, 72, 96, 128, or more than 32, or more than 64, or more than 96, or more than 128, or between 32 and 128. The CSI-RS resources may be indexed in ascending or descending order of: CSI-RS resource IDs, or time or frequencies allocated to the CSI-RS resources (e.g., in a sequence that either ascends or descends based on the numerical values of the IDs of the CSI-RS resources, or the allocated time or the frequencies) .

[0055] An aspect of the present document relates to CQI computation assumptions. For CSI reporting to support high density antenna wireless communication involving a large number of antenna ports, the CQI may be determined based on an assumption of a  precoding / layer mapping procedure. For a symbol i, the precoding / layer mapping procedure can be determined by a matrix Y (i) denoting signals transmitted on antenna ports [3000, …, 3000+P-1] of each of K CSI-RS resources, a precoding matrix W (i) denoting a precoding matrix, and a matrix X (i) denoting a vector of PDSCH symbols for 1 to v layers. P denotes a count of antenna ports in each of the K CSI-RS resources. The precoding / layer mapping procedure can be expressed as Y (i) =W (i) X (i) .  (7)

[0056] A first portion (e.g., a half) of rows of W (i) can be associated with a first polarization, and a second portion (e.g., a half) of rows of W (i) can be associated with a second polarization. The first polarization may be different from the second polarization.

[0057] As a component of Y (i) , a signal transmitted on the antenna port (3000+p-1) of the k-th CSI-RS resource can be expressed as in which p denotes an antenna port index related value, p=0, 1, …, P-1, P denotes a count of antenna ports in each of the K CSI-RS resources, and k denotes a CSI-RS resource index, k=1, 2, …, K.

[0058] When K=1, it falls back to legacy CSI reporting only supporting few antenna ports (e.g., up to 32 antenna ports) . The precoding / layer mapping procedure may be expressed as

[0059] where

[0060] and

[0061] For CSI reporting to support more antenna ports, a permutation order of  in Y (i) is determined by at least one of:

[0062] - the antenna port index or a related value (3000+p-1) , (p-1) , or p;

[0063] - the CSI-RS resource index k;

[0064] - the count of the CSI-RS resources K

[0065] - the count of antenna ports P in each of the K CSI-RS resources;

[0066] - a count of all antenna ports Psum in the K CSI-RS resources, where Psum=KP;

[0067] - a number N1,

[0068] - a number N2, N1 and N2 being two integers configured with the CSI reporting configuration  signaling; or

[0069] - a count of antenna ports P0.

[0070] The K CSI-RS resources may be ordered with ascending / descending CSI-RS resource IDs or allocated frequencies or time.

[0071] The antenna ports {3000, 3001, …, 3000+P-1} in a k-th CSI-RS resource of the K CSI-RS resources may be re-indexed as {3000, 3001, …, 3000+KP-1} according to the permutation order of the antenna ports in Y (i) , k being 1, …, K. For example, an antenna port index in the KCSI-RS resources may be determined according to (3000+s+jL) , s denoting a sequence index, j denoting a CDM group index, and L denoting a CDM group size. Merely by way of example, s is the sequence index provided by Tables 7.4.1.5.3-2 to 7.4.1.5.3-5, and L∈ {1, 2, 4, 8} is the CDM group size, P is the number of CSI-RS ports, and The CDM group index j given in Table 7.4.1.5.3-1 of TS 38.214 corresponds to the time / frequency locations for a given row of the table.

[0072] The can be first ordered in ascending or descending order based on the CSI-RS resource index k (e.g., the numerical value of the CSI-RS resource index k) , and then ordered in ascending or descending order based on the antenna port index (3000+p-1) (e.g., the numerical value of the antenna port index (3000+p-1) ) for a same k. TheY (i) can be expressed as:

[0073] In some embodiments, Y (i) may be divided into two portions. One or each of the two portions of Y (i) may be determined by signal (s) on one or more antenna ports in each of the K CSI-RS resources. In each of the two portions of Y (i) , the can be first ordered in ascending or descending order based on the CSI-RS resource index k (e.g., the numerical value of the CSI-RS resource index k) , and then ordered in ascending or descending order based on the  antenna port index (3000+p-1) (e.g., the numerical value of the antenna port index (3000+p-1) ) for a same k. For example, a first portion of Y (i) may be determined by:

[0074] and a second portion of Y (i) is determined by:

[0075] in which the CSI-RS resource index k=1, 2, …, K.

[0076] As another example, a first portion of Y (i) may be determined by:

[0077] and a second portion of Y (i) is determined by:

[0078] in which the CSI-RS resource index k=1, 2, …, K.

[0079] As a further example, Y (i) can be expressed as:

[0080] in which a first portion  may be expressed as:

[0081] and a second portion  may be expressed as:

[0082] As a still further example, each of the two portions of Y (i) may be further divided into N1 groups. N1 may be an integer configured with the CSI reporting configuration signaling.  A sub vector corresponding to each of the N1 groups may include signals on one or more antenna ports of each of the K CSI-RS resources. An n-th group of a first portion of the two portions of Y (i) may be determined by:

[0084] in which the CSI-RS resource index k=1, 2, …, K.

[0085] For each of the N1 groups,  may be first ordered in ascending or descending order based on the CSI-RS resource index k (e.g., the numerical value of the CSI-RS resource index k) , and then ordered in ascending or descending order based on the antenna port index (3000+p-1) (e.g., the numerical value of the antenna port index (3000+p-11) ) for a same k.. For example, Y (i) is expressed as equation (16) , in which a first portion  may be expressed as:

[0092] As a still further example, a first portion of Y (i) may be determined by:

[0093] and a second portion of Y (i) is determined by:

[0094] in which the CSI-RS resource indexk=1, 2, …, K.

[0095] For Y (i) determined according to equations (25) and (26) , or equations (27) and (28) , in each of the two portions of Y (i) , the can be first ordered in ascending or descending order based on the CSI-RS resource index k (e.g., the numerical value of the CSI-RS resource index k) , and then ordered in ascending or descending order based on the antenna port index (3000+p-1) (e.g., the numerical value of the antenna port index (3000+p-1) ) for a same k.

[0096] In some embodiments, Y (i) may be divided into two portions. A first portion of the two portions of Y (i) may be determined by signals on antenna ports of a first subset of the K CSI-RS resources, and a second portion of the two portions of Y (i) may be determined by signals on antenna ports of a second subset of the K CSI-RS resources. The first subset and the second subset may  collectively constitute the K CSI-RS resources.

[0097] in which k=1, 3, 5, …, K-1; and a second portion of Y (i) is determined by:

[0098] in which k=2, 4, 6, …, K.

[0101] in which k=1, 3, 5, …, K-1.

[0102] In some embodiments, Y (i) may be divided into two portions when K=3.

[0103] in which k=1, and

[0104] in which k=2; and a second portion of Y (i) is determined by:

[0105] in which k=2, and

[0106] in which k=3.

[0107] As another example in which K=3, a first portion of Y (i) may be determined by:

[0347] It will be appreciated that the present document discloses techniques that can be  embodied in various embodiments to allow a UE-triggered reporting of beam report information. Specifically, events for beam reporting are defined based on measurement quality variation monitoring among beams at different time instances / beam groups or for different channels / RSs. The beam reporting would be triggered if any of the pre-defined events occurs. As the event-triggered beam report is initiated by the UE on demand, the reporting latency and uplink reporting resource consumption can be greatly reduced compared with the conventional beam report method.
