Abstract

Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to enhanced transmission of system information block (SIB). In an aspect, a terminal device receives, from a network device, an information for assisting decoding of one system information block (SIB), wherein the one SIB comprises a first SIB and at least one additional SIB of a same SIB type. The terminal device receives, from the network device, the one SIB. Then, the terminal device decodes the one SIB based on the information. By implementing the embodiments of the present disclosure, during transmission of one SIB, the terminal device would receive a first SIB and at least one additional SIB of a same SIB type as the first SIB, which could enhance transmission and decoding of the one SIB, thereby improving robustness and reliability of SIB transmission and realizing downlink coverage enhancement. In addition, various specific solutions for configuring or indicating information related to the at least one additional SIB are also provided.

[0031] It may be understood that although the terms “first” , “second” , “third” and “fourth” etc. may be used herein to describe various elements, these elements should not be limited by these terms. These terms are only used to distinguish one element from another. For example, a first element could be termed as a second element, and similarly, a second element could be termed as a first element, without departing from the scope of example embodiments. As used herein, the term “and / or” includes any and all combinations of one or more of the listed terms.

[0032] The terminology used herein is for the purpose of describing particular embodiments only and is not intended to be limiting of example embodiments. As used herein, the singular forms “a” , “an” and “the” are intended to include the plural forms as well, unless the context clearly indicates otherwise. It will be further understood that the terms “comprises” , “comprising” , “has” , “having” , “includes” and / or “including” , when used herein, specify the presence of stated features, elements, and / or components etc., but do not preclude the presence or addition of one or more other features, elements, components and / or combinations thereof. As used herein, “at least one of the following: <a list of two or more elements>” and “at least one of <a list of two or more elements>” and similar wording, where the list of two or more elements are joined by “and” or “or” , mean at least any one of the elements, or at least any two or more of the elements, or at least all the elements.

[0033] As used in this application, the term “circuitry” may refer to one or more or all of the following:

[0034] (a) hardware-only circuit implementations (such as implementations in only analog and / or digital circuitry) and

[0035] (b) combinations of hardware circuits and software, such as (as applicable) :

[0041] As used herein, the term “network device” refers to a node in a communication network via which a terminal device accesses the network and receives services therefrom. The network device may refer to a base station (BS) or an access point (AP) , for example, a node B (NodeB or NB) , an evolved NodeB (eNodeB or eNB) , a NR NB (also referred to as a gNB) , a satellite, a remote radio unit (RRU) , a radio header (RH) , a remote radio head (RRH) , a relay, a low power node such as a femto, a pico, and so forth, depending on the applied terminology and technology.

[0042] The term “terminal device” refers to any end device that may be capable of wireless communication. By way of example rather than limitation, a terminal device may also be referred to as a communication device, user equipment (UE) , a subscriber station (SS) , a portable subscriber station, a mobile station (MS) , or an access terminal (AT) . The terminal device may include, but not limited to, a mobile phone, a cellular phone, a smart phone, voice over IP (VoIP) phones, wireless local loop phones, a NTN handheld device, a NTN very small aperture terminal (VSAT) , a tablet, a wearable terminal device, a personal digital assistant (PDA) , portable computers, desktop computer, image capture terminal devices such as digital cameras, gaming terminal devices, music storage and playback appliances, vehicle-mounted wireless terminal devices, wireless endpoints, mobile stations, laptop-embedded equipment (LEE) , laptop-mounted equipment (LME) , USB dongles, smart devices, wireless customer-premises equipment (CPE) , an Internet of things (IoT) device, a watch or other wearable, a head-mounted display (HMD) , a vehicle, a drone, a medical device and applications (e.g., remote surgery) , an industrial device and applications (e.g., a robot and / or other wireless devices operating in an industrial and / or an automated processing chain contexts) , a consumer electronics device, a device operating on commercial, a relay node, an integrated access and backhaul (IAB) node, and / or industrial wireless networks, and the like. In the following description, the terms “terminal device” , “communication device” , “terminal” , “user equipment” and “UE” may be used interchangeably.

[0043] As used herein, the term “resource” , “transmission resource” , “resource block” , “physical resource block” (PRB) , “uplink (UL) resource” or “downlink (DL) resource” may refer to any resource for performing a communication, for example, a communication between a terminal device and a network device, such as a resource in time domain, a resource in frequency domain, a resource in space domain, a resource in code domain, a resource in a combination of more than one domain or any other resource enabling a communication, and the like. In the following, a resource in time domain (such as, a subframe) will be used as an example of a transmission resource for describing some example embodiments of the present disclosure. It is noted that example embodiments of the present disclosure are equally applicable to other resources in other domains.

[0044] In a current communication technology, the third generation partnership project (3GPP) does not specify any enhancement measures for transmission of SIB, e.g., SIB1. 3GPP specifies a user equipment (UE) should monitor two consecutive physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) monitoring occasions at two consecutive slots (e.g., slot n0 and  n0+1) so as to get downlink control information (DCI) for scheduling one SIB, and the one SIB may be carried in one of the two consecutive slots. However, in a communication network, such as a non-terrestrial network (NTN) , there may be limited power and power sharing may be needed among different beams, rendering the power for transmission of the SIB may not be strong enough and resulting in the SIB coverage problem. How to improve transmission of SIB needs to be studied.

[0045] Therefore, example embodiments of the present disclosure provide a solution for enhanced transmission of system information block (SIB) , especially for enhanced transmission of system information block 1 (SIB1) . According to embodiments of the present disclosure, a terminal device receives, from a network device, an information for assisting decoding of one system information block (SIB) , wherein the one SIB comprises a first SIB and at least one additional SIB of a same SIB type. Then, the terminal device receives, from the network device, the one SIB. Afterwards, the terminal device decodes the one SIB based on the information.

[0046] It is understood that the above procedure steps may work together, in a flow of operations as described below, partly together or independently of each other.

[0047] For illustrative purposes, principles and example embodiments of the present disclosure of enhanced transmission of system block information block (SIB) will be described below with reference to FIG. 1 through FIG. 9. However, it is to be noted that these embodiments are given to enable the skilled in the art to understand inventive concepts of the present disclosure and implement the solution as proposed herein, and not intended to limit scope of the present application in any way.

[0048] FIG. 1 illustrates an example of an application scenario 100 in which some example embodiments of the present disclosure may be implemented. The network environment 100, which may be a part of a communication network, includes a terminal device 102 and a network device 104. The network environment 100 may be a non-terrestrial network (NTN) as shown in FIG. 1. However, it should be understood that the NTN is used herein just for  example, and the network environment 100 could also be other types of networks.

[0049] As illustrated in FIG. 1, the terminal device 102 may also be referred to as a user equipment 102 or a UE 102. The network device 104 may also be referred to as a gNB 104 or a satellite 104. The network device 104 may have a large satellite footprint area (as shown by the biggest dashed circle) , which may be up to several millions of square kilometers (km2) . The network device 104 may have a plurality of beams, each of which may cover a beam footprint area of thousands of km2. There may exist three types of beam footprint areas in the network environment 100, including a NTN illuminated beam footprint area 106-1, a NTN served beam footprint area 106-2 and a NTN unserved beam footprint area 106-3. The NTN illuminated beam footprint area 106-1 and the NTN served beam footprint area 106-2 are beam footprint areas in which NTN services are available. The NTN unserved beam footprint area 106-3 is a beam footprint area in which NTN services are not available. The NTN illuminated beam footprint area 106-1 may also be called as a NTN active beam footprint area 106-1. A number of active beams may be restricted by the satellite’s payload capability, therefore, it may not be able to provide NTN services for all beam footprints simultaneously. In other words, although there may be a lot of beam footprint areas in which NTN services are available in the large satellite footprint area, only a few number of beams are active and their corresponding beam footprint areas are illuminated. The terminal device 102 may be within the illuminated beam footprint area 106-1. The terminal device 102 and the network device 104 can communicate with each other.

[0050] FIG. 2 illustrates an example signaling process 200 of enhanced transmission of SIB in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure. For ease of understanding, the process 200 will be described with reference to FIG. 1.

[0051] As shown in FIG. 2, the process 200 may involve a terminal device 202 (e.g., a UE 202) and a network device 204 (e.g., a gNB 204 or a satellite 204) . The terminal device 202 could be the terminal device 102 in FIG. 1, and the network device 204 could be the network device 104 in FIG. 1.

[0052] At 210, the terminal device 202 receives, from the network device 204, an information for assisting decoding of one system information block (SIB) , wherein the one SIB comprises a first SIB and at least one additional SIB of a same SIB type. At the same time, in a reverse direction, the network device 204 transmits, to the terminal device 202, an information for assisting decoding of one system information block (SIB) . At 220, the  terminal device 202 receives, from the network device 204, the one SIB. At the same time, in a reverse direction, the network device 204 transmits, to the terminal device 202, the one SIB. At 230, the terminal device 202 decodes the one SIB based on the information. For example, the one SIB may be SIB1, SIB19 or any other types of SIB. In this way, during transmission of one SIB, the terminal device 202 would receive a first SIB and at least one additional SIB of a same SIB type as the first SIB, which could enhance transmission and decoding of the one SIB.

[0053] In some example embodiments, the at least one additional SIB may have same contents as the first SIB. In this way, as for one type of SIB, it will be repeatedly transmitted two or more times with or without frequency-shifting for improving the robustness and reliability. Alternatively or additionally, the first SIB may have a part of information bits and redundancy bits of the one SIB, and the at least one additional SIB may have a remaining part of the information bits and the redundancy bits of the one SIB. In this way, as for one type of SIB, it will be transmitted via two or more times SIB transmission and the first transmission contains different information bits and redundancy bits from other transmissions. For example, as for SIB1, the network device 204 may transmit α percentage of SIB1 a slot n0 and (1-α) percentage of SIB1 in another slot n0+1. As such, the network device 204 actually spends same amount of power for transmission of SIB1 in the slots n0 and slot n0+1 . This approach may provide transmit diversity and / or receive diversity when it is combined by e.g., antenna switching at the terminal device 202’s side. Alternatively or additionally, the at least one additional SIB may have at least one additional redundancy bit related to the first SIB. In this way, the at least one additional SIB could also be called at least one incremental SIB for the first SIB, which only contains pure incremental redundancy bits for enhancing decoding of the first SIB and requires less resources for transmission, thus transmission power consumed by the at least one additional SIB could be reduced.

[0054] In some example embodiments, the information comprises a first indication indicating an existence of transmission of the at least one additional SIB. Based on the first indication, the terminal device 202 (e.g., a NTN UE 202) supports decoding the additional SIB would decode the one SIB with consideration of the at least one additional SIB, while the terminal device 202 (e.g., a legacy UE 202) which does not support decoding the additional SIB would decode the at least one SIB without consideration of the at least one additional SIB (i.e., ignoring the at least one additional SIB) .

[0055] In some example embodiments, the first indication may be indicated by a reserved bit in downlink control information (DCI) format 1_0 with cyclic redundancy check (CRC) scrambled by a system information radio network temporary identifier (SI-RNTI) . The DCI format 1_0 may be transmitted via a PDCCH in Type0 common search space set (CSS) in slots n0 and / or n0+1. In this way, a reserved bit in DCI format 1_0 could be used for explicitly indicating the first indication. Alternatively or additionally, the first indication may be indicated by a bit in an existing field in downlink control information (DCI) format 1_0 with cyclic redundancy check (CRC) scrambled by a system information radio network temporary identifier (SI-RNTI) . In this way, a bit of an existing field in DCI format 1_0 (e.g., a frequency domain resource assignment field, a time domain resource assignment field, a VRB-to-PRB mapping field, a modulation and coding scheme field, a Redundancy version field, a System information indicator field) could be repurposed for explicitly indicating the first indication. Alternatively or additionally, the first indication may be indicated by a new field introduced in downlink control information (DCI) format 1_0 with cyclic redundancy check (CRC) scrambled by a system information radio network temporary identifier (SI-RNTI) . In this way, a new field could be introduced to explicitly indicate the first indication.

[0056] Alternatively or additionally, the first indication may be indicated by a certain physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) candidate carrying a downlink control information (DCI) for scheduling the one SIB. For example, as for SIB1, the PDCCH candidate in CORESET0 could be used for implicitly indicating the existence of transmission of the at least one additional SIB. If the terminal device 202 found its DCI in PDCCH candidate 2, the terminal device 202 may know the existence of transmission of the at least one additional SIB. In this way, the first indication could be indicated implicitly using the time-frequency characteristics of the PDCCH scheduling the one SIB. Alternatively or additionally, the first indication may be indicated by a certain monitoring occasion (MO) carrying a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) for scheduling the one SIB. The MO also could be represented by the slot. For example, if the terminal device 202 found its DCI in the slot n0+1, the terminal device 202 may know the existence of transmission of the at least one additional SIB. In this way, the first indication could be indicated implicitly using the time location of MO carrying a PDCCH for scheduling the one SIB.

[0057] In some example embodiments, the information may comprise a second indication indicating a number of the at least one additional SIB. As an example, the second indication may be indicated by a reserved bit in downlink control information (DCI) format 1_0 with  cyclic redundancy check (CRC) scrambled by a system information radio network temporary identifier (SI-RNTI) . Alternatively or additionally, the second indication may be indicated by a bit in an existing field in downlink control information (DCI) format 1_0 with cyclic redundancy check (CRC) scrambled by a system information radio network temporary identifier (SI-RNTI) . Alternatively or additionally, the second indication may be indicated by a new field introduced in downlink control information (DCI) format 1_0 with cyclic redundancy check (CRC) scrambled by a system information radio network temporary identifier (SI-RNTI) . In this way, a reserved bit in DCI format 1_0, a bit of an existing field in DCI format 1_0 or a new field could be used for explicitly indicating the number of the at least one additional SIB.

[0058] In some example embodiments, the information may comprise a third indication indicating at least one frequency location of the at least one additional SIB or at least one frequency location of at least one starting resource block (RB) of the at least one additional SIB. That is to say, the at least one additional SIB may be frequency-shifted SIB (s) relative to the first SIB. The at least one additional SIB may be within a same BWP as the first SIB, but with frequency-shifted resource blocks (RBs) . In some example embodiments, the frequency shift may be implemented using a modulo operation with the BWP size so that if the frequency shift is large and exceed the whole BWP, the frequency-shift results in a cyclic shift of the frequency location of the first SIB, thereby providing frequency diversity.

[0059] In some example embodiments, the third indication indicates at least one frequency offset relative to a frequency location of the first SIB or a starting RB of the first SIB. For an instance, at least one reserved bits (e.g., 15 reserved bits) in DCI format 1_0 may be used to indicate the at least one frequency relative offset. The at least one frequency offset may be indicated in a granularity of physical resource block (PRB) . Toggled bit (s) within the reserved bits may determine the relative offset, e.g., [100…0] may indicate an offset of 1 PRB and [001…0] may indicate an offset of 3 PRBs. In this way, the frequency location (s) of the at least one additional SIB or the frequency location (s) of the starting RB (s) of the at least one additional SIB could be indicated in a relative manner. Alternatively or additionally, the third indication may be indicated by bits, wherein represents a size of CORESET0. In this way, the frequency location (s) of the at least one additional SIB or the frequency location (s) of the starting RB (s) of the at least one additional SIB could be indicated in an absolute value manner.

[0060] In some example embodiments, the third indication may be indicated by a new field introduced in downlink control information (DCI) format 1_0 with cyclic redundancy check (CRC) scrambled by a system information radio network temporary identifier (SI-RNTI) . Alternatively or additionally, the third indication may be indicated by at least one reserved bit in downlink control information (DCI) format 1_0 with cyclic redundancy check (CRC) scrambled by a system information radio network temporary identifier (SI-RNTI) . Alternatively or additionally, the third indication may be indicated by a field in a master information block (MIB) . In this way, a reserved bit in DCI format 1_0, a new field introduced in DCI format 1_0 or a field in MIB could be used for indicating the frequency location (s) of the at least one additional SIB or the frequency location (s) of the starting RB (s) of the at least one additional SIB.

[0061] In some example embodiments, the third indication may be at least one codepoint carried in downlink control information (DCI) format 1_0 with cyclic redundancy check (CRC) scrambled by a system information radio network temporary identifier (SI-RNTI) , the at least one codepoint indicates at least one of a plurality of predetermined frequency locations of the at least one additional SIB or a plurality of predetermined frequency locations of the at least one starting RB of the at least one additional SIB. In such embodiments, the plurality of predetermined frequency locations of the at least one additional SIB or the plurality of predetermined frequency locations of the at least one starting RB of the at least one additional SIB may be predetermined at the terminal device 202 side or preconfigured based on the specification. In this way, the network device 204 could indicate one out of a plurality predetermined or preconfigured frequency locations using a codepoint in DCI format 1_0.

[0062] In some example embodiments, the information may comprise a fourth indication indicating at least one slot location of the at least one additional SIB or at least one slot offset relative to a slot location of the first SIB. In some other example embodiments, the fourth indication may indicate other kinds of time location (e.g., a first or last OFDM symbol location) of the at least one additional SIB or at least one time location relative to a time location (e.g., a first or last OFDM symbol location) of the first SIB.

[0063] In some example embodiments, the at least one slot location of the at least one additional SIB or the at least one slot offset relative to the slot location of the first SIB may be predefined, e.g., in the specification. For instance, it may be predefined that the additional SIB is transmitted in a slot n0+Y (Y>1) in a fixed manner independent of the slot in  which the first SIB is transmitted. Alternatively or additionally, the at least one slot location of the at least one additional SIB or the at least one slot offset relative to the slot location of the first SIB may be configured by the network device 204. The terminal device 202 may determine the at least one slot location based on the slot in which the first SIB is transmitted. For example, if the first SIB is transmitted in slot n0, the terminal device 202 may determine the additional SIB to be transmitted in slot n0+1 . This design has an advantage of not increasing PDCCH MOs beyond two consecutive slots.

[0064] In some example embodiments, the fourth indication may be indicated by a reserved bit in downlink control information (DCI) format 1_0 with cyclic redundancy check (CRC) scrambled by a system information radio network temporary identifier (SI-RNTI) . Alternatively or additionally, the fourth indication may be indicated by a bit in an existing field in downlink control information (DCI) format 1_0 with cyclic redundancy check (CRC) scrambled by a system information radio network temporary identifier (SI-RNTI) . Alternatively or additionally, the fourth indication may be indicated by a new field introduced in downlink control information (DCI) format 1_0 with cyclic redundancy check (CRC) scrambled by a system information radio network temporary identifier (SI-RNTI) . In this way, a reserved bit in DCI format 1_0, a bit of an existing field in DCI format 1_0 or a new field could be used for indicating the time location (s) of the at least one additional SIB or the time offset (s) relative to a time location of the first SIB. When the fourth indication indicates the time offset (s) , the terminal device 202 may determine the at least one time location (e.g., the slot location) of the at least one additional SIB based on the at least one slot offset indicated by the fourth indication and the time location (e.g., the slot location) of the first SIB.

[0065] In some example embodiments, the terminal device 202 may receive the first SIB in a first slot, and receive one of the at least one additional SIB in a second slot. A slot difference between the first slot and the second slot is at least one slot. At the same time, in a reverse direction, the network device 204 may transmit the first SIB in a first slot, and transmit one of the at least one additional SIB in a second slot. For example, the terminal device 202 may receive the first SIB in slot n0 and one additional SIB in slot n0+2, thus the slot difference between the first SIB and the additional SIB is 2 slots.

[0066] In some example embodiments, the information may comprise a fifth indication indicating at least one time and frequency resource for the at least one additional SIB. As an example, the fifth indication may be indicated by at least one reserved bit in downlink control  information (DCI) format 1_0 with cyclic redundancy check (CRC) scrambled by a system information radio network temporary identifier (SI-RNTI) . In this way, the time frequency resources could be allocated to the terminal device 202 in an explicit manner.

[0067] Alternatively or additionally, the fifth indication may be indicated by indicating at least one resource scaling parameter relative to at least one time and frequency resource for the first SIB. In such scenario, the terminal device 202 may determine the at least one time and frequency resource for the at least one additional SIB based on the at least one resource scaling parameter and the at least one time and frequency resource for the first SIB. The scaling parameter represent the resource ratio of the at least one additional SIB in comparison to the first SIB. For instance, if the time and frequency resources for the first SIB are represent by [PRB_0 –PRB_X] and [OFDM_Symbol_2-OFDM_Symbol_Y] and the resource scaling parameter is set to 0.5, then the time and frequency resources for the at least one additional SIB would be [PRB_0 –PRB_X*0.5] and [OFDM_Symbol_0 –OFDM_Symbol_Y*0.5] .

[0068] In some example embodiments, the information may comprise a sixth indication indicating a frequency hopping flag. The frequency hopping flag may indicate whether frequency hopping for the at least one additional SIB is enabled or not. For example, if the frequency hopping flag is set to “1” , it means the frequency hopping for the at least one additional SIB is enabled and the at least one additional SIB can be frequency-shifted relative to the first SIB. Conversely, if the frequency hopping flag is set to “0” , it means the frequency hopping for the at least one additional SIB is disabled. In some example embodiments, at least one frequency location of the at least one additional SIB or at least one frequency location of at least one starting resource block (RB) of the at least one additional SIB may be predetermined at the terminal device 202, and can be used when the frequency hopping for the at least one additional SIB is enabled.

[0069] By implementing the embodiments described with reference to FIG. 2, enhanced transmission of SIB (especially, SIB1) is supported. With the embodiments as described above, during transmission of one SIB, the terminal device 202 would receive a first SIB and at least one additional SIB of a same SIB type as the first SIB, which could enhance transmission and decoding of the one SIB, thereby improving robustness and reliability of SIB transmission and realizing downlink coverage enhancement. In addition, the present disclosure provides various specific solutions for configuring or indicating information related to the at least one additional SIB, which could assist the terminal device 202 to realize  the presence, the number, the frequency location, the time location, the resources of the at least one additional SIB transmission.

[0070] FIG. 3 illustrates an example signaling process 300 of enhanced transmission of SIB1 using an additional frequency-shifted SIB1 in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure. For ease of understanding, the process 300 will be described with reference to FIG. 1, FIG. 2 and FIG. 4. FIG. 4 illustrates an example sequential diagram 400 of enhanced transmission of SIB1 using an additional frequency-shifted SIB1 in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure, which could assist understanding the process 300.

[0071] As shown in FIG. 3, the process 300 may involve a UE 302 and a gNB 304. The UE 302 could be the terminal device 102 in FIG. 1 or the terminal device 202 in FIG. 2. The UE 302 comprises a UE1 (a legacy UE) which does not supports decoding the additional SIB and a UE2 which supports decoding the additional SIB. The UE1 may be also called as a legacy UE, and UE2 may be also called as a NTN UE. The UE1 and UE2 could be collectively called as the UE 302. The gNB 304 could be the network device 104 in FIG. 1 or the network device 204 in FIG. 2.

[0072] At 310, the UE 302 performs band scanning, measures synchronization signal and physical broadcast channel (PBCH) block (SSB) beams, and locks to one SSB beam (e.g., beam 0) . It is assumed that both UE1 and UE2 are locked to the SSB beam 0.

[0073] At 315, the UE 302 receives a PBCH, decodes a MIB and acquires PDCCH-ConfigSIB1 information element (IE) , and thus obtains CORESET0 and Type0 CSS configurations. Assuming a pair of (15 kHz, 15 kHz) for (SSB subcarrier spacing (SCS) , PDCCH SCS) , “controlResourceSetZero” can be set to 2 and “searchSpaceZero” can be set to index 2. Both UE1 and UE2 determines MOs (in slots n0 and n0+1) for reception of PDCCH within Type0 CSS.

[0074] At 320, the gNB 304 transmits a PDCCH scheduling SIB1 via PDCCH candidate 4 to indicate (raise a flag for) presence / existence of an additional frequency-shifted SIB1 to the UE 302, assuming that the UE 302 is configured with a maximum of 4 PDCCH candidates of a certain aggregation level. For example, as shown in FIG. 4, there are 4 PDCCH candidates in slot 2. It may be defined that PDCCH candidates 1 and 2 do not raise the flag, but PDCCH candidates 3 and 4 raise the flag. Therefore, upon reception of PDCCH candidate 4, the UE2 will interpret the bits (e.g., reserved bits) in DCI 1_0 with CRC scrambled by SI- RNTI differently to obtain other information regarding the additional frequency-shifted SIB1. The additional frequency-shifted SIB1 may have same contents as the first SIB1.

[0075] At 325, the legacy UE1 ignores the indication (flag) of presence / existence of the additional frequency-shifted SIB1, while UE2 receives the indication (flag) of presence / existence of the additional frequency-shifted SIB1.

[0076] At 330, the gNB 304 implicitly indicates a relative frequency offset of the additional frequency-shifted SIB1 transmission relative to that of the first SIB1 (e.g., the first SIB1 in slot 2) . For example, the gNB 304 can indicate the relative frequency offset via reserved bits [0 0 0 0 0 1…0] , as such, 6 PRBs frequency offset will be considered.

[0077] At 335, the gNB 304 transmits a first SIB1 in slot n0 to the UE 302. For example, as shown in FIG. 4, the gNB 304 may transmit a first SIB1 in slot 2 to the UE 302. The blank SIB1 in slots 3 and 4 represent MOs which do not actually contain PDCCH scheduling SIB1.

[0078] At 340, the UE1 successfully decodes the SIB1 using the first SIB1.

[0079] At 345, the gNB 304 transmits an additional frequency-shifted SIB1 in n0+2 , which may be defined in the specification. As shown in FIG. 4, the gNB 304 may transmit an additional SIB1 in slot 4 to the UE 302, the additional SIB1 is frequency shifted in a vertical direction.

[0080] At 350, the UE2 combines the first and additional frequency-shifted SIB1 transmissions to obtain signal to interference plus noise ratio (SNR) or coding gain, and successfully decode SIB1.

[0081] It is noted that, since different beams of the gNB 304 may point into different directions and may have different coverage conditions, the gNB 304 may not transmit the frequency-shifted SIB1 in all SSB beams. For instance, the UE 302 located within the center beam may not experience coverage shortage while the UE 302 located at a beam pointing at a cell edge may experience coverage shortage. Therefore, the gNB 304 may decide for which beam it is needed to indicate the presence of additional frequency-shifted SIB1.

[0082] By implementing the embodiments described with reference to FIG. 3, the UE 302 would receive a first SIB1 and an additional SIB1 having same contents as the first SIB1, and the additional SIB1 is frequency shifted relative to the first SIB1, which could enhance transmission and decoding of the SIB1, reducing frequency interference between SIB1 transmissions of one beam and another beam, thereby improving robustness and reliability  of SIB1 transmission and realizing downlink coverage enhancement. In addition, specific solutions for configuring or indicating information related to the additional frequency-shifted SIB1 are provided, which could assist the UE 302 to realize the presence and the frequency location of the additional frequency-shifted SIB1 transmission.

[0083] FIG. 5 illustrates an example signaling process 500 of enhanced transmission of SIB1 using an additional incremental SIB1 in accordance with some example embodiments of the present disclosure. For ease of understanding, the process 500 will be described with reference to FIG. 1, FIG. 2 and FIG. 4.

[0084] As shown in FIG. 5, the process 500 may involve a UE 502 and a gNB 504. The UE 502 could be the terminal device 102 in FIG. 1 or the terminal device 202 in FIG. 2. The UE 502 comprises a UE1 (a legacy UE) which does not supports decoding the additional SIB and a UE2 which supports decoding the additional SIB. The UE1 may be also called as a legacy UE, and UE2 may be also called as a NTN UE. The UE1 and UE2 could be collectively called as the UE 502. The gNB 504 could be the network device 104 in FIG. 1 or the network device 204 in FIG. 2.

[0085] At 510, the UE 502 performs band scanning, measures synchronization signal and physical broadcast channel (PBCH) block (SSB) beams, and locks to one SSB beam (e.g., beam 0) . It is assumed that both UE1 and UE2 are locked to the SSB beam 0.

[0086] At 515, the UE 502 receives a PBCH, decodes a MIB and acquires PDCCH-ConfigSIB1 information element (IE) , and thus obtains CORESET0 and Type0 CSS configurations.

[0087] At 520, the gNB 504 indicates (raised a flag for) presence / existence of an additional incremental SIB1 to UE2 via flipping the first bit of reserved bits within the DCI from “0” to “1” . Therefore, upon decoding and detection of the flipped bit, the UE2 will interpret the bits in DCI 1_0 with CRC scrambled by SI-RNTI differently to obtain other information (e.g., “a resource scaling parameter” ) for the additional incremental SIB1 transmission. The additional incremental SIB1 may contain pure incremental redundancy bits for enhancing decoding of SIB1.

[0088] At 525, the legacy UE1 ignores the indication (flag) of presence / existence of the additional incremental SIB1, while UE2 receives the indication (flag) of presence / existence of the additional incremental SIB1.

[0089] At 530, the gNB 504 configures resource allocation of the additional incremental SIB1 by setting the “resource scaling parameter = 0.40” . Assuming that the first SIB1 transmission has a frequency resource allocation of [PRB0 –PRB20] and a time resource allocation of [OFDM_Symbol2 –OFDM_Symbol 10] , then the resource allocation of the additional incremental SIB1 carrying assistance information is [PRB0 –PRB20*0.4] and [OFDM_Symbol2 –OFDM_Symbol 10*0.4] , i.e., [PRB_0 –PRB8] and [OFDM_Symbol2 -–OFDM_Symbol4] .

[0090] In some example embodiments, the gNB 504 may also transmit configuration / indication of a slot in which the additional incremental SIB1 is transmitted. The slot in which the additional incremental SIB1 is transmitted may be determined based on a slot in which the first SIB1 is transmitted. For example, if the first SIB1 is transmitted in slot n0, the additional incremental SIB1 will be transmitted in slot n0+1. If the first SIB1 is transmitted in slot n0+1, then the additional incremental SIB1 will be transmitted in slot n0+2.

[0091] At 535, the gNB 504 transmits a first SIB1 in slot n0 to the UE 502. As shown in FIG. 4, the gNB 504 may transmit a first SIB1 in slot n0+2 to the UE 502.

[0092] At 540, the UE1 successfully decodes the SIB1 using the first SIB1.

[0093] At 545, the gNB 504 transmits an additional incremental SIB1 in n0+2. As shown in FIG. 4, the gNB 504 may transmit an additional incremental SIB1 in slot 4 to the UE 502.

[0094] At 550, the UE2 combines the assistance information in the additional incremental SIB1 with the first SIB, and successfully decode SIB1.

[0095] By implementing the embodiments described with reference to FIG. 5, the UE 502 would receive a first SIB1 and an additional incremental SIB1 containing pure incremental redundancy bits for enhancing decoding of SIB1, which could enhance decoding of the SIB1, thereby improving robustness and reliability of SIB1 transmission and realizing downlink coverage enhancement. In addition, specific solutions for configuring or indicating information related to the additional incremental SIB1 are provided, which could assist the UE 502 to realize the presence of and the resources allocated for the additional incremental SIB1 transmission.

[0096] FIG. 6 illustrates a flowchart of an example method 600 implemented at a terminal device (for example, a terminal device 102, a terminal device 202, a UE 302 or a UE 502) in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure. For ease of understanding, the method 600 will be described from the perspective of the terminal device 202 with reference to FIG. 2.

[0097] At block 610, the terminal device 202 receives, from a network device 204, an information for assisting decoding of one system information block (SIB) , wherein the one SIB comprises a first SIB and at least one additional SIB of a same SIB type. At block 620, the terminal device 202 receives, from the network device 204, the one SIB. At block 630, the terminal device 202 decodes the one SIB based on the information.

[0098] In some example embodiments, one of the following is satisfied: the at least one additional SIB has same contents as the first SIB; the first SIB has a part of information bits and redundancy bits of the one SIB, and the at least one additional SIB has a remaining part of the information bits and the redundancy bits of the one SIB; or the at least one additional SIB has at least one additional redundancy bit related to the first SIB.

[0099] In some example embodiments, the information comprises a first indication indicating an existence of transmission of the at least one additional SIB.

[0100] In some example embodiments, the first indication is indicated by at least one of the following: a reserved bit in downlink control information (DCI) format 1_0 with cyclic redundancy check (CRC) scrambled by a system information radio network temporary identifier (SI-RNTI) ; a bit in an existing field in downlink control information (DCI) format 1_0 with cyclic redundancy check (CRC) scrambled by a system information radio network temporary identifier (SI-RNTI) ; a new field introduced in downlink control information (DCI) format 1_0 with cyclic redundancy check (CRC) scrambled by a system information radio network temporary identifier (SI-RNTI) ; a certain physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) candidate carrying a downlink control information (DCI) for scheduling the one SIB; or a certain monitoring occasion (MO) carrying a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) for scheduling the one SIB.

[0101] In some example embodiments, the information comprises a second indication indicating a number of the at least one additional SIB.

[0102] In some example embodiments, the second indication is indicated by at least one of the following: a reserved bit in downlink control information (DCI) format 1_0 with cyclic  redundancy check (CRC) scrambled by a system information radio network temporary identifier (SI-RNTI) ; a bit in an existing field in downlink control information (DCI) format 1_0 with cyclic redundancy check (CRC) scrambled by a system information radio network temporary identifier (SI-RNTI) ; or a new field introduced in downlink control information (DCI) format 1_0 with cyclic redundancy check (CRC) scrambled by a system information radio network temporary identifier (SI-RNTI) .

[0103] In some example embodiments, the information comprises a third indication indicating at least one frequency location of the at least one additional SIB or at least one frequency location of at least one starting resource block (RB) of the at least one additional SIB.

[0104] In some example embodiments, the third indication indicates the at least one frequency location of the at least one additional SIB or the at least one frequency location of the at least one starting resource block (RB) of the at least one additional SIB by: indicating at least one frequency offset relative to a frequency location of the first SIB or a starting RB of the first SIB.

[0105] In some example embodiments, the third indication is indicated by  bits, wherein represents a size of CORESET0.

[0106] In some example embodiments, the third indication is indicated by at least one of the following: a new field introduced in downlink control information (DCI) format 1_0 with cyclic redundancy check (CRC) scrambled by a system information radio network temporary identifier (SI-RNTI) ; at least one reserved bit in downlink control information (DCI) format 1_0 with cyclic redundancy check (CRC) scrambled by a system information radio network temporary identifier (SI-RNTI) ; or a field in a master information block (MIB) .

[0107] In some example embodiments, the third indication is at least one codepoint carried in downlink control information (DCI) format 1_0 with cyclic redundancy check (CRC) scrambled by a system information radio network temporary identifier (SI-RNTI) , the at least one codepoint indicates at least one of a plurality of predetermined frequency locations of the at least one additional SIB or a plurality of predetermined frequency locations of the at least one starting RB of the at least one additional SIB.

[0108] In some example embodiments, the information comprises a fourth indication indicating at least one slot location of the at least one additional SIB or at least one slot offset relative to a slot location of the first SIB.

[0159] Further, while operations are depicted in a particular order, this should not be understood as requiring that such operations be performed in the particular order shown or in sequential order, or that all illustrated operations be performed, to achieve desirable results. In certain circumstances, multitasking and parallel processing may be advantageous. Likewise, while several specific implementation details are contained in the above discussions, these should not be construed as limitations on the scope of the present disclosure, but rather as descriptions of features that may be specific to particular embodiments. Certain features that are described in the context of separate embodiments may also be implemented in combination in a single embodiment. Conversely, various features  that are described in the context of a single embodiment may also be implemented in multiple embodiments separately or in any suitable sub-combination.

[0160] Although the present disclosure has been described in languages specific to structural features and / or methodological acts, it is to be understood that the present disclosure defined in the appended claims is not necessarily limited to the specific features or acts described above. Rather, the specific features and acts described above are disclosed as example forms of implementing the claims.
