[0005] Providing drinking fluids with a pleasant taste, e.g., byway of providing aroma to the user when consuming a drinking fluid is known. A bottle is typically equipped with an aroma pod. Aroma pods are devices designed to enhance the sensory experience of drinking fluids by infusing them with delightful scents. These pods typically consist of a compact container filled with aromatic substances, often in the form of oils or fragrance compounds. The design of aroma pods allows for integration with drinking bottles, enabling users to customize the aroma of their beverages according to their preferences.
[0006] Aroma pods allow for a controlled release of aromatic compounds into the fluid contained within the bottle. This release is typically facilitated by various methods such as diffusion, evaporation, or mechanical activation. WO 202 / 2111808 Al discloses a drinking device for the retro-nasal olfaction of an aroma substance. EP 3 944792 Al discloses a drinking device consisting of a drinking straw with an inner flow channel and a flavor container connected to the drinking straw for adding a substance to a stream of air flowing out of the flavor container. The drinking device can be mounted on a drinking straw. The drinking device has a conical surface for the straw to slide in. Both known solutions make use of an aroma substance entering the user’s mouth together with the drinking liquid. Subsequently, the aroma substance rises retronasally via the pharynx to the olfactory mucosa, where it is detected by the receptors located there and perceived by the user. The users therefore get the impression that they are tasting the aroma, although they only smell it retro-nasally.
[0008] The above-mentioned devices have some drawbacks: the devices are quite large and cumbersome to deal with. Further, mounting of the drinking device to the straw may be difficult and may not always lead to optimum results. There is thus a need for improvement. Against this background, an object of the present invention is to address one or more or all of the above-mentioned disadvantages.
[0009] Particularly, it is an object of the present invention to provide an adapter that can be mounted on a drinking straw. The adapter should provide for aroma fluid to be delivered to the user. The adapter should be compact and small in size. The adapter should allow for improved mounting on the straw. It is a general objective to provide an improved adapter that allows for aroma fluid to be provided to the user with any conventional straw. It is a general objective to provide an adapter that can be easily manufactured and is cost-effective.

[0012] First aspect of the adapter
[0013] A 1stembodiment of the invention is directed to an adapter for a drinking straw, comprising: a hollow element having a mouth end for being received in the mouth of a user, a distal end opposite to the mouth end, an inner surface, and a stop portion; and an aroma channel for being connected with an aroma source; wherein the adapter is configured such that, when the hollow element is mounted on the drinking straw by inserting at least a part of the straw into the hollow element: the stop portion abuts a proximal end of the straw; a contacting portion of the inner surface contacts a part of the outer surface of the straw; and when the user additionally sucks on the mouth end: a drinking fluid, preferably a liquid such as water, can be provided to the user via the straw to mouth of the user; and an aroma fluid, preferably a gas such as air comprising an aroma substance, can be provided to the mouth of the user via the aroma channel.
[0014] In this manner, an improved adapter for a drinking straw is provided. The adapter has the advantage that it can be flexibly and conveniently mounted on a straw. The adapter facilitates that a drinking fluid and an aroma fluid may be provided substantially at the same time to the user, thereby increasing user experience. The stop portion facilitates a predefined end upon which the straw can be inserted. The contacting portion of the inner surface simplifies mounting and provides for a substantially stable connection when mounted. The aroma channel facilitates that said aroma fluid can be provided to the user. A particular advantage may be that the combination of the aroma channel and the straw abutting the stop portion allows for a compact and small-sized adapter. This may be beneficial compared to prior art solutions, which either do not provide for such adapters at all or do not have these advances. The adapter may be mounted on any suitable straw. The straw may not require any particular preparation in order to be inserted into the adapter, which makes usage of the adapter user friendly.
[0015] The drinking fluid and the aroma fluid may be delivered to the mouth of the user, upon sucking. They maybe provided substantially separately. However, both fluids may mix in proximity to the mouth end of the adapter. Mixing may not mean that the fluids undergo any chemical interaction, although this may not be precluded. Mixing may primarily refer to physical mixing, e.g., that both fluids are combined and / or blended together and / or that they adopt a similar velocity. Mixing can occur in various physical states. Mixing may be governed by principles such as diffusion, convection, and turbulence. Mixing may not mean that both fluids are inseparable. Rather, it should be understood that both fluids may be separated such that the aroma fluid can be perceived retro-nasally whilst the drinking fluid can be guided to the stomach of the user or the like.
[0016] The hollow element maybe for instance a tubular element. Nonetheless, other shapes of the hollow element are not precluded and encompassed according to the present disclosure. The stop portion abuts a proximal end of the straw, which may mean that the stop portion provides for a substantially instantaneous stopping of the straw when they contact one another. A minor deformation of the straw may not be precluded as understood by the skilled person. The stop portion may be implemented as a peripheral edge as an example and as described elsewhere herein in greater detail. Other implementations are certainly possible and encompassed according to the present disclosure.

It may form part of an aroma fluid path, thereby contributing to a scent to be provided to the user, enhancing the experience. The aroma channel may be implemented in various ways, including but not limited to a groove, a slit, a cut, a vent and / or a more complex path that helps to evenly distribute the aroma within a space or the like.

Claims
Claims1. An adapter (1) for a drinking straw (8o), comprising: a hollow element (io) having a mouth end (n) for being received in the mouth of a user, a distal end (12) opposite to the mouth end (11), an inner surface (13), and a stop portion (20); and an aroma channel (16) for being connected with an aroma source (50); wherein the adapter (1) is configured such that, when the hollow element (10) is mounted on the drinking straw (80) by inserting at least a part of the straw (80) into the hollow element (10): the stop portion (20) abuts a proximal end (81) of the straw (80); a contacting portion of the inner surface (13) contacts a part of the outer surface of the straw (80); and when the user additionally sucks on the mouth end (11): a drinking fluid, preferably a liquid such as water, can be provided to the user via the straw (80) to mouth of the user; and an aroma fluid, preferably a gas such as air comprising an aroma substance, can be provided to the mouth of the user via the aroma channel (16).
2. The adapter according to the preceding claim, wherein the aroma channel is arranged between the stop portion (20) and the distal end (12) of the hollow element (10).

The adapter according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the contacting portion of the inner surface (13) has a length (di) of at least 0.5 cm, preferably at least 1.0 cm, more preferably at least 2.0 cm, more preferably at least 2.5 cm, more preferably at least 3.0 cm, more preferably at least 3.5 cm, most preferably at least 4.0 cm along a longitudinal axis (LA) defined by the hollow element (10), wherein the contacting portion of the inner surface (13) is preferably located between the stop portion (20) and the distal end (12).4- The adapter according to any one of the preceding claims, configured such that when the hollow element (io) is mounted on the drinking straw (8o), the contacting portion is coupled to the part of the outer surface of the straw (8o) in a substantially form-fitting manner and preferably substantially sealing manner.
5. The adapter according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the hollow element (io) comprises a mounting portion (40) on the outer surface (14) of the hollow element (10) for mounting the aroma source (50).
6. The adapter according to the preceding claim, wherein the mounting portion (40) is arranged between the stop portion (20) and the distal end (12) of the hollow element (10).
7. The adapter according to claim 5 or 6, wherein the mounting portion (40) comprises a rim (41), preferably a peripheral rim (41), for supporting the aroma source (50).
8. The adapter according to any one of claims 5 to 7, wherein the mounting portion (40) comprises a mounting element (45) configured to engage with a counterpart element (55) of the aroma source (50), when the aroma source (50) is mounted, the counterpart element (55) preferably shaped complementary to the mounting element (45), the mounting element (45) being preferably configured to substantially prevent rotation of the aroma source (50) when mounted.

The adapter according to the preceding claim, wherein the aroma channel (16) is arranged substantially opposite to the side of the hollow element (10) on which the mounting element (45) is arranged, optionally wherein a downstream end (16”) of the aroma channel is arranged on the same side of the hollow element (10) where an upstream endwherein a downstream end (16”) of the aroma channel is arranged substantially opposite to the side of the hollow element (io) where an upstream end (16’) of the aroma channel (16) is arranged.

The adapter according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the adapter (i) is configured such that, when the hollow element (io) is mounted on the drinking straw (8o): a drinking fluid path (3) for providing the drinking fluid is formed between the distal end (82) opposite the proximal end (81) of the straw (80) and the mouth end (11) of the hollow element (10), and an aroma fluid path (2) for providing the aroma fluid is formed between an upstream end (16’) of the aroma channel (16) and the drinking fluid path or the mouth end (11) of the hollow element (10).
11. The adapter according to the preceding claim, wherein the hollow element (10) has an internal channel within the wall of the hollow element (10), the internal channel forming part of the aroma fluid path (2).
12. The adapter according to claim 10 or 11, wherein the inner surface (13), preferably the contacting portion of the inner surface (13), comprises a recess (15) forming part of the aroma fluid path (2).

The adapter according to the preceding claim, wherein the recess (15) has a depth of at least 0.5 mm, preferably at least 1.0 mm, more preferably at least1.5 mm, most preferably at least 2.0 mm, and / or of at most 4 mm, preferably at most 3 mm, more preferably at most2.5 mm, most preferably at most 2 mm.
14. The adapter according to claims 12 or 13, wherein the recess (15) has an elongated shape, preferably along the longitudinal axis (LA) of the hollow element (10).

The adapter according to the preceding claim, wherein the recess (15) has a length along the longitudinal axis (LA) of the hollow element (10) of at least2 mm, preferably at least 4 mm, more preferably at least 10 mm, most preferably at least 20 mm, and / or of at most 40 mm, preferably at most 30 mm, more preferably at most 20 mm, most preferably at most 15 mm.

The adapter according to any one of claims 12 to 15, wherein the recess (15) is a first recess (15), and the hollow element (10) comprises a plurality of recesses (15, 15’, 15”, 15”’) on the inner surface (13), preferably on the contacting portion of the inner surface (13), the recesses (15, 15’, 15”, 15”’) forming part of the aroma fluid path (2).
17. The adapter according to the preceding claim, wherein the aroma channel (16) is in fluid communication with a second recess (15’) of the inner surface (13).
18. The adapter according to the preceding claim, wherein the second recess (15’) is in fluid communication with a third recess (15”) of the inner surface (13), and preferably with a fourth recess (15”’) of the inner surface (13).

The adapter according to the preceding claim, wherein the aroma fluid path (2) runs from the upstream end (16’) of the aroma channel (16) via a downstream end (16”) of the aroma channel (16) to the second recess (15’), then to the third recess (15”), then preferably to the fourth recess (15”’), then to the first recess (15)-20. The adapter according to any one of claims 16 to 19, wherein at least one recess (15) comprises a protrusion (18’, 18”’) overlapping at least partially with the aroma channel (16) along a projection along the longitudinal axis (LA) of the hollow element (10).
21. The adapter according to any one of claims 16 to 20, wherein at least one recess (15, 15’, 15”, 15”’) defines a cavity dimensioned to allow for pressure compensation with respect to the drinking fluid,wherein the protrusion (18’, 18”’) is preferably arranged centrally within the cavity, and configured to provide a substantially sealing contact with the straw (8o) when mounted.

The adapter according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the stop portion (20) extends substantially perpendicularly from the inner surface (13) to the inside of the hollow element (10), preferably by at least 1.0 mm, preferably at least 1.5 mm, more preferably at least 2.0 mm, most preferably at least3.0 mm, and / or preferably by at most 5 mm, preferably at most 4.5 mm, more preferably at most 4.0 mm, most preferably at most 3 mm.
23. The adapter according to any one of the preceding claims if dependent on claim 12, wherein the recess (15) is provided at least partially on the stop portion (20).

The adapter according to claim 22 or 23, wherein the stop portion (20) is provided in proximity to the mouth end (11), wherein a distance (d2) between the stop portion (20) and the mouth end (11) is preferably at most 3 cm, more preferably at most 2 cm, even more preferably at most 1.5 cm, most preferably at most 1 cm.
25. The adapter according to any one of claims 22 to 24, wherein the stop portion (20) comprises a peripheral edge (21) configured to abut the proximal end (81) of the straw (80) when mounted, to provide at least partially a sealing fit.
26. The adapter according to the preceding claim when dependent on claim 12, wherein the recess (15) intersects the peripheral edge (21) and defines a substantially L-shaped path for the aroma fluid.
27. The adapter according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the contacting portion and preferably the inner surface (13) is / are shaped substantially cylindrically.

The adapter according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the hollow element (io) has an average wall thickness from the inner surface (13) to the outer surface (14) in proximity of the stop portion (20) and upstream of the stop portion (20) of at least 3 mm, preferably at least 4 mm, most preferably at least 5 mm, and / or of at most 10 mm, preferably at most 8 mm, most preferably at most5 mm, wherein the hollow element (10) preferably has an average wall thickness from the inner surface (13) to the outer surface (14) in proximity of the stop portion (20) and downstream of the stop portion (20) of at least 5 mm, preferably at least 6 mm, most preferably at least 8 mm, and / or of at most 12 mm, preferably at most 10 mm, most preferably at most 8 mm.

The adapter according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the inner surface (13), preferably the contacting portion of the inner surface (12), comprises a structure (25) dimensioned to counteract relative movement between the hollow element (10) and the drinking straw (80), when mounted.
30. The adapter according to the preceding claim, wherein the structure (25) is arranged in proximity of the distal end (12) of the hollow element (10).

The adapter according to claim 29 or 30, wherein the structure (25) comprises at least one longitudinal ridge (25), preferably arranged substantially parallel to a longitudinal axis (LA) of the hollow element, wherein the structure (25) preferably comprises a plurality of longitudinal ridges (25), preferably arranged substantially equidistantly along the periphery of the inner surface (13).

An adapter (1) for a drinking straw (80), comprising: a hollow element (10) having a mouth end (11) for being received in the mouth of a user, a distal end (12) opposite to the mouth end (11), an inner surface (13), and a stop portion (20);wherein the adapter (i) is configured such that, when the hollow element (io) is mounted on the drinking straw (8o) by inserting at least a part of the straw (8o) into the hollow element (io): the stop portion (20) abuts a proximal end (81) of the straw (80); and a contacting portion of the inner surface (13) contacts a part of the outer surface of the straw (80); wherein the hollow element (10) comprises one or more recesses (15, 15’, 15”? 15”’) on the inner surface (13), preferably on the contacting portion of the inner surface (13), wherein the recesses (15, 15’, 15”, 15”’) are configured to facilitate inserting the at least a part of the straw (80).

The adapter according to the preceding claim, wherein the one or more recesses (15, 15’, 15”, 15”’) are configured to reduce a force of insertion by a factor of at least 1.1, preferably at least 1.2, more preferably at least 1.3, more preferably at least 1.4, most preferably at least 1.5 compared to a force of insertion without the one or more recesses (15, 15’, 15”, 15”’).

The adapter according to claim 32 or 33, wherein the one or more recesses (15, 15’, 15”, 15”’) cover at least 1%, preferably at least 2%, more preferably at least 3%, more preferably at least 5%, more preferably at least 8%, more preferably at least 10%, more preferably at least 12%, of the inner surface (13), preferably of the contacting portion of the inner surface (13), and / or wherein the one or more recesses (15, 15’, 15”, 15”’) cover at most 60%, preferably at most 50%, more preferably at most 40%, more preferably at most 35%, more preferably at most 30%, more preferably at most 25%, more preferably at most 20%, of the inner surface (13), preferably of the contacting portion of the inner surface (13).
35. The adapter according to any one of claims 32 to 34, wherein the adapter (1) comprises an aroma channel (16) for being connected with an aroma source (50), wherein the one or more recesses (15, 15’, 15”, 15”’) preferably form part of an aroma fluid path (2).
36. The adapter according to any one of claims 32 to 35, wherein the adapter (1) is an adapter (1) according to any one of claims 1 to 31.
37. The adapter according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein sucking of a user on the mouth end (11) means providing a pressure lower than ambient pressure on the mouth end (11).
38. An adapter set for a drinking straw (80), comprising: an adapter (1) according to any one of the preceding claims; and an aroma source (50), in particular an aroma container (50), preferably mounted on the mounting portion (40) of the hollow element (10).
39. The adapter set according to the preceding claim, wherein the aroma source (50) is arranged at least partially between the stop portion (20) and the distal end (12) of the hollow element (10).
40. The adapter set according to claim 38 or 39, wherein the aroma source (50) comprises a fluid inlet (53) for ambient fluid, and a fluid outlet (54) for a mixture of ambient fluid with an aroma substance, wherein the fluid outlet (54) is in fluid communication with the aroma channel (16).
41. The adapter set according to the preceding claim, wherein the fluid inlet (53) is arranged substantially opposite to the fluid outlet (54).
42. The adapter set according to any one of claims 38 to 41, wherein the aroma source (30) comprises an aroma chamber (51) comprising a carrier substance for an aroma substance.
43. A system comprising: an adapter set according to any one of claims 38 to 42; and a drinking straw (80);wherein the hollow element (to) is mounted on the drinking straw (80) by inserting the straw (80) into the hollow element (to).
44. The system according to the preceding claim, wherein the adapter is an adapter according to claim 25, and wherein the peripheral edge (21) abuts the straw(80), to provide at least partially a sealing fit.
45. The adapter according to any one of claims 1 to 37, wherein the adapter is a mouthpiece.
